The last episode of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy tv version aired on February 9, 1981. The 6th episode recalled the events following the crew's departure from the Resteraunt at the End of the Universe. In divergence from the radio play, the crew found themselves in a stunt ship about to plung into a sun instead of in a battleship at the lead of an attack fleet. The show then realigned with the radio show with Arthur Dent and Ford Predect ending up on Ark B and then stranded on prehistoric Earth. (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, TV Event)

These aren’t necessarily books that were published in 2022, just ones that I read for the first time this year and absolutely loved. I am already craving a reread of several of these and would whole-heartedly recommend.
In no particular order.
The Jumbies - Tracey Baptiste
The Ones That Got Away - Stephen Graham Jones
All These Bodies - Kendare Blake
The Last House On Needless Street - Catriona Ward
The Smashed Man of Dread End - J.W. Ocker
Heart-Shaped Box - Joe Hill

Spoilin' for a Fight

Transcript of recording made backstage at Corroded Coffin concert - Starplex Ampitheatre, Dallas, TX, Aug 5th, 1996
Eddie Munson (Lead guitar & vocals): You were off.
Jeff Williams (Lead vocals and rhythm guitar): Where are the black towels?
Gareth Jones (Drums): Excuse me?
EM: Your timing was off!
GJ: Yeah, time for the old man to get his ears checked.
JW: Don’t we have a dozen black towels on our rider?
EM: My ears are fine, your timing however—
GJ: You’re going senile, you can set your watch by me.
EM: Yeah well that’s not much use to me if you’re playing in a different time zone, is it?
Matt Morrison (Bass): There’s no Cherry Gatorade either. And your timing was definitely off, you were throwing me all over the place.
GJ: Well maybe it wouldn’t be if he wasn’t out there playing like Yngwie fucking Malmsteen! See that? That’s a grey hair I didn’t have when you started that solo. I was worried I’d never see my kids graduate.
EM: So you admit you were off?
GJ: You know, sometimes you’re a real (inaudible)
JW: Jesus Christ. Calm down, dude.
GJ: I’m calm!
MM: And there’s no Sprinkle Spangles.
EM: You have one job - keep the fucking time. That’s it. Not that hard, man.
GJ: Oh, not that hard? What are you, Neil Peart now?
EM: I couldn’t be any worse than you.
GJ: Go fuck yourself, Eddie.
JW: Gareth! Come on.
(Sound of door slamming)
MM: Let him go, he was pissing me off as well.
JW: You weren’t exactly on top of things yourself, man.
MM: I beg your pardon?
EM: I could hear your bass.
MM: You’re supposed to hear it!
EM: I don’t need to hear that much of it!
(Sound of door opening)
GJ: And if we’re critiquing one another, you were flat and Jeff was pitchy as hell. And Matty, there are four strings on a bass, try using the other three.
EM: Yeah, sure, whatever.
JW: Nothing wrong with my vocals, dude. Stick to your own lane. And Eddie’s right, your timing was all over the place tonight.
MM: You know something, I’m going to make sure my amps are right up tomorrow night, drown you assholes out completely.
GJ: I wasn’t off!
MM: The Bud is warm. What the fuck is up with this venue, man?
EM: We give you a solo slot to show off your chops, when it’s my solo just do your fucking job.
GJ: You give me a solo spot so you can all take a piss! Let’s not pretend it’s some gift from the band to me, you want a bathroom break.
MM: To be fair, the audience needs a bathroom break, too.
JW: Not helping. And Eddie, he’s right, that solo was longer than we planned.
GJ: Thank you. There’s only so many hours a man can listen to that shit before he loses concentration.
EM: It was the same solo I played in Houston.
MM: It was definitely longer.
EM: Well even if it was, and it wasn’t, your supposedly professional musicians. If I’m improvising, and I wasn’t—
JW: You absolutely were—
EM: I wasn’t! But even if I were, you should all be able to adapt and keep up with me. All you have to do is stay in the groove. You were like fucking… he was doing some weird fucking jazz thing out there, for God’s sake.
GJ: I was trying to keep us all awake! You should be kissing my feet, I was bringing much-needed energy to that shitshow. Did you see the audience? They looked like they were all on fucking Ambien!
EM: Fact remains, you are a drummer. You have one job - keep time.
GJ: Oh that’s my job? I just keep time?
EM: Yes?
GJ: I bring nothing else to the table?
(Long pause in recording)
MM: You make great lasagne.
(Laughter can be heard)
EM: You do make great lasagne.
JW: I’m pretty sure he buys that in.
GJ: Oh fuck you, I do not!
MM: Did anyone find the black towels?
EM: Just use a white one for Christ’s sake.
JW: We have them on the rider—
EM: It literally doesn’t matter!
MM: It’s the principle, dude! Today it’s black towels and Cherry Gatorade, Tomorrow it’s your Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil shampoo.
EM: If that ever happens, the venue is blacklisted. That’s no joke.
JW: I need to talk to Phil (Jackson - Band Manager), I’m fucking done. I need my black towels.
(Sound of door opening)
MM: Ask him about the Gatorade! A man could die of thirst here.
GJ: There’s water right there, dude.
EM: And Bud.
MM: But I want Cherry Gatorade. Why is that so hard to understand? It’s on the rider for a reason. I need hydration after—
EM: Then drink the fucking water!
GJ: How much hydration can you need? You stand in one spot all night!
MM: I beg your pardon?
GJ: Am I wrong?
MM: Yes! You are!
EM: I’m staying out of this one.
(Sound of door opening)
JW: Okay, towels are coming, they were in another dressing room.
GJ: Fucking amateurs, man.
MM: What about the Gatorade?
JW: Shit. Forgot, sorry.
MM: Son of a bitch.
EM: Can someone explain to me what the fuck is wrong with the water?
GJ: Wait a second… some fucker’s recording this!
(Sound of tape clicking off)

Wasn't A'ja and Phee's podcast with JWS? There is definitely more to the JWS post and her response than on the surface.
Woah! You're right. I thought A & Phee was a Players' Tribune production like Haley Jones' show. But you're totally right. It was JWS. Honestly that does change the context a lot. Now I've got even more questions.
What did that JWS podcast contract look like? Could A'ja and Phee make more episodes of that show independently? Or does JWS own the show title?

Ok, all my thoughts on the new Jurassic World news:
I like Jurassic World, I am glad it's continuing.
I'm glad that we're getting a new writer and probably director. I like Colin Trevorrow but I also want someone new on the helm for variety sake.
David Koepp is a fun choice given his history with the series, but I'm not jumping out of my seat thinking he'll save the franchise or whatever. He wrote the Mummy reboot and the last two Indiana Jones after all.
They're being vague with whether it's a sequel series or a full reboot. I hope it's not a reboot, there's no image in my head of a modern version of Jurassic Park that has any value beyond nostalgia milking. The universe is big, tell new stories, not the same one we saw decades ago.
I hope they put some care into the dinosaurs, my biggest problem with the transition from the JP series to the JW trilogy is the nose dive in amount of research given to creature design.
And that's about it. It'll probably be close to a year before we get any actual information on the movie, so I'm saving any hype for later, but color me happy that there's more to look forward to in the future.

The 2023 BET Awards began Sunday night with a bevy of rappers and artists set to honor the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
Coco Jones, Doechii and GloRilla have been nominated for awards and are set to perform. Iconic rap groups and emcees including MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Kid ’n Play, Master P, Remy Ma, Yo-Yo and the 69 Boyz will take the stage, too.
On Friday, BET announced Busta Rhymes as the recipient of the lifetime achievement award. Patti LaBelle told Rolling Stone she will perform a tribute to the late Tina Turner at the ceremony. Turner died in May; she was 83.
Though there will not be a host, DJs will cue performers and celebrities to take the stage throughout the ceremony. TV and film writers, including those who might normally work on the BET Awards, are currently on strike over pay and working conditions.
In May, the MTV Movie & TV Awards aired a pre-taped show without a host due to the writers strike. The Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose, was also unscripted.
The 2023 BET Awards Pre-Show Gets Off To A Rocky Start
Tumblr media
The 2023 BET Awards is having some absolutely horrific sound issues at its pre-show special. It sounds like a static-y mess as performers hop on the stage before the awards ceremony begins at 8 p.m. ET. JW Velly, the artist behind the viral TikTok song “Pretty Girls Walk,” performed to a crowd outside the Microsoft Center seemingly without a hitch to the audience, who cheered her on. But at home, several HuffPost reporters – who were watching through livestreams and on the BET Network itself — were struggling to understand anything. Unclear what exactly is happening — but at one point the sound completely went out.

D-Nice Is A Rapper? How Late Are We?
D-Nice raps? Where I been at lol. A little hip-hop history for me. I just knew him as a DJ. Dope to know he had a whole rap career in the '80s. — Taryn

MC Lyte Steps From Backstage To Center Stage
THE VOICE IS ON THE MIC! MC Lyte has been the voice of the BET Awards for years, so it’s so good to see her onstage doing the damn thing. — Taryn
Yes, she’s always behind the scenes doing her thing so it’s great to see her take the stage. — Erin
Makes my heart so happy. Haven’t seen her o- screen since her “Half and Half” days on UPN! — Ruth
What’s wild is that she has a whole TV show! “Partners in Crime” on the streaming service allBlk. — Erin
The BET Awards Red Carpet Looks … I Am Closing My Eyes
In the words of the late, great André Leon Talley, it’s a famine of beauty. I did not anticipate struggling this much to assemble the 2023 BET Awards best-dressed list. — Ruth
Patti LaBelle Forgets Lyrics During Tina Turner Tribute
I was so excited when it was announced that Patti LaBelle was doing the tribute to Tina Turner. Well, it quickly took a turn for the worse when I could hear the background singer over her. And then she was stumbling over her words. My word. I’m surprised she took it in stride without that teleprompter. They shoulda had Angela Bassett get up there for all this. — Erin
“I’m trying, y’all!” —Patti LaBelle trying her damnedest to tribute Tina Turner.
This felt like when she sang at the 1996 White House Christmas tree lighting ceremony and was looking for her background singers. Because of how much I love that video, I was low-key getting my life. But then I remembered this was supposed to be THE Tina Turner tribute because it was Patti LaBelle signing it and on BET.
They did Tina dirty and I don’t like that. I know there have been sound issues all night, but damn! It’s almost as if there were no sound checks at all with all these blatant hiccups. Ms. Turner, I am so sorry. You deserved better. — Taryn
Christ on Earth. What is going ON?! Exactly that, Taryn! I couldn’t tell if the audio was tripping again, or if a background singer was doing too much. But I’m in disbelief. It makes me wonder if she was a last-minute selection for the tribute, or like you said, Taryn, there was maybe one rehearsal. And the way Patti just exited the stage and said, “Bye, y’all!” I need a meme or GIF of that. — Ruth

R.I.P. Biz Markie
I’m LOVING this tribute to Biz. Singing along with the TV and everything. I can tell BET is about to do hip-hop right with this tribute. — Taryn
I have a fun memory at a party deejayed by Biz Markie. He was the DJ at The Root's inaugural ball for President Barack Obama. My mom and I had a ball that night. — Erin
It Is Culture's Biggest Night On BET
The BET Awards begin at 8 p.m. ET, and HuffPost reporters and editors will be watching to keep you updated on all the biggest moments of the night. Stay tuned to see who stuns on the red carpet, who takes home an award and whose performances set the stage ablaze.
The night is set to include an epic tribute to the rappers and artists who made hip-hop culture what it is today to celebrate hip-hop's 50th anniversary.

After a successful radio series, then book series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy made the jump to television on January 5th, 1981. Most of the principle cast of the radio series kept their same roles - Simon Jones (Arthur Dent), Peter Jones (the Book), Mark Wing-Davey (Zaphod Beeblebrox), and Stephen Moore (Marven the Paranoid Android) - but Ford Prefect was recast to David Dixon as the producer didn't consider Geoffery McGivern weird enough looking and Trillian was recast to Sandra Dickenson due to Susan Sheridan being unavailable. The show also kept the same theme, but with a new arangement. The first episode followed the introduction of both the radio series and book series, with Arthur Dent trying to prevent his house from being knocked down only to find out his friend was an alien and the Earth was about to be destroyed to make a Galatic Bypass. ("Episode 1", The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, TV, Event)

15. 16. 17. 18. For the movie asks, please and thank you!
Woot! Thanks for the ask 🍿
Tumblr media
15. Oh my goodness, can I say Lost? No, not a movie? Ok. 😉 I am going to go with Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Saying aliens did it is as bad as "it was all a dream". Also it is completely off brand.
16. I have to go with the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It has grown into a comfort series I can watch over and over again and really introduced me to the larger Star Wars universe. Plus I have a great memory of seeing The Force Awakens in the theater. I even liked Poe before I knew who Oscar Isaac was.
17. Jurassic Park! Hear me out. The practical effects are amazing. It was the first to do so many things, like use impact tremors to foreshadow something big coming. There are great details like the genetic code shining on the raptor's neck in the control room. And the T-Rex is an absolute queen! I'll never get enough of her. I would have rioted if that genetically engineered monstrosity had won in the last JW movie.
18. Seven Pounds. Just no. I can't even enjoy jellyfish in an aquarium anymore. (If you know, you know.) It's too much for me.

──୨ৎ──BREAKING NEWS──୨ৎ──
Hey chic chicks, some dramatic changes happening at the big brands..
As Of 10 Sep, Sarah Burton Is Now the Creative Director of Givenchy.
What's going on?
British designer Sarah Burton, who left her position at fashion house Alexander McQueen after an entire career of working with the brand, has been appointed as fashion company Givenchy’s New Creative Director.
The facts:
~ On December 1, 2023, Mathew William announced his departure from Givenchy to pursue other projects. After becoming creative director of the fashion house in June of 2020, eventually leaving on January 1, 2024
~ In September of 2023, Burton announced her departure from McQueen as the 13th Creative Director of the company from 2010 - September 2023.
~ Burton’s first show at Givenchy will be for the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection in March.
~ Burton’s hire means that she will now become one of only five women to hold a creative director title at an LVMH house. (alongside Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, Camille Miceli for Pucci, Silvia Fendi with Kim Jones for Fendi and Stella McCartney.)
~ Succeeding Burton at McQueen is Irish designer, Seán McGirr, who joinined McQueen in December of 2023. Prior to his currently position, McGirr was Head of Ready-to-Wear at JW Anderson and previously held roles at Dries Van Noten, Uniqlo, Burberry and Vogue Hommes Japan.
So, what does this mean for the fashion world?
1. Reinvention of Givenchy: Givenchy, known for its rich heritage and association with iconic designs, is poised for a potential reinvention under Burton’s direction. Her previous work at Alexander McQueen, where she blended traditional tailoring with a modern, edgy aesthetic, suggests she might bring a fresh perspective to Givenchy, potentially rejuvenating its brand image while honoring its legacy.
2. Influence of Burton's Aesthetic: Sarah Burton's design philosophy, which is known for its craftsmanship, intricate detailing, and sometimes dramatic flair, could introduce a new visual language to Givenchy. This shift might influence broader fashion trends, as designers often look to prominent houses like Givenchy for inspiration.
3. Impact on the Fashion Industry: Burton’s appointment reflects a broader trend of established fashion houses seeking fresh, innovative leadership to stay relevant in a rapidly changing industry. Her success could set a precedent for how major brands navigate evolving consumer tastes and industry dynamics.
4. Collaborations and Collections: Givenchy might see new collaborations or unique collections under Burton’s leadership, leveraging her reputation for pushing creative boundaries. This could generate buzz and attract both fashion enthusiasts and media attention, contributing to Givenchy’s market positioning and brand vitality.
5. Diversity and Inclusivity: If Burton continues her trend of promoting diversity and inclusivity as seen in her previous roles, it might signal a stronger focus on these values within Givenchy’s collections and marketing strategies. This shift would resonate with a contemporary audience increasingly valuing brands that reflect these principles.
Overall, Sarah Burton’s new role at Givenchy could bring a dynamic change to the fashion world, influencing design trends, brand strategies, and the industry’s approach to creativity and leadership.
Quotes form Sarah Burton on the subject:
“It is a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel”  “I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs.”
