“Uh…Mc..what’re you doing?” 

“Mixing.”

“Why?” 

You stick your tongue out in concentration, carefully pouring red Demonous into the blue variant until it was purple. “Well, the red tastes like cherry Kool-aid and the blue tastes like blue raspberry, so I figured if I mixed them, it’d taste amazing as shit.” 

Mammon blinked a couple times before shrugging and grinning, hopping up on the counter beside you to watch. “Better have some for me, too!” 

“Some of what?” Asmo pokes his head in the doorway, immediately interested when he sees the demonous bottles, “Ooh!! Me too, me too!” 

You laugh and get down more glasses (and a few extras too. It was just a hunch) and mixed the perfect blend until it was a pretty purple. And, just to be silly, you threw some edible glitter in there too. 

“Alright guys!” Giving Asmo and Mammon their glasses, you grinned and lifted your own, “bottoms up!”

When Lucifer got home two hours later, he was not expecting to hear music blasting all the way from the gate- or to see all of his brothers stumbling around and laughing like maniacs. 

Beel was gnawing on the couch like a dog, Belphie was actually up dancing around with Asmo. Satan was acting out Shakespearean tragedies with Levi and Mammon was curled up on the floor with your jacket in his arms. 

He immediately zeroed in on the second born, but before he could berate the wrong perpetrator, he heard a sheepish laugh from behind him. 

You smile hesitantly, holding out a glass of glittery purple liquid. “My..bad..?” 

Bonus: 

“In my defense though, it did, in fact, taste bomb as fuck.” 

“Mc.” 

You grinned, not even feeling sorry for the six demons laying their heads on the table with hangovers, “I was only the mixer— I didn’t make them drink it.”

I do think that it's important for Evan to understand that just because his friend don't express it in the way he does (or desperately tries not to) it doesn't mean that they don't love and miss him just as much as he misses them.

Evan said that he learned after love (his friends) came into his life, that the rest of life is still very much a thing you have to deal with and now he's seen someone dealing with it.

Jammer loves the Pilot Program and he loves his mom and sisters and all of the other teams he's part of, but the logistics of life get in the way of that. So he's thinking of ways to change his life to accommodate that love.

Now Jammer doesn't handle that perfectly because no one does really (god I want to see the convo in the next episode so bad) but he's acknowledged the problem and then moved towards fixing it.

I understand why Evan is the way he is but I do think that (for perfectly understandable reasons) he can be very unaware of the others feelings and motivations. In the same way he was doing a disservice to Sam, he's doing the same disservice to Jammer by deciding on his own that they are being 'kind' rather than 'loving'.

Jammer obviously isn't coming at the thing with the same intesity as Evan is but they both have the same silly day dream of just getting to be with their loved ones forever. That's a very understandable, very common want.

[Prefacing this with I'm not angry nor judging anyone at the table - having no idea what their true thoughts on these things are, just pointing out how silly and perhaps purposefully 'missing the point' some of the characters are being played as]

Please tell me the adventuring party was Brennan still doing a bit about not understanding that Tabby was 100% directly mimicking Evan (even though it started out Evan realizing he was looking in a mirror, then idk if everyone just got lost in the sauce and that realization just got buried in the improv yes-anding far away from the starting point)

Brennan just screamed that Evan's vibes are RANCID!

Evan who just gave a whole speech about how he was emotionally crushed (and low-key judgy) about how Jammer said 'family on 6' but his single mom of 3 didn't adopt a troubled 17 year old whom she'd never met. Then feeling icky that a rock they've been traveling with and using for info wants to be a part of the friendship.

How the whole point of him wanting to be a dog was that people didn't get rid of you - they kept you and you didn't need to be explicitly useful for them to still want you. Then Tabby literally said the exact same thing - being afraid they'd leave him behind when they found the wall he was supposed to go in despite how useful he'd been with as much energy as he had with the magic and Evan POINT BLANK REFUSED TO PROMISE IT!! Despite Evan asking the same of his group of friends.

Claiming that Tabby was 'love bombing' them to get them to do what Tabby wanted, but not recognizing Evan does the same - then blames people for abandoning him even though none of them have.

AND THE PARALLELS WITH HOW EVAN TAPES OUT A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND TABBY HAS A LITERAL OUTLINE IN A WALL HE'S SUPPOSED TO DIRECTLY FIT INTO AND YET EVAN CLAIMS TO WANT TO BE ABLE TO BREAK OUT OF THAT 'NECESSITY' TO HAVE A PLACE WHERE YOU FIT AND JUST BE ABLE TO EXIST WITHOUT NEEDING TO FIT A SPECIFIC SHAPE/PURPOSE IN THE WORLD

How Evan only sees one way his 'needs' can be met - and that's with the group all living together with their themed rooms and adventuring forever (exactly what Tabby said) and getting really disregulated when the group wants to be in each other's lives in a different way - leading Evan to almost fully cut everyone off because they didn't fit in the small box of 'this is the way they'll show they love me', completely missing all the ways that they, too, get to be their own person and just because Evan isn't stitched to them at the hip doesn't mean they aren't a family.

Tabby is pretty clearly just becoming 'sentient' and he's mimicking what he's seeing around him - namely, Evan's desperate need to belong and be a part of something permanently

I have no idea how much of all that was a bit meant to highlight how Evan just can't clock that comparison (even though at the beginning of Tabby waking up fully he seemed to - and then promptly decided that instead of facing that in himself and extending some compassion and empathy to Tabby, he veered to a hard 'we need to destroy this thing that reminds me of how I behave') or how much was Brennan and Lou just getting lost in the sauce of how to interpret Tabby's every move into something bad, but I'm glad the fems and thems of the table called it out and acknowledged that's what was happening.

I really hope the next episode circles back on Evan's initial realization that Tabby was like looking in the mirror and that's how Evan is to be around and there will be some growth there instead of Evan and Jammer just teaming up to destroy Tabby. K dropped the line about making love sustainable which earned a knowing look from Aabria, so I hope that, since Evan was allowed to have his tirade against K (for good reason) episode 3, K will get to call Evan on his shit too.

I think it was a really smart design to have the motives be so explicit this season and at this point I'm very very interested in seeing how the different characters realize their motive, but also reach the point of understanding what they thought they wanted wasn't actually exactly what they need - Jammer realizing that 'teamwork' might need to be achieved differently from how he's been going about it, he might need to pivot. Evan realizing that 'belonging' doesn't mean everyone is with you all the time and constantly reassuring you they don't hate you, they can live their own lives without that meaning they've ditched you.

Idk, very rambly, but the last episode sparked so many ideas in me about how the characters can face themselves and grow due to the wonderful world, mechanics, and plot Aabria has set up.

HIHIHIHIHIU OK YAY OK . ok . im all sleeped up and I'm going to be so insane at you ok . gonna put it under a read more though because . I'm about to be so insane .

SO ! rolling with difficulty , as you can probably tell from the title , is a dnd podcast . mechanics wise , it's on like . the complete opposite side of the spectrum from dndads lmao- they're still very story driven , but they're a lot more crunchy , very following the rules as written but like finding loopholes in them because for funsies . they do little 20 minute bonuses each time the crew levels up so you know exactly what each character is getting and all their new stuff , I actually really like those . the episodes are 3-5 hours long , but each season is only like 10 episodes . and it's not split up into each season is a campaign and it gets very confusing sometimes sbnxjsnxnd like the first campaign (the one I'm autism about) is the first 5 seasons , and they only just finished season 1 od their second campaign . anyways ! most of this stuff is why idk how many dndads listeners will be willing to listen to this but that's ok 👍

NOW !!! as for what its actually about !!! (at least campaign one I'm probably not gonna talk a lot about campaign two) it's about a crew of four silly guys on a space plane ship ! it uses the planescape dnd setting , basically like all the planes of existence in dnd canon exist on different planes that can be traveled between through portals or like the plane shift spell , or , in the cast of our beloved crew , you have a spell jammer , which is a ship that can cast plane shift and you can sail between planes and it's very cool . anyways , the crew consists of kyana - a human monk , finbar - a firbolg (giant kin fae thing) druid/ranger multi-class , VR-LA (pronounced veer-la) - a mechanite/warforged (robot) wizard , and Dani - a fire genasi artificer . the four of them basically live on their ship , the Per Aspera , which is owned by Dani's "Uncle" Otto , who sends them on little jobs and stuff and he's also kind of an asshole but I like him . they also take jobs from other people sometimes and then they forget to go back to Otto who gets pissed at them about it and it's silly . anyways . usually though , the seasons focus on an adventure relevant to one of the characters with other little jobs filling their spare time .

gonna very briefly talk about kyana and finbar just so you know those two before I go on a ridiculous rant about VR LA and Dani ok . so Finbar is just a middle aged firbolg (everyone else is like 20 except VR LA who's only been awake for a year ish) , hes a part of a chef's guild and makes it his responsibility to make sure these idiots don't get themselves killed either by y'know monsters , or just being stupid and forgetting to eat . and he's like 8 feet tall . he's a big guy . Kyana is just a little guy who ran away from her (evil) monk monastery and got found by the crew just . swimming . in the astral sea . which is the void between planes that spell jammers can sail on . insane . anyways . she has no idea what's going on because she's never been anywhere and she is precious and loves the world and loves these people who are nothing like how she was raised and isn't that wonderful ? I love her . and she's like 5'0 . shes literally a little guy <3

now I'm just gonna talk about VR LA bcs he's my little guy and I am spinning him around at record speeds inside my brain <3 his whole thing is basically that his previous crew on the per aspera got Got by a crew of space pirates , and he was the only one left . but then smthin happened and he lost all his memories and couldn't keep the ship like . flying . and eventually he shut down on that ship and was woken up by Dani , who had found the ship and made fixing it up her personal pet project bcs she's a little mechanic who saw a flying wreck and said I can fix her . and she did . and then she also saw the shut down robot on the ship and said I can fix him . and she did . this is how the ship belongs to Otto instead of VR LA , bcs he's like ohhhh Dani fixed it up and she's my employee and you don't even remember anything . anyways . Dani and VR LA are literally siblings to me . icy they're so important to me . the high int low wis siblings . that post I made a bit ago about how dndads doesn't have any characters who are like . little autistic brainiac smartasses . that's these two . both of them . and that is probably most of the reason why I'm so attached to them rn . like I need you to know that I did not recently listen to this podcast . I listened to this pretty soon after catching up on dndads two ish years ago and have just been like . passively into it this whole time . and now I'm like ok no I'm into this for real now . whoopsies . time to relisten and be autistic about this . and that's what ive been doing . anyways . back to the actual show <3

so Dani !!! she was found off the streets by Otto , who owns a little dnd fantasy mechanics shop , and he taught her how to be an artificer . shes incredibly smart , both like . street smarts . and literally anything mechanical . this comes with her being the biggest smartass known to man <3 she's very blunt but also very bad at expressing anything and is the least perceptive person ever (she has a passive perception of 9) she's a bitch and I love her so much <3 she's very snappy and abrasive and aggressive but also the ship is the single most important thing to her and it's not the ship without her crew and that is all she cares about <3 she doesn't give a shit about anything except for the ship she singlehandedly put back together and the people who live in it with her , and she would do anything for them . man . I love her icy .

now I'm gonna talk more about VR LA again bcs I'm not done with him <3 he's so abxnwjncjqnxjqmdn icy I love him . he just like me fr fr . he's also very smart , but he has . zero street smarts . ask him about anything and he probably knows something about it but ask him to talk to a person and he cannot . he does not know this . he continues trying to talk to people and like . persuade people and shit but he's so bad at it . icy he's so fucking bad at it . I love him so much . anyways , the other people on the per aspera are literally the only people he has and the only thing that could come close to them in terms of importance is his old crew , and yet he still picks Kyana and Finbar and Dani over them . man . icy this is a whole thing that I am very extremely ABJDJSNCHSBXHJA about . VR LA is a guy who has no memory of his old life but he knows it happened and he knows he used to have a crew of people he cared about but he can't even remember their names . (at the start) there aren't a lot of things that vr la actually cares about . he's very passive and like I'm staying with this ship because it's all I have even if it's not even legally mine anymore , and I'm staying with Dani because she's the only person I've ever really known . icy they're so siblings to me . ohuufhfggg . however !!! the one other thing he really *wants* is to know about his old life . he wants to know who was important to him before and he wants to know if they're okay even if he doesn't know them . it makes me ill . but he has his crew , and while those people might have been important to the old VR LA , Kyana and Finbar and Dani are important to *now* VR LA . so if it happens that along the way he can find out who he was , hed do anything to find them . but he has his people , and their safety and happiness is the single most important thing to him . if he will not lose a second crew . if hed have to hurt his current crew to find his first , then he's not going to find them . man . icy I could go on about this alone for hours . but I will not . anyways . silly little robot <3 I am so completely normal about him <3

also there's another silly robot named Maxim who you meet in s1 ep7 and I think him and VR LA should kiss . I'm not going to talk a ton about them beyond that but uhhh yeah . extremely repressed adhd sorcerer robot x extremely blunt autism wizard robot <3 Maxim hermit who is extremely emotionally intelligent but is very purposefully stomping out all the emotions because this is a purely professional relationship and we are here to professionally exchange mutually beneficial information and nothing else . VR LA adventurer who has never heard of romantic interest in his year of remembering being alive and just knows that he greatly enjoys Maxims company and he will tell him so despite having only just recently reconnected with him. and their compliments to each other are purely out of professional admiration . anyways .

Appearance -Lollipop appears similar to regular RED Jammer but without the tights under her shorts and the brown roller skates are replaced with neon pink glittery ones. Her usual long curly hair is replaced with short and choppily cut hair in messy pigtails like spikes. Instead of pink lipstick it wears dark black lipstick and her helmet actually appears as a jammers helmet in roller derby. The knee pads are still black but now with neon pink nuclear symbols and it now has sharp vampire teeth instead of bunny teeth.

Personality and behavior - Lollipop is similar to Ass Pancakes and Painis Cupcake in her behavior, only being nice to people when treated with kindness. If it thinks it’s being treated with rudeness it will take out her scythe and cut the person in half while screaming ‘I WANNA KILL YOU!!!’ But if nice to it will be moderately good (good as in will just stare at you, smile if it really likes you)

Powers and abilities - As put above, Lollipop uses a grim reaper style scythe to cut people in half it doesn’t like. It isn’t actually very strong similar to Jammer, it often struggles carrying around the weapon when not angry. It’s only able to cut people clean in half when they piss her off.

Lollipop Chainsaw is also known to ‘eat time’ the ability being to eat an hour out of the day which with fast forward time, doing it too much though could completely collapse the space time continuum and everything will disappear as everyone explodes, this has happened on numerous occasions and every time Lollipop just universe hops to another dimension where that didn’t happen. It’s on her eighth universe. Every time it does this it also gets weaker, it knows it’ll kill her eventually but it can’t stop.

Faults and weaknesses - While a hard opponent to beat when angry, it still has a few weaknesses that can be exploited to win:

* Without being pissed off enough it can’t use her scythe, it’s still good with her other less heavy weapons but not as great with the scythe

* It often thinks it can just win battles by eating time till you’re weak enough to lose, but this often just ends in another universe collapse

* Her own powers are really her weaknesses

Unsurprisingly, its name is after the 2012 video game Lollipop Chainsaw. This is mainly because the original oc, The Jammer, was based off Juliet Starling.

I would just like to say that there are no words in the english language, no emojis in existence, and no expressions I can record for you to know that chapter nine has me feeling like I am on top of the world. Everything I asked for came true in a way that I cannot explain. Every trope I hoped for was carried through, and as much as I was sure they'd be used, they still caught me so incredibly off guard in the remarkable execution and slight twists that made the trope unique. You guys are exceptional writers, and if you choose to go down this path and make a career out of it, I am more than positive great things are in store for you. Even if this is just a silly hobby, that already shows great talent and devotion in you guys. To have been reading this since chapter two and see it grow so beautifully is something I will never let go of. The bar of expectations was in heaven, and I'm very sure I walked through the gates. My autism cannot handle the magnificence you've displayed here, and I will be yapping my pookies ear off about it for decades to come. I SWEAR on my heartstopper book collection that when this is over, I will print it out, create a cover and add it to my collection of gay literature. Since it's going to be at least 27 years until the next chapter (PLEASE take all the time ever I am being so serious🙏), I'm definitely going to reread this story about ten times while listening to Conan Gray because I swear you can relate ANY song of his to them. >:) helloooo people!!!! I’m back with more stuff for my Void Skaters AU!!!!! This post is gonna be entirely dedicated to explaining the sport so everyone’s caught up and not confused. I hate yapping about something and then finding out people have no idea what I’m talking about. But that’s besides the point!!! Now sit down, grab some popcorn and a drink and get ready cause I will basically be giving a not so brief explanation of this :333   — Snail

Roller derby (or derby just for short) is a contact skating sport. Two teams play on an oval shaped track. There are 5 people on the track at a time. There are typically 15 people on a team. I think for my teams there’ll be 10 players per team but the reason for this will be explained in a later post (if I remember). On the track there’s the jammer and four blockers. 

A very important rule in derby is that while it's a contact sport, you're not allowed to use heads, elbows, forearms, hands, knees, lower legs, or feet to make contact with the opposing team. Using any of these parts or making an unsafe play that could severely harm your opponent could result in a penalty.

Just some general terms would be: Jams, Jammers, Blockers, and Pack

Jams are the formal term for the periods of actual gameplay. Jams are usually 2 minutes long with about a minute in between them. The game is split into 2 halves of 30 minutes. 

Packs is the term for the group of blockers. The blockers goal and what not will be later explained. 

the Jammers wear a star cover on their helmet to distinguish them from the other players. The jammer's goal is to get through the pack of blockers before the other jammer does. If the jammers get through first they become the lead jammer and are able to call of the jam (TLDR they get to decide if it ends sooner). Jammers can tend to have different strategies when it comes to getting though the blockers. Some jammers focus on being able to quickly squeeze between the blockers quickly, while others can use brute strength to push through them. I’ve seen both styles in games. Both styles will appear in this AU. 

The blockers are the remaining 4 people that group together to try and prevent the opposing jammer from getting through, while trying to help their own get through. The groups of blockers are referred to as packs so keep that vocab word in mind, folks!! I can’t really think of much else to say about the blockers. Blockers can also be jammers in case theirs gets a penalty but they usually have a backup jammer.

★ Minervaa — Clamble, Plant Island

Easily recognised by their terrifyingly wide eyes and small pupils, Minervaa is notorious on Plant Island for being an absolute menace. They are an impulsive thrill seeker who seems to have no fear even in the most dangerous situations - good thing Bytee is around to make sure that they don't do anything too risky! They have a bit of a short fuse and can say mean things without meaning to but underneath all that they have a heart of gold and care deeply about the monsters in their life.

★ Bytee — Wubbox, Plant Island

In contrast with their adoptive younger sibling Minervaa, Bytee is cool, calm and collected. Ever since they were awakened by the monsters of Plant Island, they believe they owe them some kind of debt and tries to do everything they possibly can to help, with varying amounts of success. They usually don't like to do anything that would upset anyone, but sometimes they quietly encourage Minervaa's chaos.

★ Hayzel — Oaktapus, Plant Island

Hayzel and Minervaa might look completely different on paper, but these two best friends are more similar than you think. This laid-back monster is equally fearless, though they're less of a thrill seeker and more blissfully unaware of the danger around them. In fact, it seems the only monster in the entire multiverse who can make them angry is their sibling Morton. Recently, they've been trying to get Flurry to relax.

★ Flurry — Mammot, Plant Island

Flurry is a bit of a nervous wreck, well, more than a bit. The poor monster's tried every trick in the book to be more confident and assertive but nothing seems to work. If it wasn't for their friend group - consisting of Minervaa, Hayzel and Kat - they probably wouldn't leave the Castle at all. Somehow (probably from Glitch) they managed to get their paws on a book written by humans about ghosts, and now they're obsessed with the idea of finding one.

★ Kat — Rare T-Rox, Plant Island

Kat is the middle ground and mediator of their friend group: not as impulsive as Minervaa and Hayzel but not as anxious as Flurry. Though they offer advice when asked, it's common for them to just take a step back when the rest of the group starts doing something silly. It's not that they don't like the chaos; they'd just rather watch it than be a part of it. They think Wublins are, like, the coolest ever.

★ Morton — Toe Jammer, Plant Island

Morton is the annoying, smug, "I'm smarter than you and I know it" type, so it's surprising that Bytee of all monsters would form a friendship with them! Maybe they both like to think they're the only two intelligent monsters on the island. They always wear their sunglasses - even indoors or at night - and have dreams of making a found footage horror one day.

They have helped discover many new things, and is even rumoured to have been part of the original group of monsters that freed the Tribal Island Kayna! They haven't been seen in a long time, but Minervaa might have some stories to tell you about them.

:3 sure thing! i love talking about these guys. they started as my beam saber characters tragedy ("my crew was destroyed by a bigger faction") and i've sort of been expanding them out from there.

the dandy highwaymen are a crew of 8 (9 including jammer, but he doesnt join until about 8 years into them being a crew) of misfits with dissociative disorders. they steal mechas and fence them, or break them down to use for parts. the star sector they're in is in the midst of a cold war between a few huge factions that we don't actually see much of. they usually operate in a 'colder' part of the sector - one with no proxy wars, which is treated as a training ground for soldiers for those proxy wars - but stole a mech known as the 'showstopper' from the front lines. that's the heartstealer, which fluke kept. this mech was a prototype that was going to end up drastically flipping the war into one faction's favour, so of course they noticed, and so sent an agent to infiltrate the crew and send a message that they're not to be fucked with by utterly destroying them and publicizing that destruction in a way that would make similar crews ... nervous about whether or not they had their own mole.

web serial will be in the style of various heists - i'm hoping to hit somewhere between baby driver + now you see me + marielda (friends at the table season) with some character-driven stuff filling out the gaps in between. its a silly tragedy/comedy thing as the audience obviously will have more information than the characters, with some significant romance/mystery/sci-fi mecha bullshit thrown in there. there's a lot of stuff i still need to figure out logistically (which is difficult because this is also a prequel to my fiance's beam saber game and i dont want to make hir reveal too much to me :P) but i enjoy heist stuff and i think superpowering it with mechs rocks.

fluke, it/its, it/she if youre feeling Dangerous. a hotshit driver that has a program that can let it operate mechs as if they all had the same controls. its an extremely volatile and intensely emotional person who is just the definition of Hot Mess; it has a thing about being remembered/special.

forge, he/him. forge is the mastermind behind everything and extremely a control freak. he's a bit too logical and a bit too rational. he's also a mechanic, and repairs/dismantles all the mechs. he's extremely good at Making Plans and Leading People but isn't super good at anything else. him and fluke are married, and they met when they were little kids. they started the dandy highwaymen together.

windf4ll / windfall, it/its. this guy is more my fiance's blorbo than mine but i like it so its ok. its an AI that accidentally came into existence when forge + fluke were about 13/14, shortly before they started the highwaymen, because forge left a file running. it's very persecutorial in nature TO forge and cares... immensely about fluke, probably because those two were constantly arguing about whether or not to let it keep living. its very silly funny and also like, insanely fucking powerful.

jackdaw, he/they. jackie is a time traveler, but you're not supposed to know that ;P. they're a very people-focused person, and they really do know how to talk to and keep everyone distracted. in fact, he might talk a Little too much. but that's okay. he's the face/grifter/conartist type of their little group, and has a bad habit of 'savescumming' (kind of works like this) through every moment of his life to try to find the right way to go. they try to present as Very Cool.

lilac, she/they. lilac joined pretty early because she can kind of see the future, a little bit? she can affect fate in a huge way and it was less those guys seeking her out and more her coming to them. she sort of presented herself as knowing So Much Shit and having a lot of control over augmented reality and reality in general, and then was like :) our futures are linked. you're making a crew. i'm joining you. again like this happens when they're all 15 so its kind of funny as hell

laika + tomb joined together, they're kind of inseparable a bit. they'd been hid out on the moon of a planet that TDH's first score - an auction, not a mech stealing thing :P - was on. they were trying to steal back one of laika's inventions and forge + fluke were both impressed while lilac sort of was jsut like teehee... :). so they joined. they both use all pronouns iirc and are sort of a study in the inversion of being too grounded in the world (using social connection as a conduit and not paying attention to yourself) and being too up in your own head (making/creating things). this is also why tomb is a beamsaber giant killer (doesn't have a mech, rips them apart with their bare hands) while laika is a luminary (constantly making new technology).

laika is very bubbly and silly and uh. well. she's also someone who pushes tech/her body specifically very far. 1.) shes a biohacker. 2.) uhhh. well. th. th. it has dog ears

ghost joined arounnnd when they were all 18ish, about 2 years give or take before our story will be starting. she's very easily given to. idk how to describe this... pushing people away or not allowing them to get in super close? but not in a particularly assholeish or even all that obvious way. they were a lonely kid who grew up with the notion that relationships will tie you to bad situations and a lot of her arc is learning that while that can be true it is still important to trust yourself + others. also she can teleport :thumbs up:

aaaand jammer was the head of a squad from the hotseat of the war, the panopticon. he was sent in to play double agent (leaving his sister in charge of that squad which is basically like. i don't know what you'd call the equiv of a black site as a squad but think that. super secret blackops spy type shit that gets its hands Extremely dirty). he's the son of a richguy as well. ofc tdh don't know this. hes kind of the worst in a very pretentious and smarmy way but its ok hes my guy. he kind of ends up falling in love w/ fluke + trusting the rest of TDH and having a pretty huge conflict internally about whether or not he wants to go through with killing them or try to get them out... too bad that his sister both holds the reigns of the panopticon, that she has the asset of a living weapon, and that she does not fucking like him.

I definitely see that vision especially with Evan and Jammer. That kind of feeling is what I hoped to capture in "forgets the difference between romantic and platonic love" and Jammer's whole paragraph! /nm

I have always been a strong evan sam platonic bestfriends enjoyer. I also think them in a qpr would be lovely! What moved the needle to down bad in this analysis was that I think the performers Brennan and Danielle are trying to hint at a romantic thing happening with them. Not that I think the things they are doing are inherently romantic, but I feel like they're probably playing it that way? So I leaned into that. But I will never consider it "settling" if they are "just" platonic or qpr. I adore them.

I also truly could not tell you why I said K was down bad for Sam, that one was more silly than not. I remember getting the vibe but 0 evidence LMAO /lh

Sam and Evan: need no explanation. Neither of them have confessed to each other but COME ON. whether or not you think they Should be together, there is no way at this point that danielle and brennan are unaware of what their characters are doing which is falling in love. on screen in front of us.

Sam and K: this is where it gets less obvious-- I can't remember exactly why but K in the last episode just felt so down bad to me. Even before last ep, I was starting to see a future where Evan and Sam got together and K was really fond of Sam "totally by proxy" (see K and Evan later).

Evan and Jammer: this one I struggle with if I'm being so honest, so I decided to make them struggle with it too. If you think either of them would ever know what was happening you'd be wrong in my personal opinion.

K and Evan: they're in love. I'm sorry. Not saying they're in a healthy or stable relationship but they are in fact in love. I'm part of the theory that Evan broke up with K and if you've seen his face this season he's dead in the water for them.

Jammer and Sam: he has no idea what's in his brain about Sam. I didn't put an arrow back because I don't know what she feels about him in my head so I didn't even want to make her confused.

Similarly, Jammer and K: I have no read on them. I can however see K being at least platonically into Jammer (they seemed a little too into the Weugan thing). But that's just a thought. A film thought.

Just had the wildest interaction on AJPW

I went to Mt Shiveer to dig for fossils and instead found a gold mine. I get in and a crows of jammers is on the ice. Nothing new, people have been jumping on that ice since there’s been ice to jump on. They yell at me to join them to break the ice, and I do.

But as a veteran jammer, I felt like managing some expectations. You never know if younger jammers are aware of what’s real and what’s rumor, you know? So I told them, “Lol it’s not gonna break tho”

This one kid gets so mad at me and shouts “YOU SHOULD JUST LEAVE OR SHUT YOUR MOUTH”

I get off the ice at this point. This is gonna be so much more fun to watch. I’m sitting with this black and pink phantom who asks how the ice feels, and the same kid is still going off.

Among the things this kid said are “Do you know you can leave?”

“Do you need your mommy to help you?”

“Shut your mouth” (again)

“Just log off.”

“I hope you got coal this year”

Like damn kid. You probably still believe in the nameless jammer, huh.

Iunno it’s just funny to me. Having been that aggressive kid once, it’s like seeing a dark mirror. Also they called me a bully when everything i said was neither directed at them, nor negatively inclined. I was making neutral and true statements, and then being silly. I said coal was tasty and that i wanted to nap on the ice. They’ll grow up one day and laugh about that.

Unless they’re actually my age.

Told you guys I’d ramble in due time.

I absolutely adore Bravely Default 2. It came at a really bad time cos I can’t waste 70 hours on a jrpg, but well, it’s too late to be concerned about that now. And as is tradition with me obsessing over a new game / show / whatever, you’ll basically find a fullblown review disguised as ramblings right under the cut. Be aware that I’m gonna talk about EVERYTHING, so spoilers are a given. Some maybe even for the previous Bravely Default games.

Also, if you wanna talk about this game in any capacity, hit me up, I’m DESPERATE to talk more about it.

Just for reference on how long this is gonna be, I made a voice recording while driving to remember all the points I wanna make, and that recording is almost 2 hours long. I did cut it down but still, this is gonna be a lot.

I’ll start off with the things that actually bugged me about the game, since there are only 3 things that really bothered me. First of, I really don’t like that you can name Seth. He has too much personality to be a self insert and player integration is not that big of a part in the game that this decision can be justified. It wouldn’t bother me that much if it didn’t leave a bad mark on the ending. First of all, we were robbed of Gloria desperately shouting for Seth, which makes the impact work less, and it’s just so prevalent that the name can’t be said because you have all the normal sound design going. If they’d just let the credits still play I wouldn’t have batted an eye, but because every other sound comes in it’s so obvious they’re just silently shouting in this scene, which makes it look silly. Like I said, this decision is more a detriment than an addition, and it’s a shame it casts a shadow on an otherwise heartfelt ending.

Speaking about lost potential, the other thing that really bothers me is the lost potential in certain plot points and character conclusions. I mainly mean Adam and Edna here. Both of them have been built up to be these formidable foes but they just, die. If it was just Adam I’d be fine with it, since you expect Edna to backstab him and be the actual big bad of the story, but I cannot fathom why they dropped Edna this HARD. If not Edna herself, I don’t understand why we don’t get more of a reaction from the Fairies and especially Adelle. I mean, Edna was her sole reason she left for her journey in the first place, then Edna dies and that’s it? No part where she grieves for a second? No concern from the others about Adelle? Mind you, I haven’t finished all the Sidequests, so maybe there actually is one in which this is addressed, but I think even just a Party Chat after Bad End 1 would have been sufficient to show how Adelle suddenly feels about the loss of Edna. It would have made Bad End 2 / The Secret Ending even more impactful, because, yeah, of course, you kinda know Adelle isn’t going to turn her back on fairy kind, but one of the reasons she doesn’t leave is because if Enda didn’t get a happy ending, then she shouldn’t either. It would have been amazing foreshadowing if she showed this sentiment before this scene happened. Other than that, it’s a shame that we know so little about Edna, or rather, how she became “bad”. I get she’s supposed to be corrupted by the Night’s Nexus, but how did it even come to this? It can’t have been a gradual thing, after all, Adelle says Edna was always good natured and then just disappeared one day. Really would have loved seeing more of that plot point.

Ok, last gripe I have, some choices in the soundtrack and sound design. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the OST, and I will get to that, but damn, whatever Revo used for the lead instrument in Wiswald hurts my ears. It’s a really good track, but I always have to turn down my volume because these high pitched sounds physically hurt. And for sound design. Dude, the Night’s Nexus is the least threatening, nightmare fueled abomination that ever existed. I get that its growl is kinda supposed to be layered with Edna’s or sth, but it, it just sounds silly. If they went the route of just swinging between different voices or began distorting it from phase to phase, it would have been fine. But the choice they made really made an otherwise creepy design just absolutely silly.

Ok, enough jammering, on to the good stuff. Like I said, there’s going to be a lot, so I’ll try to be brief in each aspect.

Gameplay

I honestly like the new battle mechanics more than the old ones. This individual, turn based system feels way more dynamic and it’s easier to strategies in battles. Because nothing made me more angry than setting up for a heal and the enemy suddenly being faster than me and killing my healer. Now it’s easier to plan ahead a bit.

I also found myself experimenting more with the jobs. Not sure what it really is, but none of the party members leaning more towards certain types of jobs and the job leveling being way faster probably helped.

And I know some people get up in arms because the boss sometimes can be a real pain in the ass (looking at you pope dude), I still found it very interesting getting around counters or even using these counters as a benefit. As an example, I made Adelle my main physical fighter and gave her lots of counter abilities to help her profit from being countered by enemies themselves. Now, she can attack enemies, get countered, automatically evade that counter and earn a BP at the same time. Made a lot of boss fights way easier and fun to exploit.

Music

Ok, I will try my best to be really, really brief, because in my recording this part takes up almost 40 minutes. Anyways, Revo might have just become one of my absolute favorite composers ever. I don’t know what kind of magic he used, but I initially wasn’t that impressed with the OST, but every time I listened to it, I just fell in love harder and harder. Before getting into specifics, I wanna highlight the two things that made me love this OST overall. First of all, this soundtrack almost seems like a refinement of BD’s. While losing some of that fairytale vibe, it sounds even more fantasy now. And in contrast to the original, this almost sounds more balanced? Like, BD’s OST felt high energy throughout, BD2’s on the other hand manages to find a good balance between high and low energy pieces. Like, the character themes or battle themes are absolute hype, but the overworld themes are a lot calmer and easier to listen to while exploring. Second big point that makes this soundtrack amazing is that Revo is an absolute god at using emotional progression/storytelling and leitmotifs in his songs. And heck, do I love myself my leitmotifs. You’ve got some obvious ones, like the final battle theme in which all the character themes and other leitmotifs are integrated. Then you got some maybe more subtle once, just like how the overworld themes are just the main theme, just a lot calmer and using the lead instruments of the towns of the areas.

But my absolute favourites gotta be the character themes and the main theme. I love how fitting the themes for the characters are and in general, each of them is such a bop. At first I prefered Elvis’, because I sure am a sucker for jazzy vibes, but over time Adelle’s became my fav. It’s just something about the trumpets, and how the theme almost sounds a bit melancholic and bittersweet, that drew me in. And considering her story, mostly her bad end, that the bittersweet tone really fits.

Then there’s the main theme. Just like BD’s it shouts “triumphant anthem” and it definitely gives you a very familiar vibe, but I’d argue it has even better emotional progression. Heck, the first time I heard the music start up in the reveal trailer, I didn’t have to look at the screen to know this is gonna be a BD game. Also, the credit song version had me weeping at the true end. I’m someone who’s very easily affected by music (if me shouting about soundtracks on this blog wasn’t proof enough) and just hearing that ending song, getting the after credits scene, just for the second credits to start as a freaking duet. Dude, at that point I just started sobbing, I’m not gonna lie. Just this little part showed how much Revo knows how to put emotion in a song and also write it in such a way that he can elicit strong, emotional reactions from you too. 

Story

People have been complaining how the story is too boring and kinda disappointing in comparison to the last one, but I just think the games tried to accomplish different things here. Since the BD series is a celebration of old, classic jrpgs, “cliche” storytelling is a given. Though, BD did throw a lot of meta stuff in there too. BD2 in contrast just feels like a direct execution of that initial idea. It feels familiar, it feels comfy and it feels safe. Except for the little things with the endings and then overwriting the Nexus’ “save file”, BD2 doesn’t really get that meta, which is totally fine. It doesn’t try to reinvent or innovate anything, it just wants to be a fantasy story, that might be cliche, but still fun and enjoyable in its own right.

I’d also argue that the pacing is a lot better than the old game, because with BD I sometimes found myself skipping through scenes to get on with the story. Not that this game didn’t have me rushing through stuff as well, but I found it kept my intrigue way better than the original.

Characters

Next to the music, this is the part that I absolutely love the most. While, yes, they did lose a lot of potential with some characters, mostly with the villains, the main cast is just so much fun. I love these 4 dorks so, so much.

I honestly can’t stand how much people compare them to the original cast. Yes, ofc, I’ve been doing my fair share of comparisons too, but calling these four a more boring version of BD’s party physically hurts me. Because except for some initial impressions, the Heroes of Light are completely different from our beloved Warriors of Light.

While yes, Seth and Gloria give off strong Tiz and Agnes vibes at first, they both grow into such different characters that they’re not really comparable. I think this shows with Adelle and Elvis even more. I do understand how people could compare Adelle and Edea, since they’re both the feisty girl type, but I can’t understand how people can see Ringabel and Elvis as the same character type. While those two are the “suave” party members, they act so differently from another. And that’s honestly apparent the first time you meet them. 

Anyways, I love these 4 so much.

We technically don’t know a lot about Seth at all, but they manage to pull so much out of just the fact that he’s a sailor, that it makes him really endearing, really fast.

I was kinda disinterested with Gloria at first, because again, the initial impression was Agnés2.0, but she grew on me a lot. Gloria is way more hard headed and honestly sassy in comparison to Agnés and I absolutely adore it.

Elvis. Elvis, my man. I love this fantasy scottosh wizard so, so much. He’s such a ridiculous character but so endearing at the same time. You got all this dorkiness, with him setting himself on fire as a student, him doing god knows what for a good drink or just laughing danger and prejudice in the face. But then you got his super empathetic and caring side. Mind you, most of his wise moments come from quoting Lady Emma, but still, as much as he’s hopeless with certain social situations, he’s actually still really good at reading the room and playing things smart. He’s a smart and powerful idiot, which makes him a danger to everyone and himself, and I love him for it. (I also can’t believe they called him Lesley I MEAN COME ON)

And then there’s Adelle. I liked her from the start, but I didn’t think she would stick out to me. I think now she’s my favourite character. Not even talking about all the stuff that happens in chapter 3 and onward, because these story threads are awesome in their own right, but there’s just something about her personality that’s interesting and appealing to me. Like I said, I’m not surprised people compare her to Edea, I did too at first, but while Edea walks very close to the line of a Tsundere, I was really surprised that Adelle is, well, not a Tsundere at all. Yeah, of course she’s putting Elvis down a lot, but that stems more from her preventing his ego from going to his head than her being all embarrassed. No, Adelle is actually really well adjusted when it comes to communication. While it’s hilarious that she and Elvis met with her chucking her shoes at him, the two just got along well right from the start. Adelle in general has this really open and helpful personality, but also doesn’t shy away from putting her foot down, even if that sometimes comes out as an embarrassed sputter. She’s also the mother hen of the group. She looks out for the other three and gets concerned about them real fast. 

I dunno, Adelle just really grew on me over the course of this game, and then her kinda being paired with Elvis too, as partners and as partners, makes me like her even more. Because as much as I like their personalities individually, I like their character dynamic even more. I honestly love the relationships between all four of them a lot. You really feel them grow closer as friends and all the little character sidequests just always made me really happy.

Conclusion

You might not believe me, but I really held back there. This could probably have been 3 times its length. As much as I love this game, it’s of course not perfect. It struggles and flails in some parts a lot and it certainly has some aspects that might turn people off. But for me, it was just a very familiar and comfy game that didn’t necessarily deliver anything new, but that told its story in such a way that it still got me excited to keep going. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the conclusion of the story actually got me to cry. While not groundbreaking, this game is highly enjoyable and leaves you absolutely satisfied at the end.

Asa Emory / The Collector

with 100%. he already uses technology regularly so he’d definitely be on board for some improvement. considering a certain someone had the audacity to break all of his precious displays.

better motion triggers? better cameras? sign. him. up. he’s an academic so he’d have no problem figuring out how everything works. just give him a few minutes and he’ll have everything set up in no time.

starts tinkering on his traps and upgrades the state of his collection immediately. his tarantulas are finally going to get better enclosures! sturdier tank displays for the sewn bodies! huzzah!

asa is already dangerous with the bare minimum - now equipped with better gear, he’s truly horrifying. he’s going to be much better at not being caught. let’s be honest, he’ll probably get drunk with power in the near future.

he is, most definitely, going to put trackers on his victims. no the shock collars are not for his beloved dogs, silly! those are for his victims too.

Brahms Heelshire

WITH, all the way. he is going to be so, so dangerous with modern technology. once he figures out how to get wifi, it’s game over. this man is LOADED so he’s going to have the best stuff too.

like asa, he would need little to no help at all. brahms is naturally very studious and he’s got all the time in the world.

two words: hidden cameras. out with peering into rooms through the holes in the walls, in with having a designated area for all his monitors so he can indulge in all his voyeuristic glory in the comfort of his man-cave.

in true, awful bastard man fashion, he’s most likely going to J.O in his man-cave while watching his victim in the shower. maybe he’ll have a little shrine in there too, complete with distasteful pictures.

Jesse Cromeans / Chromeskull

WITH, no doubt. all aboard the technology train! this man also uses quite a lot already and could definitely use an upgrade. cosmetic surgery? sign him up. his face could use a bit more work.

much easier to find victims and track them down if they manage to escape. digital footprints are godsend. oh, you have a security system? he has a jammer. he’s always one step ahead.

plays around in the deep web. let’s just say he’d one of the best if he chooses to be a hitman online. if not, that’s where he’ll get all his latest tech from. weapons, gadgets, possible candidates. what more could you ask for? (LAID TO REST SEQUEL HELLO ?????)

he probably won’t ditch his knives or his mask. he would have a fancy-ass gun with a silencer on him at the most. while there are a lot of weapons in the market now that would do the job more efficiently, jesse would want to stick to his roots.

would he go digital with his recordings? depends if he’s sentimental and would prefer keeping physical tapes. or, he could be hosting his own red room and has everything backed up. (I am once again asking for a laid to rest sequel that goes this route)

BONUS: uses text-to-speech to tickle his fucked-up sense of humour. nothing more terrifying than a slasher taunting you in the monotone google voice.

Sinclair Brothers / Bo, Vincent and Lester

if possible - they’d take advantage. the only way they’d be able to get new tech is by looting their victims. bo is strongly against buying anything they don’t need. (mostly because they don’t have a lot of spending money to begin with.) sure, generators would be nice but why are they so fucking expensive?

the most they could potentially get would be fancy camping gear and a few gadgets. because of the shitty reception they would either have to memorize all the decent spots (sort of useful, so they can keep the victims away from it) or just ditch the cellphones altogether. lester would definitely keep one for himself, along with a number of “cool” things he can find.

if they’re lucky they could score a couple of walkie-talkies. would be useful in theory, but the sibling bickering wouldn’t be worth it - at least in vincent’s opinion. (he won’t turn it off, but have the volume at the minimum)

bo could improve the place with camping gear, tinker with it a bit to make ambrose appear more realistic. he could definitely figure out how to set the lights to turn on and off at certain times with the right materials. and even more moving wax figures! if they were to score hunting gear, he might even set up traps.

vincent is the true neutral here. he acknowledges the funky little gadgets, might study with them for a while and just kind of leave it at that. (if a victim happens to have a drawing tablet however, that’s another story.) lester would be the most enthusiastic out of the three, while bo really just wants to make the most out of all the junk.
