God I live this kind of shit

like horrible parent child relationships but it’s not simple. If the parent was horrible and cruel are didn’t care about their child at all it would be terrible, but at least it would be clear cut.

But when they do love their kid. When they genuinely care. Yet it doesn’t matter

When they love isn’t enough to make them treat the child well

when their love is inconsistent and overridden by other traits like greed or pride

when their love is there, but they are still a bad person

when their love is actually tearing their child apart

It’s SO GOOD so much angst opportunity so interesting. Like you can be a bad person and a good parent, or a good person but a bad parent .( Or in uthers case both lol)

And would it it be easier to hate someone who never loved you. Someone who completely discarded you. And yet they throw you scraps of care. You want to hate your parent, but you can’t. What a horrible paradoxical situation to be in

(I mean o course their are plenty of people who are fine with hating their parents and are completely justified in it but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is like literary analysis)

by nature, parents are supposed to care for their children. They are their maker, their guide, their template. So of course childern crave validation and care from their parents. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to go? But sometimes parents are good at being parents and childern don’t want to be childern anymore.

whenever I try to think Uther as a cruel Father, my mind would go to that scene where he carries him, crying. Fuck! The root of the whole problem is that he had a heart! Imagine him as a cruel man, vindictive but he wasn't heartless, if that had been, purge wouldn't have happened. He'd have moved and taken another wife, come to think of it, he didn't take another wife, nobody would have begrudge him, he was the king afterall, and one prince isn't enough to secure the bloodline and the throne. So yeah, Uther did love Arthur and Morgana, Morgana's betrayal was so deep he went mad man! Truly astounding. That a man who committed genocide was a human and had a heart and he loved his children. Truly, too much complexity
