#JUSTICE FOR WYLL

Disappointed in the developments regarding Wyll in this recent patch. He deserves just as much love as the rest of the companions, and his story deserves to be told. For those who are stuck in situations because it was their only choice for survival, for those who try desperately to do the right thing even if itā€™s detrimental to themself purely because itā€™s the right thing to do. For those who want that storybook romance, that slow burn love, for those on the asexual spectrum or the aromantic spectrum or even those who donā€™t want something as sexual as what you get with the other companions. Just because he is not as ā€œpopularā€ or didnā€™t have as explosive a fan base as companions like Astarion does not mean he doesnā€™t deserve the same work put into him and his story.
We know why he actually isnā€™t getting the same treatment. Do better Larian.

I think whoever wrote the responses to Wyll actually fucking hated him with a burning passion because he'll say "I will be severely punished come nightfall" and all of the responses are "GOOD you deserve it and also I hope your dad hates you and also? I hope you never get laid ever again and you're in a permanent state of worry" after he's been nothing but nice to you.
Every conversation is like
"My father and I... we really didn't have a good relationship. When I was young, I tried so hard to live up to the expectations he set for me. But in the end, it wasn't enough. ...I wasn't enough. He abandoned me when I took on a devilish patron to save the city he so cherished."
1) GOOD.
2) Lol. Skill issue.
3) Kill yourself.
"I've caused every illness in the world I think actually, when I only saved 79 out of the 80 children in need."
1) Yeah. You definitely did.
2) That child suffered because of you. What was one more child saved? Come on. You could've saved ONE more child.
3) You monster. How could you abandon that child?
"I think I deserve everything coming to me.... I try to do everything right but it's never enough. Even my father didn't think I was a child worth loving. But I suppose that's what happens, when you live a life like mine. If my pain is what is needed to relieve others, I will serve without complaint, I swear on my heart and soul."
NO FUCKING RESPONSES AVAILABLE. Why can't I comfort him when he talks to me? Anytime he says something sad, you can either make fun of him, brush him off, or wish eternal suffering on his bloodline. Or when he's like "I deserve all this pain" you just have to say "Onto other matters." or LEAVE. And he so sweetly goes "Understood. These matters are a bit... difficult to hear about. I'm so sorry I burdened you with my history." AHHHHHH
Or when he says something like
"When I was young, the frontiers called and forced me into a line of duty. I'd have it no other way, I live to serve the people and protect the weak." and the responses are
1) Lol nerd.
2) [Durge] I bet I can kill them faster than you can save them
3) I bet the children cry when they see your horrible face.
4) You are so fucking cringe. Did you know that? You talk like a damn book. Get a fucking life.

Wyll's "decision"
I always get so disappointed when I get to this part in my playthroughs. Why is Wyll making a decision based on what Tav has to say when, with other companions, we can either agree with their decision or persuade them otherwise?
In my opinion, this can be fixed pretty easily:
Mizora offers the deal;
Wyll agrees. Based on his unshakable good alignment, it is pretty much a given. He loves his father, no matter the past. If he sold his soul to save the innocents, you bet he won't just abandon his father like that;
Then, Tav can have their dialogue turn, where there are two options: they agree with Wyll's decision or persuade him that the party can find Duke Ravengard on their own, given how much they've already accomplished together. The persuasion check is passed if the relationship meter with Wyll is high.
Yes, sure, there can be better solutions, but in no way can you convince me that Wyll was just like: "Oh, what now, Tav? You're telling me I should just abandon my father? Ok then." (ā‡€ā€øā†¼ā€¶)

BG3 is a R O L E P L A Y I N G GAME...
Okay, time to be a bit controversial but I need to get this off my chest. Mainly because I've been seeing it everywhere. Instagram. Here. Youtube. Even the cursed site that is Reddit. I doubt this will reach many people, but I'll feel better having gotten it out of my head.
I think that a lot of people who play/played BG3 have forgotten that it is of ROLEPLAYING game. Let me repeat that. ROLEPLAYING. That means, that your game is based off of YOUR choices and YOUR choices alone. Meaning that the things you choose to do in this game are based on YOUR interpretation of the media. There is NO canonical interpretation of the game because it is YOUR campaign based on how YOU play. The plotline, the romances, and everything that happens is based on YOUR choices and how YOU decide to ROLEPLAY it.
Why am I putting so much emphasis on this? Well, because with the new patch, some additions were made to Durge's storyline. Mainly regarding Gortash. Nothing major at all, honestly. But, as we know, durgtash is quite a popular ship in the fandom. There was an added line during Gortash's coronation when Gortash expressed that he "liked" the Dark Urge in comparison to his sibling. A line has been added where the Durge can reply "I think I liked you too." That's it. That's what all the fuss is about. Because oh boy, did some people interpret that as Larian forcing durgetash on the players. First...what? How--
Let me preface this by saying I'm NOT a durgetash shipper AT ALL. I don't even like Gortash. Believe me, I've tried to see what people see in it (and him). I went and found all the journals and letters trying to see the romantic connection, and I just couldn't. It seems more like admiration and respect than love for me, but hey...guess what...that's MY interpretation. That's not what those who love this ship feel and that's perfectly okay because it's THEIR Campaign.
My point is, in no way is Larian FORCING a romantic relationship between Gortash and the Durge UNLESS you interpret it that way. Gortash says he "liked" you. Okay, That can mean many things. He respected you as his partner in this whole scheme. He enjoyed your company in comparison to Orin. Or, he saw you as a true friend. Or if you want--and only if you want it--he liked you romantically. And this is vice versa for the new line that was added to further differentiate the Durge from a Tav. It is such a vague line and can be interpreted in so many ways, that I truly don't understand what all the fuss is about. If you don't see Gortash as a previous romantic partner...then don't.
The Dark Urge is in many ways a blank slate. Yes, they have a bloody past when it comes to murder, but you don't have to add personal relationships to it if you don't want to. Hell, in my latest playthrough, my durge was a virgin when this whole mess began lol (They, of course, didn't know that, but it's what I roleplayed). They also never fully recover their memory outside of what's shown in the game. They're a complete blank slate at the start and the end. The durge has no personal background so you can make your own. So you can ROLEPLAY.
If you don't like the idea of Durge and Gortash being a thing...don't roleplay it that way. And, if you interpret that line as romantic DON'T click it. But there is no reason to be going around saying something is being forced on you when it isn't.
(If you want to be mad about something, be mad about Wyll constantly being sidelined compared to every other companion, but that's another post in itself.)
Anyway, if you read this thanks and have fun with whatever headcanon you carry.

There is this guy called Jonathan Young, an extremely talented musician who has among other things made a series of songs about BG3 companions. He made them last year with about a month between each song featuring one of the main six companions.
EXCEPT ONE OF THEM. And you already know which one it is. Because itā€™s always that one.
Well, Jonathan finally remedied that and finally released the final song (which is straight fire). But you can instantly see what my beef is here.
Tumblr media
Of fucking course. At this point I am not even mad, I just think itā€™s hilarious that he has done something so on brand for the treatment of Wyll by Larian. Poor Wyll canā€™t catch a break.
Also hereā€™s a link to the song.

Honestly, if they were that desperate to rewrite Wyll after EA, they should have just modeled him after Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride.
Walk with me.
A charming, dutiful son of a blacksmith who, after witnessing the murder of his father, makes a pact with a devil to seek vengeance, rapier in hand.
In between his hunt for clues and chores for Mizora, he gains the title, ā€œThe Blade of Frontiers,ā€ as he defeats monsters and protects those in need, becoming the hero he didnā€™t have when he was younger. The business of vengeance doesnā€™t pay well, after all.
Sure, he hates Mizora, but he made his choice and he has but one goal: To kill the one who killed his father. Heā€™s heartbreakingly young, he can only see the finish line and nothing beyond it, his life is a candle slowly melting away into nothing.
Of course, having a tadpole is a bit of a setback. He needs to fix that, obviously.
Then, heā€™s told to kill Karlach. That wasnā€™t what he agreed to, to become a murderer like the one heā€™s trying to kill. It hurts, having his body twisted, his motherā€™s eye taken, the face that looks like his father morphed into something different. Heā€™s distracted from his goal, Mizora tells him, a promise broken, a price paid.
How his fatherā€™s soul must be writhing at his failure.
But, life isnā€™t so cut and dry anymore. He has friends, loved ones, new perspectives on life. The world could end, butā€”butā€”if it didnā€™tā€¦
He wants to live.
In the end, he finds his mark and has his vengeance. But now, he has to decide: fulfill his pact with Mizora and descend into Hell to be her warlock forever, orā€¦break free.
Larian, Larian, it was all right there. You could have kept the gritty part of his original character and combine it with the honor and sweetness we see in Inigo Montoya.

Does anybody know if you have unique dialogue with Wyll if you're a tiefling? Because I never noticed or stumbled upon it throughout the playthroughs i did and im not sure if i just missed it or there is no content on it at all. And I am still pissed that he takes you complimenting his horns in the tiefling party as mockery.
Like wat?? I wanted to tell Wyll that I have horns. Stop insulting and connecting horns as a monster trait, you are talking to a tiefling.

We also need to talk about Wyll not getting any content from the devs when a certain someone gets too many. Yes Iā€™m annoyed and salty. It is what it is and itā€™s true.

Why I will always defend Wyll Ravenguard
Tumblr media
After a two year campaign, we finally faced Tiamat. The Dragon Queen, herself.
Tumblr media
Our Dungeon Master gave us the run down. We were all level 17, fully armed. Locked and loaded.
Tumblr media
The fight was BRUTAL! It was looking like a TPK! (total party kill)
Tumblr media
We had one character left. My elf ranger, Sihnon. The Harper. Would Sihnon return to Waterdeep, or die with the rest of her companions?
So, I picked up my lucky D20...
Tumblr media
We all screamed!
If the seven of us, battle-harden warriors had trouble taking on Tiamat, what choice did Wyll have at age 17? Also UlderĀ was wrong to cast out his son and Mizora took advantage of an underage kid. šŸ˜‚

YES it is so sad that so many people find Wyll boring bc he really is so interesting and a deep rooted character if you think about it... but sadly, I think even Larian didn't care much about him... I mean how cool could've it been if we got Wyll to befriend an undead dragon or something like that!? Imagine a playthrough in which Wyll becomes the new Baldur
I mean in the end the PLAYER gets to completely decide whether Wyll sells himself to Mizora or sacrifices his father! Wyll has no choice or say in his own storyline!!!!!
Tumblr media
This could have been Wyll and Ansur but Larian's playing.

Boy, what you gonna do with your life?
I associate this song to Wyll's situation a lot, things must have been so hard for him, with his sacrifices and unmet expectations. I wanted to hug him all the time.

Reblog and copy this to their feedback start a movement.
list of wyll feedback/bugs
epilogue:
no hugs and kisses in the epilogue
wyll doesn't have specific lines for other companions being romanced in multiplayer (ie, when shadowheart is romanced by lae'zel origin, she has specific lines for that. wyll doesn't, except for a romanced illithid tav/origin.)
in blade of frontiers wyll ending, romanced tav/durge can go with wyll to avernus and hunt down mizora, but in the epilogue, wyll makes no mention of their adventures in avernus (my character is dressed in avernus armour but wyll isn't)
ulder and mizora don't have letters addressing wyll
in ulder's letter to the player, he makes no mention of a potential engagement/marriage with wyll
romance:
only one romance greeting, and only triggered in act 3. often bugged
no kiss greetings before/after
ulder and mizora have no reaction to a potential engagement/break up with wyll
there's no introduction to ulder and mizora as wyll's lover/partner
wyll's kisses and dialogue in the morphic pool area aren't repeatable
bugged act 3 romance scene for tall/dragonborn models
act 3 romance scene triggers upon talking to him in camp and doesn't start after long resting - unlike other companions and literally every other romance scene. the scene ends in camp again which is really awkward
general:
wyll's major choice re: his pact and his father in act 3 is something the player makes for him - unlike other companions whose choice hinges on a skill check or previous actions in the game
origin wyll's nightmare on the first long rest is only narrated, whereas a different origin has a fully animated nightmare sequence
wyll/lae'zel flirt banter was removed without adding a potential replacement for it - hence taking out more content for the companion who already has it the least
a lot of wyll's dialogue in early access still fit current wyll's character so there's no reason to not include those, or rework them at the very least to make up for the large disparity in content (this one's my personal opinion only, though i have no doubt some of you feel the same way)
here are just some of the feedbacks/bugs that wyll has if you wanna send feedback to larian. feel free to rb and/or add your own to the list
