Quiz Nights & Karaoke Nights in Cambridge
We at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub in Cambridge think that going out to eat is about more than just getting great food. We believe it's about making memories, having fun, and spending time with family and friends. To give our guests more than just a meal, we have a fun Quiz Night in Cambridge every Wednesday and a Karaoke Night in Cambridge every other Friday. The point of these events is to have fun and bring people together in a lively and fun way.
Let's examine what makes Quiz Nights and Karaoke Nights at The Brook such a popular part of Cambridge's nightlife.
Quiz Night in Cambridge: At Brook Indian Gastro Pub
What's Quiz Night?
A quiz night is a social event where people get together in groups to answer questions from different categories. The goal is to win prizes and, of course, the honour of being the best. Teams have to think quickly and work together in this battle of quizzes, facts, and knowledge. We have the best Quiz Nights in Cambridge at The Brook, which are a fun way to spend a Wednesday night, whether you're a trivia fanatic or just looking for something to do. The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and anyone can join in.
Our Quiz Nights happen every Wednesday at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub starting at 8 PM. Trivia fans from all over Cambridge come together for a night of fun, friendly competition, and hard questions.
What Should You Expect at Quiz Night?
The Atmosphere:
Think about this: Around the cosy table where you and your friends are sitting are other trivia fans and casual quizzers. You all have drinks in your hands and are excited. Our quiz nights have a friendly, open vibe that's great for both first-timers and people who have been to quiz nights before. As the night goes on, you'll be swept up in the excitement, arguing with your team about the right answer and joining the cheers when you get a tough question right.
The Quizmaster:
Our charming quizmaster isn't just there to ask questions; they're what the event is all about. They make sure everyone is having a great time by joking around and setting the mood. Our quizmaster makes sure that there are questions that are easy, medium, and hard so that everyone can find something they can use.
The Questions:
At The Brook's Quiz Nights, you can expect a lot of different types of questions from history to pop culture to sports and more. You might be asked to remember obscure facts about sitcoms from the 1990s, to test your geography skills, or to argue about a difficult song lyric. No matter how good you are at trivia or just want to have fun, our quizzes are made so that everyone can enjoy them.
Spirit of the Team:
Teams work together on Quiz Nights at The Brook. You can make a team with your friends, or if you're by yourself, we'll help you find a group of other quiz fans. Quiz nights are so much fun because you have to work with other people to answer hard questions. Teamwork is important because you don't have to know everything there is to know about every subject. Someone on your team might know the answer you don't.
Prizes:
What's a quiz night without prizes? The biggest prize is beating your opponents and feeling good about it, but we also have some nice prizes for the winning team. Every time a winner comes home, they get something special. It could be free food, drinks, or gift certificates.
Food and Drinks:
The Brook's tasty food and drinks are a must for any night out. Whether you're having one of our famous Indian-inspired dishes or a craft beer, our menu goes well with the lively atmosphere of quiz night. While you take the test, eat some Szechuan Shrimp Lettuce Cups or Mini Masala Dosas.
Karaoke Night in Cambridge: Brook Indian Gastro Pub
What Are Karaoke Nights?
You can let loose, have fun, and belt out your favourite songs at karaoke nights. People can interact with the entertainment by singing along to popular songs while seeing the words on a screen. People all over the world love to sing, and at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub, we bring the party to you every other Friday starting at 8:30 PM with Karaoke Nights in Cambridge.
Karaoke Night in Cambridge at The Brook is a great way to let out your inner rock star, no matter how experienced you are as a performer or how often you sing in the shower. It's not about being perfect; it's about having fun, singing your heart out, and enjoying the company of other people who are going through the same thing.
What Can You Expect at Karaoke Night?
The Stage Is Yours:
Everyone is welcome to take the stage at The Brook because we make it a calm and friendly place. Whether you're singing by yourself or with a group, the mood is all about having fun and not being a professional. The mic is ready, the stage is set, and the crowd is always excited and supportive. Don't be shy—now is your chance to shine!
Choice of Song:
There are a lot of songs to choose from at our Karaoke Nights, from old hits to new chart-toppers. We have what you're looking for, whether you want to listen to Queen, Adele, or an old Bollywood hit. You can sing your favourite ballads, groove to 80s hits, or even get nostalgic with some old hits. There are hundreds of songs to choose from. Everyone can find something they like in music.
The Crowd:
The friendly and lively crowd is one of the best things about Karaoke Nights at The Brook. The energy is always good, whether you're singing or cheering other people on. The crowd laughs, cheers, and supports, so you can be as crazy or calm as you want without worrying about what other people think. The whole point is to enjoy yourself and enjoy the fun of the moment.
Solos and performance by groups:
Karaoke isn't just for one person! Invite your friends to join you on stage for a spectacular duet or group show. Singing with other people can help you get over stage fright and make it more fun as you try to harmonize (or very badly fail to harmonize) with your friends. A great way to please everyone is to sing a group song with your friends. Put on a show that everyone will remember.
Karaoke nights with themes:
We sometimes like to mix things up by having themed karaoke nights where people are asked to sing songs from a certain era, genre, or theme. Our themed karaoke nights, like "80s Night" and "Special Songs," make the fun even more exciting. Check our event calendar to see when these nights are!
Competition that is fun:
Even though Karaoke Nights are just for fun, we do have competitions every once in a while where the winner gets a prize. There are always prizes to be won, whether it's for hitting those high notes, having the best stage presence, or putting on the funniest show. If you want to shine in front of everyone, don't forget to bring your A-game!
Why Attend The Brook Quiz and Karaoke Nights:
A Fun Way to Spend Time With Others:
Quiz Nights and Karaoke Nights are both great ways to meet new people, whether you're chatting over trivia questions or cheering on a karaoke performance. That's the best way to stay in touch with friends or meet new people.
Take a break and have fun:
After a long week, what could be better than singing your favourite song or taking a fun quiz? For everyone, it's just about having fun in a relaxed setting.
Food and drinks that taste great:
Our Indian Gastro Pub Food has an Indian-inspired menu and many different drinks to choose from to make your night better. We'll take care of you whether you want to snack during the quiz or drink cocktails while singing.

People love the Brook Indian Gastro Pub because it has a friendly vibe. You'll feel right at home whether you're good at trivia or new to karaoke.

So I was thinking earlier for the Avengers Bunch
What if…while on a mission and in the middle of the fight reader is listening to music and just starts humming which leads to singing quietly till other young avenger hears and joins and another one and so on
the young avengers just start singing cause someone is anxious or just because they’re bored and when they run into the enemy they are like what is happening
And the song would be “We Didn’t Start The Fire” Fallout boy rendition or you can chose
The Avengers Bunch | Who's Robert Downey Jr Anyway?! #004
Summary: ^^ Requested.
Warning: Violence. Mentions of real-life events from 1989 - 2023 that could be triggering.
Word Count: 567

On the outskirts of an abandoned nuclear power plant, bursts of energy and lights flashing illuminated the night sky. The recruits were in the thick of their mission, each one of them locked in their conflict. Amidst the chaos, you crouched behind a pile of rubble, trying to catch your breath and reload your guns. After a moment, you remembered you packed your AirPods…
“Why do you need them?” you remember Bucky asking you from your doorway.
Slipping them into your ears, you pressed shuffle on your playlist, and the familiar strains of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Fall Out Boy filled your senses. As you re-entered the battle, you found yourself humming along to the beat.
Softly, the hums turned into singing, barely audible over the fights. “Captain Planet, Arab Spring, LA riots, Rodney King…”
Nearby, Kate crouched with her bow at the ready, glancing over at you. “Are you singing?”
You gave her a sheepish grin, still humming. “It’s to help me focus.”
Nodding, Kate smiled at you before she took a deep breath and joined on the next line. “Deepfakes, earthquakes, Iceland volcano…”
Spider-Man swung in from above you, delivering a kick to a robotic enemy. He landed next to you, eyebrows raised beneath his mask. “Cool! Karaoke time!” Without hesitation, he joined in, surprisingly in tune. “Oklahoma City bomb…”
Suddenly, an amplified voice added a deep resonance as a shadow loomed over you. “I am Groot, I am Groot, I am Groot, I am Groot…” Groot has caught on to what was happening.
Soon enough, the four of you were all belting out the song, your voices melding together in a harmonious chorus. Your enemies, a group of heavily armed mercenaries even paused in their attacks. Staring in confusion at you all.
“What the hell?” one of them muttered, lowering their weapon slightly.
Even the most seasoned in their ranks, looked bewildered. “What is happening?” he growled, becoming distracted for a moment.
You and your friends never missed a beat. You used the mercenaries’ confusion to your advantage. “Cambridge Analytica!” you sang together, your voices rang out across the battlefield.
As the last of the mercenaries were knocked out, you regrouped, still singing the lines of the song.
Kate paused and looked confused when you all sang, “Robert Downey Jr, Iron Man.” Picking up her arrows she asked, “Wait, who’s Robert Downey Jr anyway?”
“No idea,” Peter shrugged, sending one more punch toward a waking mercenary. “Must be some old actor.”
Groot nodded, “I am Groot.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Tony will know.”
~
Once your enemies were tied up and the area was secure, you made your way back to the Quin Jet. As you and the rest of your team boarded, still humming together, you found the ‘older’ Avengers sitting inside, their heads in their hands.
Bucky looked up first, his face a mix of annoyance and amusement. “Do you realize we have comms? We heard… everything.”
Steve sighed, rubbing his temples. “Every. Single. Note.”
With a raised eyebrow, Natasha made her way over to you. “Not the most conventional tactic, but it worked.”
You blushed slightly. “Sorry, we just got carried away.” Sharing a look with your friends, you all tried to stifle your laughter. Leaning back in your seat, you began to hum softly again as the Quin Jet lifted off.
“For the love of Odin, shut up!”

( renee rapp. cis fem (?). she/her. ) - let me introduce you to a member of the eversley family, charlotte eversley is the middle daughter. they are twenty-six and are known as the queen bee to the family because they are obsessive, clever, and cruel when you get to know them, you think about legally binding contracts signed in glitter gel pen; the constant struggle between imposter syndrome and god complex but they’re still an eversley, nonetheless.
ORIGINS & FAMILY:
Name: Charlotte Alexandria Eversley
Nickname: Lottie, Lots, Char, Charlie (at your own risk)
Birthday: May 7, 1998
Place of Birth: Eversley Estate, Hampshire, England
Places Lived Since: Oxford, UK; Leiden, NL; Cambridge, US; London, UK
Current Residence: London, in a townhouse absolutely paid for by her father
Notable Family Members: Hazelnut Eversley ( child, 2 year old standard poodle ); Daphne Eversley ( twin sister, best friend ); Adrian Eversley ( older brother ); Imogen Eversley ( older sister ); Hector Eversley ( oldest brother ); Charles Eversley ( father, idolizes ); Ignes Eversley ( mother, pities )
PHYSICAL:
Faceclaim: Reneé Rapp
Height: 5’7
Build: curvy
Hair Color: blonde
Eye Color: blue
Jewelry? Tattoos? Piercings?: always wearing one of her father’s old watches, several piercings in both ears, a good amount of tattoos ( will be expanded upon )
Unique Mannerisms/Physical Habits: playing with her hair when anxious, drumming her nails, being cruel for sport
PERSONALITY:
Occupation: lawyer for her father’s company
Education: Law Degree from Oxford University, LLM from Harvard Law School
Languages Spoken: English, French, passable Dutch, Latin because she’s annoying
Positive Traits: outgoing, ambitious, dedicated, meticulous, clever
Negative Traits: obsessive, manipulative, vindictive, cruel, arrogant
Likes: iced coffee, glitter gel pens, the oxford comma, a particularly tricky legal argument, early 2000s chick flicks, singing chappell roan after three espresso martinis at karaoke
Dislikes: sloppy writing, boston as a concept, playing nice, the legal ambiguity of working for your father, birds kept as pets, losing at anything, being lied to
Aesthetic: perfectly crafted citations; falling asleep to the comforting sounds of the city; fighting dirty, because you don’t know any other way; a turning page in a silent library; your father is the worst man alive, you are his favorite daughter; the sound of expensive heels across marble lobbies; is it worse to be doomed by the narrative, or haunted by it?
HISTORY:
The fourth child, the second daughter, the older twin – she’s nearly as middle as a middle child could be. And yet she’s the one gifted a variation of her father’s name. Perhaps it's a coincidence, or Ignes merely liked the name – Lottie doesn’t know, she wasn’t fully conscious yet at the time of her naming. But it matters. It has to matter – names carry meaning, to name something is to grant it power, worth. Charlotte’s spent her entire life trying to prove herself worthy of her father’s affection and trust.
The older twin by a mere ten minutes, Charlotte comes out screaming. Daphne follows, setting the pattern for most of their lives. Charlotte is bright and bold – the sun, but not warmth: a burning, blazing pursuit of power, anger and armor in a pretty blonde package. Daphne her moon – ethereal and lovely, quiet with dark hair and dark eyes; reflecting back the brightness and burn, a guiding light in the darkness.
They are a package deal, something Lottie makes quite clear to everyone in that poison laced honey way of hers. The Queen Bee reigns with her sister close by – gaining power through a combination of charm, manipulation, and other, crueler accusations that never stick. Charlotte’s not just the popular girl – she’s also obsessive to a fault, a perfectionist who absolutely won’t accept failure. She’s naturally clever, of course, but not everything comes so easily – she just makes it look like that. Sleepless nights full of self-loathing and relentless dedication to whatever subject is giving her trouble result in near perfect marks and a lifelong tendency to dance right on the edge of self-destruction.
Perfection leads to Oxford, of course, and despite her best-efforts, Lottie’s never been all that good at numbers, so she studies the law. She loves a challenge, the intricacies and various loopholes that craft something particularly clever and weighty. Two years at Oxford, then her third year in Leiden, studying international & European law. The family business is international, so it’s the obvious choice. But it's the first time she’s away from Daphne, and it takes a toll. Daphne goes dark, but Lottie burns hotter and faster. She’s crueler – like something has been torn away and left all her edges jagged and sharp.
Daphne publishes a novel – and Lottie’s her biggest fan, bullying everyone she knows into buying a copy or two. She’s always known her sister was capable of greatness, hated anyone who dismissed Daphne’s shyness or kindness as weakness. The success of Daphne’s novel is probably the only time Charlotte’s ever let herself be truly, selflessly happy for someone else’s success. It lasts their final year at Oxford, but that’s not enough for Lottie. So she spends a year at Harvard gaining an LLM degree and a profound hatred for Boston. She returns to London, and naturally starts working for her father’s company. Here lies the biggest disconnect of Miss Charlotte Eversley’s young life – she idolizes her father, has spent her entire life living up to his name; but she’s also fought tooth and nail to prove that she deserves this position on merit, not her father’s name. She should work for an outside firm first, establish herself in the field. But he’s old, and his health is failing despite the façade they present to the public. So Charlotte falls in line, and weaponizes her beauty and cleverness against anyone who’s foolish enough to suggest she’s not earned her position.
EXTRAS:
She currently lives in a townhouse in London with her only child, a 2-year-old chocolate colored standard poodle named Hazelnut.
Chaotic bisexual
She and Daphne attended the last night of the Eras Tour LA in August, 2023 together ( 1989 tv was announced ) but then had a huge argument after the concert due to Lottie being a bitch to Daphne’s date & accusing them of only being with her for the family money. The twins have been on bad terms / estranged ever since
She loves all her siblings and would commit atrocities for them, but they are still subject to her harshest judgement ( except for Daphne up until last year ) and she’s never been one to mince words. Still – it's very much ‘only I can say that about them, I’ll ruin anyone else who dare say so.’
She is left-handed.
Her father is the only one to call her Charlie.

Essentials 2, 3 and 7 for Penelope, and Life 2, 3 and 8 for Sorcha? 😁
The Essential Penelope
What year were they born (or how old would they be in life), and what age do they appear? What age do they feel?
Penny was born in 1909, ghouled in 1948, and Embraced in 1959, just shy of her birthday. She looks late thirties - it's hard to imagine her not looking late thirties, in theory she must have been a child at some point, but she gives the impression that she plopped into the world at Cambridge aged twenty-two and nothing that came before particularly mattered.
She feels no age at all. Penelope is Penelope. Her sense of self is a bit ragged, underneath the iron confidence she projects, and she could be ninety or nine hundred: it wouldn't matter. She'd still be her. Whatever that means.
Which Clan do they belong to? How do they feel about their Clan?
Lasombra. Nominally, Lasombra antitribu, but which sense of the word is... up for debate. In the Sabbat, she was very much a "pack first, sect second, clan third" thinker - as far as she's concerned, all True Sabbat are antitribu and should be working on transcending the limitations of their bloodline, and the Panders who rise from mass Embraces are lucky to have a head start.
But... she still has a chip on her shoulder about it. She is of the bloodline of Montano, and she's been thoroughly taught what that means. An outcast's outcast, choosing the high and noble road, and she can't have that without being Lasombra, and she can't really dine out on it in the Sabbat either.
Which Disciplines do they possess, and which do they favor using?
Oblivion 3, Dominate 2, Celerity 1, and if I re-use her as an antagonist for another story, she'll have picked up some Potence and Animalism to go (and probably a bit more Oblivion). In her role as priestess and interrogator, she finds the applied theatricality of Oblivion suits her down to the ground, but in the field, she's more reliant on her Celerity and talent for stealth.
Getting a Life with Sorcha
Do they still have mortal family or friends, or descendants of those people? Who were they closest to during life, and is there anyone they’ve contacted after their Embrace?
Hell yes she does - she's a Dunsirn, she still lived with her folks for the first six months after she died. Besides her vampire da, Sorcha is still in touch with her mother in Venice, and most of the cousins she grew up with are at least on Instagram-commenting terms. Schoolfriends are fewer and further between - she's sold drugs to a lot of them but that doesn't mean they're friends. She has stayed in touch with Wee Tam, her tenant and bestie and Touchstone, and she rooms with a little gang of medical students who know her as their weird RA who lives in the cellar and can't go to lectures 'cause she's got Schere's Disease. On top of that, she has a lot of acquaintances - she's distinctive, she's out on the town at least three nights a week, and she's got the good molly.
What were their hobbies, skills, and interests?
Hmm, this is trickier - Sorcha tends to monetise anything she's good at - but she never figured out how to make money out of dance, or gymnastics. Her form's not great, but she's surprisingly bendy and she has a good time with it.
Her school reports indicated she had a prodigious knack for chemistry and design - the subjects she ended up taking to Bacc. level and walking out with a Distinction, thank you kindly.
She likes karaoke, but she has an awful singing voice, and has been gently dissuaded from participating.
When they were Embraced, what was the aftermath like? Did they fake their death, do their loved ones think they went missing, etc.?
Oh, Christ. Sorcha's Embrace was one of the events that kicked off a whole chronicle. She bled out on her junkie "boyfriend's" mattress, and was rescued by her dad, and she doesn't know which of them Embraced her or why she came out thinblood. All she knows is, Jimmy's very dead (he copped a hatchet to the back of the head two nights after she died), and to all intents and purposes she is Alistair's childe.
Her family knew, of course they knew - Hecata, remember? Most of her casual acquaintances have heard that she OD'd, and suspect that her dad had something to do with what happened to Jimmy, and that's another reason people from school don't stay too close to her - nobody wants to be next. She was back on the dancefloor by the end of the month though, bragging about her results and dancing her ass off... and then she really disappeared, leaving Glasgow for the best part of three years.
Her social media was deleted and remade a couple of times in there, she was posting from LA (except when she wasn't) and she went very #desertaesthetic for a while, then off the grid completely, but she seems to have come out swinging in the last eighteen months.
The thing is, people who know Sorcha know she's a freak, and a dealer, and that her dad's some sort of gangster. They're kinda used to weird shit happening around her. It's a big part of how she gets away with being like she is.

Sergeant Christine ‘Riot’ Vega, Task Force 141
https://archiveofourown.org/works/47442772
Nationality: Spanish/British
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexuality: Bi (prefers men)
Birth date: 5th September, 1994
Height: 170 cm / 5ft 7in
Weight: 70 kg / 154 pounds
Hair: Natural blonde in several tones ranging from honey to almost platinum
Eyes: Light blue
Build: Curvy/Hourglass, well toned by training
Blood type: O- (universal donor, is fucked if needs blood though, Price is always requesting supplies when they’re on an op just in case)
Favourite colour: Red
Preferred civilian clothing: When off duty she usually wears blue jeans, usually skinny, red or black t-shirts, and black hoodies or sweatshirts, with trainers or boots and a leather biker jacket.
Hobbies: Cooking, learning languages, videogames, music (rock and metal specially, has a soft spot for pop and electronic sometimes), History and Archaeology
Studies: College graduated in History and Archaeology by Cambridge (online degree)
Parents: Medics for Doctors without borders, killed in a terrorist attack in Benin when she was eighteen and in college in UK. She enlisted right away and finished her degree online.
Languages: Spanish (mother tongue), English (C2), French (C1), German (C1), Russian (B2) / Can survive in Italian and Portuguese, and is trying to learn Japanese and Chinese
Tattoos: A rampant phoenix in an aggressive attacking position on her upper back and a triquetra on her right ankle (Soap has the same design on his left ankle)
Scars: Plenty on her body, from bullets to knife cuts. The more recent one is the large half assed Glasgow smile on the left side of her face, from the corner of her lips to almost her cheekbone, the reason why she wears the mask.
Headcanons:
- Plays both guitar and bass guitar, and Soap tried to teach her to play the drums
- They used to have a music group with other rookies
- Cold, silent and collected when in the frontline, Soap got a liking to Ghost at first because he reminded him of her. Down to the stupid deadpan jokes.
- Met Soap in boot camp, they were fast friends/brother-sister because both their brains work alike (lightning speed). She admires Soap’s proficiency with things that go BOOM, and considers him to be wicked smart, she can’t calculate that fast to save her life
- She adores Ghost’s jokes, and enjoys greatly to hear Soap squirm with them
- Despises tea, calling it ‘pissy water’ (her mother loved it though), prefers water, juice or coffee
- Rarely drinks alcohol
- Sings in the shower and used to like going to karaoke bars
- She is always cold
- Gets mouthy the more physically hurt she is. If she’s getting mouthy, flirty and cheeky, she’s bleeding heavily. Soap is thankful Ghost is not like that
- Her brain works at 200% speed, storing info (hopefully useful, most of the time it’s not). Example: she learns languages fast because she memorizes vocabulary and phrases at lightning speed, but she also knows by heart tons of dog breeds.
- Hyperfocuses on shit to the point of obsession and sleepless nights
- Her call sign Riot is NOT because she’s a riot (well she is), the story is even better. It involves a SAS rookie op in Turkey, staging a riot in a prison, breaking Soap out of the prison’s infirmary and a stunt leaping from a roof Soap still has nightmares about.
- She has a fucked up knee since then (and will keep fucking it up more, you’ll see)
- Likes very spicy food but can’t have cilantro: tastes and smells like trash to her (she has that gene, yeah)
- Has PTSD from the op in Transnistria, has flashbacks and breakdowns sometimes, but is determined to keep going. Price is surprised/pleased to learn that she goes to therapy weekly, instead of the mandatory once a month (he had to drag Soap and Ghost to go even once a month, specially after Las Almas which is why Price has deemed it necessary; Gaz goes bi-weekly)
- Got licensed as a drone pilot after a bad op with her previous unit, HeadHunters, where she was on medical leave for three months. She was bored out of her mind not doing anything, so she signed up for a course.
- Hates her last Captain with the passion of a burning sun, dreaming of putting a bullet to his skull. Price understands and approves (he despises him too), just warned her to not be caught if they happen to cross him (he has an alibi prepared).

HOW YOU MIGHT KNOW / WHERE YOU MIGHT MEET CEE -- a quick and dirty guide
VIOLET'S BAR, LONDON. Celia bought Violet's in 2014 with her best friend Alessia Pixie in London's West End. The bar was voted the most up-and-coming in 2015 and was the background for many fashion parties on Instagram. While Alessia manages the day-to-day running of the bar, it remains Celia's main watering hole (free drinks, close to her house!), and she can often be found here.
THE HOLMES ART COLLECTIVE. When Celia was twenty-eight, she took over her mother's charity, The Holmes Art Collective. The charity buys art from around the world, sometimes priceless originals and lends them to hospitals and public spaces. While the collective has three full-time members of staff who actually do the work, Cee is the face of the charity and buys work on behalf of the collective. It may or may not also be a front for money laundering.
VOGUE MAGAZINE. Celia worked for Vogue Magazine (French, British and American) from 2008 to 2020 (or continues to work for the magazine, depending on the verse). She's a prominent name in fashion, even after she has left the magazine.
ENGLISH PRIVATE SCHOOL. Celia's high school is an elite fee-paying boarding school based somewhere in England. It's kept vague to allow for pre-established things. Although it was an all-girls school, it would have had a "brother" school, and the two schools would have regularly intermixed while she was there.
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY. Although Cee never graduated, she spent four years at Cambridge University in the early 2000s. For the sake of plot, this can be changed to any London-based university or Oxford.
LONDON/NEW YORK CITY NIGHTLIFE. There is nothing Celia enjoys more than a night on the town. A late supper, a karaoke bar, and dancing until the early morning. The more trouble she can get into, the better. Cee will often go home with someone she doesn't know over going home on her own.

graham chose to ignore being checked-out so obviously, but he couldn't help the small blush that crept its way from the capillaries on his neck into his cheeks. "thank you, uh," he checked the glow of his phone screen to get the driver's name, "iris." before rounding the car to get to the back, passenger's-side seat, he took a glance back at the glow in the living room window. graham felt minimally guilty leaving nana dottie to watch the new episode of jeopardy on her lonesome, but he needed some energy outlet that did not include back-and-forth guessing between him and a seventy-something year old. it was time to be around people his own age, for once. she was more than happy, he knew, to have an evening to herself, it was all graham's conscience that left him unnerved. getting a shot or two in his system would calm any of those lingering anxieties.
for now, he settled for a stick of mint gum, unwrapping it from the plethora of options iris had offered. "you come wildly prepared, this may just be the nicest uber in blue harbor i've had the pleasure of taking a ride in," in cambridge, the drivers had a similar array of extras and backseat trivia or karaoke. graham had found blue harbor ubers to be a standard car ride, with awkward eye contact and small talk on the side. he eyed the karaoke machine, butterflies flapping against his stomach lining, "i think it will take a few drinks from the labyrinth to give me that courage; so thank you, but no thank you."
the mention of a "hot date" almost made him laugh. it had been a while since graham had played the field. it wasn't the most romantic thing in the world to take a girl back to his grandmother's house, and it saved him a lot of heartbreak and anxiety by staying single, for the time being. "no date, just a night out before this charity... thing... tomorrow. i'm trying to pre-game my way through the night to save face tomorrow."
as soon as that oh-so familiar location lit up her screen, iris dropped everything. literally. drink once tucked in her grip nearly toppled over onto her lap before she could set it in the cup holder, fries stuffed into her mouth at a speed that would make a competitive eater clutch their pearls. the fast and furious films truly had nothing on the way she was whipping down the streets and in record time there she was, sitting right outside the one home she'd driven by nearly every day on her way to cinemaos. same one she found herself admiring time and time again, even tried looking the place up on zillow in her downtime to check the interior but zilch – just a grainy google street view. fingers drummed against the wheel along to the fading sounds of 100 gecs – she knew well enough to get one song in before plaguing her poor passengers with what could arguably be considered an ear-bleeder. as if on cue, “ yeoooh ! hop on in, graham. ” unapologetic in the way she eyed her pick-up up, she even tilted her head. it was nice to finally put a face to the abode. she wanted to say something, but opted against it ... for now. didn't want to come off too joe goldberg-y. “ feel free to help yourself to some candy, advil, gum, mints, hand sanitizer, ” all situated in a multi-pouched organizer hung over the back of her seat. “ or if you feel like channeling your inner adele ... ” she thumbed over at the mini karaoke machine she had rigged up in the back like she was xzibit on pimp my ride. “ totally understandable if you wanna save your energy for the 'byrinth. ” a beat. “ you got a hot date ? ”

A/N : Dearest Dom @utterlyinevitable sent me this request and I was so excited to write it down. Thank you so much for sending it my way, I hope you like it.
A/N 2 : PB has given us literally zero background on Jackie, and I hate them for it so I have taken certain liberties while writing this fic. So forgive me if it feels incorrect. Anyways, happy reading! ☺️💖
It had been a long week. Actually scratch that, it had been a long couple of weeks. The exhaustion of chief resident responsibilities was weighing down on Jackie's shoulders.
Happy to finally get a night off, Jackie made her way to Donahue's, sat down on a barstool and signaled Reggie for a tequila on the rocks. All she wanted to do was drink to her heart's content and crash back at her apartment.
One too many drinks, embarrassing karaoke and some awkward flirting later Jackie was finally ready to call it a day when a news playing silently from a small television at the bar caught her attention.
"Car crash at Cambridge Street and Court Street crossing takes terrible shape with atleast five deaths and many serious injuries."
Jackie looks up to the screen and snatches the remote from another customer to increase the volume.
"The first responders from Bloom Edenbrook Hospital are already at the scene…"
The rest of the news reporter's words fades away in her throbbing head. The very unwelcoming beep of her pager made her curse.
"911" it said, which meant it doesn't matter if you have been doing fifteen to twenty hour shifts, mountains of paperwork and sleeping in the on-call room for the last month you have to be at the hospital right now.
Jackie ran a hand through her face and hair, all she wanted was one, one peaceful evening without those idiotic interns breathing down her neck, but it was apparantly too much to ask.
With another beep from her pager, Jackie stood up and dragged her very drunk body out of Donahue's.
The hospital was in a mess. The patients hadn't arrived yet but the lack of direction and authority made the interns and her fellow residents erratic. She went into the trauma room picking up protective gear on the way.
"Alright, listen up everybody," she clapped her hands together, drawing everybody's attention.
"Jackie, are you drunk?" Meera asked, concerned.
"Big time," she said, rubbing exhaustion off her eyes. "Okay, so this is how we are gonna work : interns, divide yourselves into groups of three and work one patient together. Residents will be responsible for two such groups and overlook their working. Page the respective attendings whenever necessary. This is a crisis situation. We need to save as many lives as we can, so work fast but keep your heads cool," Jackie is interrupted by the familiau blaring sound of the ambulance. "Now move, move, move!" all doctors scurried towards the emergency exit. Jackie stops to catch her breath, her head spinning.
"Impressive work, Dr. Varma," Naveen comes to stand beside her.
"Thank you sir," Jackie manages to say.
"You can't treat patients in this condition."
"I am so sorry sir, I wasn't on-call today and I had just finished…"
"You don't need to explain yourself," Naveen smiled. "What you do in your personal time is none of our business. But these patients are our responsibility and I can't allow you to treat them."
"But I can't go home! I can't leave everyone in the middle of a crisis."
"Dr. Varma," Naveen placed his hand on her shoulder, "go get yourself a banana bag IV, get some rest and come back when you feel better. I promise, I'll personally try to take up your role."
Jackie nodded. She helped Naveen tie his surgical gown and looked over the chaotic ER one last time before making her way out.
Harper had just stopped a brain bleed and performed a cookie craniotomy on two trauma patients in the past hour. She was in desperate need of caffeine, and the coffee machine in the attendings' lounge was broken.
She walked into the residents lounge to find Jackie sitting under a dim light and cursing under her breath. Surprised and curious, Harper silently sneaked up behind Jackie and silently watched as she struggled to place the needle on her arm.
"Do you have a death wish?" she chuckled sitting down beside her.
"You startled me," Jackie hiccuped.
"Here, let me," Harper said, trying to take the needle from her.
"No!" Jackie said as if someone was trying to take away candy from a kid. "I can do this! I am a doctor, I am the chief resident, I can place my own IV."
"I know, you can, Dr. Varma, but sometimes it's good to ask for help," Harper smiled.
This time Jackie didn't protest and Harper successfully obtained the IV needle. She looked at Jackie's arm and noticed a dozen scar marks across her arm. Harper looked at Jackie confused. Jackie lets out a sigh turning away from her, "see, I told you I can do it…"
"No, let me see your scars… please?"
Jackie turned around again, putting her arm out for Harper.
"Growing up in an Indian family wasn't easy," she sighed. "You get anything less than A and you get these as gifts," she pointed to the scars. "Then there was this stupid, stupid boy, in college, with whom I was supposedly in love with," she rolled her eyes, "I forgot to love my body after the break up and gifted myself a few more of these."
"Then one day, I had to be brought into the ER, because apparently the blade went in too far. They called in social service and encouraged me to go into therapy, that's when I made up my mind to go into medicine."
"Oh, Jackie," Harper gave her an empathetic look. "Fuck did I overshare?" Jackie said nervously.
"Don't worry it's just me here," Harper said, putting on the last bandaid. "And I don't think you'll remember this tomorrow."
"Can I share something else then?"
"Sure, go ahead."
"I can't do this! This chief residency is killing me, I can't say it out loud, I really want this position, but also it's so damn tough!" Jackie said, hiding her head in her arms.
"Listen to me, you can do this, I believe in you," Harper said, taking her hand in hers. "Look at how far you have come. College Jackie is so fucking proud of you and so am I."
Jackie looks up to her eyes and leans into her touch.
"Strong women like us always find a way. So hang in there tight, and don't forget to ask for help when you need it," Harper's gaze shifts to her lips, suddenly aware of how close they were sitting.
Jackie leans in hoping to meet her halfway when the same annoying beeping of a pager makes both of them spring apart.
"Ohh, that's me," Harper said, "looks like someone's brain needs fixing again," she laughs nervously. "I'll see you around, Dr. Varma?"
Jackie nods. Harper crosses the room and was about to walk out of it when, "Dr. Emery," Jackie called, "thank you."
Harper turned, "my pleasure," she replied with a grin and closed the door behind her.
Thank you so much if you have read till here, it means the world to me. Catch you on the next one, till then sending love and hugs your way! ❤️
A/N : Okay okay okay hear me out, even I don't like imaging our badass Jackie crying over and harming herself for a boy. But I like to feel like there was a soft Jackie before this one which was unfortunately traumatized by an evil spawn of a man. Again I am open to criticism but with very little to work with (courtesy PB) I took certain liberties, sorry.
A/N 2 : Just wanted to say that I received a lot of requests from the prompt list and I am so grateful for that. I'll try to post one prompt each week but real life is a bitch and will obviously give me all sorts of problems hence delaying the process so please bear with me. 🥺 That being said if y'all still want to send in requests feel free to do so, but do check out this post to avoid repetion, thank you. 💜

Taylor and Joe in 2019
January 2nd – Joe is seen leaving Taylor’s Tribeca apartment. (x)
January 6th – They both attend the Golden Globes in LA.
“While Taylor presented, Joe watched the teleprompter near him and smiled and [his The Favourite costar] Nicholas Hoult patted him on the back. After Gaga walked on stage, Joe shifted his gaze to the stage near Taylor. She was smiling at him while she walked off the stage. She looked over her shoulder and gave a sassy cute little smile at his table’s direction.”
(via US Weekly)
January 6th – An ET reporter asks Joe if he and Taylor would ever work together. (x)
“It’s not planned at the moment but who knows.”
“Swift joined Alwyn at Fox’s party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The instant she entered the event, the “Gorgeous” singer made a beeline for The Favourite star, putting her head on his shoulder and hand on his chest. Swift didn’t leave Alwyn’s side, posing for photos and chatting with Alwyn’s co-star, Nicholas Hoult, as she kept her hand around Alwyn’s waist. At the end of the evening, the two exited through the back of the venue and away from the crowds.”
(via Entertainment Tonight)
FOX Post Show Celebration was also one of the starriest, with The Favourite cast holding court at their table and having a ball throughout the night. Big winner Olivia Colman was seen taking shots with Joe Alwyn, who was accompanied by girlfriend Taylor Swift the whole night.
The Grammy winner cheered on the cast as they took the shots and was affectionate with her beau throughout the celebration. The ultra-private couple was spotted kissing and cozying up at their table along with Alwyn’s Favourite costar Emma Stone and her Saturday Night Live writer boyfriend Dave McCary.
(via PEOPLE)
CAA party: Alwyn and Swift made a brief appearance around 1 a.m. Security swarmed them,” the source says. “They sat in a couch at a table with their drinks in the back of the party and were talking with several people. They looked at each other a few times and it seemed like Joe was trying to make sure she was OK and gauge when she wanted to leave. They were then escorted out of a private exit together.”
(via E Online)
Video of them arriving at one of the afterparties.
February 8th – Taylor and Joe are spotted leaving The Spaniards Inn in Hampstead, London. (x)
February 9th – They’re seen walking around in Notting Hill.
February 10th – Taylor skips the Grammys and attends several BAFTA afterparties with Joe instead. (x) (x)
Taylor Swift spotted caressing Joe Alwyn after sneaking into BAFTA dinner (x)
Determined to keep a low profile, Taylor swerved the main event at the Royal Albert Hall attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and headed straight to the exclusive dinner at the swanky Grosvenor Hotel on Park Lane.
“Taylor and Joe spent most of the evening in the middle of the room near the head table and based on table 68. They were chatting to colleagues but Taylor didn’t hide her affection towards Joe. She was seen caressing his back as they chatted away to a pal. It was clear they were an item but Taylor appeared conscious not to make a big deal about her appearance - she was just there for a good time rather than working like she would have to at the Grammys. Taylor didn’t leave Joe’s side all evening.”
Keen to keep a memento from the night, Taylor was seen taking home two pottery rabbit table decorations from her table.
Taylor talked to a Grazia reporter about The Favourite and how proud she was of him. (x)
While Grazia chatted to Joe about working with Olivia Colman (‘She was amazing,’ he gushed), Taylor appeared and gave him a congratulatory squeeze. ‘I was watching the show from home,’ she told us. ‘Every time The Favourite won another award, I was just squealing! I couldn’t believe it,’ she continued. ‘It’s so great for him – and it’s his first time coming to the BAFTAs, so it’s exciting. It’s a big deal.’ The singer, who is currently filming Cats, added how ‘proud’ she was of Joe’s success.
They were seen leaving the Vogue / Tiffany & Co afterparty. (video) (x)
February 12th – In an interview with ET, Rebel Wilson is asked whether she’s seen Joe on the set of CATS. (x)

They’re going to have a rerun of the karaoke night and Olivia has even been to Taylor and Joe’s LA home too.”

A picture he took of her is later included in the Lover photoshoot. (x)
March 6th – Taylor drops an ELLE article titled “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30.″ (x)
How to fight fair with the ones you love. Chances are you’re not trying to hurt the person you love and they aren’t trying to hurt you. If you can wind the tension of an argument down to a conversation about where the other person is coming from, there’s a greater chance you can remove the shame of losing a fight for one of you and the ego boost of the one who “won” the fight. I know a couple who, in the thick of a fight, say “Hey, same team.” Find a way to defuse the anger that can spiral out of control and make you lose sight of the good things you two have built. They don’t give out awards for winning the most fights in your relationship. They just give out divorce papers.
Apologizing when you have hurt someone who really matters to you takes nothing away from you. Even if it was unintentional, it’s so easy to just apologize and move on. Try not to say “I’m sorry, but...” and make excuses for yourself. Learn how to make a sincere apology, and you can avoid breaking down the trust in your friendships and relationships.
For too long, the projected opinions of strangers affected how I viewed my relationships. Whether it was the general internet consensus of who would be right for me, or what they thought was “couples goals” based on a picture I posted on Instagram. That stuff isn’t real. For an approval seeker like me, it was an important lesson for me to learn to have my OWN value system of what I actually want.
Playing mind games is for the chase. In a real relationship or friendship, you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t tell the other person how you feel, and what could be done to fix it. No one is a mind reader. If someone really loves you, they want you to verbalize how you feel. This is real life, not chess.
April 17th – Emma Roberts and Garrett Hedlund (Joe’s Billy Lynn co-star) visit Joe and Taylor at their LA place. (x)

What made you decide to go with the name Benjamin Button?
I really liked the movie Benjamin Button.
Okay, that’s a good answer.
And Benjamin Button in the movies is such a good guy, you know? He’s always doing the right thing.
May 2nd – The day after the BBMAs, Taylor leaves Las Vegas for London.
May 4th – Taylor is seen in Notting Hill (again).

They also went to the Grand Palais on the same trip.
Joe posts these photos that Taylor took.
May 25th – In an interview with NRJ Paris, Taylor was asked what she would do if her boyfriend forgot her birthday. (x)

May 26th – Taylor posts photos from her hotel room that Joe most likely took.

The San Vicente Bungalows is an exclusive members-only club and has a "no phones, no pictures, no social media, no talking about other members-policy." So it truly is the perfect place for two private couples to have a double date out.
Other people still saw Swift, Alwyn, Pattinson, and Waterhouse, and one onlooker told Us Weekly that the date happened. It was good fun. "The four were laughing and talking" all night, the onlooker said. "They were at a table, just the four of them. Rob and Taylor were across from each other."

June 29th – kingkeir tweets about Taylor renting a place near London Zoo.
July 2nd – Taylor, Martha, Ashley and the HAIM sisters go on vacation to the St Thomas Virgin Islands. (x)
July 6th – Joe finishes filming A Christmas Carol, the same day Taylor and her friends are papped flying back to the US. They presumably meet up in New York the next day.
July 10th – Taylor performs at the Amazon Prime Day Concert in NYC. Throughout the show–and especially during Delicate–she kept looking and pointing at Joe, who was sitting in the soundbooth. (video)
In Ashley’s IG story, Gigi says “Taylor can’t stop looking at him!” and she replies “here text him!” (video)
July 11th – The day after the Prime Concert, they fly from NYC to London.
July 13th – Taylor and Joe were reportedly seen at Starbucks in Muswell Hill.
July 16th – In a radio interview with KIIS 1065, Katy Perry talks about ending her feud with Taylor. (x)
“I started seeing her around at like the Oscar parties when she was accompanying her boyfriend and I just went up to her and I was like 'hey, you know it's been a long time and I think we've grown up a little bit and I just wanted to say I'm sorry.”
July 18th – Taylor and Joe fly to Manchester, and it’s pretty likely that this photo (posted on July 26) was from this trip, because it was taken at the Peak District and that’s an hour long drive from Manchester.
July 20th – Joe and Taylor arrive in LA.
July 24th – Taylor likes this post.
July 23rd – Taylor films the Lover music video in LA. Joe and Andrea are seen sitting together on set. (x)
July 25th – Riley Knoxx posts a vlog on her YouTube channel about her experience of being in the YNTCD video. She talks about her conversations with Taylor on-set, and how Taylor showed her photos of her with Joe. (x)
“We talked about everything, from whether we want kids or not, [Taylor] showed me videos of her cats and her boyfriend, who she’s rarely seen with, but she’s showing me, you know, the pictures.”
July 30th – In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Rebel Wilson is asked whether she got some dating tips from Taylor while they were filming CATS. (x)
“She’s in a pretty committed relationship now, so it didn’t really come up.”
August 2nd – London secret sessions are held.
Taylor name dropped Joe when explaining Cruel Summer, confirming that it’s about him. (x)
She also talks to theirgetawaycar about spending Christmas in Ireland, which stacks because we know she spent the holidays with Joe and their families at Glin Castle.

Cambridge Open Mic Night | Open Mic Night at Brook Pub
Everyone is welcome to take the stage at an open mic night and share their talents with the audience. The atmosphere is usually relaxed and friendly. Anyone can perform their creativity, be it music, poetry, stand-up comedy, or anything else. Here at the Brook Pub, has come up with a Cambridge Open Mic Night on May 24th 2023, at the Brook Pub, Cambridge.
Any willing performer can take the "open mic" at an event. Aspiring artists, amateurs, and even professionals can use it to test new ideas, hone their skills, or show off their work. By Attracting various artists and listeners, open mic nights are always energetic and exciting.
Pubs, cafes, comedy clubs, and concert halls are common settings for such gatherings. Depending on the event's format and schedule, each artist is given a specific amount of time to show off their skills. It could be as few minutes or as long as many songs or acts.
Performers can enjoy open mic evenings, including increased visibility, audience feedback, connections with other artists, and stage fright reduction. The audience is also entertained, as they can see a wide range of performances in a single evening.
Best Gastro Pub In Cambridge
Open mic evenings as we know them now can be traced back to the folk music movement in the United States during the middle of the twentieth century. It's hard to say when open mic nights first appeared in the UK. They grew in popularity alongside different types of music and performance development.
Open mic evenings increased across the country with the rise of the folk revival and the popularity of new singer-songwriters in the UK in the '60s and '70s. Open mic events have grown in popularity over the years and now feature folk music, poetry, comedy, and other forms of performance art.
These days, open mic evenings can be found in various UK cities and towns. Giving budding and veteran performers a place to perform for an appreciative audience.
Performances at open mic nights can be of any genre, and performers are encouraged to show off their full skills. Performers that might be found during an open mic include:
Music: A singer or musician may perform a song with or without an instrumental accompaniment. Everything from brand-new compositions to renditions of classics is fair game.
Poetry and Spoken Word: Creative writing isn't limited to novels and short stories; poets and spoken word artists can also perform their work through powerful spoken word performances, reading poems aloud, or recounting stories.
Comedy: A common form of entertainment at open mic evenings is stand-up comedy. It is where performers tell jokes and anecdotes to an appreciative audience.
Theatre and Acting: When actors deliver monologues or brief scenes, audiences taste their acting chops.
Dance: Choreographed dance sequences showing contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, or cultural dances can be performed.
Magic and Illusion: By performing mind-boggling tricks and illusions, magicians and illusionists can hold an audience's attention.
Improvisation: It's the spontaneous creation of a comedic scene by an impromptu theatre company.
Storytelling: Participant-generated narratives, anecdotes, and personal experiences can attract and involve an audience.
Performance Art: Artists exploring the boundaries of form through conceptual or experimental can create rich performances.
These are but a few examples among an almost infinite number. Every open mic night is different because it allows people to show their skills and creativity to an appreciative audience.
Karaoke night In Cambridge
Open mic nights and karaoke nights are both forms of entertainment that involve live performances, but they have some key differences:
Format: In an open mic night, performers showcase their talents by singing, playing an instrument, reciting poetry, or performing other forms of live entertainment. They often present original material or their interpretations of existing songs. But, Friday Karaoke nights involve participants singing along to pre-recorded instrumental tracks of popular songs. Karaoke focuses more on singing and performing existing songs than showcasing original material.
Live Accompaniment: At open mic nights, performers often play their instruments or have live musicians accompanying them. They can interpret songs in their style or present original compositions. The music is pre-recorded in karaoke, and participants typically sing without live accompaniment. They follow the established melodies and lyrics of popular songs.
Skill Level: Open mic nights attract many performers, from amateurs to experienced artists. It's an opportunity for individuals to showcase their talent, experiment with new material, and gain stage experience. Karaoke nights are generally more casual and accessible to all skill levels. They provide a fun and relaxed environment for people to sing their favourite songs, regardless of their singing abilities.
Audience Interaction: Open mic nights often have a listening audience that appreciates and supports the performers. People attend to enjoy the variety of live performances and engage with the artists. Karaoke nights usually involve a more interactive and participatory audience. They encourage singing along, cheering for participants, and creating a lively, party-like atmosphere.
Song Selection: At open mic nights, performers can choose any genre or style of music, including original compositions. They can showcase their individuality and creativity in their song choices. Karaoke nights have a catalogue of popular songs available for participants to choose from. The song choices are often well-known hits that appeal to a broad audience.
Both open mic nights and karaoke nights offer opportunities for people to express themselves through music and performance, but they have different focuses and dynamics. Open mic nights focus on showcasing originality and talent, while karaoke nights emphasize the enjoyment of singing popular songs in a social setting.

#1 Mediatization (Loh Joey)
Couldry and Hepp (2017) examines the media’s expanding influence over our lives such that our social world becomes mediatized. The social world is defined as the outcome of the collective experiences and actions of humans in our everyday reality, and it is increasingly interwoven with media. We now experience an increasing mediation of our communication habits, shifting from direct face-to-face communication to mediated communication as part of how we maintain social relations. The more entangled the construction of our social world is in the use of media, the more complex are the interdependence of the media themselves.
This reading resonates deeply within me and it is fascinating just how easily and quickly I am able to come up with examples of how my social world is mediatized. I will use the emotional rollercoaster ride I experienced yesterday night when I found out Teo Heng was shutting down operations in Singapore and then realizing that it was not true. As I was tapping through my Instagram Stories while at work (oops), my secondary school friend posted a screengrab of a Mothership article that reported on the situation. I then swiftly exited Instagram and went to check on the validity of the news article by searching it up on Google. After authenticating it, I then bemoaned to my friends on Telegram that our favorite karaoke joint was closing. We exchanged several crying emojis and stickers and resigned to our fate that we might never get to sing karaoke at our usual place again. Fast forward 40 minutes, my friend sent me a post by the official Teo Heng Instagram account where they clarified that they will not be shutting down their operation as stated in their Mothership interview. The relief and happiness that ensued were overwhelming. As I was at work when it happened, I, of course, also complained to my colleagues about the unfortunate event and we shared a collective sigh of relief when we know it was not actually happening. From this example, it is evident that my social world is intricately woven with my use of media. In the short span of time, I accessed 4 different media platforms for various purposes. Media has completely altered how me and my friends interact offline and online. Media has enabled us to sustain our friendship beyond our offline meetups through tools like social media platforms and messaging applications to update each other in real-time virtually. The various media co-exist and co-rely on each other in the construction of my social world.

That same year, the nation had received full independence from France. As the country entered a new post-colonial era, Sory photographed the vibrant youth culture that emerged. Spanning 20-some years, his collection of portraits features lovers kissing, smiling friends with a boombox, and style so fly it could belong in a high-fashion magazine from any era. 'Nosferatu' Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror Released in 1922, Nosferatu is just a few years shy of its 100th anniversary, and somehow still manages to be creepy. Part of that effect may come from its on-location sets and beautifully framed shots, and Max Schreck’s performance as the titular monster certainly factors into its legacy. Yet another spooky aspect is the film’s soundtrack, which has been adapted and reimagined over the years. This Halloween, guests can head to the Music Box Theatre for a screening set to a live soundtrack from the Curse of the Vampire Orchestra, by Minneapolis composer Philip Shorey. The score features a local symphony and choral musicians mixed with modern electronica and industrial percussion. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18-19; 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19. Free; RSVP required. MN Toy Posse Image courtesy event organizers MN Toy Posse Halloween Bash 3 What happens when you combine 70 toy sellers from all over the Midwest, hundreds of toy fans of all ages, and thousands of rare and unique toys and collectables? You get one giant posse. This weekend, the Minnesota Toy Posse will host its third-annual Halloween Bash toy swap. Posse founder Mark Seekamp started the group a little over three years ago on Facebook as a way to help connect people looking to buy, sell, or trade their favorite toys. He hadn’t planned on just how many people would want to join his gang. “We have more than 2,200 members, and it’s a really active group,” he says. And it’s not just about toys, either. “We’ve become friends and talk about our lives. People will post pictures when they have a baby, or we’ll just use it to meet up and go see a movie. It’s about creating relationships beyond just looking for toys.” For Seekamp, the best part of the day is how toys can bring people together. “The coolest part is being able to see someone who is going to be really excited about a toy that you have that you’re ready to part with.” 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 20.
