I’m a person who’s under the opinion that prison sentences ought to be rare and utilitarian. That is, I think they ought to be reserved for people that are a legitimate danger to the general public. Which is a very rare type of criminal. The vast majority of people in jail should not be in jail in my opinion. Some other punishment should have happened or what they did shouldn’t be a crime in the first place.

In releasing January 6th rioters however, Drump has pardoned several of the types of people I think that prison sentences ought to actually apply to. There’s people who have been turned in by neighbors and family members who have said on record with full seriousness that they want to kill the people that turned them in.

I saw an interview of the son of one of the January 6th rioters who turned his father in who said that his father has threatened to kill him multiple times. There is now no truly safe place in the world for that young man.

They’ve also released a couple of leaders of far right militias. These are legitimately dangerous people. And whether you believe prisons should exist or not, I think we can agree that something ought to be done to protect these people. But nothing will be done. Nothing at all. Because a pardon just wipes the crime from the record. Normal rules do not apply.

I wish I could say it was worse than I thought, but you know it was everything I thought it'd be

withdrawing from the Paris Climate agreement and the World Health Organization, orders attacking birth right citizenship and making transphobia the policy of the whole federal government, and pardoning all of, ALL of the January 6th rioters

yes we're off to a great start here in Trump's America folks....

any ways stay focused gang, don't waste your effort, your energy or your time. If you're at a protest and no one is registering people to vote or signing them up to volunteer working in elections, it's waste. If you have money to give, please give wisely to organizations with track records of doing work, not just random insta accounts that look cool? 2017-2021 was over run by left-ish grifters who stole people's money and spent in on themselves, Shaun King, don't let 2025-2029 be the same thing all over where we waste millions of dollars we need spent helping support the MANY court cases against Trump and is train wreck of fascist fuckers.

I'm not a Christian but the Bible has a line which is REALLY popular with black church goers and I'll quote it

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

BREAKING: Donald Trump has a nuclear meltdown after Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation report is released — revealing that the evidence was "sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction" if the trial had gone to court.

This is a bombshell of historic proportions...

"The department’s view that the Constitution prohibits the continued indictment and prosecution of a president is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the government’s proof or the merits of the prosecution, which the office stands fully behind," Smith wrote.

"Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial," he went on.

The 137-page report was delivered by the Justice Department to Congress shortly after midnight on Tuesday and the contents are utterly damning.

The document tears into Trump for attempting to undermine and destroy our democracy by reversing the 2020 election and for repeatedly encouraging "violence against his perceived opponents" in the weeks leading up to January 6th.

Smith wrote that Trump was clearly to blame for the Capitol insurrection and pointed to the fact that numerous convicted rioters testified that they believed they were carrying out Trump's wishes.

The report was the result of an exhaustive investigation and included interviews with over 250 people as well as grand jury testimony from over 55 witnesses.

Smith strongly suggested prosecution in the report, citing Trump's "unprecedented criminal effort to overturn the legitimate results of the election in order to retain power."

Trump lashed out at Smith over the report in trademark fashion with a frantic Truth Social post—

"Deranged Jack Smith was unable to successfully prosecute the Political Opponent of his 'boss,' Crooked Joe Biden, so he ends up writing yet another 'Report' based on information that the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs ILLEGALLY DESTROYED AND DELETED, because it showed how totally innocent I was, and how completely guilty Nancy Pelosi, and others, were," Trump wrote, lobbing some of his usual baseless lies.

"Jack is a lamebrain prosecutor who was unable to get his case tried before the Election, which I won in a landslide. THE VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN!!!" he added.

The truth is that Trump knows that he's guilty and that history will judge him accordingly. He may be in the White House for a few years, but he'll be a felon forever...

Four years ago today, thousands of rioters, incited by Donald Trump, violently stormed the Capitol in an effort to overturn the results of a democratic election.

This is because they hate democracy, the United States, and dissenting views. Don't let them forget what they are and what they did. They committed a violent, deadly autocoup attempt in flagrant violation of the United States Constitution they claim to love. Donald Trump betrayed his oath of office and for the first time in the history of the United States of America, we didn't have a peaceful transition of power.

Don't let them live it down. Don't let them erase it. On January 6th, 2021, they let their mask down and people died.

What began as a strained attempt to absolve Mr. Trump of responsibility for Jan. 6 gradually took hold, as his allies in Congress and the media played down the attack and redirected blame to left-wing plants, Democrats and even the government. Violent rioters — prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned — somehow became patriotic martyrs. [...] But with his return to office, Mr. Trump now has the platform to further rinse and spin the Capitol attack into what he has called “a day of love.” He has vowed to pardon rioters in the first hour of his new administration, while his congressional supporters are pushing for criminal charges against those who investigated his actions on that chaotic day.

Trump and the GOP have worked hard to rewrite what we all witnessed with our own eyes. In order to exonerate Trump, they have lied, spread half-truths, or taken isolated bits of information out of context. But the facts do NOT support the GOP's disinformation campaign.

We must never forget what happened.

We must remember the calls to "Bring out Pence!" and "Hang Mike Pence!" after the mob erected a gallows.

We must remember that Trump further incited the anger of the rioters (after the mob entered the Capitol) with a tweet accusing Pence of lacking “courage.”*

We must remember that about 60 seconds after Trump tweeted about Pence, rioters entered the Crypt, just underneath the floor where Pence and his family were hiding. The mob was eventually only about 40 feet away from Pence.

We must remember that what happened next for Pence and his family was hours of fear.

We must remember that many of the insurrectionists were armed.

A "Mother Jones" investigation of public video footage and documents from dozens of federal criminal investigations reveals various trump supporters who went to the capitol that day armed for battle.

Not only with hockey sticks flagpoles, baseball bats, and bear spray, but also with tasers, knives, and guns.

Finally, we must remember that despite advisors' pleas, Trump did nothing to stop what was happening for quite some time--because he thought that Mike Pence, quote, "deserves it."

LIZ CHENEY (June 9, 2022): You will hear testimony that, quote, “the president did not really want to put anything out” calling off the riot or asking his supporters to leave. You will hear that President Trump was yelling and, quote, “really angry” at advisers who told him he needed to be doing something more. And, aware of the rioters' chants to “hang Mike Pence,” the president responded with this sentiment: quote, “Maybe our supporters have the right idea,” Mike Pence, quote, “deserves it."

To me it's SURREAL that Trump and the GOP have succeeded in convincing millions of Americans that their alternate reality version of Jan. 6th was true--and that Trump might have the power as president to actually turn his alternative reality version into "history."
