"The Endless Basis"TERRA ROSA

所���和製様式美HM/HRと呼ばれるものは、日本固有のものであり、もしかしたら後の欧米プログパワーメタルの色彩を先取りしたものかもしれない。今日においてゴシックメタルの元祖などと一部で謳われもするRAINBOWだが、ヒロイズム、リリシズムを感じさせる曲は全体のごく一部である事は、ファンなら承知の通り。イングウェイですら全部が全部そういう曲ではない。そういう要素だけ抽出しバンドコンセプトにまで昇華させた和製様式美HM/HRは、発想こそKill the Kingからであったとしても、総体としてはそれらと全くの別物なのだ。これはもっと特筆されていって然るべきことと思う。

それら全ては、ここから始まった。当時のジャパニーズプログレからも影響を受けたと思わしき、和風ヒロイズムがたまらない。情景表現豊かな歌詞も素晴らしい。勿論和製Ronnie James Dioと誉れ高い赤尾氏の卓越した歌唱、強烈なチョーキングが耳をつんざく三宅氏のギター、バンドサウンドに重厚なデコレーションを施す岡垣氏のKey…と、演奏面でも特筆しだしたらキリがない。名インスト"Fatima"はちょっとある噂を耳にしたのであまり取りざたさないほうがいいのかな。以降、VOLFEEDやMOONSTRUCK等数多くのフォロワーを生み出すことになる記念碑的名盤。

I had been trying to get this game for years but every time it appeared in a shop or Yahoo Auctions it went for silly money. Finally, I found a copy in a small independent game store for only 500 yen. Even at 500 yen it’s a waste of money! What I was expecting was loads of great X Japan music but what I found was a boring as hell RPG. So, God only knows why they wrote "Music Entertainment" as the game's description on the case.

X Japan Virtual Shock is a fully FMV-based RPG that has you playing the part of a cameraman wandering around the backstage corridors of Tokyo Dome. It’s up to you to find out where the band members are and shoot some great shots.

I played this for 3 hours straight and never got anything remotely interesting. Yeah, I took a few shots of the band members rehearsing or giving interviews now and then, but the majority of the time was spent wandering around backstage being told to piss off or come back later. Also not once did I find any place to save my progress meaning that once I had switched off the game I’d have to start again from scratch.

Even for the X Japan fan, I can’t see this title bringing much enjoyment. It's best bought for collecting purposes only or if you're a nut for color-printed discs.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) has expanded access to over-the-counter birth control that will “soon be available to Arizonans,” according to a press release.

Arizonans 18 and older will soon be able to go to their local pharmacy and purchase oral contraceptives without a doctor’s prescription.

2. ‘Great news’: EU hails discovery of massive phosphate rock deposit in Norway

A massive underground deposit of high-grade phosphate rock in Norway, pitched as the world’s largest, is big enough to satisfy world demand for fertilisers, solar panels and electric car batteries over the next 50 years, according to the company exploiting the resource. About 90% of the world’s mined phosphate rock is used in agriculture for the production of phosphorous for the fertiliser industry, for which there is currently no substitute.

Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon fell 34% in the first half of 2023, preliminary government data showed on Thursday, hitting its lowest level in four years as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva institutes tougher environmental policies.

Data produced by Brazil's national space research agency Inpe indicated that 2,649 square km (1,023 square miles) of rainforest were cleared in the region in the half year, the lowest for the period since 2019.
