If I had a nickel for every time an Indian movie got an Academy Award nomination in some category for roasting the English, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

Kartiki Gonsalves’ documentary debut, “The Elephant Whisperers,” shines a spotlight on the ways in which climate change and human encroachment are rapidly destroying the habitats of Asian elephants. The film’s dire warning is subtly woven into a heartfelt narrative about forging family in unlikely places with elephant caretakers Bomman and Bellie at its core. The duo raise an orphaned elephant named Raghu, whom they’ve cared for since infancy, as well as another calf named Ammu.

RRR Stars Ram Charan and NTR Jr. Are Open to Hollywood
RRR Stars Ram Charan and NTR Jr. Are Open to Hollywood
Screenshot: Variance Films If there’s one question audiences are asking after watching S.S. Rajamouli’s epic RRR, it’s: “Where can we see more of Ram Charan and NTR Jr.?” It seems inevitable that the Tollywood superstars will blow up on the Hollywood blockbuster scene with crossover success—think pop-star BTS level, but make it cinema. It’s time to place our bets on which director or producer…

Laapataa Ladies receives a special tribute from Indian Railways following its formal participation to the Oscars.
The poignant film Laapataa Ladies, which appears to have topped Bollywood's commercial successes earlier this week by making its official Oscar entry, has gotten a special honor from Indian Railways. The film, set in the early 2000s, featured trains as a major story point, and now, the Ministry of Indian Railways has moved to social media to not only congratulate the team on their recent selection, but also to provide a touching tribute.
Tumblr media
Laapataa Ladies starred Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta as the new brides who are exchanged on their train journey to their'sasural (in-laws'). The Ministry of Indian Railways released a poster of Nitanshi as Phool on Twitter, referencing the film's popular romance track with the message "O sajni re..." Bahut bahut badhai (best wishes)! Indian Railways is happy to be a part of such a pleasant film. The poster also said, "Connecting hearts forever." Congratulations, Team Laapataa Ladies.
The Film Federation of India announced on Monday that this poignant drama would be India's official entry at the future Academy Awards, often known as Oscars 2025.
Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, is a moving drama that conveys a poignant message about women's rights and empowerment. Set in rural India in 2001, the film stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Sparsh Srivastava in prominent roles, with Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, Geeta Agarwal Sharma, and others in crucial supporting roles. The film opened in theaters on March 1 and is now available for streaming on Netflix.
