THE MUSIC LOVERS (1971) dir. Ken Russell Composer, conductor and teacher Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky is a closeted homosexual who would do anything, selfish or not, to disguise that fact during a time when his sexual preference would have cost him the one thing that he truly loved: his music. Tchaikovsky's solution is to marry, but unfortunately he chooses Antonina Miliukova, a (allegedly) nymphomaniac girl whom he cannot satisfy. His marriage is plagued by both his struggles to retain his newfound career and his lustful desire for Count Anton Chiluvsky. (link in title)

April 1934, Perthshire, Scotland
Byron called Montgomery’s mother Janet after Miranda had come up to him on a March morning, crying over her father who was having a breakdown of his own. He knew Montgomery had made an effort to ensure that his daughter never saw that side of him, but now… it worried Byron. Janet had welcomed the Walshes with open arms, more than happy to host them and see her son and granddaughter.
“I think this visit will be good for Montgomery. It’s the first time he’s left Walshstone Park in years. Perhaps it will revitalize him, and he’ll look for work again, either in Henford or elsewhere.”
Byron frowned. “I do not think so. I suspect he is planning something, but I fear the worst.” He looked at his wife. “When our lawyer came two weeks ago, he had his will updated and sealed. …I think he is planning his death, Eleora.”
“Byron, you shouldn’t think like that.”
“I’ve known him nearly twenty-one years, darling. He is a shell of the man I first met in 1913.”
Eleora did not answer.
The next evening, Byron accompanied Montgomery on a walk. It was still light out, but the hills now hid the setting sun. It reminded him of the quietness that Henford had in the early evenings.
“I can scarcely imagine what it was like to live somewhere like this and then move to a big city like Edinburgh.”
Montgomery nodded. “Aye, ‘twas a big shock to a wee country lad like meself, but ya get used to it.” He swallowed. “How’s Eleora’s family? I heard Mr. Balass is pullin’ out of Germany.”
“He is. Now that the Nazis are in power, they decided to pull any business out of the country. It was already bad after the Crash but since the elections in 1932… I worry—especially since our government doesn’t seem to care. I’d give anything to call Chamberlain a cunt to his face. Albert, Eleora’s brother, was nearly detained trying to cross the French border a month ago. It breaks my heart really. Germany seemed to be finally standing on its two legs before the Crash. With Mussolini in Italy, Hitler in Germany, and Stalin in the Soviet Union… one can only wonder what will happen.”
“Same shite from twenty years ago.”
“No, I don’t think it will go that far. We destroyed Europe in the War. To end all wars, yes? I don’t even think there is a word in English to describe such blatant stupidity if we are truly headed in that direction.”
“Byron,” Montgomery began, “I… I wanna thank ya and Eleora for takin’ Miranda in. I canna tell ya how much it means to me.”
“Of course, we’re her godparents. …We didn’t take her in, she’s merely living with us and her father.”
“I’m a shite fuckin’ father. Sometimes… she looks so much like her ma I canna even look at me own fuckin’ lass,” he confessed, his voice breaking. “God, I miss her. Edeline too.” He turned away, staring into the ground. “I’m tired, Byron. I want to be with them again. I wish it very much.”
Byron frowned, worried. “What do you mean by that?”
Montgomery turned to face him. “I love ya.”
“I… love you too. You’re my closest friend.”
“Not like that. Ya ken it’s not like that.”
“I know,” Byron whispered, feeling his throat clog up. “I’m sorry I can’t love you that way. I wish I could. I’ve only ever seen our friendship as platonic.”
The Scotsman only smiled sadly. “I ken. It’s alright. I’ve made me peace with it. Only wanted to tell ya.”
“You can always talk to me. I’m here for you. Please talk to me. What happened in March? Miranda was terrified.”
Montgomery shook his head. “Not this time, Walsh. …I promised Miranda I’d read her The Tale of Peter Rabbit before bed. She finds it funny that the farmer’s name is McGregor. Good night, Byron,” he said gently before kissing him on his forehead.
As Montgomery walked back to his mother’s house, Byron had a sickening feeling that he would not see the doctor in the morning. “Good night, Montgomery,” he whispered, tears pooling in his eyes.

BOTD: Hawaiian Petrel
Photo: Ken Chamberlain
"The Hawaiian Petrel is called 'Ua'u in Hawaiian for its haunting call, 'oo ah oo,' heard after sunset near its nesting colonies. Satellite tracking studies in 2006-2008 revealed that adult 'Ua'u fly huge, clock-wise circuits around the north Pacific Ocean during foraging trips. Breeding birds may traverse more than 6,000 miles in two weeks before returning to their burrows to feed their chicks."

I'm new on your blog. So if you allow me to ask, which kind of books do you usually read?
I personally usually read thriller/suspense, mystery like those books that have people disappearing or there's criminal investigations, the romance genre in general but I specially like historical ones (but not like connected to royalty, more like historical periods. I read a lot of books with World War I and II as background. Just finished the other day an autobiography kind of book of two jewish brothers that ran away from the nazis) and those where there's a lot of drama and suspense with the romance as in it's not like plain romance. I noticed the book you mentioned is historical romance, even though I never heard of it. Have you ever read anything from Lesley Pearse? She's the one that got me hooked in that genre.
I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy and sci-fi - just general genres that start for reality -, but every once in a while I give it a try if something catches my attention. I usually also don't read YA books or those recommended on tiktok, because I feel like that kind of writing is not really for my age range anymore 😂 I'm not exactly a teen, so the romance in those books is like eh...I usually say it's too much water with sugar
I have been trying to catch up on reading a lot of those classic books, cause I confess that I was never really into reading them. Since my first language is not English, the books you are required to read for school are the classical ones of my own language yk so it was never really a requirement, but I do think it's important. I even caught these beautiful editions that was like a magazine collection thing every two weeks. They did it to more than 50 classical books and I got a handful. I'm a sucker for beautiful covers 🤭
I read a looooot of different things. I have read some Lesley Pearce books. If you enjoy that kind of stuff, some other quite mainstream writers to look at would be Lucinda Riley (I really like her work - it’s super well researched, like I’ve legit learned things about places/historical periods in those places from her books and the storylines are really great), Kate Morton (she also takes inspiration from a range of genres), Mary Chamberlain (again, insanely well researched because she’s a history professor actually but there’s always a lot of romance and stuff and also she’s a very cool person idk), this is a specific book that I think you might enjoy - it’s kinda a historical detective story but in a weird way and there’s a lot of personal intrigue which is When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro and you will almost definitely enjoy The Remains of the Day also by him (but most of his other stuff is fantasy/sci fi tbh). Ken Follett writes epic stories (he does both detectives/thrillers and historical books but not really heavy on the romance - always a bit but not like romance books per se). Also you could try Afterlives by Abdulrazak Gurnah (not strictly romance but there is some and it’s such an interesting story and history that I’d known very little about). Idk those are some to try that I think you’d like. If you’ve read any of them lemme know and I can suggest other things too lol.
also it’s quite dreadfully written (but not as bad as a lot of BookTok faves actually) but Barbara Taylor Bradford’s A Woman of Substance (not the sequels) is a fucking EPIC story lmao. It’s also easy to read. And the sex scenes are weirdly kinda hot lmao even though it’s very fade to black haha. Like it’s not as good in terms of trying to read to improve your English vocab or interest in literature but the plot is 👌🏼😂
As I say, I’m always happy to suggest books to people because I read a lot! I try to do like at least two “serious” books a month (either nonfiction or contemporary fiction of various genres or whatever) and then I read a couple romcoms/random detective things sometimes parallel to that if I just want something that’s fun or some poetry parallel to it if I find something new or a poet I like releases a new collection and like maybe once or twice a year, I read a classic-ish thing I haven’t read before but because of how much I “had” to read when studying and “have” to read to teach, there aren’t thaaaat many I haven’t read and actively want to lol. So yeah I’m always reading something or several somethings.
In terms of The House of Doors idk man it’s a bit of a weird book so I can’t say I’m not enjoying it but it also wouldn’t specifically be something I’d be recommending, it’s just something I’m trying rn.

BREAKING DAWN - EVENT RECAP
Ooh baby, don't you know I suffer? Ooh baby, can you hear me moan? You caught me under false pretenses, How long before you let me go?
With their eyes jet black, the inflicted had no problem terrorizing their fellow neighbors and ransacking their beloved town. Ralph Middlemas fed from Jonah Rivas until Jonah passed out and needed to be rushed to the hospital. Poppy Reed took her frustrations out on the couples in town, flinging a number of residences around like a rag doll. Meena Raja ended up in Poppy's cross fire and hurt Poppy in return. Meena also broke and entered at a number of places. Amrita Singh was caught on camera enlisting Mason Mahir's help to break into Town Hall to steal the previous Council Meeting's transcript that detailed out the findings from delving into the Resurrected's memories. While, Mason cursed Fae Queen, Aiyla Baysal, with the Seven Deadly Sins curse, trading their own charity to increase Aiyla's greed. Julian Chandler got in a fight with his not-girlfriend Briar Reed. Meanwhile, Briar nearly slaughtered a deer to perform hematomancy, only to end up receiving a number of blood bags that had been taken from one Brielle Rivas. While Bri took out her frustrations on Dilan Selvi, stabbing the pixie back for having stabbed her. Ronnie Bishop nearly killed a man from feeding too much, but thankful fed them her blood before they breathed their last breath. Sébastien De Fortier pulled a knife on Ken Matsui. Arlo Ladrón, Remmington McAllister and Rae Elle Park all got siphon happy. Only for Jasmine St. Claire and Linden Reed to team up to try to hunt down and kill their father.
But, while the chaos of the night was in full swing, Silas Chamberlain had his own slew of plans up his sleeve. While most likely viewed his dark magic spell to be an attack on the town, Silas had performed the spell out of the kindness of his heart. He wanted to show the witches and vampires how great dark magic could be if they only threw away their inhibitions and allowed themselves to reach their full potential. He wanted to show them that he was on their side. So, while the inflicted were having their fun, Silas gave a select few of the Lunar Covians another gift.
Starting with his own daughter, Poppy Reed, Silas created another blood oath that used a desire fulfillment spell to undo the resurrected bond. After the resurrected were brought back from their dead, their lives were tied to the witch who resurrected them with the witch's magic being what kept them alive. Only, this meant that the necromancer who raised the dead held a great deal of power over the resurrecteds. The Catalyst could release their hold on the resurrecteds at any point, ending their lives instantaneously, and, as for his power hungry kid, better known as the Supreme, Poppy would never be able to gain immortality while her life was still tied to Jasmine. So, he figured he'd do them all a favor and break the bonds.
Breaking a resurrected bond is not an easy task and not one that can easily be replicated. It's a complex spell that requires the magic of an entire coven backing you, but when performed correctly, the results would be rather, his in own opinion, impressive. When Silas broke Poppy's resurrected bond, both Poppy and Jasmine St. Claire, the witch who brought her back from the dead, underwent a severe amount of pain as their life forces were yanked unwilling from each other. Similarly, when it came time for Brielle Rivas and Kui James, they both underwent an intense pain that likely affected the Catalyst as much as it did themselves. But, after the bonds were broken, the real fun began. A Resurrected needs magic from an outside source in order to sustain themselves and without the necromancer's magic keeping them alive, they'd have to find it elsewhere. The price the resurrecteds have to now pay for their bonds being broken is as follows-
In the case of Poppy Reed- luckily being the supreme of a coven and part of a coven means that all of the witches magic is already linked. So, while Poppy remains in the coven, her fellow coven member's magic will keep her alive and she'll be able to draw from the magic of coven to perform spells. But, if Poppy was to ever leave the coven, she would need to perform dark magic, constantly drawing magic from an external force, in order to keep herself alive.
In the case of Brielle Rivas- being a vampire means that as long as she regularly siphons magic, she will be able to stay alive.
In the case of Kui James- While most pixies can manipulate and read the emotions of others, only Kui James will need to take them. The consequence of breaking Kui's resurrected bond is that Kui James will now need to regularly steal emotions from others. When Kui takes an emotion from another, the other will no longer feel the emotion they were feeling at that present moment, while Kui will in turn take on the emotion that they were feeling. I.e. If someone was feeling angry and Kui stole that emotion from them, Kui would suddenly become filled with rage, while the person they stole the emotion from will feel a sense of calm or emptiness for a period of time before something makes them feel a sense of happiness, anger etc. again.
Only the resurrecteds who were present at this event had their resurrected bond's broken. Any future resurrecteds will still have their lives tied to the witches who brought them back. For the resurrecteds whose bonds have been broken, their lives are no longer tied to the witches who brought them back and, in turn, they won't be able to sustain their injuries as they would have before. They can get hurt and they can die from injury just as they can die if they don't draw magic from an external source. That all being said, the rest of the traits of being a resurrected still apply to them. They are infertile, they are still unable to be turned into any other species or regenerate and they will still see the dead/anyone in the astral plane at all times.
After breaking the bonds, Silas was more than ready to pack up his things and leave town. He even had a helpful tip he was planning on sharing with everyone in terms of the Catalyst's identity, but before he could leave an uplifting message to the residents, Nico Castillo averted his plans. The alpha cut him off at the town border on his way out and, rather than let Silas leave peacefully, he fought the dark coven leader. Silas left Nico there for dead while Nico managed to get a bite in and, for those of you who know what a bite from an Alpha means, Silas' dark coven is no more. Rae Elle would have felt it from across town. Her coven magic being torn from her against her wishes or control. But, those who didn't feel it would soon learn of what had gone down, for the note Silas was going to leave was replaced by a foreboding message written across the town bulletin using some of Alpha's own blood-
The Catalyst walks among you, but if you think they are the worst of your problems now, think again.
REMINDERS
Above is a recap of what has gone down IC since the spell took affect and with this plot drop, the event is now technically over. That being said, we are well aware that majority of the threads having to do with all of the above are still being written or even just beginning, so please take the next few weeks to write and react to everything that has happened above.
You can continue your event threads for as long as you would like. There is no cut off date for them. We'd just ask that if you are going to write an open starter that it is taking place on New Year's Day rather than on New Year's Eve.
This post also means that we will be accepting new characters starting tomorrow! And will return to our regularly scheduled programming in terms of acceptance.
We will also be restarting the starter rule tomorrow with acceptance and the new characters coming in. But, the starter rule will remain in affect tonight in case you want to give any of the event starters some more love and please feel free to still respond to event starters if you would like to after tomorrow. We just ask that no new event starters are created.
Last, but not least, we hope you had fun!

I hear what you’re saying about the appeal being smaller but I am dying to know how you think yugioh narratives would translate into blaseball. What’s up with Yubel? Does Pegasus’ mind reading leading him to destruction work like the precog trio? Does having access to the physical world but having to play a blood sport make Noah any less cranky?
hedge i completely love this. let's get into it
i have a couple different pitches for yubel! the first is that they were a prehistory player, probably not A Vault Legend but a pretty powerful one (like an abbott wright or smth) that just got totally forgotten by history, and when they come back they're fucking pissed. you could also even make them the parker maccy analogue complete with them being a vindictive firewalker.
yubel pitch number two is that yubel is linked to an item/mod somehow, which has a couple subpitches: the first is that it's a kennedy loser-shannon chamberlain situation (shannon got stuck permanently haunting ken) where yubel is haunting jaden. the second is that it's a non-mechanical haunting situation, sort of tugging on the thread of @polyboros's fics about jesus and tyvi and scorpler - to me a key part of yubel is that they are haunting/possessing people and so the idea of an item that also carries the spirit of a dead legendary player is really fun to me. this one def also allows the most flexibility in terms of yubel being able to haunt other people. but also lastly i HAVE to shout out jaden yuki pgr talking to the parasite (yubel is the parasite) (perhaps this is also the parasite mod. who can say) (like you know how tiana takahashi had the parasite jersey? that)
pegasus time! mind reading actually feels to me like a houston spies thing although i would take it a step further and pitch to you blaseball commissioner pegasus who is fully aware of the woes of prehistory and is doing this anyways. it starts out as kind of a coin boss situation where he is kind of a bitch and cunt about it but there's a lot of genuine empathy and before long he's more of a parker
as for noah. would bloodsports make anyone less cranky, really
no my real answer is (with a grain of salt bc i don't remember this arc super well) i don't necessarily think the virtual world and bloodsport are mutually exclusive (and there's something freaky/fun to me about the idea of only being able to be corporeal during blaseball games) but there's some more built in solidarity and love in blaseball and i think that would go a long way
#candidateofloyalty#waveridden.ask#THANKS HEDGE THIS WAS FUN#yubel (the parasite) is something that can be so personal.#blb ygo hours
