Lords Vote
On: Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations 2024
Baroness Stedman-Scott moved that this House regrets (1) that the Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations 2024 (SI 2024/869), laid before the House on 22 August, will leave pensioners worse off in winter; (2) the decision to prioritise above-inflation pay rises for unionised public sector professionals over the needs of the elderly, including many households that are eligible for Pension Credit but do not claim it; and (3) the lack of transparency on these policy decisions during the election period. The House divided:
Ayes: 164 (87.8% Con, 4.9% XB, 3.0% DUP, 2.4% , 1.2% UUP, 0.6% Green) Noes: 132 (92.4% Lab, 6.1% XB, 0.8% , 0.8% Bshp) Absent: ~535

"TO SERVE 18 MONTHS FOR TEN BREAK-INS," Toronto Star. March 22, 1934. Page 26. --- Six Months Each to Pair for Receiving --- Brampton, March 22. - Thomas Beverly Brown, Port Credit, was sentenced to 18 months determinate and 12 months indeterminate in the Ontario reformatory by Magistrate Bull yesterday on ten counts of theft and house breaking in the south end of Peel county.
Edgar Bulman, Toronto, and Robert Brown, Port Credit, were found guilty on charges of receiving and sentenced to six months determinate and six months indeterminate.
Mrs. Gordon Brown, Port Credit, in her evidence, identified Bulman as the man who had called at her home, where Thomas Brown roomed, and taken him away in his car. This nocturnal motor trip tallied closely with the robbery at Charlie Falconer's Streetsville store. Mrs. Brown also swore that she had seen goods in Brown's room which had latter been identified by Mr. Falconer as his property.
Breeders' Conduct Banquet A large number attended the Peel Holstein Breeders' Association annual banquet last night. Dr. G. I. Christie, O.A.C., Guelph, was guest speaker.
At the concluding euchre last night of the Oddfellows' Hall Association, Mrs. Emerson Baldock. Mount Charles, won the grand prize for the series of three games. Harold Holbrook, Brampton, was second.
James Duncan, 62, Dies James Duncan, lifelong resident of Peel, died in the Peel Memorial hospital in his 63rd year. He was a member of Ebenezer United church and a Liberal. His wife predeceased him a year ago. Three sons, one daughter, two brothers and four sisters survive.

Pet peeve is when you look up a list of cities in Ontario by population or average income and it's like 1 toronto 2 scarboro 3 Mississauga 4 Oakville 5 Brampton. Like that's not just toronto. Ontario has like 5 cities idgaf what anybody says. From west to east: thunder bay (encapsulates north Ontario,) Windsor (I'm legitimately really sorry if you live here, move soon) toronto (the only reason Ontario deserves to exist) Kingston (for old people) and ottawa (allegedly important on paper but idk). Anything else and you should either live up near st james bay cause you don't like people or one of the listed cities. Basically fuck Mississauga

New documents reveal how a Brampton man conducted his operation and the steep prices he charged. U.S. authorities say Simranjit “Shally” Singh, a 40-year-old Indian citizen, conspired to move people over the border from Cornwall Island through Akwesasne Mohawk territory, which touches New York, Ontario and Quebec and straddles the St. Lawrence River.
On Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty to charges related to human smuggling in a federal U.S. court. “Singh has successfully moved illegal aliens northbound into Canada and southbound into the United States using the geographic vulnerabilities of the AMIR [Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation]. Singh has been living in Canada illegally and has been able to elude law enforcement detection,” according to a request for provision arrest filed in a Brampton court by the U.S. Office.
It was the territory where two families died apparently trying to cross St. Lawrence recently, though authorities have not said there is any connection between the cases.
The accusations against Singh offer a rare look at how authorities say human smuggling networks operate and the steep prices they charge.
Some migrants told American law enforcement Singh charged between $5,000 and $35,000, the documents suggest, describing four “smuggling events.
In one event in March 2020, a person “CW-1” dropped three Indian citizens at the Great View Motel in New York, according to a request for provisional arrest filed in Brampton.
“I’m dropping them off at a safe space,” CW-1 crossed the river,” Singh responded. “Yes,” CW-1 replied. A video reveals CW-1’s car at the motel the three off.
Then, “CW-1 travelled to Cornwall to meet Singh, bring him bottles of liquor, and collect $4,000, which represented CW-1’s pay,” the request says.
But CW-1 was concerned the hotel had been rented in her name, and she returned to pick up the migrants. Border Patrol Agents saw her leaving the hotel and arrested all four in Fort Covington, New York.
In another case in March 2021, using the Akwesasne territory as a corridor, one migrant told law enforcement that “Singh bragged about smuggling over one thousand people and that CW-3 had nothing to worry about.”
Singh lost a refugee claim in Canada but couldn’t be deported without an Indian passport. His lawyers declined to comment to CTV News. Singh did not fight the extradition, though observers say fighting extradition to the U.S. can often be a tough battle.
“The bar is low. Even if a person is extradited, that doesn’t mean guilty. It just means that the requesting state has managed to meet that hurdle,” extradition lawyer James Bray told CTV News.
Singh was indicted in 2022 and was extradited to the U.S. last week. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement.
U.S. President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to a deal with asylum seekers coming to Canada through unofficial border crossings, a move critics said could mean refugees and migrants will take more risks when crossing.
Increased scrutiny at the border will drive more desperate people into expensive and risky schemes like the one Singh is accused of orchestrating, said Chris Ramsaroop of Justicia for Migrant Workers.
“We’re going to see more people put into perilous conditions,” he said. “These are strong deterrent measures that have a tremendous impact on the most vulnerable people,” Ramsaroop said.

Hey bestie, RM defeated Barca in La Liga and Copa del Rey 11:1, 8:2 as well 😭 wtf was going on then, teams used pull such big numbers?! It still happens from time to time, but it seemed much more common in the 40s/50s. Bayern is on some hard shit for sure, they got the power. It's funny that Borussia can defeat Bayern, but they're still less known and don't do as well overall.
Zidane should have never left RM, man got us 3 CL wins!!!
I didn't expect the PSG x Al Nassr to go easy, but from what I've seen it was definitely personal 👁👁
I saw the Chelsea news, they need to do something because TEN PLACE in the Premier League??? And Liverpool 8? I told you, this is alternate reality, because Arsenal 1, Newcastle 3. Juve 10 in A Serie now 🙉
Also can I just say him and Busquets and then Pique were always my least favourite Barca players, but I didn't expect THIS
I don't know if I'll be able to feel bad for Charles, but I can understand that he and Harry are very different people who show emotions differently.
Honestly, SM sent Kai to weird Euro festivals, Exo and Taemin were in Berlin once, Shinee were in London. I heard NCT's concerts aren't selling as well as predicted, because of the prices. A whole mess. SuperM sold some of the questionable songs to me, idk why GOT isn't doing it. Tbh I understand BoA's disappointment and I'm pretty sure SM's shitty promo is part of the problem, but also consider this... the song and the MV sucks odhshwhrjabshsgahsvaha. Not her fault ofc, but yeah. Much ado about nothing
Oh you started iiiit, the beginning is a frustrating rideeeee. Eunhyuk is so sweet, but I hope he tells her soon. There were subtle hints from the beginning, him only having one earplug on and "ignoring" her (boy just couldn't hear 💔), in one chapter they were listening to heavy metal and he went "it's relaxing" and girlie went "????" 😭
Yes VHS (ancient times), I used to watch the first two HP movies religiously as a child! Ah yes Oppenheimer's cast! Miss Flo, Emily, Rami too... omg I totally forgot about that Adeline movie, but I watched it yes! I also liked Michiel in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society with Lily James
One thing you need to know is that snakes aren't slimy, the texture of their skin depends on the species, it's soft and glossy, but a bit rough if the skin is more scale-like, it's honestly hard to explain. When I volunteered in Australia I had this corn snake friend who would wrap himself around my leg
That's what I've been saying, Pique was always an asshole and it's not just me being petty (well that too skshsjhdjsjsks), I never understood why Shakira got with him. 12 years??? Glad they didn't marry
Omg when CB called Ailee a cornball? But tbh I find it hard to believe Ailee didn't know about him, I remember seeing something about it 🙄
Yes, Baek, it's the colonialism <3 I always hated when I searched London and it showed me Canada?! The colonisers just plagiarised the names and called it a day. Googled Brampton and got whiplash lol
Can Hwa be my uncle and give me money 🤲🏻
Omg that Sehun tweet is my man Doyun! From the webtoon I ranted to you about, because it has an unnecessary love triangle and 3728 misunderstandings
Hoshi getting a sugar d*dd* lol, work I guess
Ohhh that Yeo art. We'll never see such long hair on him HA HA HA (pain)
Hwa usually looks soft barefaced, but he looked like such a bitch that day lmaooooo, yes bad boy. And That's why he is serving every time, he gets the best selection of clothes! - DV 💖
hello!!

im not HEARING ANY OF IT BFBDBD YOO UR RIGHT,, what was going on in the 40’s-80’s like 18-6’s and 10-0’s????? maybe the fields were smaller but damn, how easy was it back in the day 😭😭 bayern are monsters, im convinced they do some pogba witchcraft before matches bc how tf???? no yeah, borussia the only one who can defeat them properly yet we are blind when it comes to that club <3 rightfully so tbh <3
Zidane should have never left RM, man got us 3 CL wins!!! /// I didn't expect the PSG x Al Nassr to go easy, but from what I've seen it was definitely personal 👁👁
im seeing ancelotti being scouted by brazilian national team, which if he agrees (def won’t) would mean zidane rm 2.0 aND THEN HE CAN DO HIS MAGIC,, but apparently zidane might go psg, tbh he should, he can keep psg’s main ego in check,,, him messi and ney would actually be mAD
so personal that bro got punched by his own ex teammate 😭😭😭 i loved every bit of pettiness in it <3 the way psg we’re not even serious and roaming around and cr7 was playing like it’s his last fhwndhsj the biggest surprise / shock was the bollywood meet and greet so random???
I saw the Chelsea news, they need to do something because TEN PLACE in the Premier League??? And Liverpool 8? I told you, this is alternate reality, because Arsenal 1, Newcastle 3. Juve 10 in A Serie now 🙉
FBWKFBWKJCJCJC ITS SO EMBARRASSING LIKE WHAT WENT WRONG 😭😭😭 need chelsea to pick it up or pACK IT UP, arsenal and man city’s match is gonna be nuts,,, haaland v saka??? want arsenal to lose on purpose fbwkhfkw
Also can I just say him and Busquets and then Pique were always my least favourite Barca players, but I didn't expect THIS
NAH LITERALLY always had certain vibes from him, tho a great player,, the vibes were off maybe bc his eyes have this very naughty cleverish stare and was kind of unsettling AND NOW THIS IS MESSED,, the victim also refused whatever money he tried to pay her off with + he changed his testimony like 3 times and hers stayed the same,,, video evidence of club too apparently jail deserved,, hoping busquet’s leaves this summer
I don't know if I'll be able to feel bad for Charles, but I can understand that he and Harry are very different people who show emotions differently.
yeaaahh it’s tbh kinda annoying to hear him say crap about charles when bro did his best to be the best father to him, worked for will why not harry 😭😭😭my kid saying that to me, id be fuRIOUS
Honestly, SM sent Kai to weird Euro festivals, Exo and Taemin were in Berlin once, Shinee were in London. I heard NCT's concerts aren't selling as well as predicted, because of the prices. YEAH !!! YEAH !!! i think the most sm sent their groups FULLY outside was during like 2014-2015 era,, also bc sm was innovative at that time w music and music videos + promo,, sucks to see how they’ve become now,,, did not know about the nct thing! damn their seats are $$$$ and i thought blackpink’s were the expensive-est damn that much money for what 😭😭😭 (bp’s contract renewal is so funny bc why is it like football transfer contracts 😭😭)
i also think the way they have GOT promo kinda made their hype go down,, esp the sm town concert where they dropped the full stage performance before the mv + song’s release and the somewhat of a hype it was died down VERY QUICKLY,,, at least superm had a chemistry to show even if they were completely diff,, their song cohesion is nice unlike the gUGUGUGUGUGUGU yEAH the song is a no no, the mv looks like snsd’s you think mv but yassified 😭😭
Oh you started iiiit, the beginning is a frustrating rideeeee. Eunhyuk is so sweet, but I hope he tells her soon. The Art of Borrowed Scenery
Can we still enjoy our private gardens—our places and practices of retreat, beauty and joy—while people suffer and the world burns? #spirituality
A medieval hortus conclusus: The Little Garden of Paradise, Upper Rhenish Master (c. 1410). Outside, the mountains have been drawn into the garden, becoming a part of it. Aritomo was a master of shakkei, the art of Borrowed Scenery, taking elements and views from outside a garden and making them integral to his creation. — Tan Twan Eng , The Garden of Evening Mists [i] The Rev. Not All Hockeys Are From Toronto
Just your friendly Ontarian here, speaking up out of (likely misplaced and totally silly but whatever) frustration.
This was meant to just be a post clarifying where some hockeys are from and turned into like a really weird half-assed primer? I’m bored, sue me.
Context: Being from Ontario and getting my feet wet for the first time in Hockey Fandom as opposed to just being totally inundated in Hockey Culture my entire life has been strange for a number of reasons. First, because people outside of Canada don’t GET Canada. And second, growing up in Ontario means you have connections to NHL players. You just do. And it’s really weird for me to see stuff about the young hockeys who I have connections to because I literally know their families or friends or former teammates, etc. So I’ve been doing my best to stay in my hockeys-I-don’t-know-from-a-hole-in-the-ground-lane and zoom past all other content.
Problem: But what I haven’t been able to avoid noticing and what I CAN NO LONGER TOLERATE DAMMIT is that to everyone who ISN’T FROM CANADA, apparently the ONLY PLACE IN ONTARIO IS TORONTO.
Look. Your favourite hockey may go spend time in Toronto in the summer. He may even now have a condo there. BUT. If he’s from Ontario, he probably spends the majority of his time either in his ACTUAL HOMETOWN or more likely in cottage country aka the Great Lakes/Kawartha Lakes/Muskoka Lakes/Rideau Lakes. (This split is usually Toronto & central goes to Kawarthas (less expensive)/Muskokas (more expensive), Ottawa area goes to Rideau Lakes, and southern Ontario west of Toronto goes to the Great Lakes because they’re boxed in by Ontario, Erie, and Huron.)
Some examples of Ontario hockeys Not From Toronto include:
Tyler Seguin - from Brampton/Whitby. Not Toronto. Went to school in Toronto for a few years, yes. Brampton and Whitby are considered “GTA” or Greater Toronto Area. But we’ve all heard the story of him having to travel 2 hours each way to get to school, right? (Sidenote: St Mike’s was in a LOAD of hot water a few years ago over hazing/rape/toxic masculinity culture. So there’s a bit of context for that messed up hockey culture we’ve all been talking about re: Br*nd*n L**ps*c, and why Young Tyler -- and even older Tyler ymmv -- likely Was/Is The Way He Was/Is).
Brent Burns - from Ajax which is next door to... James Neal - from Whitby. See sidenote below.
(Food sidenote: Whitby/Ajax/Pickering, which are all in a row and are basically the same place, offer fantastic Indian food and therefore I approve of this area.)
Mitch Marner - from Markham/Thornhill. Both Not Toronto. Again, Markham and Thornhill are GTA. If you were to map it RIGHT NOW when there’s no traffic, they’re like half hour drives to downtown Toronto, but on a regular traffic day? *laughs* Good luck.
Connor McDavid - Gonna throw him in here with Marner. Richmond Hill is also GTA but north of Thornhill. People from Richmond Hill say they’re from Toronto. They’re from York Region.
Vince Dunn (who everyone suddenly seems obsessed with) - from LINDSAY which ISN’T EVEN GTA. Lindsay is a small ass town in cottage country that nobody has ever heard of except as the place where people stop for groceries on the way to the cottage and/or for Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream because that shit is LEGENDARY. (Sidenote: get Moose Tracks, you won’t regret it. Also, technically KD is in Bobcaygeon which is a 20 minute drive and the subject of the Tragically Hip song. The more you know.) He played in Peterborough (also not GTA) and Thorold (which is essentially St Catharines and is just 20 minutes from Niagara Falls / not far from Buffalo NY). NONE OF THESE PLACES IS GTA LET ALONE TORONTO.
Corey Perry - Gonna throw him in here with Dunn because he is from Peterborough and played there, too. What can I share about Ptbo? Let’s just say that nobody is surprised that he’s from there. He’s on my team but I know that everyone whose team he isn’t on hates him.
Matt Duchene - Gonna throw him in here with Dunn because he’s from literal cottage country. Like Haliburton IS where people go to cottage. They stop in Lindsay for groceries and drive another hour and fifteen minutes to the forest. It’s called the Highlands and they have Highland Games like we’re in Scotland or something and the roads up there are hemmed by trecherous rock faces weaving through lakes and forest and The Great Canadian Shield (dense fucking rock). It’s beautiful and peaceful. In the winter it’s a ghost town up there.
Travis Konecny - from Clachan which isn’t even London which is NOT GTA. London is like halfway between Toronto and Windsor (across the border from Detroit) in southern Ontario. It’s a two. hour. drive. with NO traffic. TK played in OTTAWA which is like FOUR HOURS from Toronto in the OTHER DIRECTION and SARNIA which is even FARTHER from Toronto than London is on the border of Michigan. (Sidenote: If you want to avoid long waits at the Buffalo or Windsor borders, go through Sarnia. The border guards are super friendly -- read: happy to see humans -- and will direct you down the road to the nearest Tim Horton’s if you ask nicely.)
(Canadian Culture sidenote: Letterkenny is a fantastic show based on and written by a guy from Listowel, Ontario. Listowel is like 2 hours from Clachan but all of southern Ontario on either side of London is just small villages spotted throughout farm country -- as many of you have probably seen in TK’s summer video -- and if you want an idea of why he is/talks That Way and if you just want to experience joy, you should watch it. If you ever come visit in the summer, stop in Stratford. It’s known as Justin Beiber’s hometown but it’s a theatre town that hosts an annual Shakespearean-centric theatre festival. *_*)
Claude Giroux - is French and yet is actually from Ontario, not Quebec, because northern Ontario is super French. And northern Ontario? Is not the Muskokas. We’ll say shit like “We’re heading up north this weekend” to mean “the cottage” but when we say “northern Ontario” we mean “Way the hell up in the frozen tundra where only brave souls dare tread”. It is a TEN HOUR DRIVE to Toronto without traffic. That is longer than it takes to drive from London, England to Edinburgh, Scotland which I have DONE and which SUCKS. Hearst is even more north than Winnipeg. You know that video of Jonathan Toews swimming in a hole in the ice in APRIL and saying he’s in Kenora, Ontario? Kenora is MORE SOUTH than Hearst. It’s cold as up there. I checked and with the windchill it was -36C in Hearst on Valentine’s Day. fuck that.
Mark Scheifele & Tanner Pearson - Kitchener/Waterloo. One hour from Toronto and yet Not GTA. Super German area. Has the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany (no, really). KW is a very techy area and they slingshotted themselves into the future so all their roads are roundabouts and my mother is incapable of driving there without screaming in terror as she nearly kills everyone and they all honk angrily at her. (Food sidenote: You cannot find good Indian food in Kitchener. Trust me, I’ve tried. The people there think sauerkraut is spicy so all the international cuisine has really dialed it back in response and it makes me very sad.)
John Tavares & Jason Spezza - Mississauga. Not Toronto but kind of like a step-sibling? Quieter. More suburban. Not too bad, really. Close enough to Toronto and where all the Leafs seem to live (the west end) that it makes sense for them to say they wanted to “come home” to Toronto. Also, this is where Pearson International Airport is.
Hockeys Literally From Toronto who I can think of right now: Wayne Simmonds, PK Subban (both from Scarborough, one of the six main Toronto boroughs referred to in Drake’s “the 6ix” thing), Chris Stewart, Trevor Daly, Tom Wilson, Zach Hyman, Jamie Oleksiak, Brandon Tanev, etc etc etc
Last sidenote: The west coast is different. Victoria, BC produces great hockeys and I commend them for their noble work. (Looking at you, oh Captain, my Captain.)
ETA: If you have questions about specific areas or Canadian culture for fic writing or something, feel free to ask! :)

LK 102: The Sulfa Intolerable Acts
(pt1) (pt2) (pt3) (pt4)
Tumblr media
Why the fuck does Lt Brampton have such a vendetta against these kids.
Tumblr media
OMFG GET A ROOM YOU TWO also goddamn does that 14/15 year old have the proportions of a dorito.
Tumblr media
Ah yes, the moment the Chaos Boi opens up and shows even more how much he is a Softboi. 11 year old me did not stand a chance.
Tumblr media
oh my GOD THIS GUY HAS SUCH GOOD EQUITATION???
Tumblr media
LOL nevermind
Tumblr media
Ok but why is this scene going so hard. You can see the shadow where the dude's hand crosses into the light shaft. This is screaming for a redraw.
Tumblr media
OH GOD BB JAMES
Tumblr media
James watch out ya girl is *catching feelings*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sorry this scene just about killed me as an 11 year old and its killing me now as a 31 year old.
Tumblr media
why are his fingees so elegant. Also the animators tried REALLY hard in this frame. His proportions and anatomy aren't wonky, the foreshortening looks correct, they detailed his fucking nose, his fucking pupils are pointed in the same direction and also look like they're focusing on her, the way one ear sticks out because his head is cocked a little (even when he's being sweet he's sassy,) the way his hair is asymmetrical in a way which makes sense to gravity. The expression matches the voice acting!!
Tumblr media
They even tried really hard in these sets of frames, too. So did the voice actor tbh.
But also OH GOD THE EMPATHY. She feels like shit for complaining about a piece of jewelry, especially to someone she's roasted before about being uncouth and uncivilized, but instead of calling her shallow like she probably expects, James instead, very gently and softly, shares that he also has a piece of jewelry he wears to remind him of lost family and shows that despite them having such different backgrounds they're really not all that different.
AND THE FUCKING HARP FLOURISH AT THE END??? How THE FUCK is this not setting everything up for the two of them to get together????
Tumblr media
I don't know why the way they animated James here kills me but it killed me back then, too. Maybe its the confidence? Maybe its still the rush from witnessing a soft moment between two people catching feels for each other??
Tumblr media
Lady Phillips I understand the situation is really tense for the Frillips Polycule but you are going to lose oxygen by constantly gasping for breath like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your honor he's tearing this ethically non-monogamous family apart!
Tumblr media
awww shit the Bard with 20 Charisma's about to roll with advantage
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CC is wrong, he said "I Thank Mr. Wedderburn for everything he has said against me." but OH MY GOD THE DRAMA, the guy looks like in the moment he's realized what he's done, but then the pain of whatever drama went on in their relationship clouds him over once more and he is swallowed whole by a mad thirst for revenge.
Tumblr media
They're both just like "BITCH WHAT IS YOU DOING"
Tumblr media
"My country is America" These two are so overjoyed and relieved, but like, clearly what Benji Franx is saying can be construed so hard as Genuine Treason, so him arguing that he isn't a British Subject because the Vibes Of It All logically wouldn't hold much water in that court, so why are they relieved/overjoyed? Is Lady Phillips secretly a Whig and totally supportive of American Independence? Honestly I think she is. She wants to see the system overhauled and burnt to the ground.
Tumblr media
Donkey Kong Country
Tumblr media
This fucking madlad. The confidence of knowing how to make a getaway in a cask makes me think he's done this before.
Tumblr media
How are they still conscious.
Tumblr media
yeah girl, take command!
Tumblr media
"y'all bitches FUCKIN' LEFT ME HERE???"
Tumblr media
Lt. Brampton is so fucking smarmy.
Tumblr media
fuckin raycisssts
Tumblr media
Moses about to cry and tbh so would I
To be continued

“2 MEN BREAK JAIL AT SIMCOE,” The Globe and Mail. March 18, 1943. Page 13. ---- Leave by Window While Waiting Burwash Trip ---- Simcoe, March 17 (Special). - Seen by Turnkey James Bull only two minutes previously, two prisoners made a successful getaway from the Norfolk County jail about 3 o'clock this afternoon. The men made their escape by climbing out of a basement window to the street.
The men, both of whom were awaiting transfer to Burwash Industrial Farm to serve terms for theft, had been wheeling coal from a section of the basement to the furnace room prior to their escape. Turnkey Bull immediately notified Chief of Police George Ashby, who in turn notified Provincial Police of surrounding towns to be on the lookout for the escaped pair.
Both men were sentenced in local police court last Thursday to terms In Burwash. Adam Buchan, 23. of Sioux Lookout, recently stationed at No. 25 C.A.B.T.C, received a term of one year definite and six months indefinite on a charge of stealing $95 from Leo Shortell of Brampton. His previous record also included jail breaking.
The other escaped prisoner, Seraphin Houle, 22, of Sudbury, also stationed at No. 25 C.A.B.T.C. prior to his discharge from the army, was sentenced to six months definite and three months Indefinite on a charge of taking a car without the owner's consent.

Where the NDP could win:
…and hence where you should absolutely vote NDP and not fear ‘vote splitting’ or ‘handing the election to the Conservatives.’ Ridings where the NDP are incumbent but behind have to be considered at least plausible.
(working from this great breakdown from @Historian_Matt on twitter, using projections (not polls) from 338 and riding history from wikipedia)
Newfoundland & Labrador - swept by LPC, time to take it back. St. John’s East: won by Jack Harris in ‘08 &’11, Harris is running again. Two way race between NDP & LPC on 338. St. John’s South—Mount Pearl: won by Ryan Cleary in ‘11, 338 doesn’t like the odds. Nova Scotia - Some lost territory to regain, CPC not a huge factor. Dartmouth–Cole Harbour: won by Robert Chisholm in ‘11, Emma Norton is an ‘Our Time’ endorsed environmental activist.    Halifax: won by the excellent Megan Leslie in’08 and ‘11, previously won by former leader Alexa McDonough, this is a two-way race and this should be an NDP riding. Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook: won by (the now-disgraced) Peter Stoffer in six consecutive elections, currently a three-way race.  New Brunswick - Acadians rise up. Acadie—Bathurst: won by Yvon Godin six times between ‘97 and ‘15, two-way race against incumbent LPC Serge Cormier. Quebec - NDP not looking good, but the CPC is even lower most places. Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou: Enormous Northern riding held by the retiring Romeo Saganash. 338 has this split between the Bloc and LPC, but with the NDP not far behind. The Tories are a non-factor.
Abitibi—Témiscamingue: Currently held by retiring Christine Moore, another tight one between LPC/BQ/NDP.  Beloeil—Chambly: Currently held by Matthew Dubé, the last-standing member of the McGill 5. 338 has him well behind the LPC and BQ. Berthier—Maskinongé: Currently held by Ruth Ellen Brosseau (the notorious REB) and one of the few Quebec ridings that the NDP can be said to be leading in. It would be ludicrous to vote Liberal here, it’s REB or the Bloc. Drummond: Currently held by Francois Choquette, 338′s breakdown somehow puts him 4th. Hochelaga: Currently held by retiring Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, now allegedly a LPC/Bloc battleground. Fuck ‘em both, vote NDP. Jonquière: Currently held by Karine Trudel, who, like Choquette in Drummond, is improbably in 4th.                  Laurier—Sainte-Marie: The site of the retiring Hélène Laverdière defeating Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe, and a Quebec riding where the NDP are second to the LPC. Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques: Leadership candidate Guy Caron’s riding, which he won in ‘11 and ‘15. 338 has him behind the Bloc and LPC. Sucks to that. Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie: NDP Deputy Leader Alexandre Boulerice isn’t going anywhere. Currently ahead.   Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot: Currently held by Brigitte Sansoucy. Salaberry—Suroît: Held by the retiring Anne Minh-Thu Quach. Sherbrooke: Pierre-Luc Dusseault is now 28 years old after two full terms in office, unfortunately Sherbrooke is yet another Quebec riding now being contested between the Bloc and LPC. Trois-Rivières: Another of the 2011 pickups that weathered 2015, incumbent Robert Aubin being given a disrespectful 8.9% on 338. Ontario - Big yikes of a province, but traditional ridings could hold. Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing: Carol Hughes has represented this rural riding since 2008, currently polling well. Brampton East: Raj Grewal left the LPC amid a particularly spicy investigation into his gambling debts. Canada’s only majority South Asian riding, its provincial analogue is held by Jagmeet’s brother. 338 lists it as safe LPC even so. Beaches—East York: NDP has been a strong performer in this riding and held it in the past, it’s a two-way race between them and LPC. Davenport: Won by Andrew Cash in 2011, he’s back and trailing slightly. Essex: Tracey Ramsey won this riding in 2015, this is a rare NDP/CPC race and Tracey’s leading but she needs your vote. Hamilton Centre: The retiring David Christopherson is the only MP this riding has known (created in 2004,) Our Time is endorsing his replacement, Matthew Green. He’s leading, according to 338. Hamilton East—Stoney Creek: Previously held by Wayne Marston from ‘06 to ‘15, and a race between the LPC and NDP. Hamilton Mountain: Historically always a LPC/NDP battleground, currently an orange seat for Scott Duvall. London—Fanshawe: I don’t generally approve of dynastic politics, but the retiring Irene Mathyssen’s daughter Lindsay is vying to replace her in London and is currently ahead of the LPC. Niagara Centre: Malcolm Allen won this riding in ‘08 and ‘11 and is trying to avenge his 2015 defeat in what now looks like a three-way race. Nickel Belt: Traded between LPC and NDP for decades, singer-songwriter Stef Paquette is in yet another close race. Oshawa: Not sure I agree with the detective work on this one. Yes, Ed Broadbent used to rep Oshawa. Literally thirty years ago. Candidate seems like a good one though. Ottawa Centre: Also repped by Ed and the late, great Paul Dewar. Currently held by the duplicitous Catherine McKenna, the NDP are polling 2nd in this used-to-be stronghold. Parkdale—High Park: Once the riding of powerhouse Peggy Nash, another two-way race. Check out Paul Taylor’s specs.   Sault Ste. Marie: Strong NDP results historically, held by Tony Martin among others. NDP candidate Sara McCleary really laid it all out when she was nominated. Scarborough North: Previously held by Rathika Sitsabaiesan in 2011, NDP currently polling 3rd.  Scarborough Southwest: Strong LPC district, though Dan Harris won this riding in 2011. Whoever you vote for here, maybe don’t vote for Bill fucking Blair. Spadina—Fort York: downtown Toronto, previously the riding of Olivia Chow. Climate activist Diana Yoon in tough against incumbent Adam Vaughn. CPC a non-factor.      Sudbury: LPC/NDP battleground, with the Liberals on top pretty solidly in the polls. Thunder Bay—Rainy River: Close race between incumbent LPC and the NDP. The late John Rafferty represented the riding between 2008-2015. Thunder Bay—Superior North: Contest is a three-way between aisle-crossing GPC Bruce Hyer, incumbent LPC Patty Hadju and the NDP’s Anna Betty Achneepinsekum, former Deputy Grand Chief of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.    Timmins–James Bay: Say what you will about Charlie Angus, the wannabe-Pat Martin is not in any particular danger of losing this race. Toronto—Danforth: As matter of principle the NDP should not have lost Jack’s riding in 2015, and as this is essentially a two-way race between them and the LPC, documentarian Min Sook Lee should absolutely have your vote. Windsor—Tecumseh: Big NDP riding, incumbent Cheryl Hardcastle should be able to hold a riding the party has held all millennium. Windsor West: Similarly, Brian Masse has represented Windsor West since 2002. It’s his to lose. Toronto Centre: I mean, imagine unseating Bill Morneau. Liberals have a big lead here, the CPC are a non-factor and Brian Chang is an excellent candidate. University—Rosedale: Still unhappy that Jennifer Hollett lost out to Capitalism with a Human Face Chrystia Freeland, and further unhappy that Freeland seems a shoe-in for re-election. NDP are second, for what it’s worth. York South—Weston: Won by the NDP’s Mike Sullivan in ‘11, something of an LPC stronghold otherwise. Again, NDP are second in a very Liberal riding. Manitoba - well, it’s not all bad news.  Churchill—Keewatinook Aski: Yeah, Niki Ashton’s sticking around. It was close in 2015, but this is her 4th rodeo. Elmwood—Transcona: aka, the Blaikie dynasty riding. Again, I don’t care for that sort of thing but I do hope Daniel Blaikie holds on here. Currently 2nd behind the CPC. Winnipeg Centre: I feel like the good people of Winnipeg, who dumped Pat Martin for the Liberals in 2015, should be real disappointed with Ouellette. 338 has this one pretty tight with the NDP, and Leah Gazan is an incredible candidate. Winnipeg North: Historically a strong NDP riding despite disappointing results this decade.  Saskatchewan - The LPC is almost completely absent, the NDP trail the CPC everywhere. Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River: Currently held by Georgina Jolibois, tight race with the CPC here. Saskatoon West: Currently held by deputy NDP leader Sheri Benson, and apparently another tight one.  Regina—Lewvan: Oy. Currently held by former-NDP Erin Weir, who is thankfully not running. Seems like a loss incoming, CPC leading the NDP. Saskatoon—Grasswood: Safe CPC territory but with decent NDP numbers. Saskatoon—University: Oh gods, Brad Trost’s riding. The NDP are the second choice overwhelmingly here, but the Trostlodyte seems entrenched. Alberta - Let’s keep this short. Edmonton Strathcona: Linda Duncan, who won this seat in 2011, is retiring. Her would-be replacement Heather McPherson has a real uphill battle against… Alberta, conceptually. BC - The Greens are beginning to become a problem. Burnaby North—Seymour: Svend Robinson is back. Despicable CPC candidate Heather Leung has been removed (but remains on the ballot.) LPC incumbent Terry Beech has made wild claims about the necessity of defeating the Conservatives. I wanna bet on Svend but it seems like a hard one, especially with a strong Green 3rd place.  Burnaby South: If the NDP lose this riding we’ve learned a very important and painful lesson. CPC Jay Shin has disturbingly high numbers. Cowichan—Malahat—Langford: Alistair McGregor won this riding in 2015 and looks ahead of the pack in the rare 4-way race. Courtenay—Alberni: close CPC/NDP race with incumbent NDP Gord Johns looking okay but not exactly strong. Greens in a close third place. Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke: On the island, NDP incumbents like Randall Garrison are in real danger of being run-over by the Greens – he’s currently polling third, behind the GPC and CPC.   Kootenay—Columbia: NDP incumbent Wayne Stetski is in a close race with the CPC, they’re the only two parties relevant in this interior battle. Nanaimo—Ladysmith: Paul Manly won a spring by-election for the Greens, taking the riding from the NDP. Every expectation is they’ll hold it, and the NDP seem to be fighting the Conservatives for 2nd.   New Westminster—Burnaby: Peter Julian has represented the NDP from a variation of this riding since 2004, his biggest rival here is the LPC. North Island—Powell River: Incumbent NDPer Rachel Blaney barely leads the pack of 4, edging out the CPC. Needs your help, for sure. Port Moody—Coquitlam: part-man part-shark Fin Donnelly, having finally realized his legislative goals of banning shark-fins, is retiring. The NDP are thus in tough against the CPC for the fate of Po-Mo-Co, with the LPC not super far behind. Skeena—Bulkley Valley: Everyone’s favourite NDP MP Nathan Cullen is retiring and this enormous riding is sadly thus in play, a race between the NDP and CPC. South Okanagan—West Kootenay: Incumbent NDP Dick Cannings, avian biologist extraordinaire, is in a rare Interior three-way with retired tennis pro Helena Konanz and an unusually strong LPC in third. Surrey Centre: LPC seem likely to hold, the NDP are well-back in 2nd. NDP have a history of doing well in North Surrey. Surrey—Newton: I don’t think the recent scandal involving former MP Jinny Sims is going to help the NDP in this riding, but they are the 2nd choice to the incumbent LPC. Vancouver East: Never in doubt. The NDP have repped East Van consistently since they were the CCF, going all the way back to the thirties. Two brief interruptions in the 70s and 90s, otherwise 75 of the last 84 years this fortress of leftism has held. Vancouver Kingsway: My riding. Don Davies has done well by us for more than a decade. The Liberals attempting to gain this riding by parachuting in TV presenter Tamara Taggart kinda makes my blood boil. I’m good with Don. He’s got a healthy lead but it’ll be closer than I’d like. Northwest Territory At-Large: Three way race, could be a vote splitter. Nunavut At-Large: Three way race, could be a vote splitter. Sure would like to see them dump Leona. Mumilaq Qaqqaq is a fascinating candidate for the NDP.

A man from Orilla, Ont., has been arrested and charged after a human trafficking investigation in which the Regional Police said its vice unit wanted a 45-year-old man on allegations of exercising control, advertising sexual services, assault, and breach of an undertaking.
The investigation began in July 2022, when a nationwide prostitution investigation was launched, and officials stated that they believed there could be more survivors.
Investigators "identified a young survivor and a male suspect," a police Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued in October, and the suspect, James Munday, and a young survivor were in the suspect's car when it "returned" to Peel Region and appeared in a Brampton courtroom.
"After Munday was returned to Peel, the investigation continued, and in February, he was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including possessing child pornography and human trafficking, and the SEB Vice Unit believes there may be more victims of prostitution offences and witnesses to this investigation," police said.
