If I may add to this post.
I've seen a lot of people comment on Pink being awful, but no one ever seems to talk about the fact that her abandoning Spinel had a lot more reason behind it than just "I don't wanna play with this anymore."
The biggest thing that's drawn attention to right out of the gate is how when all the gems reform, they do... Very basic things. But, these things translate well into who they are in the present and it makes sense. Example, Amethyst copying everything she sees, eventually using shapeshifting to do so, something she does often now.
However, no one seems to talk about how Spinel was... Clearly, far too clingy. Spinel, after her reset, was portrayed as Steven's Self Titled new best friend, and during the entirety of Steven and Spinel's interactions, she LITERALLY CLUNG to him. She would be in playtime mode at all times, and only really did ANYTHING with Steven, constantly trying to get his attention, or make him laugh, or just, anything. And anecdotally, I've done that before myself. The feeling of leaning on someone for support, believing the only way to be happy is to make someone else happy. The problem is, you can't isolate yourself like that.
Now remember how I mentioned Amethyst and her shapeshifting? A lot of people have been trying to say that Spinel's angry "NO" was because Steven was hitting her trauma and that's why she reacted that way, but... That doesn't make any sense. Not a single other reset gem had anything like that at ALL. Not even Pearl after seeing Ame transform into Rose Fucking Quartz, y'all. That can only lead me to assume Spinel reacted the way she did, because that's just what she was like. And it matches up pretty well with her very first step after being abandoned to GET REVENGE. She's petty. Petty, and lonely, and bitter. And it's not like Steven was even going to be leaving her "alone;" every time someone brings up that "no" line, they never mention how Steven is telling her to "stay with the others" ie Lapis, Peri and Bismuth. Y'know, OTHER FRIENDS...? But no, she needs to be by STEVEN'S side at all times because STEVEN is her BEST friend.
You get what I'm getting at here?
Pink more than likely abandoned Spinel, because she couldn't think of any way out of the situation that didn't involve holding Spinel at arm's length. Yes, it absolutely was the wrong thing to do, I completely agree. Having a sit down and chat with Spinel would've been much better than just not coming back at all, but what I'm saying here, is that I personally don't think either of them were very good people, but I love them both dearly and Spinel especially is super important to me. Spinel is the type that NEEDS companionship. She's a very dependent character, at least from what I've seen. In the song Drift Away, she talks about how when Pink smiled, that's what she was after! She was literally a court jester who just wanted to see the princess smile. But the thing is, that's not very healthy either. The crutch of letting other people's happiness determine your own is very bad for your mental health, so really, it's no wonder she was so angry and aggressive about Pink leaving; in her mind, Pink was all she ever had.
That's just my thoughts though.
With the release of the movie, I have seen an influx of hatred towards Pink/Rose.
And that irritates me.
Yes, what she did to Spinel is terrible. What she did to Spinel gave Spinel her own type of trauma.
But y'all seem to be forgetting about/ not caring about Pink's trauma.
Pink was abused. Pink was under high expectations, yet for the longest time was never given any chance to prove herself. When she misbehaved, she was locked in a dark tower and starved of light.
Just remembering what Steven said about Pink to Blue.
"How many times did you lock her in here? How many times did you make her cry?"
It doesn't excuse what happened between Pink and Spinel. But people have to remember her upbringing. Unlike Steven, she didn't have people encouraging her and holding her hand through things. And there were serious consequences for doing what she felt was right. That was the only thing she knew. Sure, her actions were childish and bratty. But I've seen so many people calling her evil. She's far from evil. She isn't good, either. She's created heroes and villains. I think so many people saw her as this perfect, wonderful being.
'I always thought I might be bad, now I'm sure that it's true. Cause I think you're so good, and I'm nothing like you. ' -Love Like You.
I am positive this line is Rose singing to Greg. Always have been. She knows she isn't perfect. She's made mistakes, and done things she didn't like. To write her off as a villain is ignorant. The greatest lesson from Steven Universe is that the world isn't as simple as black and white. Of course she would seem like the worst SU 'villain'. She's the only person we won't get a redemption for. She will never have the chance to make up for her mistakes, or fix her wrong doings. She will never have the chance to overcome her trauma, unlike Spinel. Whether or not due to her own actions, my point stands. There will always be gems like Spinel and White that get redemptions. Pink/Rose never will.
It should also be known that Pink was the ONLY diamond the treat other gems with respect. Pink worked towards freedom on Homeworld before she even knew it.
She lacked the ability to change like Steven did. Pink wasn't able to change because change was regarded as bad. Change made you imperfect. And to Pink, who was already imperfect, that wouldn't have help her in anyway.
But yeah, she's so evil.
Remember everyone,
If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs.

I will literally never get tired of the trope of well-meaning but emotionally constipated dumbass and his impulsive yet smart and enthusiastic girlfriend who he truly believes is too good for him. It's the most charming shit ever when neither one is more dominant. They balance perfectly

So I've seen a lot of people treat Pink abandoning Spinel with the justification that "Pink had a colony now and didn't need Spinel anymore."
No. Literally no. That's not what it is.
I fully believe that Spinel was given to Pink specifically to replace her pearl. Pink Pearl. While I'm not gonna take credit for this theory since I'm sure someone else thought of it first, this is what I have to say.
It's been getting under my skin that people are adopting the idea that Spinel's only purpose was to be a distraction, or a toy for Pink, when that's not at all her reason, and it needs to be addressed.
I believe the reason Spinel exists is because, the Diamonds noticed something with Pink and her Pearl. Mind you, the Pearls are meant to be servants, and nothing more. Their opinions aren't suppose to matter, and they're only meant to do, well, basically office work. They're like butlers. But Pink treated her Pearl differently.
As seen in Steven's dream, he has a vision of himself, playing games, and making Pink Pearl laugh. This is important because it's clearly trying to explain that Pink use to play with her Pearl, which wouldn't be allowed, explaining why Steven and Pink Pearl are so quick to pretend to look regal when Yellow peeks in.
The diamonds saw this over time, and once it was discovered that Pink had found a "friend" in her servant, Pink Pearl was taken away, and Pink Diamond was given White Diamond's Pearl, to replace her. Fully confident that Pearl would be the best Pearl, since she was originally White's, it can be assumed that the reason Pearl's reboot song has a 3 at the end of it is because this is the THIRD time she's been booted up. The second time being when she was Pink's, and the FIRST time, White's.
Pink Pearl was taken away, and then turned to a mindless zombie by White. How much force was used might explain the ruined eye later.
Now let's get back to Spinel. Since Pink wasn't allowed to befriend her Pearl, what better way to keep her busy than with a Spinel? Now, to Blue, Yellow, and White, Spinel WAS just a distraction, but to Pink, she was a genuine friend. The problem here, is that you cannot replace your friends.
Pink Pearl was Pink's first real friend, and individuals are very different, even in gems, as we've seen; each gem has their own conscious. Spinel was designed to replace Pink Pearl, but, that simply isn't how things like that work. Pink grew tired of Spinel not because she didn't have a use for her anymore, but because she didn't want to be Spinel's friend. He couldn't handle who Spinel was. Childish, clingy, and just all around an inexperienced gem. She's literally coded to be a child, guys, and Pink was tired of it. Yes getting a colony may have had something to do with it, but I swear to God if I hear one more person act like Pink suddenly dumped her because "she didn't need her anymore" then I'm going to blow a fuse.
The diamonds thought that by taking Pink's friend away and giving her a new one, that things would be fine. But you can't force friendships, and with Spinel being created literally to have ONE friend, it's no wonder Rebecca refers to Spinel as a toxic person. She immature, and spiteful, and her motivations perfectly line up with how old she is mentally.
No one is innocent, and relationships and bonds are complicated and stressful, no matter how strong.

So, after rewatching all of Aggretsuko so far, I have a few things to say regarding the relationship between Haida and Retsuko.
Throughout the show, at COUNTLESS points, it's made clear that no one really knows Retsuko.
Fenneko and Haida only know the surface level of her, being work friends. Gori and Washimi on the other hand, are explicitly shown to be her "BFFs," knowing her better than the entire rest of the cast. This is important for several reasons.
The show puts a very sharp lens on the idea that your soul mate has to be someone you're comfortable around. Someone who lets you be who you are. And while it's a lot more obvious in season 2, season 1 touched on this as well. Haida makes the point that while he'd like to think he knows Retsuko, he admits that, he really doesn't. But he wants to. And he makes that ever prevalent in his many attempts to spend time with her. Not only that, but he's constantly sticking his neck out and going out of his way to do things for her at nearly every opportunity. The show rams it into your skull that Haida really loves Retsuko.
Now, why is this so important.
It's been shown that, again, Haida doesn't know much about Retsuko. However, the things he doesn't know are things that the show has already implied wouldn't bother him. The emphasis on him calling himself edgy, the leather jacket, the bass, all of it. He's already in the same general camp as Retsuko is in terms of style and taste, as Retsuko's life is defined by her death metal rocker heart. Hell, Ton even tells her that she needs to think for herself, or she "will never be the badass she wants to be." This was by the end of season two, so by then Ton has had enough time to understand that Retsuko isn't as sweet and submissive as she'd give the impression to be.
Retsuko and Haida are honestly a match in terms of how they would get along, but what's holding Retsuko back is how little she knows about Haida. It's made very clear through the fact that Haida barely knows Retsuko, that of course they have a mutual level of understanding. This is important because it helps you understand why Retsuko would only want to be a friend to him.
Retsuko has so far been the type to get into relationships spontaneously. You know, she meets up with a boy a few times, and suddenly she's in love. It's the telltale puppydog crush that typically can be shut down and forgotten about a lot sooner than later.
This isn't to say her relationship with Tadano wasn't genuine, but it definitely was mismatched.
What I'm getting at here is Retsuko isn't the type to slowly build a friendship and make it something more. Her best friend and her boyfriend are different people in her mind.
Haida is the polar opposite, meanwhile. He has been shown to hold Retsuko up HIGH above most others, and defends her frequently. He's developed far past a crush, and reached a point where he legitimately loves her. And with Fenneko as his wingman, he's had to deal with the harsh reality that despite how close he is, he's so far at the same time. Hell Haida's plot in the Christmas Special was purely about him trying to get over the fact that he was left out to dry, and even then, it ended with his faith in the possibility of dating her restored by the time credits rolled.
The last thing I want to touch on is why Retsuko broke up with Tadano. Resasuke made sense. He wasn't good at empathy, and his self awareness was pretty low. But Tadano was a person, and a lively one at that. He complimented Retsuko's hard working attitude with his own laid back idealist nature perfectly. The only issue? He didn't think marriage, or kids were worth their weight. He deemed them pointless, which Retsuko didn't like.
Now back to Haida. While he himself stated that he's "edgy, and edgy guys don't care about that sort of thing," it's heavily implied by other lines and general behaviors that his true dream is in fact, to marry Retsuko. The fact that he even has a proper response to her hypothetical about getting married back in season 1 highlights this, putting emphasis on the romantic aspects.
Haida and Retsuko are a perfect match. Don't fucking @ me

Just realized how sweet it is that Blue's tears hurt but Pink's heal. Makes that "Blue thinks she needs you" line from White a lot more interesting too. In fact, Pink's powers as a whole seem to have been directly manifested by the powers the other diamonds would use on her; especially since the first time we ever saw her act out was in front of Yellow, who we all know to have the more aggressive powers.
And even then, when the Diamonds reverse their powers, it all just sounds like stuff Rose did to help people, healing them, making them happy, giving them a voice...
The Diamond family has a lot goin' on
