do you have any particular ludinus headcanons that have never come up in meta before but youre thinkin about them?

Oh of course! I think about this insane old man all day every day so I have lots of headcanons 😂 and some very cracky headcanons that go with my very non canon Ludigoth ship. Here’s a few:

1. Ludinus is super good at growing plants. Like not just because of elf lore and stereotypes. But because of that one theory Matt gave us of Molaesmyr happening because of experiments on making arcane plants and Lud’s interest in A2 with all the trees. And his interest in druidic magic! I like to think his hobby after god killing is in plant research which would lead to him being really good at gardening and growing.

2. Even though perhaps he wears his hair long due to harness neck weakness shenanigans, I think he prefers it long. If he were back in the Age of Arcanum, I think he would probably wear his hair in certain fashions ala Patia’s cool hair stuff. He would def fuck with Thranduil eqsue crowns. (Ludigoth side hc: Ira loves to play and braid it, Ludinus pretends to hate it but wears the braid for like a week after the fey fucks off to who knows where)

3. Because of how much this old ass elf self isolates but clearly craves someone to understand him, if you give him the chance, he will fucking monologue and talk about whatever is on his mind for hours. Like if you were a student at Soltryce and you asked him about arcana, he would be delighted to explain. You would get stuck in a 3 hour lecture that eventually shifted to his own theories and you just wanted help on homework. Man is a yapper. (Check out his four sendings for one message, Ludinus is worse than Jester)

4. Speaking of, he’s definitely gotten tea with Jester before. Her saying “oh but he’s so sweet” in the M9 reunion really has me believing she messaged him one time just to do it and he said okay to try and get info on Beau and Caleb and then ended up being bamboozled by Jester the whole time. He goes home with an over priced time share on Rumblecusp and an invite to the Lavish Chateau for a free show. He does not remember what they talked about.

5. The neck itch is just the first hint that he needs to feed again. If left ignored, there are more obvious symptoms, like his teeth feeling too big for his mouth, more sharp and canine like, heightened sense of smell and aversion to the smell of things he normally would enjoy. Restlessness and the feeling of his arcana burning through his veins, like something else is trying to break free. Once and only once has he let it go far enough to where he awoke in the Feywilds, covered in blood and gore. He doesn’t remember how he got there, nor what he consumed but it was the first and only time he’s let his hunger consume him.

helloooooo 😊 Connie's route is definitely a little tumultuous lol. keep in mind that Connie doesn't know Io that well yet and really just hates Val, so Io kind of gets the short end of the stick by association. Connie won't be mean forever, you just have to win them over first

who Connie has feelings for fully depends on your choices, since I don't feel like writing unrequited stuff 😅 If you pick just Ira or just Connie, then the events of chapter 4 are just unserious flirting, no real feelings involved. if you pick the poly route OR neither of them, then it's genuine.

(Same goes for Val/Klaus, the only difference being that Val and Klaus have been together in the past)

but also, Val and Constantine's routes are going to feel very different, since Val is a naturally affectionate person and Connie... isn't

This year I set myself a goal to complete FIFTY books, and keep a record of what I read including what I thought about/learned from each book in terms of writing techniques, story structure, or just wrt developing a better idea of my own writing goals and tastes. I demolished this goal before June, which I am extremely pleased about, and I am still in the process of demolishing this goal, having completed another three books since I last updated this list a week or two ago!

The aim of this exercise was the following:

Re-establish reading habit, and improve attention span.

Re-Learn how to write down my thoughts about books, even if they are uncritical observations, opinions, or ideas inspired by what I'm reading.

Cover as much ground as possible as fast as possible, over a wide range of topics and genres (audiobooks and written books both count!)

Book quality was not a factor I considered when picking what to read - if it fell into my lap I read it and wrote down my thoughts, and let me tell you I definitely read some sub-par books in 2023. I read some really great ones too! But when one is not picky you kinda get what you get, and I think next year I might be a bit more discerning/tactical in my approach. I also did NOT go to tik tok for book recs because I don't believe in tik tok the same way some people don't believe in the spherical earth. I picked books based on word of mouth, recommendations spoon fed to me by via the audible algorithm (still evil, but the devil one knows and all that), and via on-the-ground perusal of book shops and stacks and the 'recently returned' feed on the libby app. Despite this, I know some booktok faves managed to find their way onto my list. I am working very hard not to acknowledge this, please don't draw undue attention to it 😂

Speaking of libby, my hold list also grew astronomically this year. My poor local library is limited, and I have been waiting for a few books I really want for MONTHS (riyria revelations v1, the colour of magic, the king in yellow...). I was able to borrow as many cosy murder mysteries as I wanted, though, because small town libraries seem to have 10000000 of those available per patron per anum. Unfortunately, I have discovered I am neutral at best about this genre. 😔

The best books I read this year across all genres and in no particular order were as follows:

The southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires - Grady Hendrix: this appealed deeply to my love of and familiarity with horror movies of the 80s-2010s. It had an innovative and articulate approach to themes like powerlessness, rage, desperation, boredom, inequity, and guilt - at least compared to everything else i read this year. I noted paralells between this and Ira levins stepford wives, much of Stephen kings horrific americana, plus some other books and movies which I alluded to in my notes but for some reason I didn't write down (foolish 😓). Some big TWs would apply for this one, however.

The day of the triffids - John Wyndham: genuinely I do not know how I enjoyed this so much. I had no business enjoying this so much. Despite being from 1951, parts of this felt very contemporary in style and concept, tho sometimes dubious ideas about humanity or society would appear in the text as if they were a natural fact. Nevertheless, I went out and read another Wyndham book straight after, because there was also some beautiful prose in this, and it's always interesting to personally experience the origin of so many tropes which are like. Ubiquitous now.

Uglies series - Scott Westerfield: another unexpected winner. I never read these books as a teen and I consider that a good thing because they would have made my little adolescent brain crazy. These books are crammed with paraphernalia which would have been the coolest shit to a 13 year old me, all masterfully concealing themes about beauty and social hierarchy and state surveillance in a way that seems exponentially more relevant now than it did nearly 20 years ago. I was so impressed with these books honestly, and the way this author used language was something else. I didn't even notice what was going on until it was pointed out by the story, having simply resigned myself to reading an averagely written book full of weird dialect quirks just because it was pitched at a teen reader. I was way wrong, and ive never seen such an elegant example of style justified by the narrative itself. I really wish I could do something that skillfull in my own work!

Braiding sweetgrass - Robin wall Kimmerer: gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. a sensory joy. Seriously beautiful, and surprisingly emotionally intense. I had to read this in short bursts because it made me feel too much about trees.

Boy Parts - Eliza Clark: this one made me feel things I haven't figured out yet. Unlike everything else ive ever read, I could have believed that I wrote this, and that recognition of the self was horrifying because there wasn't a moment in the story i didnt struggle to reconcile revulsion with the exquisite beauty of it all. Easily the scariest book of the year, Easily the one i have thought about the most, Easily the biggest TW of my 2023 recommendations. I'm gonna be defining my own work against this for at least the next six months, or until I have matched it in calibre/distanced myself from it so completely that I am forced to recreate myself and my art anew.

In 2024, I plan to narrow my scope more and focus back on horror, fantasy, and non-fiction. Based on how good I was in 23, I'm going to aim for 65 books in 2024!!!

The only thing im not happy about this is why is Mingyu friends with jk lmaaoooooo because he seems like a good guy and if im oc (im not bummer 😣) i’d totally tap that 🍑 🤭

Ooh an interesting question indeed! I admittedly am not super caught up on all the lore, so feel free to correct me if I got something wrong or ask me about something I missed! (And for anyone who wants to read about Earth-63, check this tag, it has all the posts!). The rest of my thoughts are below the cut:

Your Earth-63 is gender-swapped, so I imagine Morgan would have quite a confusing time trying to find someone who looks familiar 😂 though at least Barbie’s face claim on E63 is Emily Bett Rickards, E1’s Felicity, so that would be some whiplash for her, but also comforting in its familiarity—she and E1 Felicity aren’t close friends, but they are friendly with each other, so in a sense, Barbie would be the only real familiar person to Morgan…both in being a female version of her brother, and in looking like Felicity (she even thinks with a laugh that Felicity being the “girl version of Barry” is hilariously literal now)

She’d be so happy that this Earth’s version of Iris (Ira) got to be a police officer like E1 Iris wanted. Morgan would also be a little surprised at seeing Westhallen together as a throuple, but she’s happy for them (she wasn’t exactly tuned in to the romance drama going on in s1 😂 she didn’t much care other than wanting them to be happy (and Barry to be honest with Iris), in whatever way that played out. Not her circus, not her monkeys). The three of them work well together…and it makes her wonder if Westhallen on her Earth could’ve been a reality if things had been different 🥺

She’d hit it off well with Cisca and Caelen too—other than them being genderswapped, they’re still so similar to the versions she knew (same for Ira, Eden, and Barbie ofc). She might be part of Team Flash for a while…or at least, she’d be their friend.

Her doppelgänger would surprise her more than anyone—Jess Wells…not genderswapped, estranged from her mother. The way Jess describes Dr. Wells would probably make her sound like E1 Carla Tannhauser, given that they’re estranged...and though Morgan’s never had the displeasure of meeting E1 Caitlin’s mom, she knows enough to hate the woman on principle. So this fuels her hatred of this Earth’s Dr. Wells

She wouldn’t trust this Earth’s version of Dr. Wells—Harriet Wells, also genderswapped, and Morgan is convinced she’s somehow evil (plus, as mentioned prior, Jess would likely describe her in such a way that she sounds like a neglectful mother to Morgan). I believe on Earth-63, she’s actually herself and not Eoland, so Morgan’s suspicions would ofc be unfounded. Which might put her friendships with the others in jeopardy…

If Eoland or Savitar played their cards right, they’d be able to trick Morgan for any purpose 👀 more specifically, if she’s cast out from the Team and needs a friendly, sympathetic ear…Savitar would be more suited for that purpose, since she has enough of Barbie’s memories to forge a personal connection with Morgan. Though both would have to work on their bedside manner first—both are better at being menacing, especially Eoland, since she wouldn’t have had practice manipulating everyone for 15 years like E1’s Eobard.

I'd like it to be a series of fast cuts in between the events of the accident and the books first scene, so, something like:

A puddle in a dirt covered alleyway, nigh time, it's raining. Someone runs barefoot, and we hear the sounds of chasing.

Cut to the Iria, beating, and a group of imitators talking indistinguishably. Some have strange instruments in their hands.

Iria climbing onto a rooftop, still running, clutching something in her hand.

Cut back to the Iria, closer to the imitators and in particular the khadae, approaching to take a chunk of the rock off, the light still beating.

Back to Ira, slipping and falling to the street. The creation in her hand slips away. She looks up from the floor to it, reaches out to her and stumbles to keep running, her clothes wet and now filthy with dirt and mud. As she turns, she finds herself with no exit. She looks around, then—

The Iria shining brightly as it explodes, the kahade and the imitators around him thrown around, chunks of the rock they'd taken out scattered on the floor.

Ira looks at the beating imitations lightning the main street, then takes a sharp rock out of her pocket and cuts her hand, melting the imitations, and taking cover in the dark. She looks up, to the black banners soaked in rain.

KHOC WEEK 2024 Day 2 - Past

the things for my OCs are now the only ones I do, so, off with the annual @khoc-week appointment.😂

The protagonist of this post should have been Aspis, my little Anguis kid, but since Aspis is deeply connected to another character, it's probably better that I start with some headcanons I have about the Foretellers. Between those and the designs, at this point they feel a bit like OCs too. even tried to do a Nomura-esque version for the occasion.

The assumption is that the Foretellers were one of the many attempts on the chessboard of the Master of Masters to face the Darkness. He gathered under his protection a group of lonely and desperate kids, with a tormented past, acting in the grey area more than out of affection. He bet on them. He sought out children who possessed specific flaws of distinct deadly sins, trained them, and made them his apprentices on a journey designed to make them overcome their "sin" and use it as a virtue that will be essential to their future "roles." For example…

Gula, who lived on the streets as a feral child, has known hunger, and food is also how MoM attracted him. Gula suffered from bulimia and nervous hunger for years, before managing to direct his anxiety towards logic and study, becoming an analytical boy "hungry" for knowledge.

Ava, sold away by her once rich family fell in disgrace, wanted EVERYTHING back. everything she had lost, or that she wanted but could no longer afford. Mom was the one who has bought her, she's too young to understand the extent of the family tragedy. that's why she later was the perfect one for the task of choosing any wielder she desires or attracts her eye, without limits, collecting the Dandelion.

Aced has always used his muscles to win easily, alone, without effort and without ever really try to improving himself, until carelessness cost him his tribe and an eye… he is now a loyal follower and uses his strength to defend the group, the arm of the law under Ira.

Ira, balances strength in combat and intelligence, which are also the qualities of his union. stubborn and rebellious, as an angry teenager he ran away from home, losing his path. He was the first one found by Mom, and he owes him his life. He learned to control his anger because of him, obtaining determination, willpower and the courage that made him choose as Leader.

Luxu carried the burden of being an unwanted child, the result of an affair, from an early age he felt cursed by that because of a big birthmark on one eye that vaguely resembles an X. shy, insecure and reserved, people pleaser, until life with his apprentice companions brought out his mischievous and creative personality. His being a people pleaser made him incredibly attentive to the behavior of the people around him and the ideal candidate to infiltrate among people and live their lives, one after the other.

Finally, Invi.

like all the other foretellers, her name is more of a title. Her real name is Nivea, and she was isolated from her village because white hair was considered a bad omen. The resentment of having to survive alone, with a little brother to support, he too with lighter hair than was welcome, soon turned into Envy, gnawing at her insides every time Nivea stopped to observe the normality of other families, lurking and hating everyone but her brother Aspis.

MoM saved both, proposing a deal to Nivea: he would take care of them, they would have a roof over their heads, education, a future, as long as she studied under him.

With no other real choice, the children accept out of desperation.

Nivea and Aspis initially lived together, but as they grow older she is forced to uphold her end of the bargain, spending more and more time at the clocktower. Aspis and Nivea's relationship is ruined irreparably, as Invi begins to enjoy her studies and the company of her peers, spending less and less time with her brother "for a higher purpose".

On the other hand, Aspis, who has always remained silent about a subtle hostility from the inhabitants of Daybreak Town due to his bad temper and sharp tongue, is left almost alone. His only wish was not to be a burden to his sister, who therefore always believed everything was fine and let him go without regrets. Aspis is full of resentment towards Mom, blaming him for brainwashing his sister, now obsessed by Light and darkness, when she clearly only wanted a better life for them.

Aspis and Invi do not hate each other, but the lack of communication makes it difficult to make peace, they will miss their chance before the War.

Aspis eventually made some friends along the way, that made his loneliness bearable. he is in a sort of trio with Lupe and Leonna, and a little girl who for some reason adores him like a big brother, Velcia (she's @alchemist-of-thebes 's oc). he'll never admit it, but he would die for her.😂
