“Don’t lie to me.”
Tumblr media
Yellow Smoke au- when someone lies, Janus sees yellow smoke come out of their mouth. The bigger the lies, the thicker the smoke.
//
Not sure if I wanna make Moceit canon to the au but they fit way too well 😭 the au is pretty versatile so anyone can use it if you want lol (honestly it’s more like a headcanon)

You Do Not Have to be Good - moceit
Tumblr media
Patton hates alcohol. Not particularly for a moral reason, it just tastes godawful to him. But he came to Janus's room for a distraction, and goshdarnit he'll take it. He cringes through a sip as they sit on the floor, and Janus laughs.
"Oh, Patton, it's cider. Barely any alcohol at all, and you can barely stomach even that." As if to prove a point, Janus swings back his bottle and takes a sip so large he gulps audibly. Patton can't help a small giggle, even as bad as he feels.
"Gosh, Jan, I don't know how you and Logan handle this stuff."
"Simple. We're not man-babies."
Patton laughs and lightly punches Janus's shoulder, coaxing the smallest of smiles from the other man. He settles back against the wall. Janus isn't used to guests, aside from one who isn't a fan of sitting 'properly,' so he has no chairs strewn around his room the way the light sides do.
Janus tilts the liquid around in his bottle with a sigh. "Care to tell me what brought you to me today? My room isn't exactly one of our typical 'spots'."
"Oh! Oh, nothing special or anything, just checking up on you," he says, flashing a winning smile.
"How many times are we going to visit each other before you remember you can't lie to me?" Janus states bluntly, not looking at Patton at all, his eyes fixed on the blank wall across from them.
"Whu- uh- lying? I'm not-"
"How many times will I have to say that sentence? You can not follow 'you can't lie to me' up with a lie, Patton, that's not how this works."
"Look I- I don't really want to talk about it. I came to hang out with you, I don't wanna just-"
"So you're going to talk to one of the others then, yes?" Janus's eyes flit over the fading dark blue in Patton's hair. "How about Logan? I'm sure he'd totally be helpful here, I mean, being so good with his emotions."
Patton frowns at him and Janus sighs, rewording. "All I mean is, you don't talk to anyone else, so it stands to reason that if I don't get you to spit it out, you'll keep 'doing your thing' and only ever talking about how you feel at a surface level while letting the pressure below build and build until you blow up. Am I wrong?"
Patton blinks at him, and then turns away, curling his legs up towards his body and squeezing his free hand's nails into his palm. He's taken to doing that lately, though he doesn't know why. Someone says something that hurts, and he digs his nails deep into his skin or bites his lip so hard it bleeds, then the pain is gone. Dig, dig, gone. "That's not very kind, Janus."
Janus shrugs. The sun is beginning to set, and the room is going golden, the dark walls being cast in the shadows of Janus's blinds. "If someone was never anything but kind, they'd be a liar. I don't want to lie to you forever."
"You don't?"
"Oh wow, yeah, sound shocked about that, sure." Janus rolls his eyes, but he doesn't look angry. "Patton, it's stupid to keep going like you are. Look, if anyone can keep secrets, it's you and me - I'm the best one to talk to here. None of the others seem smart enough to notice how messed up you've been."
Patton cringes, and takes a drink of his cider, which makes him cringe harder. "I'm not... that bad, am I? That obvious?"
"It's pretty bad, dad," Janus sighs. He finally looks at the other man, meeting his eyes. "I promise, okay? And I don't do that lightly. I won't speak a word of whatever is bothering you."
Patton's brow furrows, and he breathes out slowly. He digs his nails into his palm again. Breathes again. Just the offer of talking is threatening to bust down year old dams, but perhaps Janus is right, and this needs to happen. And... he did promise. He's never done that before.
"It's not exactly simple to explain... I guess it's just- it's like- I'm-" Patton sighs, frustrated. "I just don't know anymore if- if I'll ever get it right."
"Right?"
"Being morality. Being... good." Patton's voice strains, and he wipes at his face. "I don't know if I can ever be good, be good enough, be good at my job. I've been messing up nearly everything lately! I can't keep Thomas good, and when I do try to keep him good, I end up being an overbearing jerk. I can't seem to make Roman happy, or Virgil anymore, and," Patton plays with the fringe tips of blue in his hair, almost subconsciously, "I can't make Logan feel good either. We used to be so, so close. Worked through all of our issues, we were really good friends! But he's been so- look, I know he says he doesn't feel anything, but I can tell he's feeling something! And he won't tell any of us about it."
Janus drinks, reserving information as he always does. Patton is upset enough, now's not the time.
"All I've ever wanted was to be good," his voice breaks, and he clears his throat, blinking back hot tears. "Ever since I've existed, I've wanted to be good. What would it mean for Thomas if his morality isn't good?! Maybe you were right, I'm just pointing him towards hell. I'm not doing my job right. How can I be messing up so much? I used to be the one who the others looked at to know everything..." He bites his lip hard, but it doesn't do anything this time. He's crying now, wiping the sleeve of his cat hoodie across his face furiously.
"Who says you have to be good?"
"What?"
Janus sighs, sipping his drink. "'You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.' Mary Oliver. Goodness isn't necessary one hundred and twenty-five percent of the time. You're an animal like any other, and you only need do what makes you happy, just like any other. You're not some divine being above the ability to screw up or be sad."
"You and Thomas's religious sensibilities are very tied together. You're stuck on this idea that as morality, you can only ever have good and pure ideas. You can never make mistakes, and you can never be wrong. Look, sure, we're no humans, but you're a piece of a human, and they're kind of renowned for their mistake making. I've told you before, Patton. If you're making a genuine effort to do better, then your apologies mean enough. You've repented. You didn't even need to, but you do anyway. Because you're good, as much as a side can be. You're so good you make me sick sometimes. I was being a dick when I said you're pointing him towards hell, being a dick is kind of my thing. I don't think you're even capable of knowingly being a bad person."
Patton feels tears pour down his face, staring sightlessly at his bottle as Janus rants. He's drawn blood from his lip. The words are making some deep piece of him ache worse than he has in years. Without thinking, he sets his head on Janus's shoulder. Janus barely blinks, leaning into him as he continues.
"You do make the others happy, Patton. They love you so much it's gross. But they have issues as well. Issues that are getting worse as Thomas's mental health is plummeting. All pieces of Thomas have gripes and qualms right now, I don't understand you all's strange insistence on everything being fine. Want me to lie? Everything is just fine! Why, nothing is eating at any of you, and you're at the peak of your lives!" Janus sighs, eyes closing. "It's okay to experience pain, you know. It doesn't make you bad. Nor does making mistakes. It makes you a living thing, as caught up in your own world and worries as every other living thing. You're doing okay, Patton. You'll never be perfect, but I watch you do everything you can every day. For crying out loud, let that soft animal of 'you' catch a break."
Patton sniffs, letting out a shaking sigh. "Why does hearing all that hurt me?"
"Because you've never heard it before, probably. Has anyone, ever, at all, told you to give yourself a break?"
"I... I guess not, not really. I don't know. I don't feel like I deserve it."
"I say you deserve it. If you won't listen to yourself, listen to me. Listen to a... friend."
Patton nearly physically startles at that word coming from Janus. "Friend?"
"If you make me repeat myself we're never having these visits again, watch it."
"We're friends?" Patton lifts his head, grinning despite his tear streaked face. Janus makes a frustrated noise, his face going red, but he lets Patton hug him nonetheless. Patton laughs, despite it all, holding Janus against his chest. The parts of his heart that were aching feel suddenly wrapped in warmth, like a heating pad on a pained muscle. And as Janus sets aside his drink and properly returns the hug, Patton's heart feels so many things, but mostly, at least for now, it feels at peace.
"Are you going to actually give yourself a rest, or did literally all of that go in one ear and out the other?"
Patton laughs. "Thanks, Janus. Really, thank you. Um. Not going to tell anyone still, right?"
"Of course," Janus places a hand on his heart and holds the other up in a pledge. "We both have trouble verbalizing emotions anyways."
"Can't say I'm surprised! Get it? Can't say?"
"Yes, Patton, I got it," Janus rolls his eyes, but he's smiling. "You know I just hate puns."
"Liar liar!"

ROLEPLAY REQUEST
Au where the sides are human…or are they? (HIDDEN CRYPTIDS AU)
Intruality or moceit
Patton hart, a divorced father with froggy cryptid tendencies and a tadpole (teenage daughter) of his own, has recently moved into the the town of NorthHall. Trying to get used to the town, he meets…
REMUS
…a wild man in alternative attire at the local skatepark he took his daughter to. Who He ran into while moving across the park. He seems a bit…eccentric, and despite his overtly open personality…something seemed fishy about him.
(Octopus cryptid)
JANUS
…A sleek business man with a sharp tongue and even sharper teeth. He met him at the local library as he was looking through the books. Though the man was easy to chat with, he seemed a bit slippery.
(Snake Cryptid)
(I PREFER TO BE PATTON)

A tale: Moceit Au
Patton sat across Janus, his hands laying in his lap, the dirt and grime from living on the streets for years having been scrubbed from his skin, washed from his hair. The servants had to change the water out many times, and it had taken hours to get him to Janus' standards. He was then dressed in commoners clothes, with a necklace with his sigil dangling from the chain. It's the nicest thing Pattons ever been allowed to wear.
"My lord?" Patton murmurs as he eyes Janus' hands, the way he smoothly swiped the feather against his letter. Janus didn't bother to spare him a glance, he merely continued flicking his wrist, writing in beautiful calligraphy.
"Yes fawn?"
Patton hesitated for a moment. "Are the tales of you true?"
Janus pauses finally and sets the feather in the bottle of ink before turning in his chair.
"Yes and no." Janus stands from his seat and moves to grab a chess set. "Humans have twist the tales of my deals to fit their claims. Humans come to me, pleading, just as you had done. Whether it be for wealth or to help a love one. They expect everything but want to give nothing."
Patton frowns.
"I don't understand."
Janus chuckles lowly. "Allow me to tell you a tale then dear fawn."
Janus adjusted a book on the shelf, wiping off a stray piece of dust beginning to collect. "There once was a man, his name was Charles Hickorison. Charles desired a cure for a sickness killing his daughter, Anne. He begged and pleaded at my feet, hands curled just as yours was. I gave him a choice, no fae deal if left without payment after all, and a life to save is a large debt to pay you see. To save his daughter, he must give a life to save a life," Janus muses, grinning at the way Patton gasped. "Who's life it is, well, that was up to him. He chose an elder of the town, and was then hanged for his crime."
Patton swallows hard. "Did...did Anne survive?"
Janus chuckles lowly. "I cured her of her disease, the poor girl was ravaged by wolves a week later."

Space Heater
Fandom: Sander Sides Pairing: Moceit (Janus/Patton) Tags: Fluff, Cuddling, Cold-blooded Janus, Ficlet Summary: Janus can't fall asleep one night due to being freezing from being cold-blooded, and decides to go to his boyfriend Patton for some warm snuggles
Janus buried himself further in his nest of soft weighted blankets, shivering despite how warm he should be. After an hour and a half of futile attempts to feel warm, he reluctantly emerged from his blanket fortress and sat up, shivering. He hugged himself and rubbed his arms trying in vain to warm himself.
He could go to his boyfriend, Patton, but he was almost against it. He could handle a little cold, right? No, no he couldn't, despite how much he tried telling himself he could. He sighed and stood, leaving his room and heading down the hall to Patton's room.
Standing outside Patton's door, Janus hesitated before tentatively knocking, hoping not to disturb Patton's rest. After a few moments and some shuffling behind the door, it opened, revealing Patton looking adorable yet tired in his gray cat onesie. “Oh, hey pumpkin, did you need something?” Patton smiled warmly, stepping aside in case his partner wanted to come inside his room. Janus smiled back tiredly at Patton, taking the offer and walking in.
“Yes, I need my space heater of a boyfriend” He walked over to the bed and sat on the edge of it, the springs creaking under his weight. Patton giggled as he shut the door “Is it too cold?” he asked as he sat next to Janus, who nodded. “Way too cold.” “Well good thing you have me!” Patton smiled and wrapped his arms around Janus, pulling the both of them down so they were laying in bed.
Patton took a moment to pull his incredibly soft blankets on top of them, before looking at Janus “Do you wanna spoon or lay on top of me or just hug?” He held Janus’ hand momentarily while the freezing side thought. “Spoon, please.” He decided, turning over so his back was facing Patton, soon smiling at feeling strong arms wrap around his waist and pull him close.
“Alrighty!” Patton giggled, squeezing Janus briefly, who let out a pleased sigh. “This is much better…” He closed his eyes, finally relaxing as he warmed up. “Wonderful.” Morality smiled softly, lifting a hand to gently play with Janus’ hair. “Baby?” “Hm..?” “I’m happy you came to me when you needed me.” Janus smiled softly, taking Pattons other hand and bringing it to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to his knuckles. “Me too, sunshine…”

Also, bear with me here. I honestly don't do backgrounds partially because they just never seem to line up with how I do the characters. I am also still trying to figure out how to draw sitting poses well~

"Is now a good time to tell you we're dating?"
Ship: Romantic Prinxiety
Warnings: Kissing. I think that's it but as always, please feel free to let me know if there's any I should add!
Word Count: 822
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/56439292
Summary: Just some fluffy Prinxiety I wrote very late at night. Probably a little OOC, but it was like, 4 AM, so shhh. Originally wasn't gonna post it, but my friends really liked it, and one threatened to eat my social security card if I didn't XD
Authors Note: Thank you so so so much to @logan-the-artist and @cats-soups for beta reading this fic!! And thank you guys for your kind words, and also for just like, being fuckin' awesome people!
Virgil awoke missing the warmth Roman provided. They’d spent the night cuddling and watching Disney movies, and Virgil had actually gotten some good sleep. But now his prince was gone. He wasn’t there to kiss the pinch out of Virgil’s browline, and play with his hair.
He wasn’t having it.
He got up to look for his prince, shivering as his feet touched the cold floor. He checked the time. It was ten AM, about two hours before he usually got up. He briefly considered going back to bed, but goddamnit, he missed Roman, and he wanted a kiss.
So he walked out of his room and down the stairs sleepily. He was met with Patton, who was tidying up in the kitchen, humming a happy little tune.
“Oh, hey there, kiddo! You’re up early!”
“Morning, Pat,” Virgil mumbled with a yawn. “Have you seen Roman?”
“He’s in the living room with Janus and Remus,” Patton smiled. “Logan might be in there, too. I’m not sure.”
“Thanks,” Virgil said, offering a sleepy smile as he walked towards the living room.
That was a problem. Roman and Virgil hadn’t told the others they were dating yet. Not for Roman’s lack of trying. He’d been ready to tell the others for a few weeks now, but Virgil insisted they wait just a little longer. He wasn’t sure why. He knew the others wouldn’t care, but that didn’t calm his nerves. Thankfully, Roman was being very patient. He said they’d tell the others when Virgil was ready.
Virgil wasn’t ready to tell the others, per say. He didn’t want to have that awkward conversation just yet. But he was ready to stop hiding. And he really wanted to kiss Roman’s stupid face.
Then it was settled. He’d decided. He was going to kiss Roman’s stupid face in front of everyone. And then, he wouldn’t have to hide the fact that he wanted to kiss his stupid face ever again.
He stepped into the living room. Janus and Remus were listening to Roman talk about a podcast about gay vampires Virgil had gotten him into. He waved his hands wildly with each passionate word.
Virgil loved how passionate he could get. He loved listening to him talk about his interests. And he loved that he got to share this interest with him. He loved how excited he was to share with Janus and Remus, just like Virgil had been with him.
He made eye contact with Roman. The way his expression softened, just enough for Virgil to notice, and no one else. Oh, it had him smitten.
He all but sprinted towards Roman. He stood on his tiptoes, pulling Roman down by the collar of his shirt. He pressed his lips to Roman’s, his heart pounding in the way it always did when they kissed.
He could feel Roman’s initial surprise fade into contentment, if the way he smiled against his lips was anything to go by. Virgil smiled too, as Roman wrapped his arms around his back, warm and gentle.
He could feel Janus’ and Remus’ eyes on him and Roman, but oddly enough, he didn’t quite care. All he really cared about right now was the lips under his, and the man they belonged to. They were addictive.
He wanted to remain ensnared by Roman’s mouth, but figured he should probably let the taller man return to his conversation. So he leaned against Roman’s chest with a content hum, enjoying his warmth for half a second before looking up at him. A smirk grew on the prince’s face, his eyes alight with mischief, trained on something behind Virgil.
He turned around, seeing Janus’ and Remus’ mouths agape, shock plastered on their faces, as well as Patton’s, who had emerged from where Virgil did just a moment ago.
Roman burst into bright laughter that made Virgil’s chest warm. “Is now a good time to tell you we’re dating?”
The other three just gaped at them for a moment longer, not saying anything even as Logan walked in, his brows furrowed in confusion at the scene.
“Would anyone like to explain why we’re staring at Roman and Virgil?” He asked.
Janus just sputtered for a moment, before giving up. Remus took this as an opportunity.
“I- you- Virgil is dating my brother?”
“You didn’t know?” Logan asked, and Virgil shot him a look.
“You knew?”
“I may be trash at social cues, Virgil, but even I have picked up on the smirks you two share during dinner and movie nights,” Logan deadpanned. “And, my room is right next to yours. You two keep me up all night talking. You aren't exactly quiet.”
Virgil winced lightly. “Sorry about that.”
“That's quite alright. It’s well worth it.” Logan smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling softly. “You two have seemed far happier than I've ever seen you. I'm glad.”
“Aw, thanks, Lo.” Virgil elbowed Logan softly.
“Of course.”
