I hate when kai gets characterised by the fandom as always being angry.

like sure he expresses his anger more obviously than the others, but maybe its because he wasn't taught how to emotionally regulate himself when he was younger (missing parents)

which also explains why nya is also known to lose her temper a lot, because not only did she not have parents around to help her with that, but was also brought up with her older brother that couldn't regulate his emotions either, (assuming when they were younger, nya followed example after kai as lots of younger siblings tend to do)
