Hellbound (Season 2)
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Hellbound (Season 2, 2024, South Korea)
Director: Yeon Sang Ho
Writer: Yeon Sang Ho & Choi Gyu Seok (based on their own webtoon)
Mini-review:
I feel like I'm one of the few people who loved the first season of Hellbound. It used an original and terrifying concept to showcase a fascinating exploration of themes like religious fanaticism, sectarianism and media manipulation. And this second (and final?) season delivers the goods once again. Yeon Sang Ho continues to be a master director of action scenes, plus the performances he gets from this cast are simply superb. On top of that, the CGI is much better than it was in the first one; I'm glad they made an effort to improve on that. I'm sure many people will stay mad at the show for refusing to give clear answers until the very end, but I think that makes the viewer feel the same chaos as the characters. If this is really the end, I have to say I really enjoyed what this dark fantasy had to offer.

UNMASKED
GENRES: Drama, Mystery
SUMMARY: No matter how hard you try to hide your crimes, the TV show Trigger will set the records straight.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Lollipops, sex toys, stakeouts, building explosions, psycho teenagers, questionable sculptures, survivor’s guilt, legacy trauma, condom drawers, hidden cameras, violent chaebols, drones, scuba diving, and pet psychics.
HOT TAKE: Honestly we couldn't ask for better ushers on this emotional rollercoaster of a show than Kim Hye Soo and Jung Sung Il. They are acting perfection through any emotion they need to convey.
Trigger warning: This show has some sharp scenes of stalking and underage abuse which many find unsettling. There is a heaping pile of justice doled out though, so if you can, bear with the violence for the results.

DRAMA REVIEW | The Auditors (2024)
Tumblr media
I wish more dramas where like The Auditors. For starters, this drama is perfect in length: twelve episodes, no loose ends, actual character development, well paced. An airshot script that knew where the story and characters where going, its strengths and weaknesses, and that took advantage of all of it in order to bring one of the most entertaining kdramas of this year.
Yes, the story following a department of internal auditors at a large construction conglomerate is highly entertaining. That goes to show that it doesn't matter what the subject matter of a drama is, as long as the people in charge of production, casting, directing and acting know what they are doing and have a clear picture, it's a win.
The cinematography and camera work is fast paced, as it should, for this is an action drama full of intrigue, betrayal, murder and corruption. Like any story of this genre you have the typical archetypes in each key player but the performances manage to make them feel fresh and likeable. Some characters are meant to be more nuance and complex, those were a treat to watch as we dwell into their backstory and motivations.
The list of guest stars this show has is mind-blowing and I don't think enough people are talking about it. Every episode or so a familiar face shows up for a particular story arc. It varies from a recently famous actress to a veteran actor, character actor that you might not know their name but you definitely know their work. It's wild the amount of talented people involved in this project.
Overall, I found The Auditors to be a really solid drama and I recommend it.

Okay, so Jung Woo Sung had a girlfriend for over 10 years. He cheated on her with Moon Gabi and got her pregnant.
I was so confused at first and didn't understand what all the hoopla that was surrounding this situation. Cause even in the Korean Entertainment Industry now, out of wedlock pregnancies are kind of common. It's just that the public puts a lot of pressure on the celebrities to marry, just for them to divorce like 3 or 4 years later. So basically Jung Woo Sung is standing up against that public pressure and saying he will care for his child, but he won't marry Moon Gabi. Which I kinda like. I wish more Korean celebrities would do this.
I understand that in South Korea, they care so much about the traditional way of doing things, but now it seems like it's kinda hurting the country. The birth rate is low. Many Korean women don't want to have children, because according to their society you have to be married and have to be put in this role of being a housewife and also cater to your in-laws. I'm pretty sure there are some Korean women that would love to have children, but are 100% against being married.
As for Jung Woo Sung, if he has been with a woman for over 10 years, at his old age and still hasn't proposed marriage, then that man isn't trying to get married. Any woman messing with him should know that and not be delusional. I feel like Moon Gabi thought she had hit the jackpot by getting pregnant by him and is now pissed that he won't marry her. Which he doesn't have to do and he shouldn't be apologizing for not wanting to marry someone. His responsibility is only for that child, not the mother.
I hope Moon Gabi isn't the one that leaked this. Cause she should have known that in South Korea, the men are mostly protected, but not the women. The only one that will suffer from this scandal is her, not Jung Woo Sung. I mean look at all the scandals that Lee Byung-Hun has been involved in and that man is still one of the top paid actors in the industry.

The Korean public is losing their minds over the fact that Jung Woo Sung had a baby with Moon Gabi and doesn't want to marry her. He basically said he will pay child support and that's it.
My American self can't even comprehend why this is a scandal. Cause this literally happens every single day all across the world. Pregnancy doesn't have to equal marriage. Why doesn't South Korea understand that?
I'm also seeing comments that Moon Gabi should have kept it quiet. Because apparently she embarrassed her child by saying who the father is. That right there is the problem. Koreans want to be sneaky and keep everything quiet.
Neither of these people will lose anything in reality. Moon Gabi will still model and Jung Woo Sung will still act.
Moon Gabi is pretty much for the Western fashion brands anyway. Cause she definitely doesn't fit Korea's rigid beauty standard. She should take her baby and that child support money and move to Paris or NYC.

Under the Queen's Umbrella
Tumblr media
This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.
When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.
Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.
Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.
Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.
Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.
As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.
I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.
I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.
I truly love this story!
