गुलाबी आइना | THE PINK MIRROR (2003) dir. Sridhar Rangayan Bibbo, a Bollywood fashion designer, and Shabbo, a dancer, have a strenuous and often volatile relationship with each other. Though they are known to quarrel often, they are always able to reconcile soon after an argument and prove to the other that they care about them. They both have an attraction to Samir, an aspiring actor whom Bibbo claims is her driver, despite her not owning a car. The situation is further complicated by Mandy, Shabbo's young Western apprentice, who is also interested in Samir. (link in title)

Yesterday, I got to see a cut of my buddy, Jijo Kuriakose’s queer film set in Kerala — Velipaadu (വെളിപ്പാട്) — and I really enjoyed it. As the piece becomes more available internationally, | highly reccomend it.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (dir. Wes Anderson).
Netflix's series of four ultra-faithful short film adaptations of the many works of British children's author Roald Dahl are whimsically irreverent. Translated quite literally with actors narrating or repeating the literary text almost verbatim, Anderson blends his own unmistakable filmmaking style perfectly with Dahl's magical surrealism. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the titular all-seeing gambler amidst a well-casted ensemble. While Henry Sugar is the clear standout of the bunch as thirty-seven minutes of pure joyful wonder, all four shorts feature impeccable production design and fun performances from its recurring cast.
See also: The Swan, The Rat Catcher, and Poison, all written and directed by Anderson, starring the same cast, and available to stream on Netflix

queer short film: "sisak"
queer short cuts is a biweekly newsletter where i share queer & trans short film recommendations. i'm featuring some of my favorite films on tumblr because why not
youtube
india | 2017 | 15 minutes | narrative short no dialogue; written text in english
sisak, written and directed by faraz arif ansari, has no spoken dialogue whatsoever. the premise is simple: two men who ride the same daily train make eye contact and find connection in each other. not many things actually happen in sisak, not in the way film plots usually rocket along, but I still found myself a little breathless after watching it for the first time, the tension and anticipation exquisite throughout. - deepa's full review, including content notes at the end

guys Khilona and Ankahi from Ajeeb Dastaans messed me up good. in different ways, one scarred my mind permanently and the other made me want to cry and sob and wish i had that man, but they both are heartbreaking.
i fucking love this collection of short films so much.

As most times I became interested watching films from students from institutes of films/cinema in generally, ftii (film & television institute of india) specificlly after Payal Kapadia's impact how used to make shorts now she did a great job making a feature one. the point is the films from students barely got my impression cause rare of them got that honst work, not with this short from Aisha Jain's Daastaan, a story about lives in a train met when there's that old man who tried to jump of train. worthy 10 minutes.
