Turning 2023 makeup trends into one makeup look .
2023 make up trend predictions For today's blog, I will be looking at 2023 trend predictions. Thanks to classmate Suzie, who sent all the class an article about 2023 trend predictions written by Ipsy. I now have some idea of the upcoming trends this year. For those who don't know, Ipsy is a website that sells monthly glam bags. Ipsy scoured the social media of top makeup artists to find different predictions. They also talked to Nick Lujan and Jamie Greenberg, both of them being celebrity makeup artists .
Tumblr media

After reading the article and looking at the different predictions they made. I have decided to choose 2 of my favourite looks . I have also found another makeup prediction after scrolling through Instagram. This prediction was made by Dazed magazine. They predicted that dark mermaid/siren makeup would become a craze. One of Ipsy's trend predictions was bold blue eyes. They suggested starting off with mascara because blue is an intimidating colour. If you're not confident wearing such a bold colour then blue mascara is a subtle and easy way to embrace the trend. The more confident you feel, the more eye shadow you can add. I chose this trend because I feel like it works well with the other trends i ended up choosing .
Tumblr media
Makeup by Gabriel Almodovar Figure 3
The Glazed forehead highlight is an eye-catching glowing look. Glazed skin fits perfectly with all the other dewy skin trends like glass skin & cloud skin . It's the complete opposite of the overly dry matte foundation of the 2010s.

Makeup by Cat Parnel
Figure 4
Tumblr media
This is the dark mermaid/siren makeup look Dazed used to on their Instagram and in their prediction. Figure 5 All 3 of these looks work together to create this wet mermaid appearance. In this video, you can see the end results of me combining these free looks. I feel like the blue eyes and the glazed skin compliment each other. I look like a mermaid who's just come out of the ocean. To commit to the look, I wet my hair and put on a sparkly blue top to elevate the look. I think this look fits well with the fun and experimental looks people have been doing ever since the 1st lock down in 2020. I feel like beauty and makeup trends are going to keep going down this exuberant and bold style people have been drawn to the past few years.
When doing the research and creating this look on myself, I realised that beauty is steering away from this heavily contoured, picture-perfect Instagram look. While contemporary beauty trends are becoming more fun, expressive, artistic & imperfect. Which reflects the values of the younger generation. From what I've seen, they appreciate authenticity, uniqueness, and creativity. I feel like their values are something that any trendsetters and innovators need to take into consideration.
That's it for now see you in the next post and have fun scrolling ;-)

My glam bag arrived! I switched to Boxycharm because IPSY didn’t have good customer service and wouldn’t let me buy stuff . I was like please take my money. But I’m glad I canceled it because this month I’m getting BOXYCHARM! It’s so much nicer and way more helpful! And the questionnaire it way more extensive so they get a better idea of what you want in your box. The only down side is they don’t give you a cute bag each time but it’s basically the better version of IPSY . I will miss those bags though...
Also carful with cheap sheet masks. These Jayjung ones where good but I got a 1$ one from target and it literally ripped off a small piece of my face! I hope it doesn’t scar :/ .
Can’t wait to post about my boxycharm! Theses subscriptions are literally the cheapest way I get makeup and skincare. The skincare lasts me 2 months and each item is so luxurious at only 35$ a month! I end up saving money on all natural skincare while also creating new routines each month . I do rebuy items I love like Cake anti frizz cream, Jayjun masks, Herbivore CBD Oil, skinwarrior anti pollution repair cream, and TonyMoly Moisture Boost Gel Cleanser.
So basically if you get one you’ll save a ton on beauty products and get to try new things as well as save a ton on makeup . I literally have 7 eyeliners . My fav is by Skone. It doesn’t dry out as fast as KVD (I hate her eyeliner) and tarte( pretty decent eyeliner dries out in 1 month though)

Ipsy April 2017 Review
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! Welcome to my review for April 2017's review of my Ipsy glam bag. The last few months was a busy time for me so I do have a backlog of things that will be coming up shortly. I can't wait to share everything with you. If you're interested in seeing my thoughts on the items I received in this glam bag, please keep reading.
The items I received this month were the Adesse Cupuacu Butter Lip Balm, the Seychelles hand cream, Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Glow highlighter and eyeshadow, a Lisa Frank angled face brush, and a Colourpop eye pencil in the shade Show Me.
The first thing I'll get out of the way is the most disappointing item to me, which is the teeny tiny little Elizabeth Mott highlighting eyeshadow. It's easy enough to fit in a zpalette but it's so small and I really feel like it didn't have much pigment even against my super fair skin. I think the formula could be a lot better.
The second item I had mixed feelings about was the Colourpop eye pencil in the shade Show Me. I was super excited about getting this in my bag, only having made my first order from Colourpop about two weeks prior to receiving this bag, but I feel like I always receive browns. I really wish Ipsy would include more adventurous and interesting colours as an option for subscribers, although I can also understand that these types of colours are more universally appealing. I did enjoy the formula and found it super smooth and creamy and was pleased with the long-lasting formula even put up against my watery eyes. Not too glittery but does have a nice amount and isn't chunky.
As a 90s baby, even being darkly inclined I can totally appreciate this Lisa Frank x Glamour Dolls makeup brush. It's super soft and super cute and great for lightly applying blush or contour. I also found use for it sweeping away fall out from crumbly eyeshadows. An excellent display piece as well.
I'm rarely disappointed by receiving any kind of lip product in subscription bags, and this for sure was a treat. I have heard of some people not enjoying the fragrance of this product, but to me it smells quite like root beer flavoured candy. It has a shimmery outer layer that imparts a bit of colour and shimmer, and a moisturizing inner core. Did somewhat create a bit of a gummy texture on the inner corners of my lips if reapplied too frequently but I am a freak for well-moisturized lips and would rather be on the side of over-application because my skin is quite sensitive.
Lastly the Seychelles hand cream. It has an amber and bergamot scent. I'm not a huge fan of bergamot in most cases but I do like it here, as it is subtle and mostly unnoticed in the presence of amber. It's fairly thin in consistency and soaks in quickly, leaving no oily residue on the hands. Despite disappearing quickly into the skin, it is more long-lasting than some other creams I have tried from the drugstore but not as good as something with a high plant-butter content like L'Occitane shea butter hand cream. Nice enough to keep in my bag and use up.
Overall I felt this bag was decent, but not my best. There were only two items I was super excited about and the others felt a bit mediocre, but the bag itself was super cute. I hope next month's bag is much more exciting and can't wait to try more things. Thank you for reading, and I would love to hear your thoughts if you received any of the same products. See you next post. ^__^

Ipsy’s new subscription delivers full-size beauty products, not samples
Ipsy, the beauty box subscription service and e-commerce site founded in 2011 by YouTube creator Michelle Phan, is expanding its business beyond sample-sized products. The company today is debuting a more expensive “Glam Bag Plus” subscription, which will ship customers five full-sized products for $25 per month.
The move aims to capitalize on Ipsy’s established customer base who now trust Ipsy’s beauty products recommendations to the point they’re willing to pay upfront for full-sized products, instead of only samples with the option to later shop online for the products they liked.
It may also help attract a new customer who doesn’t find value in samples – which are sometimes one-use products, or packaged poorly compared with their full-size counterparts, making them difficult to travel with or throw in a purse.
So far, Ipsy’s curation has been succeeding – it touts over 3 million subscribers, compared with rival Birchbox’s over 2.5 million.
Ipsy, for what it’s worth, tends to offer better samples than Birchbox, now majority owned by hedge fund Viking Global Investors, after some financial struggles.
Birchbox shipments are often too reliant on less valuable items, like single-use makeup wipes, tiny eyeshadows without a reliable protective case, or totally hit-or-miss perfume samples, for example. Ipsy, meanwhile, sends out full-sized makeup brushes and other full-sized items along with samples on a regular basis. It also prioritizes makeup products over hair and skin care items in its curation.
Plus, it ships products in a reusable makeup travel bag (which, frankly, is great for when you need to unload some of your less-loved samples on friends).
With the new Glam Bag Plus, customers will have the option of paying a little more – $25 per month instead of $10 – for a selection of full-sized products, which would normally retail for $120.
The company says it will work with brands like Sunday Riley, Ciaté London, Purlisse, Morphe, Tarte Cosmetics, Buxom, and others.
As before, the exact mix of products shipped will be based on subscribers’ beauty profile. Today, Ipsy creates over 10,000 different makeup combinations in its monthly Glam Bag memberships, it says, because of this personalization.
The Plus service will also ship out a deluxe (read: larger) makeup bag on the first delivery, then every third delivery afterwards, as part of its subscription.
The new service will better cater to skin and hair care companies, and especially to newer brands that may not offer a wide ranges of samples at this time, but still want to be able to reach Ipsy’s millennial subscriber base.
Initially, existing Glam Bag subscribers will be able to switch over to the Plus tier of service, which will ship its first bag in October.
However, the company is advising customers that it has limited quantities of Glam Bag Plus products, so if they choose to later downgrade back to the sample Glam Bag, they may end up on a waitlist if they decide later they want to re-join Plus.
Ipsy also says it’s not set up right now to handle customers who want both memberships, so those who do should create a second account as a workaround.
Ipsy’s co-founder Michelle Phan left the startup last fall to run online makeup site EM Cosmetics, but Ipsy itself remains profitable – and it has been for several years. The company’s real value is not the money to be made on the subscription business itself, but rather in helping beauty brands reach social media influencers and YouTube stars, whose makeup tutorials and recommendations help them to gain exposure.
While Ipsy, like many in the subscription business, won’t talk about its critical business metrics like churn or margins, the company believes the Plus subscription will do well because it’s something members have been requesting for some time. It also surveyed the user community and ran focus groups ahead of this product’s launch, it told Glossy.
The subscription will become available to more customers in the future, says Ipsy.

Gone
I bought a drop spindle on Amazon a couple of Christmases ago to teach myself how to spin yarn.  It’s gone.
I bought a pound of unwashed wool so I could learn to process it.  It’s gone.
After much deliberation, I bought myself three skeins of Caron Cakes yarn.  I was saving it to make a baby blanket once I was done with Doug’s afghan.  It’s gone.
Speaking of Doug’s afghan--also gone.  Smoke damaged, and water damaged.
Most of my pattern books are gone; I just grabbed the Elizabeth Zimmerman ones I could think of right then.  I think I forgot *Knit One, Knit All* and I know I forgot *The Opinionated Knitter*, but I had planned to replace both of those anyway, since mice got to them.  My stitch dictionaries are gone.  My baby pattern books are gone.  All but one of my crocheting books--the one Erik got me for Mother’s Day and I would. not. leave. behind.--are gone.  The window behind the bookcase was broken, the case shoved to the side, and a fire hose passed through it, so there was water damage to go with the smoke damage.
All the Craig Johnson books Erik and I bought.  All the Tony Hillerman novels, the Stephen King novels, the Kim Harrison book I was reading, the Bible I bought Esther, the Book of Common Prayer I was given while planning Psalm’s memorial service, the brand new counter top convection oven I was so proud of finding at Goodwill for $13, the carefully-collected vintage Corelle plates, the how-to art book I bought Marie, the giant packs of newsprint I bought to write and draw, the pretty purple dress I was starting to fit in better, the marabou-pouf slippers Mark gave me, the perfectly fitting and not even too long Gloria Vanderbildt blue jeans....Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.
All of the things I have created since we moved here, gone.  The twelve shawls I carefully made last year, gone.  The pink and pink and pink and pink afghan I made for Esther, gone.  The sweater I knitted myself, and the one I made for Lewis, both gone.  The little round vest I made for Marie, gone.  The yarn I had to make her a skirt to match, that was a gift from Erik, gone.  All my wool for making soakers (and the soakers I’d already made), the bouclé yarn for the Waldorf doll I planned to knit, the sequinned yarn I was going to use to make a prayer shawl for one of the priests at church, all gone.
I have always considered myself to not be a very materialistic person.  I’ve always left things behind when moving, shedding it like the skin of a growing snake.  But I was always able to take with me the most important things.
The fire took that ability from me.  Some of what was rescued is less important than what was left behind, taken only because it was possible to do so.  The Ipsy glam bag that arrived Monday right before the fire, that had just one thing in it of interest?  I grabbed that fucker after the fire, ‘cause damned if I’m going to let that slip away since it had just arrived.  Took the big box of makeup too.  Took the guitar I never managed to learn how to play.  My mother went back to get some things and asked if I wanted my thigh-high boots that only sort of fit.  Shit, yeah.  Ain’t nobody taking those away from me, I don’t care if I only wore them once.
Everybody says--and I do too--”What matters is that everyone made it out safely.”
There wasn’t really any chance of that not happening, not unless we’d sat in there another 20 minutes while the fire grew, but I know how important it is.  I sat in the grass petting the velvet bag that holds the box with Psalm’s ashes, crying, afraid we would be in exactly the position we are in.
It’s not the things, you know?  Things can always be replaced.  People have offered yarn, and I can buy used copies of the most important books and crochet dozens more shawls.
It’s the loss of control.  My bête noire.  As a kid, as a victim of abuse, control was taken away from me at every turn, and I covet it and cling to it.  That fire was every abuser all in one.  Every kick in the teeth I suffered ever in my life.  Nope, you can’t have that.  It’s not for you.
