After hearing about Jim Caviezel being an asshole on set, I had a brief thought about an alternate universe where the show killed Reece off instead of Carter and now I’m obsessed with this AU

John dies and in grief Carter tracks Finch down (also grieving and at a loss now he can’t help the numbers) to the library and demands an explanation. Finch explains and asks for help saving at least one number while he tries to figure out what to do.

The plot plays out in a similar way - Root still kidnaps Finch, Shaw joins the team, they adopt Bear (via Shaw rather than Reece), and Fusco is still here.

But instead of Reece, it’s Carter hanging out with Finch at the library and having to juggle her job as a cop with herding Team Machine like a bunch of cats while trying to save numbers.

I just like the idea of Finch and Carter bonding as besties

I do hate that Carter died in Person of Interest, but also I love the way POI handles death. No one is ever forgotten and Carter’s death and her impact on people reverberated through the seasons.

She was loved and missed in-universe and bts, and I actually really loved Terra Firma because it was such a loving legacy to Carter while also using it to call on John’s bullshit romanticizing of Jessica.

John told himself a fairytale story, he broke up with Jessica for his own reasons that had nothing to do with protecting her. He has guilt he put on himself.

Jessica didn’t carry that with her, John did. And he used that reason to keep people at arms length, even Joss. He thought he had all the time in the world to open for her but in their line of world, they never had anytime at all.

I miss character-centric episodes like this that shows that have more than 8 episodes have a run way for.

But also what a great tribute to Carter.

No one’s doing shows like POI anymore, not even the POI-writers.
