Hello, as many of you may know, I'm from Chile, and I want to share with you what's happening right now, and that has been happening every summer for as long as I can remember.

Every summer, as soon as December hits, we start to see impressively big forest fires, especially in the south of Chile, where there's the most vegetation to get burnt. As summer goes on, the fires start appearing all over the country.

These fires are widely believed to be started intentionally by real estate companies, to be able to build more houses, because these terrains aren't being sold to them because of the vegetation they possess, but after they're burnt, they are able to buy them, and build freely.

Today there are currently many fires happening in my region, in my city. This morning I just happened to visit the capital (Santiago) with my family, and on our way back home we saw three different fires.

My cousin wasn't able to return home from work, she'll have to look for somewhere to spend the night, on a different city. Some of my brother's friends had to evacuate their homes. Public transportation is not working right now. The streets are filled with infite traffic, of people having to evacuate their homes. Some of my friends' relatives lost their homes, and don't know if their pets are okay. There's so many people that got lost during the evacuations, especially children. And I don't even know when I will be able to post this, because I do not currently have access to internet, nor electricity, and up until recently, water was also unavailable.

I also need you to know that many of these fires happen in hills, where, usually, the most vulnerable people are situated. Many of the houses that are in danger started as tomas, and some of them still are. A 'toma' is the conquest or occupation by force of a square or city, and most of the times, these happen so that people who do not have a house, can build a house. These houses are built by these people, and are extremely vulnerable. This is who is in danger of losing all their efforts, their belongings, and the roof over their heads.

All of this to say, if you see someone from Chile asking for help, please do, in anyway you can. Due to the current events, they probably need it.

I'd like to give my opinion, just this once.

I am not American, but I am autistic and so is my brother. I, for as long as I can remember, have wanted to visit the United States. I've admired and looked up to the Americans. I learned their history, their language, watched their movies and eventually interacted with them on here. I am terrified for The United States of America's future.

During President Trump's ceremony Yesterday, Elon Musk did a gesture which I can verify is NOT the Roman salute, for my country's army does it and it is nothing like that. As someone born here in the South of Chile, you can admire whatever culture you can, yes even German culture, but do it respectfully. We have German people here, we have the last Prussian army, yet we condemn Nazis. We don't take away the educational deparment, we teach our kids the horror of the Holocaust, we teach them how a group as despicable as the Nazis came to power, so it never happens again.

We have immigrant Jews, Palestinians, Germans, and from many other places. We don't correct them on their history, as they know better than us their own stories. We witness, don't intervene, for we don't want more trouble from the ones we already have. But we look in horror for what's to come.

I am autistic, so is my brother. We've both been interested in ww2 at some point. Never have we been so naive to do a gesture like that one Elon did, we could never do something like that and not think it is horrible. And I know Elon knows because he finances a political party in Germany. Do not blame this on his Aspergers, as someone with that former diagnosis (which no longer exists by the way), do not think of us so naively. We are not children.

Lastly, for those in support of these men, they do not care about you. They see you as a pawn, a number, for their own gain. If America fully falls to fascism, then in the future you will live to regret it. Many nazis escaped here. Many took a new name, formed a new family and spent the rest of their lives miserable and running. They had to hide from their kids what they had done and the question of "how could you?" forever hunted them. Do not play into their games.

Many think Germany fell to Nazism because they were inherently evil, but this is not the case. They were foolish to trust a leader who promised salvation, groomed into the hatred and told there was an enemy to hunt down or they would do it first. But truth always comes out and eventually it will come back to bite you.

'I Won't Stop Until Israel Admits Its Ties With the Pinochet Regime'

Lily Traubman, who immigrated to Israel in the 1970s, hopes the documents she is trying to get from the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry may even contain information on her father's killers.

A year ago there were headlines when four women filed a suit for sexual abuse they suffered in prison during the Pinochet period. They demanded that the abuse be recognized as a political crime and that their torturers be brought to trial. Were such attacks something that was directed from above?

Of course. Have you heard of “La Venda Sexy”? It was a detention center where people were tortured. The name actually means “Sexy Blindfold,” because the detainees’ eyes were covered the whole time and they were subjected to sexual abuse.

All the detainees were blindfolded the whole time?

Yes. They were arrested, blindfolded and put into a room, together, with their eyes covered. Then they were tortured. Most of the female detainees were raped and underwent sexual abuse. A girlfriend of mine was held there but was not raped. She told me she’d felt fortunate, but then came New Year’s and she was raped. They’d kept her for the holiday.

Venda Sexy was truly awful. They had dogs that were trained to rape women, and they would force spouses and family members to watch the rape. More and more testimonies about these abuses come out all the time.

And throughout this whole period, Israel, under prime ministers Yitzhak Rabin, Menachem Begin and Shimon Peres, maintained excellent relations with Chile. The two countries supported each other in the United Nations and signed bilateral agreements. Army Chief of Staff Mordechai Gur visited Chile in 1978, as did Deputy Prime Minister David Levy in 1982. Both met with Pinochet.

Pinochet was even invited to the synagogue in Santiago on Yom Kippur. Other presidents were not invited.

The documents declassified by the Americans also contain references to arms deals with Israel. Secretary of State George Shultz noted in a 1984 document that Britain, France, Israel and Germany were Chile’s arms suppliers.

All the weapons of the Chilean police and army were Israeli. In Chile I went around with a photograph of my brother in uniform. At checkpoints and in searches I would take out the picture and tell them that this was my brother, who was an officer in the IDF – even though he was a regular soldier – and that did the trick. The Chilean army greatly admired the Israeli army. When Pinochet wanted to visit Israel, he threatened that if he were not received here he would cancel a large arms deal. No dictator in the world, however bad he may be, can exist without international support. The dictatorship in Chile lasted as long as it did because there were countries that supported it, and Israel was one of them.

Israel describes itself as “the state of the Jewish people,” but there are about 20 missing Jews in Chile who were murdered during that period, while Israeli governments and the military maintained close ties with Chile, accorded it legitimization in international forums and provided aid and training to its military and intelligence units.

Grogu looked down at the shirt he was wearing over his beskar mail and giggled. He wasn’t Irish and he didn’t really want anyone to kiss him. Why did his dad agree that this was the perfect shirt to wear today? 

“Everyone wears green on St. Paddy’s Day!”, one of the production assistants laughed, as she kissed his cheek. 

Grogu wanted to tell her that he was ‘green’. He didn’t need to wear green. Uff.

“Grogu, this makes Jon and the rest of the team happy. Just roll with it.”

Et tu, Pedro? 

Of course Pedro had been happy to dress up as a walking version of the Chilean flag on Chile’s naming day. Then it occurred to Grogu that since the Chilean flag was red, white, and blue, Pedro frequently dressed in those colors, as did many people on the set, and honestly, all over the globe. Red, white, and blue were very popular colors for flags on this planet. 

His mom said it was something about the universality of meaning for those colors, sacrifice, unity and honor being very popular themes for large and small scale governments. He didn’t ask which theme was for which color because he didn’t really want to find out how much more complicated people made things on this planet. The fact that Saint Patrick’s Day was celebrated pretty much only in one part of it, but called people from a completely different part of the globe made it strange enough already.

Of course he had no real issue in celebrating anything the humans wanted to celebrate while he was visiting their home world. Although, he had to say he had a real preference for the celebrations that were food intensive. Halloween was pretty great because of all the candy and the costumes. He also enjoyed Festivus. It was celebrated at or near the end of each year and many cultures had all sorts of ways of celebrating their part of it. He liked them all and tried to be respectful when he realized that some people really didn’t get how a person could do one but not the other(s). 

Grogu would have loved it if the people of Earth had celebrated something like Life Day, the way the Wookiees did. Life Day really was a kind of red, white, and blue holiday for many of the people in his galaxy and he thought the people he’d met during the filming process would really enjoy it. He liked it because you got to slow down and spend the day with family and friends and appreciate how life had brought you together and helped you feel together, even when you were literally worlds apart. 

As far as Grogu could tell, Earth didn’t really celebrate any particular day everywhere. He supposed Saint Patrick’s Day was interesting because all over the planet knew about it. They knew about the green and the kissing and the Irish getting credit for it. But they didn’t all celebrate it and many of the celebrations were about just wanting to have a party and not to really commemorate anything in particular. 

He’d asked a friend of one of the writers what they knew about Saint Patrick’s Day and they laughed. 

“I know my mom liked to celebrate it because our Irish ancestors came to this country over one hundred and fifty years ago and we still have family in Ireland to this day. But she didn’t really celebrate Saint Patrick. He wasn’t even supposed to have been from Ireland. He may have been from Roman Britain or even Rome itself. He’d been brought to Ireland as a child, but managed to escape, and the returned when he wanted to educate the people he’d met. Now, we toast to everyone’s good health, wish upon all the luck of the Irish, and allow for the kissing, as a means of demonstrating good will to all. I have to say, I don’t bother wearing green on Saint Paddy’s Day because I have green eyes. I always have the badge of the Irish with me… although, as I understand things now, the folks from Scotland have the highest percentage of green eyes of any group. So, ta for that.”

Grogu thanked her for the information and asked if she knew where he could find a different shirt to wear. 

“Of course! I probably have something handy right over here. Just don’t tell Jon where you got it. Or Pedro. They love this sort of thing and that’s why the rest of us do it. Celebrating life is good to do whenever you find yourself with your friends and family.”

She walked over to her desk and pulled open a deep drawer. She pushed all the file folders in it forward and pulled out a small box. She took the top off the box and pulled out a shirt and then brought it over to him. 

“Do you like this one? I think it will fit.”

Grogu grinned and laughed. Yes. He liked that shirt just fine. And it was better than wearing the one that had been getting his cheek pinched as often as it had been kissed. That didn’t seem like the luck of the Irish to him. 

“Then it is yours to wear in good health and for long life. I was saving it for an occasion just like this. I’m glad you get to enjoy it.”

Grogu hopped up on her desk and took the shirt and waved her closer and then jumped up to give her a quick kiss. It was proper to honor the custom of the day, even if it wasn’t really his day.

Lulu—I have made it a goal of mine next year to Get into Movies more because I really have gotten into a rut of just rewatching movies / tv shows and not trying much of anything new. I have been following your watching journey this year with great delight, and not a little bit of inspiration I might add, and I wonder if you might give me some film recommendations? 🙏 like whatever you want - I am pretty much open to trying out anything (with the exception of horror movies that go hard on the gore/body horror). Ooh, yes, I'd love to give some recommendations! Here are some films I've enjoyed in the past year and a half or so.

Rye Lane dir. Raine Allen Miller: Super charming rom com about a chance encounter between two people in London who have a chance encounter after both recently going through break-ups. Vibrant, funny, good sense of place, excellent chemistry between the leads.

Chevalier dir. Stephen Williams: Biopic about Joseph Bologne, the son of an enslaved Caribbean woman and a white French plantation owner who becomes a celebrated composer and duelist in the court of Marie Antoinette. I love a big lavish period drama (and honestly my main complaint about this is that the protagonist's life is so interesting you could probably make a whole second movie following this one) and the lead performance from Kelvin Harrison Jr. is very good!

Showing Up dir. Kelly Reichardt: Quiet film about a sculptor in the weeks leading up to a showcase of her art at a local gallery and how her job, friends, and family keep getting in the way of her preparations. When I watching this, I kept waiting for there to be some disaster to push her everyday stress to the breaking point, but it's not really that kind of movie–it's just about how hard it is to carve out space to make art when everything in your life seems to be competing for your attention.

Polite Society dir. Nida Manzoor: Infectiously fun and stylish action-comedy about an aspiring martial artist who becomes convinced that her sister's new boyfriend is bad news and she must prevent their wedding. So energetic and hilarious (though I will give a content warning that there is a scene of an unwanted invasive medical procedure). Nida Manzoor's TV show We Are Lady Parts is a fantastic comedy about a Muslim punk band, also!

Mutt dir. Vuk Lungulov-Klotz: Indie drama about a trans guy named Feña having a terrible day in NYC as he hosts his visiting father from Chile, runs into his half-sister, and reconnects with his straight ex-boyfriend who hasn't seen him since he transitioned. I enjoyed how this was set over such a compact amount of time and also that the protagonist is allowed to be kind of angry and an asshole at times.

Aftersun dir. Charlotte Wells: Ohhhh this film absolutely devastated me. It has a framing device of the protagonist reflecting on a vacation she and her father took to Turkey when she was a preteen and he was in his late 20s as she tries to reconcile the memories of that trip with what she wasn't aware of a child. Really naturalistic performance from the child actress, frankly devastating performance from Paul Mescal, ending that has haunted me in a good way for months! This one is, like, really sad to the point that I described the plot to my mother the other day and she was like "why would you inflict that in yourself," but in a really nuanced and subtle way that creeps up on you, plus interesting themes on memory.

Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret dir. Kelly Fremon Craig: Actually perfect film about a eleven-year-old girl navigating her family's move from NYC to New Jersey, the differents faith of her family, and the start of adolescence. I never actually read Judy Blume's book, but this film is just so sweet and heartfelt.

Blue Jean dir. Georgia Oakley: Tense historical film about a lesbian teacher in 80s England balancing her double life in a climate where "promoting homosexuality" in schools was forbidden under Section 48. Very stressful but also riveting, great atmosphere capturing the aesthetic and politics of the time.

Scrapper dir. Charlotte Regan: Quirky, colorful, and heartfelt film about a resourceful twelve-year-old girl who lives alone in a working class neighborhood of London after her mother's death until her absent father turns up and wants to forge a relationship with her. Good movie to watch after being devastated by Aftersun but also well-acted and fun and has a great performance from the lead kid actress.

The Taste of Things dir. Trần Anh Hùng: Period drama set in 1880s rural France about a chef in love with his personal cook and determined to woo her with his cooking. This movie made me SO HUNGRY because it's just long scenes of people cooking and eating delicious meals and just truly luxuriates in the beauty of that. (Though it was also sadder than I expected, so there's that, ah well.) Never have I wanted to eat boiled vegetables and beef so badly as when watching this movie!!

La Chimera dir. Alice Rohrwacher: My favorite movie of the yearrrrrrrr. Magic-tinged period drama heist about a British archaeologist in 70s Italy with the magical ability to sense hidden Etruscan tombs–which he uses to plunder the contents and sell them on the black market with his band of fellows thieves. It's about being haunted by the past, both ancient and in a grieving way! It's about the desecration of art for money! It's about a catchy folk song with liberal use of the triangle!

I Saw the TV Glow dir. Jane Schoenbrun: Unsettling/sad horror film about two misfits growing up in the 90s suburbs who become obsessed with the same obscure TV show–until the lines between fiction and reality blur. So haunting and heart-wrenching and also the soundtrack is phenomenal.

How to Blow Up a Pipeline dir. Daniel Goldhaber: Eco-terrorist heist film about a group of disparate people banding together to do exactly what it says on the tin. Good use of nonlinear narrative and ensemble cast, also a good conversation starter if you tell people the title of the film you just watched, haha.

The Unknown Country dir. Morissa Maltz: A grieving woman embarks on a road trip to reckon with her loss and place in the world. Indigenous community and family and a beautiful sense of poignancy. Lily Gladstone plays the lead and they are just absolutely luminous.

Bird dir. Andrea Arnold: Coming-of-age film about a 12-year-old girl living in a squat in England with her brother and irresponsible dad who befriends an eccentric man looking for his family in the area. It's a really interesting mix of gritty and fantastical and I thought the ending was uplifting without feeling unrealistic or saccharine and I admired that.

Hope you have fun on your quest to watch more movies, I've had fun on mine! If you're based in the US, I'd especially recommend seeing if your local library has Kanopy or Hoopla because I've watched some good movies that way.

ONEW: 15 minutes is the most I've done. And it's harder than I thought. Oh, but someone told me that there's an easy way to do it. You can listen to an album twice. Then it'll be over for 30 minutes. I can't do that. LOL.

Q3. Have you ever hit Ceo Jang with your ttakbam?

ONEW: Did I ever hit him..? /mumbling/ I think so since we're friends, but I don't really remember

Q4. There were a lot of outfits this time, but which one was your favorite? Like 'Oh, I want to keep this one and always wear it'

ONEW: Which outfit YOU liked the most?

ONEW: I wore a lot of outfits this time, and I dressed with clothes I liked, but to be honest, the silver outfit...

ONEW: I haven't heard any song yet, and I don't really know anything. I don't think anything is ready

ONEW: /searching for them/ I think I need to be quick. It would be nice to make opportunities quickly because the purpose of concerts is to go. It would be nice if I could go there quickly and perform, right? If you want me there

ONEW: I saw a ballet performance but if you just go out, you'll find art from the exhibition within 5 minutes, and all the world's famous paintings are exhibited there, so everyone can watch this and that.
