Wasn't sure if I should post this, but there's apparently so little JayAlan out there, it doesn't feel right to keep it to myself.

alanjay for the ship meme!!
:/
anyways
Don’t Ship It
1. Why don’t you ship it?
-no chemistry. zero. none. sure they make good friends but imo at their cores jay's a doormat and alan's an asshole. jay's a people-pleaser and very morally upstanding and alan's routinely blowing up. shades of grey vs black&white. just can't see it. also jay's straight SO STRAIGHT THE STRAIGHTEST MAN ALIVE and happily married and alan's gay so <3
god also given The Shade (1997) #3 and the way jay posits that todd rice/obsidian is maybe "born bad" at one point in JSA 1999 hmmmm i have opinions about his opinions <3
2. What would have made you like it?
-nothing <3
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
-also no <3 they make good/decent friends at MOST. jay did allow alan to live in his guest room for a good while i won't fault him for that but alan's way too. alan for a long term relation of any kind. facts.

Slow Dance With You
Summary:
The JSA is at a gala and Alan and Jay haven't gone public with their relationship yet... but that doesn't mean they can't join in the festivities.
Fandoms: Flash (Comics), Green Lantern (Comics) JSA (Comics)
Rating: General
Warnings: N/A
Categories: M/M
Characters: Jay Garrick, Alan Scott
Relationships: Jay Garrick/Alan Scott
Additional Tags: slow dancing, secret relationship, old married couple
The music threading through the gala brought the usually vigilant members of the Justice Society into a pleased daze where they’d joined among the civilians, seemingly unnoticed even in their costumes. Jay could feel even his breathing slow in time with the steady rhythm as he watched the scant couples sway to the song.
He smiled when he caught sight of Johnny and Libby among those couples, and that smile only grew when he gave a mock salute to Ted who was currently nodding to the girl in his own arms as if in approval.
He was jolted from his thoughts by a hand that came over his shoulder, running down his bicep as the man it belonged to took a seat next to him with a wide smile.
“This seat taken?” Alan asked, bringing Jay to return his smile with ease.
“It is now,” he whispered, both of them sharing a laugh as they looked back out over the room.
“Beautiful night,” Alan said. “Too bad the song’s almost over.”
“Were you finally going to ask me to dance?”
“I had something like that in mind,” he offered with a shrug and that only made Jay smile wider.
That same smile slowly wavered as he realized the other man wasn’t laughing. “You’re kidding,” he said, stealing a glance to the crowded room.
“Not here,” he said, but held out his hand anyway.
Jay took it as it was offered with only a final look back at the unsuspecting crowd as Green Lantern and the Flash stole away to the side doors too quickly for the latter to remember his hat.
From that well lit, warm room, they opened into the art museum’s courtyard. The museum’s courtyard was full of fantastic sculptures all made with the intent to survive in the open space, but it seemed Alan had something different in mind when he pulled Jay a bit closer and his ring produced a light glow.
“Hang on,” he laughed against the crook of Jay’s shoulder, already lifting them above the museum to wait among the clouds.
Jay looked down as his legs and Alan’s curled around one another, the building growing smaller until it was but a familiar shape on the well-maintained hill. The lights they shined below lit up the sky under the full moon, meaning they were probably harder to spot all the way up there than the building was to them. It was something Jay recognized with a sad gratitude, but anything but the lightness in his chest he felt from holding Alan close left him as he heard sweet music start to croon into his ear, turning to find the culprit in a bright green record player.
“Oh, now isn’t that lovely?” he asked, happy when Alan’s arm came more tightly around his waist.
“It’s not quite over yet, either,” Alan said. “We can’t exactly dance like this. Why don’t you try standing on your own?”
Jay gave him a look at first, but maintained silence on the matter when all Alan did was return with a look of his own. He placed his right foot back as if to step down, surprised when he met something solid.
Looking down, he saw a hexagon tile in the same shade of green. When he put his other foot down next to it, another of the same shape and size bloomed in time with his step.
He laughed and whooped, but still held onto Alan’s shoulders when he looked down.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry,” Alan crooned to him as he pulled him a bit closer. “I’ve got you. We just need one more thing.”
With a wave of his hand, another projection stemmed just a bit off, a stout record player that made Jay laugh even as Alan asked, “Any requests?”
“Oh, Alan, you’re good but can you mimic a record? Wouldn’t you have to memorize the grooves?”
He feigned indignation, though he couldn’t manage to lose his smile as he turned away. “Not if I’m just playing the song. I can mimic a song I’ve heard before, Jay.”
With a smile of his own, Jay studied his face in the green glow that underlit them and the cool star light pouring over him. One arm still fastened around his shoulders, Jay dragged Alan’s face down by the chin to rest their foreheads together. “Then to make it easy on you… why don’t you just play a song that reminds you of me?”
Alan softened at that, a green record flipping down onto the player as the needle moved on its own into position.
Soft piano and the occasional strum of guitar tipped Jay off immediately: Chances Are. A little bit newer of a song, but Jay was a modern guy. There was no time to mention that though or show his affection for the song more than the pep in his step as he pulled Alan closer. Afterall, he didn’t want to miss a moment of their dance.
“So, stranger,” Alan said as he allowed himself to be swung around, his legs not moving where he just floated in front of his dance partner. Jay was taking full advantage of the moving plates, though, making sure to keep his balance as they swayed from side to side, “what brings a man like you to a gathering like this?”
Jay gestured to the ground with their joined hands. “Do you think it’s below me?”
Alan really tried to fight the chuckle bubbling in his throat, but a few precious notes of it were paired with Johnny Mathis’ voice. “Not at all. Just thought a man like you might have better things to do on a night like this.”
With a light hum, Jay adjusted his hand on Alan’s back to instead rest on his shoulder and then his chest. “Well I guess you’d be wrong there. I just come here for the hot guys.”
The laughter came more freely that time as Alan was again turned, his cape flowing behind them while they moved along the disappearing and reappearing tiles of their endless dance floor.
They settled into a rhythm as they continued to sway, Jay only lifting his head to lipsync to the line “Hold me close dear,” and press a kiss to the corner of Alan’s mouth before laying his head over his shoulder.
Alan smiled as he brought his hand up from Jay’s waist to instead curl under his arm in something more of a hug than a dance. It probably wouldn’t have been too comfortable to stand nad do if they both had to keep their feet on the same plane.
“You hummed it last week all the way on our ride back,” he murmured into the side of Jay’s face. “You got it stuck in my head, and I’m sure Diana was two seconds from hopping out and getting home on her own if you’d gotten any louder.”
Jay only laughed and let his eyes slip closed. “We’ll just have to head home on our own then. Would probably be faster if I gave you the right motivation.”
Pulling away for just a moment, Alan looked down at his dance partner. “You’d rather we go off on our own after every mission than just not hum a song over and over.”
“Can’t help it. It’s a good song, and I think the tune’s going to stick with me even longer after this.”
“Oh? And might there be a similar reason you couldn’t let it go to begin with?”
“Yeah well, you found out my dirty secret: This song makes me think of you, too.”
If the way Alan’s cheeks heated didn’t show in the light and under his mask, his butterflies still would have shown when the record scratched slightly and Jay’s foot had to shoot back to the platform that hadn’t moved while he quietly laughed against his neck.
“I’m sorry,” he said, maintaining his composure on his own though Chances Are had now sped up just a bit until Jay’s hands on his shoulders could calm him enough to return to the previous tempo.
When Jay again pulled away to look at him, though, it started to fade away entirely. Their lips met truly for the first time that night, not the quick peck from before but an honest kiss that Alan was happy to ignore the final lines of the sweet song when he’d much rather pay attention to where this was going. In the silence of their sky, Jay pulled him further down and allowed Alan to pull him further into his arms so that the plates could disappear and take the remains of their green light with them.
Alan loved Jay more than he hated that the other man made him feel like a nervous teenager, and Jay loved Alan more than he hated the idea of falling. Maybe that was only possible because Alan didn’t have to fear those feelings with him just as Jay didn’t have to fear falling with Alan’s arms around him.
Ted would find his hat in a moment after he’d come over from his dance. Maybe the look he’d give him the next day when he returned it would be a little too knowing, but that was for the Jay of tomorrow to worry about.

ALAN SCOTT & JAY GARRICK in ALAN SCOTT: GREEN LANTERN (2023)

Alan also strikes me as a man who is VERY appreciative of manly men and, in turn, it makes him very appreciative of manly musk. this is why he secretly nabs one of Jay's used shirts that he stuffs under his nose, over his mouth, breathing in Jay's scent as he jerks off in the privacy and solitude of his bedroom.
I think Alan Scott should have a scent kink. it makes sense. he's a repressed gay man who values privacy, and so a lot about his sexual expression hinges around keeping things behind closed doors. you know what's also kept behind closed doors? laundry.
