The Big Hero 6: The Series Manga Book, it's here, I've been waiting for ever!! (Only been 2 days)

I feel like BH6 the Series could have REALLY handled Karmi better than they did.

They could’ve given her a MUCH more interesting backstory, if she was there the year before (which she would have HAD to be if being the youngest at SFIT was originally her thing) she could have had a very interesting relationship with Tadashi and Callaghan where Callaghan (the dean of students as well as a professor, much like Granville) was much more interested in Baymax than in her work. And it’s not even like Granville because she has the excuse that she’s paying more attention to Hiro because he’s 14 and at college, Callaghan was picking a 20 year old Tadashi over a 15 year old Karmi just bc he’s a robotics student.

And now that Granville’s here, she’s ALSO paying attention to the robotics (and other non-bio) majors over her. Which, as a viewer, is understandable bc Granville herself is more aligned with robotics and tech than biology, but that still doesn’t give her any right to just ignore the other literal child just because she’s a biotech major and she isn’t going to accidentally blow the whole lab up. Granville just dumped Hiro onto Karmi hoping they’d get along, thinking she was unaware of the blatant favoritism going on, hoping Hiro would just adopt her into the nerd gang and make things easier. Granville was completely aware of Karmi’s utter lack of friends and connection from both her peers and any authority figures, and still decided that she didn’t deserve a mentor as much as Hiro did. Which yeah, the bio department should have paid attention to Karmi, but can the fucking dean of students pay attention to more than one genius child at a time? The answer is yes, Granville is fully capable of mentoring more than one student to be functional and ethical people who won’t blow up labs, fight each other, make killer pathogens, or make energy amplifiers.

Meanwhile, Granville didn’t know that the catalyst behind that entire friend group coming together was Tadashi, but Karmi knows this fact very well. She doesn’t want to be with the dead golden boy’s friends and she doesn’t want to be with the new golden boy either. The nerd gang probably wouldn’t want to hang out with Karmi either because she was probably standoffish towards Tadashi too. Or at least, she didn’t acknowledge him if he tried to welcome her into his group. Honey Lemon is probably the only person she would willingly hang out with and talk to (I don’t think anyone can resist her good vibes), Granville should’ve sent her rather than Hiro. Sending Hiro was like rubbing it into her face that she’s not the youngest anymore when it was all she had going for her, even thought Granville didn’t mean that.

Like, they had something good going there with the initial rivalry. Karmi blaming Hiro for Granville favoring him because he’s almost exactly like her old protégé is absolutely understandable. Karmi didn’t know any of Granville’s backstory and probably just thought it was because he’s younger and a robotics major, not because of the whole ‘being very similar to Obake’ thing. But that shit should have been resolved in Season 1. More specifically, in S1 episode 19. She should have had an epiphany in S1 ep 17 that “yeah, Hiro’s not an asshole, Granville and Callaghan had a problem with favoritism of robotics students over everyone else and I should just be fucking mature about it and take it up with Granville instead of picking fights with a 14-year-old over something he has no part in.” They did NOT need to stretch that into S2.

Karmi didn’t deserve to be the series’ punching bag, and she doesn’t deserve to be the fandom’s punching bag either. She’s 16 and at SFIT, she’s just a kid herself, give her a damn break. Of course she’s not going to be emotionally mature about authority figures she deeply respects constantly picking other people over her just bc of their major. She’s 16, of course she’s going to have crushes and write shitty fanfiction, what else do teenagers do?

She’s not some irredeemable bitch, she’s 16 and got fucked over by everyone, the characters, the show, and the fandom.

look at her. she deserved so much better.

my personal beliefs on why hiro is a victim.

YAP SESSION WARNING ⚠️‼️‼️

let me just clear up one thing before anyone decides to attack me. I am not saying that karmi has sexually assaulted or abused hiro (if that’s what anyone’s thinking when they hear the term victim), but I am saying that karmi has emotionally abused hiro with her stalker tendencies. karmi is known throughout the show to absolutely hate hiro’s guts, yet at the same time, she crushes over hiro’s superhero alter ego, also known as captain cutie. karmi constantly shames and makes fun of hiro every moment she gets, but when she sees his superhero form, she instantly gets all lovey-dovey and starts to do stuff that makes him uncomfortable, such as chasing him with love letters. nobody does anything about it. instead, they all cherish and love karmi and then proceed to not give two shits about hiro. take fan friction as an example. in fan friction, karmi writes self insert fanfiction about captain cutie, and when hiro finds out about it, he’s rightfully uncomfortable. he tries to tell his friends that he’s uncomfortable with it, but instead, they excuse it off as “just having fun”. hell even the students at hiro’s college call karmi “lucky” because they think that they’re actually dating, which only makes him even more uncomfortable. in the end, hiro gets pressured into satisfying karmi’s ego by changing their superhero names into the ones she picked out for her fanfic, even though he literally didn’t want to. need another example? prey date. in prey date, karmi gets mad at hiro for being in the labs, and she’s also seen embarrassed being around him. yet as soon as captain cutie shows up, she gets all lovey-dovey again and cuddles up with him, which hiro is shown to be uncomfortable with karmi doing this. also, karmi literally tries HITTING hiro when he instructs her to stay in the lab, which I shouldn’t have to explain why that is wrong. if you STILL need an example after this, then take issue 188 as an example too. in issue 188, hiro gets introduced to karmi, and karmi is automatically a bitch towards hiro because she took her spot as the youngest student to transfer to hiro’s college. yet, she doesn’t want granville to know because otherwise, she’d get in trouble. hiro tries to tell gogo about it, but she shrugs it off as hiro’s fault because he “took her thing”. later on in the episode, karmi is seen crushing on a picture of captain cutie. hiro says hi to karmi, and karmi instantly starts making fun of him in a way that makes him uncomfortable, saying that he has a crush on her when he really doesn’t. he then brings up the fact that karmi is crushing on a picture of captain cutie, aka him, and she starts acting creepy with him, saying stuff that makes him even more uncomfortable, and he ends up walking away. it doesn’t help that at the end of the episode, she gets away with makimg hiro’s life a living hell by comtinuing to say that he has a crush on her and by crushing on captain cutie. this just shows how much of a creep and a bitch karmi acts towards hiro, and it also shows that hiro’s “friends” really don’t care about hiro. that’s what makes hiro a victim.

BH6 Month Snippets - 2/8+9/2025

So I worked late into the night last night and finished early tonight, but on both days I did a lot of work on Young Bots and Boy Geniuses so have a bit from there:

Karmi bristled, like she wanted to be recalcitrant on purpose (why did people do this?)...deflated as she realized that wasn’t a logical response.  “No,” she admitted.  “Trengrove kicked me out.  He’s been kicking out every student that isn’t a Robotics, Physics, or Chemistry major.” “That’s not nice,” Kicho observed.  “You wanted to learn from him, what you specialize in shouldn’t matter.” “Thanks.  It doesn’t help, but thanks.” Kicho nodded, glanced over at Ms. Wower’s group.  “You could come hang out with us, I don’t think Ms. Wower would mind.” “Wendy Wower and the Woweroos?” Karmi asked dubiously, leaning to look.  “What’s Hiro doing there?” Had to pause a second to evaluate if he wasn’t allowed in and he was kicked out were similar enough to float, decided on “Dr. Trengrove didn’t want him either.” Karmi’s expression twisted, and he wondered if she was running the data comparatively, acknowledging the similarities and recognizing that there wasn’t any reason to be antagonistic with Hiro...expression smoothed out as the data finished processing.  “I know the feeling.” Kicho nodded, took her hand and led her over.  “You can sit with us,” he said.  “Ms. Wower’s starting a music number—I wanted to help but I don’t play any instruments.  Can you?” “I can play the ukelele—not in front of people,” she said quickly. Blink, not sure why that data was important.  “You could stand behind everyone.” She snorted.  “That’s not—I’m just worried that I’m not any good at it.” “Is there any data that supports that?” “I mean my parents say I’m good, but they’re my parents—I’m pretty sure telling me I’m good at something is in the parenting handbook.” Kicho hadn’t been aware that there was a parenting handbook, put look that up for Aunt Cass on his to-do list.  “Has anyone told you that you were bad at it?” “N-no....”  Look past him at Hiro, who had noticed Kicho’s company and was watching the interaction warily.  “What if Hiro makes fun of me?” “Then I’ll tell him that’s mean,” Kicho pointed out.  “Just like how I tell you that picking on him is mean.  Life is important, you can’t be spending it being mean to each other.” “I...guess you have a point,” she said, looking away.
