I'm noticing that [adult swim] is getting more female-oriented nowadays. yolo, birdgirl, them rescuing tuca and bertie, unicorn warriors eternal having a female lead and romantic subplot, my adventures with superman pretty much being a shojo, sailor moon airing on the toonami rewind block, invincible fight girl, women wearing shoulder pads.
considering that Mike Lazzo infamously said that women aren't funny and refused to hire them, I see this an absolute win. he must be sooooo angry right now lol
#even smiling friends is popular with the fujos#I mean everyone like smiling friends#but when the fujos are making yaoi fanart of it you know you've won#they're the backbone of a bunch of fandoms let's face it#why else do you think they put Charlie in a maid outfit?#to thank their fujo fanbase duh#adult swim#toonami#yolo crystal fantasy#yolo silver destiny#birdgirl#tuca and bertie#unicorn warriors eternal#my adventures with superman#sailor moon#invincible fight girl#women wearing shoulder pads

Hazbins bad character design
I feel like there is a definitive lack of varitey when it comes to the designs in HH as well as a problem of characters' designs not fitting them or what the show wants us to assume about them.
I've said it before and I'll say it again (like lots of other ppl already) but the designs in HH specifically mostly don't work. They're fine if you look at them disconnected from the show. Maybe as just random characters who don't really have to carry a show visually. But they don't work if you actually put them into context and into the background of Hazbin Hotel.
Obviously this stuff is very objective and if you do like the designs thats fine (which I shouldn't even have to say). Also I didn't study art or character design and I don't think you have to to be good at it/be able to form opinions on it and this is mostly just me compiling what I don't like while using some basic knowledge on how shapes, colours etc work.
(rant under the cut)
One problem I really have is, that as soon as you have a design there are immediate assumptions about the character. In the sense that if person A is very muscular and fights against person B, who is maybe slimmer or less buff, you would probably immediately assume that person A wins, atleast in physical combat. Whereas person B would probably be the assumed winner in a stretching or flexibility competition. Often characters are designed with these assumptions in mind. Muscle, height, weight, age, clothes etc. give way into assuming stuff about people, their condition, lifestyle or personality.
The expectations that are set up by the design choices are usually either picked to genuinely represent something about a character or to be subverted and shock/confuse the audience.
Like how a lot of fighting types in Pokémon will either be more muscular or have other details relating to certain fighting styles/sports and the fairy types are usually pinkish, fluffy and cutesy. Because these elements are something typically associated with these types and when we look at them we can pretty easily tell which type they're supposed to be.

Otherwise, Monster girl from Invincible is drawn as a twelve year old girl, so it subverts expectations when she turns into a big green monster and generally doesn't stray away from violence, because it's something you wouldn't have assumed about her from her appearance.

In Hazbin Hotel most of the time the character designs don't necessarily fit what they're supposed to be and they also don't use the other design choices as subversion (the one that would probably count here is Nifty with looking and acting very childlike usually but then also acting violent/crazy sometimes).
The first thing would probably be that characters don't look their age mostly.
Charlie and Valeria (Vaggie, but I really don't wanna keep calling her that so she gets a new name) look fine as they're supposed to be around 20. Rosie and Carmilla also look alright for what we can assume their ages are supposed to be. But Alastor is in his 30s or 40s (what it says on the fandom wiki) and he looks around 20 as well. The same thing goes for Lucifer. He looks so young that he could also count as just Charlies brother or friend rather than her dad, because he doesn't look like he could be the dad of a 20 year old. This makes the song "Hell's Greatest Dad" a bit awkward because these men are singing/competing about who is better as Charlies father but they don't look a day older than her. Husk also looks way too young for someone in his 60s-70s (again from the wiki).
The body types being all the same also doesn't help.
Mimzy and Adam are pretty much the only more relevant characters who aren't like all the others in terms of body shape. All the other relevant women in the show have a tiny waist and either big boobs/big hips or just a slimmer build in general. All the men have thin waists and then broader shoulders.

And for some characters it makes sense. Like Angel is really flexible and his more lanky body fits with being a spider. But why are Lucifer and Valentino like that? Other than the fact that Viv doesn't like drawing muscles there is really no reason for them too being build like every other skinny man there. Valentino is supposed to be intimidating not just by how he acts but physically too. He seemingly has a bit more muscle than others but his arms are still super thin and look like they could snap if I look at them wrong. I'm not trying to say that abusers all have to be buff, but simply from a design perspective the scenes with him would be a lot more effective if we saw him actually have a big physical advantage over Angel and others, even when he isn't necessarily threatening them. As soon as he comes on screen, we could see him as a much more intimidating presence, especially when all the other characters look like sticks. Or they could make it so, that he hides his muscles under his coat and when we get the reveal of him actually removing it, it's more shocking and immediately makes the situation more tense.

Lucifer could've had a more confident frame as well. He's the king of hell and the strongest being in hell, so just for the diversity I would give him some muscles too. Husk is also super skinny and for someone who only sits around and drinks alcohol all day, he should definitely have a beer belly (please I swear to god I wanna see more men with bellies, Mammon was great). Also for Valeria and Lute and pretty much all the Angels I don't get why they wouldn't be more buff either. Valeria is a fighter, she's Charlies bodyguard but she looks like all of the other women there. It's stated that Angels fight so wild because they don't know they could get hurt. And while I know that the Angels can really only get hurt by angelic weapons, having this whole reveal that they can be injured would've definitely suprised me more, if they actually looked like they couldn't be injured in the first place. But then again, Valeria looks like her arms would break as soon as a breeze hits them too hard. In some episodes her thighs look a bit more muscular, but not notably and she also doesn't fight using her legs (like Carmilla) so only her thighs being bigger sort of doesn't make sense. In general, she or Lute don't show any difference to the women who aren't physical fighters. And obviously just to have a more interesting show to look at, including different body types would do a great job at making these characters stand apart from eachother more.
While we're on the topic of diversity, another obvious thing that makes the characters redundant and borig (sometimes ugly too) is the reused colour pallette. Colour coding is probably one of the easiest things when talking about character designs and it's something atleast Helluva Boss understands.
What effect warm/cold tones have or what feelings we associate with different colours is a great way to bring stuff about characters across without being too on the nose. Obviously colour can also be used to either connect characters or to make them very distinct. Shape language also plays into that of course. In Inside Out the emotions are mostly characterized by their respective colour and by their distinct shapes.
Joy = yellow (bright colour often associated with the sun/light)
Sadness = blue (cold colour often associated with tears/rain)
Anger = red (very strong colour with aggressive association with fire or when someone turns red because of anger)
Fear = purple (light colour here, mix between red and blue as fear often falls into a more angry or sad feeling)
Disgust = green (colour of most dirt or puke or other stuff people usually see as gross)
Or in a show like Bluey, where different patterns, shapes and colours show the breed of the dog and also how characters might be related to eachother (same breed/mix of breed = usually related).

Or how colours can be used as lighting effects to create cool shots when the colour pallette changes all of a sudden. In JJBA these changes happen often when someone is in distress or unsure of themselves. Also in tense moments to make them seem more exciting and interesting.

Hazbin Hotel has very limited range when it comes to the colours of the main cast. All of them feature some form of red and that usually in combination with black or white (if they aren't just purely red like Alastor or Rosie). This makes them not stand out from eachother and creates very similar colour pallettes which get boring once you've seen them repeated over and over again. It also makes the visual connection between characters who are actually related (like Charlie and Lucifer) a lot less strong because so many characters share similarities already.
Also they just hurt to look at sometimes because the background is mostly red as well and with a lot of them being very overly detailed. People have also spoken before about the show being pretty inaccessible for colour blind/vision impared people due to these issues with the colour.
And now you might say that it's hell and therefore it makes sense for all of them and the background to be red. But firstly, I don't think that there is a definitive source which decides that hell is red and can only be shown/interpreted as red. And also there is another show, also set in hell which actually does a much better job at that and actually shows different colours in hell. Like in Helluva Boss the rings are all colour coded.

And I know, that HH plays in the pride ring fully, but imagine how cool it would've been to see sinners have colours similar to the sin(s) they committed. This could lead to them looking distinct from eachother and the background and would also lead to us being able to assume stuff about them, if we're familiar with the colour coding. In "Hell's Greatest Dad" they do a fun colour change with different light and it's really refreshing and I just wanted to see more variety like that (of course I kinda get that the colour changing isn't really part of the shows design but it was pretty cool to see in that song).
There also is the issue with characters that are supposed to be animal-like sinners not looking like the animal they apparently take inspiration from. The thing is that the animal/object parts don't necessarily have to be visible to understand a character. But in the show, how sinners look in hell is often influenced by their life on earth. Vox's head being a TV is because he was a Tv-show host when he was alive. Nifty also is supposedly a bug, which makes sense because she hates bugs and probably hated them in real life too. But that is where it would be great to actually have Nifty resemble a bug, instead she has no features of one and just looks like a regular humanoid sinner. The same thing happens with Alastor being a deer, Valeria a moth, Charlie goat-like and Angel a spider (also Mimzy is apparently based off of a chicken). Like I said, the animal inspiration isn't essential to the characters, but emphasizing these design elements could help the characters stand out instead of them all just looking like sort of human characters. Sir pentious and Husk work the best in terms of presenting their animal inspiration (though pretty much everything else about Husks design sucks ass).

And then there are complaints about the characters that are supposed to be people of colour not having any features that resemble their race. It's just a bit weird when a mostly humanoid sinner doesn't really seem to resemble how the person looked in real life. Black characters have really desaturated and sometimes just straight up grey skin in HH. Alastor is probably the most egregious in that regard, but also Emily has just light blueish gray skin and no textured hair or other black features like the nose or lips or palms. Velvette and Sera have darker skin but also no other features (except for when we see Velvette's natural hair texture in like one shot at the end of the season). I know there are other things wrong with how Voodoo is presented in HH or with Mimzy's design often being seen as a jewish caricature, but I don't wanna focus on that fully, because I feel like there are people better suited for talking about that (black people or jewish people ofc).
In general HH is a show with pretty bad designs (imo). That's actually a thing I prefer about Helluva Boss, because there the designs are mostly okay or actually sometimes pretty good. Striker is probably my favourite design in both shows (he reminds me of Dillon and that's cool).

I like Mammon, Asmodeus, Octavia and Loona as well. I would still probably change a bunch if I were to redesing the HB cast but they overall look more solid than the HH cast.
This was another post which pretty quickly became an excuse to talk about other media I enjoy. I might do that more often, because comparing elements of HH or HB to other stuff makes it kinda easier to articulate my feelings. Also just because I enjoy talking about other stuff too.

Sleigh
25 Days of Ficmas
Relationship: Paul x Reader
Fandom: The Lost Boys
Request: No
Warnings: Fluff, Mentions of Weed, Mentions of Fighting
Word Count: 1,413
Main Masterlist: Here
Lost Boys Masterlist: Here
Summary: It’s on one cold night in December that the boys and girls in the cave realize, they need to tell Paul there’s more than one version of sleigh.
Consider Donating: Here
“Man, I wish we had snow.” Turning to face her vampire boyfriend as they leaned again the railing at the pier, she looked towards him slightly concerned.
“How high are you right now?”
“Babe, ‘m fine. I only had one.” She breathed a sigh of relief. But that was quickly cut off when she came to a realization.
“One blunt or one ounce, Paul?” The man refused to look her in the eyes after that.
“I’m just saying. It’d be nice to have some snow at Christmas for once.” Bright lights began to draw his attention partially away from his girlfriend in his arms. Holiday styled twinkle lights and garland were strung up on each edge of the buildings and even palm trees.
“Paulie, we live in California. We ain’t getting snow anytime soon. Might be able to see some going east, but certainly not here.” She pointed out, fiddling with the ends of his hair near her face.
“I know,” he whined, eyes coming back to his girlfriend, “just a wish, ya know.”
“Why do you want to wish for snow, Paul,” came her ask, trailing her eyes up to meet his.
“Well…” now, he looked nervous. “I-I’ve always wanted to go sledding.”
At his admission, she began to giggle which turned into full laughter. Paul, who was confused as to what she was laughing about, nervously began to chuckle. He could tell that this was not a mocking laugh; his lover did not do that to him. But he still was not sure what was so funny that he said.
“I’m sorry, Paul.” She wiped her eyes briefly. “I’m sorry, it’s just… sledding? That’s why you want it to snow?”
“Yeah,” he murmured, burying his face into the crook of her neck for safety.
“Oh, sweet boy. You do know they’re more than one type of sledding, right?” Her hands began to soothe him with gentle strokes; one in his hair, the other one his back. However, he broke that by jolting upright.
“There is?” Paul’s eyes were filled with childlike wonder.
“Yeah. You have sleds in the cave. I’ll show you when we go back, okay?”
The vampire nodded rapidly as he brought her in even closer than before. He left kisses all over the exposed skin that he could reach, making her giggle at the slight scratchiness of his jaw. Before it could go any further, Paul’s brothers came up to collect the happy couple from where they stood.
“Pretty lady!” Marko exclaimed, running over to try and steal her from Paul’s grasp. However, the taller blonde vampire was making sure that did not happen. Being picked up from her boyfriend now meant that she was being made into the object of a game of keep-away between the two.
Eventually, they did calm down enough to get them on the bikes to head towards the cave they called home. Paul drove slightly safer with his girlfriend on the back, knowing that she was not as invincible as the rest of them. But he was getting more and more excited the closer they got. Hopefully, she would not forget about what she had said to him at the pier.
Leading her down into the cave, Paul bounced slightly as he led her down. When everyone made it in, Paul went to the fountain and sat down. David went to his chair, Dwayne took Laddie into their little cove, Marko went off to his beds, and Star went to do whatever Star did. Yet, Paul just watched his girlfriend with rapt attention. She walked around, looking at all the things that they had strewn about the cave.
It took a minute but soon she was holding a couple of silver trash can lids in her hands. Looking towards her boyfriend, she smirked and nodded her head towards the entrance of their abandoned hotel. Without hesitation, Paul scrambled after her to assist in helping her back up the rocky stairs. Once they were out in the cool night air again, one of the lids was shoved in the vampire’s direction as she guided them closer to some very large hills of sand.
“What am I supposed to do with this?” He asked, staring at it and the girl confused. Saying nothing, a wink was shot at him as she quickly moved to sit down on the indent of the lid. As soon as she did, she took off towards the bottom of the hill, laughing and yelling the whole way.
Taking her cue, Paul did what she did. Sitting so that he was on the inside of the lid, he scooted forward inch by inch, until he, too, was soaring down the hill. He laughed as he felt the wind whipping through his hair, and the sand giving way underneath the lid. Skidding to a stop, Paul, with wide eyes and an even wider smile, tackled her on her own lid into a bruising hug as he peppered kisses all around her face and neck.
“That was awesome! Let’s do it again.” Pulling away sharply, he scooped her up into his arms, grabbed the lids, and flew them back up to the top. Now it was her turn to laugh in delight. It was not often that she did get flown around given her mortal status, so it was a treat whenever it did happen.
The couple spent another hour doing exactly that. Sledding down on their trash can lids before flying back up to the top to do it again. All the while laughing, screaming, smiling, and just enjoying their time together.
“What are you two lovebirds doing?” A voice shocked them as they came back up to the top once more. Paul’s brothers, including Laddie stood at the top. Startled by David’s voice, she began to fall back, only just managing to land on her lid as she slid down backwards. Getting over his panic, Paul was amazed at the new way to do this activity.
“You gotta try it!” He yelled, following after his girlfriend as he sledded backwards. All of the other men stood there, watching the pair slide down the hill with mixed reactions. Or rather, everyone besides David was watching it excitedly because they wanted to try it. However, the bleach blonde leader was a little more hesitant.
She gave her lid over to Dwayne first, who sat down and took Laddie with him down the hill. Paul switched with Marko, giving both of them a bit of a break. Sitting down, they relaxed as they listened to the happy noises coming from below the ramp. Marko came back up from his second time down, and looked over at David.
“You sure you don’t wanna give it a shot?” The cherub faced vampire held the lid to his brother, trying to entice him into taking the item.
“I’m good, Marko.” David shot back, lighting up a cigarette in the meantime. Marko’s face scrunched making it very plain that he did not like that answer.
“I guess so. But we’re all having fun, so… Paul,” and without warning her boyfriend stood up fast as lightning to grab the lid. While he did that Marko grabbed David, who was trying to break his hold, kicking and cussing the entire time.
“Let me go! Marko, I swear if you don’t release me-” the threat fell silent as Paul helped the two vampires sit down on the lid. He wiggled his fingers with a mischievous smirk, and shoved them down the hill.
Marko was screaming excitedly. David was not. As soon as they went down, Paul urged his girlfriend over to watch them. She tucked herself underneath his arm as she enjoyed the show below. The very millisecond that the two blondes stopped, David was fighting with Marko. Claws and teeth were grazing skin as he was pissed. But sitting at the top, Paul just pressed a kiss to his partner’s head, enjoying the show, and the night that had been brought to him.
“Paulie?” She asked after a beat of silence, looking up at him.
“Yes, sweetie?” He replied, gazing down into her eyes.
“You never answered my question from earlier.” Paul tilted his head confused as he tried to remember what she was talking about.
“Did you smoke one blunt, or one ounce?” Pressing his lips together, he quickly looked away.
“Paul…” she started, and thus began a much more playful fight at the top of the hill.

I'mma be so real bestie, it's getting really hard to not get jealous of Canary Continuity but then I go and look through all the incredible fanart you've made and things are okay again <3
Fear not, SWSA will always be my no. 1. Nothing changed my brain chemistry like your fic did. I'm slow but I still have so much fanart I want to make of SWSA. No other fic has A BACKLOG LIST
Have a WIP

Not me watching invincible fight girl last week and going WAIT. THAT. THAT SHOT. I WAS LOOKING TO EMULATE THAT
*cough* anyways, Ive shared too much
I've been trying to be better about letting other fic authors know that I appreciate their fic. And canary continuity scratches an itch I've been searching for in the rise fandom so I've been kinda loud about it. Doesn't mean I like any other fic less. Certainly not SWSA. I think there's enough love to go around. But I understand the feeling.

Why is it so hard to deconstruct Magical Girls?
As some might have noticed, I have recently been rewatching a lot of old anime from my teen days. And something I cannot help but think about while doing this is: "Why is it seemingly so hard to deconstruct the magical girl genre?" Because here is the thing: I know several attempts at genre deconstruction for this specific genre... But none of them are actually what I would count as a genre deconstruction.
Basically, deconstruction of a genre usually means that a genre is played straight. Like, you take the usual tropes of a genre and play them straight or with some sense of realism. Which we have plenty of in a variety of genre. I mean, with the rise of the superhero stuff over in the west, we have a ton of superhero deconstructions (like The Boys or Invincible), that mostly go for the most obvious issue with superheroes: "What if Superman was evil?" While also dealing with some other stuff, like how superheroes might be organized and controlled, how this would work with capitalism and so on and so forth. Now, a lot of folks are bored with "Superman, but evil", but yes, it is a very clear deconstruction.
In anime/manga we also have a ton of deconstruction going on. I mean, by now it should be fairly clear: Yeah, my original fandom obsession was Digimon Tamers, which basically deconstructs the first two seasons in many regards. And when it comes to the monster taming genre, there is also Narutaru, which is a deconstruction of the genre. And I might talk about Narutaru on another day.
There is also a ton of really great Mecha genre deconstructions - though ironically speaking, I feel like most of the Mecha genre is already deconstructing itself. When your biggest franchise (Gundam) in a genre frequently is build around the premise of: "You do realize, that this is about child soldiers, right? RIGHT?!" then maybe deconstructing the genre is not that hard.
But somehow... magical girls are different.
Like, there is a variety of shows that are kinda attempting to deconstruct the genre, but... Well, if you look on TV Tropes for the Genre Deconstruction Trope, it explicitly calls out that a Genre Deconstruction is "playing the tropes of the genre straight and more realistic", and it is explicitly not "some tropes of the genre, but darker and edgier".
And here is the thing: Most of what I know as Magical Girl Deconstructions, is actually "darker and edgier", not a straight up deconstruction of the genre. Which is not to say that they are bad! Hell no! I enjoy most of them. But they are not deconstructions.
Let me go over the three that left the biggest impact on me. Though first maybe we should define what makes Magical Girls?
I mean, the genre has changed a whole lot ever since Sailor Moon appeared on the scene. And maybe that in itself is a thing, because in some regards Sailor Moon - like Gundam - was fairly good at deconstructing itself. Never the less, I will go with the ideas that have been prevelent in the genre since Sailor Moon, even though there was magical girl media before it, that worked by different rules.
One or more girls usually between 12 and 17 years of age get a magical power to transform into super heroines.
The story usually is set in the real world.
Usually they will draw those powers over some sort of mascot character or multiple characters.
The shows usually mainly exist to promote merchandise, which is why the magical girls will usually have a ton of magic items and weaponry.
Almost always there is gonna be some fetch- or collect-quest involved for powering up those items.
The power of friendship!
Romance might or might not play a role, but it will always be secondary to the aforementioned power of friendship.
Usually the magical girls will fight "monsters of the week", that often are normal everyday things that get filled with evil magic by the villains.
The villains often are some sort of otherworldly empire, that has come to earth to either take over or collect items of some sort.
My Otome: Now, some people say that MyHiME is also a Magical Girl Deconstruction, with which I absolutely do not agree, where the fuck are my cute costumes and transformation sequences? MyHiME if anything to me reads like a monster tamer deconstruction, really. But MyOtome? MyOtome is a Magical Girl Something for sure. But... Well, it does not really deconstruct the genre, does it? This already starts with the story being set in a different world from ours, and with the girls not really being "chosen", but the setting being a school for magical girls. While some of the first half of the show does play with some of the typical tropes (monster of the week and such), the story fairly quickly goes to deep into the politics of its fictional world and the war story. While yes, technically you absolutely can argue that magical girls are in fact also child soldiers... They are not usually soldiers in a literal war, and the entire fantasy politics stuff - while I absolutely loved it - does not really feel like a real deconstruction. Instead it feels more like a fantasy war story, that you also put magical girls into. Yes, those magical girls behave a lot more like realistic teens, but that does not make it a deconstruction.
Uta~Kata: Alright, let me talk about my favorite of these, despite me being rather disturbed at some of the fanservice considering the girls are like 13. In Uta~Kata we have one girl, who gets magic powers, which is fine though, as several magical girl shows actually have just one main character. It is also set in the real world. However, this is where it ends. Because... Well, there is no fights. There is no evil. There is no weapons. There is none of the usual tropes. It is basically just deities mindfucking with this one girl to find out something, that I shall not spoil, given that nobody knows this series for some reason. But basically the only deconstruction in it is: "This is a girl with magic powers, and the girl works more like a realistic teenager would." Which... Uhm, yeah, no, does not really make it a deconstruction, does it?
Madoka Magica: Madoka is probably the one really well known Magical Girl deconstruction, but I once again will argue that it does not really qualify much as a deconstruction - because the thing that makes the entire draw of Madoka Magica is that it does not play the tropes straight or realistic, but rather subverts them completely. The entire concept of Madoka Magica is build around the idea that the girls are supposed to die/be corrupted by design, which is a twist on the usual magical girl formular, not a deconstruction. While Madoka Magica is good at playing around with the aesthetics of the genre, the show does not really play any of the tropes straight, but rather puts in completely new tropes in that place. Sure, some of those tropes (teenage girls being moody and this makes them so great for corruption) are kinda based in what the genre offers in itself - but it also does not feel like a straight up deconstruction.
Again, nothing against any of these shows. I love them dearly. I do. I just find it... interesting.
And I am honestly starting to wonder at this: Why is there not a straight up deconstruction of a Magical Girls show? And be it just as a manga or comic or something along the sort.
Sure, the shows above do deconstruct single aspects of the Magical Girl genre, but never the whole thing.
Like, thinking of deconstructions of other genre, there is like a ton of stuff I could see as a deconstruction of the magical girl genre - without actually going into fully subverting it and twisting it around. I mean, especially Uta~Kata and Madoka go more into psychological horror than actually into the deconstruction, right?
Something I would more expect to see in a genre deconstruction would be:
Magical Girls actually running into issues in regards of keeping up performance in school/clubs while also saving the world.
Magical Girls running into issues keeping their identities secret and actually facing consequences because of this.
Yeah, obviously, I also could see "Magical Girl, who gets bullied, uses her powers on the bullies" (or, depending on how harsh you wanna go with this, you could also go for more severe scenarios like: "Magical Girl who gets sexually exploited by a teacher uses her powers against teacher".)
Something in regards to: "Well, what if the power of friendship starts to break?" As well as actually kinda deconstruction the entire "friendship and love" dynamic that Magical Girl stuff does play around with a lot.
Given how prevalent sapphic subtext is within the genre, one could probably also work with that.
The entire merchandise/weapons/item thing is also so ready for deconstruction - something that could go in a variety of directions. Either with how unpractical the actual stuff is, or just how it does hinder plot.
And of course the other prime thing ready for deconstruction: You usually have a fucking alien invasion of some sort in these stories with monsters, and people getting hurt, buildings being destroyed and what not... and nobody from any government gives a shit? No, but really. I would assume that some sort of government would try to get involved here.
There is probably a million other subtropes that one could deconstruct about the genre, but that is some stuff I could think about.
Ironically it would not even need to go fully into horror for that, even though deconstructions will probably always have a slight horror-sensibility about themselves. But... you know. I think if I look at the Magical Girl deconstruction stuff at large (aka the shows that I did not name here), a lot of it is built way too much around shock factor of the violence that one gets shown. And that... is not really interesting deconstruction, right?
Sure, violence can absolutely be a part of deconstruction. And I do not think a proper deconstruction should be anything less than PG13, if not R-Rated. But... Why make it all bloody? Like the main things that one can play straight and realistic, do not need blood. It needs ore like characters being more... batshit.

Well that year went by and I still didn’t get any writing down I need to get back into it or I’ve just wasted my life I need to to take a break from social media, but I need help I’ve become so addicted to fandoms and social media. I haven’t focused on what I’ve wanted for so long to write a script and make something out of it.
Anyway happy holidays to whoever follows me and to people in fandoms I follow hope your enjoying them and don’t feel so depressed or apathetic. And you hopefully get what you want for Christmas or Hanukkah or whatever other holiday you celebrate.

So my last post I made abt invincible was basically me ranting abt how much I hate the invincible fandom’s treatment of mark after SPOILERSSSS
he was sexually assaulted by Anissa and I got a few replies talking abt how when it’s a man being raped they’re expected to like it and are encouraged by men and women to “suck it up”. I didn’t think I’d have to dumb it down for some of the assholes on TikTok and even tumblr and basically any social media platform that RAPE. IS. BAD. If it’s a boy or girl, it’s bad. If it’s a man or woman, it’s bad. No one deserves rape. And it’s especially concerning that people think men should not only enjoy rape, but they shouldn’t complain about it, nor should they actively try to stop someone from sexually assaulting them.
People are always complaining about shit like “there are always female rape victims portrayed in shows but what about the male victims? Men’s mental health isn’t given any representation at all!!!” And yes there are always more female rape victims. Men’s mental health isn’t given a lot of representation but that’s because when it IS, people (even men) treat it like a joke, because forfuckingever, men have been expected to enjoy sex no matter the circumstance. So the people on TikTok saying shit like “why is he complaining he’s so lucky” when mark is actively trying to stop Anissa from raping him are disgusting. Here are some examples that I found that genuinely made me want to bleach my eyes and stop watching the show entirely.
The first one is a screenshot I took of a TikTok video calling Anissa the “baddest female in invincible”
The second is a video of the fight between Anissa and mark and the hearing says “IT SHOULD BE ME” and most of the comments are claiming they’d “switch places with mark”. Thankfully, some of the comments are actually fucking reasonable.

Its like my first post here and im already have something controversial to say
I need to summon Bartseq and Howl's moving castle fandoms
How about Bartimaeus trilogy and Castle in the air (moving castle) crossover
Soldier and Abdullah's mission but it's kinda loser magician/rude jinni dynamic
Me and chat literally jump from one trilogy to another ten times a day so crossover was only a matter of time
(don't expect me to have structure or something, it's just an draft of idea, and i don't even know english that much)
Abdullah, an apprentice of magician, first time summoned someone more powerful than foliot. He needs help with search of Flower-of-night, and he think sm stole her, like many other girls in town
But this jinnie don't seem to be helpful.
Demon named Justin do everything but help
First he was summoned he wasn't scary, creep, or any word that you imagined when hear ab demons, nah
Jinn looks like a soldier in an old-fashioned gray uniform, his eyes glowing an inhuman blue. Not only did he light up the room with a green ghostly glow, he still looked as if he had just been pulled out of the field.
Abdullah was rather confused than scared, and then, spirit, in a form of man, begin to talk in this throbbing, polyphonic voice.
He's bragging about how many wars he won, how many battlefield he go through and how much well-known generals he spoke to.
And i think he don't want to anyone call him by his name bc "on the war we don't have names until we dead. Only titles, I'm just a Soldier."
(if you even care, author of idea described it like
WHAT DOES A KID NEED FROM THE SPIRIT OF WAR...U NEED ME TO FIND YOUR LOVER? AM I LIKE CUPID TO YOU, OR WHAT? LOOK CAREFULLY: BEFORE YOU, THE HERO OF COUNTLESS WARS!!!! INVINCIBLE MILITARY POWER!!!!! I HAVE WENT THROUGH SO MANY FIELDS OF BATTLE THAT YOU HAVE NEVER DREAMED SO MANY DREAMS IN YOUR LIFE AND WILL NEVER DREAM, SAY YOUR TRUE ORDER, I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE SOMETHING BETTER FOR ME )
He talks too much, Abdullah thinks. And little bit even thankfull for that bc last day were wild, he needs a minute to breathe and calm down. So he listens demons comments on everything
On his stupid order, bc he clearly doesn't expect some child summon him to find a girl. He expect another war. Even asked who we fight against this time. All his life he was called only for such tasks. he emphasized that battles were his specialty, and he would not accept any other assignment (actually i think poor man needs to learn how to live outside of war but it's just me)
An place. He looks out of window and goes "dammit don't tell me it's Ingary. Ugh, I've hated this place since the war against Strangia" or something
"yes, oh most rustless out off jinns, it's actually Kingsbury" Abdullah answer. Soldier only made a annoying noise with tongue and decided don't try to scare a boy with illusions of screams or image of running against him monsters
***
Now im gonna throw up takes without explanation
- Justin Soldier being like the worst servant in the world. Abdullah pissed, bc he often can't force him to do simple tasks. Physical punishment didn't help because 1) Abdullah almost never really do ant, but often threatens 2) Jinn don't care
So. Boy should find damn food for Jamal's angry dog himself, ashamed of how his demon unable do such a order. (Soldier bring a wrong meat for pet on purpose. He'd like to watch how boy run from him.)
- yea. In most of cases it's Soldier decide what they need to do. Not his master.
- he always tries to lead a guy astray from saving the love of his life, distractin him like maybe sometimes point on some girl
"look, such a beautiful mistress out there, see? Much closer than that your stolen princess huh, maybe try a shot?"
- ALSO. almost forgot. Justin favourite form it's that form of this random old fashioned strangian soldier (that Abdullah asked him to change bc it's capital city you know noone wants to see someone like that here. He don't care.) and black blue-eyed cat. Always one of this two looks. Yes, in this version Abdullah still have annoying cat that always sits on his shoulder. It's now just his jinn.
- Abdullah has much less professionalism and he don't have a library in his head like Nat did. Actually, by magician standards he like kinda below average. Although, surprisingly, he has one of the most powerful magicians as mentor.
- we decided. Princeses are opposition. Flower-in - night just run away from her violent and crazy mentor to girls to plan throwing a government. They all kinds of girls from magician and commoners family's, some of them are listed as missing (or as stolen. Stolen girls from all the town you know, like princesses), some are here in secret from their families, god they even have policeman on their side
- you have three take to guess who's Abdullah's mentor.
Yes. It's a damn Ben Suliman. He's one of ministers. We just don't decide minister of what he is.
(all the credits to @jutenium for this precious idea)
So. What do you think, folk.
We have more drama, i can make part 2
Bc we NEED to talk about Hatter sisters here
#imagine their canonical bartnat dialogue#where no one hears anyone but they keep talking#“u remind me of someone” “im still don't know how to make it to this place”#“this your robe..” “you said you know this street like palm of your hand”#etc#also we don't have “inhuman who actually love humans in his way”#bc Soldier HATES people#Abdullah actually related a little lol#and we don't have Kitty&Barty type of bonding#Beatrice is kinda local Kitty so#I'm decided Strangia had a place of trilogian Chech if we talk about it#so it's another reason why she hates government#The time will come#we will talk about Justin and Beatrice here#they hate each other but have to exist in same room#because noone expects Abdullah's girl to be DAMN MEMBER OF OPPOSITION#we have so much to talk about#and about loser magician ms Pendragon too#castle in the air#hmc book#prince justin#wizard suliman#I'm nervous to post this lol#also Saliman and Justin had know eash other on a Ingarian/strangian war like 20 years ago#do with this information whatever you want#soldier sincerely believe his “dear friend yong Ben Suliman” died 200 years ago#but umm no he just don't understand how much time past since his last summon
