I only speak two languages, and I guess I picked up some programming, game design and sound engineering knowledge over the years, but that's pretty much it.... the thing is i’m more than smart enough to be an expert on pretty much any topic, with a degree and all that jazz.

but i don’t want to focus on one thing, i crave knowledge, i want to know about everything so i instead no the basics about just about everything, and i think that’s just as good as being a expert on one thing

You! Internalize that you do not always need to "improve your art/craft" now! It's great to learn and develop your skills, but you do not need to come from a place of hating where you are now! You certainly do not need to force yourself to improve if it is coming in between you and enjoying the things you do. Improvement for improvements sake does not have to be the only goal, nor the only one that "should matter"

You are allowed to have motifs, enjoyment, ameturism, and "less skill." Kill and devour the capitalist in your head that dictates that you must always improve for everybody else's sake and your "productivity."

i like drawing horses! just never really get the chance to. i was a horse girl (gender neutral) when i was younger (not as much as my sister. she was THE horse girl)

i really feel like if i could just stick to one thing and really practise at it and dedicate time to getting good i could get REALLY good. but unfortunately my brain only allows me to do enough of one thing at a time to get Pretty Good at it before i get bored of it and won't do it again for months or years while i get Pretty Good at some other things.

kazuha has the isshin sword even though i have an aquila favonia cause that goes to kaeya who i built because i like him, even when he did lower damage. i run kazuha as a dps even though he’s supposed to be support (i have a p well done diluc that does more normal attack damage but.. kazuha :] and kukis supposed to be like a hyperbloom driver i think but i have her as healer. my baizhu is currently using her set cause i like the burn reaction (w benny, who i still haven’t built properly (just a ton of er for burst stuff) and only use for pyro applications lmao) even though he’s supposed to be like. a sub dps. he and kuki probably work well together but i can’t hear that over the sound of my burst support childe who ran freeze with kaeya for an embarrassing amount of my early abyss runs. i still haven’t attempted floor twelve and unless i get my shit together i don’t think i will. strategy i hardly know her, i just go “unga bunga men pretty” and that got me to ar 57. i have yet to level my mona despite her being a great support (she does have a r5 dragons tales for when i want childe to look pretty against the pyro flower but that’s it) and my xingqiu still doesn’t have good artifacts. my team ‘comps’ are “dps dps.2 sub dps/applicator healer” and i have not strayed from this in my entire time playing. chongyun is objectively bad for my current playstyle but that has not stopped me from trying. i will get a freeze team with him xingqiu and maybe kaeya if it kills me

i was discussing some of these a while back with @v-arbellanaris but they’re still on my mind... some ideas for dragon age subclasses...?

mage:

hedge mage - you have spent much of your life on the run from chantry control, and survival has been a better teacher than any dusty book. a “jack of all trades, master of none” ability lets you learn limited spells from other specialisations, and you have access to a stealth skill tree

glyph scribe - you are a learned expert in the arcane, and glyphs are a second language your enemies won’t understand until it’s too late. you have access to a unique skill tree of glyphs that react when your enemies step on them. you may cast one—or more, as you level up—during the pause at the start of combat

primalist - fire was your childhood plaything, the earth is putty in your hands, and lightning always strikes twice if you ask it nicely. you have increasing bonus damage in your element of choice. your elemental AOE attacks have wider range, you may ignore enemy resistances to elemental damage, and your elemental spells cause no friendly fire no matter the difficulty

rogue:

templar hunter - you were once a deadly weapon in the hands of the templar order, bringing back its most feared apostates dead or alive. whether or not you regret the past, you cannot leave it behind. you have access to a templar skill tree, some of its abilities exclusively possible to use at long range

dog lord - like all great fereldan warriors, you are never better than with your trusty hound at your side. you gain an animal companion, though unlike rangers, you level up your mabari as you progress rather than unlocking different types of animal. you can also equip kaddis warpaint on yourself instead of a helmet, providing further buffs to you and your mabari

enhanced soldier - you were born ordinary, but that doesn’t mean you have to remain so. you supplement your skills with powerful potions brewed by secretive alchemists or your own careful hands. you have access to a unique skill tree, with a variety of potions that temporarily boost your stats and attack speed or allow you unnatural power. to improve them even further, collect special ingredients from areas of the map where the veil is considered thin

half-golem - you are a failed experiment. attempts to recreate the golems of old left you with thick stone skin over parts of your body. you cannot equip armour or weapons. instead, you equip crystals that help you inflict and resist different types of damage, and have access to a unique skill tree that supports your natural armour and powerful unarmed attacks

Tim is not any kind of a doctor, and definitely is not a geneticist or an engineer or even a stressed-out intern. Or any kind of specialist in any related fields, either. And it took all of those things and then some to build Kon. 

But if Tim was any of those things, he’d only be one of those things, and he wouldn’t be having any luck right now, now would he. 

Kon can’t have kids, is the thing. Biologically, obviously. He says he doesn’t care about that. Says he’ll be happy if they have kids via Tim and a surrogate, or just adopt ones who aren’t related to either of them at all. He just wants to take that step together; wants to have that together. 

Tim believes that, but he also knows how alone Kon feels sometimes. How alone he’s felt in his own family, as the only one who was made the way he was. The only one who felt like he had to earn a place there, and didn’t just have it by right.

By birthright.

And he doesn’t want him to ever feel like that in their family. 

So right now he’s not a doctor or a geneticist or an engineer or even a stressed-out intern, but he does know much, much more about DNA than he did as a grief-stricken teenager in a basement. 

So he’s doing something about that.
