REVIEW
Nothing Less Than Magic by Stacy Finz
An intriguing, intricately plotted, well written story that drew me in, made me wonder while becoming invested in the outcome of how it would all come together.
What I liked: * The way the story was told in three parts with the first as the set-up, the second that had me at times scratching my head, and the conclusion that provided hope for the future.
* Chelsea: had a great arc of growth through the book, I came away admiring her and her ability to survive while hoping her choices will see her thrive. I had times I wanted to sit her down and give her a talking to, though.
* Chelsea’s backstory and how it impacted her and her sister Lolly as I hope that they can bridge the estrangement gap that grew between them
* Uncle Sylvester: loving, responsible, caring, busy, in the movie business, there for those he cares about, may have found his soulmate in Wallace
* Ghost – the town that so impacted Chelsea’s future
* Thinking about the trauma Chelsea experienced and seeing it through my past as a neurosurgical intensive care head nurse decades ago
* Thinking about how fascinating the brain is, how it protects itself, and how it can heal
* Thinking about how this and another book read this week both are about TBI’s (traumatic brain injuries) and yet how different they were…and both so very enjoyable
* Thinking about “magic” and how important it is to life and how difficult it is for so many to find
* All of it except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how selfish some people can be
* Thinking about a relative who was in a coma for decades and wondering what was going on his mind during all of those years
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC – this is my honest review.

When a popular marriage counselor’s own marriage falls apart, she’s forced to question her methods—and discovers the magical ingredient she’s been missing all along—in the dreamiest possible way . . . Just one year ago, Chelsea Knight was living the life she’d always wanted. Marriage to the perfect guy, a thriving career, and a gorgeous condo overlooking San Francisco Bay. Then out of nowhere, her husband, Austin, left her. Ironic, because Chelsea fixes marriages for a living. In fact, she’s famous for her techniques. Naturally, she’s been using her expertise to win back her ex—and when he invites her for drinks, she’s sure her work has finally paid off. Until he announces he’s engaged. Devastated, Chelsea seeks refuge in the beloved small-town lake cabin she and Austin now take turns using. When she arrives, the streets are dazzlingly decked out for Halloween, the autumn leaves are exceptionally vibrant, and the locals are especially warm and welcoming. It’s downright magical—and so is Knox Hart, a talented jack-of-all-trades who’s fixing her roof. Chelsea is instantly drawn to him—and to the simplicity of country life. Slowly, she becomes immersed in the townspeople’s problems and finds a sense of belonging—leading her to reevaluate her own path . . . But something about the idyllic hamlet—and Knox—seems too good to be true. A trick more than a treat. And when she ultimately learns the truth, her heart is shattered. Miraculously, Austin is there to mend it. It’s everything she’d hoped for. Or is it? On the cusp of making all her dreams come true, Chelsea must find the strength to make an impossible choice . . .

Not How I Pictured It by Robin Lefler
Not How I Pictured It by Robin Lefler was a win from Goodreads and my first book by the author. It is marketed as romantic comedy, but this is a mistake. This is a mystery plain and simple. The premise is one that will have mass market appeal, former stars of a young adult reality, aka scripted, series reunite twenty years later. There is nothing unexpected about this, there is the washed-up…

You Don't Need an Agent! Publishers That Accept Unsolicited Submissions
I see a few people sayin that you definitely need an agent to get published traditionally. Guess what? That's not remotely true. While an agent can be a very useful tool in finding and negotiating with publishers, going without is not as large of a hurdle as people might make it out to be!
Below is a list of some of the traditional publishers that offer reading periods for agent-less manuscripts. There might be more! Try looking for yourself - I promise it's not that scary!
Albert Whitman & Company: for picture books, middle-grade, and young adult fiction
Hydra (Part of Random House): for mainly LitRPG
Kensington Publishing: for a range of fiction and nonfiction
NCM Publishing: for all genres of fiction (YA included) and nonfiction
Pants of Fire Press: for middle-grade, YA, and adult fiction
Tin House Books: very limited submission period, but a good avenue for fiction, literary fiction, and poetry written by underrepresented communities
Quirk Fiction: offers odd-genre rep for represented and unagented authors. Unsolicited submissions inbox is closed at the moment but this is the page that'll update when it's open, and they produced some pretty big books so I'd keep an eye on this
Persea Books: for lit fiction, creative nonfiction, YA novels, and books focusing on contemporary issues
Baen: considered one of the best known publishers of sci-fi and fantasy. They don't need a history of publication.
Chicago Review Press: only accepting nonfiction at the moment, but maybe someone here writes nonfiction
Acre: for poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Special interest in underrepresented authors. Submission period just passed but for next year!
Coffeehouse Press: for lit fiction, nonfiction, poetry and translation. Reading period closed at time of posting, but keep an eye out
Ig: for queries on literary fiction and political/cultural nonfiction
Schaffner Press: for lit fiction, historical/crime fiction, or short fiction collections (cool)
Feminist Press: for international lit, hybrid memoirs, sci-fi and fantasy fiction especially from BIPOC, queer and trans voices
Evernight Publishing: for erotica. Royalties seem good and their response time is solid
Felony & Mayhem: for literary mystery fiction. Not currently looking for new work, but check back later
This is all what I could find in an hour. And it's not even everything, because I sifted out the expired links, the repeat genres (there are a lot of options for YA and children's authors), and I didn't even include a majority of smaller indie pubs where you can really do that weird shit.
A lot of them want you to query, but that's easy stuff once you figure it out. Lots of guides, and some even say how they want you to do it for them.
Not submitting to a Big 5 Trad Pub House does not make you any less of a writer. If you choose to work with any publishing house it can take a fair bit of weight off your shoulders in terms of design and distribution. You don't have to do it - I'm not - but if that's the way you want to go it's very, very, very possible.
Have a weirder manuscript that you don't think fits? Here's a list of 50 Indie Publishers looking for more experimental works to showcase and sell!
If Random House won't take your work - guess what? Maybe you're too cool for Random House.

REVIEW
One Last Chance by Kat Martin
Blood Ties #3
Intense, intriguing, and interesting – really enjoyed reading this one!
What I liked:
* Edge Logan: ex Green Beret, works for Nighthawk security, dark & deadly, drawn to his coworker-Skye, a nice guy, liked the growth he showed by the end
* Skye Delaney: ex-military, wounded in battle, suffers from PTSD, strong, lethal, knows what she wants, cares about her family, drawn to Edge
* Callie: Skye’s half-sister, drawn in by a handsome man, needs help to get free of the cult, caring, good friend, grows a lot in the story
* The women in the cult, especially Lily and Molly…strong women and survivors
* The complexity of the story with mysteries, twists, and turns
* Being able to really REALLY dislike the bad guys
* The camaraderie of the people working at Nighthawk
* The Desert Eagles that showed up near the end of the book
* The potential for many more books related to the men working at Nighthawk Security
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Knowing that the evil that happened in this book, though fiction, happens in real life
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC – This is my honest review.

BLURB
The New York Times bestselling author delivers an explosive thriller perfect for fans of Laura Griffin and Heather Graham featuring a dangerous cult, an ex Green Beret, and a female private investigator who will stop at nothing to rescue her missing sister and unmask a high-stakes conspiracy. Former Green Beret Edge Logan has made a new life for himself at Nighthawk Security in Denver, using his finely honed skills to neutralize threats of all kinds. When he overhears friend and fellow agent Skye Delaney discussing a new case involving her missing sister and a mysterious cult, he offers himself as backup. With her own military background, Skye is gutsy and more than capable, but a cult like Children of the Sun is too risky for anyone to investigate alone. Skye is grateful for Edge’s experience, even though she is aware of the attraction simmering between them. Her battle scars make her reluctant to get involved with anyone, much less a coworker—even a warrior like Edge. But infiltrating the cult’s compound is more complicated than expected—and something much more sinister than worship is clearly going on behind its walls. As the pair works against the clock to unearth high-stakes secrets, the personal barriers between them begin to crumble. Together, can they unmask the face of evil before their time runs out?

But still won't erase the fact that he's ready to do everything for other people except for his wife.
Remember the dog bowl incident in Spare? He physically fought Harry because his staffs are getting mistreated but where is this energy for Kate?
William didn't have to make it obvious that after a decade Hilary Mantel continues to be right. Kate is just designed to sire an heir and now she's of no use because she's done with that.
Wow, someone who believes Harry's version of events as the full truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when even Harry disclosed that he doesn't know what's true of his memory or not.
You must be new here because:
In 2012, William sued the pap and the magazine that published topless photos of Kate. At the time, Kate was on a private property and had a reasonable expectation of privacy to be topless in the first place.
In 2018, William threatened lawsuits when people began alleging that he was cheating on Kate.
In 2021, William confronted a pap that was stalking his family and scaring his children. The pap recorded the encounter and posted it online.
In 2015, William issued his own KP statement to protect Kate and then-baby George from paparazzi stalking and harassment.
In the 2000s, William dropped friends who invaded his and Kate's privacy and leaked about them to the press.
In 2015 and in 2022, William moved his family twice out of the fishbowl of central London, away from media and paparazzi harassment.
In 2020, William had Tatler edit a published article to remove an insulting reference to Kate and her family?
In 2018 and in 2019, William kicked Harry out of Kensington Palace and the Royal Foundation because of how he and Meghan were treating his family, in addition to his staff.
In 2018, William supported Kate's decision to pull Charlotte out of bridesmaid dress fittings for Harry's wedding.
In 2010, William is the one who insisted for The Queen and the BRF to include Kate's family as often as possible.
In 2024, William let Kate prioritize her health and not work during her chemo treatments and in her recovery.
In 2024, William leaked the hacking (or attempted hacking) of Kate's medical records to put everyone on notice.
In 2024, William stopped releasing his family's photographs to the media after the Mother's Day fiasco. They're now posted only to their official social media now, instead of distributed to the rota.
In 2021, William accompanied Kate to the elementary school the day after the Sussexes' Oprah interview aired in the UK. The event had been announced as, and was only ever expected to be, a solo Kate appearance and he joined her so she didn't have to handle the press or confront them by herself.
In 2014 when Charles's comments about the Middletons getting more time with George were leaked and published, William didn't change a thing about how he and Kate were raising George. He made Charles change his habits to fit in time with George.
Iin 2019 when a plastic surgeon claimed Kate was his boxtox patient and he was using her photos in his advertising, William had the palace intervene with a cease-and-desist. (I'll remind you: the issue here is not that they wanted to hide Kate's botox use, but that they wanted a doctor to stop fraudulently claiming she was his patient.)
And William insists on traveling with his family together instead of separately, per protocol. That's not a guy who finds his wife useful only to bear him children; that's a guy who can't picture his life without her. (And before you tell me "actually no, that's a guy forcing his wife to take care of their children because he can't be bothered," no, it's not, because if that was the case, then William would travel separately from all of them and require Kate travel with all the kids, but that is not the case, because William is on that same plane/helicopter/car with them.)

Winter Solstice Author Edition out now!
Welp, I did another thing. 🙂 Winter Solstice was my second book, published in 2011 by Lyrical Press, now part of Kensington Press. It was a fun story to write and I was thrilled to have two books published by Lyrical Press, but Winter Solstice, unlike Secrets of the Lotus, was never published as a paperback. So I’ve never had it at my store, so it really feels new! I was super hesitant to…

Actual Royals dropping the ball on PR
So, one criticism of season 3 of Young Royals so far is how the court just ignored Simon, didn't offer media training, didn't offer security, and basically had the new PR person tell Wilhelm to tell Simon to stop posting shit on social media.
A lot of people think this is extremely unrealistic, of course a smooth media machine like the royal court would be prepared for something like this and have the resources and social media managers to stay on top of this and control the narrative, etc.
MEANWHILE, in the real world, in the UK, today, it's absolutely fucking amateur hour over at Kensington Palace!
The Princess of Wales has been notably absent this year for undisclosed health reasons, which is fine. However, they're pretending that everything is fine, and for mother's day they released a photo of her and her three kids, big smiles, happy family, yada yada.
Except the photo was painfully obviously photoshopped, it had been badly edited for no apparent reason. British media picked up on this immediately and refused to publish the picture. And when trying to control the damage, they released the following tweet:
😱😬🤡
Are we supposed to believe that Kate herself took the picture, and edited it herself before releasing it? That's beyond ludicrous. And that's the story they're sticking to? What PR person approved this? Are they so out of touch that they don't understand how stupid this looks?
"The plot in Young Royals isn't realistic!"
Sorry, the clowns at Kensington Palace just proved you wrong by doing something even stupider.

Hi Celta, I just read this on Quora:
"I have some more news.
Get ready for some insider information. When the news about Catherine, Princess of Wales, broke, even Marked-Down was caught off guard. But here's the kicker: if I'm more in the know about Kensington Palace than Marked-Down, what does that say about her?
I had a feeling that some bad news was on the way, and sure enough, The Hollywood Reporter published a piece.
And there's more.
While things may seem calm now, be prepared because even more shocking news is happening this year.
Even more significant revelations are just around the corner.
The takedown of all takedowns is nigh.
Everyone, hold on to your baby bumps.
Nobody but the Father knoweth the day nor the hour."
Here is the original link to the original post (hope this link works): https://harrymeghanandallthingsbritain.quora.com/I-have-some-more-news-Get-ready-for-some-insider-information-When-the-news-about-Catherine-Princess-of-Wales-broke?ch=10&oid=187400491&share=ae3c6d1f&srid=pN9VG&target_type=post
The poster's name is Jonathan Nelson.
What do you think?
Hi AranPandora,
I think that the poster is alluding to news about the Sussex children or other children of Meghan coming out. Whether he is right or not, we will know by the end of the year.
I feel that something is gathering and is going to break soon, but I am not sure what it is. It could be more bullying allegations, it could be about Meghan and her ability to have children, or it could be something completely unexpected.
Many astrologers and tarot readers have predicted something big happening to the Harkles in Oct/Nov, so this could be what they are referring to. It feels like a gathering storm to me and I am just waiting for it to break.
I feel that the Hollywood Reporter article was the equivalent of a few drops of rain. Whether the downpour follows or whether the clouds threaten but no rain/just a shower falls, I don't know.
Harry seems desperate to come home, and Meghan is behaving oddly. She skipped an appearance with Harry at an event due to "illness", which is most unlike her. She normally forces her way in no matter what. I think that something is up, but I'm not sure what it is.
