IIT Kanpur to host 56th convocation ceremony on July 3
IIT Kanpur will confer its highest honorary academic degree— the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon boxer and politician, MC Mary Kom.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur will be hosting its 56th convocation on July 3 with NR Narayana Murthy as their chief guest. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was established on November 2, 1959.
This year, a total of 2,127 students will receive their degrees. Apart from the degrees, various prizes and medals will also be awarded to students across several categories. IIT Kanpur will confer its highest honorary academic degree — the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon boxer and politician, MC Mary Kom.
Out of the 2,127 degrees, 236 are for PhD students, 15 from MTech-PhD (joint degree), 483 from MTech, 739 from BTech, 21 MBA students, 16 MDes students, 51 from MS (by research), 40 from PGPEX-VLFM, one diploma student from IIT (DIIT), 151 MSc (2 year course) students, 18 double major students, 125 students from dual degree, 14 from MS-PD (MS part of dual degree), 149 from BS and 68 students from eMasters degree programmes.
Murthy is an alumnus of the institute and is known for shaping India’s IT industry. He pursued MTech from IIT Kanpur in 1969.

The University of Iceland is seeking a Post doctoral researcher in bioinformatics to work on research and to build up bioinformatic services. The university has established Mimir, a computer cluster for bioinformatic analyses. The researcher will have dual responsibilities, one as a bioinformatics manager working with different research groups, many of which take part in the Biomedical center, University of Iceland (http://bit.ly/2ppyMpe) and the other as a researcher working with the Melsted bioinformatics group (http://bit.ly/2ICETQ3). Field of work The managerial duties are, installing and maintaining selected bioinformatic programs and libraries, establish analysis workflows, assist groups with specific projects and analyses, train graduate students and other researchers. The research project with the Melsted group will focus on development of algorithms for high throughput sequencing and programs for analyses of DNA/RNA assembly or RNA quantification. The candidate will have an opportunity to take part in ongoing research projects, earn co-authorship on scientific manuscripts, and perform independent research. Qualification requirements Doctoral degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or equivalent. Extensive experience working in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or equivalent is required. Practical experience with linux and bioinformatics, for example installing programs, scripts, libraries and handling updates, programming and scripting in Python, R/Bioconductor and bash and run next-generation genome data analyses programs is essential. Direct experience and interest in developing bioinformatic software and develop accessible tools and workflows for the scientific community is desired. Science Academies’ Summer Research Fellowship Programme for Students and Teachers 2021 notification has been released. Indian Academy of Sciences – Bengaluru, Indian National Science Academy – New Delhi & The National Academy of Sciences – Allahabad has invited applications for a two-month Summer Research Fellowship.
Summer Research Fellowship Program 2021
General
1) The application should be submitted online in the prescribed format. This link is available in the websites of the three Academies (www.ias.ac.in; www.insaindia.res.in; www.nasi.org.in).
2) It’s mandatory to upload the marks sheets from class X till the last examination. Please have the scanned versions of mark sheets (in JPEG format), before starting to fill up the application.
 3) Only one application per candidate will be considered. If more than one application is submitted, none of the applications will be considered.
4) Answers to columns indicated by an asterisk (*) are mandatory and must be filled.
5) The last date for receipt of applications online is 30 November 2020.

8) Ph.D. students are not eligible.
9) Applicants who have availed the Academies fellowship twice before are not eligible to apply.

10) The applicant should include a write-up (about 150–250 words) as to the specific area of the applicant and indicate what he/she would like to learn and achieve through this fellowship. It can also include the specific experiment or theory that the applicant wants to work on but NOT a general description of the area. The write-up should not be a “copy and paste” job from any source.
11) Do not use special/scientific characters like Ø Ü etc…as the software will prevent you from uploading the application with such characters.

13) Teacher applicants should upload their publications if any. On selection, an authorization letter from the Principal/HoD that necessary permission/leave of absence will be granted should be sent by post to the Coordinator, SRFP 2021, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru 560 080.
Other matters
14) Student applicants must upload the contact details of one of their present teachers or the Head of the Department (HoD). The Academy will get in touch with the teacher and obtain the recommendation letter.
15) All decisions regarding the selection of candidates will be at the sole discretion of the Academies. Any grievance or dispute concerning SRFP 2021 shall be addressed to the Academy whose decision thereon shall be final.
16) If a candidate is found at any point of time to have submitted false information, his/her fellowship will be canceled, and he/she will be asked to pay back the fellowship amount/travel allowance etc. that has been paid to him/her. Further his/her guide and the Institution in which he/she is currently studying will be informed of the matter.
17) Without prejudice to 15) above, only the courts at Bengaluru city shall be the fora for seeking judicial remedy, if any, for any dispute or grievance.

About IIT JAM
National test for admission to MSc (Two Years), Joint M.Sc.-PhD, MSc-PhD Dual Degree, MSc-MS (Research)/PhD Dual Degree and other Post-Bachelor Degree programmes at IITs (Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, (ISM) Dhanbad, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Patna, Roorkee, Tirupati, Ropar and (BHU) Varanasi for the academic session 2020-2021.
JAM score will be used by IISc Bangalore for admission to the Integrated Ph.D. programmes. JAM score will also be used by other centrally funded technical institutions like NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET Punjab and IISERs for admission to their programmes.
Structure and Mode of  IIT JAM 2020
JAM 2020 Examination will be conducted online only. A candidate can appear in either one test paper or two test papers by paying an additional fee for the second test paper. Candidates opting to appear in two test papers must ensure that the opted test papers are not scheduled in the same session.
Patterns of Test Papers
JAM 2020 Test papers will be fully objective type with three patterns of questions: (1) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), (2) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and (3) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

IIT JAM Admission Procedure:
Admission to various academic programmes at IIT for Academic Session 2020-2021 shall be made based on the All India merit list of JAM 2020. Candidates who qualify in any test paper of JAM 2020 will be eligible to apply for admission to all the academic programmes corresponding to that test paper, provided they also satisfy the minimum educational qualifications and the eligibility requirements as specified by the institute(s) in which admission is sought.
Admission shall be given in the order of merit depending on the number of seats available at the admitting institute(s). After the declaration of JAM 2020 results, qualified candidates should apply online at common admission portal (JOAPS) through the Organizing Institute (IIT Kanpur) specifying preferences for the programmes of their interest. Further details regarding admission, prescribed fees, etc.  Reservation policy is applicable as per the Government of India norms.

Eligibility Criteria and Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQ) for Admission
In the qualifying degree, the aggregate marks or CGPA/ CPI without rounding-off should be at least 55% or 5.5 out of 10 for General/ OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates and 50% or 5.0 out of 10 for SC/ST and PwD category candidates (if CGPA/CPI is on a different scale, would be linearly mapped to a scale on 10).
 Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with the required eligibility and specified by the admitting institute should be submitted by September 30, 2020.
