Whumpril #27: Please Don't Go
She is the outsider amongst the crew. Not because she is the newest, nor the youngest, though that does exclude her from the years of in-jokes and history they share, not to mention the fact that even the worst of the spacer’s bars on the most questionable of asteroids raise an eyebrow at her, isolating her from the recreation the other crew share.
It’s not any of that.
It’s not even - exactly - that they are family and she is…not. They are stand-offish, brusque, untrusting; as are the many other rebels she has met during her scant fifteen years. They would welcome her, she could be one of them: a place bought for her with her family name and the fact that Darrow, at least, had a history with uncle Romulus. It’s that she has a family and, alone as she may be now, she is not looking to replace them.
Academically, she knows they are dead, knows they bought her life with theirs. She has nightmares of them in cells, gaunt and bleeding and grey with exhaustion and pain, memories long buried from her barely-more-than-infancy of her mother, slashed open throat to groin by a stazer whip, hot iron blood pouring over Rosie, the shock that had locked horrified screams behind baby teeth and kept her wide eyed and blankly staring. The last protection her mother had given her. Her mother’s face and blood and howl of agony replaced by uncle Romulus’ and uncle Cyrus’ and her dad’s in turn until she barely sleeps at all, wanders the ship like the restless ghost she imagines them to be.
She knows those visions are likely true. Or, more likely, not true. Her mother’s death was too quick, too painless for what they will do to her dad.
But her heart does not believe it and, though she recognises the brittle loneliness in Nico and Casey, the willingness to welcome and accept her in David and Gene, the cautious and flattering trust extended by Darrow, she can’t make herself take the final step and accept them. She has a family who died for her, and to accept others into her heart seems the worst way to replay them. She, of everyone aboard the Valjean, except perhaps Lee, has never wanted for love or acceptance. She has never known the fear that those closest to her could turn on her at any moment. Rosie has always known deep in her guts and bones and soul that everyone she loves would give themselves up to any fate to protect her from so much as a bruise. She doesn’t know how to love without that assurance, with the caution that Jemma and Jay learned in slave camps and delta grade work parties and Darrow learned from his military superiors and David from his own children who’d reported him to the inquisition.
Then she falls ill. It’s inevitable. She is barely sleeping, rarely eating and a lifetime dirt-side has left her immune system ill prepared for the recycled air and water shipboard.
She lies in her cabin, shaking with chills and burning with fever and knowing that she’s going to live through it and still still still won’t get to see her family, her real family, again. Ever again.
David tends her, reassures her it’s spacer’s flu and they’ve all had it, coaxes her to eat and drugs her to rest and she hates him for not being the retired veterinarian who was the only medical professional her dad had trusted with her. She resents Jemma for stroking her hair and mopping her brow and helping her to change and stripping her sheets. She’s heard enough whispers by now to know that Jemma would love a child but fears to bring one into the world she inhabits. She’s no one's daughter. Not anymore.
Nico and Casey sit with her, keep her company and she hates herself for how uncomfortable they make her, but she’d grown up in a secluded parochial community. She’s never seen a non-human before. She doesn’t know which of their many eyes to look at, nor how to ask without sounding like a fool and a dirt rat. She pretends to sleep because she can keep her eyes shut.
Gene coddles the environmental systems in her room so she can change the temperature by the tiniest of increments by voice control. She can alter the gravity, relieving her sore muscles of her weight. And it’s not fair that he can do such a thing when uncle Cyrus would have faithfully promised he was going to and then broken something crucial trying because he was a shit engineer.
She can barely look at either Darrow or Lee because they still have each other and it’s not fair. Because if she can’t have her dad, even when she’s ill and alone and the pain in her heart is worse than the pounding behind her eyes, then why does Lee still get to have his? She had long since grown out of believing that her dad hung the moon.
My daddy can do anything, she had once told a teacher and never been allowed to forget it.
But at a push, if necessary, he would have caught her if she’d fallen off the edge of the world. So where is he? She knows that answer and it’s her fault, just as her mother’s death had been. Weapon in hand, but unable to bring it to bare with a squirming three year old in her arms, she hadn’t even died on her feet, on her knees hunched over Rosie, making a shield of blood and flesh and bone and she’d let uncle Cyrus and uncle Romulus and dad do the same. As though she’s worth four lives.
And as though the crew of the Valjean can ever be that to her.
Which is when Jay comes to see her. He looks careworn at the corners of his eyes. She has a vague idea he’d been off ship, searching out information from someone and about something, but her tired, aching head can’t grasp the details.
“Spacer’s flu, huh?”
She wants to scream. Another person to be kind and sympathetic and treat her like a child and do it wrong. She would sell her very soul to be called Rosie-Posie by uncle Romulus and offered a cup of lime icy that he always forgets is dad’s favourite, not hers.
Jay settles in the chair by her bed and regards her.
“You gunna tell me everyone gets it?” she rasps out and is proud of how steady her voice is.
A smile tugs the corner of his mouth. “Nah. You know that. I’m the last in and Gene loves to state the obvious.”
That almost makes her smile. “You gunna read to me?”
Jay raises an eyebrow. “You want me to?”
No one has asked. They’ve all just treated her like their child and she isn’t. “Uncle Cyrus used to read to me if I was sick.” It both is and isn’t an answer.
Jay nods and doesn’t reach for his tablet. “You miss them.”
She has to swallow twice to answer like a crew member, not like a little girl. “Gene’s not the only one who states the obvious.”
Once again the near smile tugs at his mouth. “Stupid thing to say.” There’s a silence, long and considering and eventually Jay offers, “I still miss mine.”
“You’re not going to tell me it gets easier?”
This answer comes quick and certain. “It doesn’t.”
Rosie forces herself to sputter a laugh instead of tears. “You are not a comforting man.”
“It gets familiar if that helps. But my-” and to Rosie’s surprise there are tears glimmering at the corner of his eyes. For the first time, such easy trust offered to her doesn’t enrage her. Jay gives her this because their loss is the same, not because he’s claiming her in a way only her family have a right to. “My parents were killed for hiding me.”
“Hiding you?”
“I was born on Adroit. There are strict population controls. I was my parents' fourth child. They hid me until I was almost 6, then my older brother told his best friend and her parents reported mine. My whole family was put to death. I was allowed to live.” Another silence. “I’ve never been sure if that was their punishment or mine.”
Voice tight, Rosie offers, “We were hidden, by the time our proximity alarms went off we were surrounded. Uncle Romulus sent out a message to his contacts, Darrow was the only one near enough to answer. They…they…pushed me into our only capsule, then they made a production of surrendering. The famous Porter family,” her voice turns bitter. “Every ship in the whole quadrant was focused on them humiliating themselves. No one picked up a single capsule.”
Jay nods. Rosie’s not wrong. He was on the bridge. Darrow had been foaming at the mouth, desperate to charge in and help, unable to peel himself away from the vid-screen. It had been Nico and Casey who picked up the weak, encoded transponder, Lee and Jay who reeled the capsule aboard. Darrow had been watching the Porters, looking for a moment to drop a charge on them. If death in fire and explosion was the last mercy he could have given Romulus he would have done it.
Rosie realises she’s crying. It’s the first time she’s wept in front of any of them.
Jay does not reach out in an overly familiar way. Does not wipe her tears away with the blade of his thumb as he dad had done; does not sling an arm around her shoulders and pull her into the warmth and shelter of his body as uncle Cyrus used to; does not hold her hand and tease her hair and call her infantile nicknames like uncle Romulus.
He doesn’t touch her at all.
He offers her a scrap of mostly clean fabric and busies himself looking away from her face by refilling her water glass.
“Do you want me to go?” No one else aboard would have thought to ask that, would have seen a crying child that they should comfort and help and protect.
“No.” Rosie surprises herself by answering. “No…don’t…please don’t go.”

“HEY BABY, I’M IN THE PARKING LOT.”
One of the very best things about being friends with someone for so long and so completely was that Elle didn’t even bother to ask any questions. We could operate on the same brain frequency sometimes. I knew that if I showed up to anyone else’s place at this time of night – well, okay, morning because it was fucking one am – there would at least be a couple of inquiries about my sanity or, in DK’s case, some grumbling about interrupting his cuddles with Jemma Moss. He could be such a selfish asshole sometimes, I swear. And stingy with his cuddles, too.
But because Elle loved me and was literally the best person in the universe, I only had to wait eight minutes before she came out of her dorm building carrying her purse and a blanket because the air had started to catch a chill. Her eyes were still wide, a shimmering green, so I knew that I hadn’t woken her up.
She yawned when she pulled my truck door open and hopped in, but her smile was soft and warm when she looked over at me and kissed me on the cheek. “Couldn’t sleep?”
I shrugged a shoulder instead of answering aloud and cast a wry grin in her direction. She was well versed in my spontaneous bouts of insomnia so I knew that I didn’t really have to explain it to her. On nights like these I always showed up to her place and we picked a random direction to drive in until I found a spot that felt like a good place to stop. She was usually the navigator, I was the driver, and we just kind of let fate do whatever it wanted with us.
“I’m controlling the playlist,” she announced and pulled up my phone to start rifling through her options. “And whenever you want to tell me what’s wrong, I’m all ears.” She didn’t bother to give me a chance to object to her decision to dj, so I already knew that it wasn’t a fight that I was going to win tonight.
It was fine. We both knew that I didn’t really mind.
“Nothing’s wrong,” I countered while she poked around on my phone. There was nothing on there that she couldn’t see and, anyway, her biometrics were hooked to all of my things. Because Elle was the person who was responsible for wiping my searches clean if I died unexpectedly or fell into a coma or some shit. So the government wouldn’t think I was on some serial killer schtick if shit went down… I was just curious, damn!
“My brain just won’t stop,” I made a turning motion with my hand and she nodded in understanding. “Why were you still up?”
“Sketching out a design for a new dress,” she beamed at me and my heart turned over. I fucking loved the way her designs gave her so much joy. “I just finished up when you called, so perfect timing. Ohhh!” She squirmed, excited all over again, and pressed onto the screen with her finger. “Secret music!”
I chuckled because I recognized the playlist immediately after hearing her words, as my own guitar sounds came streaming through the truck speakers. “These are not secret, baby. Just unfinished.”
“Yes, but you’ve never played them for me,” she cut an accusing look at me from the corner of her eyes and I didn’t bother to dispute it. Okay, so, we didn’t have any secrets. That was true. But fuck. I hadn’t ever played her this particular set of songs probably for a reason. And not one I wanted to delve into, so I just didn’t bother to respond.
Elle got quiet as she listened and I concentrated my attention to the road ahead of me instead of categorizing her reactions to the sporadic hints of lyrics and ever-switching melodies playing through the speakers.
She was a quick study, so by the time the playlist repeated Elle was humming along. “These are good, Gav!” She smacked my leg lightly in what I knew was admonishment for keeping them from her. “I didn’t know you were writing your own stuff. Why doesn’t the band play any of these?!”
I hummed, but I could feel the rush of heat sliding down from my cheeks to my neck. “Eh… Cressida’s pretty particular about the mood of our songs. These don’t really fit.” They weren’t love songs, exactly, but they weren’t… not… Cressida and Aidan had some kind of ban on love songs.
Besides I didn’t want to fucking share them.
The songs weren’t about being in love. They weren’t. But they were whatever the fucking platonic adjacent of that was – the way that I felt about my friends. The ones that I knew I would keep forever. So, yeah. They were kind of personal and the irony of Elle softly humming along was not lost on me.
“Your singing’s not so bad. We could go on the road together,” she teased, bumping her shoulder into mine, and I grinned back at her. It wasn’t the first time she’d said something similar or that I had agreed to it, either.
“I thought that was already the plan.”
“Unless you dump me for DK. He gets kinda pouty every time I say we’re going to have our own two-man band one day.”
“Yeah, yeah. That fucker doesn’t know how to share,” I scowled playfully out the windshield, seeing a nice little turn ahead that looked like exactly the kind of place that I wanted to stop.
“Only him?” Elle teased, aghast. “I’m pretty sure he’s in good company with you on that front, mister.”
I made an affronted sound as I found my spot and pulled over. “The fuck, Elle? I resemble that remark.”
She giggled as she swung her door open, following my lead. “You really, really do.” She hopped down and clapped her hands. “Okay! Now for something lighter!” And she switched the music to a really pop-y boy band that I absolutely fucking refused to admit I knew the name of and started belting out the lyrics with her arms thrown wide.
I turned the music up a bit and followed her out, glancing up at the sky with a long sigh. It was a beautiful night out and there probably weren’t too many of them left. I knew once the cold really seeped in it wouldn’t let up again for months and I wasn’t looking forward to it.
But tonight the air was decent and the stars were bright, and I was in the company of my absolute favorite girl in the fucking world.
“Sing with me, Gavin!” Elle crowed, taking my hand, and so I danced with her and joined my voice with hers as we used the truck’s headlights for illumination under the stars.
And this was why we took these drives on my sleepless nights. I knew that when I got home my head wouldn’t be unsettled anymore. Instead I would just feel like everything was exactly as it should be, even though I also knew there would be a niggling part of me wishing things could stay exactly like this forever. Just never fucking change.
It was a fool’s hope, for sure, but I could afford to hold onto it for just a little longer yet.

He still felt bad about how things ended that day. He didn't mean to make it seem like he wasn't attracted to Armi, because that was not the case at all. His dick surely didn't agree. If it was anyone else, he would do it—fuck her and not care about the consequences. He couldn't with Armi. Amos meant the world to him and somehow the little brat managed to worm her way into his heart. Odd how his life was turning out. After losing Diana, he never thought he would ever open up again, yet here he was. He'd been scared shitless to talk to Amos, and when his best friend stood up, he was sure he was about to get decked. Not that he would blame Amos. If Amos or Rhys kissed Sloane or Jemma, he would get defensive and would want answers too. But to his surprise, his friend was oddly rather chill about it.
At that point, he had been stunned into silence, unable to believe what he was hearing. Amos was…okay with this? With him and Armi? It seemed too good to be true. But as they talked more, his best friend made it clear that he trusted Kian completely and knew he would never do anything to hurt Armi. Now, as Armi stood before him calling him a "great friend", Kian looked at her like she had lost her god damned mind. Friends? What the fuck? He didn't want to be friends, he wanted to be with her. Unable to hold back any longer, he pulled her into his arms and crashed his lips against hers in a searing kiss. When he finally pulled back, breathless and panting, he asked, "Does this feel like I want to be your friend? Damn, Armi, for a smart woman, you're obtuse sometimes."
Before she could respond, he was backing her towards the wall and kissing her again, pouring every ounce of pent-up longing and desire into the embrace. His hands roamed her curves as he pressed his body flush against hers, letting her feel exactly what she did to him. "I don't want to be your friend, Armi," he murmured against her lips. "I want to be yours, completely. I want to wake up with you in my arms every morning and fall asleep with you every night. I want everyone to know that you're mine and I'm yours. No more hiding, no more pretending. Just us, together. Tell me that’s what you want too?" His lips trailed along her neck, because Jesus the woman was hot and he wanted to devour her if he could. The taste of her skin was intoxicating, like a drug he couldn't get enough of. He nipped and sucked at her pulse point, relishing the little gasps and moans that escaped her lips. Did she ever realize how crazy he made her? Ever since he started noticing her, he’d wanted this. Wanted to touch her without feeling like fucking creep. His hands slid under her shirt, caressing the smooth skin of her back as he ground his hips against hers. He was already rock hard, his desire for her overwhelming in its intensity.
Tumblr media
Armi responded with a small nod as Kian simply replied that it was time for bed. She hadn't expected him to accompany her that way, so when he softy touched her, she'd flinch away from his touch. Once she was settled in bed, the alcohol cloud in her brain seemed to help lure her to sleep. A blessing truly, but she'd find herself awaking as soon as the sun began to shine through her curtains. The pounding in her head the first thing she noticed as she came to. Fuck. Next was the smell of breakfast -- was that bacon? God, she could use some bacon and coffee. Slowly, she'd sit him, the pounding in her only intensifying the more she moved. She groaned in agony before he sat her feet onto the ground and pushed herself up from her bed.
Swinging open the door, she'd make her way down the hallway, a hand pressed against her forehead, and a yawn escaping her lips, "Mara-- coffee, pronto!" She called out, only to come to a full haul when she realized it wasn't Mara in her kitchen, but Kian. "Kian--" She spoke, surprised to see that he was still here, and not only that, but he cooked breakfast? Her eyes glanced to the spread and then back up at him. Confusion laced her features as pieces of the night before started rushing back. She gave him a nod as he spoke, not even having the energy to argue if she so pleased. She made her way towards the stool at her counter, and plopped down in it. Resting an elbow on the counter top, with her head against her palm, she caught the coffee mug with her other hand, and immediately brought it to her lips. The warm liquid gold immediately ran straight to her soul. She set the mug back down and looked up at him through thick eye lashes, "Thanks." She'd find herself eating some bacon, and picking at a pancake; if she hadn't been hungover, she might've noticed the awkward silence, but she didn't. She simply felt at peace for the time being. She'd bring her attention onto Kian as he began speaking, placing her head back in her palm as he explained. She smiled softy at him and shook her head, "I'm not mad at you, Kian." She replied, "I was never mad at you." How could she be? He was a good guy, and she was proud of him for that. "I was mad at myself, it's hard to explain." Sitting up straight, "I appreciate that you're a good guy, Kian. It's one of the reasons why I like you, and I hope you never change." She assured him, "So, don't feel like you needed to apologize, because you don't." "Amos is your best friend, and you respect him. And I respect that for you both." She added, "I get it, because there isn't much Amos won't joke around about, but I know I'm not one of those things; and it was a wise move." She really wanted him to understand that she wasn't mad at him. "I wouldn't want to be the reason something went wrong with you and Amos." She'd scoot the stool back and stood, making her way towards Kian, she'd stop before him, and tilted her head to look up at him. "I like you, Kian. I've liked you for a very long time, and a huge reason for that is because of you being you." She expressed, "I wouldn't want that to change. And yeah, maybe I got a little upset the other day, but -- I don't know, I thought maybe you were finally seeing me." She sighed, "Not Amos' sister, or the brat -- but me." She gave him a kind smile, "I meant what I said last night, we're good." She promised, leaning in, she placed a soft kiss against his cheek, "You mean a lot to me, too, and I wouldn't ask you to ruin your friendship with my brother." She said as she pulled away, "Thank you, though. For getting me home last night, and for making breakfast. You're a great friend."

The Things She Loves
Tumblr media
The Things She Loves (1,4k words) Summary: Jemma couldn't deny that there was definitely something to be said about a man doing dishes in a nice pair of jeans and a prone-to-get-transparent-when-wet, white t-shirt. Or Jemma should be doing taxes but there are other things she'd rather be doing. Pairing: FitzSimmons Square : Competence Kink for @mcukinkbingo Tags: domestic FitzSimmons, Jemma has no chill, Fitz doing dishes, Jemma not doing taxes, old married couple
Rated: T
Beta’d by the wonderful @libbyweasley :) Thanks again for taking the time to do all this work for me, especially this past week since I reaaaaally wanted that bingo :D
Jemma never thought she'd be that woman. The kind to be so easily turned on by something as simple as a man doing manual labor. She could fight it all she wanted, but she couldn't deny that there was definitely something to be said about a man doing dishes in a nice pair of jeans and a prone-to-get-transparent-when-wet, white t-shirt.
She'd always thought she liked watching him work because there was nothing sexier than science combined with a brilliant mind and dexterous fingers but she supposed it mostly had to do with the latter after all: the regularity of his gestures, almost like it was choreographed, the way he almost caressed the delicate porcelain plates or flexed his arms rather enticingly to scrub the dirtiest pans. Jemma uncrossed her legs and crossed them the other way as she looked back down towards her laptop and their tax returns. Before she knew it, her screen was displaying her screensaver instead, as her mind had strayed towards much nicer territory. She looked back up and bit her lip. Fitz was humming under his breath and swaying his hips slightly, probably without even realizing it. To think she had to insist for him to dance with her, and here he was, taunting her when she was busy doing the most boring thing in the world.
Keep reading on AO3
And that was my last story for this third round of Kink Bingo and the shortest story I ever managed to write :)

Tumblr media
Daisy hated the sound of the bells at The Academy. Screeching, awful, way too loud, the bells were the bane of her existence. They all wore standard-issue watches from the lab that monitored vitals and gave them reminders, and also told the time, for god’s sake! Fitz had even modified hers so that she could play snake on the tiny watch face! There was no need for the bells to be so excruciatingly disruptive. Though, Daisy guessed, there were many things more tortuous than bells ringing every hour and fifteen minutes.
Daisy slowed to a jog, cutting her morning run short. The bright side to being a third-year was that you chose your schedule, for the most part, and that meant Daisy had a free first period for four out of five days of classes. She usually spent this free period getting an extra hour in at the gym, boxing or sparring with Mack or Bobbi, two fourth years that had reluctantly taken her under their wings, or sleeping in. She reserved sleeping in for especially rough nights where visions of ashes and earthquakes and lightning returned time and time again, no matter how many deep breaths she took or sheep she counted.
But this morning was not one of those mornings. She had been up before sunrise, a little before her usual alarm and silently headed out of her dorm for a run. It was humid this time of year on most Virginia mornings, but never so hot that it made Daisy feel as if she was being smothered. The cooler air chilled her sweaty skin, her chest rising and falling as she jogged up the three flights of steps to the second years’ dorms. Down one long hallway, and she arrived at her room.
Daisy had been given her own room at the start of last year, complete with poly-adaptic-proto-whatever panels, which she had painted a pastel shade of purple, to compliment the greens of her cacti and the dark purples and blacks of everything else in her room. Even May had agreed that the stark white was too ”psych wing” for a bedroom. Daisy was grateful for the space, but considering the panels and the private room were only necessary since...
She shuddered. Grabbing her shower caddy, Daisy set off to the bathroom at the opposite end of the hall, hoping no one else was spending a free first period at the dorms.
Her shoulder-length waves were wet from bouncing against her neck, and starting to become annoying now that the sweat had dried and was starting to itch. Picking the white tiled shower furthest away from the door, Daisy quickly turned the water on, checked the temperature, pulled her sports bra and shorts off and hopped into the shower. Shampoo, condition, soap body, rinse. Checking her watch, Daisy found that she had showered in record time, less than three minutes. After spending another five just enjoying the hot water, she hopped out and changed into her class clothes.
Dark purple leggings, Coulson’s grey vintage SHIELD tee and a pair of white running sneakers she had “borrowed” from Jemma completed her look. Passing the mirrors, Daisy tried not to glance at herself. If her hair was messy or her undereye bags a bit too dark, she didn’t want to know. Instead, she headed back to her room to pack her bag for the day.
SHIELD-issued laptop, extra hard drives and a charger, Advanced CS 3: Ethical Hacking: Theory and Application, Advanced CS 4: Secrets of The Coding Languages, Physics notebook, an essay that was three days late on some boring book about international laws, and her sparring gear were all thrown into the black bag. She gave a second glance at the Russian notebooks Bobbi had loaned to her, promising that she’d learn without taking the class. Oh well, she still had all of this term to start. Plus, would she ever really need more than the dirty words?
One look at the alarm clock that sat on her dark hardwood night table showed that she still had almost forty-five minutes before she had to be in the computer lab. Sitting down on her bed, Daisy ran a hand over the grey blanket May had given her.
Daisy’s relationship with May and Coulson had been something of a problem with other students when she first got here. Some had been okay with the obvious paternal love Coulson showed for Daisy, showing her around and checking up on her, scheduling lunch dates and reminding her of tests. May was more subtle, texting her links to tai chi videos when she noticed Daisy getting too stressed or letting Daisy do her own thing if she saw that she was overwhelmed. Of course, none of the other students knew her family history, what she had gone through just to realize that May and Coulson were more her parents than her biological father and mother could ever be. She would see them later today—May during field training and Coulson in between lectures in the canteen.
Daisy walked over to her window to open her blinds, staring out at the campus she had grown to love. The large brick buildings scattered around acres of the Virginia countryside; green fields meant for physical activities like sparring or obstacle courses, or simply basking in the weather to study or chat; the dorms—red brick and concrete melded together to upgrade and expand the charming style of previously-built homes.
Grabbing a protein bar, Daisy headed to the canteen to make a green smoothie (and maybe snatch a cup of joe before she had to listen to an hour-long lecture on the reason SHIELD must cooperate with the UN’s stupid rules at 7:30 in the morning). Smelling the pines and morning dew surrounding her, she smiled slightly. Maybe this term wouldn’t be so bad.
———————————————————————
Daniel Sousa was a man of honor. He was a man of great strength. Agent Daniel Sousa, previously Officer Daniel Sousa in the US Army, was a man who could fix his damn alarm clock on his own.
Just, not today. Or the day before.
So, Agent Daniel Sousa was now hurrying his way to class at The SHIELD Academy, books in hand and gym bag slung over his shoulders. Catching a glance at himself in the shiny glass doors of the bio-chem building, he groaned. He hadn’t even brushed his hair. And, looking down, he discovered he was wearing two different shoes.
This is the college experience everyone raves about, he thought bitterly. You see, Daniel Sousa had enlisted to the army straight out of high school, forgoing university. He climbed the ranks impressively quickly, earning his place as second-in-command and reconnaissance scout in the 28th Infantry Regiment. Unfortunately, after only four years in the army, Sousa was injured in the field, losing his leg and almost his life.
He came back to the US a war hero, and yet, he felt he wasn't finished. So, when a recruiter named Peggy Carter knocked on his door claiming to be from SHIELD (“Wow, you guys are still a thing?”), he leapt at the chance to continue fighti-...doing good. The Academy wasn’t exactly what he had bargained for, though. Trying to earn his B.A. and training to be an agent at the same time was grueling, but nothing he couldn’t deal with.
No, six different one hour and fifteen minute long classes plus mandatory physical therapy every day wasn’t going to break him. Learning how to be a communications agent and re-starting field training and catching up on general college education was no problem. Pressuring himself to be the best, to break the limits, to get past all his weaknesses was just another miniscule feather to add to the pile.
Unless his stupid alarm clock broke. Then yes, Agent Daniel Sousa would fail, buckle under the weight and be left on the floor to die.
Maybe he was being a bit dramatic.
One bunny-slippered right foot and a sneakered left leg carried him forward, propelled by a quickly chugged orange Celsius and his sheer will not to be late.
Daniel heard the late bell ring out, understanding that, on his first day of class, he would be counted late. It wasn’t like him, not at all. Especially when his first class was a refresher course on field tactics and covert strategy, something in which he was already aces.
He let out a sigh, slowing as he rounded the corner into the comms building. At the Academy, most buildings were grouped into categories: the cafeteria, gym and pool, and student resource building all to the south; the gun range, obstacle course, and specialized gym to the east; bio-chem labs, tech labs, and smaller rooms for lectures to the west; the computer labs and comms buildings right smack in the middle; and dorms to the north.
He swiped a key card with his driver’s license picture and student ID, unlocking the sliding doors that led to the computer labs. It was quicker to short cut through them than to walk around the building to the entrance closest to communications classrooms.
It wasn’t because he knew a certain broody brunette spent her mornings in the lab.
No, it wasn’t, because she wasn’t in her usual seat in the corner, typing away.
He slowly walked through the rows of computers, searching for a familiar black backpack. Nothing was there.
“Hey, Sousa,” an accented female voice called behind him. He whipped around to see who it was, feeling just a twinge of disappointment when Elena, or, as most people knew her, Yo-Yo, was leaning against the door frame. Yo-Yo, a fourth year operations trainee, who was very close with Daisy.
“Hey, Yo-Yo. Good morning,” he called, “I’m running a bit late.”
Elena checked her nails casually, “Way to state the obvious. You were running faster than I could trying to get here before the bell.”
Daniel rubbed the back of his neck and blushed. “Yeah…”
“Daisy’s running late today, too.”
Daniel looked around, pretending that hearing Daisy’s name didn’t make him want to smile. “Oh, of course. She’s usually here early.”
Elena nodded, chuckling a little at his response. She couldn’t tell if he was oblivious or just a bad liar. It was charming, really. “Right. See ya ‘round, Sousa!”
“See ya,” He replied. He thought he heard a quiet ‘Lovable nerds’ coming from the direction she left, but he couldn’t be sure.
And so, with a last look around the computer lab, Daniel set off to arrive late to May’s lecture.

Breaking Point (Platonic)
Tumblr media
Agents of Shield x reader maybe the reader was captured with Bobbi by ward at the end of season 2 and he torture her more because he knows if she’s hurt the whole team hurts cause she’s the youngest and they all want to protect her? She’s the one that gets shot then and not Bobbi? Love your writing!
Thank you so much! I hope this lives up to what you wanted!
Bobbi Morse wasn’t exactly in a great place, more physically than mentally. She was thrown into her cell, grunting as she hit the floor. She clawed at it with her hands as she tried to get up on her legs, to get to all fours.
Ward, however, just watched the whole time with a kind of shine in his eye as if he was enjoying her suffering. Bobbi was damn sure that part of him actually did. She was almost 100% sure of that.
What she wasn’t sure of, however, was what his endgame in total was. All he had done was asked for an apology from her for what she did to Kara (sure, she felt sorry. But she was honest when she said that she’d do it all over again,) but she didn’t give one. That led to her torture. To her pain to try and make her break.
“Look at you, always the fighter, huh? Ain’t that you, Mockingbird?” he asked in a mocking tone. She finally managed to turn and face him; trying to muster a glare with what remaining energy she had left.
“You know who’s not, though?” her face dropped, and he could definitely tell, “That’s right, y/n. The one, and the only. Y/f/n goddamn y/l/n. Let’s see if she’d give anything away. See if she’ll squeal where you didn’t. See if she’ll break and bring me back to SHIELD, back to Coulson. Back to –”
“You’re never getting your hands-on Skye, again.” She vowed, fiercely protective of her friend that had started to become a sister to her during their time together.
The whole team had been protective of you; you were a sister (to Fitz, Simmons, Skye, her, Hunter and Mack) or a daughter to others (Coulson, May, even her to an extent). You were the youngest, so their primitive instinct to protect made sense. Hell, even on his short time on the team, Ward had acted in an older brotherly fashion to you.
Obviously, now he was just another enemy on your list.
Bobbi had always had a maternal instinct to her; be that when getting Simmons out, or comforting Skye when she got her powers. She just seemed to be (like May) a natural at it, even if they wouldn’t believe you if you told them about it.
May might’ve been the mother of the team, but Bobbi was the older sister of them. Skye, Jemma and her all acted like that to you. You hadn’t had anyone else in your life before; being on the streets, but Coulson (like Skye) saw something in you and kept you on the team as you could fight.
Maybe that was why you were in this situation, now.
Granted, she didn’t know where you were in the building, she just knew you were in it. You were taken with her as well when not-May (Kara) took you both by surprise.
Despite your past, you had been a friendly type of person. You were still a little hostile and closed off (a bit more so than Skye) but you had slowly softened to them and that got you to where you were with the others now.
Now, she had a friend in danger, and she couldn’t exactly let that slide. Especially, not with this fucking psychopath.
“Don’t you dare touch her.” She managed to growl her threat; but Ward merely found it amusing.
“So protective. I wonder if which will shatter first; you or her. Which one will give up the location first?” He asked, probing on her fear for your life.
“You think either of us will? We don’t just betray and abandon our own, Ward.” Bobbi said, firmly.
“Well, no point asking you. Better go find the answer out for myself.” With that, he stood and turned around to leave.
“Wait! Ward, wait! Take me! Take me instead, please! She’s just a kid, Ward! WARD!" She yelled the first parts, but the last two where barbaric screaming; frantically trying to get the man to stop and see what he was about to do. See who he was about to hurt.
However, there was no evil cackle, there was no evil monologue about his reasons. There was only a door slam.
A door that held behind it a very worried and distraught Bobbi Morse. Who was trying her hardest to calm herself to focus on one thing; to get herself out and to save you.
You stirred, slowly opening your eyes to see yourself with your hands tied to a table. Well, this wasn’t good; either someone had a massive kink, or you were being held hostage; if you were being honest, you still weren’t quite sure which yet.
Then it hit you, Kara had captured you; so, you now had your answer.
“There she is.” A chilling, recognisable, voice said to you. You slowly looked up from your hands to see Grant Ward making his way towards you.
You tried to move away, but it did nothing. Still, he looked a little impressed by your attempt, though you then found that the look was one of humour at your attempt to get out.
“C’mon Y/N, I wouldn’t have tied your hands down if I thought you were going to try and run, would I? Don’t ruin my effort.” You tried to muster a glare, but you only gave him more of a terrified look.
“There it is there’s the scared kid I met way back when. Remember that, y/nn? When we were all together, that neat little family? Yeah, me too. Good times,” He said as he pulled a stool back and sat down opposite you, “Now, here we are. Your miles away from anyone you know. Although, I should tell you, Bobbi…. Bobbi didn’t make it.”
He had even softened his voice, making you believe it more. You looked up at the ceiling as tears pooled your vision. You didn’t even second guess his words, you believed them as if they were law; Ward even through in a look of genuine pity and slight sorrow to try and sell it all the more to you.
He was selling you poison, and you were just drinking it all in one go. He smirked a little, breaking you would be easier than he had previously thought. Maybe all your training had been for nothing. Maybe you were just that scared child Coulson had seen something in.
As to what, Ward didn’t know. You were a scrappy kid that had survived by the skin of her teeth. That was all, to him anyway.
Still, he was always open up to a surprise.
Bobbi flinched when she heard your scream, it was loud and raw. Seemed Ward had wasted no time in getting to it. She did not know what he was doing, she didn’t care what he was doing. The only thing she cared about was getting out and saving you from the bastard.
So far, that was mainly trying to make a lockpick after throwing herself into the door a few times only to no avail.
The walls barely had anything on them. So, a plan if all else failed was to just smash through the thing and try that way. However, if she did that, she would be dead and then soon after so would you.
She did not – couldn’t – have that outcome occur. You both needed to get back to your friends; you both needed to get back to your family.
“What are you doing?” Kara spat as she passed the cell, stopping to check in to make sure she wasn’t trying the very thing she was about to do. That being an escape.
“You’re just going to let him do that to her? She wasn’t even a part of SHIELD when you were taken.” Bobbi said, trying to appeal to some humane part of the woman. However, this time she got the cliché evil smirk instead.
“Oh, you thought I’d go get Ward and tell him to stop, didn’t you?” She pouted mockingly, “Oh, I’m sure your friend will break soon enough though, if that’s any consolation. But, you’re right, she didn’t have anything to do with me being taken. So, I’ll at least put in a good word to make it quick.” She seemed to mean her words.
“No, no, no, no, no, no.” Bobbi said in a panic as she tried to reach through the door to grab her and turn her back, but Kara grabbed her arm and pulled her to the door, slamming her into it and making the woman fall back with another groan.
This time, she was slower getting up, her ears rang as she did so.
Kara, however, waited until she had gotten up into a sitting position once again before she spoke, “Try that again, and the next thing you hear will be a gun.” She sneered before she walked off.
Bobbi, however, was fast with her action before. She had grabbed a key that Kara had put in a necklace and swung to the back of her neck, clever move to subvert how easy it was.
Good thing Bobbi had learned that tool of the trade too.
Ward punched you again, this time you had to blink to centre yourself once again. His “methods” of breaking you had been variations of hitting you so far.
You, however, just tried to take yourself somewhere better; somewhere nicer, somewhere that wasn’t this shithole. You tried to think about your family that you missed dearly; but that only made you think of Bobbi, your dead friend who had been killed as you hadn’t been fast enough.
A part of yourself told you that maybe you did deserve this fate. Maybe this was were it was all leading all along anyway, you had enemies out there who wanted you; maybe being killed by Ward would not be the worse way for your tale to end.
“Stay awake, now Y/N. Need you for your beauty shot for the others. Can’t have you bleeding out now, can we? Not when I can kill – a lot of stones with one…Ah, doesn’t work as well this time.” You heard parts of it as your ears rang, you were pretty sure your face was a mess at this point; you definitely knew that your nose was most likely broken.
He went to talk again, probably try and hit you again, when a loud noise broke his concentration.
“Kara?” He asked, worry genuinely coating his voice. Kara was thrown to the floor the next moment by a bloodied but pissed Bobbi Morse. Who, right now, was running on sister instincts, and mother hen mode.
Ward seemed to tell, as he pulled his pistol out. At first, Bobbi froze, thinking he’d shoot you and be done; but, just her luck, he shot at her instead. He missed, however, as you had a bit of fight left in you and tripped him over.
He really, really, wanted to shoot you. But he knew he couldn’t, that he needed you.
When he turned back, however, he saw that she was gone. While, part of him was angry at that fact, he smiled; now he had you were he wanted you. Now, she’d run back to SHIELD and bring them here; to him, to find you. Seemed it was starting to come together.
Bobbi was running, just running with pure adrenaline keeping her going. She rounded a corner, taking a moment to collect herself and catch her breath; finally letting herself process what had just happened.
Well, what had happened was that (in her eyes) she had failed. She was out, sure, but you weren’t. You were still in Ward’s hands; and now he was probably going to kill you. It would be on her, she couldn’t let you down like that, however. She couldn’t let the others down; not with everything seemingly falling apart at the seams as it had been before you both got captured; with Skye now in a new place and all this going on.
Your death would surely bring it all coming crashing down around them. Burn SHEILD to the ground and send them into a spiral they probably couldn’t come back from.
You were like the glue to the team; you could fight like most of the them, but you were the one they wanted to protect the most. Being the youngest tended to do that.
Now she wasn’t sure if you were going to walk out of there alive or be pulled out in a body bag.
Still, she ran to the nearest pay phone. Was it smart? No, but she needed to get back to base to rally what remained of the troops.
“Who is this?” Coulson asked over the phone.
“Coulson, thank god,” She breathed into the phone in a rush.
“Bobbi?” He asked, then heard some rustling on the line.
“Bob?” Hunter, she let out a sigh of relief at hearing the man’s voice once again. He too seemed panicked but let out his own sigh at her own.
“It’s me,” She said softly into the phone, having calmed down a little, “I need some help.” She admitted.
“Where’s Y/N? Is she with you?” Coulson asked over the line, forgetting the whole formality thing, not when a life was on the line.
“That’s what’s happened…” She said as she told them her location.
An old box was placed on the table, the bang waking you back up; Ward had placed two rusty nails in your feet to stop you from moving those next. He took two jack cables and attached them to the what you realised was a battery.
“There you are,” He said with some glee as he turned the battery on, “And there we go,” He turned to you, “Now, this is gonna hurt just a little.” His prewarning didn’t help with the pain as seemingly thousands of volts all went through you at once; like thousands of knives all stabbing you at once in different places.
“Babe, you promised you wouldn’t kill her. We need her, remember?” You vaguely heard Kara say, her words made Ward stop, and allowed you catch your breath and try to recover. Despite the fact that you were most likely to die here, you were glad that whoever had distracted Ward had got out.
“You’re right,” He conceded as he threw box in a rage, working through the last part of his adrenaline he gathered in that moment and turned back to your broken self.
“Hey, hey, hey!” He yelled as he clicked in front your face to get your attention, “Can’t have you leaving us just yet, kiddo. Not until SHIELD come for you that is.” He said as he moved into another room. As soon as he was gone, you had once again slipped away.
“Oh, thank god,” Hunter breathed out as he embraced the woman he truly did love, despite all their flaws and hardships, “I thought I lost you, Bob.” He admitted.
Despite herself, Bobbi let out a broken laugh, “Not yet, not yet.” She assured him as they pulled back in sync, just looking at each other for a moment.
It was Jemma who asked the question that weighed heavily on their minds, “What’s happened to Y/N?” She couldn’t help the quiver in her voice, Afterlife had gone to hell and she was sure she may have just lost one of her best friends to the fight going on over there.
Now she might lose another to Grant Ward of all people. Guilt ate up at her at the fact that she didn’t take another try at him when they went to get Lincoln and Mike Peterson.
“Ward has her,” Bobbi gulped as she told them, “I tried to get her out, I did.” She swore, hoping they’d believe her. It wasn’t like Bobbi Morse to get this emotional, this much of a wreck.
“Hey, Bob, we know you did everything you could do for her. You know Y/N, though, she’d do anything for us too. She made sure you got out so we could all get her out, together.” Right, yeah, Hunter was right.
Jemma seemed to know the frazzled state her friend was in, “I should give you a check-up, clean and patch you up.” To Bobbi it sounded like an offer.
“We need to focus on –” But, as it turned out, it wasn’t one.
“You’ll do no bloody good to her dead, would you? She did what she did, so you’d get out, like Hunter said. Now, let me help you so Hunter can get a team to find Y/N.” Jemma said in the best doctor voice she could manage, despite the circumstances they were currently in.
“What do you think he’ll do to her?” Jemma didn’t know how to answer Bobbi’s question as her own mind spun countless horrible images about that idea. However, soon after Bobbi spoke it, she wouldn’t have to wager a guess.
“Guys.” Coulson said as he approached them, serious face there but worry was there too, “Ward just sent us this.” He said as he held up a photo of you, more bloodied and bruised.
In fact, you looked dead.
 “Bob –”
“She can’t be.” Bobbi wasn’t sure who she was trying to bater with, really anyone at this point. Any deity, in case they did exist, really.
Jemma, desperately trying to keep it together, merely focused (after taking a breath to try and steady herself) on helping her friend mend her many small wounds.
“Why do more to her than to you?” Hunter asked.
Bobbi let out a shaky breath as she answered, “He wanted to see which one of us would break first. Figured that, because I didn’t, maybe Y/N would…or that, having to listen to him torture her would make me break.”
“Helped you break something,” Bobbi looked at him with a confused look, “Out, he helped you break out. Sorry love, trying to find the light in the dark and all that.”
“I need –” Jemma pushed her back down; despite her size, Jemma could be physically strong when she needed or wanted to be. This was one of those moments.
“You, sit down and stay there until I’m done,” Bobbi wasn’t about to argue, “Can you get a team and find her…please?” Hunter nodded at Jemma’s request.
“We don’t leave are own. That applied in the SAS, even Izzie, Idaho and others in that field had that code,” He waited until both women met his eyes, “And it damn well applies to hear too.” He said with conviction.
He approached Bobbi, the two holding each other’s arms, “Bring her home. And don’t die.” Was all Bobbi asked.
“You know me love, always one for danger.” Hunter said with a smirk.
Time to get the whole family back together. Coulson would do what he could with Skye, Hunter would handle getting you back.
He’d make damn sure of it that, one way or the other, you were coming home.
May had even tagged along, seemed her own mother bear instinct had been ticked off when she had found out what had happened to you. Everyone Hunter knew on it mainly wanted to just get you out. But Hunter had revenge on his mind too; He could tell that Melinda May had the same idea going in.
“Come on, Y/N, where are you?” He asked himself quietly, going down the many hallways as he continued to look for you. Sweat was almost bleeding off of him at this point; mainly because of his movements, carry a gun and all his other items were heavy after all; but it was also the stress. He could turn the very next corner only to find you a corpse nearly cold.
You woke up again, this time in a chair with your mouth gagged, you didn’t know how much longer you could hold out for without bleeding out, but you made damn sure to do your best to fight it. You weren’t someone to just give up; not went a slither of hope was still in the air that you could still get out of this.
You struggled against your restraints both on your hands and feet, nothing came of it. Fuck. You then tried to flip the chair, it moved a slight bit, but was then stopped by the chains that held it down.
You then noticed the gun. The sniper aimed at the door, you followed the wire and saw that the trigger was rigged to the door.
Your eyes widened, whoever your rescuer-to-be was going to be; they’d be dead within the instant they saw you.
You couldn’t let that happen.
Hunter was starting to get tired; he was almost done with all the doors and almost out of hope. But he kept going, he made a promise; one to Bobbi and the other to himself to not give up and give in. To bring you home, not matter how that looked.
He braced himself against a wall, counted to three, then kicked the door in.
You heard footsteps, then saw a faint shadow under the door. Now or never.
As he kicked the door, a BANG! Went off, and blood scattered around his face. He was stunned by both the sound and the blood. But even more stunned to see that it was you who had taken the bullet.
“Y/ -- Y/N!” He yelled out as he dropped his rifle and to his knees, untying the restrains on your feet, then your hands as he laid you down.
“Y/n, love, can you hear me?” He asked, not getting a response. He put his finger to your wrist, letting out a breath as he felt a very faint pulse.
It was faint, but there. You were still alive.
When you came to again, a bright light was in your way. You closed your eyes and tried to let out a groan, but it was croaky; the next moment, Jemma was above you, bright and relived smile on her face, “Y/N!” She said in her cheery voice, but you heard the slight crack.
She slowly got you up, readjusting your pillows for you as you got more comfortable in your new position.
She then, as gently as she could, hugged you, “I thought we lost you.” She confessed, you put a hand on her arm to remind her that you were still here.
She pulled back, sniffling a little, before letting out a teary laugh at the fact that you had survived, “Oh god, it’s so good to have you back!” She said, meaning every word.
The next few hours were a blur as each member came in to see you; Skye hugged you and apologised for not being there sooner, you just told your friend that it was ok and that you were happy she’d made it back too; Mack was a smile and one of his well known hugs; Coulson and May smiled and gave you a quick scan of their own (parents, right?).
Then it was Bobbi, she sat next to you and put a hand on your arm as if to ground herself. To assure herself that you, her friend, really was ok.
“I’m sorry I didn’t get you out.” She said, seemingly taking all the guilt.
“Bobbi, no one saw it coming. Besides,” You rested your hand on top of her own, “We made it out.”
She smiled, that was true. You had made it out in one piece. And she was right, you were a fighter; you never broke nor wavered.
And, she knew that if the tables were turned, you’d make the same moves she had.
As, in your line of work, you never left someone behind.

My WIPs
Updated 12/04/2021
The hearts system I had on the previous version of this just... wasn't working anymore as I added more and more ships, so I decided to redo it, and as easily understandably as I could: numerically. Pairings will be denoted in brackets at the end of each WIP title/working title. An asterisk * means it's a series.
With this new system, if you want to yell at me to write a WIP/are intrigued and want to hear what it's about/or just want to let me know how utterly insane I am, you can just drop it's number into my inbox with whatever you want to say and, bingo. (By the way, you are always welcome to do any of the listed activities, anytime. This is your open invitation 🥰💜)

Simple Melancholy pt. 2 ❣ Kelce ❣
for my full masterlist and the first part, click here! If you want to be added to the taglist for this fic or any of my other works, just let me know!
word count - 4.4k warnings - Brief mentions of past abuse, underage drinking, swearing synopsis - Jemma “Little J” Maybank finds herself a little over her head when she accidentally falls for a boy from Figure Eight. Between her overly protective brother and Kelce’s incredibly rude friends, neither of them are sure how they’re going to make it, but they’re determined to.  tagging - @diverrdown, @yourlocalauthor, @outrebanx, @starkeystyles, @simonsbluee, @parkerpetertingle,  a/n - I’m sorry it took me so long to update this, but I hope you enjoy this part! I love you all. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay the grooviest.
The water beat against Jemma, her surfboard flying over her head. She tried to push herself to the surface, but another wave crashed into her before she could. The force of the water pushed her into the hard sand, but the pain didn’t register. All Jemma could think about was getting a breath of air.
It wasn’t until the waves pushed her onto the shore that she could finally breathe. Coughing up water and gasping for air, Jemma crawled away from the water.
“That was a nasty wipeout, Little J!” John B said, laughing as he and the others ran over to her.
“Jemma, are you okay?” JJ asked. He dropped to the sand and put a hand on her back as he brushed wet and matted hair out of her face. Nodding, Jemma coughed again. “Come on.”
JJ ducked under her arm and helped her to her feet, moving her farther away from the water. John B, Kie, and Pope followed, dropping their surfboards into the sand. JJ lowered his sister back onto the ground as she continued to suck in deep breaths.
“That...was...sick,” she said, gasping with each word. And then she smiled up at her brother. He shook his head, wrapped his arm around her neck, and tugged her in for a side hug.
“It was pretty cool,” JJ said with a grin. “That’s going in the pogue hall of fails, Little J.”
“Anyone get a picture?” She teased. Kie and Pope, who were still standing with worried looks on their faces, glanced between each other. John B walked over to the cooler they had brought for surfing day and pulled out a beer bottle. When he came back, he handed it off to Jemma and JJ didn’t even protest.
Once she could breathe steadily enough, Jemma popped open the beer and took a short drink. John B sat down beside her with a beer of his own. He grinned at Jemma and JJ narrowed his eyes slowly.
“Don’t be looking at my sister like that,” JJ said. Jemma and John B looked at him with raised eyebrows.
“Get your head out of your ass, bubba,” John B said, taking another sip. JJ looked like he was about to beat his friend into the sand, but Jemma reached out and put a hand over her brother’s.
“Would you chill?” She asked him, a twinge of irritation in her voice. JJ huffed and dropped his hands into the sand. Jemma shook her head and took another swig of beer. She wouldn’t lie and say she would be mad if John B looked at her the way her brother always accused him of. She’d practically grown up with him, been there for him through some of his worst moments and he had been there for her in hers. Thinking about macking her brother’s best friend wasn’t the worst crime Jemma had ever committed. It was, however, the only crime that would probably get her killed.
In an attempt to shake the thoughts away, Jemma pushed herself onto her feet, teetering ever so slightly as she did so. She felt lightheaded, her vision going dark for a second.
“Where are you going?” Kie asked, putting a hand out to steady her friend.
“Gotta go get my board,” Jemma replied.
“I’ll come.” John B started to push himself upward, but not before JJ tackled him back to the sand.
“No way in hell!” His words seemed harsh, but there was a laugh in his voice. Jemma scoffed and rolled her eyes as the boys rolled around, kicking up sand.
“Dude!” Kie protested, trying to jump out of the way of their flailing legs.
“I’ll come with you,” Pope said but Jemma shook her head.
“I don’t need an escort,” she told him with a laugh.
“I’ll come anyway.”
Jemma shrugged and took another sip of beer. If she had felt more attached to her personal items, Jemma might have been upset that her board wasn’t currently on her person. But she had gotten used to disappointment. Losing it would just be losing another thing. From her experience, nothing stayed long, why would a surfboard?
But, losing it would be a potential reason for her dad to get angry. Jemma’s first reaction to her dad being angry with her for losing her board was fear, but the second was bitterness. Let him hate her, let him hit her, let him throw everything he had at her. She could take it.
“Are you even looking?” Pope asked as Jemma stared existentially out into the ocean.
“Huh?” She turned to look at him and he raised his eyebrows. “Right.”
Taking a long drink of beer, she narrowed her eyes and scanned the surface of the water. Waves still crashed against the shore, but there was no sign of her sunset orange board.
“JJ said you got a tutoring gig,” Pope said, shoving his hands into his pockets. Jemma felt herself grimace.
“Yup.” She took a drink.
“Didn’t go well?”
“No, it went perfectly fine. Guy’s a dickhead though.”
“I’m sorry, Little J.”
“Don’t sweat it.” Jemma smiled behind a sip. “At least I’m making money.”
Jemma wasn’t sure why she was so quick to call Kelce a dickhead. He really hadn’t been that terrible any of the times she had come over. After their first mini fight, it seemed like everything became less tense. She helped him write his essays and study for his tests and he didn’t complain nearly as much as JJ did. He tried to ask her questions about her personal life, but she avoided them at all costs. There was no reason for him to get to know her. They weren’t friends. They were supposed to hate each other.
But Jemma couldn’t help but feel like he tried so hard to get to know her because he wanted a real connection with someone that wasn’t just it in for his money. Then again, maybe she was just projecting. Truth be told, he was actually really sweet. And funny. And adorable. And-
“There!” Pope put one hand on her shoulder and pointed with his other.
“Where?”
“There, dumbass!”
Then she saw it, floating by itself just beyond the crashing waves. A smile spread across Jemma’s face. She shoved her beer bottle into Pope’s hands and started for the water.
“Little J, wait!” His attempts to hold her back failed, but his shouting got JJ’s attention.
Jemma dove underneath the first wave she came in contact with. All of her senses came to life. When she was away from the water, it always felt like there was a part of her that was dead, or at least not alive. Even when the ocean tried its hardest to kill her, she always found herself yearning to be right back in it to feel that last bit of life she so deeply desired.
Which was why, even though she had yet to completely catch her breath after her beat down, she didn’t hesitate to dive in headfirst.
“Jemma!” She heard JJ yell over the thundering waves, but she wouldn’t listen. Even after her feet could no longer touch the ground below, Jemma didn’t slow. She maneuvered through the waves until she reached her board.
“Reunited,” she whispered, breathless, a gleeful smile on her face. Before she clambered on top of it, she pressed a kiss against the deck. She rode the waves back to shore, her smile never once fading. But JJ was fired up all over again which was almost enough to put her back in a sour mood as she ran over with the surfboard under her arm.
“You almost died and you just run back into the water like a maniac?” He asked. Jemma shrugged.
“Had to get my board.”
“I could have gotten it for you.”
“I don’t need you to do everything for me. I’m not a baby, J.”
“I know you’re not, but-”
“But nothing.” Jemma tried to keep her smile. “Can I have my beer back?”
Pope, not wanting to get between Jemma and JJ, handed the beer back to her before running back to stand next to Kie. She was waiting patiently to deescalate any situation that arose, John B laughing silently to himself to the side. Not breaking eye contact with her brother, Jemma took a long drink of her beer. He narrowed his eyes but said nothing. The wind blew and a sudden, sharp pain made Jemma gasp.
Looking down, she saw a sand rash marred the skin around her hip bone. JJ’s eyes followed hers and he rolled his eyes.
“That’s what you get for being a dumbass,” he said, but then he stepped forward and took the beer can from her. “We should get this cleaned out.”
“It’s a burn, not a bullet hole,” Jemma said with a roll of her eyes.
“It looks pretty bad, Little J,” John B said, walking over to her and JJ. She looked up at met his concerned look. “We should get you home
“Okay,” she said, her voice cracking.
“Okay,” JJ mocked her voice. Jemma slapped her hand against his shoulder. “Ow! What the hell!”
“You’re a douche,” Jemma snapped. JJ sneered.
“Well, you’re stuck with me.”
“I’ll help you to the car,” John B interrupted.
“No!” Jemma and JJ both shouted at the same time.
“I can walk perfectly fine,” Jemma tried to say in a calmer voice, offering John B an apologetic smile.
“You’re not touching my sister with a ten foot pole,” JJ warned, pointing a finger at his best friend.
“Would you knock it off?” Jemma shoved her brother back. JJ was about to retaliate when Pope and Kie stepped in.
“Alright, you two,” Kie said, putting her hands on Jemma’s shoulders and pulling her backward. It wasn’t a rare occurrence for Jemma and JJ to fight, in fact, it happened almost every time they hung out with the Pogues. It was just life with the Maybank twins.
By the time John B’s van rattled to a stop at the Chateau, the argument between Jemma and JJ was completely forgotten. They were chatting back and forth about whatever dumb movie they had stolen from the abandoned Blockbuster even as the entire group clambered out of the car.
“I gotta go get this cleaned up,” Jemma said, covering her sand rash to keep the wind off of it. She wasn’t a pussy, but sand rashes hurt like a bitch.
“You got to tutor today?” JJ asked as she headed off toward the house.
“Yup. In about an hour.”
“Your nails aren’t done.”
Jemma felt herself smile. Ever since their stupid argument about nail polish, JJ had knicked a few bottles from the Kook cougars he worked for to give to her. It was an olive branch gesture, one that made Jemma smile just thinking about.
“Don’t have time for it today,” she told him. JJ shrugged his shoulders, trying to seem like he didn’t care. “But I’ll paint them tonight when I get back, yeah? That blue color was really nice.”
He perked his head up and a hint of a smile crossed his face. The others weren’t entirely sure what was going on, but they knew it to be a Maybank Moment. These moments usually followed a fight, so they weren’t really surprised.
Trotting up the porch steps and into the house, Jemma couldn’t help her smile. There was a small part of her that was giddy. Even though it was only her fifth time going over to Kelce’s to help him study, she found herself looking forward to it. Maybe it was because she could almost convince herself that she was living like Kook for three hours. Maybe it was because when Kelce looked at her, he didn’t see the damaged goods from the cut that she saw in the mirror.
After cleaning her sand rash, Jemma threw on a new outfit, something a little nicer than before that covered up the beating her body took from the ocean. Saying a quick goodbye to her friends, she took off toward Figure Eight.
She wasn’t even the least bit nervous knocking on Kelce’s door that night. It was later than she usually went over, but he had texted her the day before asking to change the times a bit. Jemma was more than happy to comply. It just meant that she could spend the rest of the day with her friends.
When he opened the front door, he was smiling. God, she loved his smile.
“Hi,” he said, leaning his hand against the door. Jemma couldn’t help the stupid grin on her face.
“Hi.”
He just watched her for a moment as she tapped her fingers against the back of her hand. Then he suddenly cleared his throat and opened the door even more.
“Come in.”
Jemma stepped inside, immediately kicking off her shoes and setting her bag on the counter.
“So, what are we studying to-”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
A shout from another room in the house startled Jemma. She jumped, turning her concerned gaze toward Kelce, who grimaced.
“A few of the boys are over,” he explained slowly, tucking his hands into his pockets. Jemma raised her eyebrows as her pulse started to slow back down to normal.
“Is this why you pushed the time back?”
Kelce stepped toward her in a hurried attempt to cover for himself.
“You’ve been helping me out so much I just wanted to give you a break in return for all your help,” he said. Jemma almost laughed.
“Kelce, your parents literally pay me to be here. I don’t need you to do anything else for me,” she told him. For a brief second, there was almost something like hurt behind his eyes, as if wondering whether or not she would still come if the money stopped flowing into her bank account.
“I just want you to meet my friends.”
“I know your friends. We don’t get along.”
“It’s just a few guys. They’ll be cool, I swear!”
Jemma eyed him carefully, but she heard the desperation behind his words. She wasn’t sure what came over her that made her finally nod her head with a sigh. It didn’t matter which of Kelce’s friends were over, there was no way this was going to end well.
He gestured toward the living room and Jemma let him lead her there.
“Fuck you!” the same voice from before screamed. Jemma saw the TV and the game that was on before she saw who was watching. Clearly, the game was not going in their favor. But then she saw Rafe Cameron and Topper Thornton sitting on Kelce’s couch. Fear immediately rose in her stomach at the sight of them, her eyes going wide.
“Shit, shit, shit!” She seethed, moving out of the doorway and behind a wall. With a scowl on his face, Kelce followed after her.
“Jemma, what-”
“You didn’t say your friends were Topper and Rafe,” she whispered, her chest heaving.
“I said a few guys.” Jemma shut her eyes and leaned her head back against the wall. “What’s going on?”
Jemma tried to steady her breathing before answering. She popped one eye open only to see Kelce watching her with a worried look on his face. She let out a deep sigh and pulled him farther away from the living room.
“You have to swear to never repeat to anyone what I’m about to tell you,” she said, her voice low. Kelce nodded his head.
“What happens in the house stays in the house,” he said, repeating one of Jemma’s rules. Jemma swallowed a hard lump in her throat, cringing as she tried to build up the courage to say what she was about to say.
“Okay.” She put her shaking hands up and took a deep breath in through her nose. “Don’t be mad at me.”
“Why would I be mad?”
“Because I’m about to tell you something that might ruin your perception of me.”
“Nothing could do that.”
Jemma ignored the way her heart spiked. She heaved out a sigh, tapping her head against the wall again. There was no easy way to say what she was about to say.
“JJ and I got into an argument once a few months back. A bad one,” she started, peering back at the entrance to the living room as if waiting for someone to walk right through. “He wouldn’t let me run off with this touron I met at a party. I was angry as hell and horny as hell and drunk as hell, so I did something I knew would royally piss him off.”
Kelce scowled, still not really understanding. Jemma was hoping that she could get him to understand without spelling it out completely, but it didn’t appear to be working.
“I found the one guy I knew would make my brother the angriest and I…” She trialed off, gesturing with her hand until Kelce got the picture. She watched him press his lips into a fine line. “Not my proudest moment, but-”
“Who was the guy?” Kelce asked, his voice as quiet as hers was. Jemma swore quietly to herself. He was really going to make her say it, wasn’t he? She bounced a few times before blurting the name out as quickly as she could.
“Rafe.”
“Oh, my god, Jemma!”
“Shh!” She hissed desperately, pressing her hand to Kelce’s mouth and turning to make sure no one heard. “I told you not to be mad!”
Kelce swatted her hand off of his mouth.
“I’m not mad...I’m just….” Kelce put a hand on his head before dropping it back to his side. Jemma grimaced at the expression on his face. “You’re a fucking minor, Jemma. And he’s-”
“I know!” Jemma wrapped her arms around her stomach. “It was a mistake.”
“A one time mistake?”
Jemma set her jaw, starting to bounce again. She got bouncy when she was nervous.
“A multiple time mistake.”
“Oh, god.”
“So, now you know why I can’t go in there, right?” She was begging him to understand, to just let her walk away. She hadn’t seen, let alone spoken to, Rafe since their last hook up a month or so ago. She wasn’t really intended on tonight being that night. Kelce turned away from her, his hands on his hips. He was reacting almost as badly as she expected JJ too. She wasn’t sure why he was so upset by it. At least, she told herself she didn’t.
“I thought you hated him,” Kelce said, turning back to look at her. Jemma chewed on her lip, holding her arms tighter.
“I hate his guts, but….” She trailed off, letting out an embarrassed breath. Her words grew quieter. “I also have a bad habit of letting him rearrange my guts.”
Kelce scoffed and Jemma grimaced. That was the worst possible way she could have said it. It seemed like every time she opened her mouth, she was just making things worse. If only she could just dig a hole and bury herself deep inside. She would rather be literally anywhere other than where she was now.
“It’s not like I actually like him, or anything.” She was still trying to defend her actions for whatever reason. She just couldn’t bear to have Kelce thinking that she was easy like everyone else did. The thought forced tears into her eyes. “It was just-”
Kelce lifted his hand and Jemma swallowed her words. His eyes were closed, pinched shut. She waited for him to explode, to scream at her, call her a whore, maybe even shove her around. It was what she expected from men. She messed up and they came for her, tooth and nail.
But Kelce never even curled his hands into fists. He waited to talk until his breathing was steady, until the confusion and anger were gone from his face. Then he opened his eyes slowly to look at her.
Jemma hadn’t realized how tense she was, waiting for an attack, until Kelce lifted his hand to rest on her shoulder and she flinched. He pulled his hand back, a concerned look on his face as he leaned away from her.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, his eyebrows pinching together.
“I...I should go.” Jemma took a few steps to the side before starting for the front door.
“Jem...wait.” Kelce caught her by the wrist, his grip gentle. Still, she spun around ready for the attack that she still expected to come. Her eyes were wide, her breathing heavy. “You wanna get out of here? Go somewhere quieter?”
Jemma’s body relaxed out of surprise and she scowled.
“What?”
“I’m not mad at you, Jemma. You’re entitled to live your own life. I was just shocked is all.”
Jemma kept her scowl for a few more moments even as he dropped his hand from her wrist. She was trying to figure out what his angle was. There had to be a reason he was doing this, saying the things he was saying. There had to be a reason he was talking so softly, so gently.
Her dad used to do it a lot when she was younger. Pretend he wasn’t mad just so he could explode later. Get her crying in his arms before throwing her to the floor. Make her think she was safe and then….
She couldn’t help but wonder if Kelce was doing the same thing now. It took her a few pondering moments to decide that he wasn’t.
Stepping out of her defensive stance, she kept a small scowl on her face, just in case.
“Sure.”
At her acceptance of his offer, Kelce smiled. It wasn’t the same, wide smile as before, but he was happy to hear her response. He walked her back to the front door, sending one last look back toward his friends.
“Will they miss you?” Jemma asked as she stepped into Kelce’s car, her legs still shaking ever so slightly. Kelce shrugged and shut her door for her.
“Not likely.”
Jemma rolled down the window, hoping that the cool evening air would be enough to calm her nerves.
“So,” Kelce said, one hand resting lazily on the wheel and his other hanging out his open window. “Rafe.”
Jemma scoffed and rolled her eyes, a small, cringing smile on her lips.
“I ended it,” she said, refusing to look at him as she watched the rich people houses dash by in a blur. “It felt wrong, lying to my brother all the time.”
“I thought you did it to piss him off.”
“Yeah, I did, but I didn’t want to get Rafe murdered because I was being petty.”
To Jemma’s surprise, Kelce actually laughed. It was a nice sound, like the waves against the shore. No, something softer than that but just as powerful.
“And,” Jemma continued, though she didn’t know why. “It made me feel like...like the things people said about me were all true.”
“What things?”
It was Jemma’s turn to laugh, but hers was bitter, accompanied by a roll of her eyes.
“You know.” Kelce glanced over at her and gave his head a little shake. “That I’m easy. That I’ve got daddy issues and that means I’ll let anyone in my pants. That my dad….” She paused. “Whore, slut, homewrecker, the whole nine yards. You’re telling me that you’ve never heard anyone say that about me?”
Kelce shrugged his shoulders, but Jemma knew he was lying. She let out a heavy breath.
“Fine,” Kelce said. “I’ve heard it all. But I never believed it.”
Jemma raised her eyebrows, leaning back against her seat and looking at him as she propped a foot up onto the dashboard.
“Really?”
“Yeah.” Kelce fixed his eyes on the road. “Most decent guys don’t believe it when someone says stuff like that about a girl.”
“Most decent guys wouldn’t touch me with a ten foot pole.”
Jemma’s mind went back to the beach, to John B’s offer to help her, to JJ telling him off by saying the same thing. She scrunched up her nose and looked down at her hands. Never before had any of these words ever left her mouth before, to anyone, not even her closest friends, her family. How was it that Kelce had managed to pry it out of her after only knowing her for a few weeks?
“I haven’t seen my parents in two months,” Kelce said suddenly. He didn’t tear his gaze from the road even as Jemma looked up at him. “They’ve been contacting you from somewhere in Europe.”
“Kelce, you don’t have to-”
“No, you bore your soul to me. I just want you to know that you can trust me with these things.” He looked over at her finally. “So, I’m trusting you. My parents pay so little attention to me, the only reason they know that my grades were as low as they were was because I told them.”
Jemma felt her jaw tense, her throat starting to swell.
“I’m sorry.”
Comforting people wasn’t her strong suit.
“It’s been this way all my life.” He shrugged. “Do you trust me yet?”
Jemma felt a smile pull at the edges of her lips, but she tried to hold it back.
“We’re getting there.”
“Friends?”
Jemma narrowed her eyes, pulling at her lip with her teeth as she mulled the idea over.
“Friends have nicknames for each other,” she said finally, crossing her arms. “I’ll call you Kellie.”
Kelce laughed.
“No way in hell!”
“I thought you wanted to be friends.”
“I do!” Jemma cocked an eyebrow. “Fine. You can call me Kellie. As long as I can call you Jem.”
Jemma felt her heart freeze in her chest. The only person who ever called her Jem was her mom. Jemma swore to never let anyone else call her that in case her mom ever came back and laid claim on the name once again. But her mom was gone. She was gone and she wasn’t coming back. Jemma had to realize it eventually.
“Deal.” Jemma finally let herself smile. “So, Kellie, where are you taking me?”
He gave her a mischievous grin before settling his gaze back on the road.
“I guess you’re just going to have to wait and see, Jem.”
“It better be good.”
“Oh, trust me, I’m sure you’ll love it.”
Jemma’s smile grew wider.

For fic prompts: Alya playing in leaves for the first time after Fitz just raked them.
I DID IT!   FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NEARLY A YEAR I WROTE A FIC!!!!  I hope you like it!  Click on the Link for the full story!
Tumblr media
Falling for Autumn
Despite the chill of the early Autumn air Fitz had to wipe a bit of sweat from his brow and paused to admire his work.   A massive pile of warm toned leaves from the trees that surrounded their beloved garden had amassed before him.
From the open window of their kitchen he could hear Ayla excitedly explaining to Jemma how to make her Nana’s special Butterscotch Cookies.   His mother had given Ayla the recipe during her last visit and she’d been begging to make them ever since.  The Smell of a batch of Chocolate chip already in the oven was wafting out and made his stomach growl.
Fitz couldn’t believe how different their lives were right now.  This time even 6 Months ago they had been preparing to say goodbye to the home they had made on the Zephyr and embark on their final mission.  And even though it had been moments for Fitz, they had been moments of agony and fear.  Fear for his precious family biting at every fiber of his being until he was pulled to the other timeline.
After the Chronicoms had been defeated they had remained at the Lighthouse just long enough to put their final affairs with Shield in order and even more painfully clean out Deke’s bunk.   Losing their Grandson had never been part of the plan.   They had hoped he would leave with them with both he and Jemma eager to get to know him more and give him the family that had been taken from him so long ago.
He knew Deke was okay and if all the late hours in the lab paid off they would be able to bring him back one day, but it didn’t make them miss him any less.   Fitz had been so proud listening to Jemma regal Ayla with stories of their time travel and Deke’s role in the team.  The little girls eyes wide hearing how he’d stood up to Uncle Daniel, Nathaniel, and SIBYL to protect her mother.  He was even more grateful that his Grandson had been there for Jemma when he couldn’t.   Ayla eager to meet her Uncle who happened to be an inventor, rock star, and Agent...who would no doubt spoil her more than all her other Aunts and Uncles combined.
Deke had also managed to surprise them one last time.  As they cleaned out his bunk and carefully packed things away to store for his return they’d found a wrapped box that said To:  Nana & Bobo, I thought a castle was a bit too much but hope this will still work.

Fitzsimmons Family Headcanons in case canon fails me
And before they destroy them. Buckle up.
(I wrote this in less than an hour and english is not my first language, sooo sorry for any mistakes)
Tumblr media
Edit: I re-posted it because it wasn’t showing up in the tags. sorry.
Enjoy! (Gift credit: X)
They finally decide to retire to their cottage.
Daisy and May lived with them for a while but at different times. Daisy around the time their first kid was born and May when the youngest was a kid already.
May and Daisy totally live together in the USA.
Fitzsimmons started a biomedical company, they make prostetics and medical supplies. They fund small researchers and become relatively known in the medical field (under aliases of course). They run their company from their home as much as they can.
Deke got bored of his company, so he eventually fused it with FS’s, he has enough money to travel around the world and be whatever he wants. Once was a TV chef, and he got bored and became a travel blogger, then launched a clothing line so it goes…
Tried to convince the team to turn their story into a broadway musical. They all said no. He brings it up everytime they are all together (you never know)
Fitzsimmons have three kids, they were all planned ;) of course
Daisy teases Fitz about how the three of them look like Jemma. “You are adopted”. the son is the only one who kinda looks like him. Fitz doesn’ t mind.
After the kids go their own ways they leave together again.
Have their own quinjet in case of emergencies, they say. Let’s be honest after years of flying with SHIELD, commercial flights lost their charm.
Look retired Fitzsimmons would be that kind of couple who travels the world together (properly this time), they say the quinjet is to visit their friends and Family around the world but would randomly send pictures of them in front of a famous landmark.
Mackenzie Skye Fitzsimmons (Daisy calls her Kye) (Born around 2021) (Quarantine baby) or (Timetravel baby)
They never asked Deke about their daughter’s name in the original timeline, but once they told him, judging by his reaction they knew it was this. (but in the lighthouse timeline her nickname was Kenzie)
Fitz was really adamant on this name, Jemma thought it was cute and a great way to honor their best friends, but years later he told the kid:
“you were named after two of the bravest persons I’ve ever met”.
Jemma just stared into the space as it dawned on her that her husband was really an idiot.
He winked at her and she forgave him. Eventually.
When she was a toddler Fitzsimmons moved back to the city and left their cottage, they wanted their daughter to have the best education and also didn’t want to wake her up early because the closest school was still an hour away.
Around that time Daisy found Bobbi, they met up, and Bobbi introduced her to her baby son Owen.
“oh my god. I need to call Fitzsimmons”
“what”
“shhhh. wait, it’s connecting... Hey guys! Look who is here! Bobbi and her baby Owen Shaw”
Fitz spits his tea all over his phone. Bobbi doesn’t know what’s going on, and they eventually explain it to her, well, after Daisy stops laughing and Fitz stops coughing.
Bobbi and Hunter had changed names and moved to England. After learning that Fitzsimmons live nearby, they make plans to see each other as much as they can. Look this is my headcanon AU so Fitzsimmons offer them positions in their company, Bobbi in the lab and Hunter in a made up security position that doesn’t fit his nametag.
Some weekends Fitz and Hunter take the babies to the park together, while Jemma and Bobbi work or hang out together. One day kye and Owen were playing and Owen proudly declared he was going to be an astronaut. Fitz was like “you and your son are the bane of my existence”.
The kids become best friends. Duh
BUT this is Bobbi and Hunter we are talking about, they’re nomads so they eventually move out around Europe and America, when the kid started high school they agreed to stay in one place.
Anyways,
Tumblr media
Amazing kid, took a while for her parents to figure out the whole parenting thing but she was so great, as long as things went her way.
Fitz can’t say no to her. A dog? We’ll manage. Ice cream for breakfast? c’mon you know how convincing she can be.
She is a really calm kid, well behaved. Responsible older sister, mom friend, but messy af. “look mom, I have a system and I know where everything is”.
Nicest kid you’ll ever meet, but if you mess with her siblings be careful, you never know if you will find trash in your backpack.
Tumblr media
She is an MD. Eventually, her parents moved back to the countryside but she stayed in the city with her sister to finish her education.
Makes friends everywhere she goes.
She and Owen started dating in their teens but were on and off several times, they even briefly dated other people because one of them would get scared of things becoming too serious (even more when they learned that Uncle Deke was genetically their son).
In their late twenties they decided to get married as a compromise to stay together and work things out, after all, some things are inevitable.
They had two kids: Daniel Shaw (Deke, but They wanted him to be his own person so they changed the name), Gabrielle Shaw (Born as Oliver Shaw)
Owen worked for a while for SWORD. Eventually decide to move to Germany to work as researchers.
Margaret Abigail Fitzsimmons (Maggie) (Born 2025)
Tumblr media
The odd one. Grew up to be a successful artist. Really independent as a child, could play hours by herself or caually chill around her parents or her brother’s crib.
Despite being the only one in her family who isn’t into science, she loves doing experiments all the time, in the name of aesthetic. One time turned the dog blue. There’s a fire extinguisher in the living room just because of her. Banned from her parents’ lab “Pretty colors can go boom”. Aparently.
After being constantly told she is diferent from the rest of her family, she feels happy when someone tells her she looks like her mom. She scoffs but she doesn’t really mind.
Tumblr media
Acts though but is a softie, vegan, activist, animal lover. Loves to tease everyone, prankster, makes fun of her mom but it’s the first person she thinks of when something troubles her. Late night calls are not unheard of.
Can’t commit to a single hobby. Photography, cooking, volunteer work... name something, and she has probably already tried it.
Really close to Deke, sometimes travels with him. They are kindred spirits. Feel like only them understand the need to explore and try new things.
She grew up to resent shield. Look she loves what her parents and their friends did, but hates how it affected them. Forgive and forget? in this economy??
Lives in Paris by herself but somehow always manages to get everyone to come to her art exhibits. You won’t be able to stop her once she sets her mind to something. Stubborn as her dad.
Doesn’t want kids, maybe one day if she feels ready she will adopt but she is happy as an aunt.
Matthew Phillip Fitzsimmons (Matthew) (Born 2030)
Tumblr media
Ray of sunshine, Momma’s boy. He loves it when his parents take him to their lab. Ever since he could walk he is always following his sisters around, if they are up to something he is the first one to know. They love to tease him, but he has enough blackmail material to get them to shut up. He would never use it tho.
Computer genius. He has his own video game company. Launched his first video game at 16. Fitz is mildly offended he sees the Framework code as “old stuff”.
He is a sweetheart, adores his parents and calls them every single day. He met his wife in college and has been happy ever since. It was fast and passionate, they got married within a year and a few years later they had a baby.
Truly an example of living fast.
Melissa Fitzsimmons (his daughter) a sweetheart, may is her godmother. (The babies’ baby’s baby, i cry). The cousins are thick as thieves.
May loves the kid, “age is making you softer”, Daisy tells her and laughs, May’s glare while holding a baby is too much for her.
Emma Johnson (born 2029) (the honorary fourth kid)
Tumblr media
Daisy’s daughter. Jemma cried when she told her the baby’s name. She wanted May and Jemma in the delivering room with her.
I can see Daisy being a badass single mother but I also see her finding love, I haven’t made up my mind but I think she will be loved either way.
Only child, so loves to hang out with the FS kids.
She and Matthew are best friends since they were little, even having video calls when they couldn’t see each other in person.
Fitz and Daisy had a bet on whether they would get together, but it was called off when it became apparent Emma wasn’t interested in men altogether. She was the first woman in his wedding.
The “Quake” legacy was too much for her so she decided to focus in something different. Currently works as an architect and on her spare time works as a freelance illustrator.
All I can imagine is a scene where the are all together in a field (probably the same one where they buried Coulson and Loop!Fitz) May, Fitzsimmons and Daisy. They try to meet up there at least once a year to chat and reminisce about old times, sometimes with Deke, Mack and Elena (and their twin boys) or just them.
Their kids are playing while their parents watch, but May’s watching them, with their backs to her they almost look like the kids she met in the bus all those years ago. Coulson would’ve been so proud, this is the future we were fighting for all along, she thinks.
“You did good”.
Daisy turns around with a soft smile on her face and says “yes, we did.”
The end

Jemma, meeting someone who isn’t good at taking care of themselves or a young person in trouble or someone with parent-issues: I’m your mother now even though I can take care of myself even less
Jemma, meeting someone older who has some vague caring instincts and she admires even just a little: ...  pls be my parent and be proud of me
third mode, Jemma meeting someone she feels a sibling affection for and immediately being a mix of: mom-friend when they are hurting and ‘no, officer, I’ve never seen this person in my life but actually I think they are guilty of whatever you say so take them away lol ’

Agents of Shield Rewatch 5x14 The Devil Complex
Yeah, this and the season finale are why I have never rewatched this season soooo...
Oh cool Will’s space suit this is all fine and normal
Hahaha I find it hilarious that Fitz gets super stressed out and wants British junk food
No Chill Jemma Simmons is back and this time she’s married and wants her honeymoon
Elena is a very determined woman and I’m not surprised
Poor Deke is really distracted by watching his grandparents which makes total sense
“I’ve become very invested in them as a couple” Hahahaha Deke
Nooooooooooo why is this happening??
Iain does look really good though so I’m just going to focus on that
Ugh this general is so smug
I hate seeing Fitz like this
I also hate seeing this with Fitz and Daisy knowing what is going to happen
Which I also hate
Iain is such an amazing actor though so I’m also going to focus on that
But I think it’s also part of the problem and part of how we got here
Haha Melinda knows it’s Creel really quickly
Also Creel is a bomb? Cool cool
Aww great this Russian dude?
IAIN IS SO GOOD WHY HAS HE NOT WON AWARDS??
Jemma and Fitz are both so scared right now :(
Hale is putting a lot of blame on Fitz that he doesn’t deserve for the Russian robots
“We’re not airing our dirty laundry in front of the bad guys right now” Oh Phil
“He’s all yours” May is maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
Nope I hate all of this
Hale has the Russian’s head jar now? How random.
Oh boy Elena now believes she’s invincible because she’s seen her armless self in the future
I’m sure only good things will come of that
Jemma has realized exactly what’s going on now and I really hate all of this
I can’t imagine how scared Daisy is right now :(
Also seeing Jemma run in there and see only one Fitz...
Ok, I guess now’s as good a time as any for my rant
This episode makes me angry.
Actually no, let’s go further back. I think the bad choices started in the Framework. Part of the problem is an embarrassment of riches as it were. Iain and Lil are just incredible together, and I’m sure it was fun to think of new ways to stretch them. And it was fun to watch...for a bit. Where I think the messed up in the Framework was not having Fitz/Leopold be slightly more conflicted. He could have had a couple moments of recognition or just knowing that this isn’t him or that Jemma was his one true anchor to the world. But they chose not to for whatever reason. I guess for more Fitz angst.
Which brings us to this episode. The thing is, the premise of Fitz dealing with his darker side is interesting. I was initially really excited for this episode. But the way they ended this? Nope.
Personally, I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t have had the same general premise but allowed Fitz, the real Fitz, take over and just let his goodness and kindness and love for Daisy persuade her to want to have her powers back for the good of everyone. Because there’s no doubt in my mind that she would have agreed to it knowing that it could help people. That’s just who she is. And then we could have preserved one of the most beautiful friendships on this show. Instead they ruin everything they’ve built with Fitz and Daisy, cause unnecessary drama, and then seemingly never deal with it again.
This wouldn’t have even had to change much for the rest of the season because Fitz still could have just chosen to lock himself away because he’s hearing the doctor and doesn’t want to hurt anyone etc.
And like I know the current Fitz isn’t this Fitz, but how does that change anything for Daisy? Did she just deal with it on her own during the year they looked for him? Did Piper become a licensed therapist and help Daisy deal with her trauma and that allowed her forgive current Fitz?
Yes I know we’ll never get answers to this. Sigh.
Daisy says she’ll never forgive him and I don’t blame her
But also it makes me sadder than anything else on this show
I love Jemma so much, and I’m so sorry she’s having to deal with all this
I’m looking at you writers
Everyone is just so broken
I love, love this Deke. He’s so sweet and kind and not trying to be too much and it’s easy to see how he could have descended from Jemma and Fitz here.
Let’s give it up for Jeff Ward here absolutely killing this scene
Omg Jemma puking is so real though
Of course Hale is working for Hydra and/or aliens blah
I just, this episode is a lot for me. I’ve basically dealt with it by pretending it never happened, and I can see why it ruined things for people. These characters that I’ve known and loved for so many episodes all deserved better. I’m sure someone out there will disagree with me, but I’m fine with that.
The only score I’m giving this episode is a 100000000/10 on the Sadness scale. That’s all I got.
For this episode I’m going with some dance music, so at least if this episode depresses you, you can have a good time afterward. But it’s still kind of thematic. So here’s “Devil Inside” by Utada.

What’s a headcanon that you like to include in your fics?
Other than the usual Jemma never has any chill and Fitz gets flustered anytime anyone mentions sex (although that’s pretty canon), all the headcanons I can think about are about Fitz.  All the pet, whether they’re cats, dogs or else, love Fitz and easily come to him. Which is usually taken as a proof (mostly by Jemma) that he’s good, trustworthy person.  Also, although he doesn’t have the healthiest eating habits, Fitz is an excellent cook. Having grown up with a single mother who probably had to work a lot to make ends meet, he had to learn to do a lot of things on his own at a young age, including cooking and a lot of other useful things to know how to do around the house.

The Best Medecine
word count: 2.7k
warnings: fluffflufffluff
requested? no i just needed to see daisy take care of daniel
ship: dousy/daniel sousa x daisy johnson
PART 2!! idr have an authors note today, just enjoy :)
(gif not mine)
Tumblr media
Daniel felt like crap.
He had caught Daisy’s cold, and the effects were hitting him harder than a ton of bricks.
Daisy had recovered fairly quickly after he smoothly convinced her to take the proper medicine and rest. They had a great few days where both of them felt alive and normal, not like zombie versions of themselves. Going grocery shopping (avoiding the soup aisle, they already had a freezer full), taking a day trip to hike the Eaton Canyon trail and picnic, testing out a new prosthetic Fitz designed, and pulling an all-nighter to binge-watch Grey’s Anatomy completed the week wonderfully.
Things were going great! Almost too great. Things never go this great in their universe. Which is why neither of them were surprised when Daniel shot up in bed at 4am sneezing, waking Daisy and, she joked, the rest of the street. He tried to go back to sleep, only to wake up with a loud achoo! ten minutes later. Daniel rubbed his forehead, the pressure centered between his eyebrows insisting that he was not going to get any sort of true rest that day.
He told a sleepy Daisy that he felt fine, that he just needed a hot bath. It was probably just the spring allergies, right? Nothing to worry about, Daniel told himself as he swung his leg over the side of the bed, grabbing his crutches and lumbering to the bathroom. He splashed his face with warm then cold water before quickly checking that Daisy was asleep again, her silhouette rising with deep breaths, outlined in diffused blue light from the stars on the ceiling. Maybe he could shake this before it got too bad? Surely, it wouldn’t disrupt his routine too much?
Daniel quietly crutched to the soft couch, grabbing a blanket from the pile on the armchair. The flannel of the blankets and the comfortable give of the couch lulled Daniel into a restless sleep.
Early morning turned to late morning turned to afternoon, Daniel only waking up from tossing and turning when Daisy shook him and offered a sinus pill, which he gulped down with an entire cup of cool water. Three ice cubes shaped like half moons knocked into each other as he tipped the cup back, letting the smooth liquid drown out the scratchiness in his throat.
A glance at the clock alarmed him, mentally calculating how long he slept. He noticed the second quilt that had been laid on top of him, the fleecy textile one Daisy frequently curled up with when she had a bad day. He could faintly smell her coconut and lavender conditioner. It tickled his nose.
“Sweetheart?” Daniel called weakly.
“Mmm?” Daisy hummed.
“I slept for fourteen hours?” Though he asked a question, his tone was almost a statement.
Daisy nodded, slightly smiling. “I think you caught my cold. Maybe cuddling so much wasn’t a good idea.”
Daniel chuckled a little, but stopped when he saw the flicker of worry in her eyes. He reached over to her and grabbed her hand. “I don’t regret any time spent helping you feel better, Daisy.”
She smiled, mirroring his expression. Their eyes both crinkled at the sides, happy gazes taking in the other. Daisy’s eyes still furrowed though, and Daniel cleared his throat, trying to get rid of the frog there before speaking. The action only scratched his throat, a string of coughs interrupting the couple’s staring contest.
“Hey, could you bring me som—” Daniel was cut off by more crackling coughs. Daisy threw him a concerned glance. He could hardly keep his eyes open, hands clammy and forehead burning, body shaking with hacks. He could feel the dip in the cushion as Daisy moved to sit down beside him, resting her hand on his forehead. Her cool skin felt incredible on his. He understood why she liked it so much when he had done the same.
He slowly opened his eyes, ignoring the dry, itchy feeling and opting to focus on Daisy above him. She looked beautiful, like an angel, with airy morning light surrounding her and two messy braids running down her back. She was his angel. His angel was smirking at the way he leaned into her touch.
“These?” she asked, as she held up a small, blue box of tissues. He nodded, swallowing thickly before sitting up and scooting back to lean against the rounded arm of the tan couch. Daisy laughed quietly.
“What?”
She continued giggling, her small laugh growing a little.
“What’s funny?”
Daisy leaned forward and rested a hand on his thigh for balance.
“You’re wearing those pajama pants I got you for Christmas,” she explained. He glanced down, recognizing the tiny planets of their solar system dyed into the plush fabric. “They’re cute on you.”
He smiled, gazing at Daisy. Then he sneezed. Luckily, he picked up a tissue and covered his face in time to not sneeze in Daisy’s face. Daisy leaned back, laughing. Daniel started to, too, a low rumble in his chest diffusing the nerves he had felt. This was the first time Daisy had ever seen him sick. There was that one time in space when he had almost gotten (unintentionally) poisoned by alien coffee, but that was an unpleasant memory he didn’t want to dwell on. Other than that, not a single sniffle had popped up.
Daisy suddenly stood up and slid to the kitchen in sock feet, a large grin on her face.
“Dais, where’re you going?” he wondered out loud.
“The kitchen, duh,” she replied as she slid to the soapstone countertops, grabbing a red and white box out of the counter.
Daniel recognized it as Daisy’s favourite tea, she had bought it on a mission in South Africa and became enamoured with it. Sometimes Daniel would catch her up at odd hours of the night, when she couldn’t sleep, out on the back patio drinking a steaming mug of Rooibos. He knew it was her favourite, and it had slowly become his, too. Lately, they have made a habit out of winding down from long days at work with mugs in their hands, on the couch or in the backyard, red-amber liquid relaxing their minds and limbs. Those were some of his favourite times with Daisy, spent talking and drinking their tea and laughing at reruns of sitcoms.
The sound of hot water trickling into a mug pulled him out of his thoughts. The mug in question was one he had made for Daisy—large and hand painted, artsy flicks of white and yellow and blue serving as reminders of their time in space. That was a modern invention he was particularly fond of (paint your own pottery, not space). It was mesmerizing to watch the colored, chalky paint glide onto the ceramic surface. He often went to this local hole-in-the-wall café that let you paint one of their mugs and bring it home, for an extra charge. Their coffee and ‘old-fashioned southern’ biscuits were delicious.
Daniel stared as Daisy danced around the kitchen, her fishtails swishing and hips swaying. There was no music, just her. She dunked the tea bag in a couple times and let it steep. When the tea was ready, she poured in a squeeze of honey and grabbed a shiny green bottle of cough syrup, carefully walking over to the couch. Daniel gently took the mug from her, using the corner of the blanket as a barrier so as not to burn his hands. Daisy sat on the coffee table across from him, smiling as Daniel took a sip.
“Hot!” he exclaimed.
“I know I am, you don’t have to tell me,” Daisy teased. “Do you want some ice cubes?”
“Jemma would disapprove,” Daniel shot back.
Daisy rolled her eyes and sighed. “Jemma has put up with my odd tea-drinking since 2013. I already made the tea wrong, might as well make it so that you won’t burn yourself trying to drink it.”
Daniel watched Daisy laugh. As ill as he felt, Daisy just being there helped tremendously. The tea soothed his scratchy throat and her laugh sped up his heart. He knew the pink dust on his cheeks couldn’t be attributed to fever alone.
The pair sat in silence for a while as Daniel finished the tea, thankful for the warm beverage. His headache was slightly dissipating, due to the tea or Daisy’s light aura he wasn’t sure. He sat the mug down on the table and leaned up to peck Daisy’s lips. She leaned in a bit putting her hand on his chest to pull away.
“How about that bath?”
“Only if you come, too,” Daniel whispered.
Daisy chuckled. “You, lover boy, are sick. If we keep this up, one of us is always going to be sick. And plus, I need you distracted while I make a surprise!”
Daniel perked up, his slight pout disappearing. “A surprise…?”
“Yes, Danny-boy, a surprise. Which means I can’t tell you, so sit here and I’ll go fill the tub and then you can feel the full effects of that chill pill.”
Daniel leaned towards Daisy, confused. “What chill pill?”
“This chill pill,” Daisy said, leaning forward until her nose almost touched his. Daniel’s head swam with the scent of her silky blonde hair and vanilla lotion. She gently rubbed her hands up and down his arms and over his shoulders. He took a moment to watch the twinkle in her eye, the warmth resonating through him. He felt the tension from staying on the couch all day slowly release, his arms coming to wrap loosely around Daisy’s back in an attempt to keep her there. She shook her head with a grin and sat up, easing off the couch.
Daisy kissed Daniel’s forehead before walking down the hall to the bathroom. Daniel watched her leave, conflicted. Shouldn’t he be able to take care of himself? He had for years, why stop now? It isn’t like he couldn’t fill up the tub, or cook or grab tissues, no matter how light headed he got. Why did she want to help him? ‘Because I love you, you stubborn square!’ Daisy would say. He could practically hear her protest, ‘Just let me take care of you! It won’t hurt!’
If he was honest with himself, that’s all he wanted.
So, he did.
Daisy came back into the living room, the faint sound of water rushing creating a comforting ambience. He didn’t have his leg on, as laying around all day didn’t require it and he was more comfortable without the prosthetic cramming against the back of the couch. He reached back and grabbed the pair of crutches that were leaned against the arm of the sofa. Daisy walked with him back to the bathroom, making sure he didn’t lose his balance due to dizziness from dehydration. Apparently, that was one reason Daisy had felt so horrible after her mission, she had been so busy taking down bad guys that she almost took herself down, too. Even knowing that dehydration isn’t contagious, neither of them wanted him falling into décor à la Daisy.
They reached the bathroom, Daisy running to their room to grab an extra set of sweats for Daniel to put on once he was done.
While she was rummaging through drawers, Daniel carefully undressed and got into the deep tub.
The bath felt incredible. He could smell the lavender from the fancy epsom salt that Daisy had gotten him wafting up from small waves he created. The water was warm, but not so hot that it burned and not so lukewarm that it would go cold in a few minutes.
“Dais, this is first-class,” Daniel called.
Daisy giggled a bit before responding. “First-class?”
“I know you’re poking fun, but thank you. It feels amazing.”
Daisy peeked her head around the corner, nodding.
“I'm glad you like it. Now I'm gonna go fix that surprise. Yell if you need anything, k?”
Daniel nodded and relaxed his head back, muscles slowly easing their tension and his eyes softly closing.
“Oh, shit!!”
Daniel startled, bath water dripping over onto the towels lining the tub. Daisy’s exclamation didn’t seem pained, but he couldn’t help his brow from creasing. He felt fairly rested, he wasn’t sure how long he had been napping in the water. It had gone from pleasantly warm to tepid, he guessed around thirty minutes at the most.
“Dais, everything alright?”
Daisy paused before responding, “Yep! Got it all under control!”
Daniel smiled and shook his head, figuring it was probably time to get out and troop back to the living room, anyway.
He grabbed the grip-bar beside the tub and eased up, sitting on the edge before swinging his good leg around and stepping onto the floor. He grabbed a towel off his hook on the wall and started to dry off. Daisy had set a pair of comfy pants and a shirt on the counter, which he pulled on before grabbing his crutches and making his way to the kitchen. Something smelled… burnt.
He rounded the corner, stopping in his tracks.
“Uh, Dais?”
“It’s burned, I know,” Daisy said, disconcertedly.
“Are you okay?”
Daisy was staring disappointedly at two bowls of seemingly okay soup. She gestured loosely to the sink, Daniel’s eye following.
“Oh, okay, yeah, I see.”
There was a large pot sitting in the sink, filled with greyish water, black bits glued to the bottom.
“I’m sorry. I know cooking isn’t exactly my thing.”
Sousa smiled, running a hand through his wet hair. Daisy’s hands fidgeted, rubbing at her neck.
“Is the soup in the bowls good?”
Daisy looked him up and down, a twinkle of mirth in her eye, like she knew something he didn’t. She shrugged, “The char adds flavour.”
At that, Daniel grinned and stepped forward a little, leaning against the counter next to her. “I’m up for some extra flavour.”
Daisy looked over at him with an odd expression. “Even sick, never fails.”
Daniel responded immediately, “Through sickness and health.”
Daisy’s eyes went wide.
“Relax, I’m kidding. Mostly.”
Daisy’s posture slumped a little as she hit his bicep. “Funny. You’re a funny, funny man.”
He nodded and felt a deep laugh in his chest. “I am very funny, yes.”
Daisy squinted her eyes at him, turning and picking up their bowls of soup to set on the kitchen island. She slid onto one of the backless bar stools that served as seats for when she didn’t feel like being fancy and eating at a table. Sousa took a moment before following, leaning his crutches against the cabinet after sliding onto the stool across from Daisy. He picked up a spoon and tasted the soup, swallowing down a grimace and giving her a thumbs up.
“It's great!” Daniel exclaimed.
Daisy pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows at him, tasting a spoonful. She was not as great at acting as Daniel was, and could barely keep herself from spitting it out.
“Oh, god, that’s awful!” Despite her wry expression, she was giggling as she picked her cell out of her pajama short’s pocket. Daniel eyed her, perplexed as Daisy hit a button in her .
“Yes, hi... Thank you. Can we get six egg rolls, a small veggie fried rice, a plate of crab wontons, and a small shrimp lo-mein?... Yes! Thank you!... Alright, we’ll be there in ten. Have a good evening!” Daniel watched as Daisy hung up, a bright grin slowly spreading across her face.
Daniel mirrored her, smiling wide. “Chinese food?”
“Yep,” Daisy nodded, popping the 'p'.
Daisy slid lithely off the seat, grabbing the bowls of blackened soup and trashing them. She felt bad, throwing away food. She never got rid of food unless she absolutely had to. Old habits die hard.
She turned around and gave Daniel a smile. She noticed that he wasn’t as pale, his face wasn’t as flushed and he wasn’t swaying like his head was full of air. Maybe she had helped more than she thought. They walked out to Daisy’s car, a metallic dark grey crossover with slightly tinted windows. Daisy got in on the drivers side, Daniel climbing into the passenger. She cranked the car and turned up the radio, checking that Daniel was okay. It was a slightly chilly evening, and the windows were rolled down just enough to let the air in.
The evening felt great, the cool air and orange-pink sky refreshing their senses. Daniel’s eyes were soft as he gazed at Daisy. Even though he caught her cold, he had the feeling that Daisy was the best medicine. Lucky him.
Maybe things do go this great in our universe.

The Impostor
Pairings: Platonic Daisy x Fem! Reader
Request:
could you write something for daisy during the recent season?
would you mind writing a platonic Daisy Johnson x SHIELD agent fem reader where Daisy and the reader were best friends, almost like sisters, and when the reader died on a mission post season 5 Daisy was devastated? Then around season 6 the reader comes back but is completely different because she was reborn on an alien planet and has never met the team and Daisy is struggling to cope with that?
Warnings: season 6 spoilers, death, memory loss, kinda sad near the end

She noticed her blank eyes first. The vast black, void of colour and emotion, that glazed her eyes like a film. Daisy’s own eyes glassed over as the world around her became a distant memory, foggy and muffled as if she was underwater. Yet she was at the SHIELD base, surrounded by her friends and her impostor of a best friend. The air in the room, once alive with electricity, had settled to a dull static.
“Daisy, what’s wrong?”
Jemma’s voice rose from the corners of Daisy’s conscious as the scientist began to step forward. Only then did Daisy realize that she was frozen, staring into (Y/N)’s eyes whilst holding her at an arm’s length.
“Daisy?”
She snapped back to reality, to time, with a sharp jolt. A dull thud echoed as she stepped back from (Y/N)’s body, her ankle rolling in the process. Thankfully May was near, catching Daisy as she fell for she was too in shock to react to her small stumble. Daisy crumbled in May’s warmth, indulging in her familiarity. The second of the pair stood rigid, holding her friend who had grown doll-like, unable to move. Small clicks and thuds bounced from the concrete floor as the others moved to watch Daisy. Their eyes flickered towards (Y/N), a gaze once consumed with joy now littered with apprehension.
“Daisy?” May asked again, staring anxiously through stern brows.
“It’s not her.” Daisy whispered hoarsely.
The others looked at the girl in question, confused.
“It’s not her.”

-
Everyone seemed to be pacing but Daisy. The now blonde had thrown herself (quite dramatically) upon the black sofa that occupied the break room as the others bombarded her with questions or theories. She either responded with a sound or let it fly over her head, for she was too emotionally drained to think properly.
The others were less enthusiastic about her lethargic state. Fitzsimmons bounced theories off of each other, varying from alien planets to a long lost twin. Deke occasionally injected his own thoughts, but mainly stayed glued to his phone as he tried to find any articles or social media posts surrounding (Y/N). May paced in front of Daisy while she waited for Coulson’s return. Paced seemed like an understatement, marching in a repetitive motion as she fired question after question.
“When was the last time you saw her?”
“Eh?”
“Daisy, I need you to-“
“I don’t know May!”
Daisy yelled, violently standing up in one swift motion. The room grew eerie quiet as everyone watched Daisy in awe, who was a completely different woman to the lifeless body that lay on the couch only seconds ago. May didn’t flitch, but she didn’t react either.
“I don’t...know.”
Just as quickly as she’d switched, Daisy had reverted back to her state of numbness and confusion. She felt like collapsing, the weight of her own body too much to bare as her throat closed over. Because she did know when she last saw (Y/N). It was hard to forget the day her best friend died.
May took a definitive step forward and placed an arm on her shoulder, squeezing gently.
“We’ll figure this out, okay?” She said lowly, although everyone heard in the room’s absence of noise. “In the mean time, you need to get a grip.”
“First you hold me up, which is basically a hug, and now an arm squeeze with a threat. What’s gotten into you today?”
“It’s not a threat.” May smirked, glad to see some of the old Daisy peaking through the girl’s damaged state.
Before Daisy could reply, the doors flew open to reveal Coulson and two guests.
“Coulson already filled us in.” Yo-Yo revealed as the three stepped into the room. She went straight to May, the pair immediately breaking out in a conversation of hushed tones, as Mack made his way over to Daisy. They didn’t speak, he only consumed her in one of Mack’s rare but legendary hugs. Daisy let out a sigh, burying her head in Mack’s warmth and familiar scent.
“You okay, Tremors?” He whispered, muffled as his cheek lay against her head.
Daisy didn’t reply, she couldn’t lie to Mack. He would see through her facade, and they were too good of friends to not be completely honest with each other, even when the truth hurt. Time stopped as Daisy listened to the soothing, steady beat of Mack’s heart, wanting to indulge in this moment of warmth and security forever. Unfortunately, she had demons to face.
“What’s the latest?” May asked, finishing her secretive chat with Yo-Yo.
Daisy reluctantly pulled away from Mack to face Coulson, yet he never left her side. Coulson quickly scanned Daisy’s face before addressing everyone, concerned about her wellbeing and overall stability.
“Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your angle, Daisy was right. This isn’t our (Y/N).”
Daisy was punched in the stomach by an invisible force, completely winded. Whilst she saw it coming, the truth was still a bitch. A part of her had hoped that she was wrong, that it really was (Y/N). It was stupid, wishful thinking.
Everyone else seemed to be just as blindsided. Fitz buried his head in his hands as Jemma pressed her forehead to his back, the pair relying on each other for strength and support. Deke almost threw his phone but decided against the frenzied action, instead letting out a deep sigh and glaring at the floor. (Y/N) was apart of the team, so it was a low blow. Even May looked devastated, staring at any object or surface that wasn’t another human being.
“Did she speak?” Daisy wheezed out, staring directly at Coulson.
“Not much, but a little. She seemed pretty disorientated.”
Daisy stared at Coulson for a moment before she let out an incredulous, bitter laugh.
“You think she’s disorientated? That she doesn’t know where or who she is? She freaking stole (Y/N)’s face and is acting as some impostor.”
“Daisy-“ Mack began to warn.
“No, she’s not stupid or innocent. She’s not the victim. Why else would she come here of all places. Why the lighthouse, our secret base?”
Coulson stared blankly at Daisy, letting the silence fuel his thoughts.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t know. I’m still trying to fill in the blanks myself. But Daisy, let’s not villianise anyone yet.”
Daisy scoffed, pulling away from Mack to gain some personal space. The whole situation make her skin crawl.
“I may have a theory.” Jemma offered, her eyes flickering across the room to gage the reaction. Coulson shrugged and spread his hands.
“The room’s yours.”
“Where (Y/N) materialized from remains a mystery. My best bet is still an alternate dimension, an alien planet or some kind of clone. But I think she must have some memories, or at least feelings of familiarity. It would explain why she came here, to us. She may recognize us even if we’re strangers to her.”
“So you think she is attached to our (Y/N)?” May asked, knowing they were treading in dangerous waters.
“Perhaps,” Jemma answered hesitantly, “but I don’t want to imply too much with the little knowledge we have.”
“It fits with the doppelgänger and clone theory, being able to recognize the original owner or host’s thoughts.” Fitz offered, trying desperately to think of a reasonably explanation.
“We’re sure it’s not A.I?” Mack asked cautiously.
“Definitely, or at least 98%. It’s very advanced tech if it is an A.I.”
“It’s not A.I.” Daisy declared, surprising everyone with her sudden input. She became the new subject of interest, eyes fixated upon her.
“I looked at her. I spoke to her. It’s not A.I tech, but it’s also not (Y/N).”
“Daisy, are you-“ Jemma started softly, eyebrows creasing together as she looked at her friend.
“I know I have an emotional link to this but I know it’s not her. I know, Jemma.”
Jemma only offered a small smile of concern laced with sympathy before she turned back to Fitz.
The room became alive once more, a flurry of voices with no real answers or solutions. Only Daisy remained silent, trying to think logically about the vessel that looked like her best friend. It still didn’t seem real. Maybe that was her problem.
“Let me talk to her.”
Silence.
Everyone stopped and stared at Daisy once more.
Then the protests began.
Everyone disagreed, considering her request detrimental to her wellbeing...and (Y/N)’s. There were still so many unanswered questions and questions to still be thought of. It was irrational, unreasonable, dangerous. Those were Daisy’s favourite conditions.
“Please, I need to see her for myself again. Let me talk to her.”
She locked eyes with Coulson, knowing he would understand. Luckily, he knew her well. He nodded grimly, taking a breath before announcing his decision.
“You get ten minutes.”

(Y/N) wasn’t kept in a cell, she wasn’t a criminal. But she was a potential threat, an unknown case yet to be explained. Hence, the containment module seemed to be the safest place. Daisy looked into the room through the door’s small window, her whole body alive with chills. She couldn’t see (Y/N), not from this angle, but the white hexagon walls did enough to make her nauseous. Too much had happened in this room, to her and to others. And now a whole new memory was about to made, for better or for worse.
Taking a silent breath, Daisy set her neutral interrogation face and opened the door. She walked in steadily, finding (Y/N) sitting upright on the crisp, white bed. Looking at her again, Daisy’s breath was taken away. Same colour hair, same blemishes on her face, same eye colour. Yeah something was off. Her posture was too rigid, too robotic. Daisy kept her distance.
“Hi, I’m Agent Johnson. We met earlier.”
Daisy clasped her hands in front of her, voice void of emotion. When the stranger didn’t respond, Daisy continued.
“Do you have a name?”
“(Y/N).”
Daisy’s heart fluttered. The room started to spin as she comprehended what just happened. That was her voice. She has her name.
“Where are you from?” Daisy asked clumsily. She couldn’t call her (Y/N). Not yet.
The girl didn’t reply, and Daisy wasn’t sure if that was a good or a bad thing. She let the silence continue for a moment longer before she tried again, becoming desperate for answers. Precious time was also ticking away.
“Are you from Earth? Another planet? Another galaxy?”
(Y/N) remained still, emotionless. It was a harrowing sight.
“I don’t know.” She finally answered. Something changed, and suddenly she was staring at Daisy with wide eyes.
“I don’t know.” Her voice has changed, from sterile and robotic to panicked and urgent. The blood in Daisy’s veins ran cold, her body acting on instinct and taking a step backwards.
(Y/N) was staring at her, piercing holes through Daisy with her eyes. Yet it wasn’t threatening, it was a plea for help.
“It’s...it’s okay.” Daisy stammered after she regained some awareness, trying to ease (Y/N)’s mind. The girl’s eyes screwed shut as she shook her head.
“No, no it’s not. I don’t know.”
“What do you know?” Daisy asked, trying a different angle.
She watched as the other woman searched her mind for an answer.
“I know my name. I know I woke up in dust, and only one thing was clear: you. I knew I had to find you.”
Daisy felt like she might internally combust. She was trying to keep her walls up, to remain indifferent to this stranger. But it was (Y/N). She had (Y/N)’s face. She had her voice. And now that it was clear that (Y/N)’s motivation was Daisy herself? Her walls began to crumble.
Digging her fingernails into the palm of her hand, Daisy took a step forward and lowered her voice, engaging in a new kind of intimacy.
“How did you get here?” She whispered.
(Y/N) wouldn’t look at Daisy, only at the floor or the opposite wall. Daisy’s heart sank.
“I found a ship, a plane, whatever you call it. It wasn’t easy.” Her voice was brittle and unwelcoming to any further questions. Daisy understood. After all, she had done some questionable things in her own past, and (Y/N), her (Y/N), had never judged her.
Before Daisy could reply, the door opened.
She swore under her breath as Coulson and May entered the room slowly. Daisy’s mind went haywire. She needed more time, she was getting through to (Y/N).
“Daisy, it’s been-“
“No. Coulson, I’m sorry, but she’s talking.”
“This isn’t up for a discussion.”
“Did you not hear me? She’s talking!”
“Daisy, calm down.” May warned as Daisy’s heart rate rose rapidly.
Why couldn’t they see that she just needed time? She clenched and unclenched her fists as she looked from Coulson and May to (Y/N).
She needed more time.
“Please.” She whispered in a hoarse whisper.
The room stood still. Eventually, Coulson stepped forward and placed a hand on Daisy’s shoulder, light and without force.
“Maybe after some lunch, okay?”
She visibly collapsed in on herself in defeat. There was no point making a scene and arguing, she was outnumbered and might remove herself from (Y/N) for good. She had one last look at (Y/N), sitting quietly with hidden eyes on the bed, before she left with May and Coulson by her side. She would be back. She had to come back. (Y/N) was counting on her.
-
-
In a cruel yet expected twist of fate, (Y/N) wasn’t (Y/N).
They all saw it coming, even Daisy. Yet the truth is a mysterious, often painful force of nature that will always prevail. For Daisy, the pain was worse than being shot in the stomach and being on the brink of death (which had happened before). She had lost so many people: Ward, her parents, Lincoln. Now (Y/N) was added to her list of ghosts, twice in fact. Losing her the second time was almost as worse as the first. Almost.
The silver chain gleamed in the warm light as Daisy sat on her bed, twirling the necklace in her hand. Her fingertips traced the cool metal, from each individual link to the paper airplane chain that dangled at one end. She watched as the tip of her index finger became misshapen as she pressed it further into the blunt point of the chain when someone knocked at her door. She muttered some form of approval, too mesmerized by the necklace to look up or open the door herself.
Jemma entered quietly, closing the door behind her with a soft and polite thud. She was fiddling with her own piece of jewelry, the ring on her finger twirling endless circles as the scientist gave Daisy a warm smile.
“How are you?”
Daisy let the question fly over her head. It was something she had been asked for weeks but couldn’t answer honestly. How could she? It felt like her insides had been quaked apart and stitched back together.
“I’m so sorry, that was a stupid thing to ask.” Jemma apologized immediately, her eyebrows creasing together as she spoke.
Daisy sighed and finally brought her gaze up to Jemma, still holding the necklace.
“It’s okay Jemma, you’re...okay. I’m kind of glad it’s you and not Mack for a change.”
“He’s still trying to get you to open up?” Jemma laughed.
“Oh yeah.”
Jemma rolled her eyes playfully, Daisy even managing half a smile. The moment died quickly, reality setting in.
“What, um...what do you want?” Daisy asked, blunt but honest.
Jemma slowly crossed the room and sat next to Daisy as she replied, trying to create a space of warmth and comfort.
“Well, I’m not here to be your therapist, but I thought I could lend you some advice.”
She waited to see if Daisy would refute or reject her offer. She didn’t.
The two sat arm to arm on the edge of Daisy’s bed as Jemma wondered how to begin. The dated yellow light from above bathed them in unique shadows and faded golden rays, lightening their faces but darkening their eyes and the hollows of their cheeks.
“I’ve lost Fitz a number of times now. We all know about the classic Fitzsimmons curse,” she nudged Daisy’s arm for comedic effect, trying to lighten the dreary mood. “But last time felt different. We weren’t lost in time or space or an alternate reality. I actually lost him. For good. And it...it was-“ her voice broke, tears suddenly forming in her eyes.
Jemma’s heart was large but scarred and bleeding. Some things she could never truly recover from, like Fitz’s death. The others never saw her break down, she maintained a facade and kept consumed in her work. But with Daisy, Jemma could be her unapologetic self. It was the beauty of friendship.
Daisy’s heart sunk for her friend as she leant across and grabbed her hand, squeezing it tight.
“I’m so sorry, I’m meant to be helping you not becoming a blubbering mess myself.” The two laughed somberly as Jemma began the wipe her tears away with the palm of her hand. She took a deep breath before continuing, voice slightly shaky.
“Losing Fitz was awful. It sucked. And realizing I could get him back...well, that changed everything. I could have my Fitz back, no strings or A.I attached. But I was scared. Scared it wouldn’t be him, that it wouldn’t work and he’d be a stranger. And, yes, he did miss our wedding and a few other key events, but he’s still my Fitz.”
Now it was Jemma’s turn to squeeze Daisy’s hand.
“Daisy, we all went through the Coulson saga, but I know what it’s like to actually lose and regain someone. I know. I understand your pain. And I’m here for you.”
Daisy’s knuckles whitened as she gripped onto Jemma’s hand as if it were life support. Her throat was tight and dry, so it took her a moment to speak.
“I...Jemma, I miss her.”
Something inside Daisy snapped.
She felt her heart break under the weight of losing (Y/N), twice. Jemma was quick to maneuver herself to cradle Daisy in her arms, returning the favor of comforting a friend with a broken heart. Daisy couldn’t breath, her chest heaving and aching with each sob. As she cried in Jemma’s arms, her mind replayed her final moments with (Y/N), the real (Y/N). She didn’t know if it made it better or worse, but there was no controlling her mind. The memories was all she had now, any glimmer of hope for a revival gone after the impostor incident. So Daisy sat with Jemma and did something she had banned herself from doing: she grieved.
-
-
“Daisy, I’m so sorry.”
“No, don’t say that. Don’t you dare say that!”
Every machine in the room was beeping, no matter how small or irrelevant. Agents ran behind Daisy in sync with the symphony of beeps as she surveyed the spread of maps, coordinates and vitals in front of her. It wasn’t good. (Y/N) and her co-pilot had lost an engine and were descending rapidly. Daisy was trying to think of a solution desperately, but time was flowing like water and everyone knew that the odds were not good.
Daisy’s thoughts were interrupted by a sudden and violent swoosh that came from (Y/N)’s end of the coms. Her stomach flipped.
“(Y/N), what was that?”
Silence.
“Oh god you better be alive. (Y/N) I swear-“
“I’m sorry I’m here! I’m here! I’m alive! Just a bit preoccupied by my crashing jet.”
In any other scenario Daisy would have laughed at her witty sarcasm. It wasn’t appropriate now.
Daisy breathed a sigh of relief yet still felt nauseous as if she was on the spinning, falling jet.
“Okay, well what was that?”
“I may have given Bailey the spare parachute.”
“You what now?” Daisy was consumed by rage and fear. “This is no time to be a hero, (Y/N). Your life is at stake.”
“I’m stuck!”
To Daisy, the room fell silent even though there were dozens of conversations happening in the room. It was only her and (Y/N).
She heard her friend conceal a sob in the disguise of a shaky breath, and Daisy felt like screaming in angst. She couldn’t do anything, and her friend was about to die.
“When our engine got taken out the front got damaged. My seat’s stuck, it won’t eject. My legs don’t look too good either, especially my left one. I think it’s crushed from where the side of the jet collapsed after impact.”
(Y/N)‘s voice was calm but far from fearless. She was panicking, and so was Daisy.
She only had seconds until impact, and both women hated how hopeless they were.
“Daisy, tell me something good.”
“(Y/N)-“
“Daisy please. Please distract me.”
Her plea broke through to Daisy, and she knew what she had to do. Pushing her own grief aside, Daisy focused on (Y/N)’s voice and not the flashing red numbers in front of her. She even smiled to sound more genuine.
“So you know how we brought Deke back from space?”
(Y/N) laughed. “Yeah, and he has a total crush on you. Why are we talking about him right now?”
“Well, did you know he filled my bed with lemons to express his love for me?”
“You’re kidding”.
“Unfortunately no. It reminded me of summer camp-“
“With Jason Higgins! Oh my god, that kid had it bad for me.”
Daisy laughed at the memory, her eyes filling with tears. (Y/N)’s breathing was intensifying as the ground grew closer and closer.
“He gave you an apple everyday.” Daisy continued, trying to distract her.
“Yeah, a Granny Smith which I hated. So on the last day of camp and I stole his beloved toy car and a black marker and wrote-“
Static.
Silence.
“(Y/N)?”
More silence.
Daisy screamed.
