Ichi (20): Catfolk/Rogue/(Secret) Assassin. The only survivor of his village that was murdered due to being Catfolk. Isn’t an outcast to the Akatsuka village, but treats himself like he is one due to fear of being murdered.

Todo (18): Witch. Potion/Charm salesmen. On the run from his old town (he won’t say where) due to trying to use a love potion on someone. Came to Akatsuka to avoid being burned at the stake. 

Jyushi (19): Human(?)/Freelance Fighter. Just showed up inside their home one day, but won’t talk about his past for some reason. The one to find Osomatsu while on a job.

Oso(Toddler): Dragon. Was found by Jyushi after his parents were (most likely) slayed by some Knights. Spoiled by his older “brothers.”

GENERAL

They’re all around 5 feet 7 inches tall, or about 170 centimeters. One of them might be a few centimeters shorter, one might be a few taller, but for the most part they stand around the same height. It’s probably considered average, they aren’t very short and they aren’t exceptionally tall.

They all tend to carry ‘extra’ weight in the same way ― around their middles, in their stomachs. Even if the Matsu in question isn’t actually overweight as according to a weight chart, they all have a bit of a tummy. Some more than others, it’s just kind of the way they’re built.

All things considered, whether any of them are a little thin or a little chubby, their body types are fairly healthy-looking. None of them are so skinny or big that it would cause serious problems for them.

💚 CHOROMATSU 💚

Usually hovers around the same weight, he’s practically right there in the middle of what’s ‘ideal’ for a man his height and age. He’s been that way since he was like 18, with his weight not changing much one way or the other. Although he eats a bit less than the rest of his brothers, he also doesn’t work out or anything, so it stays pretty consistent.

He does get slightly chubby, though. It doesn’t really make him technically overweight, just overweight compared to what he’s used to, like 10 or so kg. above his usual weight. He gets some anxiety about it sometimes, thinking it makes him unattractive; often that settles down pretty quickly after reassurances from his brothers and maybe S/O.

💜 ICHIMATSU 💜

For sure, he’s on the heavier side. In his case it’s probably due to a little overeating, especially choosing snacks like junk food, but it’s not to a huge degree. He’s just kinda pudgy. He didn’t used to be; he was slimmer in high school, and started putting on some weight in the years after graduation. It doesn’t really bother him, though, as long as he’s still healthy.

Among his brothers, he’s probably got wider hips and thicker thighs than the rest of them. He’s still got somewhat of a belly, it’s just that some of the extra weight he’s got has settled in his hips and thighs. Again, he doesn’t really mind it that much unless someone specifically targets it to make fun of him. At that point, he gets a bit insecure over it.

💛 JYUSHIMATSU 💛

There’s not much way around it, this man is fucking shredded. Whether it’s the persistence with which he practices baseball, whether it’s his high energy burning calories in general, whether it’s a combination of everything or the simple fact that he’s Jyushimatsu, he’s unique in that respect. He’s the only one of the sextuplets who’s got a significant amount of muscle, although he hides it well under his hoodie and long sleeves.

That said, he actually still does have a bit of a tummy over his abs. It’s like a thin layer of fat, noticeable if you’re looking for it, that sticks out slightly. It’s pretty rare that he gets any anxiety at all over it, because, well, it’s just part of what makes him Jyushimatsu! He knows he’d still be himself even if he gains a little weight, even if he’s not quite as muscular. So gaining a little doesn’t really get him down much, unless, like Ichimatsu, someone decides to make fun of him for it.

💙 KARAMATSU 💙

He’s more than a little conscientious about his looks, clearly, so he actually does his best to stay within a certain weight. It still makes him a bit on the heavier side, though within the range for the ideal weight for someone his age and height. He’s just slightly toward the higher end of that spectrum; he simply happens to think he looks best like this. Any skinnier and he might look unhealthy, in his opinion. So he’s a little bit plump, except looking the way he does, most people would choose the phrase ‘filled out’ instead.

… Do he got the booty?? He dooooooo! Maybe it’s because he often wears things like short shorts and leggings which show it off, but the most noticeable thing about the way he carries weight is his backside. As compared to his brothers (except for maybe Ichimatsu), his butt is probably the thickest part of him. Although he gets a little embarrassed about it on occasion, he actually thinks it’s one of his best physical features.

❤️ OSOMATSU ❤️

Honestly, he’s almost definitely the chubbiest out of all the sextuplets. If he’s not technically overweight by a weight chart ― which he well might be ― then he’s very close at the heavier end of that scale. Exercise would help a little, but it’s probably genetics and overeating/snacking too much more than it is being sedentary. Even when he does exercise to shed a few kg., he doesn’t change his eating habits. Undoubtedly he’ll be fluffy forever, which is just fine by him.

Despite only being in his 20s, he’s such a drinker that he’s got a beer belly starting. It’s easily noticeable if he has his shirt off, or if he’s wearing tight-fitting clothes. Not that he really cares… but… he’s more sensitive about that in particular than being overweight in general. Of course, not enough to make him stop drinking. He just kinda likes himself the way he is; physically, at least. If other people don’t, well, they’re not him, so they don’t have to.

💖 TOTTY 💖

He’s absolutely more slender than his brothers. Partly due to the fact that he’s the youngest and has always been slightly smaller in general, and partly because he does work out some. Not overly so, he only has a bit of muscle on him… and, surprise of surprises, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a visible area of pudge around his stomach. As much as he likes to look his best and he’s got perfectionist tendencies, he actually doesn’t mind being sort of soft around the middle. It just makes him that much cuter!

Also, he’s a bit shorter in general as well. It’s gotten less noticeable since the last year of high school (and even before that) so that his clothes aren’t too long on him anymore, but he actually still stands a few centimeters shorter than his brothers. The good part is that it comes in handy when he runs to them and wants to be comforted… and the bad part comes when they’re all next to each other and he’s the shortest because it’s prime material for other people to tease him about being the baby. That upsets him more than anything, because the only people that shit doesn’t hurt coming from are his big brothers.

Surprise! It took...very long enough but I’ve finally finished sorting out the survey results for everyone’s reading pleasures. It’s extremely long so, i’ll just put everything under the cut. 

With that in mind, here are some shortcuts if you’re looking for something in the survey and don’t want to read all of it to get what you need. (however, while I did add some shortcuts in this post, the link above is more of a master list.)

Of course, first things first: 

Out of 425 responses: 67.5% identify as a female, 20.9% identify as other while 11.5% identify as male.

For the age question, out of 425 responses: 58.1% are in the 18 - 25 range, 27.5% are in the 13 - 17 range, 12.7% are in the 25 - 35 range, 1.2% are in the under 13 range and 0.5% are in the 35+ range. 

Country question wise, out of 425 responses: 62.8% live in North America, 18.4% live in Europe, 8% live in Asia, 5.4% live in South America, 2.8% live in Australia while 0.5% live in New Zealand and Central America. Everything else is my mistake with the locations and I apologize for that, so please bully me if you need to hhh

To start off questions relating with the characters:  

This was....all over the place, more so for the reasons as to why they chose [matsu] really. But luckily, I was able to find the most common reasons that I saw for all of them and oooh boy is this going to be long.

[So! Here’s a short TL;TR on the results in terms of percentage out of 425 who voted a Matsu as their fave for people who would rather not spend their time reading:

Karamatsu - 27.3% Ichimatsu - 23.5% Osomatsu - 15.8% Jyushimatsu - 13.9% Choromatsu - 11.1% Todomatsu - 8.5%. CTRL + F to "Now onto the favorite side characters” to continue.]

Osomatsu - out of 425 responses only 15.8% voted for Osomatsu as their favorite matsu, while kind of not unexpected the common reasons for choosing him include: His cuteness due to his laugh and/or smile,  his laid-back personality, and from his relationship with brothers. For some people however, they relate to him in a way through his struggles and consider to be one of the most complex out of the six. Of course, there are also a few who relate to him from being eldest siblings themselves. Overall, the fact that Osomatsu was the third most voted for was kind of shocking? I was expecting Jyushi would take this place, if i'm honest haha. But nevertheless, thanksie to all the Osomatsu fans who shared their reasons for admiring  the red one no matter how short or how long they were.

Karamatsu - out of 425 responses only 27.3% voted for Karamatsu as their favorite matsu, while not surprising at all the common reasons for choosing him include: How loving and adorable he is, his flamboyant (or should I say, painful?) personality, and how much he's a big ol' dork to them. Like Osomatsu's result, some added that Karamatsu reminds them of themselves due to how much they relate to him (a lot didn't mention as to why, but I assume from being ignored?? since it was mentioned quite a lot.). Overall Karamatsu was the first most picked matsu; while not shocking to some i'm sure, Kara's had the most common listed reason(s) as to why they personally chose him. Thanksie to all the Karamatsu fans who picked and stated their reasons for loving him~ And here's a small mention to the ones who mentioned Karamatsu's eyebrows as a reason on why they love him, and that "He needs more love".

Choromatsu - out of 425 responses only 11.1% voted for Choromatsu as their favorite matsu, despite being one of the matsus who was chosen the least; the common reasons for choosing him include: His froggy face, and smile are precious,his seiyuu(Hiroshi Kamiya)'s voice, his personality and how much he's a tsukkomi(straight man). Overall with Choromatsu being the second least picked matsu, it was nice to see everyone's small but passionate reasons for choosing the green one. And while not being a common reason for favoring him, a few mentioned that they can relate to Choromatsu's frustration with his brothers. He's also the only matsu out of the six who I've seen called handsome in the results, so that's nice. Either way, thanksie to all the Choromatsu fans who picked him! Keep appreciating on him.

Ichimatsu - out of 425 responses only 23.5% voted for Ichimatsu as their favorite matsu, while also not surprising at all the common reasons for choosing him include: His love for cats, and his softness/cuteness, him being relatable (due to thinking themselves as garbage, shyness and/or social awkwardness are reasons I could find.), his fragile heart, his personality, and how much he cares about his brothers. Overall, despite being the second most picked matsu....there were kiiiind of very few reasons I could find other than "relatable" shockingly enough haha ;; Not a problem though, since I don't mind. Thanksie to all the Ichimatsu fans who chose him~ Keep loving him, but pls love yourselves as well.

Jyushimatsu - out of 425 responses only 13.9% voted for Jyushimatsu as their favorite matsu, again kind of unexpected to me for being so low, the common reasons for choosing him include: His cheerfulness, silliness, and sweetness, his smile, and how much he's a "ray of sunshine"/"ball of sunshine"/"cinnamon roll". Overall, despite being first in terms of being the least chosen-- It's clear that Jyushimatsu is people's favorite for various reasons, he's a character that makes them smile through his actions whenever they're upset and that's truly what matters. Thanksieee to all the Jyushimatsu fans who supported their yellow boy by picking him! Here's to hoping your feelings towards him stay true in the future!

Todomatsu - out of 425 responses only 8.5% voted for Todomatsu as their favorite matsu, now sadly last and especially in terms of being least, the common reasons for choosing him include: Due to being both cute and sly (or in general: his personality), how despite acting like he hates his brothers and wants nothing to do with them: how he loves them and relies on them, him being relatable (from being the youngest in their family themselves, liking cute things, and to liking pink are reasons I could find.), and how he tries his hardest to be independent. Lastly, while having the least amount of people who favor him, Todomatsu's fans had some of the longer responses compared to the others-- to which I am shocked, but thankful for. Thanksieee to all the Todomatsu fans who picked their boy, despite knowing even before I published the survey that he'd be the least picked in terms of being a favorite; I'm still glad that I was able to see everyone's reasons for choosing him, keep loving and supporting your somewhat underrated boy.

And thus, this concludes the favorite Matsu portion of the survey. While not completely shocking at all (in my opinion that I probably shouldn't state), it was interesting to see everyone's reasons for liking the matsus of their choice! I do hope this doesn't end up putting any bad blood between anyone because i'd feel bad haha ;;;;;

Now onto the favorite side characters: 

Since I....unfortunately forgot to include a similar sheet for why everyone chose a certain side character in particular, this was much faster to get through compared to the Matsu question.

Out of 425 responses, 19.3% voted for Chibita as their favorite side character. 16.2% voted for Homura. 15.1% voted for Totoko, 11.5% voted “No favorite/neutral on them all”, 7.8% voted for Iyami, 6.1% picked Hashimoto Nyaa, 5.6% chose Matsuyo, 4.7% selected Atsushi, 4% picked Kinko, 2.4% voted Hatabou, 1.4% chose Dayon, 1.2% selected Akumatsu, 0.9% chose Hijirisawa (and his brothers), 0.7% equally chose Eitarou, Kamimatsu, and Chibita’s Flower Fairy, 0.5% chose Matsuzo, Dekapan and the Dayon Tribe Girl while the sole 0.2% that was a struggle to find chose Sanematsu.

There could’ve been more side characters that I could’ve added, but alas... it would’ve made this much more longer than it should’ve. We’re getting into the negative stuff (for the Matsus, and for the side characters) and since this is once again, going to be long so  CTRL + F to "Now as for the fandom related question(s)” to continue.

With the TL;DR out of the way: 

With the amount of people who chose N/A in mind....if i’m honest I had to grasp as straws for at least one or two of the Matsus in particular since there weren’t that many people who gave a reason as to why they chose their least favorite Matsu? Not that I blame anyone, but it might somewhat be obvious on who they are.

N/A - out of 425 responses, 65.6% chose no one as their least favorite matsu.

Osomatsu - out of 425 responses, 3.1% picked Osomatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: S2E7(Oso&Todo's skit) because of what happened with Todomatsu, how he acts, he's boring compared to the others, and 'he's annoying'. Despite this, some of the people who selected Osomatsu actually don't hate him, but he's just at the bottom for them for reasons a few don't know.

Karamatsu - out of 425 responses, 3.8% picked Karamatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: How he's portrayed by the fandom, his personality, and the fact that he has the least amount of development. Like Osomatsu, some people don't actually dislike him. The most common reason as to why he was chosen as the 3.8%'s least favorite matsu is because, again: Due to the fandom and his characterization, as it gets overwhelming for them at times. Of course, there are people who dislike him for personal reasons as well.

Choromatsu - out of 425 responses, 7.1% picked Choromatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: How hypocritical he is (to the point it gets annoying to them), not as humorous or appealing as the others, boring, he reminds them of people they know/knew, and 'freak/creepy'. A small few of the people who picked Choromatsu don't consider him as their least favorite, they just find him annoying and/or frustrating at times. But otherwise, the common reason people chose him as their least favorite is mainly due to how hypocritical he is.

Ichimatsu - out of 425 responses, 5.2% picked Ichimatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: His treatment towards Karamatsu, his personality, boring and how negative he is. Some mentioned that they don't dislike Ichimatsu, but because of how he was to Karamatsu in S1 is what makes him their least favorite. A few also mentioned that they just didn't like his personality and the fact that he's popular in the fandom because of it.

Jyushimatsu - out of 425 responses, 2.4% picked Jyushimatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: Not being interested in him, isn't as funny as the others, and because he doesn't either suit their taste in characters, or he isn't relatable to them. With Jyushimatsu being having the least amount of people who had him as people's least favorites-- There weren't that many that people listed (other than the ones I mentioned.), however: one person did have a negative experience with a Jyushi fan, which adds onto the reason they themselves didn't like him.

Todomatsu - out of 425 responses, 12.9% picked Todomatsu as their least favorite matsu. Reasons include: He's selfish, he's a snake, he's "a demon", his treatment towards his brothers, he's least the interesting/he's too normal, and his personality. Unlike the others, there was...a lot more reasons as to why he's people's least favorite. Some people don't dislike him as a character, but others somewhat actually do from the looks of it. One person stated that while the others are too cartoony, Todomatsu is "just a guy" that you'd find in real life and he's too realistic to a fault.

i would like to see some discussion/opinions on what people think about the results for the matsus in particular, but if anyone starts anything ill cry and be forced to kill off the results of this and the side character part of the survey

Carrying on to the least favorite side characters portion of this survey: 

While there was still a majority who doesn’t dislike any of the side characters, a pretty decent amount still dislike at least Dayon someone p-pfft.

“I don’t dislike anyone/I’m neutral on them all.” - Out of 425 responses, 36.7% chose that they don’t dislike any of the side characters and/or they have no opinion on them.

Dayon - Out of 425 responses, 19.1% selected Dayon as their least favorite side character for reasons such as: He’s annoying, ugly, gross, unsettling, the gags he’s used for (As either they’re disgusting, or boring), “He doesn’t contribute much”, unfunny, and from being tired of hearing “DAYOOOON”. Overall, while I didn’t count it-- I do think it’s fair for me to say that some also added that his longer skits with Dekapan are added to the list as to why they dislike him. 

Totoko - Out of 425 responses, 9.9% chose Totoko as their least favorite side character for reasons including: How she treats the Sextuplets, she’s annoying, selfish, narcissistic, and her personality in general. Ironically there were a lot less reasons for choosing Totoko despite how many people choose her, but like with Osomatsu: Some people who choose her don’t actually dislike Totoko, but rather they feel like she isn’t fleshed out more as a character, which ruins her for them.

Iyami - Out of 425 responses, 6.4% picked Iyami as their least favorite side character. Their reasons include: “He’s disgusting”, he isn’t interesting as a character, he’s an asshole, and his gags are repetitive and/or annoying. Some people added that he works better when a skit isn’t only focusing on him, with “Iyami, alone in the wind” being excluded. One mentioned that he was better in -kun. 

Dekapan - Out of 425 responses, 5.2% chose Dekapan as their least favorite side character for reasons such as: Annoying, his skits with Dayon, repetitive, boring, “Creepy old man”, uncomfortable to watch, and doesn’t stand out. Some people actually don’t dislike Dekapan but, they have the same issues with Dayon for him. 

Sanematsu - Out of 425 responses, 4.9% selected Sanematsu as their least favorite side character for reasons that include: He’s scary, unsettling, “He’s pointless”, and boring. Most people also added that with they feel weird and/or uncomfortable with Sanematsu as a character or his skits.

Atsushi - Out of 425 responses, 3.3% picked Atsushi as their least favorite side character. Their reasons include: “He was an extra/one-off insignificant side character that people got too obsessed with. (For shipping reasons)”, fanon, and he’s not interesting. Everything else to avoid repeating myself was mostly about how the “3 seconds/1 minute” worth of screen time he got S1 wise and yet he has more merch than other side characters.

Shounosuke Hijirisawa (And his brothers) - Out of 425 responses, 2.6% chose Hijirisawa as their least favorite side character for reasons such as: He’s irrelevant and/or not interesting, unfunny, and his design. Most people who chose him just find him pointless, basically.

Other - Out of 425 responses, 2.4% mostly mentioned that Karamatsu’s Flower Fairy was their least favorite side character. I’d think it’s easy to tell why, but the reasons include: “She’s abu$ive to Karamatsu”, and “She was purposely made without any redeeming qualities”. They were...mostly about how she treats Karamatsu, h-haha...

Kamimatsu - Out of 425 responses, 2.1% picked Kamimatsu as their least favorite side character. Their reasons include: “He feels out of place”, he’s too perfect which makes him boring, annoying, “His process of being perfect was king of a downer for me.”, and bland. This is a bit of an unrelated note but, I accidentally skipped over his while I was editing, whoops...

Hatabou - Out of 425 responses, 1.9% selected Hatabou as their least favorite character with answers including: “I don’t have a reason to care for him”, fear, he’s a bit creepy, and annoying. 

Chibita's Flower Fairy - Out of 425 responses, 1.2% chose Chibita’s Flower Fairy as their least favorite side characters for reasons that include: “Her episode was boring”, the manic pixie trope, and annoying (but they added they don’t have a reason for disliking her.). 

Akumatsu - Out of 425 responses, 0.9% picked Akumatsu as their least favorite side character for reasons such as: “He’s just there.”. One person said that they didn’t understand his appeal since he’s just the manifestation of the Matsu’s negativity while another said that the fandom content is fine while in the show he’s just “eh”.

Kinko, Dayon Tribe Girl, Hashimoto Nyaa, and Chibita - Out of 425 responses, 0.7% equally have Kinko, the Dayon Tribe Girl, Nyaa chan, and Chibita as their least favorite character. 

Reasons for Kinko include: Not caring for her episode and/or how Totoko was portrayed in it, “Useless and bad design.”, and she wasn’t that memorable.

Reasons for Chibita include: “Looks like a weird baby”, he isn’t that interesting as his character just feels like “it’s just about Oden and saying idjit”, and he seems  inconsistent as a character. One person also noted that it feels it doesn’t help when the fandom only uses him for shipping.

Reasons for the Dayon Tribe Girl include: “She’s forgettable”, she didn’t leave a lasting impact on her episode and rather than disliking her- they feel indifferent towards her, and the transformation the eldest trio went through “ creeps them out”.

And finally, reasons for Hashimoto Nyaa include: “She’s useless”, annoying, and the amount of times she’s used for Choromatsu in Heso/Tabi.

Lastly, Eitarou - Out of 425 responses, only 0.5% chose Eitarou as their least favorite side character with the two reasons include: “He’s annoying” and one feeling creeped out by “how far he goes to act like Jyushimatsu.”

Overall, working and reading through the distaste for the side characters was interesting! Painfully long though. almost makes me glad i forgot about the opposite version of this, whew.... maybe next time.

As for the fandom related question(s): 

I to say the least screwed up in this part of the survey in the early days hence the “422″ instead of “425″ rip

This might be surprising to some, while not to others! But out of 422 of the people who responded, 68% are Fanartists, 58.2% are casual fans, 28.7% are writers, 26.3% are meme(ists), 3.3% are zine hosts, 1.7% are MMDers, and 1.1% are cosplayers. 

Some other results include (that I actually had to do math with):  Out of 422 of the people who responded, 3.5% are owners/mods of ____ blog, 1.1% are self insert fans/self-shippers, 0.9% are mods/owners of _____ server, another 0.9% are role players, and lastly,0.4% are video creators/editors.

Now, this section is for Blmatsu so......I highly suggest people who don’t like it to  CTRL + F to "Regardless, onto the favorite duos”  to carry on, however if you don’t want to see the duos either then CTRL + F to “It’s time for the non BL shipping results!”.  

Otherwise for everyone who doesn’t mind BL.

This section amuses me more than it should’ve, back when I started this survey I posted it on Tumblr first since I knew it’d somewhat spread at least by a little. The result when it started to spread was this: 

There were a lot more people against it, and a lot more people who were neutral on it than who shipped it. However, when I posted it on Twitter next (without thinking it’d actually spread, keep in mind.), there were a lot more “Ship it”s to the point it was higher than “Against it” or tied with it multiple times. 

With that in mind, the end result turned out to be a tie between “Ship it” and “Against it”:

Which, I found both interesting and fair. The result could’ve easily changed if the last few people who took this survey didn’t end up being neutral on it, but alas. BL ships wise:

Multi-shipper - Out of 150 responses, multi-shipper was selected by 42%....mostly because people wanted to chose three BL ships at best rather than one. (Don’t really blame anyone if i’m honest, yeah. Maybe I should’ve done that instead.)

KaraIchi/Ichikara - Out of 150 responses, 16% chose it as their favorite BL ship. Not bad!  (If I count someone mentioning it in the non BL ship selection, it would be 16.7%.)

OsoChoro/ChoroOso - 11.3% chose it as their favorite ship out of 150. (12% since someone listed it in the other section)

Osokara/KaraOso - 10.7% chose it out as their favorite ship out of 150. (it’s higher than I honestly expected it to be, huh. someone listed it outside of this as well so fhas. 11.3% )

IchiJyushi/JyushiIchi - 7.3% selected it as their favorite ship out of 150. (lower than I expected it to be considering how big it was in 2016, rip. 8% since someone mentioned it outside of here.)

OsoIchi/IchiOso - 4.7% picked it as their favorite ship out of 150. (5.3% as well)

KaraChoro/ChoroKara - 4% voted for it as their favorite ship out of 150 (4.7%, like osoichi’s original number if you want to count it.)

KaraTodo/TodoKara - 2% chose it as their favorite ship out of 150. (2.7%, small but a slight improvement)

ChoroIchi/IchiChoro - 0.7% selected it as their favorite ship out of 150. (1.3%, another small improvement.)

The duos are a lot more diverse, not that I mind of course! Regardless, I’m grateful to this for reminding me of the other duo names that the jp/en fandom use since I can’t remember most of them for the life of me.

Suujimatsu (Ichi & Jyushi) - Out of 425 responses, 29.9% chose Suuji as their favorite duo. 

Choukeimatsu (Oso & Kara) - Out of 425 responses, 15.5% voted Choukei as their favorite.

Sokudomatsu (Oso & Choro) - Out of 425 responses, 9.6% picked Sokudo as their favorite.

Kinnikumatsu (Kara & Jyushi) - Out of 425, 6.8% selected Kinniku as their favorite.

Parkamatsu (Oso & Ichi) - Out of 425, 6.6% chose Parka as their favorite.

Iromatsu (Kara & Ichi) - Out of 425, 5.6% picked Iro as their favorite.

Suirikumatsu (Kara & Choro) - Out of 425, 4.9% voted for Suiriku as their favorite.

I...myself didn’t expect Cyber to the lowest one here, I expected Baka would so i’m surprised. I also didn’t think Choukei would be so high but?? I don’t mind. 

My thoughts aside, it’s time for the non-BL shipping results!:

And I must say, this was painful. Rather than only adding the percentages since I don’t trust my math, i’m going to instead list how many times a ship was mentioned. Highest to lowest, of course.

The highest ship to be listed was Jyushimura 158 times out of 425. (or, 37.2%)

Second highest is AtsuTodo to be mentioned 78 times out of 425. (18.3%)

N/A however, was commented 66 times out of 425. (15.5%)

Despite how close OsoToto was to either being lower than Karabita or even tied with it, it was mentioned 62 times out of 425.  (14.6%)

As such, Karabita was commented 60 times out of 425.  (14.1%)

TotoNyaa is the last ship to be in the 20+ range with it being named 43 times out of 425. (10.1%)

Yet IchiOT3 (ichimatsu x christmas couple, I assume.) was super close with it being stated 19 out of 425. (4.5%)

I also know that I...put of “no movie characters” but, people’s love for YanaIchi  was mentioned 11 times out of 425 = (2.6%)

AtsuOso, ChoroNyaa, and TotoKinko - Were all mentioned 7 times out of 425. (1.6%)

While IchiToto, AtsuKara, and IchiKinko were said 6 times out of 425. (1.4%)

ChoroDayo however, is the only ship to be listed 5 times out of 425. (1.2%)

Getting into the “Said four times” category, TouOso, IchiHomu, Dekadayon, AtsuIchi, and KaraToto were all said 4 times out of 425. (0.9%)

Moving closer towards the third to last places, ChibiFlower, HataBita, IchiNyaa, ChoroToto, TodoToto, AtsuJyushi, AtsuChoro, OsoBita, and KaraKinko was mentioned 3 times out of 425. (0.7%)

Almost last but not yet least, JyushiToto, OsoKinko, ChoroKinko, JyushiKinko, TodoKinko, FutsuumaruTodo (?), and KaraBiker (?? he's from s2ep23) got listed 2 times out of 425. (0.5%)

And finally, OsoIya, OsoNyaa, ChoroOT3 (?), OsokoKarako, HappiChoro, TotoMura, FightingOso, YanaAtsu, ChoroTodoko, JyushiDayon, IchiTodoko, IchikoChoroko, FightingChoro, OsoIchiko, OsoMura, “All Girlymatsu ships”, “Any Chibita ship”, “Matsu/self”, “Todo/self”, and “Choro/self” were all mentioned once out of 425. (0.2%)

With some ships I didn’t expect them to be listed more than once if i’m honest, but i’m glad that wasn’t the case at all for the ones that I had in mind. This was honestly painful overall to manually count and keep track of though.

The next set(s) of data is revolving around the show, so with that in mind: 

To probably at least some people’s surprise, 28.2% out of 425 got into the series around S1′s first cour, while 27.1% got into it during S1′s second cour. 

15.5% got into it during the first hiatus, 6.6% came into it around S2′s second cour, another 6.6% for the wait for the movie, 6.4% for the second hiatus.

 3.5% for both after S2′s announcement and during S2′s first cour, and lastly 2.6% came around during the wait for the movie subs. (so... late March of this year - present.) Not bad!

I’m shocked that people from S1′s first cour days are still around to take this survey (though, I can say this for myself as well), but i’m more surprised there’s a lot more people who came in through S2′s second cour rather than it’s first? It’s interesting to see.

Moving on: 

Majority of the people who responded heard about Ososan through social media (which is 69.4% since it got cut off.), with “Through a friend” being close.

“From watching seasonal anime” is 9.6% while “Watched or read Osomatsu kun” is 2.6%. 

“From a reviewer watching it at the time” is at 2.1%, while “Pixiv”, is 0.5%. Everything else is at 0.2%. There are a few people who got into it from their family members, and some through looking up fanart (or doujins), covers or even music videos/AMVS. 

me personally I got into it from seasonal anime, I still remember all the art that dominated the rankings on pixiv while it was still new and all the “Six same faces” art in people’s styles. good ol’ days.

One of the shortest and quickest ones to finish, so carrying on: 

The highest game Ososan game that people are playing or have played is to no one’s surprise, Hesokuri Wars at 79.3% with the second highest being Tabimatsu at 28.2%.

None is at 20%.

Original series wise: 

63.3% of the people who took this out of 425 have watched OsoKun, with only 31.1% who haven’t! It doesn’t interest 5.6% but, that’s perfectly fair haha.

Next, we have ourselves the physically owned related content question: 

70.1% out of 425 own merch, while 29.6% don’t own anything in terms of matsu content.

10.4% own the official anthologies, 8.5% own the manga, 4.5% have the soundtrack CDS, 3.8% for novels, 3.5% for the drama CDS, and lastly... only 2.6% of the people who took this survey have the DVDs.

Can’t be helped seeing the DVDs so low, really. Hopefully the number somewhat increases once Viz Media finishes the dub!

Speaking of Viz Media and their dub though: 

A lot more people than I truly expected there to be are looking forward to it! With it being at 64.2%, while “Don’t care” being at 23.1%! There’s a lot less “No”s compared to “Don’t care”s, not bad! 

The reasons people mostly listed when selecting either “I don’t care” or “No” are: “I don’t care for dubs”, “I prefer the JP audio/actors.”, “I don’t think the jokes will be translated well.”, and “Viz is taking too long to release the dub.”  

Of course, a few did mention things in regards to the English VA(s) that I won’t be saying here but! It’s all fair.

Turning away from Viz Media, we’re now on the stances for season 2 👏:

The majority of the fandom (who took the survey) enjoyed Season 2, with it being at 73.2%. Only 13.9% had mixed opinions on it, while 10.4% wasn’t able to completely finish it. 

1.4% didn’t enjoy it, while 1.2% had no opinion on it. I didn’t expect “I had mixed opinions on it” to somewhat have a tie with “I enjoyed it” by any means, but I am surprised it was that low.

Now then, “Why do you have mixed feelings on it or why didn’t you enjoy it?”. Some gave slightly long answers, while others gave short and simple answers. All of the (summarized) answers are: “Not as funny as S1″, “Hit or miss skits”, “The jokes were too predictable”, “Too many gross-out jokes”, “It felt lazy and it seemed like they were running out of ideas”, and “It tried too hard to appease to fans.” 

With those in mind, the longer answers that provided more insight on where the mixed feelings came from would mention how the writing felt different and that the characterization felt off. There wasn’t enough “random” skits, some of the more serious skits felt forced, and “Todomatsu felt like a different characters at times in S2.”. Someone did mention and add to their opinion on “the writers were appeasing to the fans” with how Karamatsu is treated in S2 vs how he was in S1.

For the 10.4% who pressed “I didn’t completely finish it.”: 

Busyness was at 46.7%, lack of motivation was at 28.9% and “Other things turned me away from Season 2″ is at 6.7%. Everything else is at the sole 2.2%.

Turning away from the negative(ish) opinions on Season 2, we’re stepping into the “Why did you enjoy Season 2?” thoughts and oooh boy is this going to be long for me. 

t-thanks for the (kind of) long answers though!: 

The common answers for this are as followed: “There was more character development this season compared to the first one”/”The characters felt fleshed out more” (For either the Matsus themselves, or side characters.), “The duo interactions were 👌👌”/”I loved the amount of duo interactions!”, “It felt wholesome”, “Season 1 was good, but Season 2 had better and/or more enjoyable episodes since it had a lot more going for it.”, “I wanted more Ososan content, so I enjoyed it”, “The comedy felt better”, “The animation and writing improved”, “I’m easy to please”, and overall just “It was enjoyable to watch.”

Episodes and/or skits like “Punishment”/”Inn”, “Overseas Vacation”, “Iyami alone in the wind”, “Tidbits Collection 2″, “Campaign starting now”,  and “Osomatsu and Todomatsu” were mentioned as reasons as to why they enjoyed S2 and/or remember it so fondly. A few also mentioned that they felt like S2′s ending felt more like a satisfying conclusion compared to S1′s. 

I’m glad even if people didn’t really enjoy S2, they still had some positive things to say about it! Both sides for this part of the survey gave me a bit more insight on why people were disappointed with the season vs why they weren’t disappointed with it! I’m pleased with the answers I received~

Pushing that out of the way, we’re back to the fandom related questions and on our way to the final parts of the survey: 

Now, regardless on how long you’ve been inside of the fandom-- I think it’ll be pretty easy to tell where this is going with how how people feel towards and/or inside of the fandom. You’re either a BL shipper, an anti/non bl shipper who wants nothing to do with BL shippers, or someone who’s honestly neutral. Can’t be all of them, and you can’t please everyone.

Having that in mind (since this is long), the opinions are...everywhere.

There are people who feel comfortable participating with fellow fans as they feel like everyone’s friendly and enjoy looking at all the fan work that is released, from AUs, fics, art, or even translations. They love the fandom and feel as if it could be worse, but it isn’t (or wasn’t, heh.). “It’s a better experience if you know what and who to avoid in the fandom” I saw a few mention, to me-- It looked like the positives in the fandom overtook the negative ones for everyone who said that they loved participating with the fandom? It was rather interesting to notice, and while I’m unable to really show everyone’s exact word for word sentences, I hope this provided a little bit of info for those who were curious.

There are also people who have mixed opinions on the fandom, either from the BL side, the “against BL side” or both. It’s a fandom, so it has it’s “goods and bads” of course and as such-- People who have mixed feelings on it are due to either all the drama/ship wars, or from how the fandom treats certain characters over the other. Most if not all would mention that they don’t actively participate with other fans (that aren’t their friends) because of it. One mentioned that "The amount of mischaracterization for certain characters is irritating (Karamatsu/Ichimatsu) as well as the amount of hatred for certain characters (Choro + Todo) is frustrating.". Of course with that in mind, they were also talked about behind their back for shipping a non BLmatsu ship/rare pair in the fandom which added onto their reason(s) for why they don’t interact with other fans.

Now, to start with the people who don’t like the fandom-- They dislike and/or are terrified for the fandom because of the amount of BL/matsu shippers. The majority of the ones who mentioned this would also add that they dislike interacting with BL shippers and/or are scared to accidentally be friends with them, because it makes them uncomfortable and would rather avoid it at all costs. 

The other side of “I dislike the fandom” comes from BL shippers and/or people who are neutral on it, they feel as if the fandom is hostile and toxic due to the amount of policing certain fans do + thanks to harassment from antis in some cases. A few did ever so slightly mention that the “2016/17″ years of the fandom were much worse for them, so it seems like they’re somewhat glad it’s calmed down a bit in later years. (Of course, there’s still some people who mostly interact with the Eastern side due to it being quieter compared to the Western side)

While there were some who were newer to the fandom so they didn’t have an opinion on it, or some that just don’t feel apart of the fandom in general-- Ultimately I chose to add all of the opinions that I saw most of.

 Overall, doing this was honestly tricky due to the amount of...variety there was with everyone’s comments, I could make this longer if I really wanted to by adding more thoughts but..  I don’t really want to expose anymore opinions that I already am, so that’s all I can show.

Going towards the “participation in fandom events” slide: 

66.5% of the responses have never joined an osmt fandom related event at all, while 33.5% have! I’m honestly shocked, but I can understand why.

Which, in return leads the 33.5% to the next part: 

There was a lot more “Yes and No” without an explanation than I would’ve thought there would be but, most people had a positive experience with them! Whether it be from gaining new friends, or from making them want to create (mainly) Zines themselves. 

For the few that unfortunately did end up not enjoying them, it was either from they were treated by the hosts in the events, it being too stressful, or from poor management in the events. 

And finally, onto the very last public question for this survey: 

While there are some who’re moving onto other things, most if not everyone still love the series as much as they originally did upon watching it. If not, more so now thanks to the amount of official content there is for it!

Fandom, or falling out of the series aside-- If it weren’t for the boys doing dumb things then, I could say that most people wouldn’t really currently be here, now would they? 

Whether it be from the comedy appealing to people, the voice actors, the art style and/or animation, the soundtrack, or from the characters-- People ended up appreciating Ososan for what it is more than they thought they would, one mentioned that despise being a gag anime: “It does its serious moments well” and for that, they enjoy the series as it is more. Almost as if, it was a breath of fresh air from what a few are normally use to in a way? Maybe?

It helps a lot that for some, osmt was the only thing that made them happy during bad periods of their lives. 

Regardless, while I kept the final question brief-- I did appreciate all the answers that everyone submitted. I tried to summarize everyone to the best I could to avoid making it even longer than it should be. :”)
