Retire |Kakashi X Reader| HC
Summary: You need some convincing to leave ANBU.
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol and depression. Mentions of suicide. A bit angsty and self-destructive, but fluffy overall.
Masterlist Ko-fi
- - - - -
Even though he'd retired a few years back, you were still an active ANBU captain.
The job was grueling, and he was well aware that the longer you stayed, the worse the missions became.
That isn't just because of the overall baggage people acquire, but because seasoned black ops were often sent on the more... unethical missions.
You'd been acting off recently. He had let it go at first, knowing how taxing the line of work could be, but something in his mind was bugging him to investigate.
He assumed everything had started to actually get to you, so he decided to check in on you between missions with team 7.
He knocked on your door. It took a minute, but you answered.
He wasn't sure what he'd expected, but this wasn't it.
Your appearance was appalling.
You'd lost a lot of weight, you had bags under your eyes, and you reeked of alcohol.
"Just checking in on you. It's been a while."
"Yeah, Tsunade has me on back to back missions. This is my first break in months."
He had assumed his intensive schedule with his team was the thing keeping you two apart, but apparently not.
"How about you get cleaned up while I go get us something to eat? My treat."
"I'm pretty tired, Kashi. I think I'd like to continue rotting for the time being. Thanks for the offer, though."
You gently shut the door in his face.
A sour look plastered itself on his face.
Unfortunately, your use of rotting didn't seem too far off, so he decided to talk to a third party about it.
His first stop was to see Tenzo. Maybe he knew what was up since you two worked so closely.
"I've noticed as well. I tried to ask, but they told me it wasn't appropriate for subordinates to question their captain."
Add that to the list of odd behavior.
You loved Tenzo like family, just like Kakashi did, so the sudden change was worrisome.
He went to ask Asuma as well, knowing he had been in the village more often than he had recently.
Asuma pulled him inside his home and away from prying eyes. Last thing he wanted was the wrong person hearing such a sensitive information.
"We already talked to Tsunade about it months ago when we noticed a decline in her health. Word got back to them, they said something about breach of trust, and they haven't spoken to any of us since."
Kakashi just nodded.
He remembered a time where he also reacted poorly when he'd been questioned in a similar manner.
The only difference is lord Third actually listened instead of allowing him to dig himself deeper into an early grave.
He dwelled on it for a few days.
He cared about you deeply. It was different than any of his other friendships- more personal and open.
The last thing he wanted was to go behind your back and end up with the same treatment the rest of the group was getting.
So he put on his big boy pants and showed up at your door again with vengeance.
He had been practicing what he'd say the whole way over. He needed to be prepared for anything you threw at him so he didn't falter.
But when you opened the door, his fire simmered out.
You just looked so tired.
His words got stuck in his throat.
So he did the only thing he could think of - he just walked forward, straight into you, and wrapped you up in a hug.
You resisted at first, but the second his warmth hit your bones, you relaxed.
It only lasted for a moment before the feelings started to set in, causing your body to shake with sobs.
You fell to the ground, dragging him with you, but his hold didn't loosen one bit.
"It's okay. I'm here for you."
That only made things worse. Something about his comfort was making all the feelings you've worked so hard to repress bubble up to the surface.
After you'd visibly calmed down, he'd picked you up and carried you to the couch. He positioned you so you'd be touching as much as possible without him being too forward.
"I hate ANBU."
Straight to the point. He wasn't sure if that was good or not.
"Why don't you retire? It's been almost fifteen years. That's way longer than most make it."
You hesitated. You had a reason, but the thought of saying it out loud made it sound so silly.
One look at Kakashi’s face told you he wasn't messing around.
You sighed and leaned your head on his shoulder. It made it easier to answer without him looking at you.
"If it's not me going out there, its someone else. I'm already too far gone, may as well save someone else from this fate."
Oh.
Kakashi had fully been expecting some sort of 'I can handle it' response, but this one was so... awful. Just absolutely heart-wrenching.
He collected his thoughts, trying to find a way to reason with you.
"There are people in ANBU who can handle that kind of mental load. You were that person many years ago,"
You just looked at him with that sad, defeated face, and it broke his heart all over again.
"But that's not the case anymore. It's time to pass on the torch."
You shook your head, ready to get up and kick him out. He just pulled you back down and held your hands in his.
"I was so angry when I was forced to retire. I felt like I could do more, like it wasn't that bad, and everyone was underestimating me. Do you know what happens when shinobi like us aren't told to quit?"
You shook your head.
"They end up like my father."
You stayed silent after that. How could you argue when he had just pulled the dead dad card?
So you promised to think about it.
He knew that would be as good as it would get, so he dropped it and opted to switch to a lighter subject.
After an hour or so of talking, you fell asleep. He carried you to your bed and tucked you in. He thought about staying over, but decided against it.
He didn't see you the next day. He'd knocked on your door, but no one answered, and he couldn't sense you inside.
He hoped you were just busy and not on another mission.
He did see you the next day, however.
He was heading to the Hokage's tower to chat with Tsunade about team 7's next mission when he bumped into you.
You smiled at him.
It felt like he was looking at a different person. You were almost glowing. Your eyes seemed a bit brighter, face looked a little fuller, and overall vibe was less damming.
"I retired this morning."
He damn near hugged you in front of the whole village.
"That's great to hear."

Itachi saved Sakura so you should not say that any uchiha would't care, also she is not useless. She saved Sasuke from another dimension during the last fight and he held her. I am not SasuSaku shipper but these two boys cared for her to some extent.
Hi, okay Itachi saved/stopped Sakura but how does it translate to him being interested in her romantically? If there was any other girl like Ino, Tenten, Hinata etc. in the same place as Sakura, Itachi would still stopped them. He did not stop her because it was Sakura, he stopped her because in Naruto world, just like in ours, women are weaker physically than men and the fight that Naruto had in that moment would be dangerous for her. It is not bad to be saved by a man because men and women need each other and it was totally normal what he did. He did it in his own delicate way because it is his personality and manner. Coming back to Uchiha caring for Sakura, why would they care about her in any romantic way if Sakura fits into every bad stereotype about women? She has selfish, shallow personality, she only thinks about her looks and boys and she is weak in every stereotypical way. Uchihas look mostly about talent, skills and personality. Being saved as a woman and even as a ninja woman is not bad because it is men's duty to protect women and children but when we look at Sakura, she is just simply pathetic. She needs protection all the time, she cries all the time, she just goes into fight without any thinking, she does not have any strategy at all. Look at the scene with Madara. She just rushed at him without even thinking, she got stabbed, could not do anything, she had to be saved by Naruto and then she was thinking about her Sasuke-kun not noticing her. Her whole act was selfish and pathetic. An act of a stereotypical woman and do you think that it is not noticed by others especially male characters? It is e.g. Sakura again wanted to rush into fight and Kakashi stopped her and said to her to not go unless she has a plan and of course she has not. Everyone sees how weak and stupid she is.
Even as an adult ninja woman while fighting Shin in Gaiden, she had to be saved again. She just rushes into the fight, she punches without any thinking and then she becomes tired. This is her whole ''strategy'' and behaviour. Some will say ''but Madara noticed her mark'' and so what? It was during a War, of course he would notice something like that. It even more shows that Uchihas look at skills and even if he has seen the mark he has also seen how weak and stupid she is. If he told Tsunade, who is a great example of a great ninja woman, that she is weak then I cannot image what he thought about Sakura. Now about Sakura saving Sasuke from other dimension and he catching her. My question again, so what? Do you think that one act of doing something by her can compensate for everything that she is? Sasuke does not consider this act like absolute help from her. When he caught her it was his small way of saying thank you but then Kishi pulls this troll where Sasuke thanks her jacket for saving him. Sasuke does not even consider her help like 100% from her. In his mind it is 50/50. How romantic.
Sasuke knows what a person Sakura is and later he is harsh towards her all the time especially when she again confessed her selfish love for him. I also want to add something about her appearance because I feel that I will get an anon response for calling Sakura ugly. It is canonical that she is not pretty, sweet or cute girl in Naruto world. Sai told her that she is ugly in her face, Naruto never defended or reacted when someone insulted Sakura's looks and when a child such as Konohamaru tells her that she is not pretty then she is not. Trust me kids are brutally honest. Compare Sakura to women from Uchiha clan, she is just average. I like Sarada but she is not that pretty either and is it a coincidence that we have an average-looking Uchiha woman that is Sakura's daughter? Nothing would even change if Sakura was pretty because Sasuke and Uchihas do not give a second thought about looks when you are pathetic. Lastly, Sakura is giving masculine vibe by loving Sasuke only by his looks. The irony.

Hatake Kakashi
Kakashi is known for being a pretty cool and aloof kind of guy, but in one of the first few chapters we get this gem.
I'm unsure if this is Anime only or appears in the Manga as well, but either way I love me a dorky man (Seriously, i do. I married a punny man, this is right up my ally)
2) When Kakashi noticed Sasuke freaking out in the Land of Waves arc he takes a moment to assure his student that he'll do everything in his power to protect them, including dying if he has to. It's not a necessary thing to say, but Kakashi understands that his kids have been put on a mission way over their heads and they need support. In this instance, he supports Sasuke with a verbal promise. Later on in the same mission, after Zabuza and Haku's death, he supports Naruto by allowing his student to cling to him (holding onto his pant leg) and by supporting him when he calls Zabuza and Haku 'pretty cool'.
3) Just his general cool attitude towards Gai. Kakashi's never closed off to his friend, but he acts relaxed, and in their first few scenes together he can be seen asking Gai to repeat himself, to which Gai responds by talking about how 'cool' Kakashi is. I love this because up until this point, we've seen Kakashi as hyper-aware and although he's aloof he always seems to know what's going on around him. Then in comes Gai and he can play the 'sorry I wasn't paying attention' Card and I personally love that for him.
4) Teaching Sakura the Qi release technique. I know it's off-screen and only mentioned when she uses it, but I love that Kakashi found a moment to teach Sakura something that he didn't teach either of the boys. It highlights his ability to see potential in his students and to teach them useful things (even off screen) that they can make use of later.
5) How he protects his student. whether it's protecting Sasuke from Orochimaru by placing himself between them, protecting Sakura from enemy shinobi by killing them in one easy hit, or even guarding his friend's students as he does when Kakazu tries to attack Ino-Shika-Cho. I love that Kakashi's 'I will protect my precious people' isn't just words. that he really holds true to that and actually does everything he can to try and protect them. I love that he turns and walks away from Tsunade while she's demanding he go on a mission because he needs to go after Naruto and Sasuke. He needs to protect them. I love that he outright ignores Hiruzen's plan to send a letter to Danzo because he knows Tenzo is in danger, and instead he heads into root without any backup and only a plan to rescue someone he calls a friend. I especially love that through all of this, with him always being protective of others, Kakashi fights back-to-back with Gai and allows Gai to protect him. He won't accept protection from his students as a rule, or even from any of his other comrades that we see, but when he's fighting with Gai it's equal forces of protection/willingness to be protected. It's such a nice balance that I love to see.
6) I love that he recognizes Sai needs someone to reach out to him, and he offers that support and encouragement that Sai really hasn't heard from anyone else. and he does it in such a simple way. By saying 'I believe in you' and allowing Sai to hear that he is trusted. That he's relied on.
7) I adore that after years of being a good soldier and even giving up even more of his time to be a Hokage, Kakashi finally gets to just be a dork. I enjoy that he goes on Vacation with Gai and acts like a child. That he takes part in their usual competitions with the same energy (just shown in a much different way) as Gai, and he gets upset when Gai won't admit that he won their game of ping pong, showing that he really does care about their competitions and that he does like winning.
8) I love that he's gentle, even when he doesn't really have time to be. A great example of this is when he finds the Konoha boys laying asleep on the road (after Sakura knocked them out) and he takes a few moments to put them off to the side where they can be more comfortable and just a bit safer. I love that he apologized to them for not sticking around or helping more because he really did have to go, but he still found time to at least make sure they weren't laying in the middle of the dang road.
9. Kamuing away Diedra’s arm. A small moment but a brilliant way to introduce Kamui into the world. I love how Kakashi thinks in this scenario. ‘I have a problem. How do i solve this problem? I know! I’ll rip off his arm!’ Brilliant, beautiful, perfection.
10. (Book only) ramming his face into Gai’s ass in Kakashi Hidan. This poor man has suffered so much and now he must suffer me laughing his ass off. Also, talking up Gai before he swoops in to rescue him and then getting annoyed when Gai starts talking about how he understands what it’s like to have a ‘genius rival’. He was so done and i want to hug him. Actually most of that book has perfect moments. Both of his books did i NEED MORE
11. (Kakashi retsuden) ‘i’m not going to apologize for hiding who i am’ ya? And you’re gonna troll your little fanboy by sending him a book with your face on it as the big admission that yes, you are in fact the Sixth Hokage he looks up to? I love you you shit.
12: lamenting Redaku not having an Onsen because he just wants to soak in the nice warm water. Let my man rest.
13. Accidentally letting his cloth’s brush against the tent and thus waking up all the shinobi he hasn’t already knocked out, all because he got distracted thinking of a proud Iruka.
14: (anime only) forgetting he’s disguised as Sukea and almost giving himself away because Houki gushed about how cool he thinks Lord Sixth is.
15. Everything about kid Kakashi. Arrogance, brattiness, the full energy of an angry kid who has already lost so much and is trying so hard to protect himself from more hurt (only to fail because he genuinely cares). Man, i just want to give him a hug.
16. His arrogance. It Definitely eases a bit as he gets older, but once in a while that arrogance and confidence really shines through and i love it. Example: when he called 50 jonin rank shinobi ‘fifty nobodies’ because they posed absolutely no threat to him. Or how he confidently told Naruto he hadn’t even used his Mangekyo Sharingan against Kakazu because he didn’t feel the threat was big enough for that (straight shot to Kakazu’s pride if he’d been alive to hear that)
17: (Anime only) how he jumped over his desk to grab Iruka’s hand’s when Iruka’s words helped him realize a solution to his problem. This was a KakaIru’s dream moment and just adorable as all heck!
18: how just… dramatic he can be. Need to make an entrance into the chunin exam’s with Sasuke? A sudden appearance with leaves floating around them should do it! Want the enemy to believe they killed you? Throw your whole damned body into it my man or it’s simply not believable. Like seriously, he did not need to be this dramatic with his ‘death’ in the land of waves arc. It was over the top and i love it.
19: (anime only) cutting lightning specificlly to save Gai. It wasb’t a test of strength or ability. Kakashi saw danger and faced down a lightning bolt to protect Gai. One of his precious people. It’s a really sweet moment of him admitting to himself that he cares about Gai and wants to keep him safe, and it’s bad ass to see him slice lighting with his chidori,
20: stopping Kakazu’s lightning with just his hands to protect Team Ten. Shikamaru, Choji and Ino were surprised by Kakashi’s decision to place himself between them and Kakazu’s attack and who can blame them? Man faced a lightning attack head on and stopped it using only his hands. No jutsu’s, no fancy last second plan. Just his hands. It was awesome.
I love a lot about Kakashi, but these are some of my favorite things. Through all of his faults and mistakes, he really is just trying. He wants to be kind, he wants to help, and he knows he's limited in what he can do but damn it he's still going to do his best.

probably already liked you when you were kids
“i’m gonna be your omega one day, believe it”
when he’s not training to be hokage one day, he’s trying to get you to notice him
ofc you notice him, how could you not
he smells like very sugary lemon candy??
you become friends first and stay close friends for a few years
you only start dating when you’re older (shippuden era)
tbh, most people already thought you were dating before that
naruto doesn’t leave the house without being scented
if you’re still asleep when he has to leave, he will wake you up to scent him
naruto has a lot of alpha friends, so it’s important to him that your scent is on him to avoid smelling of any of his alpha friends later on
get’s very mopey if you smell like another omega
refuses to cuddle with you
but not for long bc he does really love those cuddles
you know how his jacket is kinda like a turtleneck?
when you finally mark him, he wears his jacket partially unzipped for weeks to show off his neck
we all know he loves missions
however, he hates that it means being away from you
if you’re a ninja too, he’ll beg tsunade to send you with them
she usually says no, none of the other shinobi take their mates with them either
if she does agree, he is literally bouncing to you to tell you
now sometimes this makes his performance during missions better because he wants to show off in front of you
let you know what an amazing omega you have
but sometimes, most of the time, he gets too distracted by your presence
also if you’re the one going on a mission, he usually sneaks along
no one can stop him
he’ll leave a shadow clone behind too so it takes a while for others in the village to catch on
if you’re a civilian, he won’t want you on the missions with him because he’s too afraid of you getting hurt (if you’re a ninja, he’s a lil afraid of this too but you’re his alpha, he trusts in your abilities to protect yourself)
so he has you scent him and a few of his things to make it a little easier on him
expect a whole day of just cuddles when he’s back

Talk about Danzo pls teehee >:3
shimura danzo: ✨ the greatest villain who never got a therapy talk from naruto because he was sasuke's to kill ✨
ground rules:
"canon" is whatever. some anime fillers (like kakashi in anbu) are widely accepted as canon. there are also novels and later reveals i don't care about
nothing about the uchiha massacre makes sense because it's full of retcons. we could probably have several separate conversations despite everyone being armed with "sources". i'm not talking about it.
i shall not talk about a certain character who fills me with rage. you can guess who it is by their peculiar absence in this discussion
danzo didn't exist in part one of naruto. many important things weren't thought out (jinchuriki as a concept, most akatsuki members) which i don't blame kishimoto for. naruto is a serialized shonen manga after all. where was he during the konoha crush? probably sitting underground and weathering the metaphorical storm. the raikage's accusation that danzo was in kahoots with orochimaru and planned the crush together is very conspiracy-brained. there are so many reasons why it's just wild... why wasn't he scrambling for the hokage seat after hiruzen kicked the bucket? because he didn't exist. next question.
he was made as a foil to hiruzen, long after hiruzen left the story by getting shinigami'd. no, they weren't teammates, you're remembering that wrong. they were just rivals. tobirama's team had sarutobi hiruzen, mitokado homura & utatane koharu (aka the two old people who keep badgering tsunade). they happened to be on the same mission when tobirama gave up on democracy & got killed by a furry. their relationship is mainly hiruzen letting danzo get away with stuff. (the assassination attempt is anime-only.) here comes the problem: part one hiruzen is styled as a kind, wise, universally beloved grandpa who loves everyone in his village. part two is a failure who couldn't even take care of naruto the boy. i call this the dumbledore effect. the further and more serious you go, the more sinister this old figure becomes. is he manipulating our young hero? why didn't he stop this or that horrible thing he had to have known about? ...we were talking about danzo, right? well his bestie hiruzen let him have a whole anbu branch (with an evil underground lair). root also doesn't make much sense. another rant incoming? if your morally corrupt friend swears that his secret personal army is totally disbanded, you're an idiot for trusting him. don't blame danzo for root without dragging hiruzen to hell with him. oh wait. [different self-destruct seal activates] they won't be together even in hell!
i'm running out of breath but trust me, there's so much more 🔥🔥🔥 i just have to put it in readable sentences.
last time on danzo hour (previous post in the tag)
next time on danzo hour(s):
double standards
weaponized body parts and related ethics
shonen logic in ninja world

Do ppl genuinely believe gaara has a crush on naruto? I thought it was a joke 😭 the jokes like gaara hating sasuke are funny but they're far from true considering in canon he cried for sasuke and tried to tell him to return. He told naruto later on that sasuke's not planning on coming back bc it was true, not bc he's jealous or some shit 💀 it was naruto who got upset at that and shoved his hand away, and also bc gaara made it clear that if in the war sasuke is on the enemy team then he won't hold back and will go for the kill. He's just another person who doesn't care about sasuke anymore which is why naruto got mad. To me only naruto and sasuke being romantically in love makes any sense, when ppl bring in not only gaara but even shikamaru, neji, Lee, sai it just seem like a joke bc wtf? Most of those ppl are pretty openly straight anyway. It seems like only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys. Anyway that went sorta off topic but yeah I don't think gaara's actually in love. Or if he is, he's not the jealous type bc I admit if he was a girl, even dudebros might see it with him. It's just that naruto has it part of his character that everyone worships him sooner or later. Whenever he changes someone they become his fan and act like he's God. Gaara, neji, shikamaru, pain, obito, tsunade. Sasuke's the only special one bc their relationship is actually different and special. But even for him sometimes some sns fans reduce him to a naruto worshipper in sns fics. Or they talk about the "i'm in naruto's world, I'm blessed to exist" quote that seems an awful lot like idol worship. I hate when they reduce sasuke and his relationship to naruto to that, that's hinata's job, to be naruto's personal slave, not sasuke. And if you remember this while analyzing gaara he just seems like yet another character that got reduced to a naruto dick sucker, that's all.
Gaara and Sai openly straight Nonee? xD I understand your points, but I do think you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice if you think Gaara is just a... *checks* 👀... “Naruto dick sucker”...
... kinda falls short, no? Their bond is distinct, and categorizing it as similar to Naruto's other connections, especially when most are comrades at best. Villagers conditionally acknowledge Naruto because they see him as useful until he proves otherwise, and that includes the majority of his... friends. Naruto said it himself, he doesn’t trust them (I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THIS REGARDING 'HOPE' TBH I’LL FINISH THAT DRAFT SOON FINALLY LOL) This lack of trust is evident again during his fight with Kurama.
With Gaara, it is very uniquely a bond of their own regardless whether someone believes it is romantic or not and it doesn’t really have anything to do with Sasuke, so I’m not sure how to feel about a comparison?
However, Naruto's connection with Gaara does share some similarities with his bond with Sasuke; hurting for Gaara’s pain because he understood it as fellow Jinchuuriki, or hurting for Sasuke’s pain and burdens but going on a journey because he wanted to understand (‘we could’ve been in each other’s shoes, Sasuke’). These bonds also relate to the system itself, which is closely interlinked. Hence, Sasuke shouting at Naruto for not understanding in VotE1. But it's not the same thing, and that's perhaps one of the most significant differences between Naruto's bonds with Sasuke and Gaara, don't you think? The contrasting pain (regarding that understanding) he felt played a crucial role in his learning process. "I felt less pain when I escaped loneliness, but Gaara was lonelier for longer and Sasuke has to live with this burden... which is unbearable, what can I do?" Collaboration only becomes possible when you can truly understand one another. The same was seen during the Shinobi War when they had to unite as a single alliance. Gaara references this several times.
That understanding transcends national borders, and it's an integral part of Naruto's Ninja Way. It's also a way to demonstrate that mutual understanding could potentially unite the Nations, but that's a different topic. What remains consistent is Naruto's anger towards the entire system when it becomes personal and disregarding what is seen as 'appropriate Shinobi behavior'. (Lmao not those anti-Naruto post claiming Naruto was fine with everything altogether 😭 ffs, delete.)
Of course Naruto’s emotions played a huge part in him going feral. It was primarily triggered by Gaara's death, but even before that Kurama's Chakra was slipping through as he was learning about himself, Jinchuuriki and discovering new things that Konoha, and even Jiraiya, whom he trained with for years, had never shared with him. Our boy was seriously going through it, but this drive wasn’t just him showing Shonen Hero behavior to ‘stop the bad guys from gaining power’ or grieving a friends’ death at that moment even.
Naruto had every right to be furious. This is the same anger that says, 'If you Shinobi of the Leaf hadn't placed a monster in me,' and 'Did any of you even try to ask ME how I felt?!!' But, of course, Naruto repressed his anger and avoided empathizing with himself. However, this anger still simmers beneath the surface in the story. (Sakura's display of compassion for Naruto's situation after realizing he could die was a good moment tbh, I liked it even if Naruto shoved it aside. Kinda like he was saying they could never understand as Sasuke said to him, except Naruto sorta laughs it off and shows confidence instead. Anw, Sakura's best moments are in this arc, and it has nothing to do with the Sasori fight.)
But why doesn't Naruto express anger for himself?
Because, in this case, he carries a sense of guilt towards Gaara. He heard Gaara express how he desperately searched for a reason to live, feeling like a 'relic of the past that people wanted to get rid of'—unwanted and alone. This led Gaara to decide to care only for himself and kill everyone else. While Naruto could empathize with Gaara due to the shared pain stemming from similar situations, he also understood that their circumstances were entirely different at the time he met him. Naruto compared his own situation with Gaara's, stating that 'everyone' else had saved him from a dark and lonely hell, lumping the village together to contrast it with Gaara, who had no one still.
Naruto eventually said that Iruka and Sasuke were the ones who truly saved him after learning about different types of bonds and gaining a better understanding. However, the idea of being supported by so many people, (conditional or not) in contrast to Gaara, tore Naruto apart because he knows how unbearable it is to live that way. The Gaara he encountered during the exams represented Naruto's greatest fear for himself, and he began to feel guilty for having people around him, or even those who 'worship' him, as he felt it was unfair to Gaara. Despite his repressed emotions, Itachi's 'fear-inspiring Genjutsu' exposed Naruto's feelings and fears.
Naruto's efforts didn't just lead to a strong friendship; they also provided Gaara with hope. In this story, 'Hope' is perhaps the most important theme, a reason to live that is much more bearable. I wouldn't reduce all of this to Gaara merely 'worshipping' Naruto. Such analysis seems to miss the nuances of their complex bond regardless.
Naruto's sharing of joy also reflects his 'mysterious power.' He had mixed feelings about seeing Gaara advance so quickly as Kazekage but also genuinely felt happy for him. I genuinely believe that dismissing the Naruto-Gaara dynamic as mere 'worship' overlooks the significant impact Naruto had on Gaara and those around them. Which was extremely important to the story itself. I love the bond between Naruto and Gaara, but acknowledge it really isn't the same as the one with Sasuke. But considering their relationship, it's not surprising that Gaara might have a little crush on Naruto. However, it's not essential to insist on finding canonical evidence for this imo. While it's a plausible interpretation, I don't think that Gaara's feelings for Naruto are taken too seriously by most fans? Furthermore, Gaara's seeming 'pettiness' regarding Sasuke or Naruto's prioritization of him above others is not something anyone understood. The general consensus "for Naruto's sake" was that “Sasuke causes Naruto pain” (more like, Sasuke’s pain hurts Naruto because he loves him) so of course, Gaara's feelings were conflicted by his duty (getting rid of a 'criminal') and his friendship with Naruto (who will fight against such Shinobi duties because feelings are involved and they'll never be able to truly become emotionless tools-). Sasuke had attacked the summit after all, usually an immediate death sentence regardless of reason. Gaara is Naruto’s friend, it would be weird if he didn’t want to protect Naruto in return even against Sasuke, it's just that Naruto didn't see it the same way as everyone around him. THAT is frustrating!! Remember he told Naruto to really think about his friendship with Sasuke and what it meant? 👀 Like, "Naruto, you really want to do this? We are friends too, yeah? Doesn’t he cause you pain? Look at you... think about this carefully, kinda sus tbh. What’s this meaaann? I give my life for you, I will fight for you but what we do now huh?" Etc-
In the end, Naruto is the protagonist of a Shonen story, serving as a measuring device to gauge the significance of events in the narrative. (This role is largely shared with Sasuke though). Naruto provides the reference point for understanding the story's relationships. The core message, typically related to positive change as defined by Naruto/the main character, is a fundamental aspect of these stories. What truly matters is why something is significant in the story and what it means to the characters. His bond with Gaara a huge part of it. And to a degree the others as well because that's kind of the point.... And it's not for nothing we haven't seen the same development with the villagers as a whole because it wasn't important to the story.... yet. (Should've been solved before he became Hokage though 😂 "Naruto-the-village-is-family-I-guess-cuz-former-hokage-said-so-Uzumaki." Bro.)
"only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys."
Ngl, I can't disagree with this one. Idk why the Naruto-bl-harem is so popular? And ok, have them all worship Naruto for all I care, but why is he always so....... dainty. Don't mind me some uwu-Naruto, he's cute alright, but.... no 😭 I don't even have words.
"Sasuke's the only special one bc their relationship is actually different and special. But even for him sometimes some sns fans reduce him to a naruto worshipper in sns fics."
I mean... to a certain degree. Define worshipping 👀 from what I can read about the true definition, their 'worshipping' is pretty mutual, but the difference lies in the foundation and the fact that it is unconditional. I know what you mean though, the Sasuke guilt tripping is real and a bit painful. Like? Isn't that Esaka's job?
"Or they talk about the "i'm in naruto's world, I'm blessed to exist" quote that seems an awful lot like idol worship."
UGH! 😓 This stupid non-canon quote. Did everyone forget who wrote this novel about Sasuke 'atoning for his sins'??? 😭 SPOILER: NOT KISHIMOTO. (Kinda want to read it though to fact-check some things.) There might be some truth in the words now that I have spent many months thinking about the blank period... but so does Naruto not want to live without Sasuke. As much as their world includes the other, they are still their own characters with their own goals in a Shinobi world with a system that would never allow them to truly live in each others' worlds fully anyway gerigjekrg3rhiqjkhmregqerigkjqrg;-; ok bye.

fuck it we ball. woe team shisui be upon ye
returning to this old flame is. wild.
tae and shisui were put on a genin team with someone else from the academy, but they quit a few months in (times of war were tough on a kid) and rio was assigned to them instead; the first two are around the same age, rio's a couple years older
i'll have a proper design for rio eventually, this is more or less just a placeholder for me to see if i could still draw in the naruto style - rio is also their team's medic
if rewatching this show has taught me anything it's that small children can be SO nasty for no discernable reason
tae had a lot of pressure on his shoulders to live up to his old man's name, people telling him from birth that he was gifted or spoiled or never did enough so eventually he just stopped putting in the effort until his team gave him the confidence to try again - for himself rather than anyone else
tae was a gloomy little ghost in the academy; he'd keep to himself a lot, freaking out some of his peers with eyes a little too wide and an unwillingness to be vocal unless it suited him, a complete contrast to his cheerful "normal" twin brother
even though it's widespread and pretty vital, there was, and to some degree is, a stigma that healing jutsu are reserved for mostly women, partially because tsunade was a big proponent for getting medics put on four man teams as a necessity (even though dan was right there with her), so growing up rio caught a lot of flak for it even though it wasn't a particularly new practice by then
the exclusion shisui faced was a lot more subtle and had less to do with his demeanor or personal choices, rather the fact of who he was to begin with - no matter how kind or cheerful shisui was, there'd always be a trail of hushed whispers talking about how he was so pleasant despite being an uchiha, or maybe rumors that he was some meanspirited asshole all along
some folks kept up the niceties, others didn't hide their wariness, but was was clear from the start was this undercurrent of distrust between konoha and uchiha clan that went both ways
tae never bothered with rumors (unless it was to pick a fight with whoever was spreading them about his friend) and rio was a refugee taken from outside the village unaware and indifferent to their politics - uchiha were usually assigned to teams of other uchiha upon request, but shisui could really feel at home with these two after they all got over the initial awkwardness of having to trust someone new
their sensei (not pictured) was a huge factor in these kids getting along at first, he seemed to genuinely love them up until the mission where he was found guilty of treason - a small part of them still wants to believe he actually cared for them (he did, he really really did) but at the end of the day their teacher's hatred for konoha was more important
they were given a replacement leader after that, a man who was less put together but tried hard to teach and nurture all the same
they had a solid handful of years together before the coup, after that everything sort of fell apart - shisui was gone, danzo had tae "interrogated" for potential associations with the uchiha which shut him down emotionally, and after a mission gone awry that resulted in rio getting held captive by enemy nin for a week and heavily tortured, they went on an indefinite hiatus from shinobi duty

Hi, I love your headcanons about the world of Naruto. You explore the world more than the manga itself :))
I wanted to know what you think this scenario would be like: a girl who is Tobirama's granddaughter, and who at the same time, is Orochimaru's illegitimate daughter,
But she wouldn't know that, so she was raised in Konoha away from him, and forced to run the Senju clan on her own, since Tsunade is away... I know it sounds weird, but I love the potential drama
Hi dear, thank you so much for your sweet words! For this one, my take might not be what one might expect.
Tobirama's reaction to his granddaughter being Orochimaru's illegitimate daughter
If he found out that this girl is related to one of the biggest enemies to his village, Tobirama would definitely lose his marbles. To him, the village matters more than anything else, and even if he doesn't want to admit it, he is gonna start resenting his granddaughter, but even moreso, his daughter. It wouldn't even really matter that his daughter didn't even know that Orochimaru was gonna betray the hidden leaf later on, he would have trouble keeping these things seperate.
Orochimaru's reaction to his illegitimate daughter
If Orochimaru didn't know about her existence before and only found out about it later he... kinda wouldn't really care? It'd surprise him a little for sure, but he wouldn't be very shocked about it. The fact that she is Tobirama's granddaughter would be mildly amusing to him; he'd think of it as an interesting coincidence, especially because his and Tobirama's methods aren't so different from one another, since they both see themelves as intellectuals (by using intellectualism and 'science' to satisfy selfish and/or illegitimate desires but we don't talk about that) and even Tobirama's prejudice and Orochimaru's fetishization of the Uchiha are two sides of the same coin.
Although I hate Burrito and don't consider it canon, I agree with the fact that Orochimaru would make at least a decent father.
Bonus: Hiruzen's reaction to Orochimaru's illegitimate daughter
He would definitely be surprised at this new information. He trusts that woman very much and he would try to convince her to stay by the side of Konoha and abandon any attachment she has to her father.

Naruto is a bad ninja. That's like baby’s first Naruto criticism. This is supposed to be a manga about ninja, yet its main character is a loudmouth clad in bright orange who has never even heard of the word subtlety. There are even large stretches of the manga where he is one of the weakest main characters, so he’s even failing at the manga’s specific definition of a ninja. He is just horrible at it. But one thing that I never hear a lot of people mention is that Naruto is a bad ninja by design, he needs to be.
The Land of Waves Arc serves two main functions. The first is easing the reader or viewer into the world of shinobi on a very “scientific” level. You learn what chakra is, what the three main types of jutsu are, what chakra control is, how ninja rank works, what kekkei genkai is and so on and so forth. Everything that would be in a textbook to be studied by entry level ninja is in this arc. The second function is a look into the world of shinobi on a more “ideological” level in the second half. Ninja take on jobs, but rarely do they take on jobs for other ninja. They mainly take on jobs for local feudal lords or crime lords who wish to use these strengths for political purposes. In this way, Naruto’s ninja are sorta like mercenaries. Ninja are expected to kill the people who they have culture and shared experiences with for the sake of people who really couldn't care less about them. Their intelligence is their most valued aspect and emotions can compromise that so a trained ninja can’t even cry. As Zabuza says, a ninja is just a tool to be used by their employer and anyone who cannot do that, is a bad ninja.
One of the most genius things about this arc is that almost every named ninja we see ends up breaking a vital rule of the ninja code. Haku and Sasuke sacrifice their lives for loved ones, compromising their mission in the process while Sakura, Naruto and Zabuza are reduced to blubbering crying messes by the end. They all failed at being ninja because to be a ninja is to cast away your humanity, something that isn’t really possible. By the end of the first arc, the series has planted the idea that being a ninja isn’t something to be desired. Ninjutsu and throwing stars are cool, but this ideal of a “real” ninja is so cynical and cold that anyone who could pull it off perfectly would be as miserable as they are abhorrent. Trust me, we’ll get back into that. The arc ends with Naruto deciding that he’ll find his own ninja way. A way to be a ninja that is not synonymous with pain and cruelty.
Following the Land of Waves we go to the Chunin Exams, the stock tournament arc of the series. One thing that sets Naruto’s tournament arc apart from a more standard one is that winning isn’t the primary goal. Anyone who has watched the show or read the manga might say “Of course winning isn’t the primary goal, Shikamaru lost, yet was the only Konoha genin to promote”, but becoming Chunin isn’t even the main goal of the Chunin exams. The main goal of the Chunin Exams is to show off a nation’s talent, both as an advertisement to would-be employers and as a flex to rival villages to show what they have in store for them if they try to start a war. It was created as a form of deterrence, a ninja equivalent to broadcasting a video of your nation’s rocket capabilities. Ironically, this “mock war” ends up turning into a real war as Orochimaru uses it as a smoke screen for his real invasion. Naruto comes into the exams pretty unprepared as a fighter, but very prepared emotionally. He speaks to the demons inside of Neji and Gaara, desperately wanting to ease the pain that they’re going through. He can’t stand the idea of losing them, just like he lost haku so he talks to them like they’re people and not weapons and it resonates. The two would end up becoming lifelong friends with Naruto as a result and it had jack shit to do with his skill as a ninja. He succeeded with them because he was a person to them.
The Search for Tsunade arc is not too important for this analysis, but does introduce an idea that will become important later where Jiraiya purports that a real ninja is “one who endures”. This isn’t just fancy waffling but how the literal kanji for the word “ninja” can be broken down. That’s why, in Jiraiya’s eyes, being a ninja is not about being the most efficient or knowing the most jutsu. It’s about never giving up even when everyone else wants you to. It is what he has done his entire life and what he teaches Naruto to do. However, this is far from the only interpretation of “one who endures”. Sasuke’s flashbacks of how he remembers Itachi is massively important to our understanding of ninja because Itachi is the perfect ninja. Remember that “One Who Endures” thing? Yeah, Itachi takes that to the extreme because he thinks that it is a viable path for a shinobi to be hated by all. If that lets them do their job to the best of their ability, so be it. That’s why he handles the Uchiha coup like he does. He becomes hated by his entire village, the entire world and hated most of all by the person he loved the most. But Itachi got his job done. He did it so well that no one ever knew he was doing a job at all.
If Itachi is what lies at the end of all shinobi, if all of them got to be "perfect", we’d have entire clans and communities getting slaughtered by well meaning people just wishing to prolong the existence of the village by a couple of years. Itachi’s partner Kisame has a very similar backstory. In fact, you could argue that all of the Akatsuki are perfect shinobi. All young prodigies who were allowed to exercise cruelty because that’s what their job called for and simply got cut off by the people who weren’t able to handle the monsters that they created. It’s no coincidence that this group of ninja who were all able to be better ninja at the cost of their humanity all show some form of body horror or inhumanity in their design.
This pertains most to Sasori, one of the main villains of the Kazekage Rescue Arc. Sasori was clearly traumatized but no one in the sand cared because he was able to channel that trauma into his incredible skill with puppet ninjutsu. And then when he became more and more broken over time, creating human puppets and assassinating Kazekage, they tried to act as if they had no hand in that. However, just like Zabuza and Gaara before him, Sasori could not fully discard his humanity. He tried to replace so much of his human body with puppetry but he was never able to get rid of his heart, poetically. The same goes for Sai in the next arc, who has been trained from birth to kill off all individuality. Even before his big turn, Sai constantly laments over the fact that despite trying so hard, he can never get anyone to truly like him. It’s natural that as humans we crave connection and want to love. The more you try to act like this is a lie, the more you end up like a Sai. And no one likes Sai.
A similarly unlikable character would be Kakashi during the events of Kakashi Gaiden. Another ninja capable of putting the job above all his personal connections and he constantly disrespects his friends and own father. Sakumo Hatake was incredibly strong, but far from the perfect ninja I’ve been describing. He decided to abandon a mission partway, which saved his allies but inconvenienced his employer. The derision he faced was enough for him to commit suicide. In Kakashi’s eyes, his father was a coward, but to Kakashi’s best friend Obito? Sakumo was a hero. He might have been a bad ninja, but if caring about people you love makes you a bad ninja, then good ninja do not need to exist. Obito holds this opinion not as a villain, but as a rather heroic child with shocking similarities to Naruto. When he later fights Naruto, Naruto ends up appealing to Obito by empathizing with his beliefs about the ninja world. It sucks! His best friend’s life was ruined by a “perfect” ninja, he spent his entire life being hated and used because the ninja code for Jinchuriki was to roll them out as weapons during war time and then shamefully hide them during peacetime. Naruto knows why Obito would want to tear it down because he also wants to. They just have differing methods of how to.
The same goes for Sasuke when he rises up to become the final villain of the series. Sasuke recognizes the poison on the ninja world, what it does to people like him, his brother his best friend, Hashirama and Madara, every ninja in existence. That is why he wishes to forge a new path, killing off the ruling class and uniting all against him. It’s essentially what Itachi did, but on a global scale. Sasuke’s plan is bad and fails because it relies on embracing a ninja truth and the antithesis of the series - severing one’s bonds. Every single arc time and time again we come to learn that this idea of “severing bonds” does not work, it cannot work. The pit of loneliness you’re left in will kill you or warp you to a point where you’re no longer human. Naruto’s answer is forming an unbreakable bond between all people. Disrespecting and blurring the artificial line between class, between village, between civilian and ninja. The Great Naruto Bridge from the Land of Waves is a little cheesy, but emblematic of his final role in the story. Through his kindness he becomes able to link all together and he didn’t do this by being a good ninja. He did it by being a pretty bad one.

it’s always been you.
sasuke x f!reader
warnings: gore/violence, angst, canon-divergent (instead of sasuke leaving he just disappeared; the reader takes the place of sakura but with different jutsus/skills. i also diverged from the original story of the fairytale a bit)
notes: i recently watched the movie belle (i highly recommend it!) and i absolutely fell in love with it. i thought sasuke would be a perfect fit for a beauty and the beast retelling, so i took a few liberties with the source material. enjoy!
You were confident you’d never been more anxious in your entire life. Even your first mission felt like a walk in the park compared to the fear that currently had a vice grip on your entire body. Your heart pounded in your ears so loud you doubted you’d even be able to hear your name get called. Your chest hurt with such a ferocity that it felt as if something was slowly cracking your ribs one by one. Your hands shook so much you could barely pull the scroll out of your pocket to check (for the fifth time) if you were in the right place at the right time.
There had to have been some kind of mistake, you thought to yourself, heart leaping into your throat at the sight of Shizune, I’m nowhere near strong enough to be going on a mission like this.
“I’m glad you could make it here on such short notice, (Name). I know this is all a bit sudden, but I figured you were the best person to take on a mission like this.”
All you could do was bow and utter a meek, “Of course, m’lady.”
“Let’s get down to business then. We’ve been fielding more and more complaints about people on the outskirts of the village seeing some sort of monster moving through the trees at all hours of the day. A few brave—in my opinion stupid—souls have tried to catch it, but not a single one has even gotten close.”
“Is that where I come in?” You asked timidly.
The Hokage nodded. “I need you to patrol the outskirts and see if you can catch a glimpse of what’s been terrorizing the villagers. You’ll be leaving with Sai and Naruto tomorrow afternoon. But (Name),” the Hokage beckoned you closer, lowering her voice slightly, “you have to promise me that you won’t tell Naruto why you’re in the village.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“I’ve told Sai the same. There’s a chance this could provide us with a lead on the disappearance of Sasuke Uchiha, and we can’t have Naruto, well...”
“Being Naruto?”
“Exactly. I trust you and Sai will be more than equipped to handle this, but still exercise caution and use your best discretion. We don’t want anyone else disappearing, got it?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good.” As you turned to leave, the Hokage spoke one last time. “Be careful, (Name). I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for.”
*
Lady Tsunade’s final words rang in your head every sleepless hour that led up to your departure. What you were looking for, what you had always been looking for, was Sasuke. You were the last person to see him before his untimely disappearance, and the weight of it had crushed you ever since. No matter how good of a kunoichi you’d become there was a constant grey cloud hanging over your head—the belief held among many of Konoha’s citizens that you were the reason its brightest star had suddenly disappeared from the sky.
You guessed it was why Lady Tsunade had given you the mission in the first place. She and Kakashi were the only people you had confided in about the relentless ridicule you’d been subjected to, so she knew better than anybody else how much it meant to you. It was why now, as you stood at the village gates waiting for Sai and Naruto to arrive, you felt as if the dango you’d eaten for lunch was about to rise back up from your turning stomach.
“Hey (Name)! What’s wrong? Aren’t you excited to be going on a mission? You talked to Granny Tsunade yesterday, right? How’d it go?”
All you could do was blink in response to Naruto’s rapid-fire questions. Your eyes drifted over to Sai, noting that he looked just as lost as you did.
“Good afternoon, (Name). You seem to be upset, is there something you would like to talk about?”
“No, but thank you Sai.” You gave him a kind smile. “We should probably get going so we can get settled before ni—“ Sai shot you a dangerous look. “Before it gets too dark out. We’ll need to find a place to stay for the night before we do anything else.”
“Good idea, (Name). You and I can take up the rear. Naruto, how about you take the lead and start heading toward the outskirts.”
“Who died and made you leader?” Naruto remarked with a huff, starting with a leisurely pace toward the treeline in the distance.
“Thank you, Sai,” You said once Naruto was out of earshot, beginning to bound through the trees a safe distance behind him.
“Lady Tsunade informed me of the importance of this mission to you. I don’t know what kind of bond you two shared, but it seems that he means a great deal to you. Am I correct?”
You nodded. “He was my best friend. I...”
You swallowed thickly, the words dying in your throat. He was more than just your best friend or your teammate or your partner. For all of your shyness and all of his aloofness, it seemed you two were the only ones who understood each other. When you were young you’d been a calm, united force against the arrogance and unpredictability of Naruto; as you’d grown older you each became powerful in your own rights, but had never entirely abandoned each other.
Until.
“You’re much quieter than usual. It said in my book that often times subjects like this can be difficult for people to discuss, even if many years have gone by since it happened. I hope that you’ll be able to find Sasuke again, (Name).”
The rest of the journey was spent in silence, your mind racing with thoughts. You had never entertained the thought of what might happen once you saw Sasuke again. It was always too painful, the wound always too fresh. Even now you felt a pain stab at your chest, but you couldn’t stop your mind from venturing to the thought. Would he remember you? Would he recognize you? You’d cut your hair since then, gained muscle, learned how to master the water change in chakra nature. You were different now, yet at the same time you felt as if you had remained exactly the same.
Even more concerning, would you recognize him? How much had he changed from the boy you’d promised to see tomorrow all those years ago? In your more heartbroken moments you allowed yourself to try and imagine what he would look like now, but what if you’d been wrong? What if he was unrecognizable? Would you still feel the same as you did then?
“Hey! (Name)!”
Naruto’s voice snapped you away from your doubts, bringing you to a screeching halt at the village’s outskirts. Sparse houses dotted the landscape, broken up by a few shops and restaurants that paled in comparison to the village proper. Lady Tsunade had arranged for the three of you to stay at a merchant’s house while he was off selling his products in another village, and Sai had been entrusted with the key a day prior to your departure.
He led the way to the modest home near the forest, which upon entering was found to be immaculately cleaned and finely furnished. Naruto immediately threw himself into a plush armchair, sitting back in it while Sai scolded him for disrespecting the house.
“I think I’ll go rest for a bit if you two don’t mind.” You exchanged a look with Sai, making sure that he understood you’d be sleeping before you departed that night to look for the monster.
“I’ll let you know when we’ve returned from talking to the villagers. Rest well.”
*
You awoke to Sai standing in your doorway, his hand raised and a smile on his face. “You’re awake.”
“Yeah, I managed to wake up on my own, but thank you for checking on me. Is Naruto asleep?”
“He just left for the bath house a few moments ago. I think I’ll join him. I wanted to stop by here and make sure you were awake first, and it seems you are, so I’ll be on my way. Please be careful while you’re patrolling, I wouldn’t want to get on Lady Tsunade’s bad side again.”
You smiled, thanking Sai once again before he left. You pulled on your shoes and gathered your weapons, taking a deep breath before setting out into the night. The wind that met your face upon opening the door was pleasantly cool, marking the beginning of the shift from summer to autumn. It helped to wake you as you disappeared into the forest, bounding between trees while keeping your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary.
After an hour of searching all you’d come up with was a spider in your shoe and an overwhelming sense of defeat. You slumped back in a tree and sighed, wondering if Lady Tsunade had sent you on little more than a wild goose chase. As you rested your mind drifted to Sasuke, thinking of the low-rank missions you had gone on together as genin. It had always been the two of you taking care of the actual objective while Naruto got distracted, same as it was with you and Sai now.
But you knew better than anyone all the ways that it hadn’t been the same for a single second since Sasuke had disappeared. In his wake he had left a gaping absence, a black hole that got closer to consuming you with every day that passed by. You hated it. Hated the feeling of waking up and knowing he wasn’t there, that for all you knew he would never be there again. Hated the way the villagers whispered about you, the way that they feared and reviled you. You who had shot their brightest star right from the sky. You who was no better than the Akatsuki members—why didn’t you just join them? It seemed you would fit right in.
Yet for some reason you dug your heels in and kept stubbornly defending the Leaf, taking any mission that someone was kind enough to give you. No matter how dangerous it was, you had to prove that you were better than the rumors. You had to prove that you were strong enough to get Sasuke back. It hadn’t been a mistake that you were the one left behind, you just had to bring him back and—
Something moved beyond the tree line.
You readied a kunai and slowly crept toward the shadowy figure in the distance. It was still for the time being, resting in what seemed to be a crouch. Its shape was unlike anything you’d seen before, the distance and darkness making it hard to pick out any specific details. Just as its image became clearer it stood up, quickly bounding toward a point in the distance.
You immediately followed after it, breaking out through the trees to follow it on foot. You tried to move as quietly as possible, hoping that you could stay far enough behind it that it wouldn’t sense your presence. You could now see that it had a pair of massive, grotesque wings that looked like a pair of fleshy claws. It was vaguely humanoid, with a mane of thick black hair that bounced against its back as it ran. You allowed yourself to draw closer to it, making sure your footsteps were quiet enough that it couldn’t hear you. A pang of fear pricked at your chest when you realized there was a chance whatever creature this was could sense chakra, but it was too late now to implement any sort of measures to conceal yourself.
You matched the creature’s every step, following the winding path it took with a grim determination. It was leading you further and further away from the village, which you could only guess was a deliberate move. The longer you travelled the more you could begin to see the landscape change, the empty grassland giving way to what appeared to be an abandoned village. The creature’s pace began to quicken, obviously drawing nearer to its destination. You took the opportunity to slow down and duck behind one of the empty houses, watching as the creature made its way to an expansive house in the distance.
As you drew nearer to the house you began to realize just how impressive it was. It was built much like any other house you’d seen in the Leaf, though far more elaborate and ornate. It was more well-maintained than it should have been, and as you passed through its front gate you were amazed to see that all the structures of it were seemingly intact.
You walked along the corridor enclosing the central garden, peering into any doors that had been left ajar as you searched for any sign of where the creature had disappeared to. You could sense a distant chakra somewhere in the house, but every time you got closer to it it seemed to disappear completely. You sighed and stopped for a moment, walking through an open door into a wide, empty room with a few dusty pillows and a shredded tatami mat in it. You took a seat in the least cobweb-covered area of the room, giving yourself a moment to rest and collect yourself before you continued the search.
Just as you lowered yourself to the ground you heard a loud crash from the other side of the house followed by a sharp yell. You ran toward the source of the noise, ducking into one of the rooms to hide as you looked for the source of the noise. You could hear the wood floors creaking, heavy footsteps drawing closer and closer to your location....
“YOU!” The growling roar of the creature’s voice filled your ears, making your instinctively shrink back and press your back into one of the corners of the room.
You hurled a kunai at its chest, watching in horror as the creature deflected it and appeared in front of you. It reached a hand out to wrap around your neck, slamming you back into the wall hard enough to make your teeth rattle. You tried desperately to cast a jutsu that could get you out of its grasp, but before long your vision began to ebb and all you could think to do was claw at its hands in an attempt to grant your survival.
“Why have you come here?” You continued to grasp at its hand. “Answer me!”
“You...you’re....”
Your head swam, blotches of blurred black occupying more and more of your vision. You stared into the eyes of the creature, knowing it would be your last sight before you inevitably died by its hands. And when you looked into them, a single thought occupied your mind:
Sasuke.
*
You could remember the first day you’d met Sasuke Uchiha like it was yesterday. Unlike the rest of the girls in Konoha you weren’t immediately enamored with him—in fact, you’d thought he was a bit of a stuck-up jerk. You were convinced the only reason he’d passed the tests was because of his natural talent, and you resented him for already being regarded as the best. You’d spent months training to pass the test, spending hours upon hours studying your family’s water-style jutsus in order to get a spot on a team.
It wasn’t until after your first mission that you realized you had more in common with Sasuke than you’d previously believed. On your journey back from the Land of Waves the two of you had gotten to know each other, and you felt hopeful that the two of you would become good friends.
As the months passed you and Sasuke began to forge a bond that would eventually lead to your current heartbreak. The more he opened up to you the more you fell for him, and the more you believed that you would have a real chance at a future with him.
You were so sure, in fact, that you had made a plan to ask him out on a date the day he’d disappeared. You’d worn your favorite dress and gotten a bouquet of the prettiest flowers you could find from Ino’s family’s shop, deciding you would ask him to meet you at Ichiraku so the two of you could talk.
You had waited there for two hours.
The shop owner had given you a free bowl of ramen when you had slumped into one of the seats, barely holding back tears as you picked your way through a bowl of tonkotsu. You wordlessly returned the flowers to Ino on your way back to your house, sniffling your way into your room without a word to anyone about what had happened. You didn’t know how long you laid in bed and cried, but to you it felt like an eternity.
The sun was beginning to set when you finally dragged yourself out of bed to look for him, hoping that maybe Kakashi had passed him by in the village at some point that day. When you asked him he awkwardly asked if you had been crying, abandoning his inquiry as soon as your lip began to quiver. He’d told you he’d help you look and you made him promise to keep it a secret from Naruto, following him into the village with a heaviness to your heart.
Four hours passed before you concluded that he was simply gone. The last thing you’d said to him was that you couldn’t wait to see him again. Now the words felt like knives buried in your chest, stabbing at you as you fell to your knees and sobbed at the village gates.
Weeks would pass without any sign of Sasuke, and each day that elapsed more rumors began to spread. You became something of a recluse, burying yourself in your training in order to fill the hole that had been left in your life. You’d barely even cared when Kakashi told you and Naruto you’d be getting a new partner—what did it matter, anyway? You liked Sai well enough but you had to agree with Naruto (something you would never admit to out loud), there was no replacing the empty space Sasuke’s disappearance had left behind.
And now here you were, staring into the same red eyes whose powers you had once resented, now buried within the face of something you had described as a monster.
You were surprised to awaken in one of the rooms of the house, watching as sunlight illuminated your surroundings. The door connecting the room to the rest of the house was firmly shut and sealed, and the windows all had paper bombs attached to them so they couldn’t open. Save for a few cobwebs in the corners the room was relatively clean, and it was furnished with a dilapidated futon and a few pillows. There was a small box tucked into the back right corner of the room which held two days’ worth of food and water and what you swore were the shedded scales of a snake.
Whatever—or whoever—that creature was had forced you to stay here, but it seemed as if it wasn’t doing it out of pure cruelty. You would formulate a way to escape nonetheless, hoping you’d be able to make it back to the village before anyone went looked for you. But perhaps even more importantly than that you couldn’t rest until you saw the creature again. Its eyes....you knew they were Sasuke’s. You didn’t want to think about how it had come to possess them, but you had to keep grasping onto the hope that he was still alive somewhere in there.
A day passed before you made a plan, and it wasn’t until night fell that you began to implement it. You were to cast your tidal wave jutsu directly at the door, hoping that one point-blank blast would be enough to break the wood and free you. You took your place at the opposite side of the room and began to cast it, stopping when you heard footsteps approaching. You lowered your hands and sunk down against the wall, sitting as if you’d been there for hours on end.
The door slowly slid open, and before the creature could stop you you cast the jutsu and bolted for the door. You ran as fast as you could down the corridor, taking a sharp left and landing yourself in the western edge of the house. There was a single room tucked into the corner that you took the opportunity to hide in, flinging the door open as the creature closed the distance between you.
The room seemed to be in a more severe state of disrepair than the rest of the house, and the sight of it gave you a pause that you knew would surely cost you your life. There was a single dust-covered window in the room whose light shone upon a single iridescent white snake, curled up and sleeping in the room’s center. You saw the shadow of the creature blot out the light, throwing a kunai at it to buy you enough time to escape.
You ran from the house and into the empty area that surrounded it, heart pounding in your chest as you made your way for the village. You could hear the distant bark of wild dogs growing closer, fear in your eyes as you watched them skid to a halt and surround you. You tried to distract them with shadow clones, but their ferocity made quick work of them. Your hands were shaking far too badly to properly cast any justus, and you could feel in your heart that this would be the place where your story finally came to a close.
You watched in fear as the creature grabbed you and pushed you behind it, taking a harsh slash to the chest from one of the dogs as its hands moved to cast a jutsu. Your heart lurched as you watched the creature cast a fireball, falling to its knees as the grass in front of it caught flame. With the last of its strength the creature grabbed you and gave its fleshy wings a flap, taking off from the ground and starting back toward the house.
It began to rapidly lose altitude as its wounds gushed blood until it finally fell just beyond the front gates of the house. You carried it the rest of the way, heart pounding in your chest as you took it back to the room you’d been held in. You sat in the room for what felt like hours, casting a healing jutsu on its wounds until you could no longer physically sustain it.
You collapsed by the creature’s side, tears prickling in the corners of your eyes as you finally allowed yourself to take a good look at it. In the fading light of the day you could see that scars had formed across its muted brown skin, and that it’s clothes had been torn in the fight. You sucked in a breath before directing your gaze to its face, heavy tears slipping down your cheeks as you took in the sight. Buried under the thick black markings across its face and the strange color to its lips you saw him.
You saw Sasuke.
The longer he slept the more his features began to return to their normal state, as if whatever jutsu had been cast upon him was reversing itself in midst of the peace of sleep. The man who laid before you looked as you had always imagined him, just as beautiful as you’d remembered him. The sight made you ache, knowing what would return once he awoke. You had no idea what this curse was or why it had been placed on him, but you were determined to do whatever it took to reverse it.
You sat with Sasuke until he woke up, hating to see the way his features shifted back into the monster’s as he sat up and looked around the room.
“You. You’re still here.” He touched the scars along his chest, looking back up at you. “Why did you save me?”
“I...” Your breath caught in your throat. Why was it suddenly so hard to talk to him? “I couldn’t just leave you to die.”
“So you carried me all the way back here? And for what? So you can feel a sense of accomplishment? Or was it to ensure that I was wounded and wouldn’t attack you again?”
Tears welled in your eyes. You reflexively leaned back, pulling your gaze away from the venomous look in Sasuke’s eyes. “I-I healed you best I could—”
He scoffed at you in response. “So what is it then? Have you been sent to torture me with the hope that something might change?”
Your lip began to quiver. “I just want to help you, Sasuke, please.”
For a moment, he paused. You shifted away from him, worried for what would happen next. “What did you just call me?”
“S-Sasuke.”
“How do you know my name?” He barked, looking as if he were ready to attack at a moment’s notice.
“Y-you don’t remember me?”
You could barely swallow back the sob that tore its way out of you, your chest aching as a hand clasped over your mouth. How could he not remember you? Had you just been fooling yourself, childishly tricking your mind into believing that you meant something to him? Had you honestly thought that you could save him? You, the weakest one among all of Team 7. You who had tried so hard to shine as brightly as Naruto or Sasuke, but who could never even be a star in Konoha’s sky. You who had so naively believed that life was like some kind of fairytale, that all it would take was true love’s kiss to reverse years of heartache and torment.
You who thought you were something more than what you are.
“Answer me.”
You tried to stand up, tried to run away and become the coward you always knew yourself to be, but felt Sasuke’s hand wrap around your wrist and grip it tight. He pulled you back down to a sitting position, holding you so tightly that you couldn’t move.
“I...” Hot, heavy tears now streamed down your cheeks, and your voice came out as a raspy whisper. “Sasuke you have to remember me. Please.”
His claws dug into your skin. “Who the hell are you?”
“(Name),” You stammered, heart hammering in your chest.
Sasuke’s eyes narrowed. He studied you, your chakra, your clothes and everything that sat trembling before him. His scrutinizing gaze bore into you, laying you bare, breaking you down to your simplest of pieces.
You were nothing more than a foolish girl who had wandered here believing that there was no force in the universe greater than love.
How wrong you had been.
Because it was hate that made beads of blood bloom against your skin. It was hate that manifested in two red eyes tearing you apart with more sting than the sharpest kunai. It was hate that had morphed the beautiful into the grotesque. It was hate that had wiped the slate clean, that had erased a life you’d thought you built. It was hate, all consuming and never ending.
“Please let me go. I’ll leave and I won’t come back. I won’t tell anyone that you’re here, just please...”
“No.”
“No?”
“You’re different. But your chakra is the same.”
No waves of relief washed over you. Only a sick feeling deep in your stomach, heavy and dark and thick as storm clouds. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him, too afraid that you might see a shadow of his past self looking back at you. Any hope you’d once had that he would look at you with the same softened look he had before evaporated the moment he’d awoken. All you hoped for now was that you would make it out of here alive.
He loosened his grip on your hand. “How did you know I was here?”
How much did you want to tell him? “There....there were reports of-of something on the outskirts of the village....”
“So they sent you here to investigate?”
You nodded. “I didn’t want to hurt you, I promise. I-I didn’t even know it was you until...”
You stopped yourself. Until I looked into your eyes. The curse of the Uchiha clan, always so beautiful to you. How many times had the power of those eyes saved you? How many more times did you think they would? Were you ready to let them destroy you too?
“Why have you come here?” His voice had softened considerably, though it still held an edge of skepticism. His hand still held you in place, though no longer tight enough to make you bleed. And you, you were still terrified of him. You didn’t believe in any of this, not in the way you should have. Not in the way you had when you’d followed him here.
To save you, Sasuke. To bring you home.
Sasuke let go. “Why did it take so long?”
You finally looked up at Sasuke. You saw beneath all that he had become. You saw that he was still the boy you snuck out to see, dancing across the rooftops of Konoha to the sweet melodies carried on the nighttime air. He was still the person you dreamt of every night, conjuring all manners of fantastical scenarios for your reunion. He was a monster now, yes, but this wasn’t the fate he would be resigned to.
“I didn’t think I would ever find you again.” Your voice had returned, however small, your cheeks still shimmering with tracks of tears. “But I hoped I would. I never stopped looking for a sign that you were still alive.”
“But why? I would think by now you would’ve given up.”
“I-I couldn’t. I guess....” you sighed, “I guess I just couldn’t accept the fact that you were gone. The truth is, well...”
I love you, Sasuke. That’s why I never stopped looking for you. I’ve loved you since we were kids. Not a single day has gone by where I haven’t dreamed of what it would be like to see you again. How stupid is that? I had always hoped this would be something magical but at this point I just wish you’d tell me to get lost. Please stop being so nice to me, it’ll only make what happens next hurt worse.
“Well?”
You couldn’t bring yourself to say it. Your hands fidgeted restlessly in your lap, eyes darting to the ground the second he looked at you. After all that had transpired you couldn’t even open your mouth, the words dying in your throat every time you tried to force yourself to get them out.
A heavy silence settled between you and Sasuke. Did he know? Did he feel the same? Was he just waiting for you to say it, readying himself to reject you? Would the blow come soft, or would it hit harder than any jutsu that had been flung your way? You weren’t ready for the answers—but then again, you doubted that you ever would be.
So in a moment of what would prove to either be pure stupidity or shocking boldness, you planted a hand on the floor, leaned forward, and pressed your lips into Sasuke’s.
It felt as if time had frozen around you. Sasuke was motionless between your lips, so still that you cracked your eyes open to see if he was even there. Each second felt like an hour, ticking by at an excruciating pace. Just as you began to pull away in shame you felt his lips slowly press back against yours, a hand sliding up to gently cup your cheek.
You leaned into him, his touch like pure electricity against your skin. It was utter bliss; everything you had ever dreamed of and more. When you finally opened your eyes and pulled away there was a moment where you felt as if you were in the twilight of sleep, worried that this was all some kind of cruel dream meant to distract you from the fact that you were still trapped somewhere in the house. But when you looked at Sasuke you knew this was as real as anything, a truth even greater than fiction.
“Sasuke, you’re...”
“An act of true love.”
"What?”
“The person who cast this jutsu on me, the one who trapped me in this form, they said that the only thing that could reverse it was an act of true love. They said I would be stuck like this forever because no one would ever be able to defeat the hate in my heart. But you, (Name), you...”
“I always did, Sasuke. Every single moment, I never once stopped.”
Sasuke collapsed into your arms, no longer forced to bear the weight of what his past had forced him to become. You didn’t expect things to go back to the way they were, you knew that was foolish, but you did hope that the future the two of you would forge together would be a brighter one than the one you had long ago forced yourself to make peace with.
In a few days’ time you would return to Konoha with Sasuke in tow. You knew there would be celebration, but you’d make sure he had time to recover first. You would make a bed for him on your couch or in your room or wherever he wanted to be, and you would go to sleep every night knowing that he was safe by your side once again. You couldn’t know exactly what would come in the weeks and months and years that followed, but you hoped that you would get the chance to spend them by Sasuke’s side.
For now, though, it was enough knowing that he knew. It was enough to have said it without saying it, despite—or more likely because of—all that had happened. You held Sasuke close for as long as he needed, letting go once he sat up to look at you.
“I always hoped it would be you that found me.” Sasuke’s eyes couldn’t quite meet yours. “I thought...I thought that you were the only one who could possibly break the jutsu.”
You blinked. In all this time, had he wished for you the way you had him? Did he dream of this future too? Did it comfort him, or scare him? Had he believed you wouldn’t come, and was that why he lashed out the way he did? Was he scared of what would happen when you saw him not for who he was, but for what he’d become? Was he scared that you wouldn’t love him?
“I’m glad I found you, Sasuke.”
“I’m glad you did too.”
You pressed another kiss into his lips, savoring the taste as if it would somehow disappear again.
“Let’s go home, (Name).”

Betrayal's Bond | An Uchiha Brother's Series | Teaser
Summary: You've been tasked with finding the team of jonin that went missing on their mission to the village hidden in the stars but what happens when you take one Uchiha brother to look for the other? Pairing: Tsundere Sasuke x female!oc x Itachi (love triangle) Word Count: 1.1k~ Warning: No real warnings but this is a Naruto au so it's not gonna to match up with the storyline at all List of Terminology a/n: Ahh idk how this'll do since I mostly post Jungkook/Kpop fics but I hope you guys'll look forward to this fic! Naruto is my all time favorite anime and I highly suggest you watch it but it's not necessary to enjoy this fic. You might need to look up the meaning of some of the words but it's nothing too crazy okay okay I'm done
Starting the morning off with a rude awakening is never good and today was unfortunately one of those days...
I jolt awake at the sound of someone banging on my front door and almost fall out of bed. "What the fuck is someone doing here so early?" I grumble to myself seeing that it's barely seven o'clock. I stretch for a second and rub my eyes before getting out of bed and putting my slippers on so I can open the door for whoever this horrible nuisance might be.
"Why the hell are you banging on my do- Oh Sasuke, what are you doing here?" I question, bringing my first scolding tone down to my normal one. "The Hokage wants to see us. She said it was urgent" he says and walks away giving me no further details.
"Wait Sasuke! I- and he's gone" I call out for him but he disappears before I'm able to get another word in. 'Thanks for the info Sasuke' I grumble to myself before heading back inside to get ready.
I take a quick shower, get dressed and head out as fast as I can but it doesn't seem like it was fast enough for Sasuke's liking as I see him leaning up against the wall next to Lady Tsunade's office with an irritated look on his face. "Nice to see you too Sasuke" I mumble and neither of us bother trying to engage in any other conversation before knocking on Lady Tsunade's door.
"Enter" I hear faintly from the other side of the door and walk in with Sasuke right behind me. "You wanted to see us?" I question as we both make our way over to her. "Yes, thank you both for coming in this early" she says, setting the papers she had been looking through down on her desk. "Is everything alright?" I ask as I take into account the dark circles under her eyes worried that something horrible might've happened.
"There was a team of Shinobi that went out on a mission to the village hidden in the stars a few weeks ago and they haven't returned. It should've been an easy mission but we've lost all contact with them about a week ago" she lists off, sorting through the papers until she finds the right one.
"The village hidden in the stars? What were they doing there?" I question, hoping to get as much intel as I can. "They were meant to retrieve a certain item there that the village had planned to give us for research but I can't reveal exactly what that item is" She says, giving only the necessary information.
"Why not?" Sasuke asks in a monotone, cocking his brow at the Hokage and she simply rolls her eyes in response, already used to his insolence. "It's not something the public should be aware of and honestly I've given you more information than I should have" she say, glaring right back at him.
"You don't trust us?" Sasuke prods, obviously not happy about being left in the dark about this but Tsunade just shakes her head, tired of the pushback but also trying to hold in her anger as she's known to have a short fuse.
"Once you find them just give them this document, they'll fill you in on the rest once you get there. We never really know who's listening and like I said we do-" "Don't want anyone knowing we got it" Sasuke says cutting her off.
"Sasuke!" I scold him, afraid of the backlash we might receive. "I'm sorry Lady Tsunade, he's really not a morning person" I explain, hoping to defuse the situation. "Sasuke Uchiha, y/f/n, you have been tasked with the mission of locating the missing shinobi and helping them complete their mission" she states before either of us can make any further comments.
"But Lady Tsunade, usually we go out on missions in teams of three. Won't we need a third?" I question, concerned that this might've been an oversight.
"It's a covert mission so it would make things too obvious if there were too many of you. Plus, you're only meant to find them so you two should be sufficient enough. The shinobi you're looking for is a team of jonin so as you can see we've already put enough manpower into this whole operation as is" she explains, leaning back in her chair and rubbing her temples.
"If I may ask, who are the jonin we're looking for?" I question, seeing as that's the most crucial information we need to complete this mission. "Kakashi Hatake, Shikamaru Nara and Itachi Uchiha" she lists off.
Sasuke stiffens at the sound of the last name and I know from now on that this mission is gonna hit close to home.
"Pack up your gear and head out as soon as possible" she finishes. "Understood" Sasuke answers for the both of us and makes his way out first, leaving me behind without a care in the world.
"Lady Tsunade may I ask you something?" I say quietly, keeping my voice down so the possibility of anyone hearing is a little bit smaller. "Go ahead" she sighs, thumbing through the other documents she has strewn about her desk.
"Why did you put Sasuke on this mission? I mean I don't want it to be seen as if I'm questioning your judgement but isn't the mission a little too personal for him? You know, since Itachi is missing?" I question while walking a bit closer to her desk.
"That is exactly why I've put him on this mission. The mission is important to the village but it's even more important to Sasuke now that he knows. Plus it might do him some good to be teaming up with Itachi. They've never really been on a mission together now have they?" she explains and I nod my head as she finishes.
"Yeah I guess you're right. May I ask why you've chosen me to go along though?" I continue, playing with the bracelet I have around my wrist, a nervous habit I've developed over the years.
"You're a good tracker and you've been completing your missions with close to perfect results. Plus you're a quiet one that doesn't tend to get on people's nerves so I figured you'd get along well with Sasuke" she answers, listing off my strengths which has me a little shy, embarrassed that I pretty much fished for compliments on accident.
"Just take a deep breath and don't be nervous. Sasuke's rough around the edges but I'm sure you guys will work together just fine" she says while giving me a warm smile, hoping to give me some encouragement. "Yes my Lady, thank you" I say, giving her a shallow bow, walking out of her office and rushing home.
'I hope she's right about this' I think to myself as I run through the village, dreading what is to come as flashbacks of the argument I had witnessed between the brothers comes to mind again.

Hey Chatte, hope all is well. I wanted to share a head cannon I thought of revolving around NarSaku kids. And I wanted to know what you think about who would be appropriate for their godparents?
For me Shina are Kakashi, and Dan younger sister( I forget her name)
Hanami Sasuke and Karin (I ship them too)
Arashi Iruka and Ino.
All of these characters are important to the parents on a lot levels but these pairing just make sense. For me KaKashi should be Shina godfather for a number reasons I think would fit in the OG canon. Kakashi would no doubt see the parallels between Minanto and Kushina and Naruto and Sakura, given the fact of his guilt complex for not doing enough and NarSaku being aware of that. It wouldn’t be like an olive branch or redemption the gesture of be telling him that you don’t have to carry this guilt forever and we trust you to be there for our son.
I also have a head canon that Shina & Kakashi relationship is similar between Jiay and Naruto and a his father and Jiay.
Hanami I feel that Sasuke and Karin favor girls and they would be a better as Hanami godparents. Arashi being the youngest I wanted to include characters that people I feel forgot how important their are to their parents not only personally but also developing their story. Ino and Iruka played a similar role even though they themselves aren’t connected directly.
Omg this is so perfect?!?!?!
I never really thought about it until now because I’m not exactly sure if in Japan they have this custom. Here in my country for example, we do too and I THOROUGHLY agree with the combination you just made.
So what I’ll do is research if it’s a custom in Japan as well and if so, do I have your blessing to use this combination in Kaika, since it wasn’t initially my idea but I JUST LOVE IT?
I think it’s perfect to have Kakashi be Shina’s godfather, especially since Shina does resemble Minato as well? And I believe you meant Shizune as well, which I totally see given she is Sakura’s senpai and would most likely want to help & be there for Sakura, along with Tsunade.
It would be like the family that could have been in Tsunade & Dan’s case since they are also direct parallels of NaruSaku, too. Shizune knows how much Taunade loved her family & having Sakura succeed where her master sadly couldn’t, I feel like both of them (as in both Shizune as a godmother & Tsunade as a granny for real now haha), would absolutely want to help Naruto & Sakura with their firstborn.
Likewise, later on after Hanami comes along, given how Hanami is literally a prankster like her father & Karin is eccentric herself, I feel she’d be autie Karin’s favorite niece!!
And Sasuke would grow to love her tremendously given that she is literally a young Naruto replica & so that would remind him of their genin days. Sasuke would probably love the fact that Hanami IS A TROUBLEMAKER and would always be on her side just to mess around with Naruto and be like “see how it is to taste a dose of your own medicine?” 🤣.
And last, but not least, for Arashi, I think Ino and Iruka is also the best choice given Arashi’s personality.
Let’s not forget Arashi has his mother’s temper from the time Ino met Sakura so for her it’d be like a walk down memory lane & just the fondness of that time.
Likewise, Iruka’s calm demeanour is perfect for Arashi’s introverted personality.
So yeah, I’d say pretty top notch ideas!!
Chapeau to you, my dear!

Medical nin Sasuke is a top tier AU for sure
Anon, I hope you don't mind me adding some of my headcanons / thoughts because YES IT IS:
I'm begging to watch Sasuke reanimating someone with a controlled electric pulse.
We all know about the sharingan abilities to easily memorize and catch even the littlest of details, right? It'd be perfect for a medic nin who has to identify all types of wounds in the middle of chaotic battlefields. The efficiency would be around 90%.
Sasuke has amazing chakra control too and it deserves to be talked about more.
It is perfectly plausible that in some other universe where Sasuke wasn't as heavily manipulated as the canon verse, he'd seek to reform the system from within by pushing forward the medical agenda in a world full of mindless violence. I bet he wouldn't feel half as powerless if he could save lives with his medical ninjutsu.
Sasuke can become a medic nin out to rebel against the people trying to control him. He could go "I wish I was powerful enough to stop Itachi before he went too far AND knew how to heal my parents before they died".
He could have become interested in medical ninjutsu during his fight with Haku. Faking death? Going for the vital points with brutal efficiency? All awesome stuff.
Sasuke is so similar to Tsunade. Both left the village because they were disappointed and hurting. They lost their brothers, saw the people most important to them get killed, felt betrayed by someone they trusted— and how interesting I'd be to parallel Orochimaru and Itachi search for power, when both of them later help Konoha survive.
He's fight with Itachi would have gone a lot differently. Itachi is sick and wants to die and is manipulating Sasuke further, but what if Sasuke refused to allow it to happen and managed to save him? I love the trope where characters live to pay for their own mistakes instead of "dying to redeem themselves". The character development is worth it all!
He's very observant, more than Naruto or Sakura. He thinks critically, works under pressure, is not afraid of blood or doing what must be done...
He's a field medic through and through. If he wanted to bring back the honor of the Uchiha clan, becoming a medic sounds like a good idea. Do I need to remind everyone that one of the worst nightmares of Naruto was the asshole of Kabuto? And how he was such a pain in the neck because he was a medic nin?
KABUTO AS SASUKE'S MEDIC NIN SENSEI.
Way to turn around and spit into the Uchiha curse of hatred too. The Sharingan is a gift of love— of love and grief. It's a tool to be used so you won't lose anyone like that again, so you can protect your loved ones. It'd shut up Black Zetsu and his Uchiha manipulation.
POISON EXPERT SASUKE? I NEED IT.
Honestly I think it would have been great to create a plotline where Kakashi is too busy seeing himself in Sasuke, it hits him like a truck the moment he becomes aware that he is more than Rin in so many ways.
Sasuke turning to be more like Mikoto than like Itachi or Fugaku!!!!!!
I have so many ideas for this au. Giving Sasuke the power to heal doesn't change who he is at his core, but it influences who he becomes. I'm not saying he won't be bitter or angry— Tsunade and Chiyo were two of the best medic nins around and they were drowning in vices.
It depends on who his mentor could be and he won't be a worse fighter, but!!! Idk, there is a different type of strength in healing...

A Prank gone wrong? [Sasuke x Naruto]
The Hokage's Office
"The war had finally ended and the ending consequences, you two lose an arm each! Well, the chakra from nine-tails made it easier to heal Naruto, but Sasuke's arm is still not fully healed, but with how his injuries are, I'd say he'll be just fine. So, now that Sasuke is getting discharged, it is your responsibility to share your apartment with him, do you hear me Naruto?" said Lady Tsunade, in a serious voice.
"But baa-chan, can't he go back to his own house, to the Uchiha quarters?" Naruto had asked her, not actually hating the idea of Sasuke living with him for a few days.
"You dobe." This time it was Sasuke who cut him off, "First, the villagers don't trust me yet, and the way these elders have acted all these years only ever caring about their own selves, do you actually believe they'd be okay with the idea of a death-row convict like me going back to the Uchiha compound?"
"But why wouldn't they!!?" that really angered Naruto. Sasuke too, was a war hero after all, and without him by his side, he wouldn't have been able to wake those people up from the infinite dream. "Sasuke saved them, he saved all of them, all the villages and all the people!"
"Sadly, that's not how it works. Well, either way, I can ask the elders to drop all the charges against Sasuke but the living-arrangement needs to be taken care of by you. People trust you more than anyone and if you trust Sasuke blindly to let him stay with you, the people will start trusting him too, and then the elders won't have any other option but to acknowledge him and drop all his charges." Lady Tsunade explained.
Naruto finally understood the strategy to make people trust Sasuke again, "What an amazing idea! No wonder you are the hokage!!"
"It's pretty astonishing that a gambler like you managed to come up with a plan like that." Sasuke added, pretty impressed.
"Actually, it was Shikamaru's idea." Shizune interrupted, "that boy sure is a genius!"
"I know right! Shikamaru's awesome!" Naruto giggled, remembering how he always came up with the best of ideas when they were in a pickle.
Something shifted inside Sasuke. His stomach flipped and he felt a small lump in his throat. Somehow, he didn't like it when Naruto was praising someone else. Although he knew that Shikamaru might have had a thing for the blonde from the village of Sand, but still.
"Okay, since we're all clear about everything, Naruto, let's go back."
"Huh? Go where?"
"To your apartment, of course."
"Wait, we're staying in my apartment? Like I get it that we need to stay together, but my apartment is way too small for the two of us."
"We'll manage."
And with that Sasuke pulled on Naruto's collar as he dragged him out of the room.
'Ah, young love ~' both Lady Tsunade and Shizune smiled.
...
"Baa-chan is very nice, you know. Although she can be so serious sometimes, ya know!" Naruto said, as the two boys jumped over the roofs heading towards Naruto's apartment. But then he slowly took a glimpse of Sasuke's face from the corner of his eyes.
Sasuke's expression seemed neutral, just as usual but his hair had gotten longer, hadn't it? And Sasuke's height had also increased, and Naruto definitely couldn't deny that he had surely gotten a lot more handsome than what he was when they were still academy-graduates. But this time, Naruto was also popular among the girls, so, he wasn't actually losing.
But Sasuke might have caught Naruto staring, that he turned to look at Naruto's face and smirked, "What, don't tell me you've fallen for this face too? ~"
A major blush rose to his face as Naruto yelled, "As if teme! Just who do you think you are!? I would never...!!"
Sasuke was definitely enjoying it, he mimicked Naruto in his voice, "Come back Sasuke ~ I'll die with you Sasuke ~ You can't leave me Sasuke ~ These were the things you probably said a billion times till now, and what else was there? Oh yeah, be mine Sasuke, give yourself to me ~~ " he teased.
The little blush that had occupied Naruto's face intensified and now his entire face was red. He was blushing immensely and his pulse rate had probably increased. "H-Hey!! I never said the last part!! Just stop messing around!!"
"Oh, and not to mention, I was your first kiss, oh, and your second too. But honestly, the I'll die with you Sasuke part was really something else ~" Sasuke had no intention to stop his teasing. Plus, he was seeing a different side of Naruto now. Usually, Naruto was this loudmouth who went on talking confidently even about stuff he was wrong about, but this Naruto who was blushing like that, sure was cute. Wait........cute?
Naruto had had enough, his heart hurt because of his fastened heartbeats. He immediately jumped towards Sasuke, trying to grab him and cover his mouth to stop him from saying anything more, but Sasuke got hold of both his hands. "Not that easy."
"Let go of me bastard! I won't let you say any other weird stuff!" Naruto yelled, still flustered. But Sasuke had caught hold of both his arms so there was no way of shutting him off.
"Honestly Naruto, I get that you were obsessed with me, but I thought you saw me as a friend, who would've thought ~"
Okay, that's it. Sasuke definitely had the upper hand and he was saying all that just to rile him up. But Naruto wasn't going to lose either. If he can't use his hands, then there's just one way left to shut him up. Although... that would be... but who cares!? Naruto couldn't lose!
[Author here - Any of you guessed what 'other way' Naruto was thinking about to shut Sasuke up? ^^]
"I mean, I understand I'm quite a looker so, it was justifiable for those fangirls" Sasuke kept continuing, "but you are a totally different story ~ The war hero lusting over the guy who almost destroy - " Sasuke's words faded and his eyes widened as he felt a pair of soft lips crashing into his own.
Naruto had inched closer to him and had pushed his lips onto Sasuke. It wasn't anything like the previous two kisses they had shared. And it was Sasuke's turn to get flustered.
But the kiss did more than that. Sasuke's face had gotten redder that's for sure, but the longer the kiss went on, his knees felt weaker. His heartbeat rose and temperature increased. Just how the hell did he know how to kiss like that!!!? Sasuke could feel Naruto lips licking his own, gently nibbling on his lower lip, waiting for an entrance. Sasuke's mind short-circuited. He could feel the intensity of the kiss and that send shivers down his spine. Was that longing? Whatever it was, Sasuke was completely absorbed in it. Although, he knew all too well that Naruto had only kissed him to shut him off, but as the thought of Naruto doing this just for winning a situation send an excruciating pain through Sasuke's heart. Wait, did he want Naruto to kiss him in real? And as if unable to handle that, Sasuke kissed back.
He parted his lips, just enough for Naruto to slip in his tongue and explore the insides of Sasuke's mouth, as he released Naruto's hand and sending his arms around his neck, pulled him closer. Seeing that as a sign maybe, Naruto too, wrap Their bodies crashing, and their mouths moving in a perfect sync. The innocent-at-heart kiss had slowly turned passionate with 'want' written all over it. Naruto had definitely initiated the kiss to shut him off, but seeing Sasuke actually get into it, sent Naruto into a frenzy. His heart burned and heat travelled to places he hadn't had expected. He was kissing Sasuke and he wanted more.
Sasuke too was getting hard. Their tongues danced in perfect harmony as they grinded against each other, through their cloths until,
"mm ~" Naruto moaned, when Sasuke had accidently rubbed his knee against Naruto's @-@, that they momentarily separated from the kiss.
Their faces flustered and both huffing for air, they had the words, 'need' and 'desire' written all over their faces. What they had experienced now was something they'd never experienced before, never even imagined it. One joke. Just one joke and they were already a mess.
Now, Sasuke had never been one to be in awkward situations or instances where he wasn't in control. And with how the kiss with Naruto had felt, only he knew the extent to which things could go wrong in so many ways. And there was no way he was willing to risk that. Naruto had saved him from an eternity of loneliness and he wasn't going to lose all of that for some stupid prank Naruto pulled, that majorly went wrong.
Although, it didn't look like Naruto hated it. His face was coloured red and his lips parted slightly, it was clearly evident that he wanted more too.
Sasuke was the more mature one, he couldn't have let things go further south, he had to do something. He had to... But the face Naruto was making then was...
"So.. irresistible" Sasuke murmured, and immediately bit his cheeks. And within seconds, before Naruto could even comprehend it, Sasuke activated his rinnegan.
"S-Sorry Naruto... but this, never happened."
"Wha..." Naruto immediately shut his eyes, being affected by whatever Sasuke did and began to lose balance.
But Sasuke caught him and waited for him to stand back up.
Slowly, Naruto gained his composure back and looked up at Sasuke, "teme? What happened?" he asked confused, gaining his balance back. "Feels like I passed out? Are you okay though, huh, your face, it's red!? Are you okay?" he brought his face near Sasuke's once again, genuinely worried.
'Too close, idiot' Sasuke thought and put a palm against Naruto's face. "Nothing usuratonkachi! Let's go to your apartment already. I'm tired."
Naruto pouted, whining, "So mean!!"
But they both resumed their walk towards Naruto's apartment. And they would've made it inside the house as well, if only Shikamaru wasn't standing just outside Naruto's door.
"Well, took you guys a while. Looks like Tsunade-sama gave you the details already. You guys will be living here from now on, right?"
"Ne Shikamaru! How did you know, we would choose this place to stay? We could have refused the offer." Naruto asked, excited.
Shikamaru just looked at Sasuke and smirked, "How I wonder ~"
Sasuke flinched but looked in a completely different direction.
"But that aside, you're coming with me, Naruto! Back to that study, you need to finish 6 more scrolls today!"
"Whoaaaa...... no way!"
"You'll get plenty of time to be with Sasuke but only after you finish your work! Move your ass, Naruto!"
"Uhh fine!" Naruto yelled, obviously not happy to be separated from Sasuke. But he had to do what he had to do, right? "Ne Sasuke, you'll be okay without me here, right?"
"You're 100 years too early to be worrying about me, usuratonkachi." Sasuke said that, but his face had gotten gloomier that Naruto was going.
Naruto smiled at that and waved him a 'bye-bye' "See ya later, teme!"
...
Sasuke had holed up in his room (Naruto's bedroom, since there was only one bedroom in Naruto's apartment) and clenched his fists, "Making you forget that... was the only thing I could do. Honestly Naruto... you're an idiot... "
[If you liked it, then here's a link to 7 more oneshots]
