On my drive back home after the Christmas holidays I had the joy of spotting a total of 15 hawks chilling next to the highway during the last 2h of my drive.
Tumblr media
So what else should I have done except creating this beautiful birb into a lil oc ~?
Tumblr media
I had a lot of fun playing with wings and stuff but I also had A LOT of trouble with legs and all
Tumblr media
I def need to work on that A BUNCH more :T
Don't have much about her at all, except her maybe being a blacksmith and knowing Udon since he's itty bitty
I'm not even sure if you can see that she's supposed to be a hawk, a friend said I should pay attention to not let her look like and eagle, BUT I think the lil beak and spots kinda exclude that? Idk, I'm not big with birds, I just wanted to draw one....
Close ups below cut!

So i’ve been thinking (shocking, really) about the world building for my reverse robins wingfic.
ike, sure, it’s a little fic and ppl prolly won’t notice, but i just cant help but speculate.
in this au, everyone is born with wings unless afflicted with a certain illness, disease, or genetic defect that leaves you with no avian traits (which is the excuse the kents use).
but how would having wings influence the infrastructure? well, i’m glad you asked! cities are more compact because there isn’t really as big a need for transportation unless you’re an aves that’s just not built for long-distance travels like various passeriformes birds.
planes still exist, but they’re utilized by the avians who aren’t able to fly long distances. avians who have wings like albatrosses or terns or other soaring birds would probably require licenses to do their annual migrations and travels- same applies to regualr migritory species like ducks and geese- where the instinct remains despite not needing to migrate.
of course, with the constant migration through countries, i think there would be more mixing of races and ethnicities especially within the migratory bird communities, so there would probably be less overall hostilities.
now, there will still be discriminatory and hateful ideals, and some are shown in my fics. For example, Gotham’s elites are mostly made up of raptors and birds of prey like eagles, kites, kestrels, hawks, falcons, ospreys, owls, etc- birds who actively hunt down mammalian or lizards for prey (in the real world i mean), that is because of displays of powers. Scavengers like condors, vultures, buzzards, are regarded lower on the social ladder but not as low as perching birds and song birds simply because of their ability to have sustained flight.
like i mentioned briefly, songbirds and perching birds (passerines) are regarded lowly in general due to their “weak demeanor” and overall flashiness, which gives them the reputation of being only suitable to work in brothels and such regardless of gender (but especially dudes where the aves species exhibits sexual dimorphism, eg. cardinals, peacocks, golden pheasants, etc.)
there are definitely some exceptions, being corvids. some cultures have corvids as villans, whereas others may portray corvids as intelligent and charming.
now, we arrive to genetics. im still not 100% sure how i want the phenotype of an avian to be passed down. so far, it’s mainly just sons are the same aves as their fathers (like thomas wayne, bruce, and damian are all harpy eagles, but martha wayne was a kingfisher and talia is an imperial eagle), but im not sure abt daughters. genetics is messy, but i think i’ve managed to sertle on a 50/50 chance of being born either the same aves as their mother, or their paternal grandmother. like if damian had been born with xx instead of xy chromosomes, then he’d either have been an imperial eagle like talia, or a kingfisher like martha wayne. intersex people exist too, and i think their wings would be a blend between both their mother and father’s.
now for the the supers and the other metas:
as mentioned previously, the kents claim that their adopted son had a genetic disorder that basically prevented him from growing wings (or just left him in a state similar to humans before they were all “cursed” by a diety to have wings, or whatever. in the dcu, that probably woulnd’t even be too far fetched), so clark lacked a major social component to his childhood. without wings and a tail, others would have a harder time reading his emotions, seeing as these appendages are crucial in nonverbal communication between avians, and that gives clark a leg up in reading other people, but having them not understanding what he’s thinking.
now with jon and kon, they have two VERY different situations. for jon, since his paternal side is wings-free, i just gave him lois’s ave- western kingbird- instead of making him no-winged. kon, on the other hand was a test-tube baby, so it was a toss-up on whether he’d get lex luthor’s purple martin wings, or clark’s no-wings since they’re both guys. I think kon would’ve enjoyed wings, so i gave him the purple martin wings. Plus, they’re pretty much invulnerable, and their wings are no different.
diana and the other ppl from themyscira wouldn’t have wings since they aren’t human, and same applies to the other jl members who aren’t humans.
on a wholly separate note: the lazarus pits. here, not only does it give you white streaks in your hair, it’ll bleach out your feathers. so liek if a peacock was thrown into the pit, not only would they die and come back manic, their feathers would make them look like piebald, or have different markings or white ticking.
anyways, that’s the end of my long post, and i hope yall enjoyed listening to me speculate and talk about birds and my silly little guys!!

There are 8 brackets, with 208 species featured! Ranges were determined either using the self-report feature added to the submission box or with eBird sightings. "Cosmopolitan" is a bracket involving species of birds which were found on at least three continents, regardless of which they were submitted for. "Eurasia" are birds which seem to appear equally between Europe and Asia (majority of the continent, not just Middle East). "the Americas" includes all of the Americas, with US birds removed- granted, some Canadian or Mexican birds can show up in the US, but they're not common enough backyard birds (imo) to have been disqualified.
Please-- feel free to advocate for whichever bird you vote for! I would love to get some more participation with this tournament, especially since this is a poll with popular bird species.
Polls will be a week long, and are tagged #Great Backyard Bird Off. All subsequent reblogs are tagged as #poll reblog. Be sure to block this tag if you want to avoid me spamming your dash. Any reblogs containing support for a species will be tagged #[species] support. Results will be tagged #poll results.

One of the forget-me-nots would bring an INSTRUMENT? Please elaborate on kitty-cat instruments I’m so curious - also I am picturing Barley Sr. with a cat guitar singing cat country songs.
I have a mostly complete entry on instruments I've been sitting on for a few months, it just needs art before I can release it
BUT they have a couple of them! The one I had in mind is this simple flute-like instrument called a Breezebone. The bones of large birds are hollow and can be made into an instrument with just a few extra holes drilled in, so they're made of geese, ducks, hawks, buzzards, owls, etc.
They then combine that with the horn of an invasive muntjac, sanded down and hollowed out, so it's louder.
It's the sort of thing Barley Sr. would be good at making if you taught him how, but I imagine that either Oakheart and Lizardstripe owns it. Someone else gave them a really nice one, y'know?

Hello everypony!!
Something that absolutely nobody asked for, but shall receive anyways; Phighters as birds! List is under the cut due to it just being a wall of text, some having explanations provided with my selections. Trust me, there is a LOT of reading; I babble a lot. You've been warned.
Sword as the Passenger Pigeon
I always have Sword's species listed as something that's either extinct or originating from mythology (for example, I have his demon species paired with a Kitsune.) I also just think a pigeon of some sorts is rather befitting for him.
Biografts as Canadian geese
Known as one of the most aggressive geese; they are considered invasive in some areas. I also just found it silly. Prone to changing into a different goose, the spur-winged goose. I haven't fully decided yet.
Skateboard as the Red-breasted (or Rufous-Chested) Swallow
This one is mostly based on it's appearance, however it's swiftness plays into this selection as well, due to their speed being quite well-known amongst this species.
Katana as the Great Horned Owl
Adaptable, silent, and skilled at hunting, I believed that this was a near-perfect fit! That, alongside the fact that it's an owl, the bird that (if I recall correctly) Katana's face mask is based off of. I don't know, I just thought most of the physical characteristics were rather befitting for him.
Banhammer as the Black-chested Buzzard Eagle
Honestly I don't know. I think this one was solely based on appearance. I tragically struggle on finding good facts on these birds. I'm pretty sure they drop their prey in order to incapacitate them though which I find funny for him. I could be wrong abt this fact though ^_^"
Rocket as the Great Eared Nightjar
Honestly I forgot why I chose this for Rocket. I'm pretty sure a friend recommended it and i was just like . "ok"
Slingshot as the Alpine swift
Quick and social! However mostly sticks to the same explanation as the one above. Sorry chat :(
Hyperlaser as the Rough-legged Hawk
A friend talked me into changing Hyperlaser into this one. He gave me the reasons of, and I quote; "good vision, fast as fuck, and people put helmets on them" which i think he was referring to those funny hood things they put on hawks sometimes. Aweosme reasons honestly
Shuriken as the Seagull
Annoying little thief. I don't know why but I could only think of him as a seabird. Maybe it's because of Shurifin. Shrugs my litle shoulders
Medkit as the Chinese Pond Heron (heavily inspired by Caladrius)
Discussed this one with friends, too; we settled on this funny bird because we struggled on agreeing on something for like. thirty minutes. But once I brought this heron up we all jsut kind of like. nodded together in agreement i think. Silly stuff
Boombox as the Violet-green Swallow
Mainly for the colors, but they can also symbolize "good luck or positive change", which I find charming for Boombox and his unending optimism. He lifts the spirits of others! :]
Subspace as the Hooded Pitohui
POISONOUS CORVID POISONOUS CORVID!! It was too perfect. That, and the appearance?? MWA this is THE Subspace bird.
Vinestaff as the Fairy Prion Bird
I wanted to keep her relatively the same as her sibling Shuriken, so she gets to be a seabird, too. Couldn't find many facts on this one, too :( I have a cool design in mind but that will most likely Never actually Get Drawn Out. Same goes for all of these dudes sorry gamers .
If you came this far, thank you for reading my rambling. I need suggestions for npcs and deities; the deities are all mythological birds. we have two listed so far, that being Firebrand as the Firebird, and Ghostwalker as the Pheonix. Zuka is listed as a harpy eagle, but that's very open to change. Open to feedback and/or cool facts on any of these funny selections! :]

Adrift Chapter 20) Charge
Tumblr media
.-.-.
The Morvan was a mountainous area that had a rich flora and fauna. Wild flowers bloomed, primroses, figwort, wood anemones, wild daffodils. Raspberries and strawberries were widespread. Birds found it a paradise, buzzards, hawks and falcons preyed on the much smaller sparrows, magpies and swallows. Small hunters such as foxes and badgers kept the rabbit, hare, and squirrel population under control. Deer were also frequent visitors of the beautiful area.
For the first time since Ivar had been dragged through the walls of the castle of de Haar, food was abundant. It was bittersweet, because every bite seemed to turn to ash in his mouth.
As the last ember of the campfire diminished, he chose the solitude of the forest, crawling far away from their camp once dawn spared him enough light.
Truth was; he could not stand to be in the presence of the maidens. It was like an avalanche; the thickness of the air as he dared to think of either one of them. It choked him as he submerged himself in his own flagellating thoughts. He had to face the fact that one maiden would never trust him again if she knew what he did with the other.
Ivar hadn’t feared much in his life, but he’d rather drown than read this betrayal in Piglet’s dark eyes.
“I know Utstott, I fucked up,” Ivar agreed with a deep huff as his faithful companion nipped sharp at his earlobe, digging his claws into his shoulder. The white raven hopped a little aside, agitated.
It pained Ivar to confess; but there were moments he missed being locked inside the walls of the castle of de Haar. Life had been cruel; but simple. Everything wore either the color white or black; everyone was simply the enemy. His days were mundane and well-organized; survive, endure, feed the pigs, eat as many scraps as you can. He did not need to think nor feel, simply because he lacked the strength, and hunger occupied every inch of his being, too much to care about anything or anyone else.
Now that those cherished walls had crumbled, everything else started to grab him by the throat. There wasn’t any pain nor hunger to occupy his mind, body and soul. And in all honesty, he’d love to trade places with his former self locked inside that dingy shed; because he struggled so dearly with coming to terms with these feelings.
“Oh Utstott, if I could trade bodies just for a day,” Ivar reminisced to the white raven and swallowed a large lump in the back of his throat as he watched the bird lift itself atop the wind and leave him all alone in his solemness.
The guttural distraught cry of Piglet made all the hairs of his neck and arm bristle. His entire body snapped toward the sound and into fight-mode.
Following Utstott’s rushed caws, Ivar dragged his lower body forth as fast as he could. At the camp, he spotted Valere huddling underneath the ox-wagon, both animals bucking and bolting at the forestline. “Where is she?!” Ivar shouted in panic, crawling agitated underneath the wagon once he did not receive an immediate answer. Dragging her palms away from her face he gave her a harsh shove. “WHERE IS SHE?!” he repeated, screaming this time as Piglet’s scream echoed through the maze of trees. “I don’t know!” Valeríe cried out, “there was a wild boar, it attacked the oxes, she tried to distract them and it went after her.” The muscles in his arms tightened and for a moment air evaporated from his lungs. A damn boar. He let go of Valeríe immediately, trudging toward the immediate danger. A damn boar, his nostrils flared and he shouted out: “PIGLET, FIND A TREE, HIDE UP HIGH!” The head of a wild boar could take up a third of its body. They were unpredictable, once they started to charge it was almost impossible to outrun them. Their razor sharp tusks could do a lot of damage, if not be lethal.
In blind panic Ivar pushed himself through bushes, crushing ferns, hitting his knees over tree roots until he finally spotted Piglet.
Of all damn trees she could have picked she’d taken refuge into a gaunt elm tree of not even ten winters old. Screaming at the top of her lungs she only agitated the four legged furry monster, who was growling and charging the tree trunk over and over again.
Ivar had the advantage of being on higher ground, and was given the bird's eye view of the situation. He would have had a clear shot, if he’d possessed a bow and arrow, or any other weapon. But Piglet’s distress call had casted all logic from his system and so it was time for a rash decision.
He threw himself downhill, making as much noise as was humanly possible. Once his body rolled into view it stunned the wild boar for a mere moment. And then the animal did what Ivar hoped it would do; it focused on a new target. Him.
The collision was so powerful it nearly knocked him out. The agitated squeals of the feral animal kept him conscious and, instinctively, he covered his face in his arms. The speed of the animal was incredible, before Ivar could brace himself for another attack the animal charged at him again. His body scraped over the uneven terrain, curling into fetal position; the third charge was the worst; the animal trampled over him. His view started to turn black and Ivar sensed that if he did not fight back the mauling would not end.
Reacting out of sheer willpower, Ivar managed to sit up and block the forth collision by grabbing the fierce sharp tusks. The animal squealed high and in pain. Although his sight started to fail him, Ivar caught a glimpse of Piglet bracing herself atop the animal, stabbing her dagger inside the boar’s broad neck over and over again. At the sight of her, Ivar managed to draw in one long breath and steady the vigorously bucking animal.
It was Ivar’s last image; Piglet's trembling hands, chin and lips, covered in blood before collapsing.
.-.-.
ValerĂe had seen her fair share of maladies, but the sight of the massacred boar left a bad taste in her mouth and an everlasting image for her nightmares. The unrestrained weeping from the bloody maiden would be the soundtrack of said nightmares.
Lifeless, the cripple lay on his side, the boar's tusks had ripped the skin of his face open from his lower lip, over his upper lip all the way up to his cheekbone. He must be bleeding from other places too; Valeríe had watched in horror how the wild boar’s hooves had stomped all over him.
“Hamar, hamar!” Piglet whaled, shaking the unconscious form by the shoulders, “hamar, don’t leave me, hamar!” Quivering from head to toe, she pressed a hand to his throat, bringing her face close to his chest.
Their eyes met and locked, it took a lot of effort for the veiled maiden to repose her venomous tone to address her.
“He’s breathing, barely, go get water, clean clothes, hurry!” Valeríe found herself reacting obediently to the barking commands of the other young woman. Once Valerie returned with the requested items, the two of them performed a small miracle; the cripple opened his eyes. He clutched his chest to gasp for air and heave, blood stained saliva drooling from his slack jaws.
Piglet shouted at him to breathe, he gurgled up more blood, face shaking from side to side, pressing into the dry terrain while trying to inhale. But it was hard on him, chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. His breathing quickened and he gasped as if he was choking on his own breath.
‘He is’, Valeríe realized, she’d seen it happen once or twice before when customers drank themselves into near oblivion. She got down on her knees and clasped her hand over his mouth, cutting off the airflow. She had to brace her grip around his face, eyes snapping open in blind panic and head twisting and turning.
Piglet must have known what she tried to do, because objectively it appeared she was trying to smother him. The unrelenting glare she gave to go forth told Valeríe she trusted her as far as she could throw her, but she did not stop her when she pressed both hands on the cripple’s mouth to prevent him from squirming out of her grip.
“Hamar, breath! Slow deep breath, from here” Piglet shouted, pressing her hand down below his ribs. Both flinched once the cripple let out an awful moan followed by a lot of gurgling, bloody bubbles foamed up from Valeríe hands and the gasping started all over again.
It dawned on Valeríe that she had no idea what damage might have erupted on the inside and in horror she stared at her bloody hands and her grip eased for a mere moment.
He was fast, given he was in such a state. He gripped her palms with both his hands and started twisting them. ValerĂe cried out and was about to let go, not wanting both her wrist to be broken.
“IVAR!” Piglet exclaimed at the top of her lungs and he jerked his head into her direction.
“Don’t fight, breathe, please, breathe!” She exclaimed, bracing both her palms on his temples. For a moment Valerie thought Piglet was going to kiss him, leaning in until the tips of their noses touched.
“You are viking Ivar, breathe!” She pleaded, keeping his head firmly pressed into the dirt. His grip around Valeríe’s wrists eased, his animosity of her hold evaporated and changed, instead of fighting her he clung to her, like a small child did to the skirts of his mother. He drew in a sharp breath and gasped and of all of the things she could do, Piglet started singing.
A small shadow circled over their heads and the white raven Valeríe had seen before landed on Piglet’s shoulder cocking his head from side to side to watch the cripple slowly catch back his breath. In and exhaling through his nose his breathing went from shallow to deep, gasping every few breaths.
The troublesome gasps eventually dissipated, but Piglet never stopped singing. Not when she rose up to fetch water and rip apart pieces of clean clothing, not when she pragmatically started to tear open his tunic to locate more damage.
There it was again, that intimacy in their actions. Although Ivar still held Valeríe’s wrist in a dead grip his focus lay on Piglet and although his body was in pain his gaze was at ease, exhausted but relieved.
  As Piglet tore away layers of fabric, a blotched path of hoove shaped bruises came into view. The large animal had run over his chest.
Piglet’s song paused once she worked her way down his legs. There were two skin deep tissue lacerations on his thigh. Before more blood could flow from the wounds, Piglet pressed the clean rags over them and started bandaging them further up.
Piglet refocused her attention back at Valeríe imposing the same utilitarian tone: “this needs stitches, I can’t do it here,” evidently asking was too much effort. Instead, Piglet nudged toward Ivar’s shoulders.
As the pair of maidens dragged the cripple, Piglet resumed her sweet song.
.-.-.
A/N: Did I spend half a night on ‘wild boar attacks?’ You bet I did! Ok, can I just say how utterly devoted Ivar is to Piglet? It did not take him a second to throw himself into battle to keep her out of harm's way. Now can we rewind back to tv-show-Ivar? Who claimed to love a certain maiden, then beat her and eventually murder her child? Yeah, adrift-Ivar is so rocking this redemption arc. And isn’t it wonderful that it takes just about a violent death to make Piglet pick up speaking again? This maiden and her grudges…

Quiz Pharo considers himself to be a man of simple needs. His job though, is far from simple.
Since I'm back in the groove of posting fanfiction I figured I'd re-share this one shot I posted a while back. I wrote this for a Storm Hawks fic-writing workshop that my friend @grimm-the-6th (also @ashe-alter) started up a year ago. The goal was to write a short slice-of-life fic with a set word count about either a canon character from the show or an oc, so I picked my boi Quiz whom I made for the very first bird OC challenge back in 2021. He's come a long way since I first designed him for that challenge.
I had a lot of fun writing this. There's some sweet domesticity between Quiz and his vampire merb wife, Patricias, lore about the rulers of Terra Amazonia, and I created a member of the Buff Buzzards squadron to subject to Quiz's weirdly nice interrogation techniques.
I wrote this with the intention of getting feedback for it so I can improve my writing, so any pointers or critique is welcome. In the meantime, I hope this is a fun read for you.

To preface, I mean this as politely as possible. I'm sorry but this isn't true because hawk isn't a taxonomic category. That is the point of the joke. There are more birds called "hawk" outside of genus Accipiter than there are inside genus Accipiter, ESPECIALLY after the recent Accipiter split. Buzzard isn't a taxonomic category either for the record-- see genus Pernis, genus Kaupifalco, and genus Butastur for non-Buteo buzzards.
I've already discussed this a bit, but honestly, limiting to Accipitrinae is more reasonable than limiting just to Accipiter because like, now you're excluding Cooper's Hawk, Bicolored Hawk, and a whole bunch of sparrowhawk and goshawks from hawk because... why?
Tumblr media
Actually hell by this logic-- lets walk through it. There are only 6 species in genus Accipiter. Only two of them are called "hawk"-- Sharp Shinned Hawk and Gray-Bellied Hawk. So we only have two actual hawks. Nobody else gets to be a hawk
This isn't even beginning to get into non-english common names. Moral of the story, hawk is not a taxonomic catagory, and we shouldn't treat it like one.

(via Ciona Rouse: "Red-Shouldered Hawk")
We met in the middle of the street only to discuss the Buteo lineatus, but we simply said hawk because we knew nothing of Latin. We knew nothing of red in the shoulder, of true hawks versus buzzards, or what time they started their mornings, what type of snake they stooped low and swift to eat. We knew nothing. Or, I should say, at least I knew nothing, and he said nothing of what he knew that day except one thing he said he thought, but now I say he knew: I’m going to die soon, my neighbor said to me and assured he had no diagnosis, just a thought. He said it just two weeks before he died outdoors just twenty steps away from where we stood that day— he and I between the porch I returned to and twisted the key to my door to cross the threshold into my familiar like always I do and the garage he returned to and twisted some wrench probably on a knob of the El Camino like always he did every day when usually I’d wave briefly en route from carport to door sometimes saying “how’s it going,” expecting only the “fine” I had time to digest. Except today when I stepped out of my car, he waved me over to see what I now know to call the Buteo. When first I read its Latin name, I pronounced it boo-TAY-oh before learning it’s more like saying beauty (oh!). I can’t believe I booed when it’s always carrying awe. Like on this day, the buzzard—red-shouldered and usually nesting in the white pine—cast a shadow upon my lawn just as I parked, and stared back at us— my mesmerized neighbor and me—perched, probably hunting, in the leaning eastern hemlock in my yard. Though back then I think I only called it a tree because I knew nothing about distinguishing evergreens because I don’t think I ever asked or wondered or searched yet. I knew nothing about how they thrive in the understory. Their cones, tiny. And when they think they’re dying, they make more cones than ever before. How did he know? Who did he ask and what did he search to find the date that he might die, and how did he know to say soon to me and only me and then, right there in that garage with his wrench and the some other parts unknown for the El Camino and the radio loud as always it was, stoop down, his pledge hand anxious against his chest, and never rise again? And now the hemlock, which also goes by Tsuga canadensis, which is part Latin, part Japanese, still leans, still looks like it might fall any day now, weighed down by its ever-increasing tiny fists. And the Buteo returns each winter to reclaim the white pine before spring. Most hawks die by accident—collision, predation, disease. But when it survives long enough to know it’s dying, it may find a familiar tree and let its breath weaken in a dark cranny. And my neighbor’s wife and I now meet in the middle, sometimes even discussing birds but never discussing that day. And I brought her roses on that first anniversary without him because we sometimes discuss a little more than birds. And the Buteo often soar in twos, sometimes solo. So high I cannot see their shoulders, but I know their voices now and can name them even when I don’t see them. No matter how high they fly, they see me, though I don’t concern them. They watch a cottonmouth, slender and sliding silent in tall grass. And the cardinals don’t sing. They don’t go mute, either. They tink. Close to their nests and in their favorite trees, they know when the hawk looms. And their voices turn metallic: tink, tink, tink.

Do you have any ideas for a Celtic/Gaelic miracle box?
Ooh that's quite a tricky one I'm afraid the closest one I have myself is a general European Miracle Box with connections to the traditional western zodiac. There is a Celtic Zodiac though but unfortunately there's quite a bit of overlap with Miraculous that already exist in canon.
There's the Deer/Stag which is already in the Native American Box, the Cat and of course we have the Black Cat or just Cat depending on your preference, the Adder (we're already going to have two snakes, Sass and whatever snake is in the Native American box), the Fox (Trixx), the Cow/Bull (we have Stompp who's an Ox but still), the Seahorse which is our first one without a canon Miraculous (I have my own Seahorse kwami Akwwa the kwami of Generosity), then another kwami we don't have the Wren, back to canon we have the Horse (Kaalki), now the next one is the Salmon or Fish there was a fish miraculous in the original concepts for the series a pair of earrings or cufflinks which you could draw inspiration from but there is a Salmon miraculous in the Native American box so you'd either have to stick with the generic fish like Sass or Barkk who are just generic animals or go with a more specialized fish like a pike or carp, after that we have another new one the Swan (I have a swan kwami as well as does my friend @mymiraclebox. My Swan is named Duchess and represents Reflection and theirs is named Prrince and represents Loyalty), next we have another dud the Butterfly although it could easily be changed to a moth (I have a moth kwami named Atticus who represents Oblivion), the final two are out as well unfortunately with the Wolf/Hound and the Falcon/Hawk since we have a Wolf and Falcon kwami in the Native American Box and we have Barkk (although a Hawk can be distinct enough to be its own kwami I myself have a Falcon and a Hawk)
In general I think you'd have to get creative to make a Celtic box with either entirely new animals or you'd have to move just far enough away from the original Zodiac to be distinct but still recognizable.
In the case of the latter I'd probably go with
Reindeer or Moose for the Stag
Lynx for the Cat
Adder could probably still work I mean I have a Rattlesnake along with Sass
Arctic Fox instead of the Fox although personally I think that'd be towing the line a little much
Aurochs for the Cow/Bull
Unicorn or maybe Kelpie for the Horse
Moth like I said for the Butterfly
Jackal for the Dog/Hound
And then you can still use the Seahorse, Wren, Fish, Swan, and Hawk from the original set. I'd also probably add a few others because the other Zodiac Boxes aren't just the zodiac so I'd suggest maybe a Nightingale, Squirrel, Toad, Weasel/Polecat, Buzzard, Hedgehog, Robin, and or Badger
I hope this was useful sorry I couldn't help more 🙂

Buzzard is an ambiguous identifier for a wide range of species. In Eurasia (the ‘Old World’) it refers to Buteo hawks, which are similar to the Red-tail. However, in the Americas (the ‘New World’) it mostly refers to carrion eaters such as vultures with Buteo hawks either being referred to as Buteos or buzzard hawks. (Red-tailed hawk)

Give Me Wings
Rowaelin Month, Day 24: Missing scene from canon
Designing Aelin’s new tattoo in Kingdom of Ash because we deserve that. It got a little emotional...but so was their reunion...so......
Word count: 1304
Warnings: Emotions. Lots of them.
~~~~~
Every mark on his mate’s body had been erased--the scars from Endovier, from the years as Adarlan’s Assassin, the calluses, bruises, and bumps she’d earned during long hours of training, even the faint burn marks she carried from learning to control the wildfire that raged inside her veins. And her tattoos, the three scrolling lines of Old Language that told the story of how Aelin Ashryver Galathynius conquered the darkness that threatened her brightly burning existence.
The tattoos Rowan had poured his heart and soul into. Gone.
Aelin had barely spoken in the days since their reunion, the invisible scars Maeve had inflicted still too fresh, too deeply engraved. He watched her with Fenrys, the silent language they shared in the blinking of their eyes conveying so much more than speech. He watched how she curled against him in the nights, her eyes brimming with all the things she wanted to tell him but couldn’t yet bring herself to say. In the darkness of the night, Rowan gladly shared his body heat with Aelin, hoping his silence was comfort, hoping she could read the unspoken promise that whenever she was ready, he was there for her.
As they passed through the caves, guided by the Little Folk, Rowan sensed a spark of Aelin’s flame returning. When she mustered a smirk, an offhand snarky comment, his heart swelled with joy. And for the first time in months, a pulse of her own happiness slipped down the bond in response. It would take time, time they might be borrowing, before the queen of Terrasen was once again her fiery, sharp-tongued self, but she had started to move from the blackness of the past months into the hope of the future.
He knew some of it was for show, knew she was making herself smile and swagger and tease and lift Goldryn to stop the “fussing.” Yet he was more than happy to train with her on the small deck, to steal her focus for a few hours and keep her mind from falling into despondence.
There were nights when she woke up in tears, shaking, always silent but always in pain. Those were the nights when she either burrowed closer into his side or quietly got up and curled against Fenrys in his wolf form. Rowan couldn’t hold anything against Fenrys; after all, he too had suffered at Maeve’s hand and if his presence could comfort Aelin, she deserved the companionship.
Every night after they’d exchanged rings in the treasure cave, Rowan kissed the obnoxiously large emerald on her left hand. To whatever end, Fireheart. Though she didn’t respond verbally, the tears that welled in her depthless turquoise eyes spoke more than words ever could.
The night they saw stars, signaling they were almost at the end of the cave passages, Aelin produced a small, soft flame in her cupped hands. Rowan sat next to her, watching as she played with the flame, gradually expanding it into a sphere of flickering light that cast warmth around the whole small group. Ever so gently, he placed his hand on her back, offering support. I’m proud of you, Fireheart.
For the first time in too long, she responded. To whatever end, Rowan.
To whatever end, my queen.
Later, as everyone was drifting off to sleep, Rowan slipped paper and charcoal out of his pack. Knowing Aelin was still awake, he brushed a hand down her back. She rolled over.
“What’s that for?”
Seating himself next to her, he spread out the page, revealing Old Language symbols sprawled haphazardly across part of the paper. “This is your story.”
“Is that…is that your sketch of my tattoo?”
“Yes.”
She looked at him, tears pooling in her eyes. “Rowan, it’s gone.”
“I know, Fireheart. I know.”
“She rutting stole it from me. My tattoo. My link to you.”
“You’ll always have a link to me, Aelin.” He touched his heart. “Here.”
Aelin twisted her ring around her finger. “Rowan?”
“Hmm?”
“Would you tattoo me again?”
“Of course,” he breathed, “of course I would.”
A soft smile crept across her face. “I want a hawk. A buzzard, just like you.”
“Aelin--”
“I’m serious, buzzard. Like this.” Taking the charcoal, she traced a series of swooping curves onto the page. “Look. This shape, Rowan.” She cast a soft golden light over the paper.
Rowan gazed at the design she’d created, a set of hawklike wings with three longer lines, like rays of light, underneath. “It’s gorgeous, Fireheart. May I?” He held out his hand, and she gave him the charcoal. Carefully, he added a light curve linking the three rays and a Terrasen knot above them. “What do you think?”
Tears dripped down her cheeks. “I love it. I love you. How soon can I wear it?”
“I need a few days to work out the script, but we can start the process in about four days, I think.”
“What are you writing this time?”
“Your story.”
“I want you in it.”
He blinked. “What?”
“You are part of my story, Rowan Whitethorn. Put us in my tattoo. Tell my story, yes, tell all of it. Sam, Endovier, Adarlan, Doranelle, our bond, everything. I want it all.”
Rowan swept away the tear before Aelin could see it. “Of course, Fireheart,” he managed, his voice husky with emotion.
Aelin picked up the charcoal again and sketched an elegant symbol onto the page.
“What’s that one?”
She smiled. “The Wyrdmark for home.”
~
Every free moment he had, Rowan worked at the tattoo, filling Aelin’s graceful lines with Old Language script. As promised, he told her whole story, the tale of a young princess who loved her kingdom and the Fae prince who loved her. He labored over each character of the ancient Fae calligraphy, rendering every word precisely.
All the better to intertwine Wyrdmarks with the Old Language.
The home mark Aelin drew for him…it made him wonder if she knew his plan to include a centuries-old spell in her tattoo. He’d discovered, while combing through Aelin’s extensive library of Wyrdmark books and scrolls, a series of marks that could act as a map between mates. It was a simple enough line of markings, and as long as they were all in the same line, it didn’t matter what else wove around them.
So he sketched the chain of Wyrdmarks across the wings of his mate’s tattoo, one mark in each feather, to let her fly home.
After four days of careful sketching, Rowan had a finished design. He took the design, his tools, and ink to Aelin’s tent when they camped for the night and tapped on the post.
“Aelin?”
“Come in.”
She was perched on her cot when he entered, a map of Erilea spread on her lap.
“Is that the design, Rowan?”
“Yes, yes it is. It’s finished. I wanted you to see it before agreeing to have it inked onto you forever.”
She scanned the page, tears springing to her eyes. “It’s perfect.”
“Where are we drawing it, Fireheart?”
“On my back, of course. Wings across my shoulder blades.”
Rowan nodded slowly. “Are you ready?”
Aelin folded up the map, pulled her cot into the center of her tent, and spread an old sheet over the top of it. “I am.”
“Shift for me, my love. It’s better to tattoo you in your Fae form because of the salt and iron in the ink. And you heal faster in a Fae body.”
Aelin closed her eyes and breathed deeply.
I believe in you, Fireheart.
She inhaled a steadying breath. And shifted.
I love you too, Rowan.
The smile he gave her flooded her heart with joy. “We’ll do the wings today; the rest either tomorrow or the day after.”
Aelin pulled her shirt off and lay facedown on the cot. “Then give me wings, carranam.”
This doesn't follow the pattern of mha ship names, but all I've got is vulture shipping, them and their fowl play and eating carrion together, it's the opposite of All Might being a bald eagle too. AFO has been represented as that bird in fanart, and Hawks is a scavenger removing dead carcasses, which funnily enough is something AFO does too for his Nomu. Perfect match.
I actually really like this. Hawks are carrion eaters, and vulture is actually one my favorite villain!au names for Hawks (besides Fury), and vultures are raptors. And with latest "Hawks went and cleaned up the body" thing, I think the imagery is kind of well-founded in canon, as is the comparison to AFO hunting for noumu!materials. Oddly, there are no actual vultures in Japan besides the Eastern Buzzard, which actually I think kind of resembles Keigo. The japanese word for vultures, however, is hagetaka, which literally means Bald Hawk.
idk if vulture shipping sounds just right, but it's definitely in the right direction.
However, there's another hint you've given me: fowl play. It's a great pun on Foul Play which is just: Unfair, unethical, or criminal behavior, especially of a malicious or violent nature.
So, at this point either it's something with Vultures or Fowl Play.
