My oh my, War and Peace has so many fantastic themes besides the romantic elements (which, imho, don't play the major part).
It's about hope, belief, empathy, how easily you can be corrupted when you are around the wrong kind of people, morals, peace of course and its absence, forgiveness, pride, family...
The romance seems like a side quest tbh 😂

Do you ever go insane thinking about how every member of Laios' party is extremely atypical for their species, but a lack of exposure and understanding smoothes out these differences and makes everyone think they're the "typical" representation.
Senshi is terrible with other dwarves since he has no practical interest in mining or weapons craft. We cannot know this until Namari and later, Senshi's backstory are introduced. When we see him interact with dwarves, it's awkward and clear there's a fundamental disconnect.
Chilchuck is incredibly tall for a half foot and as such has to manage his weight more than other half foot dungeoneers so he doesnt set off traps. The first detail takes the changlings to properly understand, the second is referenced in text but is fully explained in additional materials. It is plot relevant that people who don't have the exposure to half foots might not even realize they're their own species.
Marcille as a half elf is kind of obvious to many of the elves who encounter her and they're deeply cruel and assume she's driven by a desire to be able to have children but the party never notices and Senshi especially thinks of her as a typical elf even though in truth she's so outcast she could never dine with her mother at the queens table.
Laios and Falin are a bit more complicated, since we as the audience do have context for most of tallman culture, since it mirrors our own mostly, but both of them have magical aptitude that both people like Marcille, who has a lot of access to mana and people like Chilchuck, who has very little and no magical training, fail to understand how isolating it is to have that much potential and aptitude.
Arguably Toshiro and Namari fall into this as well. Toshiro looks like the embodiment of the silent but noble warrior, but his own party and extra material confirm that he's abnormally shy and introverted, something that makes it hard for him even in his own family. Meanwhile Namari is able to stand on her own as a weapons expert and "typical" dwarf, but total dwarves who are total strangers like Dya know who she is and resent her.
Arguably a lot of dungeon meshi is about peeling back layers and assumptions not working out, but it's so great that every member of the core party gets interpreted by others (and maybe the reader) as "typical", especially with the skills line up, as a human fighter, halfling rogue, and an elven mage are so basic a stereotype. But none of are able to achieve that standard. These assumptions and misunderstandings only thrive because each party member is so inexperienced with both the biology and culture of the others. The only way they gain context is either interacting with a wider pool of people or experiencing it for themself. Everything in this story is so layered and I love it.

Rare little MLP rant from me incoming. (I don't like talking about my opinions on the show too much.)
I'm getting really fed up with a "debate" that keeps popping up every month in MLP's online fandom regarding the character, Cozy Glow, and how the show ended her storyline. The discourse is specifically about if her actions and motivations warranted her being sentenced to what is the equivalent of capital punishment in a children's show.
This shouldn't even be a conversation.? Why are fans so eager to subscribe to the show's logic that a child character is irredeemable and evil and deserves to be punished that way? Like, are these fans not seeing the issue with a children's show about friendship and redemption having a storyline like this in the first place? Especially in the season that is literally about a friendship school.
The entire concept is the problem. It's ok to admit that as a fan. Watching the show's protagonists gleefully punish a young child is distasteful. Reading threads and think pieces on why it's actually ok is gross.
I have so so so many issues with season 8-9 but I'm really only willing to talk about it if I am asked about it.

I was talking about farmers market shenanigans in the future of Flipping Fate with @collegecomics18 a while back and well... I had to doodle some of the ideas we had. (Stretch brings Edge and the reader along with him, and everyone at the market SWOONS @ them both. Sorry Stretch...)

CoD fandom stop being ableist towards Frank Woods challenge (impossible)
Not only do I see posts from people whining about how basically “Woods is useless now” but I even saw someone draw him without his wheelchair and standing upright
If you can’t draw wheelchairs, either learn to do it or don’t draw the character at all; wheelchairs aren’t even hard to draw in the first place either, you’re just ableist and lazy
Love how notable it is that everyone’s now treating Woods like a useless burden when what happened to him wasn’t even his fault and also… that’s completely untrue because disabled people are still able to do plenty of shit (not to mention, that sentiment is as ableist as you can get because it stinks of eugenics)
Reminds me of how real life veterans are treated after not only physical injuries that result in them becoming physically disabled but also mental trauma that result in them becoming mentally disabled/ill; if you don’t view real life veterans as useless burdens, why would you view Woods as one?

One thing that I deeply love about HxH as a whole is how seriously it takes the trauma of its characters.
Rather than things that happened in the characters' pasts being relegated to just simple flashbacks, their pasts legitimately feel like they shaped who they are as people in the present of the series, in both obvious and subtle ways.
I love how the significant events of their past and how they grew up are shown continuing to affect them even many years later, and not just in a straightforward "Oh, that's sad," or "This one personality trait/goal and nothing else came from that," kind of way. They make decisions based on what they've been through, the ways they understand the world are different as a result of it, what they prioritize and strive for often comes out of it, even their nen choices are often related to it.
It gives the characters a strong sense of being human, and I think this theme of trauma and how it affects people is something Togashi explores with unusual sensitivity, care, and weight. HxH doesn't lose sight of how much a deep loss or a life of abuse or neglect or abandonment shapes someone, and at the same time the narrative offers so much hope for the way connections with others provide second chances, meaning, and eventually healing.
I could go into examples, but honestly the series is full of them, almost wherever you look. All of the main four especially exemplify this. It's one of the elements that makes HxH so special to me, why it resonates with me so deeply. Plenty of stories explore this kind of theme, and a lot of them do it well, but HxH does it in an especially convincing and beautiful way, in my opinion. Because the way the characters are affected is so genuine and multifaceted, it's easy to empathize with them and find meaning in their struggles.

The real villain of fnaf is fazbear entertainment and I will die on this hill. Like yeah that guy killed people that’s the main thing wrong here obviously but he’d be dead like 3 times over if it wasn’t for them. There was an unsolved murder of 5 children at their establishment in the 80s and so they made a horror attraction about it. Used a real old decaying animatronic in said horror attraction and conveniently failed to notice there was an entire corpse in it. The bite of 87. The fact that there was not one but TWO events involving their animatronics biting someone. “It’s amazing the human body can survive without the frontal lobe.” You are only paid $4 an hour (the animatronics are trying to kill you). The pizzeria simulator restaurant burned down along with a huge mass of animatronics AND one of their founders but they somehow came back and built a BIGGER PIZZAPLEX ON TOP OF IT. Huh I wonder why the animatronics are acting weird… The true villain was corporate greed all along.

I think part of the reason that it’s taken a (very) near death experience for Arthur to openly admit that he loves John (whether that is romantic or platonic doesn’t matter) is because every time in the past where he has loved or has been loved by someone he’s lost them. Faroe died, then Parker and he currently probably thinks that he’ll never see Oscar or Noel again. Arthur believes that he is fated to lose the one’s he loves so has held back from telling John that he loves him to avoid it happening again. The voice Arthur uses to say it in ep 44 is one of a man that knows he will have his heartbroken time after time and that there’s no way to stop it. He so desperately wants to love but fears the consequences.
