Rent-inspired lino print 📹🕯🎸🐄👗📃
I've had a few variations of this design sitting in my sketchbook for the last six months. Finally got around to finalising a design and carving it last week.

I saw Tick Tick Boom. I met Brandon Uranowitz, Grey Henson, and Nikhil Saboo. What is life??
I’ve always wanted to see TTB (still haven’t seen the movie) since I was fifteen. As a teenager, devoured every clip and listened to the original cast recording over and over again. I never thought in a million years that I’d ever buy a ticket to see the musical. I had an orchestra seat and it was magical.
The blocking, choreography, and stage production was amazing to watch. I finally got to live my dream.

Tick Tick Boom is movie that really speaks to me. Jonathon Larson's story of trying to achieve success and leave his mark in the world of art that you love with the limited time we all have has only gotten more relatable since I saw it. That and 30/90 is an absolute banger that I listened to constantly since I saw it and Andrew Garfield, Lin Manuel Miranda, Alexandra Shipp, Vanessa Hudgens and co all knock it out of the park. Go watch if you haven't already.

Angel on Christmas Eve
It was Christmas Eve and I lay
Bloody and beaten on the cold concrete
My coat was gone and all I had was a few dollars
Then suddenly you flew into my life
You helped me to my feet
And with your vibrant personality
It was hard to be meek
My life changed for the better
Once black and white
I saw color
Your drumming kept my heart beating
Kept me believing
I fondly remember all of the great times we had
From running down the streets of New York
To dancing on the subway
Every moment spent with you
Made my day
But now I am left alone
After your heart expired
With only memories
It's only to see you again that I desire
Notes: I wrote this right after I watched Rent.

I ALMOST FORGOT I LOVE TIK, TIK... BUM! TOO!!!!! the andrew garfield version is so good,.... i cried. and there is a polish version being played by the same theater rn so i'm debating seeing that as well :]
I am always of the belief that live theatre is one of the best storytelling methods especially if it was written for that purpose so I would def say go see it!!! I haven't seen the musical live yet at all so I'm rlly curious abt the staging!

Review 3: Rent!
Rating: 3/5
How familiar I am with it: I’ve listened to a good chunk of the album, read the plot on Wikipedia, and talked about it with my mom (who’s seen it).
Characters: So uh didn’t Angel kill a dog? I genuinely wanted to write about the characters and their struggles, but uh I kept getting caught up with the fact that ANGEL KILLED A FREAKING DOG! (In all honestly, even though they can be unlikable at times, I quite like Mark and a few other characters)
Plot: Now, if it was any other musical I would say that the plots really depressing and not fun. However, this is Rent. It’s supposed to be depressing. It shows what life was like during the AIDS crisis. So, I think it’s necessary
Songs: I wasn’t the hugest fan of the music. “Seasons of Love” is of course a banger and I enjoy “One Song Glory” and “Tango: Maureen,” but the rest seem to fall flat. (I do like Jonathon Larson’s music though! I love Tick Tick Boom)
Overall thoughts: I’m not the biggest fan of Rent but I think it’s an important musical.

Rent is literally my favorite musical, partially because I know the story behind it. It wasn't even a huge budget, it was small and discarded and it changed the world. I love Jonathon Larson. I wish he could see what his work has done.
I don't think I've ever said this before, but thanks, Jesus.
This actually meant a lot to me. I'm just one guy who loves Rent, but I'm sure there's other people this means a lot to.
A friendly reminder from one artist to another; RENT was a discarded idea. RENT was something Jonathan Larson came up with and forgot. And it changed the world.
That rough draft you have, that stupid idea you had three years ago? That could alter someone’s brain chemistry. You could change the world.
You could change the world.
Please don’t give up. Please don’t stop writing. Please don’t stop drawing. Please don’t stop making music. Please don’t stop thinking those beautiful, terrifying thoughts that live inside your mind. Because you’re incredible.
And if some random guy waiting tables in SoHo can alter the minds of a nation, then why can’t you?
And don’t give me some crap about you being too old, either. He was in his thirties when RENT got its funding. He was dead before opening night.
Moral of the story is this; it’s never too late. Even after you’re gone, you will continue to change the world. You mean something, your art means something.
You could change the world.
