Granita al Caffè or coffee granita is a typical Sicilian frozen treat usually served for breakfast or as a way to cool down during the summer heat. It's really easy to make at home with just 3 simple ingredients. Serve it the Sicilian way topped with whipped cream and a brioche bun.

Desserts from South Tyrol - Italy
Tumblr media
South Tyrol is an area located in Northern Italy near the border with Austria. It was formerly part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and it became Italian only after WWI. For this reason, still today, in that area the majority of inhabitants speaks a German dialect and the customs and traditions belong more to the Germanophone area.
The cuisine is an interesting mix, some sort of fusion of the local, Venetian and Austrian-Hungarian cuisines.
Today I'll make a list of desserts to be tried while in South Tyrol:
Strudel= oblong pastry usually filled with grated cooking apples, cinnamon and bread crumbs. Often served with vanilla ice-cream/vanilla sauce/whipped cream;
Süsse Knödeln = made by wrapping around entire plums or apricots a potato dough, which is boiled and then rolled in caramelized bread crumbs;
Buchweizentorte = [ see pic ] cake made with buckwheat flour and hazelnuts and filled with a cranberry marmalade;
Kaiserschmarren = it literally means "the Emperor's mess". It's a shredded fluffy pancake served with cranberry marmalade or apple mousse;
Heisse Liebe = it literally means "hot love". It's a soft dessert made of hot raspberries sauce, vanilla ice-cream and whipped cream on top.
For a complete menù, with first- and main courses, check my article on Wordpress.
