The Children of William and Lydia Coleman Mitchell
Tumblr media
From time to time, I have mentioned, most if not all, of the children of William Mitchell and Lydia Coleman Mitchell.  However, I have not listed them and their accomplishments all together.  While brief, I thought this would be nice to help highlight Maria Mitchell’s siblings.
Andrew Mitchell (1814 – 1871) A sailor who ran off to sea at sixteen, served in the US Navy during the Civil War, became a farmer, and worked at one point with his youngest brother, Henry, in some of his U.S. Coast Survey work.
Sally Mitchell Barney (1816 – 1876) An excellent celestial navigator who assisted her father with his surveying of Nantucket that was printed as a map in 1838.  Sally was also a teacher.
Maria Mitchell (1818 – 1889) America’s first woman astronomer, a founder of the Association for the Advancement of Woman, the first female professor of astronomy in the U.S. at Vassar College.  First American awarded a gold medal from the King of Denmark for her discovery of a telescopic comet in 1847.
Anne Mitchell Macy (1820 – 1900) A teacher of languages at the Coffin School on Winter Street – she was called the “Mistress of Seven Foreign Tongues” – and a member of the Association for the Advancement of Woman.
Francis “Frank” Mitchell (1823 – 1891) Frank would move the farthest from Nantucket and his family.  He and his wife, Ellen, settled in Chicago where they established a produce commission firm.
William Forster “Forster” Mitchell (1825 – 1892) An abolitionist and educator, Forster would serve as Haverford College Superintendent, supervisor and teacher in the Freedmen’s Aid Commission, and founding faculty member at Howard College (now University) where he taught tinsmithing in the Industrial Arts Department – a craft he learned from his uncle, Peleg Mitchell Jr.
Phebe Mitchell Kendall (1828 – 1907) An artist, Phebe opened a small art school on Nantucket, and travelled with her sister, Maria, to observe and paint two solar eclipses. Like her sisters, she was a member of the Association for the Advancement of Woman and she was the first woman to serve on the Cambridge, MA School Board.
Eliza Mitchell (1830 – 1833) The twin of Henry, she died at age 3.
Henry Mitchell (1830 – 1902) A US Coast Survey hydrographer, and a teacher at MIT, Henry was a founder of the National Geographic Society and participated in the design and construction of the Suez Canal.
Eliza Katherine “Kate” Mitchell Dame (1833 – 1907) The youngest and named after her deceased sister, Kate would move to Lynn, MA where many of the Mitchell family members would live or spend lengths of time – all gathered around their father, William, who had moved there with Maria in 1861.  Kate’s home became the center of the Mitchell family constellation.

6 and 25!
6. Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?
this made me realize I definitely already did this one 😭 anything from succession or the newsreader was great, honestly. idk how to really define the year, everything all blurs together for me really
25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one.
hm. I did have a succession oc I wanted to make for my kenstewy college fic; he'd be stewy's college boyfriend since I wanted to have an outside person for stewy to interact with so he could have a different perspective on what his relationship with kendall is like and what he wants it to be. I named him jamie spizanski, he's a medical student (ophthalmology) from chicago, and even just physically he's completely different from kendall; he's a beanpole, he's blonde, he's just very loud and excitable, he's a lot of fun to write and develop, really.

CityCastChicago had a couple episodes on food this week (Well, one was good places to eat at O'Hare, which I don't care about because I hate flying.) and they had an episode on The Dining Room at Kendall College. The CityCast crew said it was good, but I'm curious, have you eaten there? I feel like you've mentioned eating college-run establishments, but that might've been McDonald's?
Both, actually! The McDonalds at Hamburger University is in Fulton Market and I was there recently; it's a bit swank and sometimes has unusual foods (last time it was onion rings!) but mooooostly it's just a very upscale normal McDonalds.
But Kendall! I've had several meals at Kendall College's dining room -- it's one of my parents' favorite places to get a meal when they’re in town, because it's really good gourmet food, spectacular service, and a reasonable price. R and I also ate there once as a treat from my parents.
I skipped the episode (I saw it, went "Oh, that's Kendall, good for them" and moved on) so I don't know what they said, but I can recommend it wholeheartedly. The last time we were there, the president of the college was wooing donors at the next table over, which was hilarious to me and impressive to my parents.
The dining room used to be on Goose Island and now is downtown, so I'm not sure if the space is still as fun as it used to be, but when it was on Goose Island the entry area usually had a display of the pastry program's cakes, along with old cooking implements and industrial machinery. Great time all round.
And now that I know it's super close -- last I had heard it was going to be moving further out, so I'm thrilled to see it's on Michigan -- I might have to go have a meal! If I do I will certainly report back.

okay omg. so
Stewy’s parents were members of the upper middle-class, highly educated elite who came to the US in the early eighties to avoid the impact of the Iranian Revolution.
Stewy’s father is in banking and his mother is an academic (international relations?). They lived in Massachusetts for a year or so when Stewy was a toddler but eventually settled in New York for his father’s business. His dad is retired now, but his mom still teaches part-time at Barnard. Stewy grew up in a bilingual household, with both parents pretty much fluent in English. He speaks Farsi with his family.
Stewy has an older sister named Shirin, she is nine years his senior. They were both born in Tehran (where the family lived in an affluent neighbourhood), but they immigrated when Stewy (Sadegh, if we’re using his Farsi name) was still just an infant.
Stewy had a relatively stable childhood, with lots of money spent on his education and development. His relationship with his mom is good, although not as close as he might have liked as a child. He was outrageously spoilt by her, but she was often too busy with work to give him much quality time. She is someone he still goes to for advice, as she’s pragmatic and wildly intelligent.
He loves his sister, although their relationship has had its ups and downs. As children, Shirin was (rightfully) resentful of Stewy - he got the biggest bedroom, the best cuts of meat at dinner time, and was their parents’ ‘little prince’, whereas she (despite being smarter and more well-behaved) was so often overlooked and underestimated because of her gender. She gently bullied Stewy a lot when they were kids, and they were very competitive, especially as teens.
As adults, they have a good relationship, although they don’t see each other so often these days - Shirin trained as a lawyer, moved to Chicago for work, and now lives there with her husband and kids. She has two sons and a daughter, Stewy’s nephews and niece.
His relationship with his dad is more strained. His dad is quite similar to Logan (though nowhere near as emotionally abusive) and he had big expectations for his children, especially Stewy as his only son. Despite becoming very Westernised in a lot of ways, his dad is still firmly, proudly Muslim, and raised his kids with Islamic traditions and values. His parents and sister still practice Islam, but Stewy stopped as a teenager.
As you mentioned, Stewy being 40 and still unmarried has created some tension with his family, especially his dad. His dad - like Logan - often criticised Stewy for not being masculine enough. He, like Logan, disapproved of the relationship between Stewy and Kendall.
Stewy was always a bit of a clown and a rebel, and - especially as a teenager - he didn’t enjoy living in a quite a strict Islamic household. At fifteen, he started staying out late, drinking and smoking pot (with Kendall) and these nights often ended with both of them getting chewed out by Stewy’s dad.
Now, they rarely see one another except for on birthdays and holidays (Thanksgiving and Eid). Stewy’s dad put so much pressure on him throughout his childhood - to do well at school, to succeed at college, to do sports, to learn piano, to get married and be a ‘real man’, and now Stewy feels really distanced from him. He’ll go for lunch with his mom sometimes, but never his dad. He knows, deep down, that his dad still doesn’t really approve of him, his life, and his (queer) social circle.
Overall, he appreciates his family for giving him a good education and a privileged life but - like Kendall - he grew up always feeling as if he could never be the son his parents wanted. He rarely talks about his family, except to the closest of his friends (basically just Kendall). He prefers to distance himself from them and, instead, enjoy the life he’s created for himself.
please reblog with ur headcanons for stewy’s family bcuz i’ve heard a lot of different ideas and need to hear more

REFRESH - “Greek Geek” 2015.
I made a bunch of songs in like a week in my aunt’s attic on the west side of Chicago, and I later put it out as “Jan 15” on bandcamp. This song’s funny! It’s just a light hearted tale of frat life. Enjoy! ✌🏽

I am 24.
Im so far away from being financially stable with a part time job that lets me pay my bills
I went to therapy for a month but it costed too much but i should really go back and get on anxiety meds because it’s slowly poisoning me.
I rarely talk to my friends from Ohio. I mostly talk with taylor during reality tv airings but because I don’t drink we dont share common interests.
I dont talk to my dad anymore. After the BLM protests and Biden v Trump I realized he was never going to change. I’ve sacrificed enough energy to making sure i never stepped on egg shells and keep the peace but i couldnt do it anymore.
On brighter news
Ive resumed to my youth hobbies of playing video games. Currently Valorant & Overwatch are my favorite.
Started streaming on twitch but then quit like 7 months after.
Met my wonderful friends from the HAM community.
Travelled from Chicago to Texas with Kendall, Jake and Mike. And recently went to Kendalls award ceremony where she killed it. Theyre like home to me.
Came out as Pansexual.
And have plans to move to Texas ASAP and try college again this time with the love, support and maybe even guidance from my friends.
Maybe I might even see if i have actual feelings for Steve like ive been wondering for a while now or if its just platonic.
……
Its crazy my last update was basically the beginning of covid and im just now getting okay with not wearing a mask.

the neos as succession characters
(since there are way more neos than fixed cast members i'm taking a creative license and using in universe extras)
taeil - just a waystar employee that is really efficient at his job. for some reason he always seems to be around the higher ups but no one knows what his job actually entails. he comes and goes and when logan is like "who the fuck is that guy?" the camera just pans to him like :-D
johnny - literally cousin greg. he got off the train from chicago and immediately got himself tangled in a corporate fraud scandal. he posts vlogs to his failed youtuber channel like "hanging out in my cousins' yacht" and "we gave ten thousand dollars to a hobo to smoke a dead rat"
taeyong - naomi pierce. he's already a manic pixie dream girl so it'd be great to see him run into a torrid love affair w kendall and do coke together while they keep ignoring each other's red flags. also taeyong is so hot he would pull off naomi's dresses better than her
yuta - shiv. he's already a chaotic neutral but i feel like he could really do shiv's character justice and stop her from being a cringe failed girlboss in the process. yuta being the head of his own company would literally be a win for feminism btw
doyoung - tom. rip to all of you but i'm right. he already sings like he's literally on the brink of divorce and his wife is asking him to have a threesome w a girl but then wants him to only watch - all while trying to keep afloat a corrupt company where he got the short end of the stick to be "the face of the operation"
jaehyun - connor. he's already got the failed acting career so it makes sense that he'd turn into a patron of the arts for his paid gf
jungwoo - willa. (hiii jaewoo shippers!) he could literally make willa the most interesting character of the show and i think he'd enjoy humiliating the roys a lot. but he'd become besties w yuta's shiv
mark - cousin johnny's friend from college that is studying law but can't yet give much legal advice because he still hasn't gotten to that class. they smoke a ton of weed at one of johnny's amusement park gigs and he's the reason why johnny threw up in his costume and got fired
haechan - the tabitha to some poor fuck's roman. idek if he's actually tabitha all i know is he's there for a good time not a long time and promptly runs off with the roy's hush money after catching logan snorting coke off a hooker's ass or something.
ten - literally stewy. he's both morally and sexually ambiguous but everytime he shows up everyone is delighted. ppl keep asking for him whenever kendall goes somewhere like "hey why didn't you bring stewy?" before he goes and cries in the restroom
kun - kendall. he has three bored ape nfts and then word gets out that kun roy purchased nfts and the stock price crashes cause everyone sells theirs. look me in the eye and tell me that would not happen exactly like that
yangyang - kendall's dealer probably. like he's just around enough for it to be funny because everytime he shows up kendall is like "did i call you?" and thinks he forgot. roman has a psychosexual gay crush on him and asks for some ketamine at a party before yangyang dabs and shuts him down.
xiaojun - one of tom's cringe failed friends from college or something. he just shows up once or twice per season but he always seem to be slightly uncomfortable and gets roped into weird social situations with the roys
hendery - a friend of roman from like his weird fashion circle that doesn't do much and hangs around at the roy's parties before making fun of kendall kun
winwin - a model that shows up once in an episode w the roys and fucks off to never be seen again, yet the fandom never seems to shut the fuck up about him
