i'm specifically thinking of the scene right before ellie goes into his house, where it pans to all the letters and flowers and everything in memoriam of him outside.

and i'm literally sitting here crying because like? they loved him. not just ellie. people in jackson loved him. he protected them.

he had ellie and he had his brother back and he was probably starting to feel okay again, okay enough to help a random girl stranded in the woods and trust her just for it to end like that.

joel deserved better. he deserved to be a grandfather and he deserved to live.

I’m gonna say something rude I’m gonna make people mad (well people on the ship) whatever I know some of your cubs will agree me so yeah. I know you’re sick and I feel badly for saying it but I miss you so much. I miss your stories and omg I how you feel better soon because the ship needs your stories because you actually write a fucking story that’s not depraved or fucking weird. Between you and oldtimerbuckley, your the only ones holding this thing together.

You know, sometimes when I get an anon ask I wonder if the sender can hear me in their head, the low whistling sound I make. This is a lot, and it took me a minute to formulate a response - because trust me, I thought about deleting this, but nah, let’s do this.

This is such a backhanded compliment - I’m sure olldtimerbuckley would appreciate praise for their work, but at the same time would likely be disappointed - like me - that readers are resorting to dragging down other writers in order to raise up certain writers. This has become a recurring theme in fandom where we have to drag some writers through the mud in order to make others feel good. And that’s not what this is about.

See the thing about fandom - and let’s face it, art in general - is that it’s not for everyone. I’m a big fan of Pedro Pascal, that’s pretty well known. I’ve seen almost everything he’s been in but I’m not actively in every fandom - it just doesn’t interest me enough. I devote most of my time to stories about Joel - and even then, I have certain likes and tastes and that’s my personal preference. And my tastes aren’t for everyone.

That includes the forbidden ship. It’s most certainly not for everyone - and once you board the ship, like everyone other ship in fandom, everything on the ship is not for everyone. There is something for everyone on the forbidden ship. What you like is for you and if you don’t like it - don’t fucking read it.

I have looked through the recent stories in the Joel/Ellie tag on ao3 and it looks like - from kudos and comments - that the ship is doing just fine. I’m sorry that it doesn’t appeal to you, but that doesn’t give you the right to try and lift me up by bringing someone else down. Writers in fandom work hard and are passionate about what they write - for free - and the funny thing about fandom writers is that most of us live by a simple philosophy: we write for ourselves and maybe six other like minded people, everything else is just the cherry on the sundae.

I’m flattered that you miss my writing, but I’m disappointed that you felt the need to say what you said.
