i feel like the main driving force behind mane's desire to reban players is wemmbu. like. mane cared for him so SO much, and i'd honestly say he Still cares abt him (even while wanting to ban him) and i gen dont think he would have ever cared who is unbanned or why if wemmbu didnt ban himself on a whim bc losing wemmbu very obviously hurt him. and to lose someone he valued so much without any real warning or satisfying explanation, only for him to just Come Back...its like. yeah okay i can see where the frustration comes from LMFAO

I'm seeing a lot of confused information abt the tiktok ban and I wanted to talk about it.

Essentially the ban targeted the Apple app store and the Google app store (and other ways of downloading apps) and was meant to prevent them from hosting the app. The app would still be usable on people's phones, it just wouldn't be able to be updated or downloaded again if deleted. This would slowly kill the app as bugs would not be able to be fixed and security issues might arise.

However, on the day the law went into effect (Saturday night) TikTok displayed a notification that read something along the lines of "TikTok is banned in your country, but we are working with Trump to restore the app". People trying to watch videos could not do this. This was not what the law required, TikTok itself decided to block US users.

Then, the next day (Sunday) the app was usable again with a message thanking Trump for restoring the app. But none of this was even necessary because that's not what the ban was targeting. It is my opinion that this was a move by TikTok's corporate to encourage user approval of Trump and also curry favor with him.

TLDR; The TikTok ban everyone is talking about was a ~12 hour ban from TikTok's corporate and not exactly the "real" legal ban.

something about the tiktok ban that i haven't really seen people here talking about is the experience of tiktok users not from the usa, which was, as far as i can tell, on the whole, very positive. it was actually really nice to, for a short period of time, be on a major social media network and able to interact with people across the world without usamericans constantly inserting themselves into every conversation.

usamericans kind of take over people's fyp regardless of where you're from. this is partly to do with the fact that the creators fund is only available to usamericans so most of the shitty content farms are from the us. then there's also the cultural aspect of the fact that being a citizen of the most powerful empire in the world is a significant privilege, and also a privilege that 99% of usamericans are seemingly unable to acknowledge, plus the us centrism and exceptionalism, plus the constant need to cast themselves as the underdog, and, well. it's annoying.

so, like. everything of what i've seen (which is not to say that other opinions don't exist, just that i haven't seen them) is that it was really nice when the usamericans were gone, and it kind of sucks that they're back.

ofc the tears-hair-out issue with banning the destruction of religious symbols and items as hate speech (ie burning the quran) in scandinavia is that until very very recently this was not primarily a tool for the white conservative majority to oppress a religious minority. but most commonly used by political refugees to protest the religious regimes they fled from. it was co-opted, very consciously, by white supremacists. this is not a secret, no one is hiding this. and that is also why, when ie turkey points to "they burn the quran over there" as a reason sweden shouldnt be allowed in nato, one might think it's maybe not *just* about the likes of paludan, especially when the other half of that claim is "and also they hide kurds."
