this was WAY before nagant revelations. I do think it was mostly spot on in the HSPC killing people and hawks being more akin to a trained govt spy and likely assassin replacement for a much more overworked government assassin. Unfortunately, this went *nowhere* because AFO is such a convenient way for Horikoshi to avoid world-building.
edgelord theory dont look too hard
i have a bunch of stuff floating around in my brain, but this is like a very messy one - what if we justâŚ.underestimated what the HPSC did to Hawks?Â
Iâm very struck by the line âwho takes care of the heroesâ Uraraka spoke - especially when thereâs discussions of heroes disappearing in vigilantes. Of course it makes it sound like thereâs a witness protection, but then we see Keigo and JeanistâŚ
If Jeanist is dead, and it would be smart to kill him, HawksâŚdidnât hesitate. Iâm pretty sure the HSPC would have been fine with Jeanist dying; if it wasnât for Hawks trying to fool the League, they would have ruled it a natural death to quiet down anxieties, but the League wasnât supposed to know the HPSC is behind Hawks.
Hawks is âŚ.very proficient at killing. Heâs also trained in subterfuge and avoiding vitals, but also knowing what is fatal. The idea of âspecial heroesâ - he doesnât act like a hero. Unlike Miruko who clearly doesnât want to hold back, Hawks is⌠just trained to get the job. He wasnât trained to only be a hero; thereâs something more going on here.
@dykehawks and @comradetodoroki all kind of helped me bounce around idea, and dykehawks specifically mentioned the lots of falconry imagery in Hawks (which I absolutely agree with). The blindfold is common among training raptors (like hawks) to obey; and of course, theyâre trained specifically to fetch prey. Raptors trained this way are kind of rewarded with food; Hawksâ fixation on food is kind of a very apparent part of his character since heâs very much outspoken on food in both the main and spin off manga, and as a neglected child, perhaps food was part of his training? Much like a raptor; a reward was food?
(It reminds me a lot of Crona in Soul Eater, and Iâve always gotten those vibes whenever the HPSC came up)
Anyway, this is a very edgy theory but the main part is this; the HSPC hasâŚsome pipeline. Maybe Hawks is the prototype. Maybe not. But thereâs kids from disadvantaged backgrounds, or ill children, they use. Maybe not to the extent Hawks was, but they make use of the children. Maybe some go to hero schools to spy on others (theory in-coming!), and maybe some are trained in helping retired heroes in their retirement.
The worst thing for a hero society is to have old hasbeens who can sway conversations one way or another, who can be openly resentful of the system and not feed of it. We donât see any *super* famous old heroes. Gran seemed to be lowkey, and for a reason, given his involvement with Nana. Yoroimusha is the oldest still active. Iâm a little too lazy to dig up pictures of how odd this is in Vigilantes, but it is odd how heroes disappear.
And⌠maybe the HPSC has cleaners. People they train to go after older heroes, or people causing trouble. People no one would really be wary of. Kids. Maybe itâs a way of training those cleaners for better things.
Idk??? this is me just throwing out ideas - I think itâs just likely that weâve been so focused on Hawks being a failure in all terms as a hero that we never considered he was never one, technically. I maintain the only âmistakeâ Dabi made with Hawks is not ânot trusting him because heroes are all scumâ but assuming Hawks played by the rules heroes do; no one expected Hawks to kill Twice. Except, of course, Hawks.
this would move the HPSC to be the main villains; and I do think they might be -especially if AFO has fingers in that pie, somehow.

Mha ending isn't "realistic" its convenient.
Convenient for a "i want to end this as soon as possible" mindset.
If it had a realistic resolution then, it would have taken into account that once the main villans are defeated, there would be a power absence in the criminal world, and there would be MORE villans trying to get into power, but that wouldn't be convenient so other criminals just, stopped trying after the big bad was defeated.
In a realistic ending, other characters would question ochako quirk program, which main premise is "let's play with kids and hope for the best" any character with a bit of grey matter would question her method, and put in spotlight the many ways it can fail, but that wouldn't be convenient, so every character accepts it and praises it
The end of a war would make people feel relief at first but also feel scared and more open to question heroes, specially after watching people die on national tv, but naaah that would require time and we need to end this now so everyone is fine with it who cares.
Deku after losing ofa choosing to focus on being a teacher instead of focusing on hero work even when he never had a previous interest in teaching isn't realistic, if it were, then whe would've an arc or previous mention he enjoys teaching but that would require time and that's isn't convenient so lets just wrap in the last two chapters that teaching is fulfilling to him but also let's give him a hero suit to sell figures and have a excuse for the inevitable "my hero academia 2: more academia than ever, now with deku son beku"
Convenient, to marketing, to storytelling, to just getting rid of this, event's in this no longer have a weight or consequence, things just simply happens according to end it all.
You all know how much I HATE, when people call mha ending "realistic" it's dumb, it doesn't have a basis, and is misinterpreting the concept of "realism" because to some people realism is just, misery and bad, sad endings, because reality = shit, when that's not the case, realism in writing is just an objetive view of reality, an exploration of the life of people with the purpose to make a change, not every realistic work is miserable and hopeless. Realistically oppose fantasy so mha is at its core unrealistic, just because deku end in a job with a suit that he didn't really wanted at first doesn't make it a realistic ending, it simply makes it a bad ending.

It was always really creepy to me how All might and Gran Torino too never seemed to take an interest in how Tomura ended up in Afoâs hands. Or to what happened to Koutaro. I donât think I remember them doing any research on the Shimuras, which⌠is horrifying. They just found out the son of their dead mentor/friend was horribly killed, and then they never mention it again? Besides, they thought Afo was dead for five whole years, and neither of them thought about checking on Koutaro before? Really?
Then they find out that his child was likely kidnapped and turned into a Villain by the guy they were trying to protect the Shimuras from and still nothing? Not even some sense of guilt?
Instead we get Gran stating that itâs basically all Tomuraâs fault.
Whatâs even more ridiculous is that his mentors researching what happened would have been the perfect link for Deku to grow some interest earlier on Shigaraki. And also to finally realize Heroes are fallible.
A child with a heroic heritage, becoming a villain. All of his old kindergarten teachers and neighbours state that he used to be a perfectly normal, even kind child. What couldâve possibly happened?
They donât care because already back then BNHA revealed its stance about Villains.
In the hospital All Might thinks at Tomura and is troubled by how âhis masterâs own kin lost himself so much in evilâ aka he doesnât think he could have been a poor kid that got manipulated by an expert manipulator, no, he canât accept someone related to his master isnât on a righteous path.
He still wants to find the boy but then itâs clear heâs unsure about what heâll do after. Gran Torino tells him he must not search for him because if he sees him as anything less than a Villain no good will come from it because no matter who his parents are, heâs a dangerous Villain.
In short neither of the two is seeing Tomura as a manipulated kid, theyâre seeing him as âShimuraâs grandsonâ and as a âVillainâ. They donât care about how or why Tomura has became a Villain, they donât care how All for One had clearly lead him to that path, they only care heâs a Villain now.
All for One tells him Tomura hates him and that he has engineered Tomura and All Mightâs meetings. Itâs clear All for One has manipulated the situation and very likely has manipulated Tenko but they donât care. Itâs the same thing that Horikoshi has Shouto saying âdad was a madman! Our family was screwed upâ but when you burned all those people to death⌠that was your choice.â
Basically for them Tomura chose to become a Villain, all that All for One could have done to encourage/manipulate him into this direction is irrelevant.
Gran Torino searches for Tomura with the express intention to murder him.
He tells him he has to âquit trampling all over Shimuraâs memory and that his very existence hurt Toshinori so much and made everyone sufferâ (Chap 277). Later, with Midoriya, heâll lament it should have been him the one who made the kill and that killing can be another way to save someone so Midoriya shouldnât forget that (and therefore should kill Tomura). (Chap 309)
Gran Torino only has a brief moment in which he realizes he and Shimura made a mistake with Kotarou, because itâs Kotarou who implanted his own hate for Heroes in Tomura but thatâs it (Chap. 281).
In the end even Nana will encourage Midoriya to kill Tomura and note that if her original plan was to have him arrested, well, at that point that would always lead to Tomuraâs death as Tomura killed people and so he would be sentenced to death.
Long story short, there was never the intention to let Tomura live, there was only a minor discussion if Gran Torino should do the kill, justice should do the kill or Midoriya. And All might conveniently washes his hands clean of all this and let others deal with it. Not even his vestige will help Tomura, itâll be only Nanaâs vestige whoâll do so and, in the end, only to use his soul against AFO because Tomura was going to die anyway.
As for them believing AFO was dead⌠In Chap 57 Gran Torino speaks of him being back like of an obvious fact and while All Might complains he canât understand how he survived with such wounds, he doesnât really argue much. He doesnât tell him âhey, but we checked his vitals and he was dead!â to the point it was possible to assume they never retrieved his body, hence they couldnât really check his status and possibly this was the original plan and only afterward Horikoshi decided to show that they indeed retrieved his body and could tell he was dead but itâs not the first time the story makes poor decisions about its continuity.
Anyway yes, they washed their hands clear with Kotarou, they feel they did the right thing by respecting Shimuraâs decision and, as said before, this part already showed BNHA stance toward Villains. Itâs all their fault if they became Villains, there are no extenuating circumstances and society and Heroes are definitely not responsible for such things.
It didnât matter what happened to Tomura, if he was manipulated, blackmailed, threatened or whatever, he shouldnât have given up to evil, he should have chosen to die. After all we see it also with Aoyama. Tsukauchi says he feels sympathy for him but hey, the boy turned his back to decent society when AFO told him if he werenât to obey he would kill him and his parents! He should have totally left himself and his parents killed and stick up for society! Itâs all Aoyamaâs fault! (by the way the FAQ said Aoyama still turned himself in to the judicial system, which is why he had to leave U.A. high. Basically even though he risked his life he still did some juvenile detention)⌠and Himiko couldnât survive without going to jail because otherwise she wonât take responsibility so much better to kill her off.
BNHA isnât a story that has compassion. If youâre a Villain, youâre a Villain. Tomura was right in his speech, the system rejected them and the Heroes donât understand what this means, donât understand how could this push him into becoming a Villain (Chap 281). The scene in which Midoriya tells him he canât forgive him and Tomura tells him he canât forgive them is emblematic of thisâŚ. But then Horikoshi sided with the Heroes and just wanted Tomura to be wrong and so we got the ending we got.
So yeah, itâs sad and itâs horrible no one cared for Tenko or Kotarou but thatâs basically the logic behind the story. At the end society is a little more caring because it has understood a little better the concept of collective responsibility but thatâs it. Thereâs nothing done for whoâs a Villain, thereâs just prevention so that less Villains will be created but society DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for the harm it has done, there isnât a single reform in this direction, not even in the jail system which was declared by the manga to violate human rights. But hey, it was the party connected to Villains who claimed this so letâs ignore it.
I personally hate all this but I guess thereâs no helping. This is the world Horikoshi created, one that didnât really care about helping/reforming his Villains and where if someone does so much as be willing to hear them out (before theyâre sentenced to death) itâs viewed as a GIANT SIZE deal.
Thank you for your ask!

Hawks is 172 cm.
AFO is 225 cm.
AFO can have Hawks wrapped around his body and hidden in his coat as he walks around with no discomfort for either man. Hawks wouldn't like it, but AFO wouldn't mind having a backup twink hidden in his coat just in case he needs one.
Are we sure he wouldnât like it

He was supposed to wait for the right moment to jump out of the coat chestburster style, but it was too warm and cozy up here, and this plan was stupid anyway
