Journey to the West: The Love Story of the Great Sage (2016) 话西游之大圣情史
Director: Jian Liuxiang Starring: Li Yihan / Lin Wanqi Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Duration: 61 minutes Type: Reimgaing
Summary:
A thought of delusion can turn you into a demon, a thought of kindness can turn you into a human, a thought of enlightenment can turn you into a monk, and a thought of awakening can turn you into a Buddha. This is a mythological story that has been passed down through the ages, and it is also a brand new adventure and interpretation. Shi Gan Dang, a courier, is straightforward and funny. He travels back to the story of Journey to the West by accident and becomes the incarnation of Sun Wukong, just like a game. However, the situation of the White Bone Demon family that he and Tang Seng faced was different from that in the novel: there was a cruel big boss who sealed Sun Wukong, and there was also a kind-hearted little white bone demon, Xiao Qian, who could not bear to hurt people. Shi Gan Dang and Xiao Qian developed feelings that transcended human and demon. At the same time, Tang Seng was also in danger and was imprisoned by the White Bone Demon King, and was about to be eaten by the gluttons.

Hi I don’t know the difference between imagine or hcs ; I was wondering can I hear your thoughts on yandere monkey king x reader who’s the white bone lady please ; love to hear your thoughts (sorry if my English isn’t good 💗)
My thoughts, uh?
My thoughts... well, my thoughts are...
Before being the Lady Bone Demon, Reader was a mere, small, iey kind of spirit, like a fairy. She wasn't anything big, just a small creature that lived in the cold, turned to water during the hotter seasons, and waited until the cold came back and snow gave her her true form.
My thought is that she once met a small monkey, an intelligent one, and they became friends.
Every winter, he liked to pass it with her, playing and learning about the fun and the joy that even winter can bring. And he learned the pain that spring brings and the longing for her return in summer.
Years pass, and he changes. He became a dangerous demon, his name now Sun Wukong, and he had learned a new trick: how to make an ice spirit never wither.
My thoughts are that, at first, you found it quite nice to enjoy the hotter season, the flowers of spring, the fruits of the summer, and the fire-colored leaves of autumn, but as time passed, you wondered how long this thing would last... You miss the waters, your sisters, and your brothers... You would like to go back.
"Back?" He snarls, "Don't you like my gift?! Is this how you treat me?! YOUR KING?!"
But he wasn't your king, and you didn't like his way of acting.
And he didn't like your defiance, so he hurt you badly.
He cured you, using water and ice, but you remembered... and you started to wonder what was happening with him. Since when did he want to control you and keep you close to him? Since when have his eyes become dark? Since when did the small and friendly monkey become the demon that declared to love you like life itself?
You didn't want to give in; you were proud enough to not fall for threats and aggression. No matter any time he hurt you and rebuilt you, you didn't lose a single grain of hope to being free.
So, when the diamond ring came to capture him, you secretly asked for your father, the cold wind of the north, to guide it against him. Your father responded, and not only him.
When the celestials founded you, the ice fairy that the great Sage cherished as his own Queen, they found someone that was overjoyed by his fall and asked nothing but for your freedom!
But the damage was too deep now. He had fed you those damn pills and peaches; now not even the sacred fire could melt you... You felt helpless, near to giving up on your hope...
But the Mother of the West gave you another chance.
"There's a mountain, not far from the gate of the west," she spoke. "Go there and act in my name. Protect people, help them, and act as a guardian. Once your work is done, you'll find your immortality revoked."
History is written by the winners. Your name wasn't about death and bones; it was one about keeping company men in their last moment, helping them pass the threshold, and being there when the Black and White Impermanence came. You were there, guiding children in their home when they were lost, fending them from the dangers of the night. You were there to take away the tears from the face of the young lady.
You saved women that wanted to take away their lives; you were a saint.
Your name was Lady of White Reverance.
But he had to come back, did he? He had to meet your gaze when you kindly offered to help his master by bringing him food and water, remembering then all the years of torture, of imprisonment, and of seclusion by him. And he was fast to attack you, claiming you were a demon that wanted to eat his master. a lie, a dirty lie; he even tried to take you away again, bring you back to Mount Huaguo, promising to finish his journey and come back for you, to his wife. But you refused, and that angered him again.
Only this time, you were strong enough to fend him off.
In the story, he had killed you, but the truth was that you got away, and he is still alive, now searching for you.

Left my own art, right commissioned from peacchip
ok ok I think I've vaguely figured out some of my OCs backstory for Black Myth Wukong.
She goes by the name Oz (奥兹 Àozī ) - it's not her "real" name, jsut what she prefers to be called. You can find more BMW verse info and OC fanart under the tag Cepheus Baskerville. A head's up that I've had her since 2017 and I throw her into any fandom I am obsessed with, so her backstroy gets adjusted according to my current obsession.
She is a modern OC that gets isekai'd into fantasy ancient China. Oz has met the Monkey King before as a kid, spending summer at her great-grandfather's house, and he has some random sorts of knick knacks lying around in the attic, one of them being a magic object that serves as a portal between two worlds. He was buried under the mountain by then already, she'd bring snacks and food and cake over and visit him and he'd tell her stories of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. Also time flows differently between the two worlds, what is a day in her world sometimes it would be weeks or months or years that passes for Sun Wukong. Being the dumb 5 years old kid she is, she promises that she will save the Monkey King one day. He chuckles at the declaration and plays along with it.
And then summer ends and her great-grandfather passes away, and she grows up and forgets about the Monkey King, at this point it's just a vaguely rememebered childhood memory of an imaginary friend of a lonely girl that loved mysteries and stories about heroes and adventures. to be honest, SWK also forgets about her LOL like my guy was buried under a mountain for 500 years and he probably watched a lot of mortals growing up and passing away, she was just another one of them albeit an odd one out. Thinks she is already pushing up daisies by the time he got out under the mountain and journeys west
Fast forward to when she turns 2X years old and inherits her great-granfathers house and everything that is inside, finds said magical portal object again and what dya know, time to fullfill her promise and """save""" Sun Wukong, or help his reincarnation on his journey to obtain all artifacts.
As to why her great-grandfather has a magical object like that - maybe her ancestors were from that other world and escaped into this one through said object (probably because the Celestial Court is being a dick) and settled down and got married and had kids. Maybe there is some magic in her blood that has been dormant for centuries and with being back in fantasy ancient China, it slowly becomes active again? I can imagine that sometimes when they bump into Celestial Court members they'd be like "you seem awfully familiar your face but idk why and I don't like that feeling". probably gets called a traitor by the court a lot because of the actions of her ancestors LOL
#the ham talks#straight up stealing the way Oz is written in Chinese from Genshin LFMAO#me: idk i dont wanna share backstories#also me: WELL OKAY SO HERE IS THE ENTIRE LORE#anyway been thinking about this a lot the past couple of days#oooh i should do the relationship graph thing with DOxOC and SWK x OC#cepheus baskerville#black myth wukong#black myth wukong oc

What inspired you monkie boi's design ? Any specific monkey or take on the great sage ?
I have answered the same question on my main blog when I didn't have this one so I will explain again! ✨ So my version of Sun Wukong was mainly inspired by the Monkey King Reborn movie bc it was the first movie about Monkey King that I saw! I just loved his facial markings and his edgy personality so much! He was definitely the main inspiration for my Wukong's look!
At the same time, I was introduced to Lego Monkey Kid when I realized "Hold up. This seems familiar somehow-" and I found out it was inspired by Journey To The West. I don't remember the very first time I saw something about JTTW but I knew the basic stuff from the story. However, I didn't know who Sun WUkong was until I saw that movie. Then I got interested (obviously) in Sun Wukong's character and I saw these paintings and art of him and I sunk into the rabbit hole.
Then I just happen to jump back on Tumblr to see some art of Wukong and AU's and I just loved it! So many talented artists are out there doing God's work with their own AU's and I can only name a few of them (@journey-to-the-au, @digitalagepulao, @semisolidmind, @sixteenthchapel, @sunny-days-and-warm-mournings) bc there are more! But those were the first artist I just happen to fall right into their traps and here I am. Still trapped 😩
But I think when it comes to my son's design I just looked a lot of art and references and just tried to find a line that I feel comfortable drawing many times (hint, why his clothes are simple with no pattern) and focus on other things. Just trying what colors and clothes feel good. Trying to find the vibe that I'm looking for him ✨
So yeah. I think I just happened to find it again after many many years and now that I'm older I got interested. I still don't know the story THAT deeply and that's the reason I made AU so I can stay on safe waters 😭 I hope this answered your question!

I just had a thought about your Taken Abroad story, what is demon child reader depicted like in the Journey To The West Story in LMK modern times? Like what would their reputation be?
I have a feeling that a certain Monke would be keeping them safe at Flower Fruit Mountain after he “vanished” (and probably longer before tbh)
I like to think that historical reviews of Y/N’s character are rather… divided. It’s agreed that Sun Wukong, for example, is an analogy for the human mind, creative, powerful, but utterly uncontrollable all the same.
It’s a little more complex for the child.
Some people think of Y/N’s journey as a metaphor for the human capacity to heal- they’re taken as a child from a barbed forest full of monsters and brought to civilization, taught to live and love and be better. The road is hellish and paved with difficulties, but things can get better. People argue that the shift from wild to tame represents the mending of trauma.
Those who disagree might say that, no, Y/N is a historical representation for adoption. They get pulled from an “awful, dangerous” home and put with a doting band of “brothers, and even a father” and gets raised properly by those who actually care about them, not just surrounded by mindless tromping monsters. (Which are interpreted as callous and uncaring parents.)
Others still view the demon child as an analogy for humanity’s ancient affinity for animals and their constant meddling with the lives of fauna. So many of Y/N’s chapters and passages in the book are dedicated to them sympathizing with caged beasts and freeing them, or getting into trouble to save an animal in need.
I like to think that they’re worshipped as a minor deity of animals and beasts, statues displayed prominently at zoos and sanctuaries. In some places, it’s customary to give those statues a pat on the head to bless yourself with good luck and a kind day.
I like to the think that by the present day, Y/N is still only a teenager. They hole up with Wukong and tend to the mountain with him, occasionally heading back to the Emerald Grove to ward off any loggers and poachers- non-lethally, this time.
But mostly…
“Playing something fun?,” the Great Sage asks, ruffling your hair as he leans over your shoulder. “You’ve had that game set aside for a while now, bud.”
“I was saving it for a week like this.” Is your placid return, laying on your back with a veritable storm of monkeys cuddling up to you. Each one is cozily sleeping, sucking up all the warmth they can from your resting form. “Rain’s not gonna clear up for a while.”
“Aww. Is it one of your ‘making friends with monsters’ games, huh?”
“Can it, Wukong… but yeah, it is.”
“Don’t ever change, kiddo. Also, scoot over.”
And then “Brother Wukong” is squishing in beside you, the monkeys shifting their heated puddle to accommodate their beloved king. It leaves you both of you trapped in a storm of fluffy white fur.
“Tell me about your little game,” he says, inviting you to infodump your way through another bleary rainstorm.
For now… things are good. Maybe not always, but at least for today.
And you’re happy.

“Shy Confessions” Pt. 1
Reborn Sun Wukong x Gn Reader
Story by: @queenofroses22
Written by: Lotus_Constallation
When hearing about the great tales of Journey to the West, you’ll often hear the stories of the great and all-mighty Monkey King, also known as Sun Wukong. The great sage equal to heaven, the celestial monkey that was born from a stone and set off to cause mayhem amongst anyone that crossed his path without any concern or hesitation.
You would also hear about the laughingstock of heaven and, honestly, of hell as well. The tales of Zhu Bajie, also known as Pigsy, a man who used to be a heaven official but made the mistake of refusing to believe he’s lightweight when it comes to alcohol, leading to his banishment and being cursed to be a pig demon for all eternity.
It’s also no doubt that you would hear about Tang Sanzang, formally known as Tripitaka, the powerful yet peaceful monk who had set off to fulfill his destiny!
There is also Sha Wujing, also known as Sandy, there’s not much about him but everyone knows he’s a water demon who fought courageously.
And finally, Ao Lie, the white dragon horse, who was also disguised as a white horse for Tripitaka to ride on while they make the hellish adventure to get those scriptures.
All of the people I have listed so far are very obviously well known. Some more than others. All have backstories worth mentioning even if there isn’t much. However, what if I told you there was one other person who, too, followed the demons and the monk on their journey, but you won’t find them in any stories. Not even a brief mention of their name. And that’s because this person was no one special. I apologize profusely, but those are the words I’ve heard from time and time again when I would ask why this person isn’t written down in history like the rest.
Surely, if they were a part of The Journey and were brave enough to follow the rest down the path of chaos and destruction, with a high risk of death, and trusting your life with 3 demons, that in itself is special, no? Unfortunately, people don’t see it that way. If you do not have some sort of spectacular fact about yourself that would capture the eyes of a dozen citizens, then you are nothing but a worthless little pebble under someone’s shoe. It’s a harsh reality.
However, that is why I am here! I am here to tell the tales of {Full Name}, Whether people like it or not, Because I firmly believe that they too deserve to be written down in history, just like the rest! And who knows, maybe you’ll learn a thing or two, but enough chit-chat, Let us begin!
𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪
This story starts with a small village that sits just at the bottom of a mountain. And on this mountain, lived a vicious demon.
The demon had been around for what felt like centuries, and often loved to cause havoc amongst the town’s people. The demon would poison the soil so nothing would grow, destroy stalls, steal from said stalls, smear mud and dirt on any clean laundry, and would run people over with a mysterious carriage. People of the village constantly prayed and prayed to any god to take care of this demon, but upstairs always remained silent. Eventually, after realizing that no one was going to save them, they decided to take matters into their own hands.
Chaos could be heard from a mile away as the townspeople shouted over each other.
“We must slay this demon!” Someone from the crowd shouted.
“With what?! Pitchforks and dainty knives? We’ve all seen what this demon is capable of, what we have won’t do shit!” Another one rebutted.
Throughout all this chaos, a rather average looking person stood off to the side, trying to share what they had to say, but their hushed voice was drowned out by all the other booming voices in the room. It’s quite funny, really. This person, {Name}, spent– heaven knows how many hours practicing what they were going to say, was also the first few to show up, only to be pushed into a corner. And no matter how much they tried to step through the crowd or raise their voice, all their attempts were futile. Eventually, {Name} let out a heavy sigh, before making their way through the crowd to leave through the front door.
Upon stepping outside, {Name} felt the spring breeze gently caress their skin, they inhaled deeply, letting the faint smell of blossoms ease their mind. It was a rather peaceful evening, despite all the ruckus going on in the house behind them. The air wasn’t too hot or too cold, flowers were starting to blossom from all around, the petals and their scent being carried by the wind, and the sun was just starting to set over the horizon, with the skies becoming a mixture of blue, orange, and a dash of red. Honesty, all of it was a sight to see, but sadly, everyone was too frightened to pay it any mind. Who could blame them though, really. With this demon who’s caused nothing but constant dilemmas and chaos for heaven knows how long, it’s no wonder everyone here would be in distress all the time.
{Name} sighed heavily once more before rubbing their temples, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. All the commotion, and the sudden sound of glass breaking was truly starting to get on their nerves. Unfortunately, however, it had always been like this, whenever the town’s people would try to talk about getting rid of this demon, it always ended up getting physical, and In the end, getting nowhere. Honestly, all of it was ridiculous and {Name} was starting to get irritated by it. I mean, that’s why they attempted to be a part of this meeting in the first place. They thought maybe, just maybe, they could take some initiative and try to have everyone think rationally for once, and not be so hostile and rowdy.
Though, I guess looking back on it now, it was stupid to think someone so bashful and run-of-the-mill as them, could make a difference. If they can’t even fake the confidence to take matters into their own hands. Then hell, what good are they? The thought alone made them feel…useless. {Name} tilts their head back, in a poor attempt to keep the tears from falling. However, the tears trickled down their face regardless. Embarrassed by their current state, {Name} took off towards the direction of a nearby forest. They didn’t know where they were going, they didn’t think of how close it was to nightfall. All they could think about was getting to a safe place to let out their woes without any judgment.
𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪
The labored villager continued to run throughout the unfamiliar territory, making impetuous twists and turns for heaven knows how long, trying their best to jump over fallen logs and moss covered rocks, and unaware of their ankles getting little cuts from open thorns and sticks.
{Name} continued on until they found a spot behind a tree, sinking down to the floor as they finally let go of all their sorrows. They didn’t want to continue living like this; Living in constant distress, with nothing ever being solved because everyone was already so stressed out and exhausted from this blasted demon. I mean, what did the people in the village ever do to him? Why must he keep coming back to attack everyone — even children? Is there some sort of unknown history we were all unaware of? Does the demon know something we don’t?
Whatever the case may be, {Name} just wanted it all to end. They couldn’t take another second of living in that village; where the people do nothing but scream and yell at each other and don’t take a second to just think rationally. There needs to be a change before this demon eventually gets bored of terrorizing everyone and does something worse. {Name} wanted to be that change. But they were foolish enough to think that would ever happen. “Why?” {Name} spoke. Their voice low and raspy from crying so much. They looked up at the starry night sky, unable to realize just how long they’ve been crying for. “Why must this happen to us? What did we ever do?” {Name} honestly didn’t know who they were talking to, or if they were even talking to someone at all. Hell, it would be a blessing in itself if their voice was even loud enough to reach anyone. “We have done everything. Prayed, made offerings, dedicated ourselves to you,” {Name’s} voiced a little louder, their face contorted with anger. “So why do you choose to ignore our pleas? Are we simply not worth your time?” A gentle breeze passed by, but {Name} paid it no mind as they waited for a response, a voice. A comforting breeze will do no good, it will not just magically make up for the constant neglect from the Heaven’s. {Name} knows they shouldn’t dare think this way, they know such thoughts would poison their soul, but they felt like they deserve some sort of proper response from someone. Their childhood had been damaged because of this vile creature, they watched as their parents went from kind and caring folks to aggressive and hostile ones. They used to welcome {Name} with loving arms, often trying to encourage them to be more confident in themselves, to not be afraid to stand up for what was right. But slowly, over the years, they started getting more…aggressive and uncaring towards {Name}.
Out of respect, I will not mention the things they have done. Though, I will say that it unfortunately got to the point where {Name} had become very skilled in tending to wounds.
The lonesome village felt another tear prick at the corner of their eyes, their head dropped as the fresh set of tears left little stains on their clothes. Please, just send someone, anyone, to take care of this demon. I would do anything in return, I promise.
…
The rapid crackling of leaves suddenly reverberated around the forest, {Name} nearly jumped out of their skin when they heard it. The lonesome villagers quickly wiped the remaining tears from their face before attempting to see the source of the noise.
From where they were, they managed to see a tall, humanoid figure running as fast as they could, the figure was wearing all black colored clothing so they could’ve easily blended in with the night. The only reason {Name} could see them was because of another figure dressed in all white colored clothing that was lazily thrown over the other one’s shoulder.
“WUKONG!! SAVE ME!!” The person in white yelled.
Without thinking, {Name} got up from their spot and started chasing after the strangers to the best of their ability. Their name wasn’t Wukong, but regardless the stranger was in trouble.
𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪 𓆩ᥫ᭡𓆪
The figure dressed in black was fast, {Name} will tell you that. The figure was jumping around while also making unexpected turns—which threw {Name} off a bit—all while the person in white continued to cry out to someone named Sun Wukong. Which, {Name} had no idea who that was, but they’re assuming Sun Wukong is this guy’s friend. Though, what’s a bit strange is that this guy, despite crying out for help, made little to no effort to fight against the person who was holding him captive.
After what felt like hours, {Name} managed to follow the figure to a cave that was located at the top of the mountain. {Name} heaved while trying to force themselves to walk further up the steep hill. Once at the top, they leaned up against the entrance of the cave, trying to catch their breath. “I wasn’t built for this shit,” they thought.
A moment or two had passed before {Name} looked further into the cave, borrowing the faint moonlight, {Name) couldn’t help but sigh in awe.
The cave was covered in foliage, with a few small waterfalls that flowed down from a few openings in the walls, and the moonlight only gave the place an ethereal glow.

(Artist: Unknown. Source: Pinterest).
{Name} was astonished, never in their life have they ever seen something as elegant as this. It all made {Name} ponder about their own life choices. From their younger years, there were always these rowdy kids who always dismissed the adults' concerns and went as far as they wanted into the woods. The kids offered for {Name} to join them one time, but they timidly refused. Now looking back on it, Perhaps it wouldn’t have hurt to accept their offer.
After what felt like an incense time, {Name} carefully moved towards the cave, the light from the moon slowly warning the further they went, relying on the tiny luminous blue flowers that scattered throughout the cave. As time passed, {Name} couldn’t help but grow more nervous. I mean, what were they going to do? How were they going to save this stranger from someone who could be armed and is undoubtedly stronger then {Name} was, when just prior they were sitting in the dark crying because they can’t even get their voice to go up an octave or two.
Honestly, the smartest thing to do would’ve been to go search for this “Wukong” guy but nOoOo, they just had to prove themselves.
Sighing heavily, {Name} continued on, trying to ease their mind by taking in the scenery. Whoever that black-clad man was, and as horrible as it sounds, {Name} was glad this was the place the man led them to. While they walked, they suddenly came to an opening with a bunch of stone staircases leading in all different directions, leading to multiple different rooms. {Name} was about to walk past it before a rather rejoiceful voice echoed throughout the room. “How lucky, How lucky I am today!!” {Name’s} blood ran cold, they recognized that voice. It was the demon. {Name} had followed the demon back to where he lived!
…
Shit.
End of part 1!
I really hope you and Queen enjoyed it. I can’t guarantee when the next part will be out, but keep an eye out 👁️
Love you all!!

Cannonball!
Lego Monkie Kid
Arthur's note: Short drabble or snippet for the journey to the west discord summer event, almost 600 words and humor. Like before inbox is open for ideas or suggestions for Jttw/and adjacent (like lmk) for me to potentially write. Enjoy the story and tell me what you think. :3
Edit: My partner in crime for the event @breadnabreadd made this lovely art work here
Laughter,chatter, and all joyful sounds felt music to his old ears. He really need to thank Mei for inviting him and the others to her family’s home for a pool party. The heat and humidity were becoming unbearable, and he felt tempted to ‘ask’ Princess Iron Fan for her magical fan again. Thank goodness for that he got the invite first, or it would’ve been awkward with Red Son during the party; he certainly doesn’t want to repeat some chapters from a certain book or call Guanyin again (he’s still trying to repay them for all they have done for him).
Wukong let out a content sigh as his body slumped further into his inner tube, all four hairy limbs dipped into the refreshing cool water as the fiery sun beat down on him. The lounge chair was preferred if it wasn’t for all the racket around it; Pigsy tongue lashing at Tang while he cooks everyone’s lunch, Sandy in lifeguard mode with Mo as his furry whistle, and-
“Pool noodle?! Did you just call me a pool noodle?!” Golden eyes lazily turn their gaze to the owner of the voice, Mei in her swimwear and expatriate with closed fists at her sides.
“It’s only fitting,” Red Son exclaimed, pushing up his glasses as if the answer was obvious.“I don’t think I need to explain it.”
“Well, can you?!” Mei takes a step forward with her teeth bare at him.
“Learned it from my friend,” Red Son explains with arms crossed.
“Wait, you have a friend? Since when?” She asks curiously with squinted eyes.
“I talk to other people, you know.” in a matter of fact tone, his nose up in the air.
Tuning out that conversation, Wukong closes his eyes as he basks in the sun and the water below. No fights, no world ending events, no demons attacking, and certainly no Six Ear Macaque to ruin such a relaxing day. There is even a shade in the middle of the pool! Such a relaxing day it is. Wait, there shouldn’t be a shade here-
~~~
Sandy couldn’t believe his eyes. Mk full sprint to, clearly broken a rule, and jumped into the pool to do a cannonball only for a shadowy portal to swallow him up and spit him out higher than he should be, dead center to where Wukong is at. Neither of the two even notice it!? And shouldn’t the great sage hear Mk’s shout or was the old celestial monkey tuning everyone out?! Why wasn’t anyone following the rules!? It doesn’t matter now, as Sandy watched all of this in slow motion before his very eyes.
Mk landed on Wukong’s torso; before the two sank to the bottom of the pool, the splash created went everywhere. No one was safe; Pigsy and Tang toppled over each other like their college days at the beach, Mei and Red Son in the goofiest pose Sandy ever saw and not even Macaque. When the bastard popped his head in to make a snarky comment, the splash got him too and made him look like a soggy pathetic rat. The sole dry survivor was none ever than Mo, with claws deep into Sandy’s head as the cat clinged on with dear life; the water only got up to Sandy’s neck thankfully, and he was ready for it, but it really hurt and he wished Mo retracts his claws.
Finally, there at the center with a nearly empty pool was the shellshocked duo with Mk still in Wukong’s lap.
So much for a relaxing day.
What have I been watching?
I had to post this on here. Since this is my Personal Blog. I am still into David Byrne, so don't worry.
I have been playing "Black Myth: Wukong" lately, which led to my interest in "Journey to the West." Buckle up because this is going to be a long one.
Black Myth Wukong is based on Chinese mythology about Sun Wukong, aka The Monkey King. If I am not mistaken, there is a series on Netflix about The Monkey King. I got into JTTW by trying to figure out the cut scenes.
I recently watched "Journey to the West '86," and for those who are unfamiliar with the story, I’d like to provide a brief summary. The plot follows a Buddhist priest, Tripitaka, tasked by the Tang Emperor with retrieving a unique set of scriptures that can only be found in Eastern Heaven in India. He embarks on this mission accompanied by three unlikely allies.
Sun Wukong, known as the Monkey King, is called "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven." After a series of events that lead to a confrontation with the Jade Emperor and Buddha, Sun Wukong is imprisoned under five-element rocks. The Bodhisattva Guanyin tells him that the only way to find redemption is to escort Tripitaka to the West. As a result, he becomes a senior disciple and engages in numerous battles against demons along the journey.
Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) - Is the reincarnation of Marshall Teng Peng. He was once in charge of The Heavenly Navy due to his lustful ways and Harassing The Moon Goddess. He is punished by being reincarnated on Earth. He accidentally reincarnated into a pig. He is also recruited to join Tripitaka to the west.
Sha wa Jing ( Sandy) - He lived in Sand River. He used to be the curtain lifting General in Heaven. He is also asked to escort Triptaka.
The White Dragon - He is a prince of the Eastern Sea. He was punished for knocking over a valuable Jade Emperor. He becomes Tripitaka's horse after eating his original one.
These people should not be around each other, but somehow, it works. Also, Tripitaka and Sun Wukong have some trust issues and low-key love each other. This is basically the premise.
I watched this and the Sequel. I got interested in the actor who plays Sun Wukong. This is going to be in another post.
Okay. I keep seeing this confusion constantly pop up on my recommended. For anyone in the Trollhunters fandom or plan to introduce someone to the series...
Trollhunters and Rise of the Titans aren't made by the same writers.
The one responsible for the trainwreck movie is Marc Guggenheim. He's responsible for: Arrow Season 4, 2nd Percy Jackson movie and Green Lantern movie. It is a scenario where someone who doesn't understand the material drags it down to hell: the death touch.
This has happened to two other media I indulge in: Venom and Journey To The West. Donny Cates who destroyed the Lethal Protector's entire character. Two major examples being the destruction of the mutual love between Eddie and Venom alongside a random Anne/Venom love child whose very unsavory conception is from something the symbiote would NEVER do.
Next is Monkey Prince, a middle finger to anyone who enjoys Journey To The West and is most likely banned in China where the "inspiration" originates. This insult was clearly made with no proper knowledge on JTTW, a four textbook sized long story.
It's most popular character is Sun Wukong, the Monkey King and Great Sage Equal To Heaven. A stone monkey who cares greatly when it comes to the principle of family whether it be his monkey subjects or sworn brothers. He WILL kill anyone that harms them.
Sun Wukong ain't someone who would knock up a random woman and leave knowing he has a son. To leave his kid in danger as the Monkey King made himself many enemies whether it be demons/yaoguai to immortals. Nor let an incompetent trainer use a device that was meant to torture Sun Wukong into compliance and punish him FOR TRAINING.
I'm pretty sure Mindy Kaling's self insert "Velma" is a good example too. To summarize, no one treats Rise of the Titans as canon unless its a bad ending universe or Blinky's crackfic. People who don't understand the characters and material should never be allowed to write it.
You be opening the Gates of Hell known as angry fans.
Edit: Apparently Marc was a bit more involved in the series than I thought as I did some research thanks to a heads up from @bluheaven-adw . And oh boy do I see huge errors in his line of thinking. First off, you don't end three different series such as these with an Avengers style movie.
Those style of movies aren't the type you want to use for a vague series such as 3Below/Trollhunters/Wizards. It is a Netflix exclusive series and we all know the flaws with streaming service exclusives. Each show should have it's own conclusion in their respective series but you can have some characters from the other pop up to help with proper context and introduction.
Another idiotic decision is that they were doing this while Wizards was in production. Bad move as you are stretching both budget, management and resources. It became clear that no care was brought into either production. Wizards is shaky at best but escaped the devastation that Rise of the Titans wrought to the fandom.
Love and care is just as important to manage a series than just familiarity.
what are some upcoming xiyouji media that you’re excited for?
Here are a few!
2020 Journey to the West: Conquer the Demons 西游降魔篇 - I think this is like a re-write of the whole Chow Xiyouji films into a tv series!
2020 I'm Not a Great Sage 我不是大圣 - the Six-Earred Macaque being seen as a hero when he is trying so hard to be a villain. (Correction there are two movies with the same name and I got the poster for the wrong one whoops)
2021 Seven Sages 七圣 - a movie all about Wukong's brotherhood like with Snub-Nose Monkey King or Flood Dragon King!
2021 Sun Wukong: Heaven Devourer Monkey孙悟空之噬天魔猴 Trailer - the animation for this looks AMAZING AND I CANT WAIT!!!
2022 King of Confusion: The Rise of the Great Sage / Four Monkeys in Confusion 混世之王:混世四猴 /混世之王之大圣崛起 - Super excited to see Wukong and ALL THE SPIRITUAL MONKEYS!!! FINALLY THE WHOLE GANG IS HERE
2022 Bajie: Movie Preview 八戒:電影搶先看 - I am a huge Bajie fan and this just looks ADORABLE!
2022 The Lower Boundary of the Canopy of Bajie八戒之天蓬下界 - Another Bajie love story and honestly this one looks precious, he really trying to just get his weapon back but oh no he is being WOOED!
2022 Red Boy: Newborn Calf红孩儿之初生牛犊 - super fun animation! Really want to see the back story in this one!
2022 Monkey King and JJ大圣和江流儿 - I NEED THIS I NEED THIS LIKE WATER I NEED HERO IS BACK WUKONG TO BE A FATHER PLEASE
2023 The Legends of Monkey King 凌云志 - This was based on like a web novel and it sound more insane that it should be. can't say it is "good" but it def sounds interesting at LEAST.
2025Monkey King: The Havoc in Heaven西游记之大圣闹天宫 - I have heard that THIS is going to be a prequel to the 2015 Hero is Back Movie SO !!!!!!!!!!!! WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE HERO IS BACK WUKONG HE IS LIKE MY SECOND FAVORITE!!!
2030Monkey King: Flame Mountain孙悟空之火焰山 - the animation here just looks so interesting and Wukong looks so uncaney valley I'm really interested about this one.
NullThe Monkey Prince - this one is kinda a cheat but it is a WUKONG-inspired character and honestly, this looks like a lot of fun!!
NullJourney to the West - I can only PRAY that the art style of the poster for this movie is the same as the animation. I have NEVER seen a Xiyouji movie done by the French but if they make it this whimsical and colorful attitude I'm HERE FOR IT.
Needless to say, I'm excited about a lot of things.
Monkie Kid theory
A little disclaimer I have very little knowledge on any form of Chinese literature or mythology. So everything I put down is scratching the surface. Also their is spoilers for S4
Allrighty think I know who MK is or at least who he’s based off. After the original Journey of the West was their was numerous unofficial sequels. Many of which gives Wukong children in various ways. Eight of them between two 17th century novels and one honorable one who is spiritual descendant of Wukong.
Only about four of the unofficial children were mentioned by name, two who had any relevance. All of which have a unique connection to Buddhism and Asian Astrology.
Five sons by Princess Iron Fan but only one is mentioned King Pāramitā. He was conceived somehow when Wukong turned into fly and entered PIFs stomach. From ch.59 of the OG TJTTW.
Pāramitā is from the story A Supplement of Journey to the South.
The other three who’s name we know are from the story Journey to the South.
They are two sons Jidu, Luohou, and his one daughter Yuebei Xing.
But then we have the spiritual descendant Sun Luzhen from the story The Later Journey to the West.Sun Luzhen was born from the same stone that Wukong sprung from. And after hearing the many stories of Wukong after emerging from the stone he gave himself the title Small Sage Equaling Heaven and went down the same path of Wukong.
MK in s3 episode 3 called himself Somewhat equal to heaven.
Luzhen basically speeds runs Wukong’s journey causing a bunch of Mayhem and Havoc. So the Jade emperor tells Wukong to stop him.
Wukong tells him the dangers of Brute Force and begins Luzhen’s enlightenment.
Essentially brute force isn’t the only way like VR king was telling MK in season 2.
MK’s character and his is clearly based off of Luzhen.
Like Wukong Luzhen is a stone monkey.
Luzhen even had two companions Zhu Yijie the son of Zhu Bajie and Sha Zhihe the disciple of Sha Wujing.
Pigsy and Sandy. It’s interesting that Monkie Kid had them being old friend.
Like I said I haven’t read any of these stories but going off of a brief summary of the stories. It’s actually interesting to see how writers of the past made their own stories based off other stories.
But yeah Sun Luzhen might be the inspiration for MK’s character. If not the story of Monkie Kid. Their not exactly one to one for the characters. But it might reveal where we’re going in the story. Maybe MK discovers the secrets to immortality like Luzhen.
But I am curious how the other stone animals and the mysterious goddess will play into things. I’m assuming it’s going to be Guanying given her connection to the original journey story but can easily be another creation goddess. MK clearly knows more then he realizes and Wukong definitely knows what MK is since MK was born from his stone on his mountain.
Whatever season 5 or the special hopefully it goes into what MK is.
Monkey! (aka 'Journey To The West')
I've always loved the Chinese spiritual fable about the boy priest Tripitaka, who with three misfits - one of them the arrogant Monkey King - sets off to acquire and bring back Buddha's holy scriptures to enlighten the world.
I've also watched a LOT of very uninspired and dreary versions of what has become known as the story of 'The Monkey King'. Tezuka's great manga version aside, the best hands down was the inspired, chaotic, irreverent, goofy, action-packed and just downright fun version produced by Japan for TV in 1979-80.
'Monkey' (or 'Monkey Magic' in the UK) was just brilliant. There's a LONG evaluation of the series and its quirks here, or you can just watch the intro and an extended version of the great theme song with highlights from the series...
youtube
Below is Tezuka's sublime manga, and my quick tribute to the 'Great Sage, Equal Of Heaven", himself.
This is still a WIP but I love the crew dearly. These characters' stories continue after the JTTW, where they form a group of friends who have all been wronged one way or another by The East (Jade Emperor) and/or West (Buddha) Celestial Courts. Here we have (from left to right)
Ne Zha, Third Lotus Prince and Marshal of the Central Altar (lovingly known as Heaven's Hellion)
Shancai/Red Boy, servant of Bodhisattva Guanyin and wielder of the True Samadhi Fire
The Azure Lion, also known as Lion-Lynx Demon and the former Lion Camel King
The Spirit of the Six Eared Macaque, near-omniscient Master of Illusions and Unghostly Spirit of Flower-Fruit Mountain
Sun Wukong, Great Sage; Heaven's Equal, the Monkey King, and Victorious Fighting Buddha (a title he renounced but still respects and is honoed by)
I'd love to make something out of this. I've got so many ideas in my head and I want to do designs for Longnü the Snake Dragon Girl, Guanyin, Áo Liè and many others. It would be set in the modern day with all sorts of shenanigans, heartache, self-discovery, and growth when it comes to these characters. (And also a couple characters of my own ^_^)
Every time I've planned to make a comic, animation, or animatic I never follow through or I loose interest, but hopefully I'll be able to keep this one alive. I love it a lot actually.
What would you call this? The working titles I've got are: The Journeys of the Monkey King, After the Journey to the West, and The Unwritten Journeys. Although something with "Celestials" in it would sound nice too.
#Journey to the West#is this an AU or an adaptation???#im going with adaptation 'cause im definitely changing some backstories around#current wip#also that ne zha design is everything hes the only one I have a full character sheet for lol#digital art
Propaganda for General Prelim Poll 25
(Vote here)
Goku Black a.k.a Zamasu (Dragon Ball Z) :
No propaganda yet
Sango (Inuyasha) :
"Sango is Japanese for coral, and the anime gives her guards a coral color."
Ty Betteridge a.k.a Yellow (WOE.BEGONE) :
"Okay so he's one of many iterations of a character named Ty Betteridge and outside of his workplace they all refer to him as Ty Betteridge but inside the workplace he's mainly known as Yellow. Since we basically only see him at work I think he deserves it. He works in the Euthanasia department at his job which sounds normal until you realize that said job is at the Unethical Human Medical Experiment Facility. His job involves killing hundreds of iterations of the same two guys, Edgar and Mike. He's very dry about it; quote:
"I haven't had to kill anyone *today,* but it's not even noon yet."
He also sounds a bit petulant and annoyed with the guys he had to kill. He has a silly little British accent and calls them ingrates and that sort of thing. I love him."
Red Boy a.k.a Boy Sage Great King and Dragon Boy Skilled in Wealth (The Journey to the West) :
"In Chinese, his name is 红孩儿 (Hong Hai-er), which I'm pretty sure just means "red child", but "red boy" is the usual translation."
Tant Grön, Tant Brun, Tant Gredelin and Farbror Blå (Tant Grön, Tant Brun och Tant Gredelin) :
"Literally Aunt Green, Aunt Brown, Aunt Lilac and Uncle Blue in Swedish. Their outfits' color match their names"
Bai Wuchang a.k.a Wu Xi (Qi Ye/Lord Seventh) :
"Bai" in his name is 白, "white". Though he is only Bai Wuchang in the first chapter, and then we mostly get to know him as his reincarnated self Wu Xi, he does do something v important to the plot in that one chapter, and him having been Bai Wuchang also comes up later."
Gokai Red a.k.a Captain Marvellous (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger) :
No propaganda yet
Stacy Green (It Lives in the Woods) :
"She's got a big brother who's a love interest to the main character and a mother who's pretty important to the story so if you need more people you can take them too."
Whizzer Brown (Falsettos) :
No propaganda yet
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTERS +400
In the Journey to the West arc:
The last person to speak up was the great Sage. [Leave the matters of Yogoes to other Yogoes. And you, you should live your own Story.]
Only then did I finally figure out what was going on here.
[Giant Story, 'Journey to the West', has begun its storytelling for you.]
But, why? Why were they doing this for me?
The Great Sage smirked and replied. [Because we like your Story. That's all.]
SO YOU ARE SO ACCURATE. I LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH
You know the line that punches me in the stomach every time? "I like your story." It's such a simple, mundane thing you can say, normally. But in orv, you feel the weight of it everytime. It's such a deeply personal and the highest compliment you can give. It's the exact juxtaposition of emotion you feel when the constellations donate coins and send completely tone-deaf messages that just trivializes their tragedy, their mass-produced story.
But "I like your story?"
It means I've watched you and seen everything you've done, witnessed your triumph and your absolute despair. I support you, and I'll trust where you lead.
Just looking at the star steam, they can be seen as the essentially the same result, just in different ways. The way yjk never saw the constellations as anything but enemies and kdj who weaves them into the story and experience, no matter if willing or not. He makes them take responsibility for the story they get to view. While you can see as yjk actions as making them reap the consequences for their actions. Same thing, different ways. Three different ways, but hsy deserves her own long and obnoxiously introspective post.
I can't cope my dudes, finished it for the third time. I will never stop talking about this.
