Hii I saw that you were accepting requests and was wondering if you could do a
A Paul Lahote x Reader
Where the reader is really good friends with Emily, and helps her cook for the pack. When the pack runs into Emily’s house hungry, the reader already has plates prepared for everyone but makes Paul’s extra nice, and everyone teases/ is jealous because of the special treatment Paul gets.
haha of course of course 💜 hope you enjoy :)
4 wings - paul x reader
The hot grease pops and coats the cooking food in the pot. Jokes are tossed back and forth in the room between you and Emily. Joyful giggles fill the air. The air smelled delicious of the cooking food that was made with happiness and love.
The pack was out fulfilling their duties as being protectors. They really enjoyed coming back to a hearty home cooked meal after such a stressful day.
Cooking with Emily never felt tedious. One of the amazing qualities that you loved about her was how time seemed to pass so fast when she was around.
The food was ready to be plated so that’s exactly what you did. You always made Paul’s first and put it to the side. Emily pours the drinks in cups for each of the wolves that were about to come in.
The boys burst in noisily with their stomachs growling. They all sit at the long table, tired from the laborious day. Emily of course gives Sam’s designated plate. You help her set plates in front of each of the wolves.
“Here you go.” You say to Paul when he tiredly sits down. Paul’s plate is sat down in front of him and you massage his shoulders a bit. You then hug him from behind his neck. When you grab your plate and sit at the table next to him, a lot of eyes are on you.
“What’s wrong?” You ask, unsure of why some of them are looking at Paul’s plate.
“4 wings? Really? I eat way more than that.” Jared says and sets them apart on his plate to show off his claim. Emily just snorts at this.
“Not only that, the dude’s plate is so perfectly presented.” Embry speaks out snickering.
You roll your eyes and take a sip of your drink.
“And what about it?” Paul says, not really caring about their complaints. He’s feasting on his plate. He has way more than 4 wings and it wasn’t his problem.
“You’re only 3rd in command! It’s not fair!” Jared says to him. Paul shrugs and takes an extra big bite of his food to show off his unbothered attitude.
“At least hook the youngest up.” Seth says to you and gives you a set of innocent eyes.
Paul’s crunching makes them even more annoyed.
“It’s alright Seth, there’s some obvious favoritism. Emily please make my plate next time. I’ll be a skinny wolf dealing with Y/N’s portions.” Sam says.
“Look, she even gave me one of the smallest wings.” Jacobs says and holds it up.
“You guys are so dramatic. You are all making it seem like there isn’t enough for you all to get seconds.” you say to them. You rub Paul’s back in circles to reassure that he shouldn’t have feel bad for having a bit more than others.
“Do you like the food?” you say to him and he looks over at you with a shit eating grin and nods. He’s enjoying the blatant treatment of being on top.
“Besides, it’s not like he has that much more than all of you.” you say to the table.
Paul busts out laughing at the bewilderment of the pack’s eyes, hearing you say such statement.

THE BUNBUNBILLION Q1 2024 MEDIA THREAD EXTRAVAGANZA
Tumblr media
i've been recording everything i consume for the past few months to do a media thread at the end of every quarter. and now april is over... so its time to talk about stuff!! forever!!!!!!
01/13 - Homestuck (Re-Read)
I finished re-reading Homestuck for the... 4th? 5th time? I've lost count. It's a good way to start the year though. This time around I read it with my girlfriend, who you should give all of your money too (@yinkybaginky), and it was very fun to see someones reaction to it for the first time. She knew literally nothing about Homestuck, not even what a Vriska Serket was. A truly great experience, especially thanks in part to the Unofficial Homestuck Collection. I'll probably have more to see about Homestuck in depth on a later date, so I won't bog down this post with that. It's my favorite piece of media ever, and that's all there is really to say on the matter.
Tumblr media
01/24-01/25 - The Trolls Movies
I've been surrounded by gay people who love Trolls for the past like 5 years so I finally decided to give them a watch on a whim with my girlfriend, after catching some of the first movie in a streamers server.
They were fun! I really don't think I have much to say on them. They're kids movies, sure, but they're also just very visually great and made me go "yeah you know what some of those old pop songs WERE pretty good". I think when it came to stories I liked the first one the most just because I liked the Bergen's a lot, I thought their whole world was very well designed and all that. Don't have the most care for Branch, and Poppy is OK as a protagonist, but otherwise I had more fun with the other characters. Creature design is absolutely excellent and is what stood out to me the most of anything, though. The animation in the 3rd movie is also top notch, I really do want to see the series continue. If they do, I like the third movies approach of finding a niche to make "the thing" for the whole movie, it's a fun way of doing stuff.
Tumblr media
We thought this shot was really funny.
1/20 - Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio
I was gonna watch this when it came out awhiiile ago, but just put it off forever. I saw Jacob Geller had uploaded a new video about Pinocchio, which talked about the movie and was like. Man. I wanna watch that video. Guess I'll go watch this entire movie. So I hopped into VC with Netflix on and just watched it.
It was Fucking Good!!!!!!!!!!! Every good thing you've heard about the movie is absolutely true. Do yourself a favor and just watch it. That being said, I also don't have too much to say about it! It's been a few months and it hasn't totally stuck around in my head, but that just means I get to rewatch it sometime, and I can look forward to that. It mostly made me want to watch more stop motion movies.
If I were to highlight anything, its that I love to make the movie all about death. Pinocchio as a story seems to constantly get turned into this thing all about freedom and living and how great life is and all that, but this movie completely nailed that yea. Pinocchio works so much better as a movie about death. A puppet living on a blessing against the laws of nature being used as a vessel to explore acceptance of death. It's really great.
Tumblr media
the demons are such baddies btw
01/29 - Earthbound USA
Not the game, but the documentary put together by Jazzy Benson through Fangamer. It was absolutely fantastic. Easily my favorite game documentary I've ever watched... Because it's not really about the game.
To put into words, because I imagine 90% of people reading (not including the people I watched it with) haven't seen it or even heard of it, Earthbound USA is a documentary about specifically starmen.net and Earthbounds western fanbase.
The doc highlights basically every aspect of Earthbound in the west. They talk to the people who translated the game, who made the marketing campaign, the fans who bought the game day one, the translator of the MOTHER 3 fan translation, they talk about Earthbound Zero, about the virtual console releases, the quest to get MOTHER 3 officially localized and every single defeat that came with it, I mean Shigesato Itoi is just here too. It's everything you could ask for all combined with home videos from the early 2000s, an outstanding soundtrack that gives me goosebumps from Robbie Benson, it's just... So good.
I bought the DVD for the movie and streamed that to my friends, which you can get here on Fangamer, whenever they plan on restocking it at least. Or, you can watch it on streaming services listed on their website! If your a MOTHER fan, I'd say this is like, essential viewing. It may as well be official with how good it is.
Tumblr media
01/29 - A Brief Retrospective of The Simpsons' Golden Age
I finished this the same day. I recorded this mostly as a joke, but hey if your insane and have watched every single Simpsons episode like me and want whats basically a Simpsons Summary Podcast, I recommend this 11-hour video.
youtube
02/06 - MOTHER
A week later I couldn't get Earthbound USA out of my head, so I decided to finally sit down and go where no MOTHER fan has gone before. To the first game in the series.
It was really really good. Like, man, I don't know why I slept on it so long just because it was an NES RPG. Ok, I mean, I know why I did, it's because it's a NES RPG, but still.
This game really highlights everything that went into its two sequels to make them so good, and has so many little unique novelties about it that make it just so so memorable. The music, the writing, the places you go, it's just... So, so good. I still think the best way to get into MOTHER is to start with Earthbound, just due to how approachable it is, but if you like it and/or MOTHER 3, do not sleep on MOTHER/Earthbound Beginnings. It's just so good.
Probably use an emulator with rewind or save-states though.
Tumblr media
i'll be fine with not hearing magicants music anymore though
02/17 - Yakuza Kiwami 2
I started this game probably years ago, and never got that far. Yakuza 0 is definitely one of my favorite games ever, and I was kind of mixed on Yakuza Kiwami, but I was enjoying the start of Kiwami 2 for sure.
How did I feel by the end?
Tumblr media
I mean it's not BAD, per say, it's just... Not very good, either. The gameplay never really felt like it evolved much, the writing really felt like it never picked up and just kept ADDING stuff, but at least the side quests were probably the absolute best the series has given me so far. That definitely saved it for me, but man the story. It just wasn't very good.
I had a lot more thoughts after playing it, but I think think in the end it just comes down to;
Ryuji did not get nearly enough time to shine to be an impactful villian
The bastard cop was a character I was given no reason to care for, and the focus put on him did not feel earned in any way
Kiryu really did not feel that involved with everything going on
Sayama did not get nearly enough agency in this story
As for the twists, I didn't like how many there were at first, but I think by the end there were just so many twists I was like. Yeah nvm this is so fucking stupid it owns. So good on them for that!
I don't think I'll ever replay the main story for this game, but I will absolutely come back to those side quests, they're so good I don't want to spoil a single one. I am also really enjoying Yakuza 3 so far, so that's a we might just be back regardless.
Tumblr media
the selfie feature is really funny. you really feel like your some 40 year old dad.
02/22 - Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero - Epilogue
I have a lot of thoughts on Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. I am a HUGE Pokemon freak, like omega huge freak levels of such. I will claw and bite tooth and nail defending Sword and Shield any fucking day of the week. I think Scarlet and Violet are like, painfully mid games in such a disheartening way. I still enjoyed a lot of it, but man it's so held back by... everything, really.
And the DLC fixed I'd say about none of it. In fact, I'd go as far to say the 2 DLC stories only highlight and strengthen every single problem scarvi has as a game and it disheartens me, so, so so much. Unlike the Sword and Shield epilogues, which expanded upon the best parts of the game and experimented with brand new formats as prep for the next generation, scarvi kinda just does. Nothing. It's more Scarlet and Violet, slime grease and all.
Kitakami is... Ok, I guess? It's an exceptionally uninteresting region with absolutely no landmarks that stand out in my mind. The story in it is pretty subpar, it's a really annoying kind of "player has no control over a misunderstanding" narrative in a really obnoxious way and by god I'll say it I never really get a reason to care about Kieran. He's not bad by any means, I mean he's just a kid, but really I don't feel like I'd ever call him a friend. The story with the Loyal Three and Ogrepon is really cute though, I do love that they completely flipped the story of Momotaro on its head in such a fun and unique way.
Blueberry Academy I was looking forward to much more, thinking that while Kitakami was really rushed and pretty bad, it must mean more resources were just put towards the second DLC. I was pretty wrong, it was basically just as under baked... But also still better, regardless. They introduce a lot of characters you won't really remember with this DLC, and it feels weird because it feels like there SHOULD be more to these characters, but it's all confined to a pretty short campaign.
The story is pretty ok, and I like what they did with Kieran here, but the second you beat him in the champion fight the story like, immediately halts the breaks and everything stops mattering. I really thought Drayton might've been set up as an interesting antagonist, someone subtly bullying Kieran and egging on how he is, but in the end he's just a well meaning friend who's just eccentric. All the other trainers basically disappear as well, and Kieran reverts back to how he was before all this for the most part. Then the story with Terapagos has to happen, and you get the return to Area Zero, except with your new friends you've barely built bonds with and Briar instead.
Similar to Drayton, I thought Briar might've been getting set up to be a bit fucked up. She's pretty obsessed with Area Zero and proving that Heath was right, and that feels like obvious easy set up for a villain right? Obsession is kind of the text book villain motive, especially in a series like Pokemon. But, no, like Drayton, Briar is actually exactly as she seems, and there's nothing underneath.
Unfortunetly, Area Zero itself was also not as interesting on revisit. I imagine it was the far lower budget, but it ends up mostly just being a very basic crystal-cave environment, without that really fascinating hollow-earth vibe Area Zero has in the base game. You're also mostly just traveling alone going on fetch quests to beat mini-boss Pokemon to open up gates, so that feeling of traveling an unknown place with friends is also completely lost. In the end, Terapagos isn't much of a character at all, like Ogrepon (or Miraidon/Koraidon) are, and is just kinda There. I'm sure the anime is doing a lot more with them, given they're a main character, but man they are NOTHING in this game and it's really disappointing with how incredibly hyped up they are.
In the end though, the thing I really came out loving with the second DLC was something I didn't actually know about until after finishing the epilogue, which was the brief interaction with the Professor in Kitakami once you have Terapagos. I won't spoil it, I'd recommend going to the crystal lake in Kitakami with Terapagos in your party to see it, but it was a moment where I was really like... Damn. This story really could've been something special.
NOW WITH ALL THAT OUT OF THE WAY, it was the Epilogue that I beat this year, which acts both as a bonus to the DLC, and a Mythical Pokemon event similar to ones from the DS games. And, I gotta say.
It's easily the best thing in the entire DLC, bar none.
Despite just being a revisit to Kitakami, the Epilogue is not only better written then both of the DLC chapters, but actually shows that promise for future games like the SWSH DLC did years ago. I had a smile on my face basically the entire time.
First off, hanging out with the three friends again after they basically disappear once you beat the game is so incredibly refreshing. Just having them over to your house is the first time in a Pokemon game I've actually felt that like... Oh, I'm a kid hanging out with my friends, kind of feeling. That original inspiration the Pokemon series had was just completely captured with that, and I love it, and it continues through the entire DLC. On top of that, the DLC does a lot of very small things with its cutscenes that I felt were really missing from the main game that actually completely caught me off guard. Seamless transition between overworld cutscenes, cinematic cutscenes, and battles mainly. It feels like Pokemon games have always struggled with taking you out of the story for loading screens or transitions or letting the player wander off or something. It's hard to immerse, but with this DLC just through the most simple methods they really catch you off guard with the cutscene framing and battle starts in a way I absolutely adore, especially since your with your friends who can actually Talk for you too. Helps that all of the writing is just really funny too, I had such a good time.
Overall, I think this is where I want the Pokemon series to go. The segment of Area Zero where you travel with all your friends already stood out to a lot of people, but didn't have the most writing to back it up. Similarly, this DLC has all of the writing, but it can feel like you aren't actually traveling with your friends, as they don't follow you. I think having a Pokemon game where you travel directly with other people in a bit of a party is the way to go with expanding on Pokemon as a series, and this DLC combined with base scarvi really proves How it can work. It makes me so excited to see where we can go from here, and I can only hope they learned from all these mistakes.
Tumblr media
wow i had a fucking lot to say about scarlet and violet dlc and i didnt even mention this thing. whatever.
02/26 - Splatoon 3: Side Order
Funny story, I actually beat Splatoon 3 on a friends copy, but on my own switch, so when this DLC came out I ended up buying an entire new copy of Splatoon 3, with DLC, and an already completed save file. So was the DLC worth 80 bucks? I mean, no, not at all, but it was extremely good!!
It came out while I was out of town with my girlfriend, so we had a lot of fun playing it together, and I think it's just overall a genius idea for a Splatoon mode. It makes me like, viscerally crave an even bigger Splatoon roguelike, but I'm also like an extreme roguelike freak. The story was super cute (my big "I <3 PEARLINA" shirt notwithstanding) and basically everything it introduces is great. I haven't actually beaten the Agent 8 locker yet, because I'm Bad At Splatoon </3, but I everything else was just so good.
Tumblr media
im actually extremely biased, btw
02/27 - Ponyo (Rewatch)
I rewatched Ponyo with my girlfriend while I was over for the first time since I was a wee little amoeba. It was so fucking cute!!!! I really do love Ghibli movies a lot. I don't think there's a lot I can say about Ponyo, per say, at least not as much as other Ghibli movies I love like Spirited Away (my fave movie evarr), but I think this movie combined with like. Finding Nemo, Animal Jam, and going to the Houston Aquarium combined are probably why I love marine biology so much now.
Tumblr media
02/29 - Death Note
The anime, to be specific, for the first time. Yeah, I can see why this became such a big thing with fujoshis. I get it, I understand now. I'm sorry L, I didn't know your game.
Death Note is overall both an anime of its time, and an absolute classic you should be watching. It's engaging, it's dramatic, it's funny, and there's so many points where your just like "damn are they gonna bone" about the two characters the authors 100% had no intention to be seen in that way.
It's only real problems come from the authors also having no fucking clue what to do with women in the story, and making pretty annoyingly shallow characters that get sidelined really hard. The final arc is also a bit head scratching, but it makes for good drama, so I can't really complain, even if I remember a lot less of it. Great show, great ending. Where's my Misa & Rem yuri manga series.
Tumblr media
he really is just fucking jeff the killer huh
02/29 - Promare
Watched this with my girlfriend on a whim, cus we wanted to watch a movie together. I've been a very lowkey TRIGGER studios fan since I was a kid, watching Kill la Kill when I was way too young to be watching shows that crazy boobed, but it did definitely contribute to my transgender-ness, so you can't fault it there (you can fault it for a lot of other things though). No matter what though, when TRIGGER just randomly came out with a full feature length movie released in theaters, I was pretty interested. Which is why I didn't watch it for years.
After watching it though? Yea, that was really fun. It's not much in the way of story, very basic Minority Allegory story I think, but it's all to make way for extremely crazy action scenes and homages to all their favorite mecha anime, which like, yea props they did a great job. Character design is extremely fun, environments are super colorful, animation is what you'd expect from TRIGGER (good), and there's a lot of man tits this time around. I recommend it!
Tumblr media
03/04 - 2001: A Space Odyssey
I'll be so fucking honest I watched this on my phone on a plane ride and I don't fucking know anything that happened. I think it was good?? I think it made sense??? I really wanted to fall asleep but I really wanted to watch the movie. It felt like it was simultaneously 4 hours long and 30 minutes. I think I should probably watch it again. I don't know why I chose to watch it on a plane. But hey, I did!
Tumblr media
watching this shit while half awake on a dark plane felt like i was in another fucking dimension. what the hell happened
03/08 - Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 1
Hey Fortnite, I play that game! Sometimes.
I've been pretty consistently "playing" Fortnite since Chapter 2: Season 5, and I do really like the game. I love the gameplay, I love all the stupid crossovers, I loved the story, it was just a really fun time!
Well, up until like half way through Chapter 3 at least. The problem with Fortnite is that, no matter what, in the end of the day, it's still owned by Epic Games, and that means at some point, shits gonna get sloppy. I won't go over my whole history with how I feel Fortnites been on a decline since Chapter 3, but I can at least say i was pretty fucking checked out most of Chapter 4. I really didn't like it.
So, coming back on for Chapter 5? Oh shit this game is actually fun I forgot. Played a shit ton that season, actually finished the main battle pass for once, had so much fun with all the new things they added, it really feels like Fortnites back.
Oh... and there's that LEGO mode... and that rockband mode... and there's racing I guess... I didn't really touch them much but they're neat... They were pushing those modes pretty hard, I hope this isn't a sign of something to come... I'm sure they'll keep up the momentum for the next season right? Battle Royale is totally back, right?
Tumblr media
i ended up staying up till like the last day grinding in creative to get this emote. im so glad i can make perfect cell do the bird is the word dance now.
03/12 - King of Crusher
I beat this game over on my twitch, you can catch me live playing obscure games every so often each month!! Check it out and give me money! I said mostly everything I wanted to say about it on stream, but this game was just a really fascinating little art project that was both really frustrating and really funny to play. I really wanna find more little gems like this to play, it's so ODD but fun.
Tumblr media
03/15 - Animal Crossing (Movie)
Watched this movie as apart of a movie night with my groupchat and it was adorables so cutes! I don't think there's really anything I COULD say about this movie, but it does really make me wish Nintendo was more willing to make more stuff like it. Just a really well animated fun anime movie that's not trying to be this big thing.
Tumblr media
the ending caught me completely off fucking guard though
03/17 - Unpacking
Similar to Animal Crossing, I don't really have a lot to say about this game besides so cutes! The story told through the environment was super adorable and I really do think back to this game a lot in a very emotional way.
That being said, I wish it was a tad longer for how expensive it was, as great as the art was lol
If you can find it on sale though, go play it!!
Tumblr media
i was playing with my girlfriend and we ended up interpreting the main character as really hating her boyfriend. my fucking Pig of a husband wont let me put my posters on the wall. my Pigly husband. i need to Kill my Meat Pig of a Husband.
03/17 - Pizza Tower (The Noise Update)
In complete tonal contrast to Unpacking, I beat the Noise Update in Pizza Tower right after. It was, like Pizza Tower, really good, but not without its flaws.
In the time since I've played Pizza Tower, I've reflected a lot on what I love about the game and what I honestly don't care much for. I've been playing demos since the very first public one, and I've loved watching it evolve, but if there's one bit of context I've gotten that shapes how I look at the game, it's that the games creator has a really big issue with having a lot of ideas for stuff, and not really thinking about how they fit in together.
Pizza Tower is like, a REALLY good game, don't get me wrong. The movement is borderline perfect, the level design is consistently fun and flows well, the graphics are unmatched in how expressive they are, the music is some of my fave from the entire medium, but if there's one thing really holding back Pizza Tower it's that lack of focus, and I think you can boil that down to the core game design of levels.
Pizza Tower is easy to compare to Wario Land, given that's its primary inspiration, but I think it's much more akin to Sonic, which is also a major inspiration for it. The problem is, it definitely tries to apply Wario Lands brand of "wario can be anything" to sonics "levels can be anything". Sonic levels are all about super quick flashy levels you can blast through, each one having a gimmick unique to the level that you learn, master, and then use throughout the multiple zones. On the other end, Wario Land presents you with these large winding interior-like levels that you slowly (or somewhat quickly in the case of entries like WL4), navigate and solve puzzles throughout for treasure, with your main solution typically landing on how Wario himself can be controlled using various gimmicks unique to him. Your presented a gimmick, and then you remember that gimmick for the future so you can use it to solve a future puzzle. In many ways, these two games can almost feel like the opposite kind of game, only linked by being sidescrolling platformers where you can bust through walls. Pizza Tower, despite that, tries to be both, and in many ways succeeds, but cant avoid the problems that inherently comes with trying to be these two very polar ends.
Basically, I just feel theres a lot of really forgettable levels and an overall problem with gimmicks getting absolutely no chance to be explored so you can never really be rewarded in basic play for mastering a gimmick, other then replaying a level multiple times. I think less gimmicks but more places to use the same ones would be really great.
Talking about the Noise update specifically, it was just a fun retake on the main game, and made for a fun replay after not playing Pizza Tower for about a year since release. I find it really fascinating how even after changing how the entire game controls, the levels still work with minimal changes. I'm looking forward to see if they decide to change it any more in the future, and I hope whatever comes after Pizza Tower can be a much more focused experience.
Tumblr media
03/17 - Hiveswap Act 1 (Replay)
See; Homestuck Reread. Been here a billion times, here to show my girl this time. I'll probably scream about this one later. <3
Tumblr media
03/20 - Rescue Shot
See; King of Crusher. Another stream game! This one I liked even more, though I Really wish I had a lightgun (or could fix the mouse controls on my emulator). Incredibly adorable game with insanely good music, check out the VOD if your interested!
Tumblr media
03/25 - Super Mario Bros. (1993)
I feel like in recent time, people have been hyping up this movie as like, secretly a really good film that people only hate because it's not a Mario movie. I'll be real, after watching it for the first time, I don't see it at all, I think this is just an incredibly funny bad movie.
Beyond not being Mario, which really doesn't matter at all, it kind of just felt like a fever dream of a script. Things kept HAPPENING there wasn't a single second to break I felt like I was in a nightmare hell dimension being blasted with insane plot beats and I couldn't keep track of anything. Without the Mario branding this would be like 10x LESS comprehensible, but good lord.
Maybe this is like, an arthouse film, and I need to watch it 12 more times and be high at least half those times, but idk I think it might actually be bad guys. Big Bertha a baddie though.
Tumblr media
03/29 - The Croods
Another movie night with friends, we got the PRIVILEGE of watching The Croods. I saw it once when I was a kid, but I didn't really remember anything about it other then there was a character named Grug.
I now realize that the reason I remember this character is because this movie literally lied and he's the main character. It really tries to set up that the conventionally attractive main teenage girl is the protagonist but no this movie is 100% about Grug and it's so fucking Particular. Why pretend it's not about him when he becomes our sole point of view for half the film? Why pretend its about the teenage girl when she basically doesn't have any dialogue for the last 25% of the movie? What is this movie trying to say, politically? This movies a thinker. I think its a bigger thinker then 2001, honestly.
Tumblr media
04/12 - Police Story
The first Jackie Chan movie I've ever seen and damn what a fucking good one to start with. Insanely entertaining, incredibly funny, and just a really great film! I don't think I have much else to say about it other then gush about each and every scene and how well made it is, but it really makes me wish we could get movies like this more. Just a practical effect wonderland where the main guy is just having fun with people on set. It's great.
Tumblr media
hes kind of a babygirl
04/13 - Con Air
Actually the first time I've seen this movie, surprisingly, given my attachment to the media that has essentially co-opted this film. It wasn't good, like at all, but it was very very entertaining with friends. I didn't expect it to get so much into like, weird racism stuff?? Characters just keep appearing and getting named it's so fucking weird. What was the deal with Steve Buscemi's character, I feel like scenes were cut or something. Nick Cage was incredibly funny as the lead. It's the thing you watch with friends on 4/13, what else can I say.
Tumblr media
why did he do this
04/19 - The Princess Bride
Honestly, I thought this one was a rewatch when we put it on in the GC, but I think I just remembered watching clips of it or seeing half of it on TV as a kid, so I'll just consider this a first time watch. It's really good! Just a fun simple movie full of extremely witty jokes. It's kind of like watching a Simpsons episode for the first time and getting to a part where they say something and you go "oh i've heard this quoted like a fucking million times, i get it now". If you haven't seen this movie, whattarya doin, go watch it!
Tumblr media
i feel like were it not for andre being basically irreplaceable we would have a netflix reboot about these three right now. maybe that does exist already.
04/21 - PokeRogue
Half this thread is Pokemon and as I already said, I'm a roguelike freak. This game is like crack for me. That being said it's just alright. I think I'll be willing to judge it more once it's more finished and not just Pokemon in the most barebones form imaginable, coding wise. It's the basis for an extremely addicting game, and I plan on sinking even more hours into it soon. Extra points for using PMD music as well <3

im only just now finding out the rival is gendered. hey cunts let me play as a girl and get the girl rival or you hate me ok?
04/22 - The Mask (2023)
Now you may be wondering, The Mask? The movie from ten TRILLION years ago staring the homunculi known only as Jim Carrey? You'd be a fool to assume this. I am talking instead about Connor O' Malley's current best work, THAT The Mask.
There's not much I want to say about it, because I just think it's good, but if there's one thing I can say it's that Joker (2019) should be fucking embarrassed in how hard it was stood up by this short film.
Content warning for pretty heavy themes and a lot of crass jokes.

04/23 - Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) & Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) (Rewatch)
In preparation for the Knuckles show (which I still haven't finished), I decided it'd be nice to rewatch these two films for the first time. I haven't seen the first one since I watched it for the first time before Sonic 2, and I haven't seen Sonic 2 since I saw it at an early screening. What do I think of them now in retrospect?
Yeah, not very good films. Very fun! But damn, yea wow, I think with enough time to look back on them, there's a lot I really don't care for in them, and I'm not just talking about the human scenes.
I've been having a lot of conversations about adaptations lately, so I'll mostly summarize my thoughts here. In making an adaptation, your one mission in my eyes is maintaining what made the original loved. Not good, because that's not really a quantifiable thing. Not faithfully, because I feel you can make a good adaptation without being faithful. All you need to truly keep is the Reason people came to that piece of media originally, in my eyes. Whether that means going as hard as you can with something like The Last of Us, which essentially 1 to 1 recreates an entire video game, or be much more out there like with One Piece (Netflix), which essentially tells the same story but with wildly different circumstance and aesthetic.
The Sonic movies, in my eyes, simply don't capture that. In the first movie alone, Sonic and Eggman are essentially our only ties to the games, which is fine as long as they can nail them right, right? And, as many before me have really pointed out, no they don't really at all. Sonic isn't really like Sonic at all, he's a much younger, innocent, and hyperactive "version" of the character, and I say version in quotations because I don't really feel like with those adjectives removed he'd be all that similar to Sonic still. This is basically a new character, and that's fine, but I'd be hard pressed to say it captures what brought people to Sonic. Similarly, Eggman is very much not really similar to any iteration to Eggman at all (except maybe AoSTH?) A lot of people love Jim Carrey Eggman, and I totally get why, but man he really has never clicked with me. I think I like canon Eggman too much to let go, it's over for me.
But I'm sure anyone who's been around Sonic long enough has heard a trillion complaints about the first movie. In rewatching the second movie, I found that it moved way faster then I remembered, and just had way less.. character? Tails is so incredibly shoehorned in, which is a common complaint, but it really felt like at times Sonic was too?
In Sonic games, Sonic isn't exactly a character we put ourselves in the shoes of. Sonic is like this cool older brother we're just along with for the ride. If anything we insert ourselves (as kids) in Tails' shoes. Sonic doesn't really have an internal monologue, nor does he really tend to need a big shonen arc to overcome in his games. He's very much this vessel to explore other characters, to see how people respond to his brash and cocky personality. In that way, Sonic works really well, but can struggle really hard when he's placed all alone. He needs people to not only bounce off of, but to do the emotional side of the story in his stead. With the Sonic movies, we get this very very diffrent form of Sonic being put into this scenarios the canon Sonic wouldn't typiclaly find himself in, and see how he acts. It can work for original stories, because it's basically an original character, but that's the struggle with Sonic 2, and I worry Sonic 3 as well. They aren't fully original stories. Sonic 2 is a loose adaptation of Sonic 3 in most ways, with Knuckles being the true second character, and Tails being mostly to the side. Knuckles acts basically perfectly, like yea that's Knuckles, no notes there outside of maybe not taking his heritage seriously enough, but that's him. So how do you write this movie sonic into this adaptation with a Knuckles whos playing it basically straight like the games? Well... I mean, you kind of just... You, don't, really? Sonic is really just There sometimes, to say quips and to move the story forward. With exception to the scene where he's having a feeling jam with Knux, which I like, Sonic is very much Just There, and it feels really odd. In the games, this works because of his aforementioned status as this guy your along with for the ride, a dude whos too cool to even be the protagonist, but Sonic Movie Sonic IS the protagonist. He's meek and still learning and is far from the asshole we know in the games and comics, but implanted into a games storyline, he just doesn't have much he can do. He can't be that too cool guy that let's his friends do the talking, because he's already been set up as this superhero esque main guy who needs to learn a lesson by the end of the film, or overcome some kind of arc. It's just all odd in retrospect, and I really wonder how they're gonna tackle it in Sonic 3, especially without all the characters that make Sonic Adventure 2s gears go.
Tumblr media
i also couldnt stop staring at his teeth in the movie. i really dont like the teeth idk why im just now noticing them.
04/25 - Pseudoregalia
Knocked this game off my backlog and I'm really happy I did! Beat the game with all the time trials done and I really do love it. I want to call it the perfect length, but really I think it was just a bit too short and I hope we can get more content in the future, I'm definitely itching for more levels and maybe even more time trials.
I can't think of much else to say about the game. I don't think I picked up on the story much at all, I'll probably have to ask my girlfriend about it sometime, but it's not exactly a big part of the game. The music was absolutely fantastic, and I adore all of the costumes for the main character. I like her design, for many obvious reasons.
For further criticism besides length though, combat feels pretty useless. There's really no point in the game where I ever feel like I have to or even SHOULD fight, and the final boss ends up losing a lot of impact because of it. Enemies just become a hazard in navigating the world in a way that isn't particularly fun. Similarly, there were a few upgrades that had maybe one use ever and I don't even know why they're there. I think this game could benefit a lot from playing even harder into it's all too obvious inspirations and just getting a bunch of RPG mechanics and more RPG inspired elements in here. Give me Symphony of the Bunny-Cat-Goatgirl, full on.
Tumblr media
I also watched madagascar 2 with friends, but i don't even feel like counting it. watch this fucked up compressed video instead.
THAT'S IT FOR Q1 2024!! I'm really trying to look at a lot this year, and I hope to have EVEN MORE TO TALK ABOUT in 4 months! maybe ill do it even earlier because damn this was a fucking lot to write. If you read this far thank you, I'll be sending you a giant mettalic muscular butler sir in the mail as thanks.

RWCH Readathon: Day 23
Princess in Practice - Chapter 16
ELLIE POV ELLIE POV ELLIE POV
The audiobook has a new va for Ellie like with the boys!
Very excited
I ADORE ADORE ADORE THIS DESCRIPTION OF CONCH HOUSE
Also omg how could i forget Saxons name im disappointed in myself help
I dont love that conch is portrayed as the super rich designer fashion forward expensive taste house
Also the fact that the gym is in conch is a lil strange, why wouldnt it be with the rest of the normal school buildings
Like yes dame bolter is head of the lancers and sport stuff
But what is a new house head got appointed? Then what
I love ellies banter with the other lancers it makes her feel more realistic outside of her relationships to lottie and jamie
I miss jacob. He was funny
I like seeing the similarities between ani and ellie as they try to help each other without actually talking
Its miscommunication but with a net positive
Them having a fight while fencing is so very Rory / Paris in their chilton era in gilmore girls
Ani snapping and having hinestly a mild anxiety attack about actually not hating saskia is just
Connie is insane for putting this as eloquently as she did. Because yeah. When you break up with someone but you have to see them again, what if you dont hate them?
I get it ani
Though my exs arent nearly as bad as 'kidnapped our friend for a criminal organisation'
IMAGINE IF IT WERE LOTTIE
Shes insane for that pop off ani
I have this whole end bit highlighted in red for favourite moments
YOU AND SASKIA ARE SO SIMILAR SOMETIMES
Okay 1. I need all of ani and saskias backstory immediately 2. Ellie not wanting to hurt lottie like that then hurting her worse is kinda funny rip them
I could go on forever about this scene but i wanna keep it short so if anyone wants to hear my rambles please rb and ask for more so i know lol
For now tho
I love that this is ellie realising for the forst time really how much she really does like lottie
And how once she notices her own feelings she suddenly is able to appreciate anis situation more, all of her actions.
If it were for lottie, ellie would do the same, shed do anything
Ani and ellie are both the masters of saskia and lottie technically, but their relationships are so much deeper than that
Because of that, ellie and eni can relate to each other so much more than almost anyone else
Also
Theyre down bad crying at the gym

Little fic inspired by this post by @quackityinc (hiiii delilah)
-
Quackity doesn't remember when he started kidnapping Karl Jacobs. He wishes he did so he could go back in time and tell his past self to, like, not fucking do that. Because not only has it turned... problematic for multiple reasons (relation to Heatwave, increasing popularity, personal interest, etc.), but also? Karl Jacobs is annoying. That, most of all, has really turned Quackity off of the whole kidnapping thing.
"Oh, you redecorated!" Karl exclaims.
Ten minutes, Quackity thinks. Karl Jacobs has been kidnapped for ten minutes, and he's already out of the trap Quackity stuck him in. He's out of the trap, and he's wandering around Quackity's super evil lair with a smile painted on his face like he literally isn't kidnapped. He is literally kidnapped. What is wrong with him?
Quackity, for his part, just lets it happen. He sits in his chair and he watches Karl wander around his lair like it's an art museum.
Arms crossed, and scowl firmly on his face, Quackity thinks, not for the first time, that maybe this has gotten a little out of control.
"I like it!" Karl declares. He looks at Quackity, eyes wide and eager and full of enough bullshit to drown a pig in. "It's nice! Modern, I like that in an evil lair."
"I'm glad," Quackity dryly responds. His voice changer pitched his voice down to Technoblade levels of deep.
"See, but there's one thing I would change-"
Quackity sighs and fights the urge to put a bullet through Karl's pretty little skull. Here it comes...
Karl paces along the balcony above Quackity, fingers trailing along the railing as he goes. He painted his nails again, Quackity absently notices. Pink. Nice.
"-I'm not sure if the carpet up here is good for, like, stains?" Karl says, and- yeah, okay, he's got a point, but the carpet wasn't Quackity's idea. "Like- okay, shut me down here if you want, but I know you like your bloodstains, and the carpet up here is too dark for that? I think?"
"I'm not exactly torturing people up there," Quackity says. "You know where I torture people."
"Ugh, yeah, I know, but I still think that you should think about putting something lighter in if you want the stains to pop."
"Who says I want the stains to pop?"
"Don't you villain guys have that uuuuh..." Karl trails off, deep in thought. His mouth turns down into a cute little frown that a weaker Quackity would want to kiss. "...the what's-it-called. Your OSHA."
Quackity nods. "Yeah, VOSHA."
The Villainous Organization for Safety, Health, and Absolute Degeneracy. Quackity is the vice president this year, much to his annoyance. Schlatt got the presidency yet again thanks to the vote rigging. Fucking asshole.
Karl snaps his fingers. "Yeah! That! Isn't their whole thing making sure your evil lairs are, like, evil? This doesn't look evil to me."
He scuffs the toe of his shoe along the carpet. Quackity is sure he's getting mud all over it, but he doesn't really care. Again, the carpet wasn't his idea. Blame Foolish. He wanted something nice.
"I'm not getting rid of the carpet," Quackity says.
"I'm not saying you have to!" Karl objects. "I'm just saying that you've got some design flaws up here. Just saying."
In one swift motion, Karl braces himself against the railing with one hand and hops it, settling upside-down from the topmost bar. Quackity wishes he'd fall and crack his skull open, but he knows he won't, and he knows that him wishing that he would is just a desperate attempt at not caring about someone he cares entirely too much about.
"Thanks for putting the railings in, by the way," Karl says. He doesn't seem at all bothered by the fact that he's freely dangling by his feet twenty feet above a hard concrete floor. "Makes it way easier to hang, you know?"
Quackity has seen Karl's shows. He was in the audience of last week's, front row. He even got to be part of it as an audience volunteer, and he got a bouquet of plastic flowers from Karl's sleeve for his trouble. Those flowers are in a vase in his bedroom back home right next to the program.
"Yeah, no, I totally get it," Quackity says. He watches as Karl drops his arms down so they swing next to his head. "Sometimes you just gotta hang, yeah, I get it."
"You know, you're a nice guy," Karl says. He looks at Quackity like he can see through the mask. "Sometimes I wonder what you look like under there."
Absently, Quackity raises a gloved hand to press his mask closer to his face. "Nothing special. Don't worry about it."
Karl smirks at that, eyes narrowing slightly. "Somehow, I doubt that."
And, of course, that's when Heatwave chooses to enter via the window, crashing through without a care in the world.
Quackity groans. He can't afford this...
"Karl!" Heatwave shouts. He looks frantically around the room before seeing Karl hanging from the railing. At that, he looking faintly alarmed, and very amused. At least he and Quackity can agree on that. "Karl, oh my God, there you are!"
Karl smiles and waves. "Hey, baby! Me and V were just hanging out."
He giggles at the pun. Quackity wants to slit his throat. Quackity wants to kiss him. This is a problem.
Heatwave turns on his heel to glare at Quackity, who stares impassively back from behind his mask.
"Vulture," Heatwave says, voice pleasant but laced with disgust. "will you please stop kidnapping my boyfriend?"
Very few know that famed hero Heatwave has a partner. Very many people know that famed magician Karl Jacobs has a partner. He shows his boyfriend, one Sapnap Halo, off every time he does an Instagram livestream. Quackity is one of only two people on the planet that knows that Heatwave and Sapnap Halo are one in the same. This is also a problem.
"Nah," Quackity says. He glances up at Karl with a soft smile. "I'm good."

Your ask box is my kingdom, I am taking it over
But anyway I so badly want your thoughts on Jack and Davey in my college prof au please please please I know I haven't spoken about it on tumblr yet except from a little bit but I love your Javid so yeah
-has watched high school musical thank you very much
ok ok @roideny obvi this is your au but here are my Very Important thoughts bc i love them Very Much ugh. in love w them
David Jacobs-Kelly:
44 years old, born in ‘79
Undergrad: majored in English, minored in Creative Writing
Masters: Poetics and Theory AdvC- NYU
Doctorate: English and American Literature, thesis is over gender and sexuality in Shakespeare
he’s been Dr. Jacobs-Kelly for about seventeen years by the time the story takes place!
as a prof, he teaches a comp class, an honors comp (Critical Analysis and Writing), and some creative writing/poetry courses! he’s a very busy man.
he meets Race, Albert, and Finch because they’re students in his comp class!
when he’s not teaching, he’s really involved in the local queer scene. i feel like he’s a staple at drag brunches and pride celebrations; he’s not a huge club fan anymore but he still loves being Involved. growing up during the aids crisis is traumatizing at the least, and im sure he lost a few friends, so he stays up to date in the queer stuff to sort of honor them.
he marries jack in 2011 when gay marriage is legalized in new york!
he’s a huge shakespeare fan, as seen by his phd studies. he has a hamlet-inspired tattoo because he’s gay
tbh he probably has a cat named after shakespeare (they have two cats im calling it now. shakespeare and bryan, name courtesy of jack)
he and jack don’t have any kids, but he’s a loving fun uncle for Les and Sarah’s respective kids!
Jack Jacobs-Kelly:
45 years old, born in ‘78
Undergrad: Studio Art! but he dropped out after a semester <33
he just decided that college wasn’t for him. why pay money for something he doesn’t need?
he goes straight into a set design apprenticeship that medda helps him get! medda is his adoptive mom, so he’s been around queer spaces and theatre since he was around 15. he loves it, it’s his home
that being said he probably sells his own paintings and maybe does mural work on the side, he likes to keep busy and is invested in the art scene, and he meets davey when davey moves to New York for his masters! he’s the reason davey stays in NYC <33
he’s very eccentric, and very much doesn’t give a fuck. he’s a black queer man- the universe already nerfed him, so why worry about anything else? i can see him being the really go-with-the-flow husband to davey’s more tight-strung academic vibe. they really balance each other out
again, they don’t have kids, but i feel like this jack is very much For The Youths? i can see him volunteering a lot, working for organizations that help troubled kids get into the arts— i feel like it’s his passion project that makes him feel better when davey is busy at the university all day. in another life he’s a foster parent, but he and davey just don’t have the lifestyle to foster, so he focuses his energy elsewhere!
whenever davey “adopts” some freshmen he’s always on board. he really hits it off with Albert!
not as involved in the queer scene as davey, but his career is literally in musical theatre set design, so even if he’s not in the queer scene he’s In The Queer Scene
i don’t wanna talk about him losing medda but i can see him eventually inheriting the theater!
he loves his nieces and nephews! he’s a big family guy
Extra Thoughts:
jack and davey are a pair. they rarely go anywhere outside of work without each other, and they’re so, SO in love.
jack pretty regularly comes to see Davey while he’s at work; he’ll bring him lunch to office hours and pop in to watch him lecture from time to time.
davey attends the opening night of every show jack works on <33
their apartment is always a mess LMAO. davey has papers and books everywhere, there’s paint on the floor, brushes all over the place— it’s what happens when you cross a tired academic and an adhd creative. shit happens.
they actually stay pretty hip and on-trend? idk how it happens but jack is rlly good with youth culture and davey is on top of gay culture so like. yeah they work.
over summers and breaks, they travel a lot! not anything crazy expensive— they love international travel, but they’re also a big fan of road trips and rental cars!
they are my FAVORITES and i love them so much

Games of the month - June 2023
This month my hyperfocus went towards watching as many movies as possible, so it’s a pretty breezy games of the month
1. Haiku, The Robot
Tumblr media
Neat little metroidvania about a little robot. It’s cute it’s pretty fun. My two big complaints would be
1) it felt pretty linear. i don’t doubt that there were probably other ways to get to locations than the ways that i took but the experience of playing it it really felt like each upgrade allowed me access to one new path which would lead me to the next upgrade and so on and so on.
2) i like boss fights better when each enemy has a little name pop up. the designs were cool and did some interesting stuff sometimes. i just wish i didn’t have to think of them in terms of like ‘the car battery one’, ‘the tv one’ etc. It makes them feel less memorable.
Otherwise perfectly fine metroidvania.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Tumblr media
Chronologically this is when I finished Tears of the Kingdom but I’m not ready to tear into that just yet so lets move on to
3. Life After Magic
Tumblr media
This is a free game available through steam or through itch.io. It’s a visual novel where you control Akiko, a former magical girl who has somewhat drifted through life after the big bad that she and her magical girl team fought against has been defeated. With y2k approaching something is wrong and it’s up to you to bring your girls back together and face one more threat.
Hey. I love this game. There’s a good chance this is pretty high up my games of the year list, if not at the very top. I love the girls. I love the trans and nonbinary inclusion. I love the homages to sailor moon, yu-gi-oh and probably some other stuff that I didn’t even get. I love the way the game plays with nostalgia and the way this narrative reaches a head. If you’re like one of the two or three people reading this I absolutely recommend you get and play this one.
4. Monuments To Guilt
Tumblr media
This is a digital museum dedicated to hostile design as featured in the Jacob Gellar video Games That Aren’t Games. Throughout you can see a number of benches designed to be uncomfortable, off-putting or otherwise just inaccessible to homeless people and disabled people. It’s a short experience and it is interesting to see this insidious aspect of design presented in the prestigious format of a museum and to see it talked about openly. It’s an interesting little experience.
5. Down In Bermuda
Tumblr media
Fun and simple puzzle game. It’s the kind of think that would be approachable for kids, simple puzzle concepts like pipe dreams kind of puzzles, hidden object puzzles, no towers of hanoi to speak of but lots of puzzles that feel like they’re in the public domain so to speak. Nothing too difficult and taxing.
6. Lone Fungus
Tumblr media
Another metroidvania from the recent humble metroidvania bundle. This game is okay. I like the cute little aesthetic and the basic movement is fun. The big big Big criticism I have of this game is that so much of the side content is like these nether gates or these ladybird rooms. The first time you go in these you get a little popup or something to tell you just how completely optional they are and they would have to be. The difficulty of platforming going from the actual game to these challenges is a fucking sheer cliff wall both in terms of reaction speed needed and in terms of the sheer length of time you need to platform perfectly.
At one point in the game I got a new skill ability and accessed a little tutorial move about how to use it and it started talking about using it to propel yourself quickly by doing this one kind of dash into it and for the life of me I could not get it to activate properly. I felt like I was attempting to perform some complex speedrun tech and the inputs I had to do were like spread across four different buttons which all needed to be hit so quickly in succession. Impossible. This was about the time I gave up on exploration altogether.
And like... it’s a metroidvania. For me at least that exploration is the point of the video game. If you’ve put me off of doing it I don’t really know what I’m getting out of the experience any more.
Also frustrating is that the final (fourth of four) sword upgrades is locked behind completing every single one of the ladybird rooms. And like, if you’re good enough to manage that you’re not going to need the piddling 2 extra damage that the upgrade can offer. Overall it really felt like so much of the stuff you can find that’s optional is not worth it.
There’s like a relic system (like charms in hollow knight) but the way it costs out the various relics you can only really wear three at a time, probably only two if you want to use any of the useful ones.
And just as a minor nitpick on top of everything else, all the bosses are bigger versions of regular enemies that you fight in the area leading up to the boss. It’s not inherently negative when you do something like this in a game but when it’s every boss fight then it makes them less memorable and less interesting.
Also there’s like two ways to end the game, some npcs tell you to do things the proper way while there’s a couple who indicate this secret back route and imply that everyone else is lying to you. The thing is that like I finished the game and I would still have no idea how I’m supposed to escape through the backroute exit. The way the npcs frame it is like a skipping out on your responsibility to complete the tasks set to you for the rest of the game, but like if it’s weirdly more difficult than those tasks then something isn’t adding up.
I had a lot of complaints about this one. It’s fine if you put yourself into the right mindset, as I said up top the basic movement is pretty fun and the designs are cute. Difficult to recommend it if you like to experience this kind of game in the way that I prefer to though.
7. Growing Up
Tumblr media
This is a weird one to describe. It’s a game, as the name implies, about growing up. The game’s like broken up into different aspects. During each turn you get the opportunity to learn new skills; you start as a baby and have to learn skills such as talking and walking but soon you’re in school and your skills become more academic focused. At the end of a turn you schedule these tasks, completing each one a specific number of times can master it which will give you bonuses to your attributes and knowledge points to help facilitate learning new skills.
It’s a very mechanically focused game. Maybe I’m being a little too in depth with my explanation. Okay lets try again.
Each turn has like three major components. Learning skills. Scheduling tasks and exploring the brain map. The brain map is like a little minigame where you move along a randomly generated kind of sphere grid sort of upgrade tree, trying to optimize the attribute gains and bonuses with the limited amount of brain points you have. Since you do it once a turn each turn it’s like ‘okay what do I want to focus on this turn’ and you might always try to grab the thing that upgrades the amount of brain points you can have at any given time, but also skew towards knowledge points if you want to learn something new. It does encourage you to be thinking ahead towards your goals and as you play through the game new kinds of tile are unlocked which add dramatically to the complexity of this minigame and how you play it.
I think this game is very good mechanically. I really enjoyed the loop of learning skills, mastering skills, playing the brain map to try to optimize my ability to learn new skills.
The weakness in the game is the way the narrative is delivered. Which isn’t to say the narrative is bad. In my playthrough I got to befriend some good girls and then date and eventually in the epilogue marry my best friend Alicia.
(Also something of a sidenote but should mention that I got this from the humble pride bundle. It’s great that it does allow for gay and lesbian romances but it doesn’t seem to facilitate playing a transgender or nonbinary character. I’d love to see something added to facilitate that in a patch or free dlc.
(At the birth of your character you’re given the option to pick gender or to let fate decide. If you choose to pick you get to pick male or female. I wouldn’t want non-binary or transgender options added here, but like when you get to an age where you’re going to school to have some pop up or prompt that asks you if you feel comfortable in your gender or something like that and that sets you off along a path of transition. Or to have it opt in, an object you can unlock that allows you to schedule ‘self reflection’ or something that can lead you to a path to transition.
I understand that that might be a lot of work though, as there are a lot of characters in the game and making custom conversations for each of them to acknowledge your transition might be quite time consuming)
The other thing I wanted to point out in regard to it being on the humble pride bundle is at the beginning you can pick your parents. I picked to have two moms. The game allows this and is fine with it. There is however an unintended consequence.
Very early on, when you’re still a baby, I learned how to speak and got this cutscene where one of my mom was encouraging me to say ‘Mommy’ as my first word. And so I did and then my other mom was disappointed that I hadn’t said her name first. Maybe this is a one off oversight, because later in the game when I started dating my girlfriend she did acknowledge that we were both girls, but here at least they’ve not disallowed you to have gay parents but they haven’t made any specific accommodations for it.)
So the way that the narrative works is that the game is sort of presented in a semi-roguelike kind of fashion. It tells you up front that every life is unique and I think what it means is that at each stage of your life it will introduce one new character from like a stock set of characters. I met Jake at like primary school, Alicia at high school and Felicity at like college or something. All the schools were using american terms for the school levels so idk.
You get choices in each of these relationships that can branch them into slightly different directions (i think) but like your control over that interaction is minimal. If I’d been given the option I would never have spoken to Jake again. Not because he did anything wrong but just because I would prefer to be talking to girls. But the way the game is set up these events just sort of happen intermittently as you play and aren’t really informed by any of your decisions in the actual game you’re playing.
And your relationship with your parents is limited to occasionally they’ll give you a goal that you can complete to get a special currency you can turn in for some rewards. They don’t really have characters or expectations or preferences for you. Neither of my moms had like a desire to see me do really well at sports for example.
The other weirdest part is how okay at some point in the game you get two bars to manage. Happiness is your own enjoyment. Get it high enough and you’re relaxed and can schedule extra activities, get it too low and you’re stressed and you can’t learn new skills. And there is parental proudness or something. Get that high enough and you can get perks from them and I don’t know what happens when it gets toward the lower end.
Each activity you can do has some effect on both these meters. Studying will decrease happiness but increase parental proudness. Playing games will do the inverse. In addition to your main academic skills you have stuff like sports that you can gradually gain access to. And they reduce happiness but increase parental proudness. I learned how to start along a creative writing course and that reduces happiness but increases parental proudness. Hell I fucking learned magic (partially because I really liked the magician NPC Daz) and that does the same; decreases happiness but increases parental proudness.
I guess I can see it from a balance point of view but it feels so weird to be playing as a character with no passion. Nothing that they try to do makes them happy. I really feel like you should be allowed to find, or develop an interest. Like when your character is unhappy because they’ve been practicing their magic tricks for too long clearly something is wrong, right?
The overall vibe I get from this game is... you know those posts that circulate on here sometimes where it’s like “If you’re hacking the rules of dnd to do what you want then something is wrong. The mechanics are supposed to lead to the storytelling and if they don’t then you should be playing a different ttrpg where the mechanics do support the kind of narrative you want to tell/experience.”
The mechanics are good, the narrative is sometimes fairly interesting. They are essentially entirely seperate from one another and that’s a shame.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Tumblr media
(some brief spoilers i suppose)
i don’t fucking know man.
its good. its undeniably a good game. better in some ways than breath of the wild, maybe a little too padded out. i never felt a great compulsion to fully explore the depths. It was neat that they were there but they felt so empty. Just large open stretches dotted with huge monsters I don’t want to fight and sometimes I’ll follow a treasure map down there and it’ll lead me to a colliseum full of lynels and I’ll be kerbstomped so hard that it drains my will to continue playing.
That’s how I felt towards the end. The game does the same thing as breath of the wild where the longer you play the more silver enemies it spawns in and though its more managable with the introduction of sages I never found myself wanting to engage in combat.
I genuinely do feel like the silver enemies ruin my experience of the game. I feel like I’m making progress, getting stronger, feeling more capable of dealing with threats. Now that I have my sages with me sometimes I’ll actively seek out a combat encounter and not hate it. There’s this sweet spot where that’s all true for a little bit, and then silver monsters start showing up and my enthusiasm ebbs dramatically. I never killed a single lynel in this game. By the time I felt that maybe I was good enough to start fighting them they’d started spawning in silver versions.
All that said ascend is such a good ability that it sort of changed how my brain worked a little bit. Playing games immediately afterwards I would just keep thinking ‘oh i can just ascend up there’ and having to remind myself that no most video games do not allow this.
I think I had so much to say about Zelda. About how it feels like too much, about how sometimes you’ll just find yourself caught in a thing of not really accomplishing anything and come off feeling miserable, about the one afternoon where I spent literally hours in a pirate cave trying to solve a puzzle that didn’t exist. I think I’ve just exhausted all that in my brain and all my brain has left to offer is ‘just give me a fucking accessibility menu, let me turn down the damage and the health and turn what is a very good game that I sort of resent into an experience I’d actually like to play’.

Ngl, it’s stuff like this is why when I graduated highschool I tracked down my old elementary school classmates
The girl I had the biggest crush on, was one of my closest friends I’ve ever had, and we’d run around being crazy horse girls together on the playground- is a nurse at a hospice center now, loves K-pop, and doesn’t remember much about elementary school.
The boy who had a crush on me, I stabbed with a pencil, we’d run to the bus together while being yelled at by teachers, and would catch frogs together- still remembers me and now we keep in contact. He’s best friends with my little brother now, he escaped his mothers abusive household, has a house with his girlfriend in a whole different state and goes fishing at night for their dinner.
The boy who got me into diary of a wimpy kid books is now a band teacher and very dedicated to his job and his students.
A kid who constantly dotted over their little sister because they came from an abusive household and the youngest was constantly targeted, came out as trans and got her little sister from out of that situation.
The girl I’d hang out with at the pool who was normally shy and quiet at school but we would have a blast jumping off the diving board together and swimming like mermaids, is a model now.
One of my best friends in elementary school who is run around the playground with pretending to be a wolf with while arguing for teen Jacob against girls that liked team Edward is a accomplished flutist, model, and activist. We keep in contact and one of these days I plan to go hangout with her.
The girl who wanted to grow up to become a fashion designer and cheerleader, moved out early with her boyfriend and is a psych major now.
The boy I had to drag one of my cousins off from choking him because they were rough housing too hard (and I got in trouble because I accidentally choked my cousin in the process woops) is a university football player now
The kid who was super into football alongside him got an injury in high school and now travels the country as a successful pipeline welder.
A kid who was super into wrestling later became a state champ, and got engaged to a girl I was close friends with on my street who I’d go play Barbie’s with and pretend to be horses. However, her family was forced back to Mexico, and she misses her family.
A boy who was super into karate had to stop a little after I left the area. He never got back into it and is nostalgic about it on Facebook. He’s a grocery store manager now.
A boy who envied how good I was in art class, begged his mom to put him in classes and art camps. He’s now an award winning artist and far better than I ever was.
A kid who was bullied a lot for being short but incredibly spunky and good at gymnastics joined the military, he also deals weed on the side, came out as trans, and almost got killed by someone with a similar name as me.
A girl whose parents were really wealthy and I always envied, parents got a divorce and life got difficult. Briefly a cheerleader, but ended up getting her GED and now has a apartment with her lovely girlfriend.
Never ceases to blow my mind where we all ended up
Small thing that breaks my heart:
When I was in third grade, I told this boy that it would be my birthday in four days, and he said, “okay, then I’ll buy you flowers.” Four days later he comes up to me and says, “my mom wouldn’t let me get flowers but I found you this violet in the grass.” That in and of itself was iconic and so so sweet, but it gets better.
A month later, I had to move, and because it was third grade, the teacher made everyone write me letters to say goodbye. His said, “I hope you have so much fun in your new house that you forget about me. I hope that you’re always happy and you never miss us. I’m sorry I never gave you flowers, but I can give you some now.” And he fucking. Drew me flowers.
No, Joey, I never forgot you. You are the reason I have standards in this life, and I’m so grateful to have known you. I hope you’re happy, wherever you are, and I hope that the rest of your days are filled with as much joy as you gave to me. I spilled water on the card about five years ago, and half of it is a a jumbled mess now, but I still have it. It’s the only card I still have.
The funny thing is this dude and I hardly ever interacted. I knew he played football because he was on the town’s kids’ team and my brother was on the middle school team, and I knew he was one of, like, three Joeys in our year. I had a crush on him but obviously never communicated that because it was fucking third grade, but somehow those three interactions imprinted on who I am as a person. I am forever changed by Joey from third grade.

VICTORIA MONÉT - "ON MY MAMA"
youtube
Your Fun Pop Factoid Of The Day: the uncredited vocals on will.i.am's "I Got It From My Mama" are by Kat Graham.
[7.65]
Nortey Dowuona: I TOUCHED A JAGUAR'S SWAG AND NOW I HAVE A TAIL: STORYTIME [9]
Daniel Montesinos-Donaghy: The backstory for Victoria Monét's "On My Mama" may overpower the song one day: sat in the studio during COVID, battling postpartum depression, singing affirmations that she didn't yet believe. It's powerful, and now that it's a hit, it's the type of tale that pastors will add extra sizzle to, knowing it'll ring the congregation's bells. And yet, the song is slinkier and more pared-down than the built-in uplift would have you believe. Cheekier, too, zapped with tossed-off gags that are Monét's secret weapon: I always giggle at "[I] might be too fine to hit it from behi-yi-yi-yind". Ribald and heartwarming -- quite a combination. [8]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: The bassline's two-note filigrees are self-assured in their minimalist swerve -- effortless cool without lifting much more than a finger. "On My Mama" operates in this reserved mode for its entire runtime, capturing the righteous act of feeling yourself via Chalie Boy's "I Look Good." Ironically, the hook sounds constrained in this new context, trapped inside the hallowed gloss of triumphant brass. It's less thrilling when the instrumentation telegraphs that -- why let anything else explain that you're good enough? Still, this sleeked out take on Southern-rap braggadocio does find a moment of comparable excellence when Monét utters "sex game go stuUUupid." It isn't playful or horny, just domineering and cocksure; she doesn't sing that line for anyone but herself. [6]
Ian Mathers: Monét weaves so effortlessly and precisely among all the little bass pushes and gently peaking horns that it'd be easy to overlook how crucial her performance is here. But it is, and she nails the hell out of it. She rightfully mentions being deep in her bag, but this whole thing is also almost impossibly in several different kinds of pocket at once. [9]
Oliver Maier: Professional, fairly tedious, sounding so built for Tiny Desk that I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet. This would really benefit from some oomph, or at least some hi-hats. [4]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The bass doesn't slap quite as hard as I want it to. But really, that's the only note I have here -- Ms. Monét is so self-assured here on this slab of funk, stringing together one-liners that lesser artists would be lucky to get one of like she's got an infinite supply. I always want extended versions of pop songs, but I especially want one here. [8]
Alfred Soto: Like a suite in a four-star hotel, everything's where it's supposed to be: the horn section, the bass line, and Victoria Monét's polished vocal. From Jamila Woods recording her own Avalon and Corinne Bailey Rae her own Sign 'o the Times on one disc to K Michelle reveling in tradition, 2023 was a wonderful year for female R&B artists: they sing their bodies eclectic. "I think we deserve it, right?" Monét asks rhetorically. [8]
Leah Isobel: "I just wanna live in a fantasy," Monét sings, her voice burnished gold. "I think we deserve it, right?" This song -- by design -- makes me remember 2000s R&B and pop, the era of Ciara and "Do It To It" and Usher's imperial phase, when the whole industry's center of gravity briefly shifted to Atlanta. The welding of hip-hop's stance and production with pop's melody created what felt, at the time, like the most impossibly cool music I had ever heard, both celebratory and strong. That trend passed, as all pop music trends do; as I left childhood, pop music became more nihilistically post-human. I like that stuff, too. But "On My Mama" triggers a specific memory button in which I remember a version of the world in which it seemed like people could keep pace, if you were tough enough. Monét brings a soft allure to that fantasy: it could be good. It could still be good. [8]
David Moore: There's been a scourge of millennial hip-hop worship that somehow takes some of the most joyous music ever produced and reduces it to the great gray blob of content, just execrable nostalgia-mining of the lowest order for almost every major rap and R&B hit between c. 2002 and 2007, so how refreshing is it to hear a pitch-perfect post-Aaliyah minimal R&B performance with the period-appropriate accoutrement to match: is that a real horn section? Chopped and screwed ad-libs? Oh my god, are those punchlines?? "I'm so deep in my bag like a grandma with a peppermint / they say ooh she smell good, that's because I'm heaven scent." Perfect. [9]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: "On My Mama" is sexy, swaggering, and most importantly, fun. Victoria Monét's glow-up from Ariana Grande sidekick to Grammy Award nominee is the exact type of thing everyone should have predicted on their 2023 bingo card. Extra point for making me smile with "I'm so deep in my bag/Like a grandma with a peppermint." [8]
Kayla Beardslee: "I'm so deep in my bag, like a grandma with a peppermint / They say, 'Oh she smell good,' that's just 'cause I'm heaven-scent" isn't actually the lyric of the year... or is it?? [9]
Katherine St Asaph: Cocaine-decor sumptuous to an almost surreal extent. Wish Monét hadn't crammed all her good lines into the second verse, though. [7]
Brad Shoup: Starts off luxe and slinky, a getting-ready ode that annexes the club before she walks through the door, similar to Kelly Rowland's "Like This". After the first chorus, she's thoroughly feeling herself, and the jokes and vocal elasticism put her in Post Malone territory. Not a bad thing! Peak Posty would've avoided the triumphant "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" horns (his loss), but probably wouldn't have bothered sampling Chalie Boy after a perfectly fine interpolation. Feels like padding. [7]
Alex Ostroff: Any song with even a passing resemblance to "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" is always going to hit almost every pleasure centre in my brain. [8]
Michelle Myers: Jaguar II is a phenomenal album, but I'm hard-pressed to pick a single track that demonstrates how sophisticated and immersive this record is when experienced in full. It's definitely not "On My Mama." [6]
Rachel Saywitz: "On My Mama" isn't Victoria Monét's best single, but it's unsurprising that it's the one that's garnered the most critical and commercial acclaim. There's a homely essence to its meandering horn lines and grounding low rumbles, like the human-shaped indent on your grandparents' old leather couch that looks like it's been there forever. Here, Monét eschews her honeyed voice to command in a deeper, wiser tone, as if relaying knowledge from her elders onto a new generation, and I'd absolutely love it if I didn't already know that Monét is capable of more wondrous and sexy R&B. And yet, listening to "On My Mama" still sounds like a bit of a triumph. The song, along with its success, seems like a testament to all the work Monét has put in to get to this moment: you can hear, for example, the trademarks of her writing that are more widely known in the voices of others, such in the Ariana-like playful tilt of its second verse. For those fans who've been with her for years, it's hard not to think of "On My Mama" as anything other than a long-anticipated greeting -- a toasty home on a chilly day, a sweet smile and open arms, the words, "welcome home." [7]
Aaron Bergstrom: Man, to tell the truuuuth, my opinion is irrelevant. [9]

Autumn breeze weaves its way through the treetops. A full moon settles overhead, clouded briefly by the dark shape of bats, who chitter off into the shadows. It’s a night for spooks and creatures. The monsters have their own way of celebrating. A night of mischief, of laughter, of shrieks, of terror. You may not recognize them when you see them. A flash of pointed teeth in the smile of your neighbor, or a devlish waltz performed by the family next door. Tonight is the night everyone puts on their real faces. The mask is torn away. Monsters walk among us. On this, the most sacred of nights, we wish you...
Happy Halloween! 🎃🎃🎃
halloween headcanons under the cut
Lilith and Caleb Vatore love to play friendly neighborhood vampire. They mostly chill and watch movies, but they keep a bowl of candy by the door and the porchlight on in case any kids come by. It’s sort of rare in Forgotten Hollow, but they like to be prepared. Besides, word gets around that the spooky house has full sized candy bars, and suddenly a lot more people are knocking on your door.
Halloween is basically a vacation for the Sages, who spend all year long being surrounded by spooky stuff. They take the day off, pop some popcorn, and boot up a horror movie marathon. Simeon is actually a scaredy cat. L is into the really campy 80s slasher movies. Morgyn prefers their horror a little more artsy, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get scared.
The Goths throw an annual Halloween bash and invite everyone they know in costume. As usual, the Goths attend in the most stunning regalia. Cassandra takes her little brother out trick or treating early and is allowed to stay at the party until midnight, when she’s ushered off to bed. There’s always a surprise at every party.
Moonwood Mill has a big neighborhood party at the bunker. Candy, games, lots of stuff for the kids. It’s a little awkward for Rory and Kristopher (and Jacob), but everyone gets along on Halloween... except for the roided up toddlers who’ve stuffed their face full candy and are gunning for the local werewolves. In the kid’s favor, Lou is known for literally stealing candy from babies. (He’ll give it back!)
I’m extremely grateful to all the pose designers. I managed to see my vision come to life.

How do you think the saga would be different if every character (aside from 3 'bitches' 😒) wasn't written to immediately love and adore Bella?
I'd like to think Esme would be one of those 'no girl will ever be good enough for my son' mothers lol.
I think I would have liked Bella better, for one.
I don't know what it is about me, but I NEVER put myself in the main character's shoes. I don't know why. It's just not how I read or consume media. The main character, in my head, is just one of many characters and not my proxy, so books like Twilight that are, per word of the author, kind of designed with the main character as the reader proxy, a vessel through which the reader can experience the world, just don't work for me. I know I'm supposed to be thrilled by the attention Bella/I get from Edward, to be thrilled to be loved and welcomed by this rich, beautiful family; to be included in this group of boisterous, warm friends in La Push; to have this amazing perfect daughter I don't even have to raise; to get to be the best vampire ever.
But I don't read books that way, so the whole time I'm just like WHY is everyone bending over backwards for this girl? Why is everyone in love with her? Who IS she? I wasn't filling her in with my own personality and interests, I was waiting for her to be fleshed out (it took Midnight Sun for that to happen).
It just didn't feel realistic to me that everyone was 100% on board with Bella and protecting her and it was all no big deal and of course we'll do it, sweetie, and if they didn't, they were BAD. Rosalie is a monster for wondering if it's worth risking the whole family for this girl Edward has been dating for like two minutes. The wolves consistently show up for Bella when this is absolutely not their fight/not their problem and none of them have a problem with this apparently except Leah, who is framed as a 'bitter harpy.' Everyone at school wants to be besties with Bella the shiny new toy except for Lauren who, again, super bitch, apparently. Bella makes like zero effort to be friends with any of these human kids but they all still consider her a friend in Breaking Dawn and she just cuts them all out of her life and never thinks of or mentions them again; in New Moon, Jessica is ABSOLUTELY within her rights to cut off contact with Bella after that stunt at the movies where Bella approached that group of sketchy guys.
Alice is just like "yeah it must be hard to choose between Edward and Jacob!" like Edward isn't her brother and will be miserable for eternity if Bella picks the other guy. How on earth can Alice be neutral here and not be like "You're like a sister to me, but if you break my brother's heart I will never forgive you." It's so weird! The Cullens are apparently just not bothered at all by whatever she has going on with Jacob, none of them are skeptical or worried for Edward's sake that she's going to dump him? They're just 100% totally supportive?
Likewise the wolf pack is still willing to include her with things and be friends with her when she keeps choosing actual vampires over them? Why? Jacob didn't imprint on her. They aren't forced to hang out with her for Jacob's sake. I get their mission is to protect humans, but it seems more like Protect Bella than anything.
Leah shows up and yells at Bella for being selfish about Jacob, keeping him around when she knows it hurts him, and we're supposed to be mad at Leah for yelling at a pregnant lady rather than accept that maybe Leah has a point?
The idea that Esme might not think Bella is "good enough" for Edward is such a fun one. Rather than just "you are already a beloved daughter to me! Let me tell you my sad story and then we'll never meaningfully speak again!" maybe she's like "She seems nice Edward but Tanya can match you intellectually and musically and isn't a fragile human high school girl." Maybe Jasper is more vocally opposed to her presence like "I can't relax in my own home with this human girl around because I have to constantly fight the urge to kill her, maybe spend time with her somewhere else, Edward? Just because you seem to get off on torturing yourself needlessly doesn't mean the rest of us do."
Maybe Emmett is more on Rosalie's side? Not mean to Bella or anything but like "Rose ain't wrong about having this human around constantly putting us in danger, Eddie. I know you like her, but what about the rest of us? Is Ma or Pops or me getting killed by some nomads or wolves or the Volturi so you can stare dreamily at this girl really worth it?"
But none of these characters are allowed to experess anything like that because the fantasy IS that Bella is loved and accepted and instantly brought into this family, no questions asked (except Rosalie, whom no one seems to like).
It would help balance things more. And in a paradoxical way it would make Bella more likeable to me because there wouldn't be this weird bubble of protection and adoration around her. She'd feel more like a real person, a real character, when everyone else's "goodness" isn't dependent on whether they are Team Bella or not.

1. Majestic Rep Theatre, McCarter Theatre (I don't support them!), and Trinity Theatre
2. Ocean!!!!
3. I like everyone equally.
4. What The World Needs
5. Uranium Suite (I like it, just not a personal favorite.)
6. I'd rate Uranium Suite at the last, and Waiting for the Drop on first. Second is probably Tragic Fact, and third would be Fall Fair/Minor Turn.
7. Small Things Become Big Things (It doesn't fail to make me cry one bit)
8. Astrid!! (And Trishna)
9. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but Constance is so underrated. She's not talked about enough!!!
10. PassionRoses (Misha/Noel) and PerfectDolls (Ocean/Penny | Jane) :D
11. Maybe PerfectRap? (Ocean/Misha) I see them more to have this sibling dynamic (Older Sister/Younger Brother type of vibes), but I have no problem with anyone who likes it :P
12. Literally all of the American Tour cast. They're so awesome.
13. Favorite representation of PassionRoses is when they just have this huge bromance. They help each other with lots of things no matter what. Literally ride or die bros.
14. My favorite representation of Jane Doe is when they make her look so incredibly off-putting. I love the Janes that make her look so uncanny, ex. Ohio University's Jane Doe and Sarah Jane-Pelzer's!
15. There's no denying WTWN is extremely catchy, no matter how horrible Ocean's character is.
16. Other than the OG set and costumes, I love the costumes and set design in McCarter, especially Karnak's design (I don't support McCarter btw)
17. Every TBOJD performance. I love watching different ones because there's a tinge of uniqueness, especially how they sing her arpeggio riffing.
18. I headcanon Ocean to LOVE Taylor Swift. Like a die-hard swiftie. In the Works & Processing video, one of the directors (Rachel? Or Jacob..) mentioned that WTWN was heavily and specifically inspired by Taylor's style of music (pop). I just think when Ocean was in times of stress, she'd plug in her earphones and would listen to Reputation because it was one of Taylor's "savage" albums, and Ocean would get extremely motivated to continue on with her duties, humming to some of Taylor's songs on the way.
19. I don't have a personal theory, but I did find one that was really interesting (and adding to my own thoughts) -- Jane Doe, or Penny Lamb died before the rollercoaster disaster. I assume she was decapitated by something else. I haven't really thought about what cut her head off completely, but generally it'd be another accident, and no one left to find her. Police have given up on her and just called her "Jane Doe" because police are really shitty. Because of her death, her soul just roams around Uranium, not getting proper closure of her death. This went on until Karnak was moved and abandoned in the warehouse, and briefly found Penny's soul wandering the deserted fair, using his power to bring back her body as she happens to also be in a St. Cassian uniform, however in one condition: to participate in a game of life and death. Karnak continues to bring back the choir's souls in the warehouse to compete who gets to go back to Earth, including Jane Doe. This was ultimately strange for them because they didn't know who Jane Doe was prior to the disaster and couldn't remember who she was at all. Anyway, that's a personal favorite theory of mine. I think there's plot holes to it (I could tell), but I don't want this to be longer than it should.
20. There was this fic called "All The Boys Noel Gruber Loved" by @/baphomets_balance on ao3 and I thought it was a pretty good insight of how his previous life was like as the "only gay guy" in Uranium.
21. 4pplecore on TikTok and Tumblr!! Also sillyouhette on TikTok :3
22. I actually haven't made a RTC OC yet, but I would love to make one.
23. I've been thinking about this a lot halp,,, I think my catchphrase would be "That's amazingness!" and I'd be "The Most Curious Girl in town" because I'm really curious about things I like.
24. Ocean's whole-ass monologue before her song number.
25. There was this picture I saw yesterday on Tumblr with Jane's doll head as an accessory on a shelf, and was apparently singing 'Karnak's Dream of Life'. I would LOVE to see that because it's SUPER creative!?!
26. I haven't visited or watched CIVA charter's production yet, but I saw a video of them singing Uranium Suite and it was so awesome (also Blue Bridge!!)
27. Any slime tutorial that's on sight.
28. Nope :( Cons of living in the Philippines...
29. I would LOVE to play Ocean, but I just need vocal training...
30. My favorite part of RTC is its comedy in such a morbid setting and the beautiful lessons you can learn from it. Ocean's monologue when she was chosen to have the final vote was absolutely inspiring -- it just made me love life a bit more, and more accepting of death because I lived life well, and had one hell of a ride, and it was worth it. And the fandom is very accepting, I hope it continues like that.
Ride The Cyclone Ask Game!!!
Just some fun little questions!! Please do rant as much as you want with any and all of your answers :D

dream smp high school au and what they'd teach:
i had to get it out of my system but i'm so happy with how these turned out
mr notfound: engineering (the engineering teacher never really teaches and kinda sits in his office but the entire school simps for him so there's always a teacher hanging with him. his curriculum is free form and an easy A but genuinely pretty damn fun)
mr. nap: gym (hes the nice gym teacher who says screw the pacer test and rope climbing and you guys just play basketball after running like 2 laps. he's super gullible and will let anyone sit out for any semblance of pain. that is until the film teacher comes into the gym, then he's a tryhard beating freshman up to make layups on lowered hoops)
mr. wastaken: physics (the coolest class that always does crazy expiriments with large falling objects and questionable usage of dry ice, people always think his experiments are fake but he'll be the first to give a class long lecture on why every single piece of his work is 100% accurate. there was this one incident when he used the engineering teacher to explain torque and it ended with mr. notfound being caught in his arms. there's pictures but he still denys it.)
mr. blade: advanced english lit (mr. blade has no time for freshmen and if he does like a frosh into his class they've gotta he the damn best. his class is based on old literature analysis and storytelling. his favorite unit being greek mythology. most of his assignments aren't just boring essays or stressful discussion. no one truly knows what mr. blades class is like until you've taken it, they're often heard chanting "blood for the blood god" before exams but the principal is yet to do anything about it.)
mr. awsamdude: comp sci/coding (sam is the teacher everyone adores, there's usually at least two people crying in his office before and after school but he always knows what will cheer them up! he tries to work closely with mr. notfound but he's busy with the physics prof so sam has gotten really close with his TA tubbo. they do all kinds of coding competitions and his class is known to be a safe haven for students of all kinds- "coding is for everyone!" he always chants)
ms. nihachu: art (known for the classroom with the best vibes niki insists on dropping the ms. and formalitys. she's the teacher with lofi playing and bean bags and couches in her beautifully decorated classroom. she has an open classroom meaning anyone can come in anytime and she is dedicated to making sure no one eats lunch alone. a couple times a year she goes on a huge rant about loving oneself and the value of not judging others, needless to say everyone adores her - especially the theatre kids as her class is constantly helping them with set design)
mr. soot: music/theatre (does he have a degree? unknown. does he teach anything besides music? couldnt tell ya. mr soot roams the halls during class hours that aren't his one choir period; popping into various classes to pretend to be a student or just all around goof off. his theatre program however, one of the best. he makes the most extravagant plays and musicals with barely any budget. after his show goes on he goes dark for like 2 weeks straight "recuperating" but no one questions because that kind of genius needs resting)
mr. frost: math (ant and red would TOTALLY teach math together and it would be so cute everyone would see them walk in and out of school together and ship them and their classroom would be a safe space for people to come out or even just hangout. ant would be a crazy good teacher who is understanding and not one of those asshole math teachers. he's the one everyone always wants to have haha)
mr. jacobs: film/freshman history (mr jacobs is the freshman heartthrob and senior best friend. he teaches film as history, film as lit, and frosh history - basically the easiest classes, but he makes them the most fun. in his lit classes they watch cartoons and search for literature similarities or historical evidence. in his history classes he goes on grand lectures often standing on tables to reenact his favorite history moments. occasionally he brings in his friends to re create a massive fight in front of all the history classes, it's scuffed but everyone always looks forward to them)
ms. puffy: head counselor (ms puffy is the sweetest soul and often is helping students with everything from their personal lives to college. she assigns the TA's and classrooms and works closely with mr minecraft to make the school as conducive of a learning environment as possible.)
mr. minecraft: the principal, the big man himself, mr fuckin minecraft. (he constantly looks sleep deprived and exhausted but he loves the students and teachers with his whole heart. he takes no shit from annoying parents or asshole students and is known to ban the entitled cruel students from all his favorite teachers classes, leaving them with the worst teachers. usually he can be found telling dream he can't have more money for explosives, begging wilbur to sleep and rest, and telling techno he's gonna have to teach a english 9 class eventually. that and dealing with his new TA's.)
our lovely teacher assistants:
ranboo: english TA (thought he was gonna get art with niki but puffy out him with the blade. originally he was terrified but he's growing on mr. blade with his deep analytical thoughts and similar dry humor. granted- he does have the most work of all the TA's because mr. blade makes him grade all the multiple choice tests, but he's really starting to love the english classroom.)
tubbo: comp sci TA (tubbo had been begging to be sam's TA since freshman year where he took almost all the coding classes in one year. plus, the computer science room is right next to the physics room in the science wing so he can pop over and see tommy all the time. tubbo and sam stay in the computer lab way later than philza should allow but they've made magnificent codes for the school. everytime tubbo points out he's graduating soon sam starts to tear up, but he knows tubbos gonna do big things, he's just gonna miss his goofy TA.)
tommy: physics TA (the pounding philza got on his office door when tommy didn't get wilbur was ground shaking. puffy and philza calmly explained that tommy has a knack for physics if he would just focus and genuinely learn from dream. "big D" as tommy calls him, wasnt jazzed either. their year as TA and teacher started rocky but dream would come to realize that tommy is more talented than he lets on and after speaking to wilbur and puffy he realized there was a damn good reason he was given tommy. he took it upon himself to turn tommy into the best student he could be. and tommy isn't one to back down from a fight. little did he know this year would be the best year yet.)
i'm so happy with this and i actually think i might expand it idkkkk :)))

What did you think of UD, in comparison to The Quarry? Better, worse?
I honestly feel like right now I can’t choose one over the other. They both have aspects imo that they do better than the other.
Until Dawn is the original, Until Dawn was that bitch when released and it still holds up well now. I’ve made some incredible friends over that game and it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. Overtime, you definitely notice more flaws like things in the story not making too much sense, but it’s still a super enjoyable experience. I also really missed those silly little flash intros with their traits, and personality/relationship bars more than I thought I would. Until Dawn did have the best twist and turns of any of their games, though. The flamethrower guy and Josh red herrings, just for the main baddie to be the girl we screwed over in the beginning and she ate her sister? It’s just absolutely an insane ride the whole time.
The Quarry blows its werewolf load kind of early and the Hackett’s aren’t even that threatening until they suddenly pop off in the house because? yeah? The Quarry does have some stronger characters and dynamics. I like that characters don’t just stay in their designated couples and actually talk to others. The actors did a great job of making the writing flow naturally and seem like actual people/friends. While the first half is a lot stronger than the last half, I do like the variety added to your survivor combinations with infections. After doing Blood Pact, I definitely think that’s the coolest run to do.
Until Dawn has a much more structured ending but I do appreciate The Quarry’s efforts to mix it up a bit. It’s cool to me that you can completely miss Chapter 10 by not having any playable characters, but the “best ending showdown” with Silas felt way too sudden and lackluster. The way there’s no resolution for Laura/Max, the ones who start it all for us, unless you get a “bad” ending is infuriating. Ryan never gets any real closure with Dylan and Kaitlyn. Emma and Jacob are also a specific formula to get reunited.
I think the most disappointing thing though is the advertising. They made it seem like it’d be more versatile than it was with “anyone can be the hero”, and gave the impression there’d be minimal plot armor. Then, they give plot armor and repeated the Matt and Jess treatment to Nick and Max. I do know COVID restrictions ended up cutting some stuff though, so I can’t fault them too much for that. Hopefully with the way the cast loves being a part of the game so much, we could get DLC in the future lol
Regardless, I know people will probably claim Until Dawn is better no matter what The Quarry did, since UD was and still is iconic. Still, I really enjoy and love The Quarry, especially with the more I’m finding out. And Until Dawn will always be one of my favorite games of all time. End of the day, I’m just happy I have two really great games to play.

Hiii do you mind writing about the reader who's three years younger than tom and she's his co-star, they have a sibling-like bond and tom constantly likes to annoy her on set??
oh my goddddddddd oh my god oh my god i loved this 😭
“tom, get out!” you squeal as he chases you around your trailer. he barged in with a water gun and hasn’t stopped shooting you with it. “don’t you have, like, work to do?” you’re trying to block your face while you run. “i don’t, actually. it’s my break!” tom happily informs you. he corners you in and squirts more water, leaving you drenched.
it’s your last week on set of no way home, which you’ve learned is the designated prank week. you’re new to the group, and no one thought to prepare you. you’d found out when you caught jacob sticking a whoopie cushion on your chair. he’d told you let the pranking begin before scurrying off.
the whole cast and crew participates, especially tom. he’s the leader of it all. he usually likes to play his tricks on harry because he has the best reactions. plus, he lives for bugging his brothers. this time around, harry stayed back in london, so tom had to get himself a new target. that would be you.
it makes sense, considering the fact that you’re like a little sister to him. tom wasn’t sure how to feel about having a younger castmate at first. he’d worried you might not fit in or get along with everyone else. thankfully, the reverse happened. everyone fell in love with you the moment you’d all met. you were open to hearing any advice they had, eager to please on set, and joked around a bunch.
you’d quickly become part of the spidey fam.
tom pretty much took you under his wing, since you spend so much time together. you’re playing one of peter’s classmates. of course, most of your scenes are with him. that includes some stunt sequences, which he’s extra protective over you when you film. he constantly makes sure you’re okay, and reminds jon to go easy on you.
the only time tom isn’t caring and sweet is when he’s teasing the hell out of you. for example, right now.
“damn, it’s out,” tom huffs, tossing his empty water gun on your couch. he chuckles at the sour face you’re making. “i really got you, didn’t i?” your clothes are so wet, they’re dripping onto the floor. “no, i like my shirts see through,” you quip back. “and stop laughing! wardrobe isn’t gonna find this funny.”
tom waves his hand dismissively. “love, it’s water. they have to wash your costume anyway, right?” you roll your eyes in response, biting back a smile. “you’re just giving them a head start,” he concludes with a pat on your shoulder. you let yourself grin this time. “aw, you have an answer for everything. how about you explain this to them?”
“sure,” tom hums. “about when do you wanna pop over?” “now, i guess,” you sigh, starting to ring out the hem of your top. he checks his watch and hisses. “ooh, i can’t. i’m due back on set in a bit.“ your mouth drops open, and he earns a slap at his chest. “tom! you did this to me! the least you can-“ “relax! ‘s a joke.” he holds up his hands in defense.
“you’re literally the most annoying person i know,” you tell him lightheartedly. tom puts a hand on his heart in mock offense. “be a little nicer to the guy who’s gonna save your ass.” giving your damp shirt another ring, you scoff. “my ass wouldn’t need to be saved if the guy in question wasn’t so annoying.” “hey, i’m not that bad,” he mumbles back.
you look around the trailer for your regular clothes. you’ll change into those before giving back the ones tom ruined.
“yeah, i know. it’s a joke,” you repeat his words from before with a smirk. he points a finger at you. “touché.” “seriously, though. why am i the only one you’ve pranked?” you wonder, gathering your socks and sneakers. “tony seems pretty into this, or even z. do them.” tom watches you lace up your shoes and smiles to himself.
“the others can’t handle it like you do. they’d probably tattle on me to jon,” he jokes, finally getting a laugh from you. “and, because i love you.” “you have a weird way of showing it.” you finish tying your laces with a shake of your head. tom gives you a look. “love you, too,” you correct yourself. his look settles into a fond one, holding open his arms. “c’mere, then.”
“nah, i don’t wanna get you wet,” you decline, just to irritate him. it works, tom exhaling a frustrated breath. “so? it’s only fair. i’ll deserve it after the lashing wardrobe gives you.” “you said they wouldn’t care!” you gasp and storm back over to him. once a little giggle slips out of him, you stop in your tracks. “kidding... again,” tom clarifies. he keeps his arms out for you.
“jesus,” you mutter, but accept the hug nevertheless. you wind your arms around his neck, his going around your middle. you’re sure to bring tom in close so the water from your shirt gets on him. it’s not as successful as you’d hoped it would be. it’s still satisfying, though. tom gives you one final squeeze that makes you feel like you can’t breathe.
“happy prank week, y/n.”

Nev, Max, Help!-Nate Jacobs Oneshot
Requested: Yes
Warnings: aggressiveness and rudeness from Nate and a brief panic attack scene
A/N: The reader is gender neutral since the requester did not specify what they wanted and I did not want to disrespect the storyline from the show. Also, it’s a long one.
Tumblr media
For once, Amy Winehouse’s low, melancholy voice did nothing to soothe my nerves as I typed what I was looking for in the designated box. “Love is a Losing Game” was definitely not the best song for the mood but I loved her voice so much; it was like a really messed up security blanket for me. My thumbs shook as I kept typing and quickly deleting my words.
  Someone to have fun with.
No, that’ll bring every single creep to my profile.
  Someone to watch Netflix with.
Ew, no, they won’t want to go anywhere or do anything.
Someone to discuss Maya Angelou with...
This could go one of two ways: attract a sensitive, nice person or the ultimate softboi who was really just an f-boy in a sensible cardigan.
Okay, Y/N, just add to it.
...and have adventures, great conversations, and watch the best movies.
That seemed broad enough and, potentially, weeded out all the weirdos. Patti Stanger would approve of this. I took such a deep breath that I could feel the oxygen in my feet as I pressed the green check mark. An adorable buffering sign appeared before being quickly replaced by a CONGRATULATIONS, Y/N/N, ON COMPLETING YOUR PROFILE.
The air came out of me slowly, like a balloon, and I tried to make myself relax as I swiped through different matches. One person was too short, the other too tall, another had way too many pictures with reptiles in his profile, and one’s bio simply read: DM and you’ll find out.
  Serial killer much?
“That’s part of your problem, Y/N,” Jules had chastised me a few day prior.
“What do you mean by ‘part’?” I’d replied.
“Well, for one, you barely leave the house anymore unless I drag you out,” Jules argued.
  “I’m busy,” I’d defended.
“Rewatching Breaking Bad for the eighth time does not count as being busy. Plus, you’re so picky.”
  “Am not!”
“You said you’d only do DiCaprio in his Great Gatsby days,” Rue had added.
“Did you see him in that suit?”
Jules then shrugged. “All I’m saying is if you aren’t careful, you will end up all alone.”
“That’s not true, Y/N might get cats.”
That conversation had haunted me since and had driven me to making a dating profile after the required Saturday night family dinner. While my parents and brother were downstairs watching a movie, I was holed up in my room, cringing and regretting accepting any chat requests.
Half an hour on the app caused the images of various male genitalia to be burned into my mind. I would need my brain soaked in holy water for it to be erased. I huffed and kept scrolling, vainly hoping and wishing for a decent guy to pop up on my radar.
Maybe Jules and Rue were wrong. Maybe I had all the right in the world to be picky, I thought harshly to myself.
I dropped my phone on my nightstand and flopped against my pillows as Me and Mr. Jones began playing. I sighed and felt myself being lulled into the comforting abyss Amy created.
   Ding!
I jumped out and glared at the source of the noise. Another chat request, another picture to ruin my young brain?
“Be positive, Y/N, this might be good,” I stated as I grabbed the phone.
  Tyler wants to chat!
I frowned and opened up the app, only to be met with the most sculpted six-pack I had ever seen. My heart began banging against my chest and my thumbs fumbled for a moment to answer the chat request.
  Whoosh.
My stomach dropped as I stared at my first chat to Tyler: Shg.ismtle
  I’m. Going. To. Die. Alone.
I quickly typed: Please ignore that, I’m so sorry!
  Seconds later, my phone dinged.
Tyler: Really? I thought you were trying to send me a secret code and I liked that we were that cool already.
This was not real, this could not be happening. Tyler had to be a bot, that was why he didn’t show his face in his profile. Bots were supposed to have a hard time recognizing and creating faces, right?
But, on the off chance Tyler was real, it would have been rude to leave the conversation so abruptly?
Y/N: Who knows? Maybe it was a secret code and I’m just testing you.
Tyler: Ok, let me guess what it means.
   Tyler: Hi?
Y/N: Haha, you really thought I’d use such a simple code as a first message?
Tyler: It’s my bad for underestimating u. I should have known u were smarter since you read Maya Angelou.
  Y/N: U a fan?
Tyler: “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
He knows Angelou? He could have Googled a quote though. Still, it’s a good quote to use if he had Googled it.
Y/N: Nice, but, doesn’t get u out of the guessing game.
As Tyler helplessly guessed wrong for several minutes, I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. I used to think online dating was a last resort or a breeding ground for predators. But, maybe there were decent people looking for something (or someone) meaningful after all.
Tyler: I give up, you’re really good.
Y/N: Thx. But, I can tell you what I meant to say.
Tyler: The suspense is srsly kiilling me.
  Y/N: I meant 2 say hey.
  Tyler: I guessed that!
   Y/N: No, u guessed ‘hi’, there’s a difference.
  Tyler: C’mon, barely.
For the rest of the night, Tyler and I chatted. He told me that he plays baseball at a school across town and he doesn’t like anyone around there. He liked John Mulaney stand-up, lemon bars, going to the gym, hanging out with his friends, and reading good books. He was an only child and his parents tended to spoil him. I told him about my friends and how I liked being on the swim team at my school as well as the different YouTubers and books I enjoyed. When I finally fell asleep, I dreamed of talking to him.
On Monday, Jules and Rue were hanging out outside the school as other people either headed to class or relaxed on the lawn. I could not stop my feet from bouncing as I walked up to them.
“...and that is why Sailor Mercury is the most underrated character of the whole show,” Jules affrimed.
Rue seemed halfway interested as her head nodded slowly underneath the hood of her burgundy hoodie. “Cool, all I asked was who’s your favorite but, cool.”
Jules rolled her eyes playfully and straightened up when she saw me. “Hey, Y/N, nice shirt.”
“Thanks.” I wore a sky blue tie dye shirt with ripped jeans and white Converse.
Rue leaned forward and squinted at me. “You’re not wearing black, something’s wrong.”
“Nothing’s wrong, she’s obviously been influenced by me!” Jules teased as she wrapped a slim arm around my shoulders.
“Yeah, you can only hang out with this literal rainbow human so long before she starts influencing your outfit choices.”
We started heading inside, which was really just Jules and me dragging Rue into the building.
“But I don’t wanna be here. It’s so stupid that I have to wait six more months before I can legally decide where I spend my time,” Rue muttered.
“It’s fine, you have us!” Jules insisted.
   “Yup!” I agreed.
“Hey, Y/N, Rue, Jules!” Cassie greeted as she sidled up next to me.
  We all greeted her.
“Have a good weekend?” Rue asked.
“Yeah, there was this great party that Nick Davis threw. I swear, everyone there was on acid.” Cassie stopped herself and bit her bottom lip. “Sorry---”
Rue shook her head. “It’s fine.”
“How were yours?” Cassie asked as we continued to our lockers.
  “Fine,” Jules said.
  Rue shrugged in response.
I opened my mouth to reply when my phone beeped and I wrestled it out of my pocket.
Tyler: Is it 2 late 4 a good morning text?
  I smiled.
“You’re so cheesy,” I muttered under my breath.
“Who’s that?” Cassie asked, peeking over my shoulder.
I jumped and cradled my phone to my chest like it was my child. “No one.”
Jules pulled open her locker and cocked a bleached eyebrow. “‘No one’ does not cause huge smiles like that!” She jabbed a sparkly-manicured finger at me.
“Yeah, show us,” Rue said. “We are your friends.”
“It’s nothing,” I insisted as I weaved around them.
I pushed myself against my locker and managed to open it with my free hand. Rue was on one side of me and Cassie was on the other.
“Is it a boy?” Cassie sang.
  “Or a girl?” Rue questioned.
“It’s none of your business,” I gritted out as I grabbed my necessary books.
As I shuffled the books in my arms, Jules came from behind and slipped my phone away from me. I gasped, whirled around, and watched as Rue tried to look at the phone while Cassie playfully blocked me.
“Guys, this is not cool! This is such a serious invasion of privacy,” I argued as I tried to move around Cassie.
“We’re besties, there’s no such thing as privacy!” Jules retorted.
“Wow, Y/N, these are so----” Jules cut Rue off.
“Adorable!” Jules squealed and turned to face me.
Cassie took the opportunity to glance at my phone and she smiled. “Aw, this Tyler guy sounds so sweet.”
I snatched my phone from Jules. “Well, now you know. Can we please go to class now?”
As the other girls grabbed their things from their lockers, I got out my phone to reply to Tyler.
  Y/N: It’s never too late...until noon technically.
Somehow, I started wandering away from the girls until I ran into someone. I tried to jump away, but they grabbed me by the forearms.
“I am so sorry, I should have looked where I was going---” I stopped speaking when I recognized Nate’s direct gaze on me. I was pretty tall but I always felt like he could throw me into the lockers if he wanted to.
  “Watch it, Y/N,” he muttered.
“Nate, let go of them,” Maddy chided, her hand resting against one of his arms.
She seemed to have the magic touch because he relaxed and I joined my friends. As the couple continued down the hallway, I couldn’t help but admire them. In a very messed up way, they worked. Kat had told me only a little about what Nate would do whenever Maddy upset him and I felt so bad for her, angry at him, and then conflicted. Nate just had to have that stereotypical amazing all-American look.
  “You okay, Y/N?” Cassie asked.
“Yeah, is it weird that I can still feel his eyes on me even when he’s not looking?” I asked.
“No, his need for dominance permeates everyone’s sense of autonomy,” Rue assured.
  “Nice,” Jules said.
  “And scary accurate,” Cassie added.
Jule looped her arm with mine and steered us in the direction of our first classes. “Anyway, if he tries anything, I’m sure Tyler would gladly kick his butt for you.”
Throughout the day, Tyler and I chatted and I even had to get creative with responding. In English, I kept my head down during quiet reading time and made sure my phone was positioned just right in my lap. During geometry, I told Mrs. Packer that I was having some digestive issues and spent most of the class outside the bathroom, texting Tyler. At lunch, I could barely focus on my friends’ conversation.
“Hello, Earth to Y/N?” Lexi waved her hand in front of my face and I blinked.
   “Sorry, I was----”
   “Texting her boooyfriiiend,” Jules sang.
“He’s not my boyfriend, we’re just talking.” I started poking at my sandwich. “What did I miss?”
“Oh, nothing, just the fact that I nearly blew up the school during chem,” Cassie said.
“Magnesium chloride isn’t an explosive,” Lexi argued.
“Well, the tube overflowed and everyone was freaking out,” Cassie argued.
“Yeah, because magnesium chloride can have bad side effects,” Lexi continued.
“I wonder what would happen if the school exploded and we weren’t all here? Would they have to give us our diplomas?” I thought outloud.
“Ooh, and I could go to fashion school early!” Jules cheered.
“I’d be happy not coming here anymore,” Rue admitted.
It was quiet for a moment as we all ate but that quiet was broken when Maddy yelled.
  “WHO ARE YOU TEXTING?”
I couldn’t help myself but look. Maddy was standing behind Nate, who was sitting with his teammates at the center table. Bebe and Kat flanked Maddy a little behind. Everyone stared at them. Nate’s jaw tightened.
“Maddy, calm down,” his relaxed, controlled voice nearly echoed in the silent cafeteria.
“DON’T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! YOU’VE BEEN ON YOUR PHONE ALL DAY!” she snapped.
  “Maddy---”
“ARE YOU TEXTING OTHER GIRLS?” Maddy shouted.
“Can we talk about this somewhere else?” Nate asked.
Maddy sighed. “Are you gonna let me see your phone?”
  “Maddy, we need to talk.”
  “Don’t talk to me again.”
Before Nate could respond, Maddy dumped the contents of her lunch tray over his head and threw the tray aside. Kat and Bebe followed her as she strutted out of the cafeteria amid the shocked gasps.
“I’m gonna go check on her,” Cassie whispered.
We all nodded and she quietly exited the room. As I stared at Nate, the supposed king of the school, drenched in soggy salad and fat-free milk, I wondered why he could never stay broken up with Maddy. Their relationship was not just toxic, it was volatile. Their breakups were always public and outrageous, but they always ended up back together. No one questioned it either. I never understood why people could continue to choose relationship they knew was bad over pursuing something new. I told Tyler as much that night.
Y/N: It’s like those dogs that get killed by electric fences because they keep walking into them.
Tyler: U have a good point, but, that couple’s relationship is more complicated than u think.
Y/N: Probably, but, it doesn’t look that way. They hurt each other a lot.
  Tyler: How do u know?
Y/N: Bc I’ve seen it. I don’t mean 2 b judgy, but, I could never be in a relationship like that.
Tyler: Well, I don’t think anyone would b if they knew it would b bad.
Y/N: Good point. But, why would they get back together so much?
Tyler: Idk them, but, it could b bc it’s familiar and it’s what they know.
  Y/N: Still, it’s messed up.
Tyler: Yeah, but I don’t wanna talk abt them anymore.
Y/N: K, what do u wanna talk abt?
A few seconds later, Tyler sent me a picture so graphically beautiful that I was convinced I passed out.
The next day, I showed Rue and Jules the picture during break time.
“Holy crap!” Jules took my phone and leaned into it for closer inspection.
 “Tyler is packing,” Rue agreed.
Jules slid my phone back to me. “You haven’t replied to him?”    “No, and he hasn’t talked to me at all today.”
“He’s probably expecting a reply that’s similar to what he sent,” Rue said.
My face warmed up. “I can’t send him nudes,” I hissed.
“Why not? It’s like the greeting cards of our generation,” Jules stated.
“Really? You’d send your grandparents a greeting card of your naked body?” I replied sarcastically.
“Relax, if you’re uncomfortable, we can help you,” Jules assured.
  “We can?” Rue asked.
“We can.” Jules gave her a look and Rue relaxed.
“It’s still weird, but, I guess you guys can come over after school.”
“Sweet! Your mom still bakes cookies for you after school, right?” Jules asked.
  I nodded.
“She might stop once she learns her darling favorite older child is sending nudes,” Rue snorted as she spoke.
I recoiled in my seat, taking a second to bask in the sun’s warmth. “Don’t remind me.”
After swim practice, once my teammates left the locker room, I eyed my naked form in the mirror. I had nothing to be ashamed of, really, thanks to all the swimming, but, I just felt weird being naked in front of people. There was something so vulnerable about it, like, being on display in a museum or lying on a cold surgery table. But, online dating was supposed to get me out of my comfort zone and I’d found someone who’d made me feel comfortable enough to do it. With this resolve, I changed into a hoodie and some sweatpants and left the school. It was dusk and I typically walked home after practice since it wasn’t far. Plus, I’d told Jules and Rue to just go to my house after school.
The late breeze rippled past me and I dug my hands into my pants’ pockets as I started walking towards the parking lot. There was barely anyone around, except stoners hotboxing their cars, some couples making out, and dance team members and football players getting out of practice.
I kept my head down as I maneuvered around the few cars and people around. It felt like someone could spot what I was about to do once I got home and it was nervewracking. All I had to do was get home, let Jules make me look even better, take these pictures, and never thinking of it again.
“Something on your mind, Y/N?” Nate called.
I froze and snapped my head up to look at him. He was leaning against his truck, looking like a model for Ford in only a tshirt and jeans. Ford should hire him.
   “No, not really,” I said.
I started to side step the truck, eyeing the sidewalk that was only a few yards away as though it was a lifeline.
  “Get in,” Nate ordered.
I paused and looked at him. “Excuse me?”
“I see you walking home all the time, let me do you a favor, one athlete to another.” Nate was about halfway in the driver’s seat of the car and all I could do was stare.
“We’ve...never really talked before,” I stated.
“We can talk during the drive.”
I stepped back and my eyes flittered around, like the best decision would hit me in the face. Then, I saw Maddy across the lot. She was standing with a couple of dance team girls, including Cassie. She stared me down as though daring me to do it. I glanced from her to Nate, who started the engine loudly.
I quickly climbed into the passenger’s seat and stared into Maddy’s reflection in the rearview mirror as he pulled out of the parking lot.
“How do you know where I live?” I asked.
“You forgot that I gave you a ride before?” Nate asked.
  “When?”
“After Cassie’s sweet sixteen. You blacked out, your friends were panicking, and I offered to take you home. For some reason, you remembered your address,” Nate recalled.
  “Oh, thanks?”
  “Sure.”
We pulled up to my house a few minutes later, Lil Wayne bragging about his conquests filling the quiet. I hopped out of the truck and grabbed my bag.
“Thanks for the ride, this one, I mean, I owe you,” I said.
  “Yeah, see you around, Y/N.”
I closed the door and headed inside.
  “I’m home!” I called.
My mom poked her head out from the kitchen. “Y/N, how was school and practice?”
  “Fine.”
  “Was that Nate Jacobs outside?”
  I hesitated.
How did she know what Nate’s truck looked like?  “Yeah, he gave me a ride today.”
“Aw, isn’t that sweet? Rue and Jules are waiting for you in your room. They took the cookies with them.”
I nodded and went to my room. As soon as I walked in, they bombarded me with questions.
“Why did Nate give you a ride?” Rue asked.
“What did you guys talk about?” Jules inquired.
  “Don’t you hate him?”
“He’s kind of a dick, but, unfortunately, super good looking.”
  “Did Maddy see?”
“Do you think she’s gonna kill you?”
“Guys, I don’t know but I do know that if you do not take amazing pictures of me with no clothes on soon, I will delete my entire profile,” I interrupted.
  They both nodded.
“But, we will ask for details later,” Jules insisted.
“Okay, but, please give me a cookie, I’ll need it to get through this.”
Rue extended the plate towards me and I bit into the melty goodness as Jules began doing my makeup. It was simple, only bringing out my best features. I made them both turn around as I undressed. Once I had, Jules encouraged me.
“You look amazing, I would be shocked if he didn’t jizz in his pants,” Jules said.
“Lower your voice, Y/B/N can only play Five Nights at Freddy’s so loud,” I hissed.
Jules held her hands up and Rue direct me to lay on the bed, my phone held up in front of her.
  “Okay, look sexy,” Rue said.
I tried to smolder, but, by their expressions, I did not achieve it.
“No, like, pout your lips, like, you just heard that TheOdd1sOut is not uploading for a month,” Jules directed.
“And give the camera bedroom eyes, you know, as though it’s Tyler.”
“Okay.”    After a few pictures, I slowly got the hang of it and even started posing a little naturally.
“Oh my gosh, Tyra is shook!” Jules cheered.
“Yeah, these are pretty good if I do say so myself.” Rue handed me my phone and I flipped through the pictures.
She was a talented photogrpaher and I joked that maybe she should go professional.
“Yeah, I’m sure I’d have a nice clientele.”
I laughed as I changed back into my hoodie and sweatpants. “Okay, help me pick one to send.”
Jules took my phone and she and Rue began scrolling.
“No, the lighting’s off in this one,” Jules muttered.
“No, it’s never off in any of these,” Rue argued.
“I’m not shading your talent, I’m just trying to find the best thing for Y/N to send Tyler.”
After a little more bickering, we all agreed on the picture and I sent it to Tyler.
“Should I follow it up with something?” I asked.
“Maybe say ‘Wrong person’? Guys want what other guys want,” Jules suggested.
“Or say ‘Sorry for the late reply’,” Rue added.
“I’ll go with Rue’s, sorry, Jules.”
  Jules shrugged.
I sent everything off and my friends and I watched as Tyler typed a response.
Tyler: It was worth the wait ;).
We squealed so loud that my mom yelled for us to keep it down. We apologized as we descended into a fit of giggles. Through it all, I could not help but feel so bouncy and light all over. Was I...falling for this total stranger?
“What do you think he looks like?” Jules asked during lunch later that week.
I shrugged. “It’s different every day, if that makes sense.”
“I guess that’s the nice thing about interacting with someone who doesn’t show their face,” Jules thought outloud.
“How do you see him now?” Lexi asked.
I sighed. “Right now, I think he’s tall, six feet at least. He’s got a mix of blonde and brown hair like a surfer because it’s lightened from all the time he’s spent in the sun. He has green eyes, freckles, and he dresses well.”
“Sounds amazing,” Jules said as she rest her chin in her hand.
Rue nodded slowly. “You’re not nervous or anything?”
“No, this is so cheesy, but, I feel like I know him, you know? He’s so easy to talk to and has so much to say.”
“Y/N’s blushing,” Jules teased. “Do you love him?”
“I really, really, really, like him.”
“Do you think you’ll meet soon?” Lexi asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know, neither of us has brought it up.”
“Well, it just matters that you’re comfortable, okay?” Rue said.
  “Okay.”
If I was honest, I did not know if I wanted to meet Tyler. I knew that I liked him more than I liked anyone before, but, there was something strange about breaking this wall the internet provided us. It was freer to talk on the internet than it was in person. What if I said something stupid in front of him? What if he thought that I looked different in person? What if he looked different in person?
I managed to keep these thoughts at bay for the rest of the day until I got home. Post-dinner had been officially declared Talk to Tyler Time. None of my family knew what I was doing besides blasting Amy Winehouse in my room for about an hour. My laugh nearly overpowered her high note in “Best Friends, Right?”. I had to blink away my happy tears as I replied to him.
Y/N: That did not happen!  Tyler: Yes it did! Do u want 2 c the scar????
 Y/N: No, I think I’m good.
I wiped away my tears and settled under the covers. I wondered if his friends would agree that Tyler gets into some weird situations as well. Just as I started typing, Tyler beat me.
 Tyler: I want 2 meet u.
The speed that I launched my phone away from me almost shocked me more than the text.
  Almost.
My heartbeat thrummed in my ears. This was it, I knew I couldn’t avoid him much longer, but, I felt like I couldn’t move. All I could do was stare at my phone like it was the most offensive object in the world. Slowly, I regained mobility and grabbed my phone. I took a deep breath.
  “Take a chance, Y/L/N,” I whispered.
  Y/N: When and where?
“You’re meeting him tonight?” Jules squealed the next day.
I hushed her as people in the hallway paused to look at us. “Not so loud.”   “But this is so exciting. Please let me help you decide what to wear,” Jules pleaded with a pout.
  “Sure,” I said.
Jules hugged me. “This is going to be so fun. I won’t go crazy with glitter since this is the first time you’re meeting this guy.”
 “Thanks?”
“Do your parents know?” Rue asked.
“No,” I replied as I slowly pulled away from Jules. “They’re coming Senior Night tonight, though. and I’m going to meet him at Mercy Park an hour before it ends.”
“Are you sure you even want to do this? I know that Jules and I tease you about your love life, but, this is risky,” Rue said.
“You weren’t saying that when you were helping me with those pictures the other day,” I shot back.
“That was different. You’re...you’re actually meeting him now and he could be a psychopath or a sociopath or, just, a creepy old guy who likes to look at teenagers!” Rue insisted.
“Rue, relax, everything’s going to be fine.”
“You don’t know that!” She turned on her heel and hurried into the bathroom with Jules and I on her tail.
When we entered, Rue was leaning against the wall, panting and staring up at the ceiling. Jules and I approached her slowly as the girls who were in the bathroom quickly filed out.
“Rue, slow down your breathing,” I said slowly.
“I...I can’t. You-you could get hurt or something and-and I would know about it an-and I-I couldn’t live with that!” Tears burst from her eyes as Rue began pacing and Jules and I were close but gave her room.
“Rue, Y/N is going to be okay, we both know what time she’ll be at the park. If anything happens, we’ll know the area she could be in,” Jules assured her.
Rue shook her head and stopped in her tracks. Then, she looked between us helplessly before bowing her head and sobbing. Jules and I carefully hugged her and let her cry.
“I’m sorry that I’m scared and I care about you and I don’t want you to get hurt,” Rue mumbled into my shirt.
“It’s okay, I appreciate it. I really want to meet Tyler, though, and, I promise I will let you know if something happens, okay?”
  Rue nodded and sniffled.
It took Jules about an hour to make me look amazing. I had no idea my hair could be so fluffy and put together until she was done with it. She used eyeliner to make eyes look bigger and rounder and added sparkly lip gloss to make my lips look plumper. After she contoured and highlighted the best places she deemed that her work was done. My outfit, a fitted forest green long-sleeve shirt and fitted black pants with Jadons, was also approved by her.
“Tell me everything later!” she insisted.
Rue couldn’t join us since she had “prior commitments” but I texted her that I would let her know when I head to the park and when I leave. My nerves didn’t let me focus on the soccer game my parents insisted I joined them and my brother at. I couldn’t care less that the forward on one team got a yellow card or that the goalie on the other team made illegal blocks. I was practically buzzing with excitement and fear so much that I had to give my pretzel to Y/B/N. Finally, the third quarter arrived and I told my parents that I would meet them at home since I’d promised Lexi that I would help her with some homework.
Lexi wouldn’t mind being used for a lie this one time; it was an emergency.
I tried to practice some calming deep breaths as I walked over to the park. The dark night sky provided a little bit of comfort to my walk. I wondered how different Tyler would look from the picture in my mind. I wondered if he thought I would look any different. Maybe (hopefully) it wouldn’t matter to either of us.
Finally, I reached the park. It was empty, save for the oak trees scattered throughout the lush green scenery that seemed mysterious under the mooonlight. A few benches and wooden tables were around as well, but, Tyler and I had agreed to meet at the fountain which was further in the park. The breathing exercises had to have helped because I felt much more relaxed and I hoped that everything would go all right.
When I got to the fountain, there was a tall person facing it. All I could make out were dark clothes and broad shoulders. I took another deep breath and kept walking.
“This is a nice spot, you have good taste,” I commented.
“I could say the same for you.” I stopped in my tracks as Nate slowly turned to face me. His face was unreadable but his eyes stayed on me.
“What? Wh-where’s Tyler?” I asked, my voice already hoarse.
Nate glanced down at his shoes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know how else to talk to you.”
I shook my head. “No.” My vision got blurry but I could tell that Nate was looking up at me now.
“Just let me explain,” he requested softly.
He took a step towards me and I took two steps back .
“I don’t wanna hear it. This....this is some sick joke to you or something?”
“No, never, Y/N, just listen to me.”
“I don’t want to!” The tears rolled down my cheeks and I swiped at them so hard that I thought I scratched myself. At least I could feel something because my heart felt numb. “You catfished me!”
“I just wanted to talk to you, I really do like you, Y/N. Tyler and I are the same, just different names,” Nate insisted, coming closer.
For some reason, I didn’t move. I didn’t know if it was from emotional exhaustion or stress, but, I let him approach me. I kept shaking my head.
  “No,” I hiccuped.
“I wanted to meet you tonight because I was tired of lying. I want to figure this, us, out,” Nate said.
  I sniffed. “Us?”
At that moment, I could actually see his face and Nate seemed so hopeful. There was a slight smile on his lips and his eyes seemed light for once. Maybe he wanted there to be an “us”. Maybe, despite all logic, he wanted to talk to me seriously and could not do it offline because of his reputation. Maybe, he was over the on-again-off-again situation with Maddy. Maybe, this was my chance, our chance.
I wiped my face again, mentally cringing at how upset Jules would be for my ruining her masterpiece.
“Yeah, us.” Nate stepped closer to me, gently wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me into his chest.
Gradually, my muscles relaxed and I relished in the feeling of his strong upper body and his warmth. Then, I began to feel pressure on my waist and gasped as it intensified.
“Nate, you’re...squeezing...too hard,” I rasped out.
And he started laughing, no, cackling. As he laughed, his grip tightened and I continued gasping and clawing at everything I could.
  “Nate...stop!”
But he kept laughing and squeezing. When he finally released me, I looked up and saw nothing behind his eyes. Everything in me told me to run, but, I knew he could have easily caught up to me.
“I really thought you were smarter than that, Y/N. C’mon, you couldn’t honestly think that I would do all this to be with you,” he sneered.
“So why do it then?” I asked, my voice so small that I could have kicked myself for it.
Nate sighed and folded his arms. “Because you made it so easy and, to ask for a favor.”
“What? That makes no sense,” I argued. “I told you I owed you one that day you gave me a ride!”
“Yeah, well, I needed to make sure that you were available when I needed you.”
“Whatever, screw you,” I hissed as I pivoted on my heel.
“Too late for you, you’re already screwed.” Nate pulled out a folder from inside his jacket pocket. “Remember those special pictures you sent to Tyler? Well, they count as distribution of child pornography, which has a hefty fine and sentence.”
My mouth opened and closed several times before I faced him and responded. “But...but you held them, doesn’t that count towards possession? And, you’re extorting me!”
Nate glowered at me and stormed over. “Heresay, no solid evidence for your case. Plus, I’m a Jacobs, so, who are you kidding?”
I felt so sick to my stomach that I could have thrown up, fainted, or cried at that moment. This was not real, this could not be real.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Like I said, just be available when I need you.”
  “Fine.”
“Sorry, what was that?” He gripped my chin his hand and forced me to look up at him.
  “Okay,” I said softly.
“Hmm.” His eyes scanned my face before he released me. “And if I ever hear you judging my relationship with Maddy again, these pictures are going to be the least of your concern.”
I nodded weakly, regretting every single thing I ever told him. Nate Jacobs was truly the devil. He wandered off into the night like a centurion leaving a victorious battle. It seemed like he always won.
I managed not to start crying until I was on the empty sidewalk. No, I sobbed so bad that my throat went dry.
How could I have been so stupid? I should have known it was him that day Maddy yelled at him for texting all day.
  Stupid, stupid, stupid!
My sobs continued as I grabbed my phone and texted Rue.
  Y/N: U were right.
