Headcanons about the annual summer Cool-off Five Weenie Festival

The first festival was held the summer Shoto debuted as pro hero. There was still some controversy in relation to the Todoroki family scandal. Tamashiro and his friends organised it (with the help of their teacher) as a show of support. The first festival was very small, just inthe school yard of Magesaki, with some pupils and their families participating. But since it was in the middle of a heatwave, the videos of children playing in ice castles and ice slides went viral. The following year so many people showed up that the 3rd year they had to moveto a bigger location.

The full remedial squad has been invited and it has become also their yearly get-together. Bakugou grumbles every year, but he shows up without a fail.

Inasa mastered the art of air-powered rollercoasters. At first parents had their doubts, but nobody ever got hurt and now the line is hours long.

Camie's illusion plays are very popular. Every year she presents the illusion versions of the Top 10 of the hero billboard, as well as all the heroes who show up at the festival. Maboroki has become so popular that they make official merch for the festival.

The GEMGD clean-up competition is the closing event of the festival. Teams of kids with explosion and other destructive quirks compete on who can take apart the ice structures the fastest. The final spectacle is GEMGD himself blowing up the centerpiece castle in a show of sparkles and ice that looks like fireworks.

Iida has also been a regular at the festival. The winner of the annual piggyback ride race gets a day to work as an Ingenium sidekick for a day.

As the event gets big, there are more funds raised. The proceeds are donated to children's quirk education, but in the first couple of years, there is also a dedicated fundraising for a "mystery" project (which later is reavealed to be the Deku's armored suit development)

There is also an art competition where children can enter with drawings of their favorite hero. One year, a child makes an adorable entry showing Shoto cooling down the kids with ice and warming them up with fire. It's titled "the airconditioning hero". Shoto takes the name, and tries to convince the organizing committee to change the name of the festival from five weenies to airconditioning festival, but the organizers refuse bc 5 weenies is trademarked (The do add "cool off" to the festival name, though.)

Shoto changes the design each year of the ice castles and ice slides. The castles are shaped after famous castles around the world or from children's movies. Shoto always talks about in interviews how learning new shapes improves his quirk control.

What do you think a day at Shiketsu High is like? I'm trying to think of how Shiketsu would run as a school for an A.U., and aside from what we already know that it's obviously more strict and discipline-oriented than U.A., like how staff decides the class reps instead and how the student body isn't allowed to be in romantic relationships or even participate in mixed co-ed training together. Got any ideas?

Instead of rattling off a bunch of headcanons, I want to paint you a picture of what I think the general culture of Shiketsu is.

Shiketsu High School is more akin to a military academy. They pride themselves heavily on their heritage as a Japanese school, thinking a place like UA is far too "American" with how it teaches its students. Shiketsu training focuses more on the "practical" of hero work, namely fighting and rescuing. They don't encourage the kids to have much in the way of public personas or individuality as heroes. It's why a lot of the costumes tend to be more reserved and uniformed, especially when compared to Class 1-A. This collective mindset results in the students being encouraged to cooperate more with each other. It's why they tend to work so well as a unit as opposed to on their own. To further push for this, hero teachers tend to treat their students more like sidekicks when it comes to real training, trying to get them into that mindset of working as heroes. They treat exercises as more like heroes giving orders, with class representatives acting like head sidekicks. A lot more pressure is put on them as leaders, especially since they can be replaced. This tends to lead to a more merit based and hieratical school, yet one where the merits of heroes are recognized. Because while strict, they do care for their students and believe that the values of the school are carried on through their students.
