Super Sal Market, 17630 Ventura Blvd, Los Angeles (Encino), CA 91316
Super Sal has been open for years. I think I went years ago. Recently, Tel Aviv Authentic Kitchen opened inside Super Sal, making it the only market in the country with a Tel Aviv. They even sell Tel Aviv’s dips and salads in their cold case near the meat/fish department. Whoa. You can probably tell that I love Tel Aviv (casual Israeli café).
Super Sal also looks better (I think they remodeled?) than I remember. It’s a fairly large kosher market – not as large as Vons or Ralph’s but more like a Sprouts size. They claim to carry the largest variety of grocery items from Israel in the San Fernando Valley. There’s also a deli, meat/fish department (they have seasoned meat like shawarma), kosher sushi, homemade salads and their own line of baked goods. The thick Israel pitas I picked up were still warm from the oven. And there are baked goods from Sam’s and Angel Bakery, including pita, sangak, buns, Jerusalem bagels, lavash, and more.
You can also get spices, produce, ice cream, dairy, cheese, frozen food, canned food, pasta, snacks, nuts, wine, household essentials, toiletries, candles, etc. There’s a parking lot behind the store. I think Western Kosher has a better selection of hummus and baked goods but they do not have a Tel Aviv inside.
My picks:
Super Sal pita (5 for $5.99): Super thick, Israeli style
Classic hummus, 17 oz, $6.99 -
Super Sal hummus, $7.83 - thick & smooth, Israeli style, made in-house
Don’t forget to save room to eat at Tel Aviv.
5 out of 5 stars

has anyone come across any shareable graphics that show the type of produce (fruits/veggies) that israel exports?
#israeli fruit and vegetables are an official BDS target btw#the biggest palestinian org in norway (palestinakomiteen) have their own 'boycott israel' page#with graphics showing the type of fruit and vegetables from israel you'll find in norwegian grocery stores#would be nice to have something similar in english that gives a rough overview of the type of produce to be on the lookout for#even if your in the habit yourself of checking everything at the grocery store it's still handy to share with friends and family

Like I know this post has already been made 80000 times but truly it is so heartbreaking to see someone who otherwise is very conscientious about the material effects of their actions immediately jump to “what so you expect me to stay inside all the time?” whenever you suggest that maybe they should change some behavior to avoid the spread of a deadly pandemic.
#like just wear a mask and don’t go to superspreader events every other week jfk#like super happy to put extra effort boycotting from Israeli companies#but fuck the cripples at the grocery store amiright#so you’ll only have a backbone if all your friends are doing it huh?#like I’m not even saying “never step foot into a restuarant’ but maybe don’t#go to a crowded bar multiple times a week?

If you live in Gaza during the Israeli genocide, you are lucky to be able to buy a kilogram of meat for under $50. Right now prices have skyrocketed, particularly in the North—imagine trying to feed your family on these prices. Now try to imagine you have no income because an occupying settler army is committing genocide against you and your people. Right now, outside contributions are one of the most important ways, if not THE main way, to get direct help to individual families.
€5711/€20,000 RAISED - LAST DONATION 8 HOURS AGO
Please help my friend Ghada and her family as they try to survive this genocide. Get as many eyes on this campaign as possible to maximize outreach.
Please, please reblog! Tagging for reach:

[ID: A decorative orange ceramic plate with a pyramid of green herbs and sesame seeds, topped with deep red sumac and more sesame seeds. End ID]
زعتر فلسطيني / Za'tar falastinia (Palestinian spice blend)
Za'tar (زَعْتَر; also transliterated "za'atar," "zaatar" and "zatar") is the name of a family of culinary herbs; it is also the name of a group of spice blends made by mixing these herbs with varying amounts of olive oil, sumac, salt, roasted sesame seeds, and other spices. Palestinian versions of za'tar often include caraway, aniseed, and roasted wheat alongside generous portions of sumac and sesame seeds. The resulting blend is bold, zesty, and aromatic, with a hint of floral sourness from the sumac, and notes of licorice and anise.
Za'tar is considered by Palestinians to have particular national, political, and personal importance, and exists as a symbol of both Israeli oppression and Palestinian home-making and resistance. Its major components, olive oil and wild thyme, are targeted by the settler state in large part due to their importance to ecology, identity, and trade in Palestine—settlers burn and raze Palestinian farmers' olive trees by the thousands each year. A 1977 Israeli law forbade the harvesting of wild herbs within its claimed borders, with violators of the law risking fines and confiscation, injury, and even death from shootings or land mines; in 2006, za'tar was further restricted, such that even its possession in the West Bank was met with confiscation and fines.
Despite the blanket ban on harvesting wild herbs (none of which are endangered), Arabs are the only ones to be charged and fined for the crime. Samir Naamnih calls the ban an attempt to "starve us out," given that foraging is a major source of food for many Palestinians, and that picking and selling herbs is often the sole form of income for impoverished families. Meanwhile, Israeli farmers have domesticated and farmed za'tar on expropriated Palestinian land, selling it (both the herb and the spice mixture) back to Palestinians, and later marketing it abroad as an "Israeli" blend; they thus profit from the ban on wild harvesting of the herb. This farming model, as well as the double standard regarding harvesting, refer back to an idea that Arabs are a primitive people unfit to own the land, because they did not cultivate or develop it as the settlers did (i.e., did not attempt to recreate a European landscape or European models of agriculture); colonizing and settling the land are cast as justified, and even righteous.
The importance of the ban on foraging goes beyond the economic. Raya Ziada, founder of an acroecology nonprofit based in Ramallah, noted in 2019 that "taking away access to [wild herbs] doesn't just debilitate our economy and compromise what we eat. It's symbolic." Za'tar serves variously as a symbol of Palestinians' connection to the land and to nature; of Israeli colonial dispossession and theft; of the Palestinian home ("It’s a sign of a Palestinian home that has za’tar in it"); and of resistance to the colonial regime, as many Palestinians have continued to forage herbs such as za'tar and akkoub in the decades since the 1977 ban. Resistance to oppression will continue as long as there is oppression.
Palestine Action has called for bail fund donations to aid in their storming, occupying, shutting down, and dismantling of factories and offices owned by Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems. Also contact your representatives in the USA, UK, and Canada.
Ingredients:
Za'tar (Origanum syriacum), 250g once dried (about 4 cups packed)
250g (1 2/3 cup) sesame seeds
170g (3/4 cup) Levantine sumac berries, or ground sumac (Rhus coriaria)
100g (1/2 cup) wheat berries (optional)
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp aniseed (optional)
1/2 Tbsp caraway seeds (optional)
Levantine wild thyme (also known as Bible hyssop, Syrian oregano, and Lebanese oregano) may be purchased dried online. You may also be able to find some dried at a halal grocery store, where it will be labelled "زعتر" (za'tar) and "thym," "thyme," or "oregano." Check to make sure that what you're buying is just the herb and not the prepared mixture, which is also called "زعتر." Also ensure that what you're buying is not a product of Israel.
If you don't have access to Levantine thyme, Greek or Turkish oregano are good substitutes.
Wheat berries are the wheat kernel that is ground to produce flour. They may be available sold as "wheat berries" at a speciality health foods store. They may be omitted, or replaced with pre-ground whole wheat flour.
Instructions:
1. Harvest wild thyme and remove the stems from the leaves. Wash the leaves in a large bowl of water and pat dry; leave in a single layer in the sun for four days or so, until brittle. Skip this step if using pre-dried herbs.
2. Crumble leaves by rubbing them between the palms of your hands until they are very fine. Pass through a sieve or flour sifter into a large bowl, re-crumbling any leaves that are too coarse to get through.
Crumbling between the hands is an older method. You may also use a blender or food processor to grind the leaves.
3. Mix the sifted thyme with a drizzle of olive oil and work it between your hands until incorporated.
4. Briefly toast sumac berries, caraway seeds, and aniseed in a dry skillet over medium heat, then grind them to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle or a spice mill.
5. Toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly, until deeply golden brown.
6. (Optional) In a dry skillet on medium-low, toast wheat berries, stirring constantly, until they are deeply golden brown. Grind to a fine powder in a spice mill. If using ground flour, toast on low, stirring constantly, until browned.
Some people in the Levant bring their wheat to a local mill to be ground after toasting, as it produces a finer and more consistent texture.
7. Mix all ingredients together and work between your hands to incorporate.
Store za'tar in an airtight jar at room temperature. Mix with olive oil and use as a dipping sauce with bread.

Sign the Petition! Tell Trader Joes what we want!
Some anti-Israel "activists" are trying to pressure Trader Joe's to stop carrying Israeli products. As far as I can tell, they don't even carry many products made in Israel, so this seems very performative to me. You can always just not buy Israeli products when you shop, if you object to them, of course.
Historically and currently, this type of performative anti-Israel protest often comes hand-in-hand with hostility toward visible Jews and Israelis. In the past, these protests have frequently been followed by pressure to stop carrying kosher food at all.
Trader Joe's is the only grocery store to carry kosher food in some US communities and the only one to carry kosher meat in even more US cities. We need Trader Joe's all throughout USA to remain safe and welcoming for Jews and Israelis. Please sign the petition to keep the current Israeli products at Trader Joe's, and keep them a safe place for Jews and Israelis.
If these bigoted "activists" succeed, it could open the door for the removal of all kosher foods from Trader Joe's, even ones not made in Israel, and then those communities that rely on Trader Joe's will be left without a place to get kosher foods.
Tagging a few bigger name Jumblr bogs for visibility.

So I've been seeing this antisemitic conspiracy theory (I think is the best way to classify it) that grocery stores are lying about produce being from Israel to get around boycotts and will say that said produce is from another country instead.
Whether to a grain of truth to that any grocery stores might doing this I don't know, but what I do know is the how this thing has been taken and used is in tradition of leftist style antisemitic conspiracy theories.
In those the style is always Jews are deeply predatory of ethnic and racial minorities, impoverished and low income communities, queer communities, and disabled people which is how this secret hiding of Israeli produce thing has been going.
The rhetoric surrounding it has been very this going on only in grocery stores that "PoC and poor people use" as I saw written in once such place.
I just wanted to let people know to beware of this.

What did Dr. Ambedkar say? ‘Mr. Gandhi says quite different things in English and Gujarati’—-if you are willing to understand anything you’d need to understand that about Israeli discourse and global discourse—-but oh! It’s hard for some people to understand this simple fact in the US and not think ‘I *knew* it! Those people at the grocery store *were* laughing at me in their language!’

Just a few pieces of solidarity news reported by Kuffiya since the beginning of March:
A court in London ordered UK Parliament Member Michelle Donelan to apologize and pay financial compensation to academics she accused of “extremism” for their pro-Palestine positions.
Google fired an employee who staged a protest against the chief of Google Israel during a company-sponsored Israeli tech event, accusing the company of complicity in Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.
“Stop killing Gaza." Pro-Palestine protesters held a rally in front of Japan's parliament in support of Gaza.
Pro-Palestinian students held a die-in at the Faculty of Law University of Windsor in protest against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.
"While we watch the Oscars, Israel's genocide in Gaza continues." A projection in Columbus Circle was seen by Academy members at the official New York City Oscars watch party at the Mandarin Oriental.
Boston activists shut down the Chase Bank branch, an Elbit shareholder, in commemoration of the over 30,000 Palestinians who were murdered by Israel in Gaza.
"Shame on you!" Tom Perez, a senior adviser to President Joe Biden, was rebuked at a grocery store regarding his administration's backing of the ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza.

Goyim are wearing on my last nerve. I get the Mr. Rogers "look for the helpers" quote thrown at me regularly, people go "oh just don't watch/read/listen to them" when I mention someone being antisemitic, and act as if Jewish people who are upset are at fault for looking at something we knew would make us upset. And that's just not how this works.
I have never gone out of my way to look at something that makes me upset once in my entire life. I block people and stop using sites that upset me. I installed a Firefox extension to help filter content. I unsubscribed from every YouTuber that I used to watch who was antisemitic, installed an add-on to make them never come up in my feed, and installed an add-on to hide comments underneath videos from me. I've had to drop all my friends. I don't do anything to be visibly Jewish. I avoid any political content anywhere I see it. I have so, so many words filtered on multiple sites.
And the stuff that's allegedly my responsibility to just not watch/read/etc finds me anyway.
Try to watch YouTube? Antisemitism. Try to look at some fanart? Antisemitism. Watch the news? There it is. Searching for a D&D group? It pops up yet again. Look for some Animal Crossing design codes? Once more, with feeling. Walk to the dining hall from my dorm? Right there, in my face, yelling full volume. Go to class? The professors will make it a routine feature of lectures. Walk to the grocery store and back to get food so you can avoid the encampment? The cashiers are chatting about (((the Jews))). Search for something on Etsy for your mom's birthday? It's in the search results. Open up a website you go to for recipes because you want to cook until you feel less stressed? "Top 10 Recipes Stolen By Israelis". Buy a book at the used bookstore to read to take your mind off of things? An entire display is all anti-Israel books, right there to greet you when you walk in. Go to the thrift store to donate things you made or repaired? Your reward for this good deed is a sign in the window with the 'from the mountains to the sea' quote. Go home for a weekend to hang out with your family and naively think in a little town you wouldn't encounter antisemitism? Right-wing people drunk on conspiracy theories talk about their baseless beliefs right on the street where you can hear it through the windows.
There's this thing in psychology called DARVO. Deny, attack, reverse victim and offender. And it perfectly sums up the "nice" goyim's responses. The world isn't the offender, it's you. You're not being hurt, you're the one weighing everyone down with their negativity. They never address the root issue, that being that antisemitism is rampant, they just divert their attention onto something else, something pleasant to think about.
The problem with DARVO, like other abuser tactics, is that if you use it too often, it stops being effective. 11 months in, it's over the threshold. I am no longer going to feel guilty for noticing things are messed up.
If you don't want me to notice it, then change it. The easiest way to get people to stop complaining about the state of the world is to make it even marginally less bad, just enough we can convince ourselves there's hope for the future. But goyim can't do that, because that would take effort and involve admitting they have maybe done a single thing wrong in their lives. And their whole self-confidence rests upon the lie that is abdicating themselves from responsibility for their own actions.
I used to be angry at them. Now I'm annoyed at myself for ever expecting better. Genuinely, I do not know why I ever thought they were capable of being any better than they are now. There was nothing going on to prove to me that they had the capacity to be decent to other people when it wouldn't get them public praise, and most goyim are motivated entirely by extrinsic validation from their peers.
There is no anger left. There's just disappointment. And it's not even disappointment in them, because this is the best that they can do.

🇵🇸 From Friends of Al-Aqsa (FOA):
This Ramadan make sure you’re not breaking your fast with the taste of apartheid. All you need to do is check the label to avoid buying dates from apartheid Israel. This includes dates labelled from Israel, the West Bank and the Jordan Valley or if the country of origin is not shown. Ramadan is a time of reflection and self-improvement. During this month we are more conscious of our actions and how they affect others. Israel is the world’s largest producer of Medjoul dates. Let's be conscious of not buying dates that support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and apartheid regime. * Major UK supermarkets like ASDA, Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose all sell dates from apartheid Israel as well as local grocery stores * The UK is the second-biggest importer of Israeli dates in Europe 50% of Israeli dates are exported to Europe, where the UK, Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy import huge quantities of the dried fruit. In 2020 the UK imported over 3000 tonnes of dates from Israel, worth roughly 7.5 million pounds. There are two peaks of date consumption in Europe. One is during the month of Ramadan and the other is during New Year’s Eve and Christmas. Boycotting Israeli dates in Ramadan is a concerted community effort that can show we are not powerless. It would be brilliant to see all Israeli dates still left on shelves across the UK and Europe at the end of the blessed month. This would reflect our strength as a community to stand together with a very important message: We will not support the oppression of Palestinians and we will not be complicit in Israeli apartheid. So, this Ramadan #CheckTheLabel and boycott Israeli dates.
With Ramadan approaching, please consider sharing!
If you're in the UK, they also have leaflets available for order on their webpage. These tie into their upcoming campaign #CheckTheLabel, with a national day of action on the 16th of February.
Again, check their webpage for more info.

I challenge every one of you, What can you do to fight against the genocide? Stop thinking about what *can't* you do, I want to know what CAN you do? I've gotten stickers and have been using my white privilege to post them around in broad daylight. I managed to get one on a order kiosk IN the Mcdonalds at a huge truck stop. (It actually used to be the world's largest McDonalds). I even got one on the shelves in front of a bunch of Israeli products at a grocery store. Honestly, I've been shocked how easy it's been. So what can you do? This one thing I'm doing is so fucking tiny, but it's all I got right now. Do you have the ability to organize? Can you stage a walkout? Can you do better with me in a sticker bomb campaign? What happens if all the things we CAN do, add up? All these tiny drops of water turn into a storm? I challenge you.

If I see one more post about "trump almost getting assassinated means its the end of the world he's guaranteed to win the election now" I'm going to scream.
First of all, stop doomposting. Get your head out of that mindset, and if you can't get out of that mindset, not filling your dash with doom will genuinely help.
Second of all, Trump was already almost guaranteed to win. If you're anywhere that is not on Tumblr, Biden's polling numbers are atrocious for individual states as well as nation-wide.
~60% of Americans disapprove of Biden.
~67% of Americans want Biden to step down and let another candidate run.
Instead of spending your time crying about how everyone needs to
"Vote for Biden, because even though he's actively commiting genocide right now, at least he promises that he will protect abortion rights and trans rights if he's elected into power for another four years!"
aka
"Vote for Hitler, because while he may not like other people, at least he promises to not take away the rights of Germans here in our country!"
Instead of supporting a genocide (voting for Biden, and trying to convince people to vote for him which is the opposite of beating a dead horse) and thinking the world is going to end if Trump gets elected, you should be
1) Research your other candidate options for November. It takes a single google search of "Presidential election candidates" and it'll come up with countless polls and articles about who all of the independent and third party candidates are.
2) Organizing within your local community, or at the very least, just. Get out there and get to know people. Get to know your neighbors, your cashiers at the local grocery store, join a local gardening Facebook group and start a small food garden, in the ground or in containers. Make some community connections, so if shit hits the fan, you have a local support network, and can help each other.
3) Listen to Palestinians. Listen to Indigenous people. Listen to Black activists. Listen to the marginalized groups who have been begging for years, decades, for people to see that there is no "Lesser Evil" if the side wearing blue hat continues to commit genocide, murders minorities, puts kids in cages, continues to put unlawful embargos on entire nations, and continues to commit war crimes and attempt to topple the governments of other nations.
Project 2025 has been the Republican plan for when they get elected for the last 40 years, they just so happen to have a fancy PDF to fear monger with this year.
The entire world is not going to end if Donald Trump gets elected, and if you truly do think it is, instead of attempting to convince people to vote for a man committing genocide that more than half the country disapproves of, how about you spend your energy on convincing BIDEN to halt all military aid to Israel and to use the troops HE stationed in Israel to actually give aid and prevent more war crimes?
Oh wait. He can't do that, he's already committed so many war crimes. they already dressed up as aid workers and slaughtered 300 innocent people for the "sake" of 2 hostages that Israel has refused all actual negotiations to return them, because Israel literally doesn't care about hostages, it just wants all of Gaza gone and under Israeli control.
You don't fucking bomb the place you think hostages are in, you don't go around slaughtering innocent people if you care about hostages, including slaughtering your own people you're supposedly there to rescue.
Biden literally said that if there were no Israel, America would have to invent its own. His opinion has not changed one bit, and you can see it every time he and his group call college students protesting genocide "outside actors", when he further militarizes the police so they can shoot, beat, and maim peaceful protestors. When he claims to have seen photographs of beheaded babies that don't exist and continues to spout claims long -debunked about October 7th.
"violence does not belong in our politics, but only when it doesn't involve me sadistically supporting crimes against humanity and genocide"
Anyways this post is long and rambling.
Tldr: stop acting like its the end of the world if Trump gets elected. Instead of screaming people need to vote for Genocide Joe, focus your attention on getting him to step down so another candidate can take his place in August. Look up third party candidates, and organize in your local community.
And, don't forget your daily clicks!

the thing about “secret israeli restaurants” is americans are generally more positive to israelis than arabs so a vague restaurant is more likely to be hiding arab origins than israeli
pretty sure the og tweet poster was Canadian but yeahhhhh I read it and blinked about the antisemitism but I also read it and blinked about the fact that like bro… are you…. are you that fucking unaware about the extent of anti-Arab and anti-middle eastern racism in the us&canada? Are you that fucking obtuse? Oh my god. It literally doesn’t fucking matter what “origins” the restaurants are “hinting at” but I couldn’t fucking process how a white Canadian would think that “people who simply describe themselves/their business establishment as “middle eastern” or “Mediterranean” are inherently sketchy” is in any way a productive idea to have for literally anyone
a) a restaurant/establishment describing themselves as “Mediterranean” or “middle eastern” would be inherently sketchy and suspicious (as loaded as “middle eastern” itself is, “Mediterranean” can often be taken more positively in the west and anglophone/francophone worlds, after all nutritionists have been going on about the “Mediterranean diet) for a while) but also
B) that those people would inherently be (in his opinion) Zionists and/or Israelis
also feel this person has big “have never interacted with middle eastern person in my life” because as much as xenophobia and various other issues pushes people to go for either the “Mediterranean/middle eastern” marker, there’s plenty of other reasons why establishments go for those identifiers like.
1) a lottttt of Mediterranean diaspora families, due to immigration and intermarriage, really are franco-lebanese, or palestinain-Greek, or Ashkenazi Jewish and Algerian, or Moroccan Spaniards, or something like that, (check the Arabs, Jews, and Italians of the greater nyc area lol) and
2) in diasporic situations one (1) grocery store or deli often services OR competes with others for a broader market share, I’ve lived places where I regularly shopped at a Turkish/greek/arab grocery store (Labelled itself “Mediterranean”) and a Persian/armenian/arab grocery store (Labelled itself “middle eastern groceries”) because it would be dishonest to say that these grocery stores are for any one “nationality!” Walk into many a Mediterranean or middle eastern grocery store or deli and you’ll see Turkish products from Germany, maghrebi Jewish products from France, halal versions of jamón and chorizo, and labneh from lebanon next to Greek and Persian yogurt. My favorite local market once had an entire NOT HALAL!!!!! Fridge Labelled in three languages to store the frozen pork products for the Greek and Romanian markets next to the general halal cheese boreks.
I’m not saying this is the case everywhere or like it’s all peachy perfect in diaspora but this just comes across as someone who has a lot of political Ideas about Mediterranean & middle eastern people but haven’t met them in real life. Also it’s a love letter to the diaspora grocery store with 6+ ethnicities inside them and an entire wall of tomato pastes. If there’s one in your city you should patronize them! (Also note the fantastic phenomenon of the “Black Sea” grocery, the mass halal Mart, and the particular greater London “Indian Bangladeshi Sri Lankan Persian Pakistani polish” mart
Also lol gonna have to lol at the “I’m so angry these diaspora Israelis would hide their nationality in order to avoid harassment because I want to boycott and harass them”
#That post#Also yeah that post was so stupid but it could get people killed#So idk#Racism#it’s so. I want to bang my fucking head into the wall
