Kawaii~Chan always bothered me as a kid because I was raised in Japan (ages 4-18) and every time she spoke or tossed a Japanese word in there or gave certain characters certain suffixes I was so

So very,,,,, adjective. Mostly confused. That’s the adjective.

SO I GOTTA TALK ABOUT THE LANGUAGE IMPLICATIONS OF HER DAUGHTER NEKOETTE

She named her daughter Nekoette: Transliterated to cat-ette. -ette usually being tacked onto names in English to be more feminine and dainty, so OK her name is dainty cat.

But then they use the -tan suffix which isn’t a real name suffix it’s BABY SPEAK for -chan and I figured, alright well it is her daughter, and mothers baby speak their literal babies all the time. But then Nekoette never outgrows the -tan suffix? It’s with her the whole time. Meaning even as a teen she’s being called (baby voice) dainty kitty. Essentially her name means

POOR LITTLE MEOW MEOW

If Nana is Kawaii~Chan (可愛いちゃん : cute girl) then Nekoette is Kawaiisou (可愛いそう : poor thing)

Set her up for failure SO HARD. Transliterating her name gets you a mess, but localizing it it very easily localizes to Kitty. Which is such a cute name and also actually. A name.

Here’s the kanji for Nana’s name if anyone was curious: 那那 芦田

Not canon I had to write it out myself but that’s the most probable kanji for her. The kanji for Nana means beautiful, and the kanji for Ashida means rice farmer. Maybe her family in Tu’La were rice farmers??? Hidden lore?????? There’s no way her name was that thought out

Here’s that for Nekoette: 猫エト (猫エット？) 芦田

And for her rename, Kitty: キティ 芦田

(Technically you can kanji the name Kitty, but I feel like Nana would keep it in katakana because they live in Phoenix Drop and not Tu’La)

Katelyn and Dante both have phoenix tattoos, they aren't matching or anything they just both thought they were cool. Katelyn's is small just above her right thigh but Dante's is one that goes over his back.

Aaron always wears his bandana. in my brain he's never been able to control his eyes.

Kim works at a library with Zane, and they have this weird friendship where they don't really know each other but talk every so often while the library's quiet.

Lucinda was born with feint markings all over her body, but they grew more vibrant as she developed her witchcraft

Travis was also born with witchcraft markings, but he chooses to hide them. you know, until starlight.

Aaron has absolutely no sense of style

Zane has a tramp stamp tattoo he got when he was drunk LMAO. hes also got a semicolon tattoo on the left side of his neck

This isn't even a headcannon, I was gonna put Garroth and Katelyn in matching shirts but then I realised that it would probably just look like Garroth stole her shirt KJFSJKDF

zane straightens his hair. and the head damage is BAD he has like 2C hair that hes been straightening WET.

Kim's had long hair her whole life, and never really wanted to change it. but then one day Lucinda offered to get it cut and dyed for her to 'up her confidence' and honestly she really likes it :3

Travis can shapeshift, he's always been able to but pre-starlight it was just simple things, like changing his hair hiding certain aspects of himself. but after he's able to do a lot more (he just doesn't really like to.)

Dante can dance he does hip hop mainly (NO I AM NOT BIASED!!)

now, for last names. Katelyn Fortin - Fortin, meaning Strong. Dante Leto - Leto, meaning hidden. or Forgotten. Lucinda Hawthorne - I feel like this ones self explanatory LMAO Kim Navon - Navon, meaning Wise. Aphia Dea'Matrona - Aphia; excellent, most important. Dea'Matrona; Dea matrona is the spanish translation of 'The Matron'

I'm thinking about mcd characters losing what gives them purpose;

As Aphmau becomes a better known Lord, she mediates and makes alliances with villages not only across Ru'aun but other regions as well. She just doesn't have time anymore to do anything but paperwork and peace treaties so she can't spend time with her kids and friends anymore. She is lonely.

Garroth gets badly injured, maybe he was hit in a sensitive pressure point in his arm and is now partially paralyzed. He can't pick up a sword anymore let alone defend his Lord and village. His armor is too heavy on his joints and muscles so he's stuck in regular, flimsy clothing. He's also not technically a guard anymore but everyone has silently taken pity on him by letting him continue to live with the other guards but it really just makes him feel even more pathetic and useless.

Laurance becomes completely consumed by the calling and the shadow lord. He no longer feels like himself, merely a shell. He is numb, watching the world fly by like a never ending bad movie. He knows what he's doing, who he's hurting but physically cannot stop himself. He terrorizes and plunders towns and villages with no remorse. He just misses his sister.

Dante becomes so engrossed in his duties that it drives a rift between him and KC. She kicks him out and limits his time with Nekoette. Nicole and him have become civil for the sake of Dimitri but they are nowhere near friends. Dante is lonely, he can't care for either of his kids and is constantly reminded of his failed relationships so he increases his shifts and spends all his time on patrols. He can't talk to Aphmau about his issues because she's also busy, causing him to recluse further and further. His reflection is looking more and more like Gene by the day.

Cadenza is also occupied with Lord duties. She doesn't have time to design or make clothes anymore. She prided herself in her creativity and finding fashionable loopholes with her own armor but after a too close for comfort assassination attempt, she is forced to wear traditional, clunky armor.

KC who is now a fulltime mother with Nekoette getting older is unable to bake in large quantities like she used to. She cooks, cleans, and takes care of her daughter and that is how she spends her days. KC was upset to have to kick Dante out but couldn't deal with the absence. She regrets keeping boundaries between him and Nekoette but believes it's best for their daughter to not rely on an absent father. With the lack of her baking, her magicks are stunted leaving her with a constant lethargic feeling as the power drains from her body.
