A Brief History of Gaming Keyboards: From Mechanical Origins to Modern Innovations
Tumblr media
A Brief History of Gaming keyboard Development Gaming keyboard have been around for decades, originally created for professional typing environments like offices. The earliest widespread keyboards used mechanical switches beneath each key that provided tactile feedback when pressed. In the 1980s, membrane keyboards became more common due to their lower manufacturing costs. These lacked the detailed key presses of Gaming keyboard but allowed computers to become more compact and affordable for home use. Through the 1990s, most keyboards shifted to the quieter and cheaper membrane style. However, a small community of enthusiasts kept the Gaming Mechanical Keyboards tradition alive, appreciating their durability and precise typing feel. Modern innovations in switch design now allow Gaming keyboard to match or exceed the responsiveness of previous models while maintaining their iconic typing experience. The Variety of Mechanical Switches Available With renewed interest in Mechanical Keyboards, manufacturers have created numerous switch options tailored for different needs. Some of the most popular choices include: - Cherry MX Blue - A clicky tactile switch with an audible "click" upon actuation. Ideal for general typing. - Cherry MX Brown - A tactile non-clicky switch with a "bump" mid-press. Provides feedback without the clicking noise. - Cherry MX Red - A smooth linear switch without tactility or bumps. Preferences for rapid consecutive keystrokes. - Cherry MX Black - A stiff linear switch requiring more force to activate. Beneficial for preventing accidental presses. Along with Cherry, other companies like Kailh, Gateron, and Outemu make high-quality switches. There are even more unique varieties like box navy for a louder experience or optical switches using light beams instead of metal contacts. This allows customization based on individual needs and tastes. Gaming keyboard Features and Aesthetics Beyond the core switches, Mechanical Keyboards offer further customization through programmability, feedback lights, and designs. Full keyboard or smaller mini/60% formats allow smaller footprints. Multi-media keys provide shortcuts and controls. Feedback lights underneath keys illuminate when typing for visibility in darker environments or solely for visual flair. Lighting can be static colors or dynamic animations triggered by input. Keyboard customization has led to artistic designs focused on aesthetics. Cases come in numerous materials from aluminum to acrylic and colorful custom keycap sets enhance the experience. This has spurred a do-it-yourself community who craft their own unique boards. The Ever-Evolving Gaming keyboard Hobby As Gaming keyboard regained popularity in the 2010s, an enthusiastic culture formed around discussing and reviewing different models. Online forums, subreddits and YouTube channels sprang up dedicated to the niche passion. Keyboard meetups enable enthusiasts to test various boards, switches and keycap sets in person. Leading manufacturers respond with group buy campaigns enabling community-designed keyboards to enter mass production. Similarly, artisan keycap makers craft limited edition handmade pieces as status symbols. The constant innovations keep the Gaming keyboard world fresh and engaging for its devoted fanbase. Whether used for work, gaming or just pure enjoyment, Gaming keyboard promise a rich tactile experience that transcends basic functionality. With ongoing technical improvements and creative designs, this dedicated hobby shows no signs of slowing and inspires keyboard passion in more users every day. While seemingly simple devices, Mechanical Keyboards continue to fascinate their loyal community through both form and function.

Classic Key Visual Novel ‘Kanon’ English Release Announced
From Noisy Pixel
Tumblr media
Visual Arts/Key has announced an English release for Kanon. The classic game was Key’s first title back in 1999 and started the brand. It’ll come to PC via Steam but no release window was revealed.
Kanon tells the story of Yuichi Aizawa, a young man staying at his aunt's after his parents moved overseas. Seven years have passed since he was last in this town and his memories of back then are fuzzy.
On the day he moves, a young girl called Ayu Tsukimiya bumps into him. Later, he will get to know other girls who’ll become important in his life, including his cousin, Nayuki Minase, who studies in the same class as him.
Kanon had a recent Switch release by Prototype but that edition was only available in Japanese. This new Steam release marks the first time in 25 years that the game will have English subtitles as an option.
Kanon was Key’s debut title, with Jun Maeda at the helm of Makoto’s, Mai’s and Sayuri’s routes while Naoki Hisaya handled the others. The duo had also worked together on MOON. and ONE, and are well-known for their relevance in establishing the nakige genre (visual novels that pull at your heartstrings).

i've had this thing for a little while where i'm like. fuck! a lot of the artists i look up to have really thin, precise lineart. i need to start using thinner lines so i can get the accuracy and detail and realistic, correct anatomy, and it makes you have to get better at colors because the color has to carry the piece more when the lines give them more space between, and it's made me a lot more critical with my work because i instinctively go for big thick linework, and my usual strokes look sloppy and disconnected when i use thin lines.
and then i realized it was also making me miserable and not want to work on anything, which was really getting in the way of doing art in the first place. so i cranked that brush size back up and it just feels good and easy and flowing again, and like. yknow. there's working towards improvement and then there's stalling yourself out because you're too focused on arbitrary measures. i think i'm gonna be happy with my thick lines for a bit.

Not to be uhhhh annoying, but Karkat's theme and Eridan's theme from Alterniabound at the very least have to do with each other.
Both of them start off with a melody, but switch it up at around 0:06 seconds. Then once again another switch at 0:52 (almost perfectly in sync).
At around 1:06, Eridan's theme goes slow and sad, and on the other end? Sounds of tediousness(TM). Barking, Super Mario ghost oooohing that sounds like rolling your eyes, and vaguely digital soundbites.
And THEN, at around 1:23, Karkat's waltz resumes, and Eridan's theme also becomes a waltz (more or less at 1.25x Karkat's speed).
Karkat's music ends at 1:57, WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT Eridan's theme kicks up. And then a "Hey!" is heard at 2:03/2:04, a couple of seconds after Karkat's theme actually ends. Quite literally: "Karkat pay attention to me. Hey. Karkat. Karkat. Karkat." lmao.
And guess which theme also loosely follows this pattern? Terezi's. A canonical crush of Karkat's (A lot more out of sync, though). Kanaya's theme doesn't, however. Much less Vriska's, or any other theme in Alterniabound's album.
Of course all of these songs follow a pattern, and they're made for the same [S] Pages. Karkat and Eridan's, though? Almost completely in sync.
I dunno, maybe I'm trying to fit triangles into square holes, but it seemed worth mentioning. I genuinely tried listening to both at the same time in two different tabs but I couldn't get much out of it.
(This is nosyDetective btw, I just can't send asks from this blog bc it's not my main 😔)
Unfortunately, the similarities seem pretty superficial - eridan's theme is mostly in 4/4 (2/2 technically because its a march) and karkat's is in 3/4 the whole time - but still, here's the two 3/4 parts mashed together for your listening pleasure, hahah.

kuroo's an asshole and gets people riled up on purpose for funsies, but he's also genuinely a very caring guy and tries his best to help and encourage people.
tsukki's an asshole, and if he doesn't like you he will laugh as you run off a cliff. if he does like you, he'll laugh at you for being thick, but he'll stop you before you can truly hurt yourself. (bonus secret soft side can be unlocked, but watch out)
oikawa is an asshole, but only because he's keeping up an act to protect himself - and to make others laugh. when the act drops, he's shockingly serious and sincere no trace of assholerey to be found.
kags isn't an asshole at all, he's just incredibly straightforward, and people constantly mistake his bluntness as him being a dick on purpose.
most people get fooled by suga's outward appearance and think he's a nice guy just so sweet, but that's just because they aren't paying attention. make no mistake his asshole streak runs dangerously strong.
