people started asking crane (Max’s friend) on stream if Lestappen (Charles and max) is real. I think he was like “I shouldn’t be furthering/entertaining this” (I forgot what he said word for word). People took it as something to be excited about, that the drivers are aware of the ships and all, but idk. I think fandoms are getting too bold for my liking. I have no problem with shipping, but this parasocial behaviour is out of hand. I saw this when 1D was still a group (with Harry x Louis shippers harassing Louis to the point where he got so upset when the ship was referenced in the popular show Euphoria), I’ve seen it with Kpop in which idols have stopped hanging out publicly because fandoms get out of hand (a girl in the group Aespa had a boyfriend earlier this year and fans got very upset because they shipped her and another member and they broke up. A few years ago, 2 members of two different kpop groups (SNSD and EXO) dated and the girl got harassed at the airport even). And now this.
Fandoms get so parasocial so quickly, it’s insane. It’s not new behaviour, but it’s strange.
exactly, this isn't new behavior. but i feel like it's become more emboldened with how much more "online" both fans and companies/groups are.
more under the cut, because this is a long one....
i also think it ties into this notion that i've been seeing online about how fans have this feeling to be "right" both with rpf and fiction as well. that their theories, opinions and whatever else is "correct". i've seen this with like pieces of media like steven universe and even star wars. like fandom isn't fun anymore, it has become this weird one up over each other. i honestly don't know when this changed, my guess is around the pandemic when it seemed like people were more logged into the internet. but, i could be wildly off with that. (if you have an idea, i'd love to know). it just feels stupid in so many ways how fandoms are structured. even if you're not the "best" artist or writer, people can't have FUN in fandom - of course that doesn't mean it has to be absolved criticism. you can have fun and still call out hate within spaces. the issue with formula one (along with k-pop like you mentioned, anon), is that these aren't characters. this isn't arguing in the tags over is finnpoe or reylo is more valid or legitimate within the narrative. these are REAL people, with REAL friends, families and partners.
it's this weird push to have someone's theory - and while i have a soft spot for lestappen, it is at the end of the day nothing more than fan theory - be confirmed. also personally, if hattie (oscar's sister) or crane (max's friend) "outed" them, i would be horribly fucking offended on oscar/max's behalf. to have someone you TRUST just out you like that. it's sick. maybe it's because i worked in queer spaces from high school all the way through uni, and the number one rule no matter WHAT, is you never out someone. even if the question is harmless and the person asking has no ill intention. you never out another person, because it's not YOUR coming out. so the fact that fans are near begging these people to OUT their loved ones, is not only a level of delusion that i can't ever comprehend. but, also it could honestly, ruin that interpersonal relationship.
so like even if a driver is queer, whoever it may be. could be a driver from the 90s, could be a driver today, it could be a driver in five years, i don't want someone else in their life outing them. because that's THEIR story. and fans need to realize that. bothering crane or hattie or alexandra (i've seen that too) - isn't helping anyone and it makes you look unhinged and weirdly alienates not only the driver but their loved ones. YES, they knew it exists, it is EVERYWHERE. but shoving it in their faces doesn't help. and you're never going to get the confirmation because there is a high chance that their not even queer to begin with. and if they are, NOT OUR CONCERN
i don't have a problem writing or consuming rpf, it is not a crime nor do i think it should be stopped. like HAVE FUN. but you have to realize that it's not like debating star wars or marvel or whatever other piece of fictional media. formula one is REAL, they are not actors. they are athletes, and unless you want all rpf to be shut down some how. i suggest the likes of some of ya'll need to understand that there are different boundaries. and respect them.
i know they're all millionaires, but they still breathe and bleed as a friend of mine once said. it's fun to put them in little scenarios in fanworks, but just keep it out of their direct attention. there are unspoken boundaries, that some of ya'll need have said to you apparently.
asking oscar issac if he THINKS that finnpoe is real is VERY different than asking someone's sister if she thinks her REAL LIFE BROTHER is fucking his REAL LIFE TEAMMATE. - people's relationships have turned to ash over insistent rpf in their faces all the time.
my advice at the end of the day is: have fun, don't write or draw it because you want confirmation that it's a real relationship. write or draw it because you're having fun. fandom is about making friends and shipping in whatever context is about finding a slice of community on the vast internet, not cracking the code of if it is a real relationship. - bunny.

Kpop ship for K anon
Hi everyone! It’s nearly been a week since I’ve posted and I apologize, between work and family, things get crazy! I have a ship for an anon who goes by ‘K’, so K, I hope you’re reading, and let’s get into it!
Based off of your request, I gathered these things about you:
You’re 5′6
You’re Asian American
You have long and wavy brown hair that has an ombre effect
Your fashion style is soft grunge
Virgo and ISFJ personality
You can be introverted and sensitive at first, but you can be talkative and loyal when you’re comfortable
You like: nature, traveling, learning other cultures, going to concerts, watching Netflix in bed, and eating
And in your request, you asked to be shipped with BTS, EXO, NCT, and Seventeen! This is gonna be long so please, sit back, grab a drink, and let’s get shipping!  P.S- I kinda started using the nicknames I gave the idols, can’t help it lol
BTS: Jin
I wanna start by saying that I love this ship because it is so sweet. You two would take good care of each other, having each other backs 24/7 and you’re always there for each other. Not to mention that you two would have so much admiration for each other, and it’s one of the sweetest things ever. At first, you two would be equally as shy to each other but as time would go by, you would become more comfortable with each other. I can also see that you two would bring out the best in one another. You two would push each other to be your best, and you’d live your best life. I like to think you two would be like ying and yang. Then I’d also like to think that you two would be a cute balance of black and white. I’m merely saying this from your differing clothing styles, but it’s still a cute thought. You would be Jin’s little grunge babe. He would appreciate that you wouldn’t want to go with the flow of normal trends and you’d always looks cute no matter what you wore tbh. Jin would also be that boyfriend that would LOVE to talk about you to everyone he’s around. There isn’t a part of Jin that he wouldn’t admire about you. From the way you would ramble about something or express your excitement, Jin would think it would be the cutest thing ever and he would always tell his friends, the members, or his family about how cute and precious you are, and how you have amazing ideas and how creative you can be. Moving on to talking about date night, your date nights would always revolve around food. Whether it be ordering in or actually going out to a restaurant, date night is always about food and you two having a good time. And listen, let’s say Jin is an idol in this scenario. When he would do an episode of “Eat Jin” your date nights would be a live stream for “Eat Jin”. Now, you wouldn’t do this every date night because you wouldn’t want every date night to be out to the public, but it would a fun thing to do every once in a while and answer fans questions! Also, I can see you and Jin being one of those couples that enjoy to stay inside and spend time together. You two would have the cutest little city apartment with a balcony where you’d have a little fire pit, and you’d hang out there all the time. You and Jin would appreciate you time, as life can be so busy and there’s nothing better than spending time with your S/o. I also think that Jin would straight up prefer to have you to himself and neither one of you would mind that. You’re wrapped around each others pinkies- and that’s totally okay!
Tumblr media
EXO: Yixing
Again, this is another sweet ship that I am living for! I think that you and Yixing would really hit it off due to the similarities in your personalities and your interests. You two would be that it couple that everyone dreams to be. Talking about some things in your relationship, dancing and concerts would be your thing. Imagine you two making a simple choreo together and not only did you two work amazingly together, but you two actually give feeling and life to the dance. Like if you two were to post the dance on YouTube or Instagram, EVERYONE would be able to see the love that you two would have in your eyes and by the moves of your bodies. It would be like one like no other. Now, moving on to concerts, concert tickets would always be a surprise thing because you’re young and only live once. With your favorite flowers in one hand and the tickets in the other, Xing would love to surprise you with tickets. He’s the type of boyfriend that will get you the tickets for you and him, or even for you and a friend. The tickets can range from your fav groups, to his favorite groups. Hell, there would even be a new artist that you two would discover together and seeing that artist would be a perfect experience for you both. Going to a concert is a perfect way to spend a weekend or part of a week, so I can see you and Xing coming up with different ways that you could make a mini trip out of it. Traveling around your area and going to new places is always a wonderful idea, and you two would make so many memories together, it would never get old. With the amount of attention that you two would have going towards your relationship, I would say Xing would prefer to have your relationship stay a secret and offline. Of course you wouldn’t stay completely isolated from the public and there would be the occasional Instagram picture every now and then, but you two would prefer to have your relationship a secret, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Moving on, I think this is an interesting observation on Yixing’s part. I think that Yixing is a very curious person and he is willing to try anything once. So, do not be surprised if Yixing starts taking an interest in soft grungy style. He would high-key love to help pick out clothes for you and dress you, and he would totally want you to help dress him. He’d think it would be awesome to try and couple-style. I also wanna hit on date night super quick. Yixing has connections everywhere, so you best believe that you and Xing are going to have a great date night. Be prepared for a lot of great food, and also be prepared for a wonderful night with an angel, because he’s going to treat you like a queen.
Tumblr media
NCT: Mark
Moving right along, we’re going to move onto some more wild child, what I like to call all around type of relationships. Mr. Lee here is your all around type of guy, and it’s really hard not to love him. By the way, you will have to protect him. I think that you two would go great together because I think you two would give positive energy to each other and you would always strive to get into each others interest. It wouldn’t be hard to be comfortable around Mark tbh, and since Mark is a literal puppy, he would know when to dial down just enough so you wouldn’t get too overwhelmed. You two are like two peas in a pod, so cute! You two could equally be a wild and mild couple. Both you and him would have a lot going on at times and you would have your life together and then you would have your lives separated. As much as you two would enjoy going your own thing, there are those weeks where you really want to focus on your relationship and staying in the dorm away from people and watching Netflix or listening to music can help you two out tremendously. You two would be that type of couple that would snuggle up together and watch a show together. Then when one of you would be busy and you’d be alone, you’d watch an episode..or four without the other and get caught. The silly betrayal would be precious to me, I don’t know why. And then, as a past time, I think it would be super cute if you and Mark would start studying a language together, and you’d also study the country that went along with your language. The process of learning the language together would be a fun project to work on together, and you two would always keep yourselves motivated to study and get better, and you two would also practice with each other, so you’re really killing two birds with one stone. #innovation am I right? lol. I wanna go back for 2.5 to when you two would meet my notes are a mess, sorry. I can see Mark being a little nervous bean when he would want to approach you for the first time. He would be worried that you would have the “don’t f*ck with me” type of attitude, but when you would show your true colors to him, this bean would melt like putty from your attention and he would easily become a love sick puppy for you. By the way, you two would stand up for each other so amazingly. I’ll just say that if anyone were to come for Mark and slander him on the internet, you would shut that shit down so fast and you’d have the best clap back ever. Your protective and defensive nature would send Mark in heart eyes mode, and he would admire the loyalty that you would give him.
Tumblr media
Seventeen: Seungcheol
Okay, last but not least, this may be one of my favorite ships so far. I was a little unsure about which member to ship you with, but Coups hit me in the face like “PICK ME PICK ME” and here we are. You two have so much balance and you are his princess or prince if you happen to be a boy/different pronoun. Coups would be the bEST boyfriend ever when would come to surprises. I know I used the surprise card with Yixing earlier, but listen, his surprises go further than concert tickets. Coups would really want to keep the element of surprise alive in your relationship- it’s always a great idea to keep you on your toes. Coups would always surprise you with the best date nights(if it wasn’t your turn to plan date night) from dinner dates to a simple night alone in the dorm. Bringing you roses and your favorite flower would be his specialty, as he would always when know to surprise you if you would be having a rough week. Also, good morning and good night texts are always a MUSt with this man, so you never have to worry about him not showing love. He is a wonderful person without being in a relationship, so just imagine him in a relationship. Which I also want to add this because I think it’s precious. Coups would love to hear about the dreams and ideas you would have for trips and date nights. He wouldn’t take all the ideas, just so he doesn’t hog the relationship, but he would love to take the ideas you would have and transform them into reality. Coups would always pull strings and set up amazing dates for you. There is one particular date I would like to talk about for an example. You would have this idea of visiting a national forest of sorts to see what all nature has to bring, and Cheol would make a weekend date out of it. Going to the local wildlife zoo, going on hikes and walks, and even going as far as camping, would be on your agenda for the weekend. Being together and out in nature, and most importantly- making you happy would be the main goals for the weekend. Having some Healing time(HAH, get it?) would also be on that agenda, and you two would get to learn so much about each other, and you would bond and fall even more in love with each other. Very lastly, I want to touch on PDA. Out of all the boys I have shipped you with, I think that Coups would have the most PDA with you. Coups would be in love with you and he is not afraid to show it. Coups would always want to post cute little pictures of you together on Instagram. Then forehead kisses and back hugs are also his thing. And most importantly, he would always have his hand connected to yours.

Ask: Reply - 2021.03.25
Time to go through some of your asks! I am glad you seemed to like the new format and I’ll keep it up for now. (If you have any suggestions for improvement feel free to comment.) I got a lot this time and with pretty varying topics, so it took a while for me to write this even if it still seems pretty sloppy. I also got two asks I just answer briefly but didn’t want to include due to the topics. Anyways, let’s get to it. :)
Topics:
Ask 1 - Anon share about shipping Ji/hope and becoming a Vminie Ask 2 - Reasons to ship Vmin and no leaks of a relationship (+ rumors ask) Ask 3 - Stress over my analysis “making people delusional” Ask 4 - Tae/kook and Ji/kook being big ships (+t/k shippers ask) Ask 5 - Not enjoying a bond because of it’s shippers Ask 6 - Vmin videocall while getting make-up. Ask 7 - Vmin shaking hands Ask 8 - Wheesa from Mamamoo Ask 9 - Any wholesome fic recs?
Tumblr media
(I got a few more left, but the post was getting long, so I’ll save them for next time. I promise I’ll answer them in my next ask post.)
Ask 1 - Anon share about shipping Ji/hope and becoming a Vminie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi and thank you for sharing your story, I always find it interesting to read how people found their way to Vmin and in particular if they shipped something else first. Don’t worry about it being long, it was a fun read. :)
I see what you mean with there being “something about Jimin” and I actually think he is so shippable with all BTS members. He truly works so well and is so sweet and cute with all of them. I also think Ji/hope (as many hyung x maknae line ships) is a very underrated ship. And they used to be very big on the fanservice on stage in the early years too so they definitely have some “questionable moments” in that sense as well.
I think the way Jimin express his love for all his members is amazing and has probably lead to all of them expressing their love a lot more opnely. Think of how Jimin started their tradition of giving gifts for their birthdays for example. Honestly, all BTS ships are good ships but I really think Jimin’s way of being so openly affectionate just makes all his ships very soft and full of love. But yes, more love to Ji/hope please, because they have a lot of great moments.
It’s interesting how you say you were affected by the platonic label Vmin has. I really think it’s very strong and works very well on a majority of the fandom and on most people that don’t dig a bit deeper and question what Vmin have actually done. That being said, a lot of the surface level things for all ships are great, and I do think you really have to deep dive into a ship to get the more actually questionable moments a lot of the time. And I think with Vmin this hasn’t been done so much, so people might be surprised when they actually do look closer.
I also like how the lipstick moment and the kissing the doll moments made you end up questioning Vmin. For me who has looked at Vmin for so long these were just more examples of things I had already seen, but I am sure many newer fans (just like you did) would react and look twice at these moments. I’ll tell you though, these moments are just barely scratching the surface of questionable things that Vmin have done.
I am glad you like my blog and think the things I say makes sense, though I do want to be clear and say it’s just me guessing and making theories. I am glad they make sense, but I could still be wrong. :P Thank you again for sharing your own story, and I hope you will keep on enjoying Vmin and my blog. <3
Ask 2 - Reasons to ship Vmin and no leaks of a relationship (rumors)
Tumblr media
I mean, I think I have shared my reasons to ship Vmin in pretty much every post I have ever done on this blog. There’s a lot of them after all... But if you haven’t already I would suggest checking out my posts 10 Reasons to ship Vmin and 10 more reasons to ship Vmin.
I stress the point that Vmin could easily be platonic but simply extremely close all the time as well, so we could definitely be reading too much into things. Of course this goes for all shippers (or rather believers, there is a difference after all). I suspect your question might not be about shipping but rather if Vmin could be real and what reasons I might have to think that is possible. You can check my post Shipping vs Believing if you want to know how I view things very differently when it comes to simply shipping and anything that goes beyond shipping).
As for what makes Vmin stand out as more likely compared to other ships I guess the main things I take into account are: The songs, Vmin being careful (including friendzoning and other members’ reactions to them), their sometimes contradicting behavior (like them being soulmates but seemingly being awkward with some things or not being together as much as we might expect etc.), the way they do some very romantic looking things and have increased those behaviors over time and then just a lot of interesting moments and their close relationship in general. Also, soulmates is not a label to underestimate.
As for leaks I think you have to ask the same question for all idols, and all relationships. I mean, how many leaks of any BTS relationship have we gotten? I don’t think the guys have lived in celibate for their whole careers. Not to mention a lot of idols date secretly, and for LGBT+ idols I am sure they would be even more careful. But at the same time people also would likely be less suspicious unless they do something very obvious. I mean, think of all the things we have seen BTS do openly. I also think we have to remember that if it’s something that the fans doesn’t want to know or believe it also is less likely to get spread. For example that an idol they love would be LGBT+... because heteronormativity and homophobia is not to be taken lightly either. I also think you underestimate how many secrets insiders in all entertainment industries are keeping. I am sure many idols are pretty open with their dating to many, but it doesn’t get spread because there is a risk with being the whistle blower as well. Perhaps in particular with exposing someone’s sexuality which could ruin their whole career... And any person trying to ruin BTS’s reputation at this point might honestly get lynched by all of Korea.
I also know some rumors (not about sexuality) even gets pushed away as spread by antis etc. So sometimes even when rumors leak they get shut down. In the end there are a lot of rumors floating around, many that contradict each other as well, but I don’t think lack of rumors has to mean it is impossible for it to be happening. Again, many in the LGBT+ community aren’t even out to their own family and manages to hide that... We don’t know enough about how two members in a relationship would be or how open they would be to begin with. I suspect in the case of Vmin they would be very careful and only a select few would know.
There could also be leaks, but they don’t reach the mainstream fandom. Like how I learned about the problems and disbandment talk back in the summer of 2018. Some things definitely do get leaked, but it is also very difficult to know if they are real or not until confirmed.
But I do think if a couple is real and they are pretty open with it, eventually they would either be in an obvious glass closet or there would be rumors or even confirmation. Because if a couple isn’t careful to begin with then they clearly risk exposure and likely wouldn’t mind too much to be outed.
It’s definitely a complicated topic, and a whole world we as fans don’t know enough about to even come to any real conclusions. So don’t worry about not knowing, it’s not like we as outsider can easily know how things work as they are likely even different for each company, group, couple, individual etc.
I also want to adress one ask I got but won’t include, about a particular sasaeng rumor ((part of ask: there was news going around by saesung (idk if I spelled it right sorry)...)). I only have two things to say, because I don’t want to spread any of these rumors or want any of you to look for these things.
1. Rumors are rumors, we have no idea what sources they come from and many times they also contradict each other. Often they can be spread by antis of some kind with an agenda to hurt or worry. It’s better to simply pay them no attention most of the time.
2. If the rumors are ridiculous in nature, as the one you asked about, it’s even better to not spread it further. In this case it would go against the personalities of the members and against their own words. It would mean BTS lied to us straight to our faces about something there is no reason to lie about, and thus doesn’t have any reason to happen to begin with. Be open of course, but also think critically. Don’t worry in vain, just try to ignore stuff like this.
Ask 3 - Stress over my analysis “making people delusional”
Tumblr media
Thank you a lot @phantomavenger, your message really soothes me. This is a dilemma I’ve struggled with a lot over the years actually. If sharing stuff and theories about Vmin might not be good, no matter if I am right or wrong. Because if Vmin are together I am basically working to exposing them against their will and if I am wrong I might be a factor in people believing in something that isn’t real, which might end up hurting them.
I usually end up thinking that maybe it’s better for things to come from me with a more nuanced take than that someone else finds it and it spreads in a more uncontrolled and delusional way right away. If that makes sense? I know this might sound very conceited, but since I know my words are being spread I at least hope to make people understand the importance of not jumping to conclusions and sounding too sure of anything we don’t really know. Again, a lot of ships have believers, and that says something. We should all be careful both for our own sake and for the privacy of the boys. Normalizing delusional behavior is what usually leads to worse and worse things being done “in the name of the ship” as well and I just don’t want that from Vminies. The trickle down effect of people misunderstanding or twisting my words is also a bit scary.  There are also so many shipper at this point that I think most things I point out will eventually likely be pointed out or noticed by someone else anyway, so...
But you are right, I can’t take responsibility for people taking my things out of context or getting convinced even though I try to tell them not to. In the end I write analysis on Vmin because I don’t think anything I find is enough to actually prove anything (this goes for all ships btw). I’ll share my analysis and with it I will also have many reasons on why shipping real people and “knowing a ship is real” is so much more difficult than many seem to think.
Here’s a sneak peak in case anyone is interested.
Tumblr media
Don’t worry, I’ll try to edit it and make it more concise. Thank you again for your kind words and reassurance. :)
Ask 4 - Tae/kook and Ji/kook being big ships
Tumblr media
Hi, and wecome to the fandom! I hope you will enjoy being an ARMY and keep liking Vmin. :3
I answered recently about big ships (Ask: Reply - 2021.03.18 Ask 3 - What makes a ship big?) and I’ve talked about popularity regarding these certain ships before as well in Why do you think Vmin get so brozoned by the fandom?
First I would like to say that “vibes” to me doesn’t really say much... All shippers clearly have their own perception of the members and their dynamics, otherwise everyone would ship the same thing. That being said I think projecting is part of many shippers’ reasons to ship and definitely think it’s part in why JK ships in general are very popular. Not just within BTS but for straight ships as well.
I don’t think there is ever one simple reason for why someone ships something, and same for why they might think a pair is actually together. Me might all have our own reasons for why we like a certain ship. For me all ships in BTS have good enough chemistry and dynamics to be shipped and I don’t think there is anything weird with those ships being popular. Especially since they’ve basically been popular since the start for their own reasons and then simply kept growing.
In short I think these things might play a big part in why some ships get bigger than others:
1. Projecting and falling for a ship similar to your own preference in a relationship 2. Amount of moments, and type of moments. 3. Type of relationship and the fandom view. Some dynamics will draw people in more even if it’s only percieved dynamics and stereotyping. Sexual tension and complicated drama is more “fun” than “friends to lovers” trope. 4. How popular they are. Big ships will grow bigger faster. More exposure and material by fans might make people find big ships easier. 5. Room for analysis. Honestly, if a ship seems “complicated” it might be more interesting to dig deeper into. So when people see analysis of ji/kook or tae/kook they get interested and might get more involved. Basically if analysis are being made it will make people more invested, and for Vmin it’s not that people can’t analyze them, but rather that not many have. So you won’t find as many fans deep diving and looking harder at Vmin compared to many other ships.
Again, ships might be popular for many different reasons, but I don’t think size of a ship really is that important. Just ship and let others ship what they like as well.
I also want to briefly adress an ask I got but that I won’t post, because I got yet another ask about Tae/kook. I’m sorry I won’t include the ask but I definitely agree with your comment to “Look at V as an individual person, not part of a ship”. This should be obvious and apply for all shippers.
But I do want to say that I don’t think shipping a particular pair is the problem, it’s how you do it. I personally see no problem with shipping anything as long as it only is shipping, which is a fantasy. I ship Chen x Baekhyun from EXO and Chen is married... I simply enjoy their dynamic as a fantasy. Just like how I enjoy characters in a book or movie I am aware it isn’t real. I mostly see shipping as a problem when you let it affect how you behave towards people with different opinions or if you push it onto the people themselves which is never ok (even if it would be real). Of course there are many examples of shippers taking things too far, but I don’t think the ship in itself is the problem, but again what those shippers might do. So yeah, I condone any shipper who crosses the line and push things onto the members, but I don’t think shipping in itself is bad.
Ask 5 - Not enjoying a bond because of it’s shippers
Tumblr media
Hi, and first of all I am sorry you are feeling like this. I think sadly this is quite a common problem, and I am not sure I have any good answers for you. But I’ll try. I do recognize this feeling though I have mostly felt it in other fandoms where shippers of “rival” ships got me so annoyed it was difficult to not just see the shippers’ reactions every time they had a moment. Which made it less fun and sometimes hard to enjoy their moments even though I would have usually. What I did in that case was actually stop engaging in the fandom all together for a while, to take a step back as many of my own fellow shippers’ negativity about the other shippers and their theories affected me as well (btw this was a fictional ship so it’s quite different in many ways).
It’s sad when shipping affect us this much, but it can be hard when we invest so much time and get so much enjoyment out of it. I am not sure how bad you feel, but I think when you feel conflicted (possibly cognitive dissonance) when coming across ji/kook content it might have gone a bit too far (I talk about it a bit in this post) and be too attached to the idea of your own ship. If so you might want to consider taking a step back and engage with the fandom less and just focus on enjoying the actual content we get. If you simply react due to shippers and don’t actually care if ji/kook are happy together (or even would be real) I would simply suggest trying to stay away from those people. Sadly over analyzing the members happens a lot and will likely not stop anytime soon. I know it’s not that easy, but I don’t really have any better advice. Try to find places you can be while feeling happy, or take a break if you have to. Distance and time might help at times and I know many people who take breaks from their fandoms when they get too much for them and they get less enjoyment from being part of the community.
For me I did also have a period when looking at Ji/kook made me a bit annoyed or even sad. It was during a period when I was extra sensitive and wasn’t feeling very good so even small things affected me more than they should. But it had less to do with Ji/kook and more to do with consuming very toxic narratives from Ji/kook shippers that basically included Vmin being fake or played up. The idea of Vmin being fake hurts me much more than any other ship being real. Consuming a lot of quite toxic Ji/kook theories made me think Ji/kook being real would equal Vmin being fake and thus seeing Ji/kook hurt a bit.
What worked for me was realizing that this narrative makes no actual sense and there is no point in me worrying about Vmin being fake. And if they would be I know my reaction would simply be to walk away as I wouldn’t enjoy BTS if they lie about things there is no reason to lie about. This took away the feeling of being insecure, and I can be happy with just knowing Vmin are soulmates, no matter what kind.
I also stopped looking up analysis of other ships and simply keep in mind that even if other ships are real it doesn’t change the bond between Vmin. I know enough about other ships to see their weird moments and to know I shouldn’t be certain about my own ship. I can also see what other shippers might see in a moment on my own at this point, so I do see how seeing moments might make you just think of what theories it might lead to. For me it was about changing my own mindset about other ships vs Vmin and to simply not consume content that was toxic or made me feel bad. Basically, even if Ji/kook or any other ship would be real it wouldn’t bother me as I know what Vmin has is still incredibly special and genuine.
To me this worked, but every person has their own limits. I would suggest backing off from consuming shipping content and simply look at how much the actual content shows the love between the boys. And also if possible try to get with the idea that even if another ship is real, that isn’t neccessarily bad. I would be happy for any ship if it was real at this point as long as they make each other happy, and I don’t feel threatened by other ships because of it.
As for shippers being bad or toxic, sadly with size and confidence it seems to happen a lot. I simply don’t bother with antis or over analyzing shippers of any kind that put very negative narratives on the boys. I know there will always be some bad ones in all bigger fandoms, so I try to not let it affect me too much. In fact I feel more hurt when my own ship communities engage in toxic behavior as that is harder to ignore and walk away from.
Thank you for sharing your struggles and I hope I could help maybe even a little. I know it’s not easy and as you say the guilt is also hard to deal with. I know I might have strayed away from your actual issue, but it’s a very difficult topic for me too. But at least your worry shows you truly do care for the members and don’t want to see them in a negative light. Just try to do what you need to do to feel better, even if it might be hard to do. Also thank you so much for liking my blog. <3
Ask 6 - Vmin videocall while getting make-up.
Tumblr media
I am going to be frank here, this is a moment where fans most likely saw incorrectly and then some still spread it as a Vmin moment. I know people debated about it when it happened and I am sure people still have different opinions on it. But for me since it seems pretty clear the screen corresponds with how Tae moves the phone and takes a picture of himself. I think it was on selfie mode, not that it was a video call. This image I found might be edited because it look very much like Jimin, but it could also be accidental that this screenshot really really looked like him. I know it really looks like Jimin and the paleness of the screen makes it difficult to know... But if you watch the video in it’s original size and quality you see it’s Tae pretty clearly.
Tumblr media
The video is  [BANGTAN BOMB] Jin's Sunglasses Collection in Hong Kong - BTS (방탄소년단). You can watch it around 2.10. Sorry for bursting the bubble. But hey, at least we know Vmin actually do facetime each other despite how much they see each other. :)
Ask 7 - Vmin and shaking hands
Tumblr media
Vmin really are extra with the shaking (and holding/touching) hands, aren’t they? To be fair I think they do this quite a lot with other members as well, but it’s still definitely a Vmin thing. ;)
Tumblr media
As for Brooklyn 99 I have watched clips, but not the full show, so I know who Holt and Kevin are... But I didn’t know they did that. That’s really sweet. Though obviously it sucks they can’t just be like any other couple and would have to make hand shaking their public display of affection (though I suppose it could just be their personalities as well? Like I said I don’t know the show too well.)
Funny but I actually wrote a little drabble Vmin part of something similar at one point... Though it wasn’t about shaking hands but instead fist bumps, as Vmin was doing that a lot at that time. I just find the idea of Vmin making anything normal into something cute and intimate, like an inside joke, very endearing. Thank you for sharing. :)
Ask 8 - Wheesa from Mamamoo
Tumblr media
Thank you for sharing this cute moment. :) I really do like Mamamoo and from the few moments I have seen with them they seem really sweet with each other. Also I love Twit, it’s such a bop!
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Vmin followed suit and Jimin appears in Tae’s MV for KTH1? :3
Ask 9 - Any wholesome fic recs?
Tumblr media
Hi and thank you for your kind words. :3 English isn’t my native language and I struggle with being articulate sometimes, so your comment makes me really happy. :)
As for fics I am sorry, I have two big fic recs and I feel most of my favorites are included in those. (Huge Vmin fic rec and Vmin fic rec - Canon compliant) I know they don’t have any indications of rating etc. but for now looking through these lists to check if they fit what you like is what I have. If anyone has any particularly wholesome BTS fics to rec feel free to add them in the replies. :) Thank you and sorry for not coming with any actual recs in this reply.
And that will conclude this post as it was starting to get a little long. :) I do have some asks left, and I’ll try to answer them as soon as I can with my next post. Thank you all for your interesting questions and shared stories. I hope you found this post enjoyable, or at least worth a read, as it included some pretty heavy topics.

I’m new to BTS, and I’m in love with their music and how beautiful and amazing these boys are … but… BUT the fandom??!!!!! This is too much honestly . People thinking these grown men in their late 20s are either virgins , gay men or the Cherry on top, they’re OBVIOUSLY dating each other , meanwhile no one knows them personally to talk about their sexual preferences as it’s a known thing . JK , Jim in and Tae are the most attractive so of course they’re dating each other , taking turns or something. Shippers act like they know for a fact that JK ( poor guy he’s been shipped with everyone at this point ) is definitely dating Jimin ( I mean if they do that’s ok) but to present your opinion as facts ?!!!!!!! And then send death treats to anyone who disagrees with you? That’s way too much . Far too many army’s act like if you don’t like every single thing the boys do you’re not a real fan… sorry but that’s impossible to understand. I tried to stay out of any discussion with the majority of their fans cause it’s simply too much , they make you not want to ever talk about BTS (online I mean )
Anon, I hear you, but what I like to do on this blog is to try and not see everything in black and white because a lot of the things you mention are not as simple as it may look.
What I want to say from the start is that yes, turning opinions into facts is something that shouldn't be done, but this is not something that is inherent to the Army fandom, but this is how people in general act on the internet. They even make up sources and they probably spend 24/7 coming up with bullshit trying to convince others that they have the answers.
But moving on from that, it shouldn't come as a surprise that fans speculate about the lives of the people they have taken an interest in. This doesn't happen just with K-Pop idols, but with celebrities in general. Of course, it's different in K-Pop due to the fact that dating/personal life is not something that is publicly discussed that much. It has to do with privacy (who wants their personal business to be debated in public), but it's also because at some level, it helps maintain a certain fantasy about the idol. I've written about this before, how they are a sort of blank canvas on which people can project their feelings onto them. And we're not talking just about the aspects you mentioned, but a variety of them. I know I see daily some tweet in the form of ''X can do no harm'', ''Y is a cute innocent baby boy'' and all that.
As to what you specifically mentioned, ''People thinking these grown men in their late 20s are either virgins , gay men or the Cherry on top, they’re OBVIOUSLY dating each other , meanwhile no one knows them personally to talk about their sexual preferences as it’s a known thing'', there are several reasons why people speculate and write about these things and just judging them for it it's not the way to go. Of course we don't know their private lives, but people can make some guesses and assumptions usually based on their own life experiences. Someone who is probably really young and who thinks of their idol as the perfect imaginary boyfriend who will one day become their spouse (which is a perfectly normal early teenager fantasy) will not necessarily want to think in detail about their bias as a sexual being. On top of that perhaps there is a lack of sexual education, a fear of talking about sex (which is more prevalent today). As to fans thinking BTS members are gay (all of them or only some specific members), again, we can't just judge them for doing that. Yes there are those who like to call BTS ''fruity'' as a joke who would probably act all distressed if they would ever find out that (at least) one of them is gay, but not everyone is like that. This is not really another case of blank canvas (although it fits when it comes to the lack of specifics about personal lives), as there are fans who reach certain conclusions based on years of content, what the idol has said and done. The general assumption is that people are straight, but so what if one believes the idol is gay? There is nothing wrong with it. They think, they believe and what is the harm at the end of the day? The fans and the idols are more separated than what people think. Fans are a separate community and they make their own rules, influenced by their own beliefs and ideologies. About the last aspect, thinking that they're dating each other, I've written about this before, but I'll make a short summary. BTS is a homosocial brand in which the majority of the time we see them together, without involvement from outside people. Most of the time, it's just them. So fans, shippers work with what they have, which is the content that is released. They see close relationships, some more than others. There are countless reasons why fans ship taekook or jikook (I'm only mentioning these two ships because you brought it up, but there are others as well) and I'm not getting into that now.
Lastly, I understand your reaction and not wanting to talk about BTS online. So many times and in so many spaces there's no place for mature conversations, nuance, respecting one's opinion, etc. And when you see death threads, it kind of makes you want to not touch that with a 10 feet pole.

What do you think about ji and moon? they seen together alot and I feel like ji try to ship himself with him? Don't get me wrong but I think this is why ksoo solo stan think ji using ksoo for cloud, ji make himself ship-able (idk is this word really exist, but I use it anyway) to anyone. He even call him his wife, they went to support suh0 together, and all those selca he posted. Please enlighten meeee
Hey anon.
So, idk if you’re a new EX0 fan or not (just in case) but M00nkyu is a well known figure on the fandom. He was a SM trainee close to debut on the group. Besides that he was close with many people at the company including Taemin, Sehun and Jongin himself, being his schoolmate and one of his best friends. There’s a lot of pictures of them together and I won’t include them here simply because you can easily find online.
That means that, the fact they appear together a lot lately, just shows their friendship is strong since it lasted until now.
I really disagree with the “J0ngin making himself shippable with anyone” narrative because there were moments, especially when the group was young, he expressed how uncomfortable he felt with some skinship. The times he mentioned KS were more during 2013 for example, a period where KS wouldn’t need special boost so he could promote himself. Like, why? He was one of the most promoted members since debut and KS didn’t even was famous as an actor yet.  It just shows how inconsistent things are to the point it raises heads. Because, if the otp was made for promotion purposes only, JI would not only mention KS but be allowed to appear with him constantly. For an otp to appear too much, it needs to be approved in terms of appearing together in public. When the public starts to notice a closure between two people, they start to ship (and we know sometimes things don’t need to go that far). KD was the opposite because they were already close to each other after debut and people who shipped them were strong enough to make them last. It wasn’t his company’s doing.
JI mentions KS sometimes but most of the time there’s no purpose of promoting himself over his image. The few mentions happens during the army, or especially during the pre 2016 era or just to show how awkward they are (like when JI mentions KS and some members interrupt him saying how forced everything was). In none of those cases is his “goal” to promote himsekf using KS and this argument is stupid.
What I think is that JI got used with shipping culture and gets along with it when it’s needed (I won’t use examples, y’all can take your own conclusions). With M00nkyu tho, you may even think this way. But the group didn’t have a comeback since 2018 and he doesn’t do relevant activities solo. And how will JI promote himself with someone who has less notoriety than him? It could be the other way around but there’s not even acitivites to justify a boost of attention caused by this otp or something like that.
So I think the fact they’re close is simply because they’re friends. Maybe mixed with JI testing waters using sentences that would distance himself from his womanizer persona (I want to marry X, my mom thinks Y is my gf, we look like a couple walking down the Han river). Or it simply doesn’t need a reason. K-pop culture can be really toxic, especially with shipping. Those insecurities, trust issues because an idol doesn’t say or react the way people want him to. The person starts to become a villain, a myth because of projections. But they’re human too. They have family, friends, feelings and people to rely on. And there’s nothing wrong if one of this people is M00nkyu or anyone else.
Idk if I was able to enlight you at all, but that’s why 2 cents anyway.

South Korean music industry at a glance: an outsider perspective
I watched one particular AMV last week. The song used for the video was “I’m afraid” by Korean rock band DAY6. I was pleasantly surprised as someone who values lyrics in song first and foremost. The music itself was great. I’ll listen to their songs again. It’s a nice fit for my music taste. Naturally, YouTube’s algorithm decided that I’m a fan of everything Korean after 1 video and started spamming my recommendations with k-pop songs, documentaries and everything in-between.
I watched a couple of videos, listened to some songs and discovered fascinating patterns. So, I went down to the comment section. And it was rather interesting experience, should I say? The concept of entertainment industry in South Korea simply begged to be explored more after this. I dug deeper and visited Tumblr k-pop tags and briefly glanced upon Instagram and Twitter. And, oh...
I am a big picture person and I enjoy both studying and creating systems. This one was particularly fun to explore. I discovered a lot of new things for myself. Perhaps, you can discover something new for yourself too or take a step back and look at this from a new angle.
Disclaimer: it’s impossible not to offend someone on Tumblr, so keep that in mind. That being said, I do NOT intend to insult of offend anyone. It’s just a little research done for fun, because I love research with a purpose. This post is NOT A HATE post. No hate intended for fans, artists or other people involved. It’s meant to be a discussion, nothing more and nothing less. If it sounds like hate, it’s just my sarcastic sense of humour.
Content Warning: I mention suicide, death, depression, rape in a couple of sentences. There’s nothing major or graphic, but it’s there.
In this long post I decided to share with you my opinion, a so-called outsider perspective, on the world of music entertainment industry in South Korea and people involved in it on different levels. I use the word “outsider” mainly because, that’s exactly what I am in this case, as someone who is in no way involved in k-pop community. I can’t name you a single band or their members. I don’t know any solo artist and can’t neither sing nor name you any song.
And to be completely honest, I don’t think I will set my foot into k-pop fan-circles ever again after everything I saw.
Think of this as “In this essay I will...” meme, except there’s an actual essay.
As far as I know, in South Korea “k-pop” refers to all music produced in SK, including solo artists, various bands, singers-songwriters. It doesn’t even have to be pop music. Koreans include in this definition all genres of music. However, around the world “k-pop” means primarily music made by idol groups and bands marketed for children, teenagers and younger people. In this post I use the latter definition, because that’s how most people understand “k-pop” in other countries. Therefore, my statements, opinions and conclusions here would concern only idol music.
The music industry in South Korea is heavily influenced by culture and traditions of the country, just like all things are. And there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, different backgrounds are what makes people so interesting and unique. However, when combined with consumer mindset, desire to generate profit at any cost and fast-paced nature of modern life these neutral cultural elements could produce something concerning, and it can lead to disastrous consequences.
1. Idol
These people are called artists, musicians, singers, bands, groups, performers. In South Korea and in Japan, however, people call them Idols or Stars. I’ve also seen Muses, Princes and Queens. Interesting, isn’t it? The terminology used to describe these musicians in South Korea is one of the key elements in this whole entertainment system. You’ll see why.
But who or what is an idol exactly? Let’s take a basic definition from Wikipedia.
“In the practice of religion, a cult image or devotional image is a human-made object that is venerated or worshipped for the deity, person, spirit or daemon ... that it embodies or represents. In several traditions, including the ancient religions of Egypt, Greece and Rome, and modern Hinduism, cult images in a temple may undergo a daily routine of being washed, dressed, and having food left for them. Processions outside the temple on special feast days are often a feature. Religious images cover a wider range of all types of images made with a religious purpose, subject, or connection. In many contexts "cult image" specifically means the most important image in a temple, kept in an inner space, as opposed to what may be many other images decorating the temple.
The term idol is often synonymous with worship cult image. In cultures where idolatry is not viewed negatively, the word idol is not generally seen as pejorative, such as in Indian English.”
Cambridge Dictionary defines idol as follows:
Tumblr media
And here’s the definition from Oxford Dictionary:
Tumblr media
This is a centrepiece of this tapestry. Surely, you have noticed by now what these definitions have in common.
Idol = a cult image of a god, a deity
By calling these musicians “idols” industry makes society and audience treat them in certain way, namely as gods. What characteristics do gods possess? They are beautiful, talented, funny, confident and graceful, blessed by eternal youth of immortality. Gods have no flaws, they do not bleed, they are above human concerns. They are an embodiment of perfection. They are stars, you could not reach.
But real people are not like that. They can be sad and angry, insecure. People don’t have perfectly symmetrical faces. They can’t dance in sync without preparation. They can’t sing like angels at any given moment throughout the day.
What happens when idols accidentally reveal their humanity? What happens when people see, that they make mistakes and do stupid things, that they need to train hard to appear graceful on stage?
I will tell you. And it’s not pretty. But, first, let’s look at other elements of this system.
2. Y/N and Self-insert fantasy
Aside from the music, K-pop sells the self-insert fantasy to the audience. It’s carefully arranged to appear real, where the cracks are masked and every word is scripted. The reality is so vivid that one doesn’t even have to use imagination all that much, because all scenarios and decorations already exist. Countless interviews for TV and magazines, fan meetings, talk shows, reality shows made sure people are privy to all juicy details of personal lives and opinions of musicians. And also one word - merchandise. Some of that merch made me question my life choices. Some of it is, ah, creepy or has weird vibes. All of this provides plenty of material for people to work with. Fans can effortlessly imagine themselves beside their idols or even in their place.
In a highly competitive society, where people throw themselves into studying and work since young age, forming deep and lasting connections with others is very hard, sometimes impossible. As a result, people long to have a group of close friends with similar interests, a loving partner who would cherish them endlessly. People want to be rewarded for their backbreaking efforts to succeed by the carefree life of fame and music, everlasting friendships and love. And in a way you can’t really blame them for his.
Does this dream life sound familiar? We are looking at K-pop bands here. It doesn’t really matter if their members don’t always get along or that they can live in debt, that fame is fickle and adoring fans can tear your self-confidence to shreds. Audience wants the glamour of fantasy and the industry is more than happy to cater to these desires.
Perhaps, knowing that even for idols this fantasy is sometimes unattainable makes the whole set up feel just a little cruel.
3. Fans, stans and fandom culture
We’ve already established earlier that idols are gods in the eyes of people and listed traits they must possess. So, what else do gods need to exist? Worshippers. Because a cult is worth nothing without its followers. Gods need a group of people to worship them and spread their beliefs. The role of worshippers is performed by a fans in this case.
Apparently, there is a running joke that girl groups need to win a general public popularity and boy bands need a big passionate fandom. It seems to be true according to my observations.
In k-pop fandom people use the word “stan” to state that they like or support particular group. Now, I am sure everyone here knows that in other fandoms, dedicated to movies, shows, books and games there’s an important distinction between being a “fan” and a “stan”. What is it?
A fan is someone who likes a ship or character, creates and/or consumes fandom content, supports certain ideas, discusses things they enjoyed and disliked, criticises canon. Stans, however, are a different breed. They engage in all typical fandom activities, but their support and enjoyment becomes obsession. Stans believe their favourite characters and ships are immune to criticism, that they are superior no matter what others say. Stans start shipping wars, send anon hate, death threats over fictional characters and hurt real people. Stans are considered toxic fans. And majority of normal civilised people don’t like them and try their best to let stans hang out in their echo chamber by themselves.
In other fandoms and communities, to be a fan means to love, support and enjoy something, while to stan means to obsess over and hyperfixate on these same things. Words “I stan” rarely mean “I support” for most people, and if they do mean that, it’s only used in a joking manner (”We stan procrastination legend!”, “I stan our miscommunication kings”).
Everywhere else “stan” has only negative connotations, except in k-pop. But what has changed? What’s the difference? Why do international fans scoff at “shipper stans” and then turn around calling themselves “stans of X k-pop group” at the same time? Does it make you wonder?
And this is another core theme of k-pop, in my opinion. In fandom where stan = obsession = support, you can see interesting patterns.
Fandom loves their flawless gods. But watching them from afar is not enough for some people, because unlike deities in different religions, these gods live among us. People are very much aware of that. Industry has created a cult and laid the groundwork for worshippers to express their adoration in every way including personal contact. And who wouldn’t want to meet their god? Who wouldn’t want to know more about them or tell them how much you love them? In talk shows and fan meetings there is only so much one can do after all.
People desire to know more, to have more so much that their obsession transforms into concerning stalker tendencies. These crazy individuals follow idols, stalk them on social media, in hotels, research flight numbers, bribe security. Musicians were attacked and poisoned. I strongly suspect there were cases of rape that no one knows about. There is even a special term for these fans - “sasaeng”.
Is there a definition for stalkers of actors or musicians in western world? No, I’m pretty sure there isn’t. They are just called “invasive/obsessive fans” or “stalkers”.
Also, there are sasaeng memes. Yeah, you heard that right. I enjoy some classy dark humour as much as the next person, but there is a fine line between normal and questionable.
Back to the topic of stalkers. Do you realise how disturbing that is? Such behaviour is so common that there is a term for it. You create a fandom-cult, encourage people to worship k-pop idols as gods and then act surprised when members of said cult become fanatics and their adoration becomes obsession.
And it’s so easy to step on this slippery road. The system makes it ridiculously easy. Lines begin to blur. How much is too much? Where do you draw the line?
While sasaeng fans engage in extreme real-life obsession, people online aren’t that far off, to be honest. I’ve seen it all: imagines, headcanons, fanfiction, real-person shipping, reactions. Real person shipping is a controversial topic. Some people support it, others don’t. I suppose I’m among those who don’t get it. I’m not exactly against it, but I find it strange. Mainly because it’s based on assumptions made by fans about personalities and behaviour of real people.
Assumptions. Dear me! K-pop fandom has this thing with video compilations. I’ve never seen this phenomenon being so widespread in any other community or fandom. Basically people edit together a collection of short clips from talk-shows, interviews, Instagram stories, some YouTube videos, etc and then proceed to analyse every gesture, word, facial expression of idols and provide both audio and on-screen commentary. These videos and many other forms of similar analysis allow people to imagine what kind of personalities idols have, what kind of life do they live. It’s the source material for fanfiction, imagines and headcanons.
But it’s not real. It’ll never be real. It’s an illusion, an image, a stage persona. They fall in love with a face and made up personality. And I think that when people create this content they can forget this. Fans can develop certain emotional dependence and unhealthy attitudes in the long run. In some YouTube comments even supportive and encouraging words sound whiny and obsessive. And semantics of being a “stan” of certain group or individual doesn’t help.
4. Industry, companies and liars
At last we arrive at the most important aspect of music entertainment industry - its creators.
Have you seen “The Road to El Dorado”? It’s one of my all time favourites. It has iconic characters, adult jokes that I didn’t get as a child and iconic soundtrack. I’ll quote “It’s Tough To Be A God” a lot here.
In South Korea music industry is a factory, the production line to be exact. This kind of set up affects everything in the grand scheme of things. Companies and agencies play the role of training centres and record labels. And there are so many of them that a whole new scamming system developed based around fake idol agencies. It implies that there are people who fall for offers of these agencies and continue to do so. I suspect that victims must pay a fortune upfront before they realise their mistake. Are there any kind of legal protection against such scams? How can people verify the authenticity? Because a well masked scam can exist for a long time before someone discovers it and calls them out on their nonsense.
As far as I understand legal companies work like this. After high school, which is often focused on performing arts (and private schools can get away with using talents of students for personal gain, which is totally not surprising), young people can audition for an agency and become an idol in training or idol-trainee. And passing audition is hard. But good recommendations can help, connections too.
During training you don’t get paid. Only a few companies pay aspiring musicians. People can spend years in training and don’t debut. But rent, necessities, clothing and food (not that you need much of it, but more on that later) cost a lot. Where do you get the money to live then? Support from parents, one or two part time jobs at most and bank loans. Surprise! We found an unexpected (just kidding, it’s very obvious) party, who reaps benefits from the system.
You need skill to be an idol. Natural talent helps too. The more skills you have, the cheaper and faster your training is. To level up your game you attend classes every month offered by your agency, which are not cheap (dance classes range from 400$ to 1000$ per month, sometimes more). There are four main categories in evaluation process: vocals, rapping, dancing and visuals. Idols are multitaskers, to have a chance on stage one must be perfect at everything. And people are ready to invest thousands of dollars into their kids training so that they could have a chance in entertainment industry. South Korea thrives on revenue k-pop industry generates every day.
Let’s pause here for a second and think about what kind of people come to these agencies. The answer is easy. People who have a dream, a desire, a real goal. You don’t wake up one day and decide to become a k-pop idol. Sometimes people get invited by agencies (after prior acting, modelling career or any other form of exposure). These people are usually very young. Some start straight after high school, some after university, but 25 years old is considered a late start. Compare that to western musicians who start singing at any age and still become famous.
But why this age limit? Because idols are eternally young. So that in public eye musicians are remembered as 20 year old gods. People would listen to their music and imagine a young attractive face. Career in k-pop is short, it lasts 5-7 years, rarely longer than that. It’s even less than modelling or acting can offer. And professional sportsmen retire in their late 30′s. Some play longer, but usually, that’s it.
If you live in Los Angeles and say that you want to be an actor or performer, no one would bat an eye. It’s like saying that you want to be an engineer or accountant. Similarly, in South Korea becoming an k-pop musician is a real career. Because part of the self insert fantasy that the industry sells is the idea that anyone can be an idol. It’s easy after all. Anyone can pass auditions and become a trainee. A trainee with no guarantee of debut. But one should never underestimate the power of idol-dream. After all, idea is the most resilient parasite.
“My friends started training in kindergarten. They have wanted to become idols since young”
“A lot of young kids get interested in Korean music”
A 6-year old child sees the performance of k-pop group for the first time on TV. Let’s say it’s a girl. She is enraptured and decides that she will be like that too someday. She grows up, while being part of the fandom, just like all idols are in one way or another and whose fan-obsession transforms into desire to succeed. Her parents spend time and money to find her tutors, to fund dancing and singing classes. Perhaps in high school this girl decides to fix the shape of her eyes and make nose straighter. She trains hard and passes the auditions in her dream agency. And during training this girl faces the reality of behind the scenes life in music industry.
“Why are you crying? I’m not even pushing you”
“How many times have I told you? The rest are doing it perfectly”
“She is dancing like an elementary school student“
“I watched your performance as a spectator who bought a ticket to your concert. I want a refund“
“You make my ears hurt. I don’t want to listen at all”
“Listening to you was tiring”
“I’ll kick you out instead. You won’t debut”
“I thought I was going to die. That’s how determined I was”
While I do understand that keeping a high quality standards in media industry is important, there are more productive and healthy ways to motivate someone to improve and be more passionate, you know? Constantly insulting people with sadistic glee and putting them down at every opportunity or calling them ugly to their face doesn’t do much.
Do you think that children know about this? Do they know about soulless teachers and belittling managers? Do they know about friends who are really your competition, so you shouldn’t get attached? Do they know about living in debt? Do they know any of this? No, I don’t think they do.
Children dream about the stage, about the sea of lights and crowds who chant your names. They want adoring fans and photoshoots. They want to appear on TV and magazine covers. Teenagers want the thrill of performance, they want to share their music and dancing with others.
“I don’t know how many times I cried alone”
The truth is cruel. But they won’t give up easily even if it means sleeping 4-5 hours and consuming no more than 500 calories per day. Because giving up means that your whole life was a lie. One can’t afford not to be good enough. Giving up means admitting that all efforts and money your family invested into your dream were in vain. It means losing face before your family and friends - a fate worse than death. Imagine living this idol dream and building your whole future around it and then being told that you’ll never debut because of the circumstances outside of your control or something minor, like face shape or 1 kg of weight that your body refuses to lose. It can break you. Especially if you are like 18 or something.
5. “And who am I to bridle if I'm forced to be an idol If they say that I'm a God, that's what I am”
“I don’t think there’s anything a tough as being a trainee in Korea”
Once you are a trainee at the agency your personal life does not belong to you anymore. You can’t go out without permission of the agency. You phone is taken away. Your diet and weight are monitored. Bad habits are not allowed (no smoking, drinking or drugs). Oh! I think I found the good thing in the system! Unfortunately, it won’t last. Trainees can’t date or meet with family without permission of agency. Dating is very taboo. Even established idols can’t openly date.
Why is that? Because gods can’t belong to anyone. Their lives are property of the fandom. Because openly dating idols destroy the self-insert fantasy. There was a former idol girl who dated another musician. She was called a whore by her fans, her loving and adoring stans. You might know who I am talking about. Would you call an American actor or singer a prostitute for dating someone?
Trainees sign the contract. And how can a young person straight out of school or university know much about what makes a good contract in entertainment industry or what makes a good contract in general? Even if you do understand the terms fully you would still sign it because if you have come so far, you can’t let your dream slip this easily. There isn’t a choice. Not really. If you want to debut, you will agree to anything.
What about life after debut? You have to pay off your loans. And company takes 60-70% of your group’s earnings. Artists themselves get 30-40% and split it between themselves. K-pop groups have from 5 to 10 members or more than that. Each person gets less than 6%. Idols are not filthy rich. They are not. These earnings are practically nothing compared to the work you have put into this.
Idols are musicians, who often don’t even write their own songs, music or create choreography. But if public doesn’t like the song and musical number the company created, they blame idols for the failure. Such an amazing logic we see right here. But people say that sharing music is the best part of idol life. But whose music?
Models on catwalk are not there to demonstrate their physical beauty, they are blank canvas for works of clothing designers. Same with k-pop musicians. They act like puppets in a way, whose faces and voices are used to show audience someone’s music and songs. Some groups do write their own music and lyrics and it’s nice to know that. But those, who don’t are rather unfortunate. It’s a nice tool of psychological control and pressure for an agency. They can hold it over group and use the following rhetoric: “We gave you everything! Why can’t you follow the simple instructions” or “Where would you be without us? It’s not even your music!”
I called k-pop industry a factory. That’s true. Dozens of people become trainees every year. These talented young people are fully prepared to do anything to achieve their goal. They are ready to practice until they collapse, starve themselves and pour themselves into every song. Companies know that. Tell me why would they value their idols as individuals, as people, as human beings if they always have a replacement? Why bother with mental health of their artists if next year they could have a fresh set of people, who are younger and prettier? Why try to improve relationships inside groups if you could fire any member and replace them within a month or two?
In western countries famous bands have different stories. Some were friends since high school, who played in bars and during festivals and then they were noticed by some representative of label company, who offered them a contract. Some groups were formed by like-minded people who bonded and decided to share their music with the world. There are many stories, but ultimately the have one thing in common. Bands in the West often form themselves. These people had time to bond, connect, discover each other, solve some disagreements and learn to work around their differences.
K-pop groups are formed by their agencies. They are their property in a way. Company selects the best and puts together these total strangers, appoints the leader with marketable face and personality and then expects them to work together like a well-oiled machine. No one has time to bond during training, because other people are you competition, not friends. And then you must learn to work as a team and be best friends on camera for the audience to support the self-insert fantasy. It’s no wonder that k-pop groups don’t get along sometimes. And every member knows that they are replaceable. It doesn’t help in forming connections. Groups can’t just terminate contract and go to work with another agency. I heard it happens sometimes, but it’s not a done thing. Unlike in other countries where bands just sign the deal with a different label and release their music under their name if they don’t like the old conditions.
“It's tough to be a God But if you get the people's nod Count your blessings, keep them sweet, that's our advice Be a symbol of perfection Be a legend, be a cult Take their praise, take a collection As the multitudes exalt Don a supernatural habit We'd be crazy not to grab it So sign up two new Gods for paradise”
But is it really a paradise?
Idols are expected to act cute, to match personalities created for them by fans or media. They have to act according to the concept of their group. They have to be a symbol of perfection: skinny, single and with a face perfected by surgery. They are allowed to mess up, but only in a cute way. They can break down and cry, but only if it’s “aesthetic”.
Weight issues are a separate topic. Sometimes I wonder whether managers in companies understand how weight loss or human body in general works. To be honest, I think that scales in agencies are rigged. And only managers know that. I know it can be done from personal experience. Some beach resorts tweak their scales and make them show 4-6 kg less than actual weight, so people wouldn’t get upset if they gain some. There is no way a girl as tall as I am (173 cm) could weigh like 47-50 kg and be able to perform complex choreography on stage and sing without being out of breath, visit the gym on a regular basis and generally function as a normal human without fainting every other day.
“I developed a lot of eating disorders”
“I think I consumed about 300 calories today“
“Someone, please, trim the fat off her arms”
If you grow up thinking of idols as gods and then, when you become one of them you think that you must act as one too. But being an easily replaceable god is a heavy burden. The industry, companies and audience want you to be perfect, to always be on your best behaviour. And the thought of not being good enough or divine enough terrifies you, because stans have no mercy (black ocean concept is the most stupid thing ever by the way). This kind of pressure can destroy even the most resilient. And it does.
Almost everyone knows that situation with mental health in South Korea is not the best to put it lightly. In many ways it’s a cultural thing. But in k-pop mental health issues are treated with even less care. Gods are not supposed to be depressed or suicidal. They are not supposed to have fears or insecurities, can’t be upset or angry. They try hard to be this deity, this image. So, even when they realise they need professional help or even a friend to talk to, they either won’t seek said help or reach out only to be met with silence. Some agencies disapprove or forbid therapy altogether.
Sometimes fandom becomes self-aware.
“Don’t forget that idols are people too!”
“Your favourite idols are running out of breath just to keep you entertained“
“They are humans, who have feelings!”
Oh, but here’s the thing, my friend. The industry doesn’t want you to think of them as people. Companies and media repeatedly reinforce the idea that they are not people, they are your idols. And strangely enough, the audience supports this idea. People continue to call them idols, developing worshiping tendencies in the process, imitate them, scrutinise their flaws and triumphs. Because, you know, only “real and ordinary humans” can have flaws, not “idols”.
So people who say “they are human too” and people who say “wow, this concert was amazing, but vocals in the beginning were so off-key, I simply can’t” are one and the same.
This thought process would have been funny if it wasn’t so disappointing. But that’s just my observation.
And here’s another thing about sexualisation. I said before how appearances are everything, marketable face and body could drastically improve your chances to succeed. Companies know about this too and concepts and aesthetics of groups are designed accordingly. Girls are dressed in skimpy outfits, their dances are unnecessary suggestive, they wear heavy make up and try to have “mature” vibes. Boys don’t avoid such objectification either: suits, tight pants and dress shirts along with make up and hairstyle to give audience a promise of the things to come. Grown adults are not supposed to lust after 15-17 year olds. You can’t just create a sexy stage persona for teenagers. Do you remember my earlier words about creepy merch? Yeah. All of it neatly plays into the self-insert fantasy and encourages obsessive behaviour.
This happens in western countries too. In some way that’s understandable. Beautiful and sexy image with a hint of innocence attracts more people and sells, because it caters to one of the base human instincts. But some things make your skin crawl.
Sponsorships are another topic. Some k-pop bands seek out sponsors to provide financial aid and cover expenses, when earnings are not enough. Sometimes these sponsorships are fine, perfectly civil. But sometimes it’s a prostitution. Girl groups receive money and provide sexual favours to their patrons. It’s a way for the group to gain financial support and even find new opportunities in the industry. Companies can encourage such deals. Let that sink in for a moment.
6. “Any advice to those who want to become a k-pop idol?”
A lot of former idols and trainees have similar responses to this question.
“I don’t want to discourage anyone, but think twice”
“You only see the glamorous side, but don’t see all the hard work that goes into it”
“It’s not what you think”
“They think ‘Since I am good looking and can sing and dance really well, maybe I should become an idol?’, but there is much more to it“
“They think it’s something that is easy and will keep their family set for life financially”
And this implies that most people don’t know what kind of lifestyle k-pop stars truly have, despite the amount of information available online about “behind the scenes” proceedings.
7. Moving on
I am a practical person and every decision I make is subjected to scrutiny. And after seeing everything I can't help but wonder whether idols believe it's truly worth it. What keeps the industry alive is the idol-dream, the wilful ignorance of its reality and youthful idealism, the beautiful naïve belief that it'll get better, even if it never does in the end.
Sure no one would ever admit it out loud, because it's one of those things you never say on camera, no matter how sincere you have to be. It's the matter of professionalism after all, and idols have it spades. And also, because admitting this would equal admitting that you spent your best years doing something you both loved and hated, admitting that this was a mistake.
When you grow up in a society where appearances matter the most, where saving face and being polite is more important than staying true to yourself, where individuality is tolerated only to a certain point, it takes a lot of courage to admit that you need a break. I greatly respect those who decided that idol lifestyle is not for them and moved on.
8. Conclusion
To sum up, I hope you enjoyed my small research and this perspective, since you have read it all the way to the end.
You have noticed that entertainment industry is an intricate system and its every component makes sure nothing changes. Companies have power over idols and audience, fandom has power over idols and their careers, and musicians themselves have fame and their music, but not always the promised fortune or happiness.
It’s important to understand the big picture to draw your own conclusions and encourage positive and heathy attitudes in fandoms. Being open minded and allowing people to make mistakes and live their lives the way they want to is a part of being a decent person. People don’t owe anything to others. Art is about sharing your thoughts and feelings, promoting ideas and spreading beauty. It’s not always about money. And I think that this is what k-pop lacks as an industry. It turned dreams and human need for self-expression into business. Here everything is turned into a product. Everything idols touch can be sold, sometimes literally. Industry created problems, which can’t be solved anymore, because doing so would topple the system. And I find it tragic. Trapped in an endless chase after perfection creators of k-pop forgot that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.
If you take a look at comment sections and posts on different platforms, what will you see? What kind of things resonate with audience? What makes people laugh and cry? When people start to appreciate the substance?
“Everyone needs to hear this song in their darkest moments”
“Thank you for your music!”
“They always deliver! These guys can’t make a bad song!”
“It inspired me to write again!”
“Their songs brought me and my sister together once again”
“This is what happens when you let groups write their own music - they make incredible things”
“They really are legends of k-pop! I love that they are not afraid to show their inner strength”
“Stay strong! You rock!”
I believe that the answer is quite simple: when it’s real, sincere. It’s all about the message you choose to send to your audience, because only superficial things cause obsession. When you say that the sparkly façade is all that matters, then that’s the only thing people will ever care about. Your audience will never give a damn about the meaning behind dancing, music or lyrics, if you tell them that performance is more important. No one would praise WHAT k-pop idols sing, instead they would prefer wasting breath to criticize HOW they sing or look or move.
I dare the k-pop industry to prove people that it’s not just about looks or perfection, or laser shows, or being a branding machine. Prove to your fans that k-pop artists are also passionate people with big dreams and talent, who love every moment of their job, who live and inspire, who are human just like us and whose humanity is real!
Do it, you cowards!
And now, I’m finished. I can hear the raging crowd of k-pop fandom in the distance, which means it’s time to hide. See you some other time!

Note
I am the anon who stated about the self insert stuff etc. I wanna say to the latest anon, k and c-fandom are actually the same. Most k-fandom fanfictions are idol x reader/random girl and if you search BTS reaction video (they're like the most shipped bg out there), countless of their "reaction' video used as "evidence" that they date this or that random female idol, simply just because they see a certain direction or give a smallest body gesture. It's so shallow but yeah (1)
Anon gets impression that fans prefer M/M in k-fandom but it's not really true. The thing is, unlike China, M/M is much widely used as marketing stuff in k-fandom. It's so normalized that you won't read media write rumor about members dating each other just bcs of interaction, since everyone in the industry does fanservice. Unlike in C-ent, where BJYX comm have to delete their entire forum since gossip tabloid wanted to use the material to attack Yizhan. (2)
I do agree with jcisthebestfightme. Fans tend to fullfill their fantasy using something they know won't come true. If any M/M pair in k-fandom bcm reality, I'm sure lot of fans who 'shipped' them previously would reject them. It's all fun and cute till it's become reality. And come to BJYX, this is the exact reason why some WYB's solo fans shipped him with his MARRIED co-star but can't even accept Yizhan as friends. That's bcs they know the het pair is impossible (3)
They know they can safely self insert themselves to the woman and not being threatened, at all. BJYX is an example where fans are far more threatened by the male/male pair than the het ones. I firmly believe that if their chemistry, at least, didn't nearly as strong or they didn't act all suspicious and stuff and instead interacting normally as bros or friends, their solo fans would be much more accepting to them. Sorry it's getting too long. (4)
This anon is responding to this post.
Even though we talk about fantasies here like it’s a negative thing, I actually think it’s fine to allow people to have fantasies. It’s when these fantasies cause people to say homophobic or sexist things and attack other people that it becomes a problem. Overall fan culture are interesting psych studies.
And yes, I think before Untamed became super popular, solo fans for both sides were initially friendly with each other, and friendly with the cp fans who were mostly shipping from character bleed. But over some time, the hatred grew between the 3 groups and now we’re split with clear boundaries. And ya, I do agree bjyx act wayyyyy more sus than any “cp” I’ve ever seen. A lot of M/M pair are clearly just bros or fan-service but most of us here believe there’s something more realistic than that.

Coffee or tea? What are you ordering?: Tea!
Dream job (whether you have a job or not): Marketer for a luxury fashion company or a high-end makeup brand
Go-to karaoke song: Video Games- Lana Del Ray
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?: Mind Reading!
If you could visit a historical era, which would you choose?: Roaring 20s
If you could restart your life, knowing what you do now, would you?: No, I think the way my life is laid out is how it’s supposed to be. I’ve made mistakes and I’ve learned from them. I think if I were to restart my life, I’d not be who I am at this moment and I like who I am right now, I like who I’ve grown to be!
Would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses or one horse-sized chicken?: 100 chicken-sized horses
If you were a trope in a teen high school movie, what would you have been?: The dancers/athletes!
Do you believe in aliens/supernatural creatures?: I’m skeptical about them so yes
Fun fact about yourself that not everyone would know?: If you look closely, my eyes are different shades of brown!
When did you post your first piece?: May 11, 2020
Why did you decide to write for Tumblr?: I’ve been on Tumblr for a long time, but I’ve only gotten into reading other accounts’ works 2-3 years ago. Eventually, they inspired me into wanting to make my own writing account and share my stories and ideas!
Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?: Nope!
What inspires you to write?: My emotions and ideas. Also reading old texts from people I love or used to be in my life, tv shows/movies/kdramas, vision boards, and aesthetics of different countries around the world. Most of the time, my mind just comes up with wild random scenarios.
What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?: I take a break! I’d close my laptop and usually go dance (it’s a way for myself to take a break, yet still feel physically inspired), spend time with family, grab a snack, do some digital art, or research a conspiracy theory!
Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why?: Yes, I write smut (legal members only ofc), angst, and general. I write those kinds of genres because those are the most common and there’s so much that you can do with them! You can write them however you want and write whatever kind of plot you see fit, there’s so much flexibility.
Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?: As of right now, I have been writing for “X Readers” because I want to be really inclusive of everyone! I don’t think I’ll go into OCs or ships (assuming idol and another idol?) because I don’t see that as inclusive. I most likely will stick to “X Readers”.
Who is your favorite person to write about?: Jaehyun from NCT
What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?: I’ve only gotten to post one kind of au (arranged marriage au), but some that I have in my drafts that I absolutely enjoy are idol au, friends to lovers au, enemies to lovers au, mafia au, fwb au, and mythology au. A genre I also love writing is angst!
What is your writing process like?: I usually write at night after I shower and do my night routine. I plug in some headphones, play some music that fits the mood of the story presently, and start writing! If I have writer’s block, I’ll usually watch some old mvs that bring back old memories!
What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?: I haven’t published it yet, because it’s still under the wraps and I want to post about other members too, but I have a mythology au with Jaehyun and it’s my absolute favorite right now! I can’t wait to post it!!
Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?: Yes and no! Yes, because whenever I think of (original) prose I think of a technique of writing that flows naturally with speech and has grammatical structure, so as long as stories have those skills, I would consider them as so. We as humans actually speak, write, and think in prose because it’s seen as a straightforward language and conversational speech. No, because at the same time prose consists of many things. There are several types of prose (non-fictional, fictional, heroic, poetic), so if a story states that it is a specific prose, I would say there is a difference!
What do you think makes a good story?: Emotion 100%. The ability to write with emotions without straightforwardly telling the readers what kind of emotion is felt within a character. Also description of an environment, again, having the ability to describe a moment without stating it like it’s supposed to be obvious.
What do you hope your readers take away from your work?: The emotion that my writing invokes from them. I want them to read my work and feel the emotion that I’m trying to provoke! Also the fact that I work hard and put a lot of thought while being realistic as I can with the plot!
Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?: Not yet!
What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?: Ones that I love are enemies to lovers, friends with benefits to lovers, friends to lovers, different worlds (metaphorically), and I have some more that I can’t think of! Ones that I cannot stand are, stuck together to lovers, secret billionaire, childhood marriage promises, amnesia, and “If i can’t have you, no one will!!”
What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?: Definitely my process/planning; on how I think of a story and plan it out on my iPad with a bunch of side notes and idea webs.
How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?: Oh, it means so much, I can’t even explain. I love it when I get asks that tell me about how mad they are, how much they cried, or how happy they are about something that happened in the story. It means a lot because it means that they actually read through my work and enjoyed it. I love it when my followers and anons talk to me in general!
Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?: Yes, I definitely think that we get judged for being too much in our head or having too many unrealistic fantasies. Fanfic writing is just another way of expressing our ideas simply with the person we adore from a group, it doesn’t necessarily mean we fantasize it to happen.
Do you think art can be a medium for change?: Yes! I think that any idea from the mind that expresses emotion and inspiration visually or not, is considered an art. There’s a lot that goes into writing than what people think! Such as finding the creativity for metaphors in a story that will not only bring out emotion from the character and reader, but also a visual representation to symbolize the emotion.
Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?: Yes, I always get asks asking me when I’ll update, but it’s not too much of a bother because I know they’re just really excited for the next part or another set of work.
Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?: Not at all, I think I do a fairly good job at writing to the point where there’d be no misunderstandings.
Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?: No, I like to keep it private because I’d rather have them not tease or make fun of me for what I genuinely like to do.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?: That I literally love them all so much and I appreciate each and every one of them. I mean it from the bottom of my heart, they’re all so nice, welcoming, and supportive. It encourages me to write more!
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?: Definitely go for it! You’ll never know until you try! There will be people who don’t like it, but those who truly love your writing will support you forever, will stick around, encourage you, and lift you up. Be confident in your writing, be confident that your brain came up with such an amazing plot/story and has woven so many things together to create it!
Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?: I do have a few mutuals that I talk to. One of them has read my story and given such good feedback, which I loved because I’m always looking for opportunities to grow as a writer.

au where in the kiri-dai boys are an idol group. + what their group name would be (I'm crying because this is just hilarious in my mind, the more i try to imagine it the more funny it gets)
anon what the fuck.
NEW SENSATION, named after that new sensation you get when someone breaks your knee, meet the 5.5 pretty boys that make up this new and eye-catching group! (Matsumoto’s kinda ugly so he’s put down as the half)
Hanamiya Makoto
the lead singer and head of the group
a singing voice like an angel, puts you to sleep better than choloform, but can rap perfectly well too
one of the main songwriters, and occasionally performs independently
filled with an “au naturale” beauty aka no one’s been able to fix his eyebrows yet
Hara Kazuya
vocalist, and also involved in visuals
but his talents don’t stop at that! hara plays practically every instrument possible, and changes his hair colour as much as a typical idol too
has the most fangirls, voted most attractive too
half of his fans are only there because of the hara x hanamiya fanservice
(why people ship real people together is another question)
Yamazaki Hiroshi
lead rapper
also, as he known by all the crazed fangirls, the cute cinnamon roll of the group
finds interviews very awkward, partially cause his english is the worst of the groups, but tries his best
tbh it doesn’t matter that he behaves awkwardly half the time cause that’s what’s keeping his fans
no one appreciates him for what a talented rapper he actually is
Seto Kentaro
sub rapper, ocassional songwriter, lead dancer
“lead dancer” i hear you repeat but do not doubt me - this man is most obviously the centre of the stage,,,, all those energetic movements,,,,
‘free and without restrictions’ is exactly how he dances (if that’s a good or bad thing is up to you to decide)
possibly the one that started all the hara x hanamiya shit just to get more fans (that smart brain comes in handy)
Furuhashi Kojiro
visual, dancer, ocassionally sings, makes aesthetic music videos
kinda the group mother, or at least that’s what’s projected at the fans just cause he can bake bread and likes gardening
another one that the fans are constantly screaming is their “precious little cinammon roll”
they’re idiots though cause he’s actually killed a man
was blackmailed into joining the group
Matsumoto Itsuki
fuck knows what he does
maybe writes songs? no one’s 100% sure tho cause half the time he’s not on stage with the rest, and he doesn’t appear in a lot of the interviews (because extreme conventional beauty expectations placed on idols which he doesn’t follow with)
k-pop more like k-metal, sometimes Screams in an Angsty Song
that one member of the group that’s always forgotten
the irony when someone’s going on about how furuhashi’s the underappreciated/forgotten one but matsumoto bro-

you bopped your head to the music blasting through your headphones as you bounced down the brand new halls of the new jyp building. your sneakers squeaked against the floor as you bowed to the staff you passed and waved to a few friends you had made so far as a new part of jyp’s company.
but people recognized you everywhere you went and called you ‘jyp’s experiment’ because technically, that was what you were. the agents talent scouted you, more for your great musical abilities than your mixed race, and instantly you had become a trainee for jyp.
but that was over two years ago, and now you were officially a debuted idol in one of the newest girl groups, the first black and korean idol of the big three, so of course there was much talk in the kpop world of how much you were going to change it. you could produce, write your own songs, dance, sing, and act a bit, you were a triple hit and people called you trouble. not that you didn’t mind.
it was pretty early in the morning and so as you came to the dance practice rooms, some were still empty but a few had occupants. you were passing one of the rooms when a head of orange hair caught your eye. immediately backtracking, you glanced through the small window of the door to see felix of stray kids practicing alone.
you had only met him in passing a few times but he mostly kept your conversations short and brief, always smiling that gorgeous smile of his. he always practiced around the same time as you and you always wanted to have at least conversation but you just didn’t know how.
people always said you were a pretty open person and extremely a mess, a walking meme so to speak, but felix was different. he was australian just like you and you both struggled with korean coming to the country, so there was common topics, but he was always gone before you could start.
you watched him glide across the floor, his movements so effortless and sharp. he knew his balance and it was as if he connected to the music in a way you had never seen before.
you wanted to watch him for a little bit more, but you wanted to go over a few parts before your members got there. but right as you were about to leave, felix suddenly looked back directly at you,’catching your eye. embarrassed, you slowly backed away and quickly tried to walk away but instantly you heard the swift opening of the door.
“it’s rude to stare you know,” you heard his accent loud over your music. you were wondering if all the times he could’ve actually made conversation, why now when you looked like you just rolled out of bed and was staring at him hardcore. you turned around and scoffed, waving him off,”it wasn’t staring, it was admiring a fellow artist,”
felix smirked glancing down at his sneakers, then back up at you, sweat dripping down his forehead. “admiring? hmm I don’t think that’s the word for it,”
feeling how warm your cheeks were getting, you turned to leave,”g’day sunshine, mama’s gotta go!”
“see ya later peeper!”
you gasped turning back to him and the moment he began to laugh at you, you narrowed your eyes at him.” listen up sunset looking head ass boy, you trying me too early in the morning,” this insult only made him laugh harder and soon you broke into a smile just at seeing his face light up the way it did.
he finally calmed down to say,”you’re actually funny when you’re not rushing to get away from me. you know, as fellow aussie’s we should get to know each other.”
“hmm yeah no, i don’t become friends with boys that still use the word peeper,”
rolling his eyes, felix leaned against the door handle,”fine, admirer, let’s hang sometime later if you’re not busy.”
tilting your head at him as you backed away slowly, you hummed in thought,”I might take you up on that offer, I think you might be funny enough to roll with me.”
“I might be? oh girl you have no idea,”
and that’s truly how your friendship with felix grew. he hated being called sunset sunshine head by you but allowed you to do it because he thought you were cute. plus you spoke your mind, always tagged him in memes and did fortnite dances with him on the roof of the jyp building, without a care in the world.
even though your mini album was done, you were still working. you wrote lyrics, produced music, having the positions of maknae, a main dancer, rapper, and vocalist at times, you had a lot on your plate, but felix came in clutch with sending his memes of the day.
but international and korean fans eventually caught on to how close you two were.it truly wasn’t a secret that you both would make entire fools of yourselves backstage at music shows and the cameras caught it all. international fans truly went wild for it,some korean fans as well but not everyone was very happy about it and didn’t keep it secret.
»»
one late night, after a music show performance, you returned to the studio to work on a new song you had begun to write. but after getting stuck on a line, you ended up just reading some comments online because they truly were your guilty pleasure.
“y/n and felix are a whole ass mood,”
“she’s annoying,”
“omg what if felix and y/n are secretly dating and end up like edawn and hyuna?”
“I can’t stand how weird y/n is, sorry not sorry.”
“if felix is interested in someone like y/n, I feel sorry for him.”
“y/n is a happy virus and felix is our sunshine, can they just be together already?”
you were still scrolling, immersed in the comments that you hadn’t heard felix enter the room. it wasn’t until he approached you, his cologne catching your attention.
“creeping on me again, sunshine? you are still failing to scare me homie,” huffing, felix sat beside you and spun in his chair,”i wasn’t trying to scare you, I thought I told you I gave up on that after you punched me in the face the last time.” you pursed your lips before nodding,”you tried to get me while I was coming out of the bathroom, mama always said you gotta be cautious ya know?”
felix rolled his eyes and smiled at you,”aren’t you supposed to be working on something important?”
“aren’t you supposed to be resting before another show?” you counter question and he shrugs, shrugging back, you continue.”I’m just reading some comments about us,”
“they are by the thousands, don’t read them,”
“but some are so cute! people actually ship us together! funny thing is we barely text with words, our friendship is literally in memes,”
felix smirked, his eyes dancing in the dim light of the studio.”meme king and queen, we should be crowned.”
“you’re obviously the queen though because I definitely have more balls than you,”
“says the girl who can’t even look at sloths without crying,”
“but they are cuddle bugs! a animal made for cuddling! totally beats humans any day, fight me.” felix giggled, sitting up to lean forward on his knees.”i don’t know why I like you, you’re so weird.”
you tilt your head at him and he realizes what he said and his eyes widen,”wait-run that by me again?” a smile curling the corners of your mouth. but felix was panicking,”chan is calling me, gotta blast!” he was out of the studio before you could get another word out of him.
but he just confessed to liking you. was it like-like? or just as a friend? you weren’t sure but it made you feel happy inside.
»»
“wait- so how did he say it?”
groaning you out down your fork, less interested in your taco salad. “nina, I’m not repeating it again, it’ll be for the fourth time! he said he liked me.” nina, was a member of your girl group, half cuban and your best friend.
“but y/n,” she whined,”context is important! I mean he does talk about you a lot but you do the same about him too so- wait, do you like him?”
you shrugged and glanced around the small restaurant trying to avoid her sharp hazel eyes.
suddenly, she gasped, her hand smacking the table and making many people look over to you two.
“you do like him! damnit! I should’ve known after you made a literal moodboard of meme felix faces!”
“that doesn’t mean anything!”
nina narrowed her eyes at you and made a stank face,”the only time you ever did that was for pepe and kermit and claimed you only made meme moodboards for your current crushes.”
pouting, you crossed your arms,”dang it nina, stop paying attention to things I say! I was hoping you would forget about that.”
“yeah well I didn’t. so why don’t you just tell him? the boy probably is goin’ crazy thinking you don’t feel the same,”nina said going back to stuffing pieces of chicken into her mouth.
“you know you’ve got to chew it, right?”you ask as she inhaled the chicken, she held her hand up to you and ate even faster before she choked on a piece and cried because she had to spit it all out. you didn’t let her know that you had gotten it all on camera and already getting screenshots for meme pictures later.
»»
the next time you saw felix in person, he was leaving one of the dance studios just as you were leaving a producing room. it reminded you kind of when you guys first became friends.
you couldn’t help but feel a bit sad and reminiscint about the fact that you both went from talking all the time and walking to the building together to nothing. you knew he had been avoiding you by the lack of memes and strings of whiny texts.
you saw him before he saw you and thought it was now or never.”hey stranger danger,” his head shot up at the sound of your voice, his fading orange hair was wet from sweat, sticking to his forehead, reminding you of fading sunset light. his jacket was slung over his shoulder as he was mid-singing through his duffel for his headphones.
“oh hey, dude.”
“you really are going to dude-zone me? the disrespect I feel is abundant,” you say in mock hurt, touching your chest. he broke into a smile and glanced down at his shoes.
“like I really was out here about to tell you how I like you and all and how your freckles remind me of the stars and your hair the sunshine but no-“
“wait really?” his face lit up in shock, his eyes going wide. biting your lip, you rocked on your heels.”yeah, yeah you know but if you don’t feel the same anymore it’s cool.”
felix shook his head,” feelings don’t disappear that fast y/n, I just didn’t know what to do when I accidentally confessed.”
“you could’ve just waited like two more seconds and I would’ve been like yo dude, I like you two, let’s reign as the meme couple and slay these hoes.” felix began to laugh again and you smiled seeing his face brighten as he did. his smile and laugh was seriously your favorite and you shamelessly stared at him.
“well, if that offer is still on the table,”he started as he walked closer to you until you had to glance up to see him better. “then I would happily reign with you,” you giddily rocked back and forth and smiled at him.
“well yeah cool, I would give you a little peck and all but you is a sweaty mess and if you touch me we gonna fight so I suggest you back it up like ten feet.”
“what? you don’t like me like this?” he teased trying to sexily run his fingers through his hair but it only made you laugh at him.
“do that again and I’m leaving you for kermit,”
“right, what can that frog do for you that I can’t?” you both began walking side by side, hands brushing but no one making a move to hold hands.
“I’m sure he is limited in many ways but that frog be banking so,”
felix rolled his eyes at you and swiftly leaned down mid walk to peck your lips, leaving you shook for a moment.”he ain’t as cool as me though.”
shyly you smiled at him and continued to walk,”damnit sunshine, back at it again with the cheesiness.”

will you be my valentine? (cassian x reader)
Prompt: Hi can I request Cassian/Reader, um perhaps where reader has had a crush on her idol Cassian for the longest time and reader is probably just like a technician or something she doesnt see enough to impress him Requested by: Anon Characters: Reader, Cassian Andor, K-2SO Word Count: 949 Click here to read on ao3
Working for the Alliance had always been your dream job.
Well, scratch that.
You had always wanted to be a technician, and once you found an in with the Alliance, you felt as though you had finally found a purpose in life, what you were born to do, helping to bring down a fascist regime with just your humble little skill set.
But time had a way of making you take things for granted, as time so often did, and it wasn’t long before you set your sights on something else.
Or rather, someone else.
Cassian Andor was one of the chief intelligence officers for the Alliance. You didn’t know what he did exactly, but considering how much time he spent with General Draven and Mon Mothma, you knew that he was someone of note. This was actually pretty convenient for you. You wished that he was just another cargo pilot, another technician, someone equal to your lowly status. It might have made approaching him a bit easier.
Instead, you contented yourself to watch him from afar.
At least, until Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t really that different from any other day, except there were less people working than usual. That really didn’t bother you any, considering you spent most of your company around droids. They didn’t seem to get the point of this “holiday” any more than you did.
That was probably why you felt a little safer venturing over to Cassian’s U-Wing. He and K-2SO had been grounded on base for the last few days, and the shuttle looked to be in pretty bad shape. You stood there for a few moments, surveying the damage, before a mechanical voice spoke up from behind you.
“And what are you looking at?”
The voice was both indifferent and accusing at the same time. You spun around to find yourself dwarfed in K-2SO’s mighty shadow, and you quickly forced a smile to your lips as you looked up at him.
“Sorry, I was just looking at the damage. It’s in pretty bad shape. What happened to it?”
“That’s classified.” The accusing tone was dropped in favor of total ambivalence.
“Oh.” He seems to be waiting for you to leave, and you avert your gaze before you gesture back to the ship you had been working on.
“I see. I’ll just, uh, I’ll just leave you to it, then. Just let me know if you need any help.”
He doesn’t reply as you slink back to your own ship and start working at double the pace, just in case he happened to be watching you. That droid seemed suspicious of anything and anyone, although you didn’t know how much of that was simply a byproduct of his reconditioning.
In fact, you’re working so diligently that you don’t notice that Cassian himself had stepped out onto the landing strip. You don’t notice him talking to K-2SO. You don’t notice K-2SO pointing in your direction, and you don’t notice Cassian Andor heading straight for you until you almost slip off the ladder you were on as you jump down from the cockpit.
“Hi there.” Your voice sounds too high pitched, even for your own ears, and you quickly swallow the lump in your throat as you face him directly, trying to remain as cool as possible. “Anything I can, erm, anything I can help you with?”
“Kay says you were inquiring about our ship?” He arches an eyebrow, but he doesn’t seem mad. Just curious.
“Just checking her out.” Your hand flutters in the air in a desperate attempt to seem nonchalant. “Seemed in pretty bad shape. I didn’t know if you needed any help.”
“I think we’re fine, thanks.” He seems ready to start walking away as he lingers for a moment, surveying the droids that were working on the rest of the ships parked nearby. “Thank you, by the way.”
You blink at him stupidly. “Thanks?”
Cassian lets out a lighthearted chuckle. “Well you spend so much time here working on these ships, making sure they’re in top condition. I don’t know when the last time the Alliance has properly thanked you for your work, but we appreciate it. The pilots appreciate it. I appreciate it.”
You can feel heat rising to your cheeks. You hadn’t expected Cassian, of all people, to notice how much work you put into your ships, but evidently, he had. Then again, he was a spy. It was his job to notice everything around him. And that, it seemed, included you.
You open your mouth to speak, but no words come out. Maybe you were a droid, because it seemed, at least in that moment, that your circuits malfunctioned and something that you never imagined yourself ever saying comes out of your mouth instead.
“If you really want to thank me, you can come with me to dinner tonight.”
You had no idea what had gotten into you, but Cassian just chuckles in response. He casts a long lingering look in your direction before he finally dips his head forward in a nod. “All right, it’s a date.”
Fortunately, he turns to head back to his ship, sparing you the trouble of having to put together a coherent response. You would have to converse with him later, of course, but future problems were future problems.
Right now, you needed a shower. There was no way you were going to go to dinner with Cassian Andor reeking of fuel oil.
Thanks again for the prompt, anon!! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!

Im crying in the school bathroom rn I seriously love wonho so much I'm in pain why is he my ideal guy in every way he's so amazing and handsome and sweet but whO CARES BEVause he don't kno me haha am I right
big mood all the time im always in pain bc he rly................ doesn’t KNOW i would let him shave off my eyebrows if he wanted 2
tardy replies as usual under the cut!
(sorted from oldest to newest)
I wouldn't even care if wonho was a high maintenance boyf tbh I'd just sit and comb his hair all day and tell him he's pretty
hdjkfh this was so long ago but i think i was mostly kidding abt him being a high maintenance bf... like he would do so much giving? but i guess the only thing he’d need is constant reassurance that his s/o loves him imo jfdhgjk... i also think he’d b someone who either doesn’t settle down ever or does it very late in his life!
annie 🌹literary queen ❤️ literally crowned with a laurel wreath! not be drum attic but this midsummer nights monsta au is so!!!! give me sistar as the four star crossed lovers then drag me to h*ll and give me this doctor faustus au i'm itching for with kihyun as faustus and k.will as mephistopheles bc i love to watch my faves s*ffer but don't let me rip until i get my much ado about nothing au with the entire cast of starship ent and a lil cameo from giriboy!
(in refence to this monsta x as shakespearean archetypes ask!) fjdshgkjs shh i lov u... why is k will as mephistopheles so Accurate esp no.mercy k will lmao. um u should write all of these? in fact if... if anyone has mx literary aus.... hmu...... i’ll n*t
another thing about that incident is that it seems like the fan doesn't think Changkyun and Jooheon undersood them?? (an extension i guess they assumed they don't understand english very well) and that's pretty problematic. it seems to me that when they didn't respond the fan assumed they didn't understand and kept repeating it, as a joke. but they literally did That to the two with the most proficient english in the group... it's rly a mess all around. it's disrespectful through and through
(in relation to that gross “d*ddy” incident from a while ago) ik i feel like some intl fans think korea is a land completely culturally and linguistically alienated/divorced from the rest of the world or something and while cultural relativism is real to some extent... the idea that koreans are completely unaware of ~outside~ things is deeply racist. like mostly white ppl think that diasphoric poc are completely Different from them? when my mum went to the states 15 years ago some ppl literally asked her if there were newspapers in china lol...
i just randomly thought of monsta x as sesame street characters mostly bc i wanna see kihyun and wonho duke it out as bert and ernie (kihyun w/ the waste paper bin on his head and wonho asking 'where's the waste paper bin' and kihyun saying 'ask me that again and look into my eyes') and also minhyuk being elmo tbh...
JKGHKJDF PLEASe!!!! when will something like this b photoshopped... minhyuk as elmo is... spot on... i remember once elmo appeared on a now-discontinued late night talk show program i used to watch when i was in primary school and he was like “elmo likes wasabi, that’s why elmo has no eyebrows” and idk why ive never been able to forget this????? very lmh. also this made me think of a monsta x muppets au n minhyuk is the pic of ass-gape kermit.... next post of mine will b monsta x as kermit reaction pics
Hyungkyun is such an under appreciated ship. Like, they just get each other so well? Why do people overlook it. ㅠ.ㅠ Do you have a moment that made you ship them? How would you describe their dynamic?
it’s bc they’re intp x intj they don’t rly... Understand each other with minimal effort/real communication lmao it’s very efficient. both quiet lil darlings who aren’t emotionally That Open but enjoy their own little space together sometimes?? their dynamic is like... they’re weird in different ways but they’re v chill together. u can tell hyungwon is super fond of changkyun like he has this Expression when ck does anything at all.... i think these two rly love each other’s personalities bc they’re both kind/gentle/peaceful types and their overall ?? vibe is just highly compatible... they’re absolute darlings... v soft together... i can’t think of a favourite moment but i rly rly love their birthday messages for each other last year like changkyun’s message for hyungwon was like “ur rly cool bruh ur rly such a great person” and hyungwon’s message for changkyun was rly... just him obviously doting on him n finding him cute jksfdhg i lov them a lot :(
soyou: i know how to make hair pretty :))) knetz: dirty fckn iljin why can't she be out there being being PRODUCTIVE in society by having babies and learning how to be a good wife for her future husband ://// smh how dare she be successful now when i'm stuck doing what society wants me to do but also anonymously attacking ppl i don't personally know on the internet bc THATS respectable the irony of ugly knetz is so transparent
The whole thing about Knetz and wonho's "scandalous" past reminded me of something. As a PSA to those people who are so insistent and pushy that idols aren't allowed to have sex/date/be anything but straight: Fuck all of you. You do not own these people, and if you really cared about them you'd be happy if they were happy. Like tbh, if anyone that famous and busy could also balance out a relationship at the same time, I'd be so happy for them. It really bugs me how all idols are supposed (1/2)(2/2) have this squeaky clean innocent image where they have to look and act a certain way and have these stupid fucking dating bans because once they don't meet up to that image their success suffers. Idols already give up so much privacy, and the last thing they need is millions of people scrutinizing every little thing they do. I don't even know where I started this rant from, but basically, GIVE IDOLS PRIVACY AND DONT JUDGE THEM FOR THEIR PASTS OR FOR BEING IN RELATIONSHIPS OR WHATEVER
yeth ty for highlighting the gross obsession w purity and productivity (like the first anon said -- a very confucian sort of ideal)... i don’t rly have anything else to add here i think. also i would fight for soyou i fact i would fight lmh who said she was his ideal type in no.mercy era... she’s rly one of my faves and the way she was slandered for the hairdressing thing was one of the most ridiculous things knets ever did lmao honestly yuk
u a kihyun stan now👀👀👀
im a @fhiz stan it’s the same thing tbh
ahh so i saw your tags on that jh gifset! as one of the few jh stans (or maybe there are way more than i think there are lol) i rly love his "reversal charm." he has a lot of what i lack as a person: a strong presence and a lot of confidence! i respect him so much as a person alth i rag on him a lot LMAO. sorry if this is a bit long winded but i just rly wanted to put this out there ;;
this is rly cute i lov hearing ppl talk abt their faves lovingly it rly... Heals Me. i think it’s strange how underappreciated jooheon is in this fandom especially bc he’s usually the one who catches ur eye first bc he’s so hyped by starship as being a one-in-a-million talented rapper u know? and he rly shines in mvs and no.mercy but............. y does he have the least fansites jkfhdg ?? you’re v right abt the reversal charm thing but i feel like sometimes it’s very overdone like... on lots of shows he’s asked to do aegyo when rly he should be asked to... idk... rap or dance or something?? i actually think jooheon is the most serious member of monsta x sometimes bc he seems to have a sense that he’s.. the pillar of mx if that makes sense? and that’s why he’s always pushing himself and working tirelessly like he feels very Responsible for this group, more than anyone else. idk if that makes sense!!! i love him and i want him to... unwind a bit bc sometimes he looks so stressed and tired but he still feels the need to pretend to be energetic like my heart rly hurts for him :/ this got so emo im sry i do rly love to hear that u respect him sm i love jooheon stans :(
i can see what u mean about jooheon being 1 of the most masculine. (iirc u also talked abt kihyun being that in a post a while ago) like with his face and his physique he really is striking; his body=like that slim,upside-down Y that you'd learn to draw men w/ in Anatomy 101 , but i think.. ,--not that u asked, but,, i think the jury's still out on if he's comfortable w his masculinity with the way he acts feminine lyk misogynistic comedians Can sound like dead ringers for women,? idk & i take +
(not sure if there was a 2nd part to this? there’s nothing else in my inbox so i’m sry if there was and tumblr ate it) yeth i think i meant that his demeanor is the most ~~masculine~~ whereas i think kihyun is still the most... idk... mature-masculine?? if tht makes sense, and i definitely agree w u on that second point! i didn’t think of that at the time but now that i... do... think abt it... ur right and also the way he comes back from it by putting on the >swag demeanor again in an attempt to polarise it is definitely a bit 👀👀👀 he probably doesn’t want to risk his Manly Rapper Image for real u kno? that said it’s ingrained in kpop that behaving cute --> “girly” entails that sort of “comedic” high-pitched voice + compact body language etc.... like i’m not condoning that ofc but i definitely think it’s broader than this particular case! :/ hm
maybe i'd be doing better in school if i could major in kihyunology ;~; i stan him but i def think we still don't know much about him even after all this time after debut. especially when i look at him compared to wonho who wears his heart on his sleeve (bless him i love wonho sm, gotta protect this bun at all costs!!)...but ya it just makes me wanna learn more about him like who is the real kihyun??
i want to write a kihyun meta when i have time... i feel like i Get him a bit more these days but it’s also very hard to put into words bc u kno when u kinda sorta mb get some1 but it’s a feeling rather than anything conveniently expressable gkjdhfjk.... idk if anyone wants to send in some Kihyun Thoughts + Meta feel free! :>> i don’t think he’s actually... as complex as we sometimes make him out to be lol like his behaviour is actually kind of predictable? more on his later
wait is the february comeback actually true? ugh i'm so conflicted cuz on one hand i'm excited if there's really gonna be a full length album, but i also think they need more rest but then there's the matter of getting their first win and idk i'm super psyched but i'm also worried that the boys are being overworked
i still feel like they had a comeback like yesterday lol like looking at their schedules stresses me out bc they do so much..... im glad wonho got to go to his mum’s cafe recently tho! all we can do is have faith in them rn and when it’s time... stream, buy things if ur able to, spread the news and the hype etc. i am definitely Worried abt some things like the competition they’re up against but.... gotta have faith u kno... and i feel like all active idols are kind of... permanently worked very hard but i think currently only jooheon and shownu are a bit Overloaded. also has the date been confirmed yet... it’s february already...
