Rosewood Readathon Day 8!!

Chapter 21

- Lottie getting the Portman job is supposed to be a scene that’s so exciting for her but it just kills me to think of Jamie wishing he could save Lottie from it

- And of course Lottie taking it as Jamie not thinking she’s good enough. He’s trying to protect you!!!

- Portmans are this big royal secret but making Lottie a Portman is basically giving up that secret forever because they all know she’s going to eventually have to be revealed as a Portman ??? Did that make sense

Chapter 22

- Can Lottie not get access to melatonin or something??

- Princess lessons!! Anyone else remember that rwch animatic of the Barbie song about being a princess? Did I hallucinate that?

- Raphael being Jamie’s first friend outside the castle is so important to me

Chapter 23

- I would do anything to go to the Rosewood library are you kidding me.

- Lottie immediately being jealous of Ellie getting along with Saskia, this girl is in love

- I feel like they make the not sleeping thing into a bigger deal than it is??? Lottie could’ve easily gotten some sleeping pills or something weeks ago and fixed it. Insomnia is common especially in students but to Ellie and Jamie this is the end of the world

RWCH Readathon 2024:

Undercover Princess - Prologue

This is genuinely to this day, my favourite introduction to a series, to characters, to anything I've read. It captures the entire essence of the series in just 6 pages.

The opening paragraph alone captures how intensely this whimsy and wonder can impact a person or a space

Reading it at 14 years old, I decided right then that I was going to be one of those people who can make anyone believe in themselves and have the power to change and achieve anythign and everything

The cut to then Eleanor being the complete opposite, "in desperate need of both" is such a beautiful and simple way to bring the reader back to reality and introduce Ellie to us.

Shes passionate and determined and stubborn, but we also see how scared and desperate she is to have control in her own life without the pressure of her duty, something that is echoed everywhere in the series.

The lines surrounding Aston Court, reading with knowledge of what is to come has an air of heartbreak and despair that she would have to give up everything about who she is.

I adore the detail that she is only refered to as Eleanor thriughout this prologue, despite her mum calling Alexander 'Alex', Eleanor isn't given the same comfprt in a nickname, it's like she's always playing a role here.

The build up of how Alexander expects her to act, and how Eleanor would go kicking and screaming juxtaposed with 'Please Dad' not only affects her parents, but the reader too.

We become to familiar with her reputation as a wild child in the first few pages that already we have the same assumptions as we see later that the media has, only we get let into her vulnerability here.

I adore how much of this chapter is subtle foreshadowing, or a little wink nudge nudge to those of us who have already read the series, even this early on. But I won't lay it all out here right now.

The chapter ending in "we can always send in Jamie" always makes me laugh because yeah I guess but why didn't he just go anyway? I get not giving her freedom but surely thats easier to explain?

In summary, this prologue is genuinely one of my favourite parts to the book and I can't wait to read everyone else's thoughts throughout the readathon.

Rosewood Readathon Day 5!

Fixing your math grade is like entering a different reality. I have weeks of my life from like january to april 2022 blocked out because i just spent all my time doing maths. (ended up with a H2 though so hehehe go me). So I feel you Lottie

Bimdas anyone?

I remember being 12 and thinking this math equation was the most confusing thing in the world. Now though I feel like I could solve it if I put my mind to it. Or else I'm just gonna give it to my friend who's doing a maths degree and see will it knock his ego down a few pegs

I don't think I've mentioned this before but I love how Lottie is a huge fan of fairytales. She is like me frfr (except I'm a huge fan of Irish/Celtic mythology)

Break in time!!! What a fun little scene. However, it says they got completely soaked going through the river so how did they not get caught in the morning assuming they left a trail of water after them?

Also what a bunch of nerds going to the library on the orientation day. Never forget we are reading about pretigious, rich nepo baby nerds everyone. (I still love them all with my entire heart)

Finished the cursed melodies last night, and I have thoughts...

So first of all, ASTRID AND GWEN AAAAAAAAAAA THEY'RE SO CUTE.

The main trio are so cute together and I love their dynamic, especially Jonas being so begrudging about their bond with Gwen, actually hilarious.

I enjoyed most of the side characters tbh and Jan and Thomas are so cool, they could definitely have their own spin off show where they just chill and study tree spirits.

Now, onto the apples of my eyes *sigh* Magnus and Elijah~ these fuckers are gonna be all I think about for the next 6-9 months, I am obsessed and simultaneous wish we could have had more from them. Especially Elijah, I need to know he's not just a silly goofy baker so I can write mountains of fanfic about the two of them, I will not elaborate.

Magnus my beloved, protector of prodigy children pop offfffffff

Lorelei is soon cool too! But I want more of her too! I could read a whole book about the adults in this, especially a prequel about the rapscallions oh my lord-

I did not see the twist coming at all lol, right up till the last moment lol, I was on the edge of my seat as always thanks to Connie.

I'm low key very upset they didn't kill the dragon and it just flew away? 😭 Like seriously, I get that there needs to be a villain in book two but I wish it could just be something different, or leftover traitors etc.

I think that's all my thoughts for now, but I'll be back lmao 😂
