IIT JAM Vs GATE: Which Exam is Right for You?
For students aspiring to advance their academic or professional journeys, IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for MSc) and GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) are two of the most prestigious national-level exams in India. Both are organized by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), but they cater to different purposes and audiences. If you're unsure which exam aligns with your career aspirations, this guide highlights the key differences to help you decide.
Purpose and Goals
IIT JAM: This exam is aimed at students who wish to pursue MSc, Joint MSc-PhD, or other postgraduate programs in science at institutes like IITs, NITs, and IISc. It’s an excellent choice for candidates aspiring to establish a career in research, academia, or science-related fields. Subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, and more.

Pump-Action Summer - A Dixon & Dong Joint
The home on Gonád Road came up in real estate listings as a villa or sometimes a compound. At ground level, a handful of separate structures connected by basements, bridges, and verandas formed a horseshoe around the gardens and swimming pool. The main house stood three stories tall including the attic which opened into a sun room which opened onto a rooftop patio. Somewhere inside were a half-dozen bedroom suites, a commercial-grade kitchen, a private movie theatre, and a highly profitable laboratory. The DiFrodesiac twins knew all this. Their research lay open on their laps as they surveilled the place.
Besides every estate listing, public document, and news clipping for the house going back thirty years, they had manila folders for all four of the occupants, the three members of the Humongous family, as well as their long-time manservant Grone. Jonathan Pritchard Humongous (MS, MSc, PhD) and Adelia Forsythe-Clicks (MA, MSc) were soon to celebrate twenty-eight years of marriage and recently held a party for their daughter Ethel’s twenty-fifth birthday. Ms. Forsythe-Clicks’s architectural firm brought in most of the bacon although Dr. Humongous’s scientific revenue should not be sneezed at. Her buildings drove up rents in every major skyline worldwide, and his patents were the crown jewels of industrial espionage. Ethel Humongous (MS, multiple Bango Award winner) shared some of her father’s patents, held two of her own, and made spectacular erotic cinema. The twins had seen her films and predictably not reacted.
The front door to the house swung sharply open, and Ethel Humongous bounded out. She was evenly caramel-toned from head to foot, with eyes as gold as her hair, and small all over except where it paid better to be large. Her breasts were handsome in the archaic sense, and she had never groomed her thatch. No one had ever asked her to; it was immaculate. She was otherwise physically unremarkable yet utterly superb in terms of personality. No one had ever disliked Ethel except at a distance, and the twins were not far enough away, parked as they were just across the street in their inconspicuous hire car. They both felt an alien stirring in their deficient loins and, with perfect synchronicity, wiggled uncomfortably.
Proximity to Ethel turned a lens on something they’d only understood at an academic level and forced on them personal experience of the prurient, albeit as fleeting as perfume from a passing gondola. What had been a purely mercenary assignment immediately became blood vendetta. The twin riding shotgun turned and reached for the violin case on the back seat, but his brother’s gentle hand on his shoulder stopped him. True, there would be time later for brutale delicto. For now, they still had a tail job to perform, and the DiFrodesiacs were nothing if not dedicated to a good tailing.
Ethel Humongous pulled her sexy little roadster out onto the road, and the twins followed at a professional distance. She led them down the long, empty roads of the suburban hills into downtown California Beach. Traffic thickened. The twins closed the distance of their tail because they could and because they had to. They drove and drove. Ethel stopped at corner stores, clothes shops, delis, and everywhere else up and down the city. She was an easy tail. She obeyed every traffic law and kept a good amount under the speed limit, typical of a youth out to enjoy their salad days in an open-top car in summer, the blue skies overhead and ocean breezes in their hair.
Down along the beachfront, though, she broke the pattern. At a signal turning red from amber, she accelerated hard to beat the light. Ethel’s roadster leapt through the intersection and swung left. The low chassis leaned hard on the right-hand springs as the actor at the wheel pushed the envelope. Both twins felt a surging anxiety. Had she made them? They shared a quick glance that communicated an entire debate. They relaxed. There was no way this bubbly little girl had made them, no chance she was giving them the runaround. They were two of the best. They were focused on their job, unrelenting agents undistracted by carnal trinkets like handjobs or butt stuff. Their perfect record ran longer than that girl had been alive.
The light changed, and they roared around the corner. They scanned the road ahead for their quarry. Surf shacks, convenience stores, taco stands, and taco stands, and taco stands passed by on either side. Every strand of beautiful person seemed to be out and enjoying the day.
Neither twin noticed a sexy little roadster slip into traffic behind them, Ethel Humongous at the wheel, microcamera in hand.

Tumblr media
Anushree Chaudhuri and Rupert Li have won Marshall Scholarships, a prestigious British government-funded fellowship that offers exceptional American students the opportunity to pursue several years of graduate study in any field at any university in the United Kingdom. Up to 50 scholarships are awarded each year by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.
The students were advised and supported by the distinguished fellowships team, led by Associate Dean Kim Benard in Career Advising and Professional Development. They also received mentorship from the Presidential Committee on Distinguished Fellowships, co-chaired by professors Will Broadhead and Nancy Kanwisher.
“The MIT students who applied for this year's Marshall Scholarship embody that combination of intellectual prowess, hard work, and civic-mindedness that characterizes the Institute at its best,” says Broadhead. “These students are truly amazing! The thoughtfulness and optimism they demonstrated throughout the months-long exercise in critical reflection and personal growth that the application process demands impressed and inspired us all. On behalf of the Distinguished Fellowships Committee, Nancy and I are thrilled to extend our warmest congratulations to Anushree and Rupert and our very best wishes as they take their richly deserved places in the Marshall Scholar community.”
Anushree Chaudhuri
Anushree Chaudhuri from San Diego, California, will graduate next spring with bachelor’s degrees in urban studies and planning and economics and a master's in city planning. As a Marshall Scholar, she plans to pursue an MPhil/PhD in environmental policy and development at the London School of Economics and Political Science. In the future, Chaudhuri hopes to work across the public and private sectors to drive structural changes that connect global environmental challenges to local community contexts. Since 2021, Chaudhuri has worked with Professor Larry Susskind in the Science Impact Collaborative to study local responses to large-scale renewable energy projects. This past summer, she traveled around California to document the experiences of rural and Indigenous communities most directly affected by energy transitions.
Chaudhuri has also worked with the U.S. Department of Energy, the World Wildlife Fund, and an environmental, social, and governance investing startup, as well as with several groups at MIT including the Office of Sustainability, Environmental Solutions Initiative, and the Climate and Sustainability Consortium. She represented MIT as an undergraduate delegate to the United Nations COP27. On campus, Chaudhuri co-leads the Student Sustainability Coalition, an umbrella organization for student sustainability groups. She has previously served as chair of Undergraduate Association Sustainability; a co-lead of the student campaign to revise MIT’s Fast Forward Climate Action Plan; judicial chair of Burton-Conner House; and as a representative on several campus committees, including the Corporation Joint Advisory Committee. She also loves to sing and write. In 2023, Chaudhuri was named a Udall Scholar and an MIT Burchard Scholar. By taking an interdisciplinary approach that combines law, planning, economics, participatory research, and data science, she is committed to a public service career addressing social and climate injustices.

From Bureaucracy To Politics, Dr. Thota Chandrashekhar Has Left No Stone Unturned
As the President of the BRS party, Dr. Thota Chandrashekhar, a retired IAS officer with a MSc and a PHD, has been making waves in Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Chandrashekhar has gone above and beyond in his efforts to change the state, drawing on his impressive political and bureaucratic experience. A rare honor for an ex-IAS officer is that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao recently appointed him as the President of the AP BRS. Dr. T Chandrashekhar's new blood donation crusade, which saw in excess of 100 individuals give blood, was only one of his numerous drives pointed toward working on the existences of individuals, and he likewise coordinated the planting of trees on Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao's birthday, featuring his obligation to natural manageability. His accomplishments go past these new occasions. As a previous IAS official, he has a noteworthy history of public help. During his time in the common help, he served in different limits in the public authority of Andhra Pradesh, including as the Collector of East Godavari region, Joint Secretary in the Division of Modern Approach and Advancement in the Service of Business and Industry, and Chief General of the Public Foundation of Customs, Extract, and Opiates. Dr. Thota's work as Collector of East Godavari Locale was especially remarkable. During his tenure, he implemented a number of novel initiatives, such as a project to promote organic farming and a program to empower rural women. The district became a model for sustainable development under his leadership, with an emphasis on agriculture and rural development. Dr. Chandrashekhar has been involved in politics in addition to his work in the civil service. Since then, he has put in a lot of effort to advance the party's agenda and effect change in the state. Dr. Chandrashekhar has voiced his disapproval of Andhra Pradesh's current situation. He has been straightforward about the unfortunate condition of framework, the absence of water system and drinking water, and the developing issue of joblessness. Additionally, he has criticized the state's political leadership, claiming that they have not kept their promises to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Notwithstanding these difficulties, Dr. Chandrashekhar stays hopeful about what's in store. He is of the opinion that the BRS party will emerge as a viable alternative to the state's current political parties. He has illustrated an unmistakable vision for the party, zeroed in on advancing supportable turn of events, enabling ladies, and working on the existences of individuals of Andhra Pradesh. In conclusion, Dr. Thota Chandrashekhar is a remarkable person who has worked for the public good all his life. His most recent tree planting and blood donation campaigns are just the recent manifestations of his unrelenting efforts to improve the lives of others. His great history in the common assistance and his obligation to legislative issues have assisted him with turning into a strong voice for change in Andhra Pradesh. The state's future appears to be very bright with Dr. Chandrashekhar in charge of the Ap BRS Andhrapradesh.

She is an associate professor of physics at University of Alberta and the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair for Quantum Simulation with Ultracold Quantum Gases. Her work involves quantum simulation, quantum memory, and developing hybrid quantum systems.
Dr. LeBlanc completed a BSc in engineering physics at University of Alberta. She earned a MSc and PhD in physics at University of Toronto researching ferromagnetism in ultracold Fermi gas winning the 2011 CAP Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Canada (DAMOPC) Thesis Prize for her PhD thesis on “Exploring many-body physics with ultracold atoms”. She conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at the Joint Quantum Institute of National Institute of Standards and Technology and University of Maryland, College Park.
She is part of the multidisciplinary QUANTA (QUantum Nanotechnology Training in Alberta) CREATE program team which trains graduate students in emerging quantum technologies. She was also a fellow of Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR)'s quantum materials program. At the U of A, LeBlanc started a research group and leads quantum simulation experiments and explores atomic quantum memory and hybrid quantum technologies. She has led development of new techniques to build quantum memories using ultracold rubidium atoms to store pulses of light encoding quantum information. She also studies hybridization of solid state devices in ultracold gasses and aims to extend quantum correlations between systems. LeBlanc's research may lead to the engineering of more energy-efficient electronic devices that use many-body behaviour.
