Shroomy: I wish I had bones.
Karen: I wish I had ketamine.

Mario: Your man doesn't have the mental fortitude to caramelize onions.
Bowser: Your man thinks it takes 5-10 minutes to caramelize onions.
SMG4: Who the fuck is caramelizing onions? Did y'all forget apples exist?
Bowser: Do... do you think caramelizing onions means putting caramel on onions!?
Mario: *texting 3 while saying it* Your man thinks caramelizing onions means putting caramel on onions.
----
Olimar: Ah, the great outdoors. A man can really hear himself think out here.

The Naked Kiss (1964)
"You know what's different about the first night? Nothing. Nothing... except it lasts forever, that's all. You'll be sleeping on the skin of a nightmare for the rest of your life."

The Trees Delete Themselves Inside a Fog-Sphere
BY FRANCIS PONGE
TRANSLATED BY KAREN VOLKMAN
In the fog which surrounds the trees, the leaves are stripped—leaves defaced already by slow oxidation, deadened by the sap's out-seeping for flowers' and fruits' gain, since the harsh heats of August made of them a less.
In the bark, vertical furrows crease and slit where dampness drains to the earth's base, indifferent to the living citizens of the trunk.
Flowers scattered, fruit conferred. Since youth, this relinquishing of breathing attributes and body parts has become for the trees a standard practice.

Hobiyee Earrings
Karen Francis
from the website: Hobiyee is Nisga’a New Years. Hobiyee comes from the phrase “Hobixis hee!” meaning the “moon is in the shape of the hoobix.” The hoobix is the bowl of the Nisg̱aʼa wooden spoon. Hobiyee signifies the potential for an abundant harvest (or filled spoon) if the crescent moon’s edges point upward. When the moon is shaped like a wooden spoon and its position aligned with the brightest star it let people of the area know the harvest season arrived. The moon rising tells us that the eulachon has arrived. The first resource that comes back from the ocean and following that the moon calls all the different species of salmon to our land

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To In September
It's Back to School season. I used to always gleam over Fall Movie, TV and Music Previews that magazine would do in and around September and now I'm doing my preview for this month! In addition to Labor Day (9/2), first day of Fall (9/22) as well as the 2nd Presidential Debate (scheduled for 9/10), MTV Video Music Awards (9/11), and Emmy Awards (9/15) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
I was a big fan of Tim Burton's 1988 original and now 36 years later, Burton and cast members, including Michael Keaton, return for a sequel. There have been more than a few sequels in recent years that came along 30+ years after the last film. Some better than others. But hopes are high for this one. Opening 9/6 (review to come).
Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos
Alex Gibney is one of the great documentarians of our time and now he is turning his attention to one of the greatest TV shows of all time, The Sopranos and it's creator David Chase. Premieres 9/7 on Max (review to come).
The 4:30 Movie
Kevin Smith is back with his first film since Clerks III. This one is a semi-autobiographical look at teen film geeks in 1986. I love it already!!! Opening 9/13 (review to come).
Lee
Ellen Kuras has been one of the greatest cinematographers of the last 30 years, notably the work she's done with Ted Demme, Jonathan Demme, Spike Lee and Michel Gondry. In recent years she has very quietly been getting into directing as well. In this biopic, Kuras directs Kate Winslet as Lee Miller, a model-turn-war-photographer during World War II. Opens 9/27.
Megalopolis
Francis Ford Coppola is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. His last movie was nine years ago. This one is being released in IMAX. I hope all of the behind the scenes drama doesn't overshadow the film itself because hopes are high! Opening 9/27.
Will & Harper
Mixing it up between documentary and narrative, director Josh Greenbaum is back with a new doc that was a Sundance hit. He is the director of one of my favorite documentaries of the last decade Too Funny to Fail so I am looking forward to this one. Premieres 9/27 on Netflix.
Music:
Karen O and Danger Mouse Lux Prima reissue
The Lux Prima collaboration between Karen O and Danger Mouse was my #1 Album of 2019. To celebrate the 5th anniversary, the album is getting a reissue with a new song and booklet. Album drops 9/20.
TV:
Nothin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of '80s Hair Metal
I've been digging a lot of the musical documentaries that Paramount+ has been doing, notably their recent Lollapalooza doc series. Now they are releasing a docu-series about the history of 80s hair metal. I'm looking forward to it and almost wish I had made it!?! Premieres 9/17 on Paramount+ (review to come).
