Propaganda why Ted Mosby is insufferable:
He’s so selfish, immature, and annoying. Death!
Ted repeatedly chases women who are unattainable. (Stella, etc) and that he is fundamentally incompatible with. (Robin). Especially after Robin finds out she's infertile, it's a big asshole move of him to chase after her knowing that he'll eventully leave for a women that wants to marry and have kids. Ted is pretentions and lacks the moral backbone to go against Barney's bullshit. Ted often chases after women half his age with Barney.
certified Nice Guy syndrome where he's a huge misogynist but acts like he's just a widdle baby....UGH
He tells his kids some really inappropriate things and comes off as annoying even though he is the one narrating the show. Also, he’s only telling the story so his kids will approve of him going after their Aunt Robin
Propaganda why Ross Geller is insufferable:
He blames everyone else for everything despite it often being his fault, so he never improves. Not even a little.
He’s Mental Geller
Many many reasons. I haven’t even watched that much of friends and I have a burning hatred of Ross. There is general stuff such as homophobia and misogyny (at one stage he stops his son playing with a Barbie because it’s a “girls toy”) but also other stuff such as anger issues, narcissism and other toxic behaviour. Why he is consider a quirky funny member of the group and not a dangerous guy who needs to be excommunicated is beyond me. I hate ross

1012 The One With Phoebe's Wedding
Not mine. I love this moment. He's not complaining. He's just being organised and trying not to sound eager but we saw how excited he was to have a time slot just for him. That's probably such an important thing for Chandler, having parents who neglected him, and knowing Monica "out at all hours just to win a football game" Geller, the woman who will forget to eat when she's in the heat of battle, has carved out time for him. And this is after the kerfuffle of his planned weekend aways (Emma's birthday which was no one's fault, and then when Ross went with Chandler instead) and Tulsa, when Monica didn't have time for him because she prioritised her job and their paychecks so they could start their family sooner, and they probably talked about how they could fix that so it didn't happen again. Now she's scheduling time so that she never forgets.

Ross Geller and What Would've Made Him A Better Character
This post is more a note to myself in order to understand my own thoughts and I am in no way stating I’m correct or have the ‘right’ views.
I love Ross in friends don’t get me wrong I thought he was funny and I enjoyed him a lot whenever he was on screen. This is also not in any ways hate on David schwimmer his portrayal of the character was phenomenal however I do have some grievances with the writing of Ross’s character as a whole.
Ross whilst a great character has always felt a bit lackluster to me, a little less authentic than the rest of the friends. It took a while but I realised the reason I didn’t enjoy him as much as the other characters and truly empathise with him was down to three main factors:
Love
Backstory
Jealousy (MARK)
Love: I really do like ross and rachel as much hate as ross and their relationship gets I feel them as endgame was the correct choice, I just don’t like how the writers went about portraying their story on a whole. I also don’t like the way ANY of Ross’s other relationships were portrayed either. I found that most of the time we saw Ross or had a Ross centered episode/moment that wasn’t funny it almost always had to do with his current romantic relationships and it bugged me.
I felt that it was almost lazy writing and we never really got many substantial moments with Ross’s character and didn’t get much growth with him on a whole. I also found most of his relationships aside from romantic love needed a lot more nuance which I will now list some of (ROMANTIC INCLUDED):
Carol - I wish she had more screen time personally even if a new actor was necessary as I think she should’ve played a lot more vital of a role in Ross’s story. In season 1 I wish that instead of shying away from her character and constantly making lesbian jokes we got to see more of her as an honest and kind hearted woman who truly didn’t want to hurt ross but couldn’t hide how she felt anymore. I wish we could’ve seen as Ross grew to understand and accept Carol as well as Susan.
Rachel - A lot of rachel and ross will be in the last section so bare with me. I for starters think the writers had their relationship flipped in the way they made it progress, I would’ve preferred a slowburn to start with instead of to end with. I think a lot of stuff that happened in their relationship to hurt it was Ross’s fault and it upsets me that the writers never capitalised on this and helped Ross grow and instead focused more on Rachel whilst Ross fond another partner a few episodes later.
Pheobe - I think he should’ve had a lot more solo time with phoebe in ways that didn’t involve her helping him with his romance. Pheobe challenges Ross in every single way right down to his beliefs and I feel she could’ve played a vital role in his growth.
Ben - Even if again a new actor was needed I feel Ben should’ve been a major part of Ross’s storyline, Ben was a character that could’ve helped Ross deepen his understanding of his own emotions by simply existing and learning to be a human. I feel if Ross and Ben had been focused on we could’ve got to see a completely new Ross as the innocent questions of his child about life could’ve had him reflect on his own and make changes to stop some of his worst habits.
Backstory: This one probably won’t make sense to other people but oh well. I think we should’ve spent more time on Ross’s backstory and his relationship with his mother. Whilst Monica definitley needed that focus I wish we had more nuance to Ross’s relationship with his parents, I feel a lot was left unanswered their. Is Ross guilty about Monica? Does Ross feel overwhelmed by his mother? Does Ross struggle with being the centre of attention? Does he feel pressure to be perfect? Is he constantly keeping an act with them to be their golden child?
So many questions that I don’t know the answer to. Ross’s backstory just feels shallow in comparison to the others, the writers made Ross out to be spoiled and gave off the impression he liked that Monica was in his shadow. It all just felt way too boney there was no fleshing out of the backstory whatsoever.
Jealousy: This is by far the biggest gripe I have with Ross’s character is his unwavering Jealousy, the first time it was present in a very bad way was with Mark in my opinion, the way he acted was completely unreasonable and I hate that the writers made it so his actions were founded cuz ‘ah see he does like her’ it completely ruined the experience for me. Ross being a jealous character is okay, characters need flaws especially at the start of shows. My issue is that this flaw of his in particular was never expanded on, he simply just was jealous It was this that ruined the ending of the show for me when Ross and Rachel got together because he was still a jealous person that hadn’t changed and it annoyed me, a lot of Ross and Rachel’s problems stemmed from jealousy especially on Ross’s side and I feel we should’ve been given growth with that.
It could’ve happened progressively with the ten billion relationships he had in the show. It could’ve happened with monica in order to flesh out their sibling bond even more, hell it could’ve even happened with his son or daughter and how parenthood effected his ways and made him feel the need to grow up a bit.
It annoys me because I feel the character would’ve been ten times better if we got to see him work through his Jealousy as the show went on, their would’ve been set backs and it would’ve been gradual but I would’ve loved it.
Overall I think Ross is an unfinished character who would’ve been so much more reccepted by the audience with changes made in these categories.

I bash Nikki/Nate as a couple a lot but I do think there was potential and promise with them. Plus I love a good smart girl/jock pairing.
In That 90s Pilot, they were the ‘comedic’ ones that’d make me laugh out loud but there wasn’t really anything too bad with them.
In Free Leia, Nate asking Red for the shirt and saying that he just wants to keep Nikki happy was so sweet. They were such a cute couple that episode. With Nikki helping Nate when he was choking.
But then fast forward to the The Rave and Nikki’s bossing Nate around like Jackie did with Kelso and just like Kelso, Nate’s just…taking it. Also the whole fawning over half naked girls thing at the rave, then again he’s like 16 so it’s whatever but just a note.
And then in Step By Step, Nikki wants to do something that’s important to her and Nate ditches her to get a used hot tub. This is minor, but it’s giving me Winter vibes where Jackie wants Hyde to come to the Christmas party and he’s like ‘nope blah blah that’s your fault blah blah you’re overreacting’. I did like the end where he’s like ‘you’re a goat’s mommy now.’ But this episode also proves that Gwen/Nikki is the superior ship.
Next is The Birthday Girl, the episode they officially plummet to their downfall. Nate can’t even remember something basic as spelling Nikki’s name, which may not seem like a big deal. If she was a friend or they were newer to dating. But niknate have been together for 6 months and he doesn’t know??? Also one of his first rebuttals being ‘ask me about your boobs, I’ll draw those on a napkin.’ And later in the episode, Nate can remember the song that played when she let him touch her butt. It’s like sex is all he thinks of her. And Nikki being so touched in that scene like ‘oh he remembered this’ just makes me sad.
Then there’s Boyfriend Day 1. For the first time in a while, I was actually able to see them as a real couple instead of a joke one so that was nice. And the end scene makes me go 😭. But like, this also proves why they don’t work. Nate can’t handle Nikki’s ambition and barges into her tutoring session. I know Ozzie wasn’t the most helpful, but even before that, Nate was super jealous. Because ‘oh my god Nikki’s spending time with another guy’. It’s like how Ross Geller was about Rachel/Mark except less douchey.
Next is Summer Storm and they actually had a lot of cute moments here, with the umbrella scene, them giggling, and I liked hearing Nikki talking to Leia about the stuff in her relationship. But lmao at Leia saying that Nikki x Nate had an easy relationship. Like Leia ily, but you don’t know the half of it.
And in Dirty Double Booker, there’s an even bigger wedge driving between them. With Nate and Nikki being focused on their own things. So Nate goes to Leia and he’s happy. Now I actually like that scene and their hug. And the fact that he seemed to be realizing in the end that maybe things with Nikki might not be as strong as they thought. Like everyone at this point knows that I don’t ship Nate/Leia, but I feel like that scene was necessary. Even though Nate can be a dumbass at times, he is a smart guy. But he’s very insecure with Nikki. Whereas he was confident in that scene. I feel like that could’ve been a good arc where like ‘hey, maybe me and Nikki aren’t meant to be after all.’ without trying to have another ~romance~. But we’re talking about Nate/Nikki now, not Nate/Leia.
Then in Kids In America, it only gets worse. Nate not only continues to hide his feelings about the relationship, he tells Leia. And he literally calls Nikki “practical” (Nate tries to say it but didn’t know the word but if he knew, he def would’ve said it). Like I honestly had no sympathy for Nate in this scene. I get that he was was feeling insecure but he could’ve TALKED to Nikki about all of this. AND THEN ALMOST KISSING LEIA BEHIND HER BACK. Only THREE episodes before, Nate was all insecure and barging into Nikki’s tutoring session because he thinks she and Trevor had something. But he literally WOULD’VE KISSED Leia had Gwen not have walked in. Then him being all sad in the background when Jay and Leia are kissing while poor Nikki is completely oblivious and has no idea what’s going on. Like I get that Nate was having a hard time and this is all completely human BUT YOU DO NOT ALMOST KISS YOUR GIRLFRIEND’S FRIEND WHILE DATING SAID GIRLFRIEND. Like if he had been honest in the beginning scene, this would’ve been way less messy. Sure Nikki & Nate would’ve fought, but at least they could’ve broken up and there’d be no emotional nor physical cheating involved.

WOOHH my petty side really reared itself while reading this LMAOOO 🤣
Me at Dean;
“There’s half a ham sandwich in the mini fridge.” — Excuse you Dean but being bored doesn’t equal being hungry 🤣
No, there was a science experiment in the fridge. You didn’t trust meat cooked by a supernatural joy buzzer on steroids, let alone two-week-old meat cooked by a ‘roided up kid’s prank. — Very wise, because I wouldn’t trust that either bleh!
“Here,” he said, and tossed you a folded newspaper underneath the one he was reading. “Look through that. See if there’s anything that sounds like our kind of gig.” — Dean’ solution to free time = hunting… NOT ON MY WATCH!
Dean rolled his eyes and chose to ignore you, even as you began to drum your nails again, this time on the book sitting on your lap. — this is very on brand for me as a person lmao
“But that would require effort,” you whined, and rolled onto your side, teasing him with the curve of your ass in the spandex shorts you often wore to bed. — HELP WHY IS THIS ME! I feel very called out omfg 😩
“Guess who’s not givin’ any fucks today?” — Let’s see if you keep that same attitude when I fuck your tall younger brother 🫨
“Get your ass off the couch before I kick you off,” he said gruffly, turning back to his newspaper. — imma bout to kick this dudes ass!
“Been called worse.” — You ever been called dick nugget McGee?
“Not as exercise, Dean. Just walk with me, talk with me,” you implored. — Yeah Dean, yknow, get out of that stuffy room and indulge in something ordinary for once with your girlfriend damn.
“Goddamn it. Can’t you see I’m working on something here? Does it have to be right fuckin’ now?” he snapped. He slipped his arm out of your grip, clearly not in the mood for your antics. — THATS IT LETS GO AND FUCK SAM, THEN WE’LL SEE HOW HE LIKES THAT! Maybe that’ll offer him some motivation 😒
“Where d’you think you’re going?” he drawled. — Not him acting like he wasn’t being an ass just a millisecond ago 🤚 The way that my petty and very temperamental ass woulda started a fight and probably gone to get kidnapped on purpose or somethin out of pure spite 🤣
“I said to get your ass off the couch,” he recalled. — it’s giving Ross Geller vibes.
“Okay, let’s go then.” He shoved the newspapers to the side and went for his leather jacket draped on a nearby chair. — Man he’s sooo lucky I’m not able to jump into the story and spitefully fuck his brother just for switching up like a mf 💀
Instead of arguing further, you decided you would ignore him if he was going to be a dick about it. — You’re doing great sweetie! 🫶
“Don’t be so pissy,” Dean said. He slid his hands in his pockets and despite his longer stride, he set a sedate pace. — says the asshole who was just getting temperamental about his girlfriend wanting to spend time with him 💀🤚
Your lips were in an angry (but kind of adorable) pout, and he had the urge to bite that lower lip like you had earlier at the motel room, when he’d nearly let you pin him on the couch. — You do that slugger, but whatever violent actions follow isn’t my fault 🤷♀️
He could appreciate that you wanted to spend some time alone, where you weren’t talking about, or doing anything hunting related. He was just, admittedly, a little slow on the uptake. — How am I able to sympathise with Soldier Boy more then Dean 🤣 like seriously, SB is a terrible person and yet I concede more for him then for Dean in this moment LMAOOO!! I guess bc there’s nowhere to go but up from being a kidnap victim 🤣🤣
I adore your writing as per usual, and I’m keen to read more of your Dean stuff 🫶
Talk Bacon to Me | Dean x Reader
Summary: A rare lazy morning where you feel like pestering Dean a little. He objects to being pestered, but ultimately, you both just want to spend some time together.
Pairing: Dean x Female Reader Word Count: 2800 Warnings: None
After roughly an hour of rare quiet in which Dean continued to flip through newspapers, you looked up from the book you were reading.
You stretched out on the dingy couch you were both occupying; for once it was made out of frayed leather and not the usual moth-eaten fabric that usually passed as furniture at the motels you stayed at.
You stared at Dean’s concentrated profile from where he sat at the far end of the couch.
It was a good view.
Three-weeks’ worth of stubble on such a defined jawline was worth the extra few seconds of ogling, but even you could only stare at your boyfriend for so long before his handsome profile became blurry.
Evidently, you were bored.
You sighed, the not-on-purpose (on purpose) kind.
It didn’t even get his eyes off the page. Knowing Dean, if it wasn’t from his “secret” stash of porn (stored under the cache of weapons in Baby’s trunk; real clever by the way), whatever he was reading couldn’t be that interesting, could it?

that post that’s like “it should be called friends and Ross” is so real I just watched the one with the sharks where Ross talks to phoebe about how she’s never had a long term relationship right before she goes on date, which makes her upset and ruins the date. Then he goes to the guys apartment to tell him to give phoebe another chance (which he tells Ross he’s already done) and Ross responds by revealing that phoebe’s never been in a long term relationship???
And in the next one phoebe invites everyone to her bday dinner and Rachel’s like only one of us can go bc we have to watch our baby and phoebe wants Rachel to go but Ross is like I wanna go to so he makes Rachel let him have his mom watch her even though she’s uncomfortable because she’s never left her baby with someone else, then he locks them both out of the apartment with the baby inside bc he wouldn’t listen to Rachel telling him she didn’t have her keys like I just wanna say from the bottom of my heart fuck Ross
#friends#anti ross geller#I haven't watched friends in so long I never realized that literally everything is Ross fault

Things Edward Cullen did that makes me hate him and has convinced me that if Bella had even slightly rejected him, he would have stalked then murdered her and probs Charlie. (Yes as I find more info I’m gonna add to this list lol)
He oiled Bella’s windows so she wouldn’t know he was breaking into her room to watch her sleep.
He hid everything related to him in her floorboards over a month between Twilight and New Moon before abandoning her and left her to go through the traditional vampire withdrawal (Myers wtf).
He removed parts of her car so she couldn’t go places he didn’t want her to go.
He started dating her even though he didn’t have romantic feelings he was just fascinated because he couldn’t hear her thoughts.
Is angry Bella built a relationship with Jacob during New Moon even though he left her and made it clear that he didn’t intend to come back.
Decided he was going to leave her on the plane ride home in Twilight but decided to stick around long enough to hide all of the things that would remind her of him slowly over time (for some reason?) and knowingly make it more difficult and painful for her to get over him.
Rosalie has valid concerns about Bella being involved with their family and Edward kind of just convinces Bella into thinking it’s just because Rosalie is just being petty because she’s jealous.
Manages to convince Bella that it’s ok that he spied on her, found her house key and lets himself in to watch her and Charlie.
Managed to convince Bella that it was ok for him to break into her house through her window and watch her sleep regularly.
He threw Bella into a freaking WALL
Deciding that he gets to choose whether or not Bella gets to have rigastromi because she isn’t agreeing to do what he wants and trying to solicit her friend who he knows is in love with her to give her a compromise.
Knew that Jacob was in love with Bella and still asked him to offer himself up to give her kids without consulting Bella and was upset with her when she said no and was angry with them both for offering.
Their whole relationship from meeting to the end of the books was (I think) seven months, not including the time that Edward left in New Moon.
Gets very passive aggressively upset when she spends time with other guys when 1, he was only originally interested in her because he couldn’t hear her thoughts and 2, he was planning to leave her for most of the first book/movie and was gone for almost all of New Moon. (Ross Geller called and wants his lack of self confidence back)
Bella said she didn’t want Edward’s money and got herself a job but he still refused to listen and forced her to take his money by just putting it in her back meaning that she is financially tied to him.
He makes fun of Bella a lot for being clumsy. To the point where it’s meanness hidden as affection and it just reads as him trying to take away her confidence.
Repeatedly blames Bella for his lack of self control. The minute he loses it, it’s her fault when he knows his own limits and shouldn’t expect her to know. She isn’t a vampire and has no frame of reference and wouldn’t be able to tell what is to much for him unless he tells her.
He clearly thinks of Bella as a possession not a partner. He belittles her, makes fun of her, emotionally tormented her (Like hiding his stuff under her floorboards and dating her when you’re just there to see why he can’t hear her thoughts). It’s not until she becomes a vampire that he starts to be somewhat more respectful.

Emotional abuse is NOT to be normalized.
Hello everyone! Anon from the “
I’m a victim of emotional abuse
” post. And today I’m going to explain my story of the emotional abuse I went through.
My story begins as a lot do, online. I was about 10 years old so I didn’t know what were red flags, and what relationships I should avoid. I had a very toxic friend group back then that enjoyed self deprecation and honestly bullying each other, me included. We used to do the cringe roleplays children do and making cringe oc’s. I met someone we’ll call Rin.
Rin didn’t bully me like the others in the friend group and very often came to me for opinions, and over all talking without making me feel like utter garbage. I ate up all the praise, all the love and support Rin gave me. However, even as early as friendship, they would get angry at me if I did stuff they didn’t like and would sometimes ignore me, sometimes verbally assault me into apologizing for things I really shouldn’t have.
»»————-————-««
For context, Back then I was both unmedicated for anxiety and I was going through a harsh time with my aunt and cousins living with us. When I was 6, my drug addict uncle committed suicide and I’d been living with them for about 4 years by that time. (No, my parents nor aunt told us he committed suicide. at the time, don’t worry) They made my life HELL, constantly getting me in trouble and generally putting me down.
Context: Rin was 16 when i was 10.
»»————-————-««
One day I was doing our daily playing games with the friend group and Rin when one of our friends, Rose, Told us we’d make a *great* couple. By that time I had some feelings for Rin, we’d voice call occasionally, to me they weren’t a stranger. Rin had agreed and in hind sight I was kind of pressured into the relationship.
All of the behavior I mentioned before, where they would get pissy whenever I did something they didn’t like or get nice when I did something they *did* like got WORSE. It’s nothing like what media presents, because when people wish to manipulate you they will without hesitation.
Rin began threatening bodily harm, showing me cuts if I did something vaguely wrong. They would tell me I was worthless without them. That if I’d “Only just listen to me I could make you the best girl ever!"
They found it funny when I’d get squeamish over topics, continuing the conversations and saying that if I’d just tell them that I’d like it then they’d stop.
One day when I was 11, it just got too much for me so I said we needed to break up. You wanna know what Rin did?
They threatened suicide. They told me if I left them they’d kill themselves. That I was all they were living for. That I was the love of their life and if I left them it’d be my fault if they killed themselves.
I was 11, I didn’t know any better about the situation but I knew I didn’t want them to die so I stayed. I stayed in the relationship. I tried 3 more times to break up with the same result. the same threat of Suicide. Sometimes with photos.
After that original threat they began getting s*xual. They began mentioning we should meet up IRL, despite us being several states apart. They began describing what they’d do to my body s*xually when we met IRL. They told me that if I didn’t want to fulfill their fantasy’s I was a bad SO. That I should only exist to fulfill their wants and *their* needs. It didn’t matter what I wanted.
when I was 12, I finally had an out. They had been stabbed and sent to the hospital. They weren’t online so I took the chance and broke up with them when they couldn’t do anything about it. They tried when they got back but I was long gone.
Now normally Media presents this as when a trauma victim starts healing and returns to perfect normalcy. That isn’t the case. Its been at least 4 years since I left them, since I got out of that situation, but I still have the fears. Have the insecurities. I still hear their voice telling me I’m worthless, That I’d be better off a trophy on their wall. That since I’m not their perfect ideal woman I should just shut up and be the best wife to the next man that decides I’m worth their time.
my anxiety’s voice, once a always changing one *became* their voice. I’ve healed, I’ve moved on from the abuse but their voice haunts me. Their Abuse has left mental scars that will NEVER heal.
This is why having Mental Abuse of any form be normalized is horrible. because it means more people like me will go through situations like these. and not be allowed to escape because we’re "over reacting”. Because we’re “just in hysterics. it’s perfectly normal!"
this is a serious issue that shouldn’t be brushed under the rug. Miraculous Ladybug is the WORST offender of normalizing Mental Abuse I have ever seen. because I KNOW the red flags. I have trained myself to see them. To protect myself.
Normalizing normal little issues is fine. But mental abuse? never. NEVER should ANY form of abuse be normalized because it means more victims will appear. This shouldn’t even be a thing but here I am. Having to fight for people to realize this isn’t a thing that should be just accepted.
TL;DR: My first ex threatened to cause bodily harm when i was 10, and when i was 11 threatened suicide for me daring to try and break up with them. I escaped when i was 12, only barely. Now my anxiety has taken their voice and haunts me to this day.
If you’ve read this long, thank you! and have some
kittens
for what I just made you read. Thank you for your time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all, I want to thank you for your bravery in coming forward to share your experience. I am so sorry you had to go through this. Nobody deserves to be treated this way.
Second, you still raise a valid point.
Media in general tends to downplay emotional abuse and parental neglect, a good example being Monica Geller’s relationship with her parents from Friends. Almost every episode featuring Monica’s mom showed her being insensitive to her daughter and constantly belittled her while undermining her achievements like prioritizing Ross’ new girlfriend over Monica’s weight loss in a flashback. Even if it was unintentional on her part, it still damaged Monica’s psyche, and this kind of treatment was always played for laughs.
The fact that even shows today tend to downplay mental trauma shows that people don’t really understand the kind of damage it can cause.
The way Chloe’s relationship with her mother is portrayed is a good example. At least Friends is targeted towards an older audience so it could be enjoyed in a morbid way by laughing at Monica’s misery, but at its core, Miraculous Ladybug is aimed at children. Children will see Chloe bonding with her neglectful mother and see it as normal, as a good thing.
The fact that Astruc still doesn’t get how bad Chloe’s upbringing was shows he doesn’t get mental abuse either.
You need to better understand mental trauma before actually trying to write it. Otherwise, you end up depicting mental abuse in the wrong way and give viewers the wrong impression of it.

Round 3
I hate ross
Propaganda why Y/N is insufferable:
I WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT. they're always so bland and passive, idk how anyone could pretend to be them in the stories. and on the rare occasion someone does give them a bit of personality ITS JUST AN OC. GIVE THEM A NAME. I'd rather read about a thought out oc than a bland y/n.
They clog up the tumblr tags
They exist and that’s really upsetting
I would not fucking say that
You, the reader, get to join the tournament!
More propaganda for Y/N
Anti propaganda

I dislike TOT Could Have Been, because I dont buy the implication that Mondler were "fated" to be together & would have ended up as a couple in an another universe. Imo that's less romantic than what happens in the "real" universe. I think they needed the real universe specific history & set of events to end up falling in love. (Also I think the idea of "fate" & "meant to be" is more Ross & Rach than Mondler). Seeing as youre watching those episodes now, do you agree? (Feel free to say no!)
I'm going to say that I disagree.
I don't think TOT Could Have Been says Mondler are fated. Because I agree that the way some people define "soulmates and fate" is totally wrong and emphasises magic far too much. But soulmates as Shakespeare, Plath, Sparks, Fitzgerald, all the great romance writers, define fate as people whose interests and personalities compliment and couples who have the potential to work together and work hard to communicate and make their relationships work. I think that Mondler are exactly that. They're two people with amazing chemistry, who, despite everything when they met, they communicate and trust and love each other because they are willing to work hard and love each other for their quirks that no one else does.
The bones of what happens are the same in both universes. An dreally, as Marta Kaufman said, the idea wasn't that they were fated, but that "he loves her in every universe." Which just means that Chandler, in the real universe, loves Monica no matter what and this was their way of dispelling any idea that Chandler wouldn't be with her because of her weight. That was the entire purpose of the whole thing, the message that they love each other regardless of faults and flaws and quirks, that she can “balloon up or shrink down but she will always be Monica” and Chandler Bing will always love Monica Geller. Because of that friendship, trust, and communication. Which has no logical basis, given how rocky the start of their friendship was. Something pulls them together so that they become friends - that natural chemistry and potential to trust and enjoy each other’s company - that’s the fated part, because at their core characterisation, they haven’t changed, they cannot change, no matter the universe or situation, at their core they are the same and they have that potential to be more if they risk their friendship.
I like the idea that you've posed here, because Mondler happening is totally contingent on their friendship and trust and things going right at exactly the right moment. But I think a very similar sequence of events happen in both universes to emphasise that Mondler is always going to happen because they are so connected.
They're friends. They have this inextricable bond despite their differences. They trust each other. The first person they tell their good news to is each other. The one person they can count on for support in the hard times is each other.
That's true for both universes.
And while it's a different catalyst in this universe. It's not, really.
They're friends. They have been for a long time. They touch and trust and invade each other's space constantly. Chandler doesn't think he has anything to offer her but offers himself to her anyway. Monica is involved in a relationship that clearly doesn't mean anything to the doctor she's dating but she's too oblivious to see. That man brushes her off - there is no reference to her appearance or her age but it is still a third party brushing her off as not worth his time. She turns to Chandler, not expecting anything but friendship, when she's upset because she knows he'll make her feel better. He tries to make her laugh. Tries to be self-deprecating. They end up throwing themselves together. It wasn't meant to mean anything for Monica. It did for Chandler. It ends up meaning far more than they expected it to.
And then they put the work in to make it work.
#mondler#relationships mean nothing if you dont put the work in#they work hard at their relationship#chandler and monica#monica and chandler#a film about soulmates and the fact you still need to work together to make the relationship last#it really depends on your outlook on fate - fate as personalities that for whatever reason put aside their differences and communicate - wh#absolutely starcrossed in the most beautiful sense. Confessing UOs to you because you're always amusing about them but never judgmental: 1. Rachel Green is a worse person than Ross Geller and actually by far the worst person of all the Friends 2. I like The Office but kind of roll my eyes at all the gifsets making it seem like Dwight and Jim are actually brothers or close friends despite their rivalry, because aside from like seven or so scenes throughout all nine seasons, their dislike of each other was genuine and deep 3. It makes me laugh that Team Jess vs Team Logan battles are still waging because both guys are AWFUL and Rory is even worse 4. For the first season or two of TVD, I genuinely liked Elena a lot and (even more of a UO) liked her a lot more than I liked Caroline 5. Luke Danes was a good friend but lousy romantic partner in countless ways, and don't even get me started on him inexplicably going from "all in" to "out" over the events in Wedding Bell Blues that were very clearly Emily and Christopher's fault rather than Lorelai's and then lying by omission about the existence of his long lost daughter from his fiance until she happened to figure it out on her own. 6. Andie was my very favorite Dawson's Creek character---even slightly more than Pacey. Thank you for reading!!
lmao i feel like i've gotten this exact list before.
1. i honestly think pretty much everyone is the same on friends tbh, ross does shitty things, rachel does shitty things, joey does shitty things, chandler does shitty things. monica gets worse in the later seasons and phoebe is pretty much the least offensive even though everyone made it seem like ross was a horrible person for not playing along with her delusion that her mother was a cat and not a lost pet and i was like LOL this is fucking ridiculous. her being irritated that ross is trying to push his belief of evolution on her is valid but when she finally gets him to open his mind a little and then insults him for abandoning his beliefs had me like lol k. i'm not saying i wouldn't do that, i'm just saying that's pretty shitty.
2. i just stay away from fandom things relating to the office now because i see all of these things like, yeah no.
3. you seem like a blog regular and potentially a blog OG, i feel like you know how much i hate rory and logan and how much the romanticization of jess makes me roll my eyes. i only understand team jess vs team logan debates when it comes to who is the better boyfriend for rory i.e. not who is the better boyfriend period, not who is the better man period, but who makes the most trash sense for the trash character that is rory.
4. i never particularly liked elena but she is certainly less offensive as a character in the first three seasons even though she started off with major, major character holes. (season 1 caroline ftw though)
5. yes, i've heard this before, i can understand his reaction in wedding bell blues though. because let's face it, going to the wedding of your girlfriend's parents, your girlfriend who you waited like a decade for, whose parents you were already nervous being around because you know they don't approve of you, and then the ex showing up, saying that your girlfriend's mother told him it wasn't too late to be with her all the while reminiscing about history and throwing it in your face that he's the father of your informally adopted kid, then your girlfriend is like oh btw i saw him a while ago and didn't tell you about it, altogether that's pretty bummy. and he needed time to process that. he doesn't actually blame lorelai, he's just like, they're never going to accept me and things like this are just going to keep happening and he was working through his anger and embarrassment but lorelai just wouldn't leave it alone so he says what i'm thinking right now is i can't do this, this is too much and lorelai just took it as a ok well we're going to break up. she didn't give luke the time. but yeah, the whole april scenario was handled extremely poorly. and lorelai's best match was jason anyway. i forgot how much i really liked them together. still like luke and lorelai, though ;)
6. pacey was still my favourite but pandie ftw!

Minor F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Rant - Ross is NOT the Worst
So I’ve hit a little breaking point here. We all know that Friends is iconic, reruns on loop are a huge part of many people’s downtime
But recently, everyone seems to get on Ross Geller’s ass
I think most of it is because it’s easy to pick on him, he’s neurotic and has a tendency to whine and be stubborn. The ‘We were on a break’ debacle still gets argued today - and they were on a break, Rachel even clarified ‘a break from us’, and it’s not like he went to the bar with intention to sleep with someone AND he was 100% right about Mark.
Here’s the thing though, everyone says ‘Ross is awful’ But every one of the Friends are awful, that’s the point, they are all flawed people who try to grow in a way where they get stability. Some may say ‘yeah, but Ross is the worst’ but to that I ask...is he? He’s certainly not great, being snobby, self-loathing and fragile in his masculinity
But let’s consider what the others have done Note: This is not a ‘Why XXX Deserves More Respect’ post, so I’m not all out defending Ross here, I’m just pointing out that his fellow Friends are not as pristine as made out
Phoebe - Phoebe’s past itself is layered in mystery and violence, at some point she stabbed a cop and she mugged a kid Ross, so we will glance over that as her having a past, but I don’t think Ross ever impersonated a police officer, a literal crime, and only got off because the officer was attracted to her. She also implies to be a bigamist since she was married to the ‘gay’ ice skater and also implied to have been married in Vegas, believing that it only counts in Vegas. She also immediately dates her identical twin sister’s ex-fiancé when he broke up with her which is a little bit sketchy, and off-handedly bullies Ross and Chandler, finding times to mock and undermine them. Not to mention the fact that she kissed David while dating Mike, and she also stole a kid’s cat thinking her mother’s soul was in it.
Monica - Equally if not more neurotic due to her OCD, Monica has that destructive side to her too. She sabotaged Rachel’s chances with Jean Claude Van Damme out of jealousy, she dated her ex’s son and she bet away her and Rachel’s apartment in the heat of competitiveness. While an accident she was also reckless with Ben and hit his head and her marriage to Chandler apparently mattered little when she flirted with Celebrities on the roof party. Monica’s hands may be the cleanest of the six but she is not without her faults.
Chandler - Perhaps the most neurotic and self-sabotaging, Chandler is partly responsible for a few of Ross’ relationships falling apart; letting slip that Ross had feelings for Rachel, making Ross write a pros and cons list between Rachel and Julie and taking him to a bar after the break - not to mention telling Ross not to be honest about it and erase all evidence of sleeping with the Xerox Girl, Chloe. He also leaves Ross’ son on a bus - who he took mainly to pick up women, kisses Joey’s sisters and then doesn’t recognize which one he kissed, toys on Rachel’s boss Joanna twice, kisses Joey’s girlfriend, steals several cheesecakes he doesn’t pay for and tells a kid he’s adopted, which is pretty damaging stuff. He also almost runs out on his wedding with Monica, and in an attempt to prank Ross says he has sex with Dinosaurs, and then that he’s dead. His fear of commitment also made him toy with Janice for the early seasons of their on-off relationship.
Joey - I mean, let’s just set aside most of the bachelor stuff, Joey has courted a few taken women, for instance his ex Angela who he wrapped Monica into helping so she could date Angela’s then-boyfriend too, he also slept with Kate while both were dating other people. Outside of dating he also attempted to sabotage one of his students for a part in a show, he abandons Chandler on a highway when he rightfully shows doubts about this movie gig and is too stubborn to admit that Chandler was right, he also threw Ginger’s wooden leg into a fire and bolted and like Chandler lost Ben, contributed to sabotaging Ross with the list and took Ross to a bar during the break. He impersonates a Doctor to get personal information on a patient for Phoebe, tries to steal an award he claims in someone else’s stead and tried to steal his childhood toy from a baby! Joey’s personality is the only thing that really makes people look past his flaws.
Rachel - people say Ross is the worst, but I’d contest that Rachel is far more destructive than Ross, especially towards Ross himself, the on-off relationship of the two had often caused Rachel to be conniving and borderline sociopathic towards him. Most of Ross’ non-Rachel relationships are sabotaged by Rachel - the most direct sabotage being convincing Bonnie to shave her head so she could appear the more attractive option - she invites conflict even without thinking about whether she actually wants to be with Ross, she also does this to Joey. She acts really hostile to Ross’ partners, Julie especially - even Ross was less aggressive towards Mark than Rachel was to Julie, the same can be said with Charlie too when Joey was dating her but not to the same extent as Julie. After kicking Ross out of her office for trying to do a romantic gesture on their year anniversary she instigates the ‘break’, and then immediately let Mark, the focal point of their core argument leading to this break, into her apartment even though she had to know it’d hurt Ross - which it does since this action also causes Ross to spiral further into sleeping with the Xerox girl. After that in Barbados, she was petty enough to immediately after breaking up Ross and Bonnie write an 18 page front-and-back waiver just to justify herself as in the right to date Ross again, in the aftermath of that she also dates a college student just to spite Ross - before Ross then dates a college student and Rachel then dates Elizabeth’s dad. No list of Rachel’s constant sabotage of Ross’ relationships would be complete without mentioning that time she went to (and successfully achieved to) stop Ross and Emily’s wedding too, Ross was legitimately happy and Rachel went to London, professed her love, realised how stupid she was being, and then still won the day. Rachel also demonstrates a lack of independence and petty jealousy of others, seen when out of jealousy for Chandler and Monica getting engaged she tries to booty call Ross twice, the second time getting her pregnant. She also tends to play victim even when she’s in the wrong; when Vegas happened, she painted Ross as a gay heroin addict for the annulment which spirals into Ross having the third divorce he wanted to avoid, she would also later reveal that she remembers suggesting they get married too. She also tries to lump blame on Ross for getting her pregnant even though the video proves that she came onto him and throws Ross under the bus with her father when confronted on why she is not with Ross despite having his baby.
Obviously, in spite of this people will sympathize with Rachel because Barry cheated on her and then went on their honeymoon with the person he cheated on, Maid of Honor Mindy, and because they would also feel that Ross cheated on her too. But Rachel was not above cheating herself: she had sex with Barry knowing he was engaged to Mindy, she would also be Mindy’s maid of honor for that wedding, on top of that she also convinced Ross to let her go on Ross and Emily’s honeymoon, the same thing she was mad at Barry for doing - meaning she was a hypocrite as well. Outside of Ross, Rachel also intentionally conspired to make Chandler and Monica uncomfortable for keeping their relationship secret, she dates her assistant Tag and breaks up with him on her birthday simply because he didn’t fit into her ‘plan’, she stole Monica’s perfect baby name and immediately agrees to marry Joey just so she wouldn’t be alone after having Ross’ baby. In the final episodes she also agrees to a job in Paris without considering how this’d affect Ross, the father of her child who already had to barely see his other son, when she intended to take Emma with her.
As entertaining the characters are they are, by design, not flawless; many times being vengeful saboteurs, having tendencies to be hostile, jealous, unfaithful, judgmental, hypocritical and compulsive liars, with each reaching maturation points at different points in the show (if at all) only in later seasons when they settle down.
While this does include Ross in having his fair share of unlikable moments, I have always felt that it’s unfair that Ross becomes the ‘easy target’ especially when in my opinion Rachel is worse but forgiven mostly because she’s the pretty face and Ross looks like David Schwimmer.
