Mitchell Tenpenny Releases Third Studio Album The 3rd
Tumblr media
Platinum-selling recording artist Mitchell Tenpenny has released a 20-track third studio album, The 3rd. He launched his album promo with an appearance on the Today Show earlier this week performing the album’s first radio single “Not Today.”
Mitchell, a CMA Awards New Artist of the Year nominee, has seen his career explode in the past 12 months. His success as a touring artist has grown from recent guest slots on the road with Jason Aldean, Luke Combs and Jordan Davis to his own headline tours. From the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to the Today Show, he has performed his music to an ever-growing legion of fans, reached the top of the charts with two #1 singles in the last year and added to his gold and platinum selling status. Mitchell’s career and artistry is indeed in the rise.
Mitchell’s message to his fans, “I can’t even express how excited I am to finally have my new record “The 3rd” coming out. I put my heart and soul into these songs and can’t wait for y’all to hear these stories. I want to say thank you to my family for naming me James Mitchell Tenpenny the III and for all of you for allowing me to make three records!! What a life and journey I get to share with you through music. I hope y’all love it and find songs that connect with your journey. Let’s get it! It’s finally out!”
Yesterday, Mitchell threw out the first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles home game against the San Francisco Giants before his concert at Rams Head Live and he’ll bring the “Woke Up In A Dream Tour” to Terminal 5 in New York City tonight. For full schedule and tickets for the tour go to Mitchell10Penny.com.
Additional good news recently announced, Mitchell appears with Brooks & Dunn on “Ain’t No Way To Go” as part of their 18-track Reboot 2 album coming out November 15. He will embark on a cross Canada tour opening for Jordan Davies in October 2024. His 2025 touring schedule will launch in January and February as a guest on Luke Combs’ stadium dates in Australia and New Zealand.

for nye i normally do a little self-promo post to reflect on the year and what i’ve written. in last year’s post, i hoped that i would write fewer words this year (because i would be able to, you know, actually leave my house and do things), and i’m happy to say that i did indeed accomplish that goal, both on the writing things and the doing things fronts. but i’ve still written a respectable 50k+ words (some of those incoming in the last chapter of smoke and dirt, which i’m counting toward this year’s total), plus i managed to get something published, too.
thanks as always to everyone who has read and kudos’d and commented and bookmarked and rec’d my fics this year. and to @patrickredactedbrewer for keeping me going when i’m busy getting in my own way.
now let’s talk about some fics...
*
a road that will never lead to rome
the first of four fics i wrote for the s7 fest, this one is an expansion of a ficlet i’d written previously. i love some good, old fashioned, homemade romance, and this one has it in spades.
*
all i need is to see your face
i decided to tackle a twylexis story for my second s7 fic. it was a nice change of pace to write about a slightly different dynamic, and i really enjoyed getting to explore alexis having a rare moment of self-doubt.
*
betta than all the rest
another s7 fic, this one is based a bit on real life. when i was married, every time we travelled with/visited my husband’s family—who are generally lovely people—there would come a point where little irritations would suddenly tip over the edge into them driving me absolutely crazy. i enjoyed stressing david out a bit here by giving him that journey with the brewers.
*
locks like the raven
i love nye and all the different ways people celebrate. first footing is not a tradition i’ve ever participated in, but it’s an obvious fit for david certainly, and it was especially fun coming up with the list of all the things he’d carry with him for my last s7 fic.
*
in a green field in the sun
the first of two expansions of the baseballverse, i channeled all my excitement for the return of a full baseball season and the start of spring training into this sweet moment for david and patrick. it was so nice to return to this universe after spending so much time writing the original fic. i just love these baseball boys a ton.
*
just called to say
this was my first chance to write from patrick’s pov within the baseballverse, which was a good challenge after writing all 65k words before it from david’s pov. there’s lots of feelings packed into this little 5+1, and i got to cross several things off of my baseballverse headcanons list with it. (there are tons more on that list, and maybe someday i will finally finish the fourth fic in this series and you’ll get to read some more of them.)
*
smoke and dirt
last but not least, the biggest chunk of words i’ve written this year has come from this when harry met sally au, all of which have been written in the past two months. i’ve been thinking about this story for ages, and i’m glad i’ve finally managed to write it. i’m sad that i didn’t get it done in time for nye like i wanted, but when 2021 decides to throw one last disaster your direction, you gotta be flexible. we’ll just kick 2022 off with the finale of this one instead.

We Really Like Fluff
a totally incomplete guide to dousy fan fictions that are a must:
according to me, anyway
no idea where to start? looking for a fic you read a year ago? I’ve got you.
help me find the tumblrs of those not tagged (if they have one)!
all we do is drive. (romantashas) @romantashas
Daisy has missed the open road. She used to always love taking her van out and just driving. Los Angeles was where she liked to stick around, but she would always go on these road trips just because she wanted to explore somewhere new.
She's always liked running away from things.
It was different, having someone with her.
In which Daisy Johnson helps Daniel Sousa explore the modern world by taking him on a cross-country road trip in a van. Post-Finale road trip AU with MCU tie-ins.
the first beloved fic by this fandom. completed in august 2020, it strays from canon somewhat at S7E11, but the characterization makes you forget that anything is different at all. truly a masterpiece, and definitely a must-read.
6/17/55 (lazyfish)
6/17/55.
She never thought it would mean 1955.
(Spoilers up to 7.06.)
one shot. soulmate au. beautifully written. it’s only just under 2k words but one of the most popular fan fictions under the tag on ao3. absolutely adorable and you’ll feel your heart flutter for them.
One Year Later (marvelsquake) @marvelsquake
Set right after the series finale's 'one year later' part where Daisy stares into space with Sousa and Kora.
Inspired by the 'anatomy analysis' bit Jemma says to Daisy.
there are so many amazing “anatomy analysis” fics out there. that is one of those “if you know, you know” things;) this one is really thoroughly written, and marvelsquake took their time to make every detail perfect. really, just excellent.
Stay (SteeleHoltingOn) @steeleholtingon
Not everyone knew she could feel heartbeats. Sousa’s sped up every time he looked her way.
His reaction wasn’t particularly unusual, and Daisy was an expert at fending off unwanted advances. But that was just it: Sousa hadn’t actually made any advances, and if he did, Daisy wasn’t sure she’d ward them off.
Her heartbeat, it seemed, liked to match tempo with his.
this one needs little introduction. it has been recced(??) to death, and rightfully so!!! the author is this incredible genius and I love them for giving this to us. it’s over 150k words, so be ready to commit some much deserved time to this excellent character study on both Daisy and Daniel.
Feel Good(I Like It) (enigmaforum)
It's not the the first time she’s felt something for someone since Lincoln but it’s the first time she felt like it had the possibility to actually turn into something. Something Good.
I’ve always loved the title of this fic, but that’s besides the point. enigmaforum is a very talented writer who does plot AND characterization like a pro. definitely an A+ in terms of quality. also part of a series with some other excellent works!
Exposure (agentquakingskye) @blcssqvake on instagram
Dying in a half-second blast of radiation wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be.
Dying all over again, slowly, because of that half-second of radiation?
That was worse.
okay I lied. we also love angst and this work is angst central. it’s a cancer AU following the finale, but it’s just as happy as it as sad. prepare your tissues, but also prepare for some seriously good writing.
A Week After Death (manoutoftimeandquake) @puddle-of-awesomeness
An explosion in an alien junkyard sends Daisy, Sousa and Kora back in time to meet some people from Sousa's past.
the astro ambassadors sent back in time to meet the AC cast(essentially). such a fun, action-packed, hilarious work. such a classic. go read it now!!
Where I Need To Be (JennaPotter)
This is set from Episode 7x03 onwards and follows the story of Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa, and how their relationship has been developing throughout this amazing season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! This story mostly follows canon but is interspersed with missing moments between Daisy and Sousa that I imagine could have happened off-screen.
almost 200k words of absolute beauty. it’s incredibly detailed and excellently written. it’s like reading a published novel!! but with dousy!!
you’ve got that power(over me) (romantashas) @romantashas
"It's you," Daniel whispers. He's in awe, looking at Quake. She steps back away from him. "Let me help you," he says, reaching out toward her injured arm slowly.
Daniel only gets a moment more to admire her glowing eyes and her purple hair before she turns and runs away, her hand slipping out of his.
In which the superheroes of the Marvelverse actually try to keep their identities a secret and Daniel Sousa is determined to figure out who is behind the mysterious Quake mask. Superhero AU with MCU tie-ins.
yet another classic(I’m definitely misusing that word… it’s deserved by these authors) work by romantashas. the description gives the gist of it, but it’s one of the best dousy AUs out there.
get ready for the shameless self promo…
Your Heartbeat On The Highline(Once In Twenty Lifetimes) (doctorsimmonswilson) @angry-slytherin
He’s a man out of time and she’s an orphaned superhero. They’ve just got to figure out what to do next, after the mission is over.
[aka Daisy and Daniel’s story post finale]
welp… I included my own story. honestly it’s because it is one of the most popular in the tag(I’m sifting through too kudos and top hits). I’m really super proud of it, so read it if you’d like. it’s canon compliant (and extremely fluffy for the most part:)
somebody hurt you(but you’re here by my side) (agentmmayy) @agentmmayy
Daniel doesn't leave Daisy's side, even when she's out of the healing chamber.
very popular, and for good reason. such a sweet, nice fic. I very much enjoyed it and it’s a quicker read than most on this list!
and here’s to the question marks
aka: unfinished works that are beautiful and deserve your attention
want you(to unravel me) (IzzieBee)
Daisy never wanted to be rescued, by anyone. She never wanted to owe someone that debt, but especially not to a handsome WWII Vet, traveling through time. Daniel, who was brave and decent, and kind of funny, and who she could easily depend on, which was way too dangerous to consider.
OR
Daisy really wasn't ready for Daniel Sousa.
sexy, fun, well-written… what more could we ask for? it’s missing the last chapter, but the brunt of the story is there, and it’s satisfying either way.
A Truth Stranger Than Fiction (wordsmithraven)
Daniel Sousa was having the worst day of his life...and he’d lived through a war. Service had always been something he’d understood. Honor. Sacrifice. Duty. He’d just never thought his journey would mean leaving everything he loved behind.
a lot of daisy and daniel getting to know one another… a little bit of season 7 adventure… a whole bunch of fun.
Loving The Journey Together (manoutoftimeandquake) @puddle-of-awesomeness
Moments in the lives of Daisy and Sousa (and Kora) after the end of the team's final mission.
this one is a WIP(being updated currently). manoutoftimeandquake has some amazing snippets/slices of life waiting for you in that work!
it’s in the subtext (eggsaladstain)
Snippets of the relationship between Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa through the words they said and the ones they didn’t.
SO. FREAKING. GOOD. just go read it, okay?
and finally, some links to some authors who’ve written a bunch of amazing stuff.
romantashas
manoutoftimeandquake
enigmaforum
@hecckyeah
lazyfish
hereforthephilindafics
dearemma
seriously, there’s so many more amazing fics in this tag. I didn’t have the energy to include all 800+. these are just some that are most popular and/or deserve your attention.
thank you for taking the time to read through all of this! I hope you’ve found some things to bookmark(or binge-read;)

a skeleton of something more [malex wip]
Inspired by the promo/trailer for season 3. Spoilers and speculation ahead.
A tumblr work-in-progress
Pairing: Michael/Alex, Alex/Forrest
Summary: Alex goes undercover to seek out Deep Sky. Starts mid-2x13.
Alex leaned his back against the solid wood of his front door, letting the heavy oak take up his weight. He kept making the standard uneven bargain with his body, of giving just a little more, going through the motions for a little longer, and then it would be over. But the tally sheet his body held was long, overflowing with so many unfulfilled promises that it seemed ever more likely he would end this journey in the red.
If it ever ended.
At least, tonight, he had haggled wisely for some space to breathe. On the other side of the door, he had managed to escape Forrest’s hopeful and not subtle attempts to follow him inside, toward the bedroom for a long-awaited reunion. A reunion that Alex had deftly avoided without a trace of guilt. He had used the bland excuse of fatigue from a long, cramped ride from Holloman Air Force Base to Roswell on a bus that had predated the ADA by a good thirty years. It was transparent but still true, written on every line of pain in his smile as he had said “Not tonight.” that even Forrest could read it, even if only Alex knew the real source of his fatigue.
He waited several long moments, before turning to look out the peephole to watch Forrest’s Prius silently reverse out of his driveway. Exhaling out long and low, the tension he had started carrying a little more than a year ago slipped away, letting the calm certainty of safety of his house slip down his body as he released the facade.
Alex was almost done with this assignment, he reminded himself, as he rubbed the back of his hand against his mouth, scrubbing away the taste of Forrest Long from earlier.
Just a little while longer, and he will have enough good will built up to finally meet the leader of Deep Sky face-to-face, after all who could resist the request of a senior member, especially one with the last name of Long? It had been a lucky find that Alex had made in cleaning out his father’s house after his death, a ring and an old photo of the members. In washed out Kodak colors was the cabal of Deep Sky. Former military men with names Alex had memorized off the salvaged hard drives from the Caulfield prison. Linked not by overlapping time on the alien project, but what had become of their careers after their military service had ended. All of them vowing to carry on the protection of Earth against an alien threat, but without the oversight of the government.
The photo in his dad’s desk had been expected, but the silver ring? He had remembered clutching it, his hands still sore from tearing down the shed with Michael, and feeling the imprint of the symbol press deep into his skin. Searing across what Mimi had called his long-love line, singular and deep on his palm. Searing even deeper inside with the recognition that the symbol matched the ring Forrest Long wore.
The genial historian with the loose-fitting cardigan and blue-streaked hair, who had shown flattering interest in Alex, had worn the same ring. Easy on his hand, flashing in the bright sunlight when he had eagerly met up with Alex at the paintball fields with sharpshooter skills. After that date had crashed and burned thanks to a mishmash of his father’s voice and the feeling he had whenever he thought about kissing someone, not Michael, well, Alex had figured that would be the last he would see of the man.
It hadn’t been.
Suddenly, Forrest was everywhere he was, the Crashdown, the Wild Pony. It should have been suspicious to Alex, after months of sharing the same town with the other man without a single encounter. His heart was still bounding uselessly after Michael, while his hands had been full of his suddenly feeble father, and he had missed the snare of the trap. Not just the one his father had laid. Then after his kidnapping, two things had become clear to Alex, his father would never change from the hateful man he was, and Alex’s heart would never change when it came to his feelings for Michael.
Alex pushed his leaden body away from the door, tottering on his feet for a moment before the new prosthesis shored up his balance and he took a deep breath for the strength to move forward.
Fuck. That was a mistake.
His house smelled like rain. Michael. The unexpected consequence of having Michael watch over his house while he had moved around the country, playing up the role of the grieving scion of the Manes family legacy. After a year of brief trips back to Roswell and long stints on the road, the house now smelled like Michael.
Alex sucked in greedy gulps of air, chasing the taste of green and petrichor with his tongue to wash away his previous actions at the bus stop. His security system, his reinforced door and window locks, the weight of his gun still tucked in his back holster, none of it made him feel as safe as the smell of Michael in his home. It was the smallest crumb of promise, but it filled him.
Moving toward the kitchen for a drink, he clocked the changes Michael had made in his absence. His heavier luggage, shipped ahead of him, was already stored, including the set of crutches and the charging station for his back-up prosthesis. The lights in the kitchen came on with a single touch, all of them bright. Dammit, Michael had fixed the two burnt out bulbs, along with the slightly weeping fitting on the sink faucet.
There was zero sign of neglect in his house, no matter where he looked. Not even the faintest trace of dust on his guitars. The house looked warm and well tended. Loved.
The rush of tears welled in his throat, an impossibly large lump, as Alex fought to keep from breaking down. Don’t fucking cry, don’t do it, that’s for at night, he swore creatively at himself. Tears were only allowed under the cover of dark, in hotel rooms or visiting officer quarters, not in the middle of his brightly lit kitchen.
A knock sounded on the front door.
Abruptly, every drop of tortured longing was gone, as Alex straightened his shoulders and crossed the threshold back to the door. He pasted the right amount of faked aspiration mixed with real annoyance on his face as he yanked the door open, expecting to see Forrest back on his step with a weak excuse concocted to overcome the earlier rebuff.
Michael looked up in the porch light, his black hat in hand and his curls wild with nervous raking. “Uh, hi.” He scuffed his boots against the concrete before growing still under Alex’s gaze.
He looked over Michael’s shoulder nervously, for the distinctive truck that everyone in town knew belonged to Michael, but his driveway was empty.
“I parked a few streets over. I don’t think anyone saw me-” Michael’s explanation was cut off short as Alex grabbed his wrist and yanked him inside. Stumbling from Alex’s strong grip, Michael fell forward, and then back as the front door slammed shut with them both safely inside out of view. His mouth was still open in surprise as Alex covered his lips in a kiss.
The surprise was short-lived. Michael came alive under the kiss, opening and yielding to Alex’s hungry lips and tongue. Alex brought his hands up into Michael’s curls, cupping his head protectively as he pressed Michael firmly against the door, drinking in every sound Michael was making.
Hours before, he had kissed Forrest at the bus station, playing up the role of a dutiful boyfriend returning home. It was the tariff he paid with his body to get closer to the roots of Deep Sky, but this, feeling Michael whole and safe under his hands, tasting him now, that was sustenance. Lifeblood. There was an evolution of difference between the two, like comparing simple bacteria wiggling toward complexity and the finished product of a man, standing upright.
It was both a reminder of why he was doing this and a reinstatement of focus, as he slowly broke the kiss with reluctance. Michael chased at his lips, his mouth red and wet, his eyes dark with want. He could feel the heat coming off of Michael’s thin brown shirt, his hands itched to pull it off, to descend back into the physical, but Alex knew that he owed Michael an explanation for earlier.
“I’m sorry about earlier. I didn’t know he was going to be there to meet my bus. I thought it would be okay for you to give me a ride,” Alex explained quietly, as he ran his hands from Michael’s neck down to his fingertips, drinking in all the changes that had happened while he was gone. Michael looked thinner to him, as if he wasn’t eating enough despite the healthy amount of work and money. “I guess he wanted to surprise me and thought it would be romantic.”
Michael made a face at the idea of surprises ever being considered romantic, especially to Alex. He turned sweetly toward Alex’s palm, kissing the center as Alex pushed a stubborn curl out of his eyes. “Are you sure that’s all it was? He wasn’t testing you, was he?”
“I don’t think so.” Alex couldn’t pull his hands away from Michael, and leaned in to kiss him again. It started soft and shallow, trading breaths with Michael, lips against lips, licking deep into his mouth as his previous weariness disappeared now that Michael was here. “He saw you watching us. Now that I’m back, he’s worried about losing my attention to you. He hasn’t hidden his jealousy that I asked you to watch my house last year.”
“Did I look sufficiently broken-hearted?” The question was light, but Alex could hear the grain of truth under it.
“You did.” Alex closed his eyes, the guilt of the situation flooded back inside. The statue of his father looking down on him didn’t make him feel nearly as sick as having Michael’s eyes on him as he let Forrest kiss him in front of the town in a cinematic homecoming moment. It was a cruel reminder to Alex that he had never been able to give Michael that, a public welcome that spelled out who they were to each other, not once in ten plus years of deployments and duty station assignments. Trading a glance across the Wild Pony was as close as they came. “I wish it wasn’t like this, sneaking around, pretending-”
“Hey, I agreed to this, right at the very beginning when I was your only back-up. Remember?”
“We were just friends back then, you couldn’t have known that things would end up like this.”
Michael laughed, his head tilted back against the door, casting an attractive line of his throat to his collarbone. “We’ve never been just friends, Alex, but I knew what I was signing up for when you told me what you planned to do to smoke out Deep Sky. We’re in this together.”

2021 Fic in Review
I was tagged by nobody but I saw people doing this and I thought it'd be fun to recap my writing for this year 😁
Tagging: @photogirl894 @moonstrider9904 @mathmusic8 @ct-crosshair @webtrinsic1122 @thecoffeelorian @mistr3ssquickly @maiseey @triplerexthreat
Total Number of Fics: 14
Total Wordcount: 42113 words
Fandoms: Star Wars (Rebels: 3; TCW: 2; TBB: 7), ASOIAF: 1, Arrow: 1
Most Popular Fic (by bookmarks): Rough Awakening (54 bookmarks)
Most Popular Fic (by kudos): Rough Awakening (233 kudos)
Favorite Fic: Uff! Hard to choose because I'm pretty proud of what I wrote this year but I'm going with An Explosive Situation. It's short but has everything I like: whump, a pinch of angst, and another of fluff for my Star Wars OTP, Kalluzeb. What else could I have asked for? 😆 Besides, I wrote it pretty fast for my writing speed lately, and it signaled the comeback of my muse, which had abandoned me for a long time.
Below the cut there is a month-by-month fic timeline (with Author's commentary).
JANUARY
Road to Lira San (SW Rebels, T, Kalluzeb, 3.5k, WIP)
Agent Kallus never imagined that the day he gets stranded on the Genosian moon, Bahryn, with the Resistance Captain Garazeb Orrelios is the day he starts a journey to redemption. The path is not easy, full of risks, but it might be worth it when happiness such as Alexsandr has never known is waiting for him at the end.
I have so many ideas, full arcs and all, for this story but my muse is a little b*tch that do whatever it wants and decided to focus on chapters way ahead of the ones I should be working on (like chapter 2 for example 😩) so that's why I haven't updated in almost a year. I'm honestly considering turning this into a series and posting the chapters done in an out-of-order fashion. It frustrates me that I can't continue sharing this story that's so dear to my heart.
JULY
Rescue on Ryloth (TBB, T, 670 words)
The rescue of the Syndullas in Ryloth go differently than it was planned.
This is another one I wrote so incredibly fast. The leak of the promo for episode 12 sent me into such a frenzy, that all I could do was write this. It was a little wishful thinking thrown into the mix as well, an idea that it didn't come true of the Batch rescuing Cross. So now, it's a fix-it 😐
Rough Awakening (TBB, T, 9.3k, WIP)
The Batch finally rips Crosshair away from the Empire's clutches, but things don't go so smoothly once he's de-chipped.
This started as a prequel to another fic I was working on where Crosshair was already back with the Batch. I wanted to do a one-shot or 2-part fic about the rescue and the aftermath but me, being me, things spiraled out of control and we're 4 chapters in (working on the 5th!!), and it's barely now when the chip is being removed. I have come up with so many ideas for this story that it has gotten a life on its own, so I decided to abandon the first one and see where this fic takes me.
AUGUST
Not a Star Wars fic 😆
Haunted as Mare9548 (Game of Thrones/aSoIaF, T, Braime, 1.9k words)
Jaime knocks on Brienne's door at an unholy hour of the night. (Piece for Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange 2021)
OCTOBER
This is when I did my Star Wars X-tober Extravaganza where I fulfilled various prompts for whumptober, angstober, flufftober, and angstober. That's why this was my most productive month of the year 😁
An Explosive Situation (SW Rebels, T, Kalluzeb, 1.9k)
After a solo mission to the planet Dela goes south, Kallus finds himself in a tight spot. The Spectres go to his rescue but the actual saving turns out more complicated than expected.
On An Adventure (TCW/TBB, Gen, 713 words)
The fluffiest fic I've ever written 🥺🥰
On a rare stormless night, 99 and Omega go for a little adventure.
Tomorrow Is A Good Day For Someone Else to Die (TBB, T, 1.152 words)
The life of Crosshair and Tech in Kamino as cadets has never been easy.
Claiming the Soldier (TBB, Explicit/Grapefruit, Wrecker x reader, 919 words)
Minors do not interact / Underage begone
You and Wrecker hit a life-changing milestone in your relationship.
Seeing Red (TBB, T, 1097 words)
The Bad Batch goes on their first mission to the battlefront. Things take a sudden turn south.
We Don't Leave Our Own Behind (TBB, T, 1.4k words)
Hunter respects Crosshair's choice not to join the batch again even if it's a karking ass-stupid decision. And yet, love, loyalty, and a tad of guilt —okay, okay… a lot of guilt— don't let him make the same mistake he did before, abandoning his brother.
Or the one where the batch goes back for Crosshair after leaving him stranded on the landing platform in Kamino.
Help, I'm Alive (SW Rebels, T, 1.5k, WIP)
Ezra had imagined many times that he’d die in the heat of a battle against the Empire; he’s had several close calls already. But never in his wildest dreams, he foresaw that his death would come when a temple fell on top of him.
I promise that I'll finish it, but can't say when 😓
3 Long Days (TCW, T, 1.5k words)
When Ahsoka falls ill, Anakin doesn't leave her side.
You're Still There, I Know (TCW, T, Foxiyo, 2.1k words)
Riyo feels like she lost the man she loves. If only Fox would talk to her and explain why.
My first Foxiyo fic!! This ship is so cute that I couldn't stop myself from writing them 😊
_____
Aaaaaaand another no Star Wars fic
Queen of Lions as @green-arrows-of-karamel (Arrow, T, Olicity, 14.1k, Discontinued)
The Fates have never been kind to her or her race. When the Greek goddesses designate Oliver Queen as her mate, Felicity can't believe it. Three weeks is all she has to decide to mate with him. If Felicity refuses him, she will condemn Oliver to a cruel fate. And hers won't be pretty either.
This fic stayed in my WIP folder for over 4 years until I saw a post promoting Good Intentions WIPs fest, which is an opportunity for writers to publish and let go fics that will never be finished. I took the chance to unburden myself from this story very dear to my heart (because it's about the otp I rooted for years and also because it's a crossover with one of my favorite book series) and share it with my old fandom.

Alone Together - meta/review
This was such a good episode! I think while I thoroughly enjoyed 4x01 and the way that it got us back into the rhythm of things especially with, you know, a pandemic happening, 4x02 got us back into the usual balance of emergency and personal aspects.
-
Spoilers below:
The episode begins with news coverage and it’s a good way to jump right into what’s happening and give us a recap to last week. And then we meet the three roommates. I can’t be bothered with remembering their names, but they were fun. The dynamic there is interesting and of course, this leads into some really awesome shots of the Hollywood sign breaking and the mudslide. The whole sequence is such a good opening for the episode and it sets our scene well. While I don’t have any complaints, this emergency is smaller scale to the tsunami and the earthquake of the past two season openings, but that isn’t much of a problem when we consider that they shot this in the middle of a pandemic. So, it works.
What I found most interesting about this episode, and in a way how it continues the stories that were begun in 4x01, is that we delve further into the personal. Not every character is featured heavily, but we get small and big moments with all of them.
Athena:
The struggle that Athena has faced since the end of last season has been handled so well. Her trauma and how it lingers on her and yet doesn’t change how strong and fierce and amazing she is, is amazing to watch. It’s inspiring. Having Athena be right in the midst of everything especially when she wasn’t supposed to be just fits so perfectly. Having her contrast with Sylvia who is afraid of leaving her own house, and having Athena rescue Sylvia and herself and not give up, not even when the voice of dispatch was her daughter asking her to save herself. I just love Athena so damn much. She went through a journey in this episode and while I don’t think that her trauma is over, I think she will push herself to move forward and move past it. If not just for herself, then for May.
I also really appreciated that we got a moment where Athena gives her approval of David by telling Michael that David looks tired. It was such a nice touch. The Athena and Michael relationship has been developed so well from S1, to a place where they are both with other people but can still be family.
And finding out that May made the choice to be a dispatcher over going to school to be about her mom felt absolutely right and I feel so much for both of them and both sides, but I do have to say that May’s outlet for her lack of control in her life/the life of her loved ones is at least healthy and it’s making a difference.
Lastly, I will never not be fond of Bobby and Athena — the way that Bobby was allowed to go search for her personally and that moment when they saw each other. His promise to always search for her. After everything Bobby went through during Athena’s attack, it’s easy to think about how difficult this was for Bobby.
Chimney:
The other big focus of this episode was Chimney. 4x01 set up the living arrangements and it was immediately apparent that while Chimney had his reasons, that he didn’t need to be as set on that. After all we’re told that both Eddie and Hen went back home to their kids, so Chim should have gone home to Maddie and his unborn baby.
It’s nice that we begin this conversation with Buck and Chim, instead of directly involving Maddie. We already know how Maddie feels about this — she misses Chim and wants him around.
Chim’s joke about his “bad joke” being a “dad joke” was perfectly in line with his type of humor and it set us up for the conversation to come in which we learn that Chim’s whole problem is not just concern about the pandemic, but a deeper fear that he won’t be a good parent. His convo with Buck certainly offers some insight into his worry, but also the willingness that Chim has to do absolutely anything necessary for his baby, whose gender the characters and us, the viewers, don’t get to know yet.
The rescues that Chimney and Buck end up going on begin with Chimney — not Buck — hearing a baby crying. And just like with Athena, the emergency itself gives Chim more insight into himself and into his situation and into what he needs to do. He rescues the baby, finds a bunch of pregnant ladies, and then goes on to deliver a baby and while talking to the mother, I think Chim finally gets to understand what the importance that being present for Maddie means.
We get a very sweet moment where Maddie arrives home and finds Chimney already there and the whole thing is just emotional enough both from Chimney’s perspective of just how pregnant Maddie is and Maddie’s surprise and joy to have him there with her. They really are the sweetest together. And by the time that we’re in the closing parts of the episode and we see Maddie and Chimney on a video call with the new roommates — uncles to be Buck and Albelt, it’s clear that they’re settled together and happy and that Chimney knows better than to argue about coffee.
Hen:
Ms. Henrietta Wilson knows how to emote with her eyes. We first see her reactions to Chimney’s bad joke and just her general demeanour and it’s all perfect, and then gets better when she’s reacting to Bobby’s facts about the Hollywood sign. In a liveblog post I said this was very Buck and I stand by it. Not just the rattling of facts, but the need to research a new place in some way.
But where it gets good is when we see Hen in the middle of the drama among the roommates. Hen does so much with just a slight widening of her eyes, or a look in a certain direction. The timing is absolutely perfect and is practically alone in making that scene funny.
Other than these small moments we don’t get much of Hen in this episode, but we do get the sweetest moment towards the end where we get to see Hen and Karen’s daughter, Nia. Not only is this little girl adorable, but with just a couple of lines, I’m sure she’s stolen every viewer’s heart. And to add to this, the love and pride that Karen feels for Hen radiates. I cannot wait for the show to go further into Hen’s experiences on her road to becoming a doctor.
Bobby:
Bobby mostly plays the part of a secondary character to everyone else’s story. We see plenty of him and we learn that he’s the one with facts about the Hollywood sign. Mostly, I enjoyed that he played a part in finding Athena and I think it was an interesting choice to have him keep his composure and be professional. In some ways this relates to May and the conversation that May has with Maddie about the need to put feelings and personal stuff aside to do the job. And yet we know that after what Athena has recently gone through, that none of that could have been easy for Bobby.
Eddie:
Very little Eddie once more. I’m honestly not concerned about it to be honest. I’ve seen a lot of talk about how little he shows up in promo stuff and all that, but I just think it’s important to remember that this is an ensemble show with a rather large cast and that it’s entirely possible focus on his character will come in other episodes. And to consider that he’s one of the characters that was chosen for the cross-over.
But we did get to see minor Buck and Eddie interaction, and more importantly we got to see Eddie and Christopher.
And I think it was so important to bring Carla in, even over video, because she really is a huge part of Chris’ life. It does lead to the question of who is taking care of Christopher while Eddie is at work? How is school being handled for him? And it was just so lovely to see Eddie fall asleep at a bedtime story too.
Buck:
He is just so damn smart. Who would have thought to follow the feedback to find that baby? Buck is the kind of character that takes in the variables and finds a way to problem solve. He’s the kind of smart that you want and need in a crisis. And he’s also very cognizant of what’s going on with Chimney and his sister enough to be able to try and get through to Chimney about how he needs to move back home. I just love the consistency of having Buck be research crazy, quick to figure things out, and still at times a dumbass. It’s what makes him so perfect.
I also appreciate that he’s called out for having too many rules by Albert and I just want to know all about the rules that Buck would impose on those staying at his place other than the sharing of chores that is mentioned in the episode.
I’m also very curious about Buck and his therapist, the covid crush that literally everyone on the internet scoffed at and figured out even before last week’s episode aired. We were all right. It was fun to see all the crazy theories, though. But I do find it interesting that Buck feels he needs to hide the therapist from everyone because that isn’t really about what he and the therapist might be talking about, as much as it is about not wanting to be judged for needing a therapist.
And his feelings are absolutely valid. Not because I think anyone in the 118, or Maddie, will judge him for needing it, but that they do sometimes her pushy with things and wanting to know more — we see that already with the covid crush thing — but I think it’s also to do with not wanting to explain himself and all of this is even more valid with the knowledge that we have about Buck’s parents showing up.
But, the fandom at large has wanted Buck to talk to a professional for a long time, so I think we’re all very happy that he’s getting help. And I’m also very glad that we got the reveal in this episode and it wasn’t drawn out and made out to be something it isn’t for much longer.
Dr. Copeland. They really know how to pick names on 9-1-1, don’t they?
But of the small clip we get to see of her, it is clear that she is helping Buck and Buck begins the therapy session we get to see by admitting that Dr. Copeland might be right about him hiding his true feelings and Buck, holy hell, what does that mean?
Because, it could literally mean anything. It could be about his sexuality and discovery about his romantic feelings about a fellow firefighter. Or it could be that it’s about how much of himself he hides away or doesn’t present to the world in light of, you know, all the trauma that he’s faced and that we’ve all wanted addressed. This could also tie in some way to his past and that doesn’t have to take away from possible reveals about his sexuality. Mostly, it just makes me more and more excited for Buck Begins.
Overall, an excellent episode. I love the things it touches upon and how the show isn’t steering directly into a deep focus on covid and instead giving us these moments of things have changed and this is how it is now from seeing everyone in masks, to seeing Hen going to her class online, and even down to Buck’s therapy happening over a screen. It is excellently handled when it comes to David and Michael and not only in the confirmation that they are living together in spite of the possible contact with the virus, but in how we see them handle that. Michael taking care of his man. All of that was lovely.
The episode closed out on an amazing note, giving us these momentary glimpses into where everyone is and their familial spaces and the love and acceptance felt there and all the small tidbits and hints at what may be coming up.

i met an angel
I sat across Aly. The room was dimly lit, and our own table was illuminated by a single lamp. The mood was typical of any speakeasy, but what made this place unique were the paintings of --- for lack of a better term --- gentlemen pigs. The irony wasn’t lost on me, and it’s one of the things that makes Three Little Pigs endearing. It was a Tuesday night, but the place was abuzz with patrons out on a weeknight because the following day is a holiday. We weren’t any different.
I felt comfortable in the near-darkness and the chatter surrounding us. It was a constant hum, but muted and controlled; unlike a crowded restaurant during the lunch hour. Scar, a tall lady with short, blonde hair, came over to bring us menus and offered to give recommendations if we had trouble choosing our poison. She reminded us that they had a buy-one-get-one-free promo on gin and tonics. Being shrewd, we decided to go with that; we could order Old Fashioned later if we felt like it.
We spoke about many things. Taking photos, people to take photos of, and people we loved photographing. We talked about our lives; how they’re the same and different at the same time. About love, or more precisely, the lack of it. While on the subject of romance, I felt comfortable to share my own.
“Have I not told you about the last time I actually was in love with someone?”
She confirmed that I never had, so I told her how in 2017, I met an angel. I told her how I spoke to her in a restaurant and about how we spoke on the phone for long periods --- despite the fact that I despise phone calls. I told her how I had come to enjoy her presence in my life, and how she finally asked me what I wanted out of our friendship. I told Aly how at the time my head was barely above the water of credit card debt; how I was unsure of what to do in my career. I told Aly how difficult I was finding it to take care of myself and how I was in no way ready for the responsibility of caring for someone else. I told her about our mutual decision to put the brakes on whatever it was we were doing and focus on our careers. On our selves.
I also told Aly how it was after the fact that I realized I was in love with this angel, but it was already too late. We had come to an agreement, and I intended to stand by it. I recalled as well how over the years she was never entirely out of my mind. And how I reached out to her earlier this year and asked if things were different, and told her that I wanted to see her again. She responded that her situation hasn’t changed. I told Aly how I finally confessed what I truly felt for this woman.
“I just need to let you know that I was in love with you,” I said. To which she replied, “You didn’t know me well enough to be in love with me.”
I narrated how I knew she was right, but it didn’t matter. It was a short time together, but it was intense. For me, at least. And it didn’t matter because it was a conscious decision to love her. My decision.
Aly took my hand and told me that maybe, the timing wasn’t right. If we had met now, things would be different, and maybe we’d be together. And she reassured me that we never really know what tomorrow brings. Perhaps somewhere down the road, our paths would cross again. I shrugged. Perhaps. Maybe. Only God knows.
Before midnight and after an Old Fashioned each, we parted ways. Aly on her journey north to the outskirts of the metro, and I to my thoughts of the woman I’ve set on a pedestal.

He drove me home! 🌸
Ok so basically if you didn't read my last post (you should shameless self promo) I had a club meeting which is the same club T runs. At the end of the meeting we were the only two left and I was bummed because I knew I had to walk home which my house was kinda far and I'm #lazy. Anyways, I walked down to the front of the school because he had to lock the classroom up and I had already said bye so I didn't want to seem annoying - I probably always seem annoying tho.
Anyways, I put my jacket on because it's fucking cold ok? Like arctic level and I leave to start on my journey home. Then, I hear someone shout my name while I'm walking across the cross walk. It's T!!!!
So of course my heart does this little jump (traitor) and he jogs over- which btw he's wearing this cute ass outfit and he looks so good like wtf model.
"You don't have a ride?" Wow, a charmer!
I shook my head and then tried to explain "its fine, I can just walk it's not that far."
"Where is it?"
I considered lying but I sighed and told him and he raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"Not that far my ass." I laughed a little and rolled my eyes.
"Ok, come on." I must have looked so confused because he nodded towards his car,
"I'm giving you a ride."
"No no no you don't have to-"
"Maybe I want to."
"It's because I'm your favorite isn't it?" I tried to keep things light because you know, new territory.
He turned and WINKED AT ME. and I thought I would melt into the ground instantly. Anyways, he leads me to his car which idk car types and I think I should leave that info. Out for privacy reasons.
He opens the door for me and dramatically puts his arm out in the 'enter' gesture and I shake my head but get in. He gets in the other side and starts the car and I put my backpack in the back seat hesitantly, as I'm in the passenger side duh. Music comes on but he turns it off because it's some random station and I look around at his car taking in the water bottle and pack of gum and stuff.
So here comes dialogue- prepare yourselves its long and u might get bored.
T: (after I put my stuff in the back) make yourself at home. *grumbled*
Me: maybe I will!
T: you're so- *shakes head*
Me: speechless?
T: bold.
Me: I'll take that as a compliment
T: you take everything as a compliment
Me: and?
(we laugh)
T: ok so, want to read me one of your poems now that I'm holding you hostage?
Me: nicest kidnapping everrrr
T: see what happens when I don't feed you
Me: it's ok I can survive on.. juicy fruit
T: it's a guilty pleasure
Me: you don't have to justify yourself to me.
T: you're deflecting
Me: so?
T: *sigh dramatically*
Me: ok
T literally smiled so big and lit up and I wanted to jump out of the car because he's such a puppy sometimes.
Me: If you laugh at me I swear to god-
T: What? *teasingly*
Me: I'll drop the class
T: *fake shock* you would never!
Me: try me , *insert first name*
T: that's Mr.*first name to you*
Me: oh so I can call you by your first name?
T: only when you're in my car
Me: ok
It made me feel happy inside. Btw
T: *took his eyes off the road for a second to look at me* I won't laugh at you.
Me: fine *i was blushing hardcore*
I read this poem I wrote about how life changes constantly and how sometimes it gets too much I wish it would slow down and I tried to be as expressive as possible because it was important to me.
*after a few seconds of quiet, we arrived at my house. I felt so insecure in the moment because like idk it was revealing* he parked the car across from it and waited for a second. I decided maybe it had been too much so I went to open the door and get out feeling stupid but then his hand shot out and grabbed my arm and it was legit like a shock of electricity. He pulled back quickly and cleared his throat, "wait." I couldn't make eye contact but I sat back in the car and turned to look at him. He was staring at me and I dropped my gaze to look at the juicy fruit in his cup holder.
T: that was fucking amazing.
I furrowed my eyebrows and shrugged half heartedly.
Me: really? I don't- I think there are certain parts that could change
T: don't change it, please
Me: ok
T: you really don't get it do you?
Me: get what?
(We haven't had a serious convo like this in a while and I didn't feel like trying to lighten the mood so sorry it's boring)
T: you're talented
Me: I'm average
T: not to me
Me: ... thanks
T: I'm serious. *he ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head* I wish I could just make you see what I see
Me: what do you see?
We stared at each other intensely and he was conveying emotion through his gaze but I couldn't tell what
Me: I have to do homework
(The mood changed and I could tell it was done- the convo)
T: oh so now you're a good student
*smirking*
Me: always! I am constantly studying
T: yea yea ok Einstein
Me: *steals a piece of gum*
T: you have to buy me a new pack now
Me: whyyyy
T: because that's the last piece
Me: no it's actually not - there's one right here
T: but I wanted that piece in your hand
Me: oh my god ok I'll buy you a new pack
He grinned and I threw my wrapper trash at him.
T: see you tomorrow also I like juicy fruit
Me: bye T - thanks for the ride! I owe you
T: no you don't, anytime.
Me:I'm getting you trident btw
T: you wouldn't *smirking tho* !
Me: try me.
We laughed and I shut the door and he waited until I was inside to drive away. Idk what it all means but it was intense as fuck I could use some feedback lol

FAQ 2.0
Hello! Mod Kiri here, with some answers to some questions we’ve been getting on the application form! Please check here and the official about page on our blog before sending in a question.
How many artists will be accepted? Miche and I have decided on 15 steps of our version of the hero’s journey, and doubling each one up and tripling several more, depending on who wants to do what step, will add up to 35 final artists.
Doubling and tripling the steps? Without further ado, here is our version of the hero’s journey mythos:
Ordinary World, Call To Adventure, Refusal, Meeting Mentor, Supernatural Aid, Crossing the Threshold, Unknown World, Point of No Return, Tests/Allies/Enemies, Ordeal, The Cave, All Is Lost, Atonement, Resurrection, and The Road Back!
How will you decide who gets what steps of the journey? Steps will be assigned to the 35 chosen artists on a first-come, first-served basis. Artists will pick their top 3 hero’s journey steps AND concept for their art piece, then tell a mod. We will then assemble everyone’s top choices and assign them as fairly as possible.
Does all art have to have Link in it? Yes--feel free to stick to a specific game, or do what Miche has done for our promo art and combine several versions of his various game styles into one conglomeration!
Does all art have to be spoiler-free? No.
Where can I see a timeline of this project? We’ll be making a public Google Calendar as soon as we finalize our promotional artist lineup. In the meantime, here’s a rough schedule:
june 16: artist applications open
june 30th: apps close
july 2nd: acceptance/rejection emails sent out
july 7th: last day for artists to contact mods with art choices
july 21st: WIPs of final pieces due
august 4th: final pieces due
august 12th: preorders open
Thanks so much for your interest and support, everyone! We’re honestly overwhelmed with the amount of people saying that this combines two of their favorite things: writing and LoZ. We hope to deliver an amazing product for you! -Kiri and Miche

Come Again in Camiguin: A Travel Guide to the Island Born of Fire
Tumblr media
You will definitely say that you’ll come back once you have explored this beautiful small paradise. Not just famous for its multiple volcanoes and sweet lanzones, Camiguin is a paradise of unspoiled scenery and joyful people.

Where is Camiguin?
Located in Bohol Sea, off the northern coast of Mindanao, Camiguin is the second smallest province in the country after Batanes. Used to be part of Misamis Oriental, Camiguin is now an independent province under the Northern Mindanao Region or Region X.

How To Get Here?
There are multiple ways to get to this island. The one I took is the fastest and most convenient, yet can be the most expensive. Good thing, I was able to book a promo flight from Cebu to Camiguin for only around Php900 (Usd17) roundtrip. Make sure to follow local airlines on all their social media accounts and subscribe to their newsletter to be notified of their seat sales. As of writing, Skyjet is the only airline that offers a direct flight from Manila to Camiguin. You need to have a layover in Cebu if you’re flying Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines.
Tumblr media
You can also reach Camiguin coming from Mindanao, either fly from Manila or Clark to CDO (Cagayan De Oro) or Butuan. Go to Balingoan Port to take the ferry to Camiguin (Benoni Port). Benoni Port is on the other side of the island, opposite the capital Mambajao, but is already near Mantigue Island. Plan your itinerary accordingly.
Tumblr media
Another way is from Jagna, Bohol entering Camiguin (Balbagon Port) via Super Shuttle Ferry. This port is located in the capital.

 Where To Go?
Touring around the island requires renting a motorbike or hiring a tour guide/driver. I went to Camiguin as a solo traveler and since I am not confident enough to drive to this new place, I opted to hire a tour guide to drive me around with his habal-habal (motorbike). Multicabs and vans are available as well for group travelers.
Tumblr media
My tour guide that time was Kuya Mel whom I met on one of the travel groups on Facebook. He is definitely recommendable as he’ll make sure that you will make the most out of your Camiguin trip. You can reach him here on his Facebook account (Ako si Mel) or contact him at +63 9227800888. Please let him know that you were referred by me. ;)

I stayed in Camiguin for 3 days and had enough time to visit this island on my first day. I did it on DIY by hailing a motorella from my accommodation in Yumbing to CheckPoint (Php9/Usd0.17). I had a quick satisfying lunch first in CheckPoint Camiguin then had a short walk to the White Island Ferry Terminal. The best time to visit White Island is around 5AM to 8PM in the morning and 3PM to 5PM to avoid the scorching heat of the sun.

I almost ditched off this destination but thankfully due to my tour guide’s persistence, I approved his offer to go here since we’re already around the area. There was no entrance fee anyway. And indeed thanks to my tour guide, I was in awe when I saw the clear water of Pamunglo Spring. We were also the only people when we got there. Its cold flowing water definitely eased the afternoon heat.

I opted not to enter anymore and just settled with this overlooking view of the area with the Mantigue island from afar.
Below are some of the spots that we’re unable to visit as most of them were not operational by that time:
Bura Soda Water Pool – It was a Monday and unfortunately, they do cleaning and maintenance on that day. My tour guide was kind enough to still bring me here to taste the water that comes out on this community’s faucets as I was really intrigued about it. He said that it’s safe to drink anyway. One thing is for sure, it doesn’t taste like Sprite. ;)
Saay Cold Spring
Giant Clam Sanctuary
Where to Eat?

CheckPoint Camiguin  – 'Probably the best restaurant in Camiguin that serves cheap delicious meals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Beehive – ‘Quite off the track but definitely worthy of visit.
Tumblr media
Dragonfruit Shake and Honeycomb Cookie
Tumblr media
Island Pizza Express – 'Located in Mambajao, just along the main road. This pizza chain serves brick-oven pizza that is budget-friendly. White Island Pizza is my personal favorite and was recommended by my tour guide.
La Dolce Vita – ‘literally just in front of the airport. It’s more on the expensive side but serves delicious authentic Italian cuisine.
Tumblr media
Where to Buy Pasalubong (Souvenirs)?
Most of us always make sure that we have something from our travel when we get back home. It can be a remembrance to one’s self or a gift for families and friends. Probably the most famous would be a ref magnet, a key chain, or if budget permits, a nice printed tee. My tour guide Kuya Mel advised that the cheapest souvenirs such as ref magnets and key chains can be bought in any of the souvenir shops near the Sunken Cemetery. I was able to purchase 7 (mix of ref magnets and keychains) for only Php100 (Usd1.9). On the other hand, I got a muscle shirt in the “Pasalubong sa Camiguin” near the airport for only Php170 (Usd3.2).
For something edible, Lanzones is definitely on the top list. Camiguin is one of the places that produces the sweetest Lanzones in the entire country. They actually celebrate the Lanzones Festival every third week of October so this might be a good season to go here. For pastry lovers, you need to hoard boxes of VjANDEP Pastel of Camiguin. This delectable bread with its sweet filling is surely loved by everyone.

GRAPS AND CLAPS REVIEWS - PCW 'ROAD TO GLORY' 2019
Tumblr media
Hello and welcome to this edition of Graps and Claps, this time taking me to Blackpool for PCW’s Road to Glory weekender with what was advertised of being two tournaments taking place with the Singles on Saturday and the Tag Team tournament on the Sunday. However, in a change to the advertised schedule there was a removal of the tag tournament probably due to the non-availability of suitable tag combinations. In its place on the Sunday we instead had a TV style taping session for PCW’s new show on the Fight Network which will be launched in the coming weeks. Also being televised will be the Road to Glory Singles Tournament which involved a total of 16 wrestlers – with 8 First Round matches, followed by the Quarters, Semi-Finals and Final all on one enormous day of wrestling.
Now how we are going to do this as it was a ram-packed weekend of grappling action, is to run you through some of the highlights on show and also take you into detail about the Blackpool beer scene or lack of thereof. Arriving into Blackpool at 12 Noon, after a journey of two and half hours coming from my house to Manchester and then to the seaside mecca, we met up with Andrew Campbell who we had been with at the PCW show in Leeds the night before (this will be reviewed by our Geoff later in the week).
With a small amount of time before the show started, we were planning to visit a local real ale choice in the form of The Pump and Truncheon, sadly though this was closed due to a refurbishment. So Instead we plumped for The Castle (a proper Geezer Pub), which looks inviting from the outside, but once you are inside it reminds you of a weekend away in Magaluf with a packed pub full of tourists dancing away to DJ Otzi, getting pissed on gassy lager whilst listening to the styling’s of Joe Curran’s Marmite Show – think of him as Blackpool’s answer to Bernard Manning handing out sharp barbs to anyone daring to walk past him to the toilets, so sharp were these barbs he had to have a bouncer stand next to him in-case anyone decided to spark him out!.
Tumblr media
With the 1st PCW show starting at 1pm, we made our way to the venue with what I would say around 100 in attendance for the first show, meaning those who had bought the cheaper tickets got moved forward into the VIP front row seats, so lucky for me I could stretch my legs for the duration for 3 out of the 4 shows. In general, the attendance was around the same level for all 4 shows with Show 2 and Show 4 providing the larger crowds which was a shame. However, with that said and it can’t be denied is that PCW produced 4 solid shows on this weekend – so let’s start with the show 1.
Best matches:
Jeff Cobb vs Tom Lawler – A masterclass in grappling and the pure wrestling style with Olympic trained wrestler and current ROH TV Champion Jeff Cobb taking on the current MLW Champion, Tom Lawlor. If you like your wrestling full of Suplex variations from both guys, plus hard lariats this was the one for you with the former UFC star Lawlor getting the victory with a rear naked choke on Cobb to advance to the next round in around 15 minutes and for me the best match of the 4 shows taking place in Blackpool. Lawlor is easily someone I can see like a certain Matt Riddle who can reach that top level in the world of wrestling, as he has done in the world of MMA.
Tumblr media
Sheikh El-Sham vs Philip Michael – Two of PCWs standouts from the Academy, took to the squared circle in the match before the interval and once again they proved why they are both so highly rated by many people on the local scene. One constant you will read through this report is how good Sheikh El-Sham is getting nowadays from a character and an all-round package standpoint – from the promos, the sneers and subtle winding-up of the crown, plus a look of someone who can go very far in his wrestling career – he is coming off with that star quality. Philip has a star quality from a wrestling standpoint, but I do feel he needs that little bit of pizazz added to his repertoire ala Zack Sabre Jr to push to that next level, but that will come with time. What would become Philip’s downfall in this match, would be played out for the rest of the weekend, as he went to leap at Sham, but on landing he jarred his knee – something that both Sheikh El-Sham and Tel Banham would target on the other shows.
Another thing to point out from this match, would be the first appearance of Referee, Mark Alexander Price who the previous evening cost T-Bone winning the PCW Heavyweight Title off of Tel Banham, by reversing a decision a replacement ref made whilst Price was knocked down. The story with Price was that being hinted was he the main heel group ‘The Buyout’ paid off official in which he would somehow always get in the way of The Buyout’s opponent and in turn costing them the match with his biased officiating. As a weekend long story, this was fantastically done with every time that Price made his entrance to the ring he got mercifully booed from the crowd in attendance.
As per this match, Price got in Philip Michael’s way causing Phil to be caught with the roll-through spear by Sham who advanced to the next round to the jeers of the audience. Before this match we had an appearance during an interview segment by Tel Banham who challenged Philip to a Cruiserweight title match that would take place later on in the second show due to Philip being eliminated – more on that later!
Tumblr media
Sugar Dunkerton vs MJF – Plenty of shenanigans in this one with Sugar riling up MJF by nicking his Burberry scarf and duly wiping his arse with it. MJF who impressed when he was over last May, was once excellent again as the cocky ‘Better than You’ antagonist compared to the fun-loving Dunkerton who had the crowd firmly on his side on this what was the 1-year anniversary of his first tour of the UK. Unfortunately for Sugar, it wouldn’t end so well as MJF kicked Sugar in the bollocks whilst Referee Des wasn’t looking and rolled up Sugar whilst having a hand on the ropes for more leverage to advance to the next round.
Other results from Round 1 were as follows:
‘Magnificent’ Matthew Brooks beat Dave Birch when hit the Big Leg for the three count. A big plus for Brooks this weekend, was the usually temperamental microphones were on amazing form this weekend, so his beautiful singing voice could be heard at full capacity.
Puerto Rico’s own Franco Varga who comes out to the Ricky Martin classic ‘Living La Vida Loca’ beat ‘Big Time’ Bruce Wheeler who is an Academy Graduate who has been wrestling for the last 8 months and whilst some of his ring work needs a bit of fine tuning, his mic work is very good for someone who hasn’t been doing this long. Franco who impressed on this weekend, especially with the kids in attendance who swamped him for photographs at the end of the show advanced to the next round when he hit a F5 into a stunner and then a Moonsault for the three count.
Jaxon Stone Everybody!! Who has the look of former Newcastle player Jonas Gutierrez put away Planet Bolton’s own Arcadian in a good contest that was back and forth for the duration of the contest, which ended when Jaxon put away Arcadian with a powerbomb to advance.
In what was supposed to Daniel Thorley (Academy Trainee) vs Iestyn Rees, never got going due to BIG T who felt jilted that he wasn’t in the tournament came in to lay waste to Daniel in the end racking him, to leave Iestyn just to walk to the ring to get the forfeit victory which had people thinking that Rees would be soon to be a member of the Buyout, despite him saying that he wanted to be his own man at the last show in Blackpool – this would be played out later in the show and the weekend.
Main event of show 1 was battle of former friends with Danny Hope taking on Joey Hayes. In what was very much a slow burner type of a match, that turned good near the end – Joey Hayes advanced when he locked in the Cross-Hayes on Danny to win via submission. Hope had earlier during the match thought he had won, but the referee noticed Hope had his feet on the ropes and promptly stopped the count.
Show one done – a quick drop off of my bags at our B&B for the evening, that being The Trentham B&B which cost £41 for the night, but the only down point being the low roof in my roof, meaning me and Geoff would have to very careful once we rolled in at 2 am half cut! Two pubs were visited in between Show 1 and 2, that being the local branch of Hogarths for a pint of Cheadle House Bitter at a cost of £1.95 to wet the taste buds whilst observing the bouncer in there who had the look of MJF less the Burberry scarf.
The other pub we tried in between was The 1887 Brew Room, which is the site of the formation of Blackpool F.C and has been turned into in the last year, into a brew pub as of West Coast brewery. This has been well needed in the town, as there is very much a lack of real ale choices apart the two ‘Spoons. Two pints in here were had including a Tiny Rebel Rise Lager (4.2% £3.90) and an 1887 Brew House Lager (4% £2.85), both which were very good being accompanied with a foot-long sausage and nachos for £4.25. This pub would be visited again after Show 2, for another two-hour session this time with The Indy Corner boys (Benno, JP and Joe and Colin) who had come up for the weekend – all cracking company throughout the time they were there.
Show two now, so let’s get into the best of the action:
MJF vs Joey Hayes – in a rematch of a cracker, MJF took on Joey Hayes, with Joey looking to avenge his defeat in May and once again they didn’t disappoint as MJF looked to finish off Joey with his rope-assisted piledriver, but only got a two count as he complained to the referee which soon led to his downfall as not long after this, Joey hit the JKO to get the three count and to advance to the Semi-Finals. Good crowd head especially with MJF who once again was a star on the microphone – this fella is money!!
Tom Lawlor vs Jaxon Stone & Franco Varga vs Iestyn Rees followed next in what were two very good big lad’s matches, with the Stone vs Lawler being probably the best of these two with Lawlor very much being on the defensive surviving close countouts at the count of 9 to carry on. Lawlor however managed to choke out the BIG Jaxon at the third attempt to advance to the Semis. In the other quarter, after a valiant effort by Franco Varga, he finally succumbed to iestyn Rees who beat him with the Alpha Lock to also cement his place in the Semi-Finals.
Shenanigans galore in the final Quarter match when Sheikh El-Sham scrambled through against ‘Magnificent’ Matthew Brooks after Sham was in a pinning position on Brooks, but with the aid of Danny Hope holding Brooks foot on the outside for added leverage to get the three count BOOOO!!! So your final 4 – Lawlor, Sham, Rees and Hayes!
Half-Time Main Event was a proper tour de force of emotions as Philip Michael challenged Tel Banham once again for the Cruiserweight Title, after losing in Blackpool the last time at Club Domain, so for Philip this was a chance at retribution. Fully based around Banham working on the already injured knee of Michael from earlier on, he was trying everything within his power to make the man from Accrington tap out. However, at one stage near the end of this match it looked like Philip would do the unthinkable and make Tel tap in a modified ‘Rings of Saturn’ but to the sadness of the crowd in attendance, Tel would get to the ropes. With the match reaching around the 20-minute marker it would be Tel who had done enough work on Phil to make him pass out from the pain to deflate the crowd into one big huff – an excellent match up though, that the crowd were fully invested in for the duration of – well done lads!!
Tumblr media
Semi-Finals of the tournament we had Iestyn Rees facing Joey Hayes, which was all going well until BIG T got involved once again on this day to remonstrate with Iestyn who he had been courting on behalf of his group. This led though, to distract Iestyn enough to be rolled up by Joey who advances to the Road to Glory final leaving an angry man from Gloucester baying for BIG T’s blood.
In the other Semi-Final we had Sheikh El-Sham vs Tom Lawlor in an interesting styles clash, which on paper many people thought Lawlor would advance, but once we saw who the official was for the match doubt set in (Mark Alexander Price once again!!). Price would get involved once again as he gave a fast count as Sheikh had Lawlor pinned much to the disgust of the crowd. After the match, Lawlor would get his revenge as he choked out Price enough, that it ruled him out from reffing/spoiling the final.
Before the final we had a 6-man tag to break things up with ‘The Buyout’ (BIG T, Danny Hope and Nightshade) taking on Sugar Dunkerton, Matthew Brooks and Arcadian. In a really fun break from singles action, it would be ‘The Buyout’ who would get the victory as BIG T hit the final sentence to Arcadian to get the 3 count.
Tumblr media
Final time now, with Sheikh El-Sham coming out on a royal throne carried by security in a proper WrestleMania type entrance – that had me applauding like a seal – taking on Joey Hayes in the Road to Glory Final. This match is very poignant for Sheikh, as his first ever match was against Hayes at the PCW Academy when he was defeated by the man from Leigh, since then though Sham has had the upper hand, but would it be the same on this evening. Lots of interference in this one including ‘The Buyout’ getting involved, that was until Referee Des ejected them, we had signs of tension between Sham and Banham as well – which in the future we could see played out!
As the match was reaching its climax and with Sham on Top, BIG T came in as well to put the final exclamation to Hayes whilst Des was floored, but out comes Iestyn Rees with a chair to wallop T over the head to send him packing. This in turn lead to Joey Hayes locking in the Cross Hayes at the second attempt to get the Submission to send the crowd home happy and to win the Road to Glory tournament and an opportunity at the PCW Title at a later date. A fitting way to end a fantastic, storyline driven tournament!
Tumblr media
Show done, it was time to visit the bright lights of Blackpool, as mentioned spending a couple of hours once again in The Brew Room till around 10:15pm. That was before we made our way to The Castle only for that to be shut! However, we did end up going to The Layton Rakes Wetherspoons to sample the £1.95 bottles of Sierra Nevada, followed by Knobby’s Karaoke Bar to here many songs being mercifully murdered by the locals – including a rendition of The Cranberries hit ‘Zombie’
Next on the beer crawl of Blackpool, was local Irish bar ‘Shenanigans’ which can only be described as a shithole, where we stopped for an hour only before my dancing got even worse! Last pub for us was The Miffin which was a decent café style bar, but it was a bit dead like that scene out of The Inbetweeners whilst we sang along to ‘Sugar Sugar’ by The Archies as requested by my mate Andrew! That said it was time for me, Geoff and Jan to leave The Indy Corner boys and Andrew to party the night away in the local Popworld – of which I had reports of stunning barmaid from Andrew.
Waking up the next morning at 930am, we made our way down for breakfast which was a good effort, but I never understand why all B&B’s insist on only giving you 1 sausage??? Meeting up with Jan and Andrew we made our way in for Show 3 of the Blackpool weekend, not before being surprised when walking into the local CEX to see a DVD of something called ‘The Brave Little Toaster’, supposedly a Children’s film from the late 80’s costing the pricey sum of £28 – FUCK ME!!
Tumblr media
Anyways, less about toasters and let’s get into what happened in Show 3 and 4 – these being the TV tapings for the Fight Network shows, so be aware of spoilers to come! Starting off the first taping we had Philip Michael who was still carrying a bit of a knee injury from the previous evening taking on Dave Birch! A very good start to proceedings here, with both wrestlers impressing, but if I am being a bit picky it maybe could have had a couple of minutes shaved off it as they were trying to hit all the moves – still excellent by all accounts. Philip got the victory here with the Rings of Saturn to Birch after earlier hitting a Canadian Destroyer on Birch for a two count.
The sounds of Big T’s entrance were heard next as he came out to take on Arcadian. As expected this was a bit of a mauling apart from Arcadian at least getting the big fella down to one knee with kicks. T finished off Arcadian in quick fashion with The Final Sentence to get the win, once again teasing us with the non-appearance of his famous rack move ‘The T-Break’.
More comedy stylings next as ‘BIG TIME” Bruce Wheeler took on Sugar Dunkerton. Plenty of talk prior to the match was of Bruce Wheeler saying that he had the writing credits to the tune ‘Sugar Sugar’ like a 1960s version of Gary Barlow nicking all of the writing credits – which got a few laughs from my mate Andrew about this! Sadly, this was no laughing matter for Wheeler as he was put away with a roll-through X-Factor for the win.
Non-title Women’s action with Desi Derata taking on the PCW Women’s Champion Nightshade. Derata who had been beaten by Nightshade in a 3-way match on Friday in Leeds was looking for revenge here. Early portion of this match was a bit rough around the edges, but as it went on it turned into a good contest, in which Derata got the shock victory by hitting a spinning bomb to Nightshade to get the 3 and as we would see later in Show 4 – a title shot. Unfortunately, though in the later match, it wasn’t meant to be for Desi as she was put away by Nightshade with a high-angled German Suplex to get the win. Nightshade it has to be said is very good at getting the crowd riled up and it is good to see her getting some newer opponents to start off 2019 – keep an eye out for her!
Next two matches were a decent Big lads match with Jaxon Stone taking on Franco Varga in which Stone got the victory and Iestyn Rees disposing Danny Hope in quick time – let it be known this wasn’t a good weekend for the Sheriff of Tasseltown, as apart from the 6-person match, he lost every match!
Up next we had the unveiling of a new PCW signing that being Joe Hendry, who we would find out was a supposed attacker of Matthew Brooks (which was announced at the start of the show that Brooks would not be appearing because of this). With Hendry proclaiming that he is a better singer and a wrestler than Brooks, this prompted Brooks’ friend Sugar Dunkerton to come out to remonstrate with Hendry – in a very good back and forth talking segment, it would be Sugar who ended up sending Hendry packing to the back with a right hook, but not before Hendry challenged Sugar to a time of his choosing which would be later on in the Second show. Good stuff this!
Main event of the first show was an All-Star tag with Sheikh El-Sham and Tel Banham trying to work out their differences, taking on Joey Hayes and Tom Lawlor. A chaotic tag match that ended up with the crooked referee Mark Price getting involved once again with some underhanded skulduggery and also the rest of Buyout interfering to stop Lawlor doing any damage. With Danny Hope and BIG T occupying both Tom Lawlor and Jeff Cobb, the latter who had come out to save his mate, this left Banham free to clock Joey with the PCW Title belt to Joey Hayes to floor him to get the three count as Price counted the fall to get the tainted win for The Buyout!
After the match though, Joey dusted himself off to challenge Banham for the PCW Title in the second show to send the crowd off for an hour break before the 4thand final show started. During the break, it was time to get some Fish and Chips from the Chippy next to Coral Island, which were are solid 8/10 standard costing £6.55! I forgot to say whilst I am typing, that beer was shunned in the first show by quite a few of us nursing hangovers – instead plumping for £2.50 cups of Slush Puppies – many a brain freeze was had in the space of 2 hours.
4th and final show now, starting off with 4-way action with Jaxon Stone taking on Dave Birch, Bruce Wheeler and Franco Varga respectively. In a really fun opener to get the crowd warmed up once again, the popular Franco got the victory here by hitting the F5 stunner to Birch to get the victory here to end what was successful first time showing here in the U.K for the Puerto Rican! After the match, Dave Birch got onto the mic, to say that he was sick of all the losses and needed to seek change to get his fledgling career back on track.
After the aforementioned Women’s match we then had 3rd on – Danny Hope taking on Arcadian. After a prolonged beat down of Arcadian by Hope, out of nowhere the man from Planet Bolton shocked The Sheriff with a springboard cutter from out of nowhere to get the shock win! Which was nice to see as Arcadian impressed quite a few onlookers on this weekend, including Joe and JP, whilst we are on the subject got us all talking about Babylon Zoo which Arcadian uses their hit ‘Spaceman’ as his theme – only at the wrestling can these conversations ever come up!.
Next up was announced as an ‘I Quit’ match between Sheikh El-Sham and Philip Michael (something to be probably explained on TV to this stipulation). An added stipulation to this match was if the Sheikh won, then Phil would have to join The Buyout, if Phil won – The Buyout would have to disband! This was very much a match to show off the Sheikh’s dominance as he beat down on Phil’s already injured right leg, constantly targeting this throughout the match and after around 15 minutes he eventually made Phil scream ‘I QUIT!’ after the pain was too much for the lad from Accrington – so with that said – A reluctant Phil now has to be The Buyout’s slave for the foreseeable future.
Joe Hendry vs Sugar was up next to settle out their squabble in the earlier interview segment. In another good storyline driven match, for which PCW are very good at nowadays, it would Joe Hendry who would get the victory with a roll-up and a hand on the rope similar to an MJF victory the night before – very much to the boos of the crowd in attendance. So with that win, it looks like Hendry is going to be moving into a feud with Matthew Brooks, expect the Sing-Off and many other singing related games between these masters of the voice.
Three matches to go and we come back with a return match from Show 1, with Jeff Cobb once again taking on Filthy Tom Lawlor in a similar type of match to that one, with both hitting hard strikes and throws, but on this occasion, it would be the man from Guam getting the victory as Jeff Cobb hit the ‘Tour of the Islands’ to give Lawlor a hard landing to get the three count in a hard-fought contest with both lads giving each other a deserved show of respect!
More big lads action with Iestyn Rees and BIG T trying to settle their differences. Even though this was short, it still had some great spots including Rees doing a wonderful dive to T on the outside and also managing to slam T in the centre of the ring. With Rees locking in the Alpha Lock to T and with him ready to tap, Sheikh El-Sham ran in to attack Rees with a Chair to cause the DQ. It now looks like this is the direction for the next couple of months in PCW with Rees taking on Sham – which I am certainly all for! Rees is certainly getting over well in this new babyface role.
Tumblr media
Main event time now and your final match for the weekend was for the PCW Heavyweight Title with the Champion, Tel Banham taking on the No.1 Contender Joey Hayes. Luckily for Joey fans at the start, PCW Honcho Steven Fludder ordered the dismissal of crooked referee Mark Price, leading to Price being fired and then duly removed by security - an excellent way to end the weekend long storyline with him. You would think as well with all of the wrestling that had just passed that the crowd would be tired, but this match the whole audience engaged from the start. None more than the moment Tel Banham went to hit Joey with the belt only to be thwarted by Referee Des, and then hit with a JKO for the nearest of three counts that had the crowd on the edge of there seats.
Thankfully though for Joey, he was wise once again when Banham went to hit him with the belt again, only for Hayes to lock in the Cross Hayes on Tel to make him tap out onto the belt (great visual) to become PCW Heavyweight Champion to a great reception from the crowd.
Tumblr media
There we have it then! A tour de force of a weekend, which a couple of thank you's go out to the young lad in the front row who didn't stop chanting all weekend and gave me a rest which was needed much on the Sunday shows. Also a thank you to Rick 'The Rock' (PCW Regular) with his help with some of the results and his thoughts on the weekend - go and check him out on Youtube (The Peoples WWE Channel)!
In closing, despite some low attendances, the outlook for PCW does look good from a storyline stand point with the main baddies looking a threat especially Banham, BIG T, Hendry and Sheikh El Sham. From the goody side Hayes, Rees, Sugar and Brooks look to be their dance partners with also Philip Michael looking on within the buyout - I for one am excited from a story standpoint of things!
I hope you have enjoyed reading this review of PCWs weekend in Blackpool - give them a check out online or when they are on The Fight Network. I will see you next time when I go to Leeds once again for Tidal Wrestling so until then - BYE!!

Summertime Pre-Game 2017
For all that I complain about summer, it’s usually the season when I tend to discover a lot of new favorites. Last year’s batch turned out to be great, and looking back at that list brings me some good memories, so I hope I can say the same about whatever summer 2017 brings me. But before we go in, I wanted to share some song obsessions from the in-between months of April to June.
Here’s a list of 10 songs that didn’t make it to this playlist but deserved a mention from the past few months. If you want to see what I liked from the last three months, here’s the list for seasons loves of January–March.
Tumblr media
“Akatsuki”
Babymetal Babymetal (2014)
Su-Metal’s solo cuts remove an air of novelty from her group to deliver deep sincerity as much as honest skill. The latter drives home the former in the chorus of this B-side, where she crosses her heart to protect her love even if her body gives out — a compelling theme of the best Babymetal ballads.
Tumblr media
“Unknown Journey IV”
Drexciya Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller III (2013)
Helena Hauff played this in her incredible mix for BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix series this year. With so much subterranean techno queued, it was only a matter of time she played a Drexciya cut, and I had to hunt down which exact record from the Detroit legends was home to this funky melody.
Tumblr media
“don’t forget me not”
Gang Parade Barely Last (2016)
Like “WE ARE the iDOL” in the same album, crushing defeat felt by Gang Parade through their road to achieve their aspirations hits home. Though the group take the brutal experience in stride come the chorus, a cloud of self-doubt never quite clears, casting the song with one bittersweet shade.
Tumblr media
“8-Bit Boy”
Natsume Mito Natsumelo (2017)
Bygone video-game flick Pixels might have got more hits in the U.S. had they followed Japan’s lead and hired Yasutaka Nakata to produce a promo single. Mito plays a perfect character in his 8-bit world, bridging the bubbly pop of his kawaii sound and the goofy silliness needed to pull off such a romance.
Tumblr media
“Magic Mirror”
Seiko Oomori Tokyo Black Hole (2016)
Seiko Oomori’s best songs sing the life of nobodies trying to be somebody. But while she voices their misery in “Magic Mirror” as one of them, the punk-rocker also speaks back in the voice of the very artist they rely on. With a full understanding of the power of song, she hands in one noble mission statement.
Tumblr media
“Touch My Body”
Sistar (2014)
It’s no wonder Giorgio Moroder called Sistar to collaborate. The four were responsible for some of the most joyous disco cuts celebrating womanhood on the dance floor. “Touch My Body” is all invitation — but all on their terms. And it’s a brand of self-confidence I’ll surely miss from pop.
Tumblr media
“Go! Go! Heaven”
Speed Starting Over (1996)
The unbreakable optimism carried by these young teens is a quality to envy — and damn, do their vocals possess the intensity to back it up too.  They set out to reach the promised land no matter the obstacle. For these kids to even have faith it’s out there give me nothing but inspiration.
Tumblr media
“Blue”
Sugababes Angels with Dirty Faces (2002)
The sense of dread spun by their ghastly harmonies as well as the beat’s computer glitches and dank bass line belong wholly in Sugababes’ England. While the acoustic-guitar chorus and the trio’s hip-hop cadence owe a sum to The Writing’s on the Wall, the dark vulnerability is all theirs.
Tumblr media
“Everyday at the Bus Stop”
Tommy February6 Tommy February6 (2002)
From the music to her crushes, Tommy February6 writes one vibrant world of a shy teen girl. She opens this particular love letter with a riff that sounds like a toy keyboard’s demo reel of a B-side from Madonna’s self-titled debut, and the cheapness of it all only makes my heart swoon more.

“Twiggy”
Wednesday Campanella Zipangu (2015)
Kenmochi Hidefumi tries his hand at a more club record, a beat genre Japan’s rich digital underground provides by the tons. With the speedy track lasting barely two minutes, Kom_I, meanwhile, jets out the door, ready to embrace the city in high fashion — just like the song’s namesake.
