Day 3: Cleaning

Kafka x Hoshina | Nim's Lovely Tickletober 

Word Count: 900

Cold. Sleepy. Reno hated late night bathroom visits, but sometimes they had to happen, and in his case, they happened a lot. If he wasn't up at night to eliminate kaiju, he would be up to take a piss. Ugh. He should really learn to drink less before going to bed.

He was practically still asleep as he moved forward, shuffling sleepily towards his destination while yawning again and again.

Why did a human even need to pee? Why were their bodies made like this? Why did their bodies need to eject liquid like this, and from such a place too? Thinking of these questions, he couldn't help but suddenly remember Kafka in his Kaiju form. Pissing from his nipples. Now that was something. Pffft.

The quiet of the night was filled with his own chuckles as he laughed by himself at the funny memory, and almost as if someone had been reading his mind, a sudden burst of laughter could be heard from the bathroom he was heading for. The light was on too. Hmm?

Getting closer, Reno peeked into the room and, oh! "Senp-!" Reno almost called out to Kafka, but then noticed he was bending over something. No, someone.

"YAhahaha! Youuuu-ahahah!" Reno covered his mouth to muffle a loud gasp. Vice Captain Hoshina? Reno watched in shock how Hoshina lay sprawled on the cold tiles, wriggling from side to side as Kafka pinned him down and... tickled him?

"So you really thought this would be worse than push-ups or laundry duty? Did you hm? Cleaning bathrooms is nothing for me. Don't you know I cleaned worse things than that?"

Wow. When did Kafka get so confident and sassy around Hoshina? Reno was surprised to see him tickle the usually strong and cool Vice Captain with ease, making him laugh and giggle brightly.

Tears were in his eyes, and he was squirming and kicking hysterically. Reno knew from experience that Kafka and his Kaiju-strength were quite something to deal with and that he could definitely be a tickle monster in disguise, but he wondered if Hoshina was really as helpless as he seemed. Or if he, well yeah, allowed it?

"I fohohorgot! Hahaha!" Hoshina laughed loudly. Reno eyed the cleaning tools in the corner of the bathroom. He knew that the Vice Captain had been bullying Kafka lately, everyone knew that, but it was also because Kafka would sometimes need those punishments, for coming late, for disobeying orders, for transforming without permission and getting himself in danger or for simply calling Mina by her first name.

From push-ups to household chores, Kafka was getting bossed around a lot by Hoshina in particular, and it seemed that he had gotten himself a bathroom cleaning duty this time.

The floor looked clean and sparkling, and on that freshly cleaned floor Hoshina was rolling around, getting tickled by a very lively Hibino Kafka, in the middle of the night. Hm. Reno wondered if he was still dreaming.

"Ehehehe! Okahahay big guhuhuy! Thahat's enough! Hehehe!"

Kafka laughed softly. "What was that? I didn't catch it." Reno couldn't believe that this was their behavior when they were alone together. Just when he wondered if Hoshina really would let Kafka control him like that, the Vice Captain swiftly broke free and within a split second, Kafka was on his back and their roles had reversed.

"You were saying?" Hoshina said, just a little bit out of breath as he pinned Kafka down and clawed at his chubby stomach. The shrieks that came from Kafka, well, Reno wondered if really no one else would hear this. They were literally echoing right out of the bathroom, startling him.

"AHAHAH! I'M SOHOHORRY!" he barked, sounding like he was already crying with laughter way too soon. Reno took a step back. He felt as if he was witnessing something he shouldn't.

There clearly was something going on between these two that normally wasn't visible during the day and during their missions.

"NOHOHO - not thehere! I'll pihihiss my pahahants! Wahahah!"

"Do it, and you can clean up again. You're so good at that, didn't you say so? You like cleaning, don't you Kafka?" Hoshina sang, and judging from the pitch and volume in Kafka's voice, rather than ceasing the attack, he was even tickling him more.

Reno slowly walked away from the scene, still listening to the hysterical noises. After the mention of pissing, Reno felt a certain pressure on his bladder, reminding him why he had come here in the first place. He had to pee.

Squeezing his legs together, Reno awkwardly went the other way to visit a different bathroom. Well, that was that then.

The next morning, it was clear that he wasn't the only one who was still sleepy.

"Rough night huh," Reno mumbled when Kafka yawned. Kafka nodded.

"Uhuh. Got saddled with cleaning duty until late night."

"U-uhuh. Cleaning duty huh." So that was what he called it. Reno watched how Kafka cluelessly continued to eat his breakfast, and he smiled. He wasn't going to meddle now, but what he witnessed last night definitely wasn't just a cleaning duty and sure changed his views on Kafka's relationship with their Vice Captain!

All he could do now was keep a watchful eye and make sure whatever was going on between them, wouldn't hurt or endanger Kafka!

I'm off work for a few days from today on and so looking forward to have more time drawing. I wanted to start right away tonight, but accidently caught myself in a 3 hour afternoon nap and now I really feel how drained I am at the moment.

So for starters have some experimental stuff I did last week and wasn't sure wether I like it or not just yet.. now I kinda like the idea of not using brushes and work with sharp shapes only stylewise..

I have some ref sheets close to be finished as well. But I am struggling so hard with my monitor and it's colors. I am not satisfied at all with them. Maybe I fully switch to tablet for coloring now..

Is it just me or are we starved of Hunting Dogs tk content?? Like, please I need wholesome content of the babies (newest manga chapters are destroying me). I wanna see Teruko and Tachi acting like the silly little siblings they are. Tecchou being able to show a more relaxed side of himself rather than the serious soldier he’s often shown to be. Jouno’s intimidating facade being broken by a few pokes or scratches. Idk if it’s just me, just needed to share these thoughts 😭

The way I read this and almost said “Kaiju no. 8?” Cause I literally forgot about the hunting dogs 😭🙏🏻 But NO THIS IS SO CUTE??? Jouno especially being broken down by a few pokes and prods- he’s such a troll, he deserves it!

And Teruko and Tachi being goofballs I love!! She would absolutely start it by jabbing him in the side and acting like she didn’t. He tries to get her back but she’s quick and lethal and every successful tickle she lands he gets several back in return and he’s whining to Jouno like “Make her stop!” But he’s too busy enjoying the game abawsnnwnznsns oh and Tecchou decides to help cause he thinks Tachi is at a disadvantage and it all just kinda turns into one big tickle royal I cannot my HEART 🤣🤣😭😭😭

1. i can talk forever about this. beware of this fat ass paragraph. but most of my smaus start from a few random ass ideas, headcanons, texts that i find really funny that im like i need to turn this into a series…. and then they accidentally spiral into the shit i write. like dwmb started because i knew this guy that was an irl version of dwmb jake and i was like i need to put this characterization to use. i use a lott of real life inspo + text convos with friends tho. ive mentioned it before but the sword fighting wizard was a real guy i saw on campus 😭😭

2. hmmmm its a bit of a process but once i have a clear idea, i can pump out the majority of it out in 4-5 days when i have the time. and then rhere are certain chapters ill leave blank when i cant think of anything funny to say and slowly fill them out over the course of the next month when i force myself to be productive. its all in a huge google doc until its time to post the chapter, i have to make it the night before.

3. ANIME RECS my favorite show ever is bungo stray dogs. i’ve rewatched it like six times. recently watched kaiju no 8 + hells paradise and really loved those ones!! i dont watch a lot of movies. my letterboxd this year is so barren and empty….. the latest one ive seen was me rewatching sky high…. love that one

Hi sibby bibby! Definitely not going easy on me with these, but let's see!

Kafka of Kaiju no. 8

He's so everything one can want in a main lead of a story. He's the beaten up dreamer version of a typical hero that grew up, accepted defeat, but remained kind and supportive. He throws himself whole into a second chance, never looks down on or hates younger people who have their successes come much easier. He's goofy, sweet, relentless, powerful in kindness. 10/10 would kiss on cheek.

Mina and Hoshina, preferable in world's most ride or die battle powerthrouple.

Reno and Kikoru, the kids he randomly found on a street and said 'is anyone gonna love and take care of these?' and then ran off with them without waiting for an answer.

Not involved in fandom enough to know what's popular fanon, but I think he's a needy switch and quite inexperienced because he was pining away for Mina. He takes to learning with gusto as with anything else, though.

That he wholly accepted it is him as person that made all of his efforts worth it, saved lives, not his monster-self. And also Kafkohismina downtime or battlethrouple scenes.

Ginko of Mushishi

He is so. *clenches fist* He says I don't care while he cares, so deeply. There is air of forever haunting melancholy and longing about him. A forever wandering half-myth that yearns to belong, that bears so many stories. He's so everything.

Adashino and Tanyuu. The letter writing ot3 AU we've created has changed me as a person, for the better.

Honestly? Same two. Their relationship is based on friendship, respect, unique bonds that are never on-screen romantic, so you can see them as you wish. Also I think he and Tama Minai have interesting dynamic that would be great to expand further. And of course Nui. Oh Nui.

Hits him with demisexual beam, just like every other character I love.

More on-screen maintaining of friendships with Adashino and Tanyuu via letters and the like. Also I know the point is that he can't settle down, that he is forever wanderer, but my heart can yearn for him to have a place called home.

Ashton Greymoore of Critical Role, Bell's Hells.

I admit I've fallen off the bandwagon and I wrestle with feeling like I misunderstood some things of his character since I can't quite understand some of their latest choices, but, in my heart of hearts, Ashton will always be LOML. I imprinted on them from getgo, instantly saw the undercurrents of care and golden, cracked heart they try to conceal. I just want to take care of them, so so badly, and to let them know they deserve it, no matter what. That they don't have to earn it or buy it. That they just have to be. FCG, absolutely. I also think them and Orym make for an interesting 'our safety last, as long as our friends aren't hurt' kind of tank duo.

I don't like him and Fe*rne as a ship. Might be because her character as a whole doesn't appeal much to me, maybe because I don't see them embracing their growth and heart of hearts with her, whatever it is, it just doesn't tickle my fancy, but I fully respect character choices made by players. As long as Taliesin is having fun! He knows Ashton the best. Also I wish they'd been liked and appreciated by fandom for more than just being part of a ship. Before those took off, you could hardly find Ashton content. Even still, the focus on them is often quite shippy.

I am forever haunted by the time their worst fears were shown to be them losing control of themselves and the alternate lives shown as them being a king, a leader. I really wish they could embrace that more, be heard and seen, instead of sometimes their ideas even being attributed to other members of the party. There was a time when I'd have killed for a fic where they become part of Keyleth's entourage/just hang out with Ashari and get a chance to be comfortable.

13 year old me thought she was the PEAK cool. One of aesthetic-bi awakenings. Did I want to be her or just stare at her? Yes. During rewatches as an adult, I have come to appreciate the complexity of her character and most of all, her growth from sheltered, straining-against-it young woman to a driven person with spiky shell, but that shell will also shelter others, if you earn her trust and her care. Considering how much was hidden from her, how much lies and betrayal she uncovered, it's hard to blame her for not being open with it immediately.

Vincent and particularly, Ergo Proxy. She and Mina would be gun-toting, monsterfucking besties for sure.

Pino and Re-l are such an underrated dynamic. There is something to be said about Iggy as well, especially since it's hard to tell if his pre-demise behavior was "truth" or not.

Too arrogant, uptight and demisexual to have had proper previous relationships. Also probably had some truly loser phases of makeup that Iggy has photos of.

I wish she had more time to unpack everything about Daedalus, her grandfather, who she is. The last act of anime didn't give many of these things any breathing room. I am fascinated to explore how she changed and grew in wake of it all.

It starts with Iharu Furuhashi asking if Kafka lost weight (or well specifically commenting on his belly lolol) so Kafka is all smug and proud like fufuuu the day I'll be a physical beauty is getting closer~~, but Iharu is like nono we still can't see your abs.

Thats where Hoshina joins in and says he agrees, Kafka hasn't lost all his fat yet and they start feeling around - turn to page 2 where Kafka freaks out and yells they should stop hehe. But instead Iharu catches him and literally says "here you go vice-captain~"

They don't literally mention tickling but it does look like them squeezing around tickled Kafka and that they are now eager to continue that.

Sad that's where it stops lol. It seems to be a fanart/doujinshi.

7 Deadly Sins: Gigan

SHOWA GHIDORAH GIGAN

Wrath (7/10)

Gigan doesn’t get angry very often. Whatever he’s doing, he’s doing it to have a good time and he’s much more likely to be amused than pissed when something stands up to him. That being said, he does have his triggers (especially in his Final Wars form) and when they’re pushed, he selects violence. Brutal bloody violence. Without any hesitation. So don’t piss him off. He WILL kill you without a second thought, and trust me, this sadistic bastard WON’T be making your death pleasant.

Gluttony (8/10)

Gigan likes to eat. Unlike most kaiju, his species are obligate carnivores that actively hunt and kill to survive. They aren’t Skullcrawler levels of ravenous, but pretty close. Growing up, food was used as a reward for Gigan by his Nebulan masters and although the reward changed to mates when he reached adulthood, he still treated his “mates” as prey, and would cannibalize them when he was done. Yeah, you read right, Gigan is a cannibal. Happy about it too. Freed from Nebulan control to live his own life, it only got worse. He was no longer limited to whatever food was given to him, the whole Universe is his banquet! He has a habit of seeing others as prey to toy with and devour. His career as an assassin worked pretty well since no worries on disposing of the body, he got it covered under the contract. As a pirate, even better, as he can slaughter whoever he pleases and really get to sample some exotic meats. But then, tragedy struck. Ever since being forced into his Final Wars form, he no longer needed to eat. Indeed, he’s become more machine than organic, and he hates it. So as if in defiance to his new biology, he still indulges in food even though he doesn’t need it. Just to give himself the illusion that he’s still alive.

Greed (10/10)

Gigan is a very greedy creature. Part of his becoming a pirate is to steal and horde all the things labeled as valuable and sell them on the black space-market. He accumulates a lot of riches and although he can use them to live in luxury whenever he fancies to, he still prefers to use intimidation and threat of planetary destruction rather than spend actual money. Give even a cent to the needy? Nah, he’d rather eat the needy. Hey, it’s putting them out of their misery at least! And no, he’s not sharing any of his food. If his friends want food, they can get it themselves. Space-ducks will only share their food with their mates and chicks, and Gigan’s “mate”, Ghidorah, doesn’t even eat, and they have no chicks, so win-win! More for him!

Envy (9/10)

You would think someone as powerful and handsome as Gigan wouldn’t have much to envy. And you’d be right.... in his Showa form. As Final Wars, there is one thing he’s become very envious of and that’s the fact that he will never be considered "alive", like everyone else. Ghidorah’s moon-crests always glow so bright for these lesser creatures, but so dim for him. Constantly reminding him of his insecurity, and making his jealousy worse. So y’know what, let’s keep some folks alive around Ghidorah, that way Gigan can look at that glow and pretend that it’s for him. This envy for life really does drive him a lot in his current form; anything that gives him the illusion that he’s still his old self will be done. Have fun to its fullest? Yes. Sleep around? Yes. Eat when he doesn’t need to? Yes. Flaunt Ghidorah around to make everyone else envious of HIM?! Hell, yeah- Wait, is Ghidorah paying attention to someone that isn’t him?! Is Ghidorah TALKING to anyone that isn’t him, WITHOUT PERMISSION?! FEUIHDOWA- Actually, maybe he does have a bit more envy than I thought, now that he has a mate to be possessive over. 

Sloth (7/10)

Like Showa Ghidorah, Gigan spends a lot of time in dormancy during space-travel in his diamond. Not as often though, as he will also hi-jack ships with his ‘crew’ and has the luxury of enjoying said space-travel with victims and friends alike. He does require sleep as Showa Gigan and did indeed sleep alot, a hold-over of his days in captivity when there wasn't much to do beyond sleep, eat, and whatever mission they wanted from him. But when he is awake, he did work diligently for his Masters, to the best of his abilities and with great enthusiasm. As Final Wars though, he no longer requires sleep. But he still does so, because he’s alive, dammit! Now let him dream! But now, he no longer works an actual job (he quit his beloved assassin career after being forced into his new "updated" form), and has since grown more laid back (aka, lazy) as to whether or not he'll follow-through on whatever responsibilities is placed on him. He likes having fun and feeling forced into responsibility is not fun! So that heightens his score.

Lust (10/10)

Gigan is a horny bastard. If there’s a victim that even slightly tickles his fancy, guaranteed, he will have extra fun with them before they die. He’s also been known to use sexual favors to get what he wants, especially for a certain love-struck beetle that keeps whining about wanting to go home. Those sales-people that can't be won over with the threat of death? Well, make love, not war as they say! He also likes visiting the less savory parts of the universe, specifically to watch shows and request services. But truly, the primary target of his lust is the three-headed dragon himself. Those golden scales and massive wings will drive any space-duck crazy with WANT and Gigan is no exception. Before seeing this hydra, the idea of mating for life wasn’t something he was ever interested in, but now, Ghidorah is something that he wants to keep for himself. Forever. Back before he decided to track down the dragon, if he even THOUGHT about this golden wyvern, guaranteed, he’s going to fuck something, he doesn’t care who or what. When he finally does get his claws on Ghidorah, literally EVERYTHING this dragon does has Gigan lusting for him even more. To Ghidorah's dismay.

Pride (10/10)

Gigan is a very prideful creature. He's a narcissistic individual who only thinks of his own pleasure, and sees everyone else as either a means to an end, prey, or a toy. He takes great pride in combat abilities, and is prone to underestimating his target. He adores his claws and often brandishes them at every opportunity to show them off, and intimidate foes. In his Showa form, he especially took pride in his appearance. Raised in captivity, he was a prime example of his race, with gleaming feathers and large sails. Being a cyborg only enhanced his pride, as it made him far stronger than the rest of his species, something he readily took advantage of whenever the Nebulans rewarded him with a ‘mate’. But this took a blow in his Final Wars form, where he lost everything that made him an attractive space-duck and became more of a machine than an organic creature, and he's become quite self-conscious about this. He covers this under a veil of over-exaggerated confidence, but has become a bit more sensitive when his insecurity is poked at. And by "sensitive", I mean violent. Extremely violent, even towards his perceived mate. So call him "half-life" again, Ghiddy boi, you're already half-way to being disemboweled; give him a reason to finish the job. Terrible as his Final Wars form is, he’s a hell of a lot more powerful than he’s ever been before, with more weaponry added to his arsenal. That’s still a source of pride that ALMOST makes up for his freakish appearance. But his greatest pride yet is enslaving Ghidorah as his mate; something about having such a beautiful and powerful creature under his claw is satisfying and you bet your ass he’s going to show off his accomplishment to everyone in the Universe! 

TOTAL: 61/70

Showa Ghidorah’s score was surprisingly low, but this is probably the highest score any of these characters will get. Gigan is a heinous individual, a disgusting reprehensible villain that has no interest in redeeming himself. There’s a reason I label my “Half-Life” series as being my darkest, and it’s all because of this guy!

Like Father, Like Daughter (Part 8)

Through a somewhat tight throat, Mayu managed to explain what she knew and what had occurred. Admittedly, she knew very little about what went on, but she would explain what she could. While she mentioned Kurow being there, she didn’t mention that he wasn’t human or that the Alien Pitts were after him, just that someone she knew showed up. She didn’t mention their conversation or any of that, she wasn’t even sure if she could go through recounting that, not without breaking into tears.

After Mayu finished explaining, Laiha thought for a moment, “Okay,” She said, then placed her hand on Mayu’s shoulder, “Why don’t you go home and change clothes. We’ll start trying to come up with a plan.”

Mayu nods in response, truthfully, she was still pretty tired, so much so that she really didn’t want to do much more that day. But she knew she had to, as much as she hated that she did. As much as she hated that she’d rather just go to bed right then and there.

She doesn’t really pay much attention as she trudges home, feeling only marginally better than last time she was out. The rain had, thankfully, died down a bit, now more of light sprinkle than the pouring that it had been earlier. When she gets home, the first person she sees is her dad, who smiles at her, then notes her soaked clothes.

“Oh, were you caught outside when it started to rain like that?” He asked, his tone warm, though somewhat concerned.

“Yeah,” Mayu nods, trying to sound normal, “I’m going to change, but I promised my friends to help them with something, so I’m heading over to help after.”

She changes into dry clothes quick enough, it’s when she’s back in the living room that her dad speaks up again. “We should have a family day again soon,” He says, smiling, “We used to have them all the time when you were little, but everyone just seems so busy now...”

Mayu puts on a smile, hoping it doesn’t look too forced. “Yeah, that’d be nice.” Despite her best efforts, it’s clear to her that her dad can see through her efforts to seem normal. To seem like nothing’s wrong.

“Is everything alright?” The concern is evident in his voice when he asks, “Normally you get excited for a family day, but you sound a bit...”

She sighed, looking down for a moment before responding, “Today’s been... a day.”

“Did something happen?”

Oh, that was a loaded question, she knew it was. But she couldn’t exactly answer it, not entirely. Or well, she could, but then that would cause him to worry more, she wasn’t sure if she wanted that. She wanted nothing more than for things to go back to normal, but well, that wasn’t going to happen, not so easily.

She settles for telling him, “A friend and I got in a fight, he thinks he doesn’t need others. It’s got me really bummed out.”

Her dad walks over to her, wrapping his arms around her in a hug. When he pulls back, he places her hands on her shoulders. “Well, I’m sure that if the two of you are really friends, you’ll make up. Don’t let one little fight get you down.” If only it were just one fight. But there was so much, so much she didn’t want to tell him despite the fact she wanted desperately to tell him. “I think you’ll just have to show him how great some people can be.”

She gives him a small smile, “I think you’re right,”

He smiles back, then reaches to give her head a pat. “Now you said you were going to help your friends with something?”

“Yeah, I’m going, I’m going,” She laughs slightly, then leaves. Once she returns to the Nebula House, Noa’s joined the group, sitting on the couch playing with Yuji. Mayu hopes that they’ve come up with some semblance of a plan, something that might work, because she knows that she isn’t going to be able to contribute much to planning.

Noa smiles at her, giving her a brief wave, “Hey, hear it’s been quite the day for you,” Mayu just gives her a small smile and a shrug, “You okay?”

“I’ll be fine,” It’s an insistence that, judging by Noa’s frown, Noa didn’t actually buy. And, Mayu imagined, if it weren’t for the baby she was playing with, Noa would have said such.

It’s Laiha who speaks next, her words bringing a degree of relief, though not much. “Well, we’ve come up with a plan. Not the best, but it’ll have to do.”

From there, Zena takes over, “Pega will sneak in to try to see how many there are.” Pega gives a nod in response, showing he understands his role, “Once we know how many there are, we’ll either try to sneak in and free Riku and Moa, or we’ll brute force it. Whichever suits best.”

“If need be,” Laiha added, “Zena and I can act as a distraction.”

Zena looks to Mayu next, “You and Zero will be on standby, in case a Kaiju appears.” That was fine with her, she wasn’t sure how near those Aliens she wanted to get. She wasn’t sure why, but even the thought of this whole thing made her... extremely uncomfortable. Nervous.

“Right,” She said, “That- that sounds like a plan.”

“And I’ll stay here to help REM watch over the gremlin!” Noa declared, immediately leaning in to tickle Yuji’s stomach. He let’s out a squeal and then a laugh. Mayu couldn’t help the small smile that slipped onto her face at the sight, it was hard not to when Yuji was being so adorable.

It wasn’t long before they left to execute their plan, no one wanted to wait too long, not to mention they had no clue what the Alien Pitts were really up to. Even what Mayu knew from Kurow wasn’t much, he’d been pretty vague, either on purpose or because he too didn’t know.

Soon enough, they stood a bit away from the damaged music store the Alien Pitts had set up base in. They were waiting on Pega, who was investigating the store, using his ability to travel in shadows. It was a bit tense, Mayu supposed, they all stood in quiet, all somewhat anxious. Even Zena seemed a concerned. Finally, Pega appeared from the shadows.

“There’s a lot of ‘em in there,” He said, his voice full of concern, “I found where Moa and Riku are but...” 

“We’ll manage,” Laiha assured, “Now, where are they?”

Pega didn’t look entirely reassured, actually, he barely looked reassured at all. Which was fair, while Mayu was sure that Zena and Laiha could take care of themselves, especially since Laiha has a sword. But the Alien Pitts did manage to capture Moa and Riku and Moa had a good ten years or so of time with the AIB, with Riku being stronger than your average human. Still, Mayu decided that she would just keep telling herself that they would be fine, it would save her from a lot of worrying and stress. As long as she believed it hard enough, then it would be fine, right? Who was she kidding this wasn’t so kids show.

“There’s a room in the basement, it’s locked. Um, there’s a door in the back of the building that they don’t really pay attention to, at least it seemed like it.” Pega finally told them. Though he still sounded concerned, he still seemed to have chosen to trust them. Mayu supposed that was all either he or herself could do, at that moment.

Laiha and Zena head to the music store, leaving Mayu in the park, with Pega hanging in her shadow. There didn’t seem to be anyone else around. While waiting, she found her thoughts beginning to wander. She thought about what Zero had told her, about Kurow. It didn’t take a genius to be able to figure out that he had been taught to think that way, but he clearly wasn’t taught it long enough for it to be fully ingrained. He could still feel, clearly, he wasn’t good with emotions, but...

Then, someone taps on Mayu’s shoulder and she turns around, greeted with an unexpected sight. Kurow stood there, a smile on his face as he waved.

“Ku-” He shot her a look when she began, something told her that she wasn’t supposed to call him by his actual name. “Ayumu?”

“Is this a friend of yours?” Pega whispers, though rather loudly, from his hiding place in her shadow. Kurow doesn’t seem to notice him, at least.

She wasn’t sure how to feel, in that moment. She supposed she should still be mad at him, or something. But she couldn’t quite feel it. Or maybe she was just too tired to care.

“Why are you back here?” He asks, he almost sounds angry, but not quite. Still far too neutral. “Are those two more of your friends?”

“Why does it matter to you?” Mayu responds bitterly, “You said you only worry about yourself. So why do you care why I’m back here?”

Kurow looks away, off towards the direction the music shop is in, though the look was somewhat hidden by his bangs. “The Alien Pitts will stop at nothing to achieve their goal. Whatever you’re planning, it won’t work.”

Mayu let’s out a bitter laugh, it seems like that’s all she can do. Bitterly speak, bitterly laugh, bitterly hope for the best. “How would you know? You don’t know what we’re planning.” She bites back at him, “Besides, you never answered, why. do. you. care?”

Kurow’s eyes snap back to her, she sees his hands tighten into fists, they tighten and loosen from there, but it’s hard to tell. He looks at her, his lips twitch, like they want to do something, to change their position from neutral. Then he frowns slightly, before speaking “I understand that we don’t agree on everything-”

“Oh,” Mayu scoffs, “That keeps turning into more and more of the understatement of the year.”

“But” He continued, almost entirely ignoring her, “I don’t.... I wouldn’t like to see something bad happen to you.”

What. She hadn’t- she wasn’t- What?

She looked at him, looked him in the eye, and she could tell, she could tell he meant it. She wasn’t sure how she could, but she just could. Now why? Why did he care, when just hours before he said that the only one you should worry about it yourself?

“Why?” She asks quietly, looking away, at a building off to their side.

Kurow exhaled through his nose, “I don’t know.” He said, “I suppose it’s because you’ve been nothing but kind to me. Even when you got mad... It was my fault.”

Mayu... wasn’t sure how to respond to that. How did one respond to that? How does anyone respond to any of this? But she also knows that this conversation can’t keep going. Soon enough Laiha and Zena would find Riku and Moa and free them. If an Eleking shows up, she’ll have to be ready, especially if Riku isn’t able to transform into Geed right away.

She looks down and thinks for a moment, before looking back up at Kurow. “I appreciate that. Really, I do. I don’t want something bad to happen to you either.” She had hoped that she wouldn’t need to directly tell him that for him to understand it.

“Then you won’t do whatever you have planned.”

“No,” Came her firm response, “This has to happen, for the sake of more than just you and me. I’ll stay out here unless something happens, so hopefully, the only thing I might have to do is let Zero take care of a monster. You don’t need to worry about me too much.”

Kurow frowned, though it seemed more like a slightly annoyed frown than an actually upset frown. “I’m not worried about you I’d just-”

Then there’s a shake, or a rumble. She isn’t quite sure what it was, not until she hears the sound of a building crashing to the ground not too far away. Her eyes quickly searched for the source, before landing on a kaiju. It was a yellowish green, with spots around it. Little antennae on it’s head, about where she’d imagine it’s eyes ought to be.

“Eleking,” Zero says, his tone firm. “No sign of Geed, we’ll have to try to deal with it on our own.”

Great. That’s just great. Before Mayu can delegate much more thought to the whole thing, she hears Kurow make a sound. She isn’t quite sure what it is.

“You two ought to get going,” He said, shrugging, “I wish your friends the best of luck when dealing with those Pitts. I, for one, am getting out of here, as far from them as I can.”

He gives her a look, one that she isn’t quite sure how to interpret. “If you and your friends are smart, you’ll deal with this monster and do the same.”

“He’s at least partially right, we need to deal with the Eleking.”

“Right, sure,” Mayu said, though she was still feeling out of it, just a bit. “Let’s get this over with.”

They transform and Zero quickly rushes to the monster, attempting to grab it. In return, he ended up with a nasty shock. He stumbles back, though careful not to bump into any buildings. At least not too hard.

“Be more careful Zero!” Mayu yelled, “Why would you just try to grab a thing that can shock you?”

“Well, Mayu,” Zero responded with a grunt, regaining his balance at the same time. He stands up again. “How am I supposed to fight him if I can’t touch him?”

Mayu groaned, “You have head daggers.”

“Head-what?” Then he realizes, “They’re called my Zero Sluggers!”

“Whatever!” Mayu groans, “Maybe just try using those? I don’t know! Fighting’s your thing, not like you seem to have any other hobbies. Why am I the one giving ideas on how to deal with monsters?”

Zero doesn’t respond, but he does grab his Zero Sluggers, launching them at the Eleking. They seem to do some damage, as the monster stumbles back slightly, then lets out a roar of anger. Or annoyance. Mayu wasn’t quite sure which.

The Sluggers have returned to Zero when he finally gives an idea. “We need Beyond,” He said, “There’s no way we’re beating this guy otherwise, not unless Geed shows up.”

Zero Beyond, okay, sure, she could manage that. Now that she actually knew how to do that, she could manage it. Probably. So maybe it wasn’t a thing done much, but she’d done it at least once, so that’s something! Can’t go worse than the first time, after all. She quickly gets to work with the Riser, Ultra Capsules, and Zero Eye.

Soon Zero Beyond stood, ready to try to fight the Eleking. Mayu honestly hoped Geed would show up soon, as she was worried. Zero seemed confident that he could defeat the monster like this, but still, she supposed this whole day had her a bit on edge.

The kaiju didn’t seem to appreciate the light show that came from the change to Zero Beyond. Or maybe it was just impatient. Hard to say. Anyway, it roars and runs at Zero, electricity flickering across its body. This time, Zero dodged out of the way, using his sluggers to attack in response.

From there, it honestly didn’t take all that long to defeat the Eleking. Soon it was blowing up, letting out a cry. So maybe Zero could manage to deal with it. That was still too stressful for Mayu’s liking, but it turned out okay.

Soon they return to human, Mayu grumbling slightly at the new bruises on her. Then she runs towards the music store. The appearance of Eleking meant that the Alien Pitts probably knew that Laiha and Zena were there. Or maybe they just wanted to see if they’d gotten the Ultraman. Did they even know Riku was Geed?

Standing outside of the shop were Laiha, Zena, Riku, and Moa, with Pega standing in Riku’s shadow. Thank goodness, they’re all okay. She calls out to them and waves.

“Oh, Mayu!” Moa smiles, “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“Me?” Mayu asked, “I wasn’t the one who was held captive.”

Moa laughs a little, while Riku lets out an awkward laugh, before saying, “At least you and Zero managed to beat the Eleking. That one was stronger than the last one, clearly.” Oh, so there’d been an Eleking before? One that must have been defeated much more easily than this one. Well that lined up with what Zero had said earlier.

“I didn’t really do much,” Was all Mayu said. Riku looked like he was about to say something, but she notices Moa looking off in a direction. Following her eyes, Mayu see Kurow, leaning against a tree, his whiteboard in hand, hanging at his side.

Mayu doesn’t let Riku say much more, instead walking over towards Kurow and bit and calling out, “Hey! I thought you were leaving!”

The others look at her, a bit shocked. Across the way, beneath the tree, Kurow shrugs, using his foot to push himself off. He holds up the sign board so they can see it. “My work here is done” It said.

That caused Mayu to frown as she began to walk away. She yells to him, “You didn’t do anything! Just commented about stuff!”

He doesn’t respond, unsurprisingly, but she knows he heard her. Riku looks at her, but it’s Pega who speaks. “That friend of yours is a bit strange, huh?” He notes, “I mean, I don’t think I’ve even heard him speak.”

“Yeah, he sure is something,” Is her response. She’s thankful that Pega didn’t question what had to have sounded like a one-sided conversation that he’d heard earlier.

Leito sits as Lumina begins to cook dinner. He’d help her, but he had the tendency to drop and spill things, so she usually insisted on doing it alone. Understandable. Hopefully, Mayu would be back soon, she didn’t normally miss dinner. His phone dings and he checks it, finding Mayu sent a text saying she’d be back soon. Well that was good. That also reminds him...

“It sounds like Mayu has a new friend,” He comments, looking over to where Lumina was.

“That’s good,” She responds, “I’m glad, she doesn’t exactly have a lot of friends, so it’s good she’s making new ones.”

“Yeah,” Leito smiles, before thinking a bit. “It sounds like it’s a boy too...”

Lumina chuckles quietly at his observation, almost too quiet for him to hear, but he somehow manages. Then a thought strikes him, “Wait,” He said, “Do you thinks she has a boyfriend?”

This time, Lumina laughs without trying to hide it, “I never said that” She smiled.

He heard her... It’s just the meaning of her words didn’t quite register. “Oh, our little girl’s growing up,” He wails. He could easily remember when she was little and when she began going to school. When she met Noa and when she was small enough for him to pick up. Even that time when she’d had a Little Star, the Ultra Capsule belonging to Zero... That was still a bit ironic.

Which also brought up something else he’d have to look into, but that could be saved until another day.
