Dancing Wittgenstein by Jazzrausch Bigband sample track: Dancing Wittgenstein Jazzrausch Bigband is compelling evidence that, however unlikely it sounds, Duke Ellington had a baby with Kraftwerk. Techno beats and textures, performed by a big band, with quirky lyrics (I've not found Wittgenstein to be a common lyrical inspiration for musicians), and appealing solos. I've listened to several of their albums this year, picking this, older one, out for longer tracks that allow the band to stretch into their material. This video is compelling evidence that they are a lot of fun live too.

Jazzfest Gronau
#Jazzfest #Gronau '22! Nach zwei "jazzfestlosen" Jahren in diesem Frühjahr wieder: 30. 4. - 7. Mai 2022

Sonntagsfreude: Techno meets Jazz

Our Favorite SXSW 2019 Artist Discoveries
https://i2.wp.com/glamglare.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/SXSW-2019-discoveries-bands-s-.jpg?fit=1000%2C667&ssl=1
The most exciting and memorable SXSW moments happen when you least expect them; when you are blown away by a new act that you didn’t know before, or by arriving a bit too early to see somebody you had on your must-see list and see someone else instead. Or maybe you intended to see a specific act but then their show takes a  different turn and becomes so much better than you anticipated. This time around, we had several of these discoveries and want to share them with you. This is somewhat the chronological order as our discoveries went:
pecas
pecas live @ Cheerup Charlie’s
SXSW artists page
Sometimes you have to change your surroundings in order to appreciate what you have at home. This holds especially true during SXSW when there is time to enjoy the one or the other New York-based act in a different context, outside the same-old venues and setups. This especially came true with  Brooklyn-via-Madrid artist Sandy Davis, who goes by the artist name pecas. Having been at Cheerup Charlie’s early and gotten a front row space, I was mesmerized by pecas, who sang, played bass and grooved to her sound, performing her latest songs. When I dub her “the female answer to Alex Cameron” I mean it with all my heart and affection, and not just because of her moves or because she had a saxophone playing sidekick with her on stage. Next stop, a venue close to home because pecas is among the ones to watch. Closely!

Adam Melchor
Adam Melchor live @ Empire Controllroom
SXSW artist page
Having song picked the New Jersey-born and raised artist earlier this year, we definitely wanted to see the now LA-based singer/songwriter live and holy cow, did he deliver! While Adam Melchor‘s own songs are beautiful song pearls, his performance show stopper came with The Beatles’ classic “A Day In The Life” which he interpreted in a spectacular way. Hope to experience this all soon again!
Listen to “I Don’t Wanna See You Cryin’ Anymore” on Spotify.
THERE
THERE live @ The Townsend
SXSW artist page
As someone who tries to listen to as many SXSW announced artists as possible, I came across THERE before they made a splash via NPR’s Austin 100 and loved them from the spot! Naturally, I went to The Parish, where Sivan Levy and Yael Enosh performed their first official SXSW show as part of Kosha Dillz Oy Vey showcase. Having been totally mesmerized and utterly charmed by the indie electronic duo, it was a no brainer to also attend their second official showcase at The Townsend which was packed to the rim and had everybody in attendance at awe. As of now, there is only one single released but expect an EP or even an album to drop soon as the two have a lot of fantastic music in the bag. Sivan’s sultry vocals and Yael’s mastery on the keys and their common dark and mysterious artistry make for an unforgettable time for many of your senses.
Listen to “Swimming Backwards” on Spotify.
Jazzrausch Bigband
Jazzrausch Bigband live @ Seven Grand
SXSW artist page
This is why you go to SXSW, to have experiences that are not easily to be replicated in the usual touring circuit. Case in point: Munich-based 15+ member live techno band Jazzrausch Bigband. Now, here at glamglare, we generally believe less is more and are not easily swept away by a packed stage, but in this case it totally worked and the energy in the room was palpable.
Listen to “Dancing Wittgenstein” on Spotify.
Josin
Josin live @ Las Perlas
SXSW artist page
We first encountered Arabella Rauch, who goes by Josin, in Reykjavik for Iceland Airwaves 2016. Back then, her music was already appealing yet what she does now sets her apart from the crop of electronic musicians. Having discovered her head voice (as Arabella told us in a lovely chat after the show) and with it a range of new possibilities, Josin enchants an attentive audience who didn’t hesitate to sit down on the cold, naked floor of the venue to listen in awe. Beautiful! Hopefully, we can welcome Josin in New York soon.
Listen to “In The Blank Space” on Spotify.
Minke
Minke live @ Latitude 30
SXSW artist page
The British Music Embassy at Latitude 30 is one of the finest venues in Austin during SXSW – if you get in, because lines are guaranteed here. How lucky we were – with perfect timing– when we could just walk in to see Hælos for an awesome show. But even better, right after them Minke was on, who convinced with great songwriting, an unpretentious stage persona and and a way to break into effortless, skillful guitar solos whenever they fit into a song. We hope she will use our custom glamglare picks in future shows.
Listen to “Something Better” on Spotify.
Lowly
Lowly live @ the Radio Day Stage
SXSW artist page
The two stages at the Austin Convention Center are somewhat of an insider’s tip at SXSW. Not only do they have excellent programming, but there it is also completely ok to sit in one of the comfy chairs and catch some dearly needed breath during the festival. When a band like Lowly, a Danish five-piece plays there, you can let yourself get lost in the beauty of the music and the bliss is perfect. Lowly will release a new album “Hifalutin” on Bella Union later this year.
Listen to “stephen” on Spotify.
Odonis Odonis
Odonis Odonis live @ Swan Dive outdoor partio
SXSW artist page
Without knowing what to expect, we hang out at the M for Montreal showcase with a three piece taking the stage. Hey, never wrong me in book. What this Toronto-based trio put on stage blew my mind! Not only were they surprising their audience with an interesting stage performance but also intelligent industrial post rock to back up the visuals. I would definitely want to see a full set show of Odonis Odonis.
Listen to “Check My Profile” on Spotify.
We also greatly enjoyed the performances of the acts we have ve featured in The Music Preview Guide to SXSW 2019 aka The Pantones, I Know Leopard, Steady Holiday and Eliza Shaddad (glamglare showcase review to follow), or on glamglare before like Annabel Allum, The Cuckoos and HÆLOS. And there were many, many more great discoveries but too many to feature them all.
The Pantones @ Barracuda
Annabel Allum @ The Seven Grand
I Know Leopard @ International Day Stage
The Cuckoos @ The Jackalope
Steady Holiday @ The Central Presbytarian Church
Hælos @ Latitude 30

Jazz Live: Jazzrausch Bigband
Jazz Live: Jazzrausch Bigband
“Bonn has a huge techno club. And the unusual thing is: It has rows of seats!” That’s how band leader Roman Sladek prepared the audience in the Bonn Opera for a very unusual performance at the Jazzfest Bonn. The “Jazzrausch Bigband” combines the beat, the relentless repetitions and the high decibels of club music with that most essential element of jazz: improvisation. “Jazzrausch” means “jazz…

March 2018
Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri was a pretty good movie. Frances McDormand is a queen.
Watching the dancers at Swing Thing. Swing dancing looks amazing, I’m so jealous. Unfortunately I can’t dance at all.
What self-care actually means.
Miss Effis soft fur. Cuddling in the morning. Playing with straws. The sound she makes when I touch her. I knew a cat was missing in my life.
Watching my first ice-hockey match in years! I love the atmosphere in the stadium. The only thing missing is the Rama Lama Ding Dong song they usually play whenever my favourite team scores a goal.
Getting a private diving theory lesson from a hot diving instructor. He also cooked for me and showed my pictures of a shark attack and amazing sea snails.
K. - even if we aren’t supposed to be I feel happy to have someone like him. He loves weird things about me. That I know myself so well. And that I’m very open. And he wants me to like myself more. Sounds like a keeper, huh?
A love affair with classical music. Watching Mozart in the Jungle and going to the concert of the symphonic orchestra at Gasteig really makes me want to get out my cello again. I love this orchestra version of Lisztomania - they use it for the intro in Mozart in the Jungle.
“What do teachers do if they want to go wild?” - “They grade papers without a ruler!”
Barnhouse granola with yoghurt and a ton of fruit.
I don’t know why but the cat sometimes smells like milk chocolate when I kiss her. It’s wonderful.
Spending an evening with Rasmus from Denmark at Flex. A feminist, metal-fan, living in Edinburgh. Good company.
Seeing Kat Frankie live in concert. If I could pick a voice… it’d probably be hers. Lexi and me got “Bad Behaviour” T-shirts with a naughty cat. And Doris was there, too. Didn’t surprise me since everyone (including me) wore denim shirts and made out with ladies (not me).
Singing karaoke with the kids.
Being sweaty (!) after swimming and figuring out a way to do proper arm training in the pool.
Big Harry festival with Frank and Manu. Wearing a dress I hadn’t fit into for months and high heeled boots. Jazzrausch BigBand.
Getting two Malen nach Zahlen giraffes for Stolli.
The best breakfast: mango, raspberries, yoghurt, coconut shavings and a little bit of dark chocolate.
Booking flights to Indonesia and getting all kinds of tips from colleagues!
Wearing red lipstick and pigtails to school and getting TONS of compliments from the girls.
“I’m a grammar nazi.” - “But that’s kinda anti-semantic!”
Hokkaido pumpkin, zucchini, feta and tomato sauce roasted in the oven. Some fresh basil. Deliiiiish.
Creative Instagram accounts like these.
Rocky Horror with the tall, tall dude from Graz. Kissing, forgetting about taking the subway. The yellow ring in his blue irises.
Visible effects of my lifestyle change, especially being more active: I have something resembling shoulder blades now and I can see my spine on the upper back. Also, my heart rate has decreased by about 10-20 beats per minute.
Finding a good way to be able to do push-ups by pulling myself out of the water repeatedly.
Romanesco. What a weirdly perfect vegetable: Romanesco superficially resembles a cauliflower, but it is chartreuse in color, and its form is strikingly fractal in nature. The inflorescence (the bud) is self-similar in character, with the branched meristems making up a logarithmic spiral. In this sense the bud’s form approximates a natural fractal; each bud is composed of a series of smaller buds, all arranged in yet another logarithmic spiral. This self-similar pattern continues at several smaller levels. The pattern is only an approximate fractal since the pattern eventually terminates when the feature size becomes sufficiently small. The number of spirals on the head of Romanesco broccoli is a Fibonacci number.
Calling the cat Effi Biest.
Margaret Atwood. I’m currently reading Lady Oracle and I want to get started with the MaddAddam series afterwards. I love her writing style.
Spending an evening at Dantebad with K. Chasing each other round the pool. Sitting in his lap, stimulating blood circulation.
My life turned to shit when my car broke down that evening but the Bosnian ADAC guy was really nice. I liked him and he even drove me home!
Being praised for my calm, factual reaction to the car fiasco.
Miso soup. With nori and mushrooms, furikake and umeboshi vinegar. Some soy or fish sauce. I can’t get enough of it at the moment. It’s a part of my new three course breakfast. Miso, some vegetables with a soft-boiled egg and fruit with yoghurt as a dessert.
Jonathan. Couldn’t think of a better colleague. He even listens to me whining on the phone for an hour and even thinks of constructive comments and other ways of thinking about my issues.
Olivier gave me KitKats on his birthday and I pushed him around on a book cart, pretending to be in a game of Mario Kart.
Making Rose Bakery’s lemon cake (with blueberries and poppy seeds). Although one tiny piece has about 500 calories and I might have to freeze it to resist temptation.
My green tea obsession. So far I have green tea with coconut (and mango), rhubarb-raspberry, ginger-ginseng/grapefruit and peach.
The bluish undertones of the Anny Milady Marsala nail polish under water.
Shopping at Mango. That red dress! Those black silk sandals. Pretty! My favourite store at the moment.
The goodie box I received in the mail. Friedericke sent some treats for me and the cat before she went to Colombia.
Reading at the library. Eye contact with a pretty guy getting some work done at one of the desks.
Meeting little Miss Theresa. My friends have babies now, I have the cat. I like it like that.
My new Soul Bottle with jellyfish print.
Going to the cinema alone. Spontaneously. I ended up seeing Call me by your Name - a lot of summer and kissing, beautiful. And it’s wonderful how much of an indulgence a handful of popcorn can be. I got a mix of salty and sweet and savoured every kernel. I appreciate treats so much more (and in much smaller dosages) since I’ve been eating healthier.
The name Mafalda.
Seeing the Paul Klee exhibition at Pinakothek der Moderne. Cuddling with baby Pauline. Walking through the sketchbook room (I love sketches and drawings even more than paintings).
Ramen with sesame broth and an extra egg at the new Takumi. An evening with Lena.
Meeting a nice doctor from Klinikum Bogenhausen when I had a look at her apartment (pretty but too small).
Reading over 120 pages in one day (Murakami) just by bringing a book to public transport.
Pikas (Pfeifhasen)  - the sounds they make are adorable (but could be confused with stepping on a dog toy).
Sleeping under two blankets. Both fresh out of the washing machine. The smell of clean laundry makes me so happy. Apparently you can even buy weighted blankets which are supposed to help with insomnia!
Cuddling with the cat in the morning (one of the rare times she actually wants you to touch and notice her).
That actor who plays Luke in The Handmaid’s Tale.
Wearing old pyjama pants which used to be too tight. Great feeling.
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
